Has anyone ever had this? My friend (the one I asked about last week) got a call from her doctor and they said her biopsy came back negative but that they want to do some kind of acid peel on her cervix once every 2 weeks?
Has anyone heard of this before? Sounds painful...
Yup, I had this done for Mild Dysplasia. I had moderate but cryofreezing got it to mild and since I had moderate they wanted to make sure they got rid of everything.
I had it done once with a repeat pap 6 weeks later. Every 2 weeks sounds harsh to me especially since nothing came out of the biopsy. I would probably get a 2nd opinion.
Anyway, they spread this stuff on your cervix, and let it site for a little bit, like 5 minutes. To me it was very painful and I was cramping very bad, but the dr's were very surprsed at that. They had done it many times before and it wasn't supposed to be painful. Anyway, after about 5 min or so (can't remember the exact time), they add a neutralizer to stop the acid. YOu have some discharge for a little while and that is about it.
Well, here's the thing. She was diagnosed with HPV a while back. She had to have 2 leeps surgeries bc she had precancerous cells. Well, she had an abnormal pap again a few weeks ago and they said she had an incompetent cervix and that they'd need to do a bopsy to find out why its making her pap abnormal. So they did the biopsy and it came back negative for both CIN3 (which is what she had) and HPV but that it might be all of the scar tissue making her pap come back abnormal and that to get this treatment bc it will clear everything up (or something like that).
Does that sound right? He is saying the scar tissue might be causing the abnormal paps.
Honestly I don't know the answer to that. If she decides to do it, maybe have it done once and then get a pap and see how it comes back, that is what I would do. It will probably take the scar tissue away, but I couldn't imagine having it done every 2 weeks. It is not a really invasive treatment, it supposidly quite mild and you heal quickly after it. I hope she figures out what she wants to do!
