    Default 2006 World Cup!

    2006 WORLD CUP

The time is almost here --and I wanted to see how many other obsessed fans are out there! It would be great to have a thread listing all of the action and our feelings as it occurs.

Here are a few links to start this thread:

DUDE! I totally have to root for the "home team" (US of course)! I love LD!
I am stoked that it is a world cup year!

Heh - in MY house, the "home team" is ITALIA! (My kids' entire paternal family is there) My son follows the international soccer scene all year long - his team is Lazio. (None of whom appear to be in the starting lineup according the that article you posted, msnicolea. Hm.)

I'm not a sports fan at all (to an embarrassing degree sometimes) but after watching Italy play Brazil in '94 (losing by one point in penalty kicks! Aack!) I was completely hooked on international soccer. There's no professional sport popular in the U.S. that compares.

Yay! Soccer fans! I can't wait for the World Cup. Unfortunately, my current employer is not as lenient as my last employer, where three-quarters of the employees would sit in the back room and watch the games...including the boss!

So excited that there are a number of us on CC who are looking forward to the World Cup!

I just came across this article in the Boston Herald about Thierry Henry: http://sports.bostonherald.com/socce...ticleid=139034

I will be watching. We talked about getting tickets last year but decided it would be a little too much money to go.

I thought we could list all the groups in the play offs:
    Group A
    Germany
    Costa Rica
    Poland
    Ecuador

    Group B
    England
    Paraguay
    Trinidad & Tobago
    Sweden

    Group C
    Argentina
    Ivory Coast
    Serbia & Montenegro
    Netherlands

    Group D
    Mexico
    Iran
    Angola
    Portugal

    Group E
    Italy
    Ghana
    USA
    Czech Republic

    Group F
    Brazil
    Croatia
    Australia
    Japan

    Group G
    France
    Switzerland
    Korea
    Togo

    Group H
    Spain
    Ukraine
    Tunisia
    Saudi Arabia

To me it seems like every single World Cup, European Championship we get stuck with England in our group. Why? A little variation would be nice thank you very much. But on the other hand we know their game and the statistics are in our favour so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. But it's sad because England is my team (not counting Sweden of course).

I guess Brazil is the favourite for the winning spot. There have been seven different winners in World Cup history. Five of those are competing this year. I'd say that one of those five wil win.

So who are your favourite players girls?
