I just visited a gf of mine, and her 7 month old DS. When he was about 3 months he was going through a period where he wouldn't sleep *at all* during the night. Would wake up every hour for 8 hours straight. Basically gf was hysterically tired and going out of her mind, until her chiropractor reccomended putting the baby on a magnetic pad. His first night on it, he slept for 7 hours straight!!

Basically this pad cuts out all the electrowaves from the major appliances in your home. All the electroactivity from the fridge, microwave, washer/dryer, computers, etc really upset our natural sleep patterns, and the magnetic pad makes like a "barrier" around you. They eventually bought one fo themselves too, and sleep so much better aswell.

I'd never heard of this, and was just wondering if anyone else uses this trick for their babies??

I have never heard of that? Have you seen any research about it?

That is interesting! I've never heard of that.

I havn't personally done any research on it, but my friend has. I doubt she'd use it if there was anything bad about it.

I'll try and find some info online.

"7. DURING PREGNANCY WELL MAGNETS AFFECT THE BABY? Use of MRI procedures during pregnancy is considered safe for the developing fetus. However, we do advise against using magnets during pregnancy as a precautionary measure.

11. ARE MAGNETS SAFE TO USE WITH CHILDREN? The World Health Organization consider magnets non-harzadous risks and are generally recognized as safe."

" It is the only magnetic sleep pad correctly engineered to restore an earth-type magnetic field. Our patented design accomplishes this by a specific combination of the following:

a) # of magnets (384 - 805 Depending on size of pad)
b) Size and placement of magnets - 1 7/8" x 7/8" x 3/8"
c) Strength of magnets - 3950 gauss (mfg. rating)

When correctly placed under your mattress the MagnetiCo Sleep Pad provides your body with a pure negative field ranging from 4-6 gauss that penetrates through your whole body. This may appear to be an extremely low number, however compared to earth's present depleted measurement of .4 gauss, this is a significant increase. Scientists have determined that approximately 4 gauss was the amount of magnetic field on the earth 4,000 years ago. Because the MagnetiCo Sleep Pad provides a restored earth-type field, it is safe to sleep on continuously and indefinitely. It is gentle enough for everyone from infants to centenarians!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POSITIVE (+) AND NEGATIVE (-) FIELDS AND HOW DO THEY AFFECT MY BODY?
The pure Negative (-) field is natural to the body - it enhances molecular action by speeding up the electrons and protons of the structural atoms and molecules in the body. The negative field replicates the earth's natural magnetic field in all but a few countries in the Southern Hemisphere. The molecular structure of the structural cells of the body orientates to the type of magnetic field in which it has divided. By putting your body in an enhanced magnetic field the same as the earth's that completely penetrates the whole body, you are adding to your vitality.

The Positive (+) (or mixed field) causes an emergency response by slowing down the electrons and protons which spin around the structural atoms and molecules in the body. This causes a reduction in the molecular action and hence the cellular function. As a result you will get an increase in blood flow to the area of stimulus as well as increased electrical flow from the brain. This increased electrical flow does increase molecular action. The problem with this method is that it is using up the body's emergency supply of vitality, which would normally be held in reserve for emergencies."

Wow - very interesting. I often wonder about all the radio waves and wireless internet, etc. I don't know how I would feel about sleeping right on a magnet though.

I've never heard of this particular product, but my hero, Dr. Andrew Weil, talks about the dangers of electro-magnetic waves in several of his books. He recommends against sleeping with an electric clock-radio close to your head and using electric hair dryers. He also recommends putting filter screens on old computer monitors for the same reason.

Interesting . . . .
