Did any of you bury a statue of St. Joseph in order to sell your house? If so, did it work? I'm not Catholic, but my realtor is...so if it works, then I'll let her bury the statue.

The people we bought our house from had buried St Joseph, we know b/c they came back for him shortly after we moved in.
I'm not sure if it worked, they did sell the house but it was on the market for a while (for sale by owner).

I am not Catholic but my mother used to be (she converted to my father's religion- methodist-after my bro and I were born). Anyway, YES! She/we have sold 3 houses within weeks of burying St. Joseph statue. And, you must take him out when you leave! Also, I think she burined him upside down.

My parents buried one, but my father buried him the wrong way. Hes dug holes in the yard looking for him. Guess its a lost cause.. And nope the house hasn't sold. I couldn't believe it when I saw this thread. I thought they were nuts when they told me what they did. Glad to know others do it!

Yes, I did when we were trying to sell a house we bought. It sold maybe 4 months later, but I think I did it wrong. I've seen different ways to do it on the internet. My sister did it differently then I did and it worked for her. Her house had been on the market 6 weeks and she was eager to sell it so she bought a St. Joseph buried it up side down and said a prayer that it came with everyday and she had a contract a week later. I'd say it's worth a shot!

too funny to see this thread. I just buried one this morning! ;) i'm not catholic but DH is (and he's our realtor). Not that the house has been sitting there a while but it's not in the best neighborhood and we need it sold quickly. Can't tell you if it works personally but lots of people I know have tried it and had it work (including an aunt and MIL/FIL). I did bury him upside down facing the house and said the prayer. Hmm I hadn't heard to say the prayer daily. I'll have to do that (or have DH do it since he's the catholic in the family).
How do you know if it works? Don't most houses sell eventually anyway? ;)

I thought the same thing. St. Anthony has found many a thing for me. Most recently a hammer that DH misplaced and blamed me for losing. :D

First of all, our Jewish aunt told us about the statue! Our house was on the market for about a month, and we didn't get any offers. One day we get this statue in the mail from her, and the next day we had a deposit check!!!
pretty funny

Every house my parents have sold, we buried St. Joseph. Once we buried him the wrong way; once it was fixed we sold the house within two days.
My grandma also buried one when she sold her house. She's not Catholic but tried it anyways. Her house was on the market for six months before, then she sold it within 2 weeks.
If you believe in it (even if you're not Catholic) I think it will work. But if you just bury it and not care; then I don't think it will.

How funny to see this thread, I buried ours this morning! Our house just went on the market this week, but we're looking to sell quickly.
I just had to laugh when I received mine in the mail. My mom had ordered it for us and I got it yesterday. I didn't realize it actually came as a kit! :)

I've never even heard of this... and we managed to sell the house the day it went on the market. However, the process after the contracts were signed were was enough to put me on valium until it was all over; so maybe it would have helped with all that!!
Yup. We still didn't sell it but we figure there must be some reason that St. Joseph is making us wait.
Or I should say: I THINK THIS...my husband is Jewish so obviously he can't think it. But I did ask him to bury it and he did. He's so nice, that husband of mine.
Frankly, I tend to rely on the Virgin of Guadalupe for everything...but I went ahead and did this anyway for the heck of it. I like the statue I got and when I sell the house I will like to have it in my house.

*bump* Does anyone know the prayer you're supposed to say? We thought you just said it when you buried it... I believe I trashed the card. (How's that for faith? :p) Help?

OMG - so funny this popped up because we found one of these things buried deep in our yard. We call him Saint Concrete - b/c he's obviously the one burying random lumps of concrete 2 feet underground. Damn him! ;) :p

i did bury one when i put my house on the market. 2.5 months ago. :p however, i have received 2 offers, and had 4 offers in play (2 never made it to me, as they were ridiculous). i need to re-bury him, as i dug him up after my last offer, because we were under contract. i thought i had sold, and so i dug him up. that fell through. those folks are *still* interested, but they are being ridiculous. maybe if i bury him again they will come to their senses?????

I did it too! Our house had been the market for about 5 months and I was desperate. I bought one at the local Guild store (they said they sold lots of them) and in the ground he went, upside down of course. We were under contract within the week. I dug him up on the day of the close, put him through the dishwasher and now he sits in his prominent position in our new living room.
I would have buried Mickey Mouse if that would have sold my house.

Until SweetRed posted that picture, I was imagining life-size statues, like the kind that graced the hallways of my Catholic school. :)

It's so funny, I was reading this thread and then left the house to buy a birthday card for my mom and lo and behold, a display of St. Joseph's for sale at Hallmark. We've never sold a home so I can't say we've used it. We're actually closing on our first house on Tuesday - maybe the sellers used one, cause we sure were drawn to it the moment we saw it!

I have been working with our local humane society group, which is in the process of selling the old shelter. One of the women brought in a St. Joseph statue to bury.
It was flesh colored plastic, and the size and shape of a vibrator--you opened two little doors to see St. Joe.
We hid many giggles from the devout Catholic who had brought in the statue.

My inlaws buried one.
It took them two years and a 25% price reduction to sell their house.

wanted to come back a year after the fact and say we did get an offer on our house within a few weeks of burying Joseph. However it still took us 4 months to close because the offer was contingent on him selling his townhouse and that took longer than we anticipated. But we did have an offer within a few weeks. ;)

We had our house for sale for one month and three weeks when I buried a statue of St. Joseph. Two days later (Sunday) we had an open house; four couples came. One came back for a second showing that Wednesday and made an offer on the spot (we were FSBO). We are closing July 27.
Am I supposed to dig up the statue now? What would I do with it?!

You're supposed to dig it up, take it to your new house, and put it in a prominent location. ;)

In that case, I'm sure it will be front and center on our mantel! ;)

Just wanted to add that I buried one today. The instructions said nothing about burying it upside down only to face it away from the house. I faced it away from the house AND upside down ;) The instructions also said to say the prayer every day for 9 days or until you get a contract. I'll say the damn prayer upside down for 9 days if it will get my house sold quickly! Let's hope it works.
ETA: my dad's house was on and off the market for 9 years w/ no bites. My step-mom buried st. joseph and very soon after they had a bid and sold the house. My step-mom says it worked twice for her.

I am a huge believer in all saints and their works. With that said, I am a little peeved with my friend St. Joseph. I buried the statue in August, and my house has yet to sell.
Maybe he is frozen and needs to be replaced. haha

Sounds like you should have dug up your Joseph and taken it you your buyer's townhouse to bury it there :)

I'm right there with you! After 7 months, we finally got an offer on Friday - a good 20% less than our initial asking price. But what can we do - we have to take it. They wouldn't even negotiate.
I'm a firm believer that it's the prayers to St. Joseph that work - burying him in the backyard doesn't hurt, but I don't think it really helps either. I buried him 6 months ago, and once our contract is signed I need to figure out where he is so I can dig him up and take him with me:).

Well, St. Anthony always finds lost things for me. ALWAYS!! But I got my husband to bury the St. Joseph. He's Jewish. He was just humoring me, of course! So this is what I think happened. Can't blame St. Joseph for my laziness. (I can't remember why my husband did it...I think it was we had buyers coming and I couldn't make it over there. Or something!)
