Betas: These are not standard tests. My OB said she didn't feel they were necessary because I'd have +HPTs plus a +urine test at the office, but I said I'd feel better given my history, so she went ahead and ordered them.

EDD: She may be waiting for the u/s to date it.

Detecting fetal h/b @ 6 weeks: yes, this is possible with certain technology.

The only thing I'm surprised about is that she didn't order routine bloodwork (CBC, etc).

I was going to say all these things except, I was thinking they probably just held off on the bloodwork for the "bigger" appointment next time around, since they'll need to keep you there for longer next time anyways.

At any rate...VERY exciting!! And yes, you'll have to check online for your EDD if nothing but to give us an idea!!

My doctor didn't order my pregnancy bloodwork until I saw her at my first official OB appt just last week. I had an annual 2 weeks before and at that appt she gave me an u/s script, but said we may not see the heartbeat. I saw it beating so fast, I was 6 weeks at the time. My OB appt was at 7 weeks and she said it was too early to hear the heartbeat, so hopefully when I see her Tuesday she will try to hear it.

My doctor didn't order a beta series with my first pregnancy (although when I got the blood draw taken my numbers were 66,000, I was 14 weeks along at the time, long story) I had to have my blood drawn this time 4 times though, since I am sort of high risk now.

Just try to stay calm when you go for the bloodwork up, they take a lot of vials of blood, I think my count was like 7-9 last time. Not looking forward to it this time, since my last 2 draws my vein was touchy and not wanting to let any out.

If your cycles fluxuated at all, she may want to use the u/s to date you, but my doctor didn't give me a due date until I saw her at the first visit and after seeing the u/s we confirmed I was 6 weeks not 7. I O'd late.

Congratulations and enjoy every min, even the horrible ones.
