I took a HPT about an hour ago on my lunch break and got a ++. I'm still in shock and feel like I should call and tell DH, but I don't want to give him this kind of news over the phone and at work. Don't get me wrong he will be very happy b/c we have been TTC, but both of us were commenting the other day about how we didn't think this was our month ;) .

So how did you tell DH you were PG? I know there are a ton of threads on the WC, but I wouldn't even know where to look for them now.

Thanks in advance :)

Andrea

First off CONGRATULATIONS!

I am not pg yet, but I have a bib that says I love daddy, and the "My Boys Can Swim" book put away to give him.

Can't wait to hear how you decide to tell him and what other ideas you get from others. Good luck.

I didn't get to surprise DH because he wanted to be there each and every time I took an HPT, but I was planning to go to the bookstore and buy a book on baby development, (From Conception to Birth is the most awesome book!, and the Miracle of Life book) and maybe put a little marker/note on the photo that is the approximate day of the embryo, and leave it where he can find it.

I actually have bought these books for DH anyway, and he loves them! Men are so much more visually inclined, and being able to see what their baby looks like is very reality driven for them- or at least for my DH… he loves being able to follow the progress.

Have fun! :D

I camcorded him when he came home for work and found the pregnancy tests. I'm sooooo glad I did, because now I have his reaction on tape when he found out he was going to be a father. Plus, it was a great way to share the news with both of our families.

It was a pretty long TTC journey for us & DH was very involved the whole time (with my charts, all the testing, etc.) I saw the *faintest* line on 9dpo, and called him (he was camping with friends) to tell him... I would have done something cuter if it had not been such an emotional process for us... and if I had more patience! FWIW, he was super excited and couldn't stop thinking about it for the rest of the trip!

CONGRATS!!!

Congrats! That is so exciting!

I am not PG but have been thinking about how I am going to tell DH when we do finally get PG.

I can't wait to hear how you tell him!

Congrats! How exciting!

I think I would wait until he got home. I asked a similar question on the old board; since my DH travels so much, I wondered if I should tell him on the phone or wait until he got home. I think being able to see his face & share in the joy would be priceless.

Thank you all :). I like the conception book idea, but don't know if I'll be able to get to the bookstore. I also like the camcorder idea. The only problem with that is that if he gets home before me I'll have to sneak around and set up the camcorder in our bedroom.

I still have my PG test (i've looked at it like 10,000 times) so I'm thinking I might just wrap it up along with a pair of baby socks or something and give it to him while video taping his reaction.

I also have the strong urge to call my mom, but there is no way I can tell her before I tell DH. She would have called everyone in the family before the of the day :D

I got DH the book The Baby Owner's Guide and two cute things from Baby Gap. When he got home I told him there was a box on the table for him. He opened it looked at me and said "Are you pregnant?" He didn't think I was testing for another couple of days.

*CONGRATULATIONS!!*

Sorry, I don't have a cool story of how I told him, but this is what happened....

I took my HPT in the morning (DH was still asleep) and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me (because we had been trying for a year with no success). I went over to the bed and said "Uhhh, do you see a line??"....with his eyes barely open, he looked and popped up like a jack in the box and said "OMG! THERE'S A LINE! YOU'RE PREGNANT!!!!!!!" with the biggest grin in the world :D

Oh, but I always thought the cutest way to tell someone is to put a BUN in the oven and ask him to go check on what's in the oven ;)

That is too cute!!

Congratualtions!

It was around Christmas time so I wrapped a blue bib that said "I love my daddy" and gave it too him.
I wanted to call me so bad and tell him before he got home but I am glad i waited to see the expression on his face.

So I told DH tonight. He called about 5:45 (around the time he usually gets home) to tell me he had to work late. The wait almost killed me. It was hard enough to wait to come home from work.

Anyway, I wrapped up the HPT and put it and the baby socks together. When he opened it he kind of looked confused and I asked him if he knew what the test was and he said yes and immediately gave me a big hug :D.

That's what I did the second time I got pg. The first time I came out of the bathroom YELLING, "There's two lines!!!"

This time I bought a bun and out the pg test in the bun with a picture of DD holding a sign saying, "I'm going to be a big sister in Jan." I had the video camera ready and caught DH's expression as he opened the oven. It was great. :)

ETA~ I forgot to say CONGRATS!!! :D

We'd only been trying for a month when I got my BFP, but I had an idea already picked out from MS for when we were successful. I took out our fancy ice bucket that was a wedding gift and our crystal wedding toasting goblets. I tied a pink ribbon around one and a blue on the other. I chilled a bottle of sparkling cider and had it all out on the table (along with the + test) when he got home.
Unfortunately he had a horrid day at work and was super tired. He didn't really "get it" and when he finally did - he hugged me and said "good for you"! I still tease him to this day and he will never live down his lackluster reaction. Now that I'm 25 weeks +, he's much more excited and cute about it all. But I still feel a little sad that the moment of reveal to my DH was not as "romantic" as I had envisioned. Oh well, he is a man after all!

I plan on making a homemade card on my computer that says:
Rachel and Joe
Sitting in a tree
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
First comes love
Then comes marriage
Then comes a baby
In a baby carriage
EDD: ??/??/??

I will use a baby-type graphic on the cover and on the inside I will write "WE DID IT!!!"
That's the most creative thing I can come up with. ;)

I took a HPT after DH went to work and got a +, so the first thing I did was call in sick to work. I went to surprise DH at his work and on the way I stopped off and got a stuffed duck and an "I love my daddy" bib. I put the bib on the duck and wrapped it up tight in a big easter egg (it was almost easter). When he saw me at his job he was a little confused as to why I was there and I just said I'd been out shopping and got something he needed to see. We went outside so he could open it and when he did he justs said "oh, that's cute". (He didn't get it...he thought I was just buying more stuff because we were trying). We hugged and I was crying...then whispered "I took a test this morning". He FINALLY caught on to what I was trying to say and started to cry himself. Then he was ready to run through the building telling everyone. :)

Unfortunately that pregnancy ended a short time later, but we were able to conceive again almost immediately. The second time I just called him and said "how did you know?" because I hadn't felt good for a day or two and he was teasing me that it was morning sickness....little did I know, he was right.

I was ill with a violent flu, and had tested on a whim.
Since I couldn't muster any energy to go out and prepare something cute I put all 5 +HPTs in a gift bag with a notecard on which I wrote:

Dear Daddy,

CONGRATULATIONS!

Love,
Mommy

He was so excited, and had to look at every one of the HPTs in there!

We are currently TTC and I came up with an idea the other night. I was thinking about a thread over *there* a while back about what husbands do right. I was thinking about making a card that says "Today's Top Ten Reasons Why I Love You" and list 10-2 on the front. Then when he opens it #1 will be either "Your boys can swim!" and accompany it with the book, or something more sentimental like "You are going to make me a mommy in May (or whenever EDD is)."

In which direction do you all think I should take this? Funny or sappy? I lean toward funny because of our personalities, but I can't decide. Hopefully I will get to use this idea soon!

Maybe you could make the #1 reason "sappy" and get your funnies in by presenting him with the My Boys Can Swim book?

I dunno?!? Just a thought of how to do both.

Best wishes in getting to try this idea out on him SOON! *crossing fingers*!

He was in the bathroom with me, 3 minutes after I peed on that stick, so he knew right away. :D

After a year and a half TTC and four losses, it was pretty anti-climactic when I told him. I took the test, wandered into the computer room where he was watching TV and handed it to him. He took one look at it, we both started laughing, and he high-fived me. It wasn't really an "OMG! We're pregnant!" reaction -- more like "Here we go again!"

I did the whole bun in the oven, and made him check thing... but he didn't even get it, haha.

But I did get this card and put it with the HPT and outside it said, make a wish, and inside i wrote, b/c sometimes, they come true...

and in big letters it said, DREAM BIG.... and in my own handwriting i wrote, b/c that's what i'm gonna get... BIIIIGGGG!!! :)

We both had a laugh, I ran out of tears the day before, and i nearly exploded in talking b/c I was going on and on how tough of a secret it was to keep, and now i finally have someone to talk to hahahaha. DH thought it was hilarious.

I had not been feeling like myself for a week. I knew when I was suppose to start and it came and went. So three days later I took a test. DH knew that I was going to be testing. I took the test about 30 before he came home from work. When the words came up 'pregnant' I couldn't believe my eyes. I was in shock after that. I wanted to surprise him but my mind was not letting me think at that point. I went to sit down on the bed and that's where I was when he came home. The test was still sitting on the bathroom counter. That was his first stop when he got home, so he saw the test immediately. We were both in shock but happy, excited, thrilled, and a few other emotions all at once.

So I didn't get to surprise DH the way I wanted to. Maybe next time.
