I have a random question for you all. I am having a scheduled c/s this Friday. I wanted to do a little pampering tomorrow (mani and pedi) to get ready for the big day. I was just told by my dad's g-friend that you cannot have any kind of nail polish on your fingernails for the c/s (something about an oxygen sensor). I had no idea! Is this true?
That is true. I did not have a scheduled C-Section, but when labor was not progressing and I had to have a C, I had to take off all jewelery including e-rings and they too the nail polish off my nails. But now that I think about it, they didnt take it off my toes. Hmmm I wonder why.
The amount of saturated oxygen in your blood is measured by a "pulse ox" (pulse oximeter). It can't function properly if you have nail polish on. Toe nail polish shouldn't be a problem b/c the pulse ox goes on your finger (usually your pointer finger).
Wow, interesting! It's funny, I look at the picture of myself with DD immediately after she was born (C-section) and I see my wedding ring, earrings, etc...guess they forgot to tell me to take them off, or forgot to take them off for me! I did not know that about the nail polish though.
