Default What do you give to a friend for looking after your dog?

a co-worker of DH has offered to look after Barley while we are away for a 4 day weekend. He and his wife have been wanting to lok after him for quite a while now and we have always kenneled him. Sooo I have no idea what we should give them as a thankyou for looking after our puppy. Our kennel costs almost 20 dollars a day so they are saving us about 50.00 by taking him.

I know if we try to give them cash they won't accept it so I am thinking we should pick them up something on our weekend trip. We are going to Dublin so I was thinking maybe something from the Guiness Factory but not sure if that is a good gift or not. A bottle of wine doesn't seem quite enough..unless it is a good bottle of wine.

What have you given to friends who have looked after your pet?

    Any suggestions would be great!!

Depending on the friend we have given cash, gift cards, something from the trip that we thought they might like, and a couple times we have taken them out for dinner and a movie.

If they like Guiness, then I say for sure get them something from there. A little local treat or knicknack (if they like stuff like that) would be appropriate as well.

That's nice that they are offering to watch your pup for you - very generous.

I watch our friends cat sometimes since they would prefer not to kennel him (and I love him...he's my other husband ). They usually give us a bottle of wine and make us a nice dinner as a thank you. I watched Kenny (the cat) for two weeks over Christmas, and they've been wanting to take us out for a nice dinner for that. Truly, though, it's not necessary -- I love the cat and I was happy to do it. A decent bottle of wine is definitely enough.

We dog sit A LOT for one of our friends here. Depending on the length of stay, they have given us Borders gift certificates, an Omaha Steak package o' meat, or a gift form wherever they went. We tell them every time not to get us anything, since we do our laundry there, and they totally stock the house with food, but it's a nice treat!

I looked after a co-workers cats for a week and she gave me a really nice gift certificate to a restaurant ($75). It was totally unexpected but a really nice surprise. If you take someone out to dinner then you have to arrange a time, etc. But with a g.c. the people can go whenever they want.

Our friends watched our two ferrets for about two weeks over the summer while we road tripped. We took them out to sushi as a token of our gratitude!

Just this last weekend, we dog-sat for my cousin. She baked us a better-than-sex cake, and I loved it!

It was so worth having a pesky dog around for the weekend.
