We take DS to a house in the neighbor who runs a daycare. She needs to take Friday off. Do I have to pay her? I just don't understand how it all works. Last time she took a day off (her sons graduation) I asked if I had to pay her that day and she said yes. I understand that if WE keep him out of daycare we should pay her (ie-vacation) But when SHE closes, should I have to pay her?
Is it even worth bringing it up? I don't want to piss her off, since she does watch DS!!
Please let me know what you think.

did you sign a contract.
when dd was in day care, the provider got 2 weeks paid vacation. granted she never took them off all at once, and she counted holidays as her time.
we were allowed to take 2 weeks vacation too, so we decide if we want to pay her when we go on vacation, or when she takes vacation.

My ds goes to an in-home daycare, and our contract states that we will pay if WE keep ds home, but if my daycare provider takes a sick day or needs a day off, we don't have to pay. She only takes teacher's kids, so she doesn't make us pay for the school holidays, however we do pay an extra $25 per week compared to the other in-home daycares. Totally worth it, though.
I know that some in-home daycares state that they are "allowed" five paid holidays or something similar. I would bring it up. It seems unfair that you should have to pay her when she takes a day off AND you have to find alternate daycare (and probably pay them too!)

I understand that if WE keep him out of daycare we should pay her (ie-vacation) But when SHE closes, should I have to pay her? I dont think so. If it was a holiday (thxgvng, xmas, etc) then, yes, I would say that she should be paid, but if it's just a regular ole day that she has decided to take off then...no, I would not think that payment would be required.
At DD's daycare their policy is: If WE take a vacation...we still pay. If THEY take a vacation...we don't, unless it is a holiday day" For instance, during Thanksgiving week our daycare will be OPEN on Mon, Tues, but CLOSED on Wed, Thurs, Fri, AND closed on the following Mon & Tues. We will only be paying them for Mon-Tues & Thurs (Thanksgiving week), and Wed-Fri of the following week.
Of course they are also taking off Veterans Day
Good luck!!!!

At my son's daycare, we paid her for holiday's (she listed them out in her contract), when my son stayed home, and for her 2 weeks of vacation. If she was sick and had to close we did not pay her.
The only thing I can think is that maybe your provider is using "vacation days"? Maybe she takes two weeks worth of vacation, but spread out using days? If you have a contract with her, I'd go through and read it and see how she phrases things in there.

It will probably depend on your contract as every provider is different. My contract states that she takes 2 paid weeks vacation, 10 paid holidays and 5 paid sick/personal days. We have been there over a year and she has never used a sick or personal day but if she did I would expect to pay her. We pay for any time we are out (vacation, sick).
