Default Gift Exchange Ideas, $15-$20 Range

My family does a gift exchange every year. We all bring one gift (for a male or female). It should be in the $15-$20 range. Then we do a white elephant type exchange (draw numbers, can steal a previously opened gift, only 3 steals per gift).

I want rockin' gifts this year - the type that everyone want! Any ideas?

It's been my experience that the most coveted $15-$20 gifts are alcohol related (bottle of wine, liquor, cute margarita glasses, mixes) and holiday home decor. If you're exchanging on Christmas day, then obviously it would be too late for Christmas decorations, but you could maybe do some cute Valentine day decor (wreath, coasters, serving dish). Hope that helps!

DH's family does the exact same thing for christmas, except that they seperate it into guys and girls each having their own gifts (the girls bring a girlie gift, the guys a manly gift.) The only problem is they tend to have totally different taste in things then I do so it's really hard. This year I'm thinking of making up some mixes for deserts, all the dry ingredients with directions on what to add and how to make it. But I'm not 100% sure on that yet.

My DH's office does the Naughty Santa each year. Some good gift ideas are:

    - Gift Card to Blockbuster or music store
    - Chia Pet (really, there was a fight over it)
    - Remote Control Car (my DH has one that he fought for)

My parents do this with their neighbors, and some are pretty nice:

Car wash kit (can be for either but my mom usually buys it for the guys)
    Movie basket (DVD and popcorn)
    Champagne
    Photo frames/albums

We do this with friends, so liquor is a big one. Other things people like: Starbucks GC, Blockbuster GC, a "hot" DVD (Maybe Return of the King? or Madagascar? depending on your crowd), coffee w/ mug, etc. I personally don't like to receive "stuff", so GCs are the "must have" gift for me to try for. We usually bring a GC or something consumable, like a box of truffles or something.

ETA: I forgot, people also go crazy for scratch off lotto tickets.

Last year we did a gift exchange at a Christmas party with a bunch of our friends. The rules were $20 limit, & gifts had to fit into the theme of "entertainment". The most popular items seemed to be the restaurant gift certificates & party games (Trivial Pursuit, Scene It, etc.)

We'll probably be doing something similar again this year, so the ideas in this thread are great...I'll be back if I need inspiration for my gift contribution this year.

Bump - I've got one more gift exchange gift to get.

Gift 1 - $15 Blockbuster card with Jiffy Pop (the totally retro, cook on the stove type) and movie candy (whoppers, milk duds).
