If you were buying a house and saw that the seller had typed up info about the neighborhood (locations of restaurant row, grocery stores and stuff), what would you want to know? So far, I have:

Restaurants
Grocery stores
Parks
Libraries
Fitness (adult gyms, children's gyms and yoga studios)
The schools for the neighborhood
Shopping/Movies
Highways/Interstates (this one I might can lose)
Utilities (I give the number of the people to call if there's a problem with power, trash pick up days, hazardous chemical pickup info and suggestions on some providers)
Random info (I mention that they have a great southern sky exposure for satellite reception...a really good ice cream place and if I lose the Highways/Interstates section, I'd put that they're only about 12 miles from downtown)

Grocery Stores
Restaurants
Schools
Distances to and from highways/aiports/etc

This is really great of you to put together! We just got done house shopping in June, and NO ONE had anything this great to say about their houses. :)

The most important to most people is schools.

What a great idea!

I would have to say parks and the post office. I couldn't figure out where the post office was for an extremely long time.

And Starbucks / other local coffee shop.

Actually any favorite restaurants you might have would be valuable. It's always good to know where the "good food" is.

Great idea Lyndsey! I was just thinking today about what we require from our next house. We shop at a Gourmet Market instead of a regular grocery store. It has become our Sunday tradition. I hope to keep it up when we move, so one of my requirements would be a gourmet market. Maybe you can find the one closest to you and put it on the list?

Best place to see fireworks every July 4th
Local pizza places that deliver
Nearest Walmart, Target, etc.

Good idea! I'll put Whole Foods on there in my grocery section.

I'll also list some of the restaurants nearby that are good (local places as opposed to chains).

Great idea DD...I'll add Wal-Mart, Target and the numbers for the pizza places nearby. Can't suggest firework displays because they give me motion sickness, so I tend not to watch them. :(

kathy, got the post office on there. Also, we have community mailboxes and the very last possible mailbox I could have tried is the one that was ours...so it would have saved me 10 minutes of my day if I had known which number was our mailbox.

The woman who just submitted an offer on our house today is from New Jersey, so I am thinking I'll leave the bit about the highways in there. I also will leave the number of who to call should the power go out or if there are problems with the lines because that may not be clear if she doesn't use the provider that owns the company that services the lines.

I did include the names of the public schools that our neighborhood dumps into in there. I am not including their state ratings because they're not so good and I am trying to sell here. ;)

Does she not know anyone in the area? If not, how about listing some places that people usually look for personal references for?
* Dry cleaner
* Your doctors and dentist
* Vet
* Carpet cleaner
* Housekeeper
* Hairdresser

When we moved in, the sellers left a neighborhood list. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for everyone on the cul de sac, and the names of their kids. It was great and it made some of those awkward first meetings a little more smooth. I would check first if people mind (unlisted numbers, etc) just to be safe.

Proximity to public transportation, if it's available in your area.

YAY! You got an offer!!!

What about the plantings in your yard? I know that we were continually surprised in our first year about what bloomed in our yard :)

Food delivery things (pizza, chinese) are a really great idea. I can't tell you how many places we had to call before finding one that would deliver to our condo!
