The Daddy Work Shower

Did your significant other have a work shower? Who planned it? My husband works with mostly men (all of whom are really supportive of the baby, though), and we doubt anyone would initiate something like this. Just curious if it's this sort of thing is completely unheard of or not.

Hubby and I work for the same company....so we had a joint one :) Sorry to be no help.

BUT for the ones I have heard of, usually it's a woman who initiates the whole thing. Men don't usually do that stuff unfortunately. They will pitch in, but won't plan, send out invitations or decorate LOL.

My DH did not and he works for a mixed gender group of people. My BIL did and he works with all men (they gave him cases of diapers). My director (male) at my company also did but we are almost all women within our department.

Neither my husband or myself had work showers. We both work in mostly male environments (both electrical engineers) and we do not typically have showers for either moms or dads to be. :)

I'm glad no one planned a shower at work because I like to keep work and personal life seperate.

I had a work shower/going away party at 8 months. I got lots of great stuff and I still keep in touch w/ close coworkers I had.

DH got a book from some friends at work - What to expect from pregnancy, a male version, I forgot the actual title. They gave that to him when he told everyone I was preggo. Then the whole office chipped in and got us our high chair we wanted a bunch of baby gap clothes about a month or 2 before I was due. And then they sent cookies as a congrats when our son was born.

Same here (except that I'm a chemical engineer). My company does provide $100 gift certificates to the store of your choice for weddings and babies, though.

Oddly enough, my DH had a BRIDAL shower at work, but not one for baby. He was working for the same company, but in a different division. I know the bridal shower (which was awesome, BTW) was planned by the women in his group. At his next post, he worked w/a couple of women, but it was mostly men, so I'm guessing it didn't occur to them to plan this sort of thing.

eta: I just remembered that DH quit his job about 4 weeks after DD was born and his company did manage to put together a little going-away luncheon PLUS a nice gift certificate, so they're not totally clueless on the gift thing, just the baby part ;) :p

I guess I am in the minority here. Hubby is having one!

The ladies at work are throwing it for him, eventhough he works equally with men and women. It is actually this thursday and it is a surprise! The woman planning it called me the other week to see if I could make it, and even asked where we were registered. I have never met anyone he works with as many of them are older and he just doesn't socialize with them outside of work.

The funny thing was they threw him a groomal (bridal) shower when we got married three years ago. And a few weeks ago, before I knew about the shower this week, I asked if he thought his work was going to throw a baby shower for him. He said no cause many of the people he used to work with are no longer there. So, he is going to be in total shock!!

Oh, and my work threw me one too. Small cake and presents get together. It was very nice.

DH's company (mostly women) gave him a cake before we got married and then gave him a baby shower when I was about 8 months pg. They just went to BRU (where we were registered) and got a gift card that they all chipped in on. If I remember correctly we got like $125!! It was really nice!

my DH owns his company. the guys that work for him all bought us baby gifts after DS was born. they didn't have a shower really though.

DH had a wedding shower and a baby shower. His group is mixed gender but they are good about doing parties/gifts. I believe it was co-planned by a female co-worker and his officemate who is male. They got us a variety of small baby gifts and a monetary gift.

Dh started his job June 1 and Grace was born July 30 so no baby shower since he was so new. His boss did buy Grace a present though. Dh graduated grad school in May and several of his friends from school pitched in and bought us a really nice gift bag of goodies. Our good friend (female) was the one that organized that and other wedding/baby gifts for other graduates.

My work threw me a Going Away/Baby Shower on my last day of work 2 weeks before Grace was born. I worked at the State Motor Pool so I worked with a lot of males and had mechanics at my work baby shower :) They were all really nice though, and I was surprised at how generous they all were!

DH did have a surprise work baby shower! They totally surprised him and he was really touched by everyone's thoughtfulness. The people that he worked directly with all got gifts for the baby, and he also got a very generous cash gift from his division of the company.

DH's manager arranged a luncheon for him and all of his co-workers chipped in to get us an Amazon gift card.

My DH is close to his co-workers, and they always do work showers for babies and weddings. They got us a toy and a very sizeable GC. It was a surprise for DH and they asked me to attend too. It was really fun, we even played games.
