TTCers: Charting Our Course to the BFPs
http://www.ripleysorlando.com/images2/fertilitystatues.jpg
The fertility statues are known to work for some who rub them around the time of possible conception. It is said that the baby is the most potent part of the statue.
So rub away! :D It's worth a shot!
Who we are:
This is a group of women using charting (temperatures, CM, CP, OPK/FM results, or a combination of these) to try to conceive and, along the way, are learning a heckuvalot about their own bodies! Many of us use a software program to keep track of our charts as well as allowing us to share them with each other. The most common ones are FertitlityFriend.com and Ovusoft.com.
Your threadmistress for this thread is Baby Lust!
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me! (charting_is_knowledge@yahoo.com)
To our members:
This thread gets very busy at times, so in order to keep things less overwhelming and a bit more organized, we start a new thread each month as well as after 3 BFPs. A link to the new thread is always posted at the end of the current thread to help everyone find their way over. The threadmistress would really appreciate it if everyone would post their updates in RED. That way if I get a bit behind, it is much quicker to get the thread up-to-date.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Want to join the fun??
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter if you have never charted before or if you’ve been charting to avoid. I am sure you will find lots of help and support in this group. Please don't be discouraged by the number of posts in this thread. You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page. Just read through these first couple of posts and post a reply with the following information and we will get you added right away. Of course, none of this info is a must but we like to know a little bit about one another.

- Getting started
Welcome to charting! If you’ve never charted before, here are some resources to help you get started. It seems intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy and even fun.
First, get ahold of a copy of this:
Taking Charge of Your Fertility (http://www.ovusoft.com/) (aka TCOYF)
This book is the charting bible and will answer all your initial questions – and then some. It is more than worth buying, or at least borrowing!
How to get started:
The most important thing you will need to TTC with charting is a basal body thermometer. There are several different brands to chose from. Here are a few things to consider when buying a BBT:
- Accu-beep; the thermometer will beep while taking your temp as a signal that you have placed the thermometer correctly. (Cover the speaker in the back with your thumb if it disturbs anyone sleeping next to you. ;))
- Light; I am sure most TTCers will tell you this is one of the most important features. The light lights up the display of the thermometer, which allows for easy reading in bed. Typically comes with trial offer of TCOYF charting software.
You will also need charts. The two most popular charting software are
www.fertilityfriend.com or www.ovusoft.com.
You can download free paper charts from both websites. Both of these sites also allow you to keep an online chart, which makes it easy to share your chart with others. FF offers a basic software for no fee. For a fee you can also buy their VIP software, which gives you more options. Ovusoft offers a 15 day trial version. To continue using it, you have to pay a one time fee.
What to do:
Ideally you can begin on the first day of your next period. The first day is the first day of bright red blood. Once your period is started, you will need to monitor your fertility signs daily:
• Take your temperature every morning. For maximum accuracy you need to take your temperature at the same time each day and before getting out of bed.
• Check your cervical fluid every morning when you go to the bathroom and a few times during the day.
• Record your data on your chart.
The TTCer Code:
For those TTCers using charting, there's a few important rules to keep in mind so that no one gets hurt on this wild ride of ours.
Relax THIS  Never say "just relax" to another TTCer unless you want a basal thermometer jammed in your neck.
Patience May Be A Virtue, But Not Here. You are not allowed to wait until 18DPO to test, because if you do, you'll drive us all crazy. :p
BFN = Big Fat Neutral, not Big Fat Negative Don't get bummed by a BFN, it could just be too early!
It Ain't Over 'til... (y'all finish the phrase...I know you know it!)
When using an HPT, Use FMU except under special circumstances. Special circumstances are defined as being a week late for your period, at the doctor's office, or if we are particularly desperate to hear the results of your testing.
A Line is Practically Always A Line As long as it's read within the time limit specified on the test instructions, and as long as you're not on any crazy monkey pregnancy hormones (HCG trigger shots will show up as a positive) or something.
There Are No Dumb Questions Here Unless your question is "Hey, today is my 18th high temperature in a row; should I test?"
You are not allowed to use "I've got cramps so I can't be pregnant" as an excuse not to test... when you know full well that half the preggos on the board thought "Oh I am so crampy, AF is on the way for sure" right before testing BFP.

Things I Have Learned About TTC
by WC's Sherylb
TTC is a journey. You will discover things about yourself that you never expected. You will face fears you never thought you had. You will find joy in little things.
TTC can bring you closer to your DH or it can pull you apart. If your marriage is not solid, you will find out quickly.
No one understands exactly what you are feeling at any given moment, but someone can empathize at least a little bit.
You will experience an emotional roller coaster ride. There will be highs and lows and fast moments and slow. Sometimes you have to wait in a very, very slow moving line. You may not even get the seat you want. It is not always fun, it can be scary, but in the end it is worth it.
"Just relax" is the last thing in the world you want to hear from someone, but it is OK if you say it about yourself.
There will be moments when you question your own decision to start TTC. You will wonder if you should wait or if you should just give up. Those are normal. But you will get past those feelings.
The blue and green turtle likes to pop its head out! You will hear of someone's pregnancy and turn green with envy and blue inside because it isn't you.
It isn't fair, it isn't easy, and it isn't pretty. But you keep doing it because the reward is worth it.
You will be your best friend and your worst enemy. Your body will
surprise you and yet disappoint you.
Some women do get lucky and conceive right away. Others aren't so lucky and have to struggle to get there. Hope you will be in the first category, but prepare yourself to be in the second.
Once you decide to TTC, there will be babies and pregnant women
everywhere. You could swear there is a baby boom going on!
You will have questions. No one will ever be in exactly your position, so don't be surprised when no one can give you exactly the answer you are looking for. But there are people that can contribute, so don't be afraid to ask!
Two lines on a pregnancy test is not the end of the struggle. Pregnancy has lots of struggles in and of itself.

These numbers might come in handy when shopping for HPTs. The lower the amount of mIU measured, the more sensitive the test is!

- Common TTC abbreviations
This is a list of some of the more common TTC abbreviations. I know as a newcomer to the FB threads it can be hard to keep them all straight. I hope these will help and if anyone has any they would like added please let me know.
•2WW ~ "2 week wait"; approximate time from possible conception to menstruation due date, when pregnancy tests can/should be taken
•AF ~ "Aunt Flo"; your period; menstruation
•AFNW ~ "Aunt Flo Not Wanted"; the day your period is expected to start (but you are hoping it doesn't!)
•AO ~ anovulatory (cycle without ovulation)
•BBs ~ "boobs"; breasts
•BBL ~ "be back later"
•BBT ~ basal body thermometer; this is used to measure your basal body temperature (when you wake up in the morning after at least 3 hours of sleep, before you start to move around); use a special BBT thermometer to take your temperature, because they measure the small changes in temperature from day to day more accurately than the regular fever thermometers
•BCP ~ birth control pills
•BD ~ "baby dancing"; baby-making intercourse
•BFN ~ "big fat negative"; negative pregnancy test
•BF ~ breast-feeding
•BRB ~ "be right back"
•CD ~ cycle day; a particular day in your menstrual cycle (example: CD1 is the first day of your period)
•CL ~ cover line; a visual tool used to separate the low (pre-ovulatory) temps from high (post-ovulatory) temps; a coverline is typically based on the temperatures 6 days prior to ovulation
•CM ~ cervical mucus; one of the most useful clues your body can give you in predicting your fertility; it can range from dry, creamy, sticky, or (the most fertile) egg white type
•CF ~ cervical fluid; same as cervical mucus
•CP ~ cervical position; an optional, but sometimes really useful, fertility sign; CP will generally be low, firm and closed before and after ovulation, and high, soft and open during your fertile time
•DD ~ "dear daughter"
•DH ~ "dear husband"
•DS ~ "dear son"
•DPO ~ days past ovulation; number of days from your post-ovulatory temperature rise (example: 1DPO is the day after your ovulation)
•Endo ~ endometriosis (can be a fertility problem)
•EDC and EDD ~ estimated date of confinement (antiquated, but still used by physicians) and estimated date of delivery
•EPT ~ a brand of pregnancy test, or, generic for "early pregnancy test "
•EW or EWCM ~ egg white cervical mucus; the most fertile quality CM; it is slippery, clear and stretchy, like egg whites; also EWCF
•FAM ~ Fertility Awareness Method; the method of fertility and/or birth control that correlates the physical changes you experience during your cycle to predict when you are most fertile
•FF ~ Fertility Friend, an online (free, for basic services) fertility charting site (website); (could also be formula feeding; check context)
•FM ~ fertility monitor
•FMU ~ first morning urine
•FP ~ follicular phase; the phase before ovulation, where the egg matures in the ovaries
•FRED ~ First Response Early Detection (pregnancy test)
•HCG ~ human chorionic gonadotropin; the hormone that is present during pregnancy and what the HPT's and blood test measure to determine if you are pregnant
•HTH ~ "hope that helps"
•HPT ~ home pregnancy test; a urine pregnancy test you can do at home
•IMHO ~ "in my humble opinion"
•IMO ~ "in my opinion"
•IUI ~ intra-uterine insemination
•IVF ~ in vitro fertilization
•KU ~ knocked up
•LH ~ leutenizing hormone; the LH surge is what is measured by the OPKs; this hormone signals the egg to burst from the ovary
•LP ~ luteal phase; the phase of your cycle that begins just after ovulation and continues for 10-18 days, ending with the start of your next period; during the LP, your body continues to build up the lining of your uterus, and produce hormones which would support a pregnancy; this is the time when a fertilized egg can implant into the uterine lining
•NFP ~ Natural Family Planning; similar to FAM, but with abstinence during the fertile period
•O, Oing, Oed ~ ovulation, ovulating, or ovulated
•OPK ~ ovulation predictor kit; tests for presence of LH surge that usually precedes ovulation by 12-48 hours; these tests are quite expensive and not always accurate (if you take medication or depending on your age); these are optional when charting with FF, but if your fertility data is not clear it can bring more light and help interpret difficult cases
•OS ~ Ovusoft; charting software based on TCOYF
•PCOS ~ polycystic ovarian syndrome (a fertility problem)
•PG ~ pregnant
•PIAC ~ pee in a cup
•POAS ~ pee on a stick
•RE ~ reproductive endocrinologist
•SA ~ semen analysis
•SH ~ "sweet husband"
•SO ~ "significant other"
•SYS , SYL ~ See ya soon! or See ya later!
•TCOYF ~ Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler; a book about charting and fertility (website)
•TMI ~ "too much information"
•TTA ~ "trying to avoid"
•TTC ~ "trying to conceive"
•TTFN ~ "ta-ta for now"
•TTYL , TTYS ~ "talk to you soon" or "talk to you later"

I already have a question about my temps. Are they supposed to fluctuate that much? I just started temping and don't have much of a clue what I'm doing.
Baby Lust
06-25-2005, 08:15 PM
Typically, your temps do fluctuate during AF, and your are actually fairly normal! That's great! They will always come down from your post-O temps, then become steady, then shoot back up when you O.
I will add your chart right now! :)

Oh, i'll be a cheerleader since we're not officially TTC yet :).
Kaedan's: Your chart looks totally normal. Don't worry too much about interpreting at this point or anything like that--just take down your signs as you see them and things will be much clearer in hindsight after you've ovulated. Once you've charted for a few cycles things make a ton more sense throughout your cycle and aren't as confusing.

Thanks Sevilla.
I've been charting for a few years, but never temped before. I prefer NFP to BC because I like to understand my body. But, oh boy do things change once you have a baby. I don't know what's going on with my cycle anymore. I'm hoping experts like you and Amanda can help.

Ladies, not sure how many of you read my update at WC, but here goes. Apologies for those of you who have already read it, or some version of it.
I'm currently at CD 11 with some weird temp swings, and one low temp around CD7 which made me think I might be O'ing, but my temps are sort of back to where they should be for pre-O temps and no cross-haris from FF so I am inclined to think it was a weird aberration. Or it could be lack of sleep, which is probably explained by the next bits.
Now for the not so good news. My stress level ratcheted up several levels on Friday. DH left his old job, went to a new one, and in the boss's words, was doing an "excellent job". And you know what? He was let go after 3 weeks because the person they originally wanted came back and told the boss she was available! How low is that??? His old boss was so pissed that he left that he'd never sign off on an unemployment claim, and DH didn't work long enough for this new guy to be able to apply. He was working as an independent contractor, but was going to be put on the books as an employee, he even filled out the W-4 forms early last week! Because he technically wasn't an employee yet, he's probably screwed when it comes to unemployment benefits.
I'm so mad  I'd like to go down there and beat the living daylights out of this guy for screwing with my husband's head. As I told my husband, its not even the money issue because we can get by and be comfortable. We're not going to fall behind on our bills, we have a roof over our heads, we're not going to starve, we have some savings in the bank and we are going to do alright. But what I am upset about is that boss f-ed with his head and made him feel like he's worthless, even though he's not and he is one of the hardest working individuals you would ever meet! That is their big loss.
But we most definitely did not need the added stress as we TTC our first. When I came home on Friday and found my DH home before me and he told me what had happened, I felt like a ton of bricks had hit me. Then he told me that this was not going to affect our decision to try and get pregnant I wanted just to sit down and cry. I'm doing better now (within reason) and DH is going to be actively job search come tommorrow. He has a lot of contacts, so hopefully he won't be out of work long. I just dread telling our respective sets of parents. We didn't tell them over the weekend, because we wanted them to enjoy it, but DH will be telling both of them tommorrow.

Bellefior ~ I am so sorry to hear about what happened with your husband's job situation. What his boss did is terrible. Does he have any legal recourse for what happened (i.e. at-will employee vs. contractual employee)? I hope it works out for you. It sounds like your husband won't have trouble finding another job b/c his former (albeit brief) employer will probably give him a glowing recommendation (if he knows what's good for him!)

Bellefior, I never did say how sorry I am that you're going through this! But, in answer to your question on WC, the fact that your DH is a contractor doesn't matter. If he did ANY work for this guy AT ALL, even if he hasn't yet been paid for it, it is considered employment. If you want to PM me I may be able to walk you through it. My last cycle took forever...81 days. Good lord, I hope that was still part of getting used to being off the pill and that they're not all going to be that long. However, my cycles were always long and irregular before BCPs, and I found out recently that my sister's are about 2 months each, and that my mother's were 4 months! Yipes.
The good news I have discovered through charting: I do seem to be ovulating, and my luteal phase seems like it is a normal, healthy length. The bad news: wild unpredictability, and no EWCM that I have seen. I am hoping that comes back the longer I am off BCPs...
I have forgotten how to post links, instead of whole web addresses...could someone remind me? Thanks!
Bellefior

Thanks for the offer Flygirl. However, it looks like the laws in our state do not allow for an independent contractor to collect. :( We're going to verify this with the DES tommorrow, it may be because he job before this one he was on the books as an employee, had taxes withheld, etc., he may qualify anyway. At least that's what we are hoping.

What do you all think about posting our CD and DPO in the subject line since we can't use tickers over here? I know they did this on WC, and I know sometimes you forget or just post a quick fly-by, but even if we did it 75% of the time, we would be able to keep track of where everyone is and can chart-stalk more easily.

Probably left-over AF. I've had that after BD; orgasm contractions help pull the semen inside and then as it trickles out it collects any extra blood hanging around.
Could we be any more TMI here?!
Bellefior, best of luck to your DH tomorrow! I just realized I didn't clarify myself :o Some states don't allow contractors to file if they're full-time contractors. Thank you!! I am not so technically savvy, unfortunately...
I have a question about Clomid and things of that sort. When your doctor starts you on them, when in your cycle does that occur? Do you think it would be something a doctor would consider for someone with loooong, unpredicatable cycles like mine, if I am in fact ovulating? Or is it only for those who are not ovulating at all?
Thanks in advance!

Oops! Cross-post! I definitely think you are a perfect candidate for Clomid! It will shorten your cycles by a ton and will give you a nice strong O and will up your progesterone too! Have you talked to your Dr about it? Usually they do the fertility workup first. Definitely a SA. Then s/he will decide what cycle days are best for you. Typically, it is anywhere from CD3-7 to 6-10.
It would be worth it to ask! :) Best of luck!

Thanks! I haven't seen a doctor yet; I am new(ish) to the area and have a new patient appointment, but it's not until July 11, and I am wondeing if that will be too late into the cycle to do anything this cycle (hello, patience? ) and I am dreading another 2+ month cycle. I went to Dr on Friday to get something for the eternal cold I have been suffering with (it was an Urgent care place, but there are regular Drs there too) and I really liked the lady who took care of me...she was very interested in the TTC conversation and I am wondering about going back to her sooner rather than waiting for the July lady, who is an unknown entity.
Anyway, thanks for the info. I think I will talk to her on Monday when she calls me with teh results of my blood test, which I now know will be negative. :(

Do you know what CD you will be on then? If you tell them about your superlong cycles, or better yet, bring your charts, typically they will start Provera to induce AF if she doesn't arrive by CD35 or something like that. I would just express to them that you don't want to wait for another long cucle. Maybe they can do the fertility workup while you are finishing out your 35-day cycle. If you like the other lady better, I would definitely call and see if she can see you! You definitely have to be comfy with your doc when it comes to TTC! :o

Anyone??
No personal experience, but I know it's discussed & suggested in TCOYF.
Try taking an expectorant found in cough syrups such as Robitussin, or long-actingtablets of Humabid LA, both of which have the active ingredient guaifenesin. Along with helping to liquify mucas in the lungs, it also has the added benefit of making your cervical fluid wetter. So if you only produce sitcky or creamy cervical fluid, you could try this: 2 tsps, 3x/day, starting several days before your anticipated ovulation through to the last day of your temp shift. (Caution! Be sure to use plain Robitussin, since the other types can actually dry up your cervical fluid.)
*Sorry if this is redundant!*

Sorry Babylove! :o I have heard of many women using it to increase EWCM, and for some it worked, and for some it didn't. I have a QOTD for Monday. When you BD, do you try to orgasm after "the deposit" is made or do you just go with the flow? Jody mentioned this earlier in the thread, and WebMD mentions this as well. You are supposed to orgasm after your DH in order to get the boys where they are going. So does anyone make a point of doing this?

In March we decided to "see what happens" and somewhere around the April/May timeframe I got the baby bug big time! QOTD
Since it is practically Monday here, I'll get us rolling on this one. We go with the flow. I have never heard about it making a difference. DH has always been overly concerned about me having an orgasm first, so if I am supposed to after him, we have some adjustments to make!

QOTD : Huh! Learn something new every day, I guess!! I didn't know I was supposed to go after...we are usually simultaneous, actually -- just how we do things around here. Makes sense, though...I would think simultaneous would also be good, though, wouldn't it? (And I mean that in more than a "Was it good for you?" way...)

Baby Lust ~ Thanks! I don't know if I am going to try it. I invested in some preseed and that probably does the trick anyway.
QOTD ~ We just go with the flow. Between temp taking, CM observing, BD'ing, OPKs, etc. there is already enough to obsess about...I think I would go crazy if I had to time an orgasm too! LOL!

QOTD We go with the flow. This is our first month of seeing what happens while charting. Just going with the everyother day for as many days as we can ;) Perhaps if things don't happen after a few months of this, then we will try all the weapons.
I will be shocked if we actually get PG on our first cycle. I do have to say this TTC stuff is stressful. I didn't realize how much of a control person I really was until - hey, can't 'really' control when you are going to get PG. I mean we can try and hope, but it may not happen at the snap of the fingers. I hope my stay is short here, but I am prepared to be here a while.

babylove - I was all excited to test this morning but my temp dropped...a bunch...so I didn't bother.
I'm pretty bummed. 13 DPO but I had a big temp drop this morning so I imagine that AF is just waiting to rear her ugly head. We'll see what happens tomorrow. :(

I decided to move over here, given all the issues on the other boards. However, we've decided not to chart this month. Since the last couple months have been fairly even and I've been having O pain, combined with the fact that we're going on some trips this month (visiting family & camping) that will hamper temping, I figured this was a good time for a quick hiatus. I might temp around O if I can, just to document the temp shift... we'll see though.
Anyways, I'm on CD 6 so you can put me into Waiting to O. Thanks. :)

Katmg~ about the temp drop. Hopefully the witch will stay away.
I am currently 9dpo (obviously that is what my title says, lol). I had my temp go up again. For the last six cycles my temp always dropped on day 10 so I am anxiously awaiting what tomorrow will bring.
QOTD ~ I don't really worry about it, even though WebMD said to wait. I can't really controll it when an orgasim happens, but most times it isn't when we are BDing because that is usually as my husband calls it "just a deposit".

Good morning!
I am 7dpo today. I didn't temp though, I was starting to obsess way too much and found myself waking up at 4 am waiting to temp. So I probably won't temp again until 12-13dpo just to see if it's still high.
I don't know if I mentioned this in the WD thread, but DH is having an SA done on July 6th. We have reason to believe he may have some issues. If he does, that will at least let us know what is going on. I know 6 cycles isn't a long time, but TCOYF says that a charter should start looking to see if something is wrong after 6 cycles.
Do any of you know where the rest of our members are? Are they over on the LJ thread? Still at WC? I hope everyone ends up over here, I love this format. But it seems like the group has been split into three parts now :(

Good morning! :D This new message board just puts me in a much better mood than the format of the new WC. :D
QOTD : We just go with the flow too. I agree with babylove. There's so much to stress over when TTC that if I tried to worry about one more thing I think I'd blow a gasket.
On that note, I forgot to mention earlier that even though this is our second cycle TTC, I'm not going to temp after I O. Watching and wondering about my post O temps just caused too much anxiety last cycle. I'm trying to approach this cycle with whole new, stress-free attitude...we'll see how long that lasts!
A quick story: The church Dh and I have been going to for the last few months is under renovation and, therefore, the concrete floors were exposed because they're getting ready to put down new carpet next week. During the pastor's sermon, he passed out permanent markers and told us to write the answer to this question on the floor: "What do you want from God to make your lives more complete?" I got tears in my eyes as I wrote "Lord please bless us with a baby." (I've noticed I've been getting a lot more emotional lateley since TTC.) So now we'll just see what's in God's plan!
katmg, I'm so sorry about your temp drop. :(
Jody , I'll be anxious to see what your temp does tomorrow too! I hope it skyrockets!!! :D
Guinness, I totally understand what you mean about turning into a stressed out control freak! It's hard to keep everything in perspective when you're ready for a baby *right now*! Good luck and hope your stay is short and sweet! :)

As for me, my temp plummeted this morning, which makes me think I will O today or tomorrow. I don't know if we will get any BDing in today though because I work both jobs and don't get off work until DH is already at work. :( That makes me sad! I was thinking about going home for lunch though. And then if we BD tomorrow, we should have our bases well-covered!

Dana, Welcome! Looking at your chart, I would say that you O'd on CD20. OS has your CL too low, IMO. With your -OPK, I think if you would have kept taking them, you would have gotten a + around CD18. If you think you O'd on a different day, you can override OS's calculations. I have done that before, but they are usually pretty accurate. If you need help overriding, let me know. My program is on my computer at home so I will have to look, but it is under Options and Preferences I believe.

Dana, You'll have to excuse my stupidity! :o :o It is definitely a Monday! I looked at the date, rather than the CD, so I think you actually O'd on CD23. That is where your temp jump makes the most sense and your CL is much more normal! Sorry! :o When will you be testing?
dlj78
06-27-2005, 02:47 PM
LOL, it's ok. I made it to CD23. I'm not sure when I should test. Usually my cycles are either 34 or 35 days. I'll get back to you on that one ;)
Baby Lust
06-27-2005, 02:53 PM
Ok, I will leave you where you are at until you get back to me. When you calculate your testing date, you should go by your Luteal Phase, not your cycle length. Your LP is always going to be almost exactly the same length. But, if you are stressed, or something delays your O, that will make your cycle longer, but your LP will stay the same. In essence, stress does not delay AF, it delays O. So if your other LPs have been 12 days, you should test on 12 or 13DPO. I hope I didn't confuse you too much! ;)

Well, CD 8 and getting some possible EWCM today. I still can't decipher EWCM from semen, so who the heck knows...especially after yesterdays romp ;) It's looking like my temps are a little bit more predictable (CL ~97.6) after last cycle being all over the map. As of CD1 I am taking 100 mg B6, 2 Fertility Blend caps and 1 prenatal vitamin per day....starting 2DPO I will be taking all of that plus 100 mg progesterone suppositories each day....fun stuff. ShannonGH - Glad you can sympathsize with the control issue. Just so odd after all these years of TTA and BCP. It will all happen in good time though.
My temp rose this morning earlier than usual (CD 12). I can't think of why - maybe an early O. Last time I was high early was a looong cycle. I sure hope that doesn't happen again, especially since it is our first month TTC. It will be the longest 2WW (though the 1st probably is anyways).

Ara, Welcome! :D Would you like me to put you under cheerleading or Temporarily TTA, or would you like to just lurk? :)
Babylove, The best advice I can give you is check your CM! It really does help! That way, if your temps are screwy, you can still go by CM. Plus, it is excellent practice! Good luck!

06-28-2005, 04:04 AM
Baby Lust ~ I wish it was that easy! I have a really hard time deciphering my CM....it seems like I always have one or two sticky days after AF and then go right to creamy. I can only remember one cycle when I had very easy to identify EWCM....now a'days, I don't know if it's semen or EWCM, even if I examine the former when I know that's what it is (ew)! Oy!
Baby Lust
06-28-2005, 05:55 AM
Morning ladies! I hope everyone finds their way over without any problems! I thought they would have a message on Clever Couples that told everyone where to go... darn!
Babylove, TCOYF says an hour after BDing, you should start doing Kegals to get the excess semen out since, by this time, it is not going to do you any good, and then afterwards, check your CM and it should be true CM. Might be worth a shot for checking after BDing. Me, personally, I check it before any BDing happens, and instead of recording in on my chart, I just make a mental note of how fertile it was. I don't care if it was creamy, sticky, or otherwise, but as soon as I see what may resemble watery or EW, I make a mental note! Might be worth a shot just to look for the fertile stuff. That's all that matters anyway! ;) Good luck!
Well, my temp is still down, so I know I didn't O yesterday, which I am happy about because DH and I only saw each other for 5 minutes before I left for work, so no BDing for me! Tonite though... and he knows it! :p
Have a great day everyone!

Baby Lust - Thanks for chart stalking me! I feel so loved!!
My temp did go up this morning. Only .1 degree but still up. I told myself last night I would test if it went up. So I tested and got a BFN. I'm pretty sure this cycle is going to end up like my cycle 2 months ago - looong LP but no pregnancy. :( I updated my FF site to include that cycle to compare to this cycle - they are soo similar. Anyway, bottom line, I'm sure AF is on her way, she's just taking her sweet time.
My mom sent my a blog of one her friend's daughter who is pregnant. It was really sweet and talked about how she was surprised by the pgncy and seeing the first ultrasound. But if I'm really honest, it just made me jealous that it wasn't me and sad that I'm not the one writing it. :(
I told DH last night I didn't know if I was moody b/c I was pg or moody b/c it was PMS or moody b/c I wasn't pg.

Morning Ladies, nice to see so many of us over here in once place. I stopped by the WC, but it's pretty much a ghost town on the TTC thread. It's too bad, but they seem to have made it that much more non-user friendly, so why bother??
Besides, the newlyweds aren't the ones paying their salaries on that site, it's the brides that are buying all the stuff that advertised, so even if we do Bitch we don't have the buying power behind getting them to change anything... just my 2 cents... :o
CD55 and no o.... my CM is a cross between creamy and watery, so I'm hoping I o... if not, I guess the DR will likely induce AF when I see her next week.... I'm sure it's a stress thing... or that's what I keep telling myself anyways... pehaps hoping that it's not a "real" issue, just that we moved to a new place, new altitude, new climate... and my body is just pissed off about it :D wishful thinking I suppose..... I never had long cycles when I wasn't on BCPs... in fact they were very short with long AFs... so don't know what it's problem is.
Sorry for the book... Hope everyone out there is doing great!

Kat, So sorry about the BFN! :( What DPO are you, I forget... Sending you {{HUGS}} hun!
Shannon, Honestly, I think the Target brand OPKs are the best! They are so easy to read and very easy to use and best of all, cheap! :D Good luck! If you need any advice on them, I am quickly becoming an expert! :o
CT, I hope you are going to O soon! I feel so bad that you have to go through such long cycles! :( {{HUGS}} How's the new house? :D

do you tend to have a CL that is close to the same every month or does that wander all over the board?
Just wondering about my own CL that seems way high for my norm.

Thanks BL, as with pg tests, is it best to use FMU with OPKs? Or does it not matter? Thanks again!
You're supposed to do OPKS midday or afternoon (I think). I never got good results when I did OPK with FMU.
Baby Lust
06-28-2005, 09:07 AM
Shannon, OPKs are the opposite of HPTs. You should test around noon or in the evening. FMU will not give you an accurate result. It is best to test twice a day for the most accurate results, but that is not always the best option since the $ does add up! So pick a time and make sure you limit your fluid intake for 4 hours before you test. Good luck!
Dana, How long is your cycle, typically? If you normally O around CD20, you will probably want to start OPKs around 4 days before, because you should get a + 1-2 days before O. I saw that you have O'd as early as CD18, so I would suggest starting them on CD16 or 17. HTH! :)
Elenitsa, Welcome! Your CL will typically be almost the same every month. It should only vary by .01 or .02 degrees.

I had a seriously OPK+ yesterday and the day before, and my temp did go up this morning, but if this is the beginning of a thermal shift it's a pretty weak one. I'm wondering if my weak thermal shift last month and my possible weak shift this month (or even AO) indicate a lack of progesterone?

ShannonGH~ I used the target brand ones last month and I really liked them. It was the first time I used them and I actually could read them. I took mine each day at noon. Good luck (they are so reasuuring)!
Well my temp did go up :) I am only 10dpo so I think I will wait until Friday to test. My LP is usually 13 days so if the witch isn't here by then I will know to test.

Today is day 3 of Clomid for me. The only thing I have noticed is that I am extremely hot all the time! At first I thought it was just the weather, but when I tempted this morning I was shocked!! 97.6 which is usually a post O temp for me.
Question: does clomid affect CM? I'd like to keep the little that I did have or gain some of course ;)

tunibell Hope that temp jumps up even higher tomorrow.
Soulmate Glad to see you found us over here. Hope you are doing well.
CD45 and no. I had a temp jump today but if you take a look at my chart that may mean completely nothing. It wasnt a very god post O temp. I stopped OPK's because I am sick of negatives and who knows how long this cycle could last. I was going to start Provera tonight but since I had a jump I will wait and make sure it is not some fluke O. Otherwise i will be starting Provera Tomorrow or Thursday.

Hey Heidi! Welcome! Did you close the WC thread or is someone else maintaining it? How's the Clomid treating you? Also, would you mind posting a link to your chart when you have a minute? Thanks!
Gina, My temps have been higher since starting Clomid, so that is normal. Typically Clomid does dry out your CM, so I would strongly suggest trying Pre-Seed! And even though you may not find any CM externally, there should still be enough internally to get the boys on the bus and on their way. ;) Good luck!

I have a question. I'm on CD7 of my first cycle off BCP and TTC, and I'm spotting some today. Is this b/c of going off BCP and my cycle trying to sort itself out? Should I be worried?
flygirl
06-28-2005, 01:54 PM
LittleStar, I would guess it's definitely your body regulating itself. The first cycle off BCP raretly goes according to plan. Your body was expecting more hormones once AF was gone, and when it didn't get them it started shedding whatever was left over.

Your temps don't really show it, but I can how the temps since have averaged higher. Every other sign is there, though: cervix position, fertile CM, a pre-O dip. You're also showing some pretty good BDing ;). And it doesn't look like you too any OPK's then to show otherwise. I'm getting excited looking at your chart!! Go test!

Well thanks for encouraging my obsessing flygirl. I was so convinced I hadn't even O'ed yet. What a shock that would be. I am at work but I will test in the morning. If my temp is way down though I probably won't(yah right I say that now). I do have some dollar tree tests at home. I could right after work but it will probably be to diluted to work anyways. Ok, now I am way ...I don't even know what the word is... Scared, nervousm excited, afraid to get my hopes up. Although I did just get a job this week that shouldn't have even happened. Stranger things have happened.

Ok...funny thing that happened last night. I was reading some stuff for my class when DH yells from the bedroom for me to go in there. It was about 9:30pm and he had gone into work at 5:00 yesterday morning so he was lying on the bed half asleep. I asked him what he needed and he said,"Have we gotten to those, like, 5 days in a row when we have to [BD]?" I told him no, that it was actually going to be starting on the 8th when I have my O window. His response--"Oh, good, 'cause I am seriously exhausted and I was afraid you were going to jump me tonight."
How sad is that? I am going to turn into crazy obsessed, "we have to do it NOW", I just know it. Poor thing, he already sees it coming.

I found this very cute! Poor DH, all that sex!! :D
I am glad this thread wasmoved aesaily -- I had a moment of confusion and then frustration thinking I was going to have to move posts, which I don't know how to do...fortunately it all happened without me!
marteneym -- I hear ya. My last cycle was 81 days and I went through, I don't know...9? 10? boxes of OPKs.... I actually did finally get a + on an afternoon sample, but I shudder to think how much I spent before that happened. I can't afford to do that every month.
I am going to see a Dr tomorrow to see if I can get some tests run and find out why my cycles are so long...I only stopped BCPs in January, but mine have always been long, and this last one was just ridiculous. For those of you with known issues -- how were they discovered? Tests? Exams, Charts? I am trying to learn what to expect.
Along the lines of the dry CM, Preseed conversation...have any of you gobe the actual egg white route?

Marteney Not to discourage you.. however your chart looked similar to some Crosshairs that FF gave me earlier this month. I would first try switching your charting type (FAM, Advanced, Research) - I tried them all and sometimes Advanced would give me CH and other times Research would... Well ladies the temp made a drop this morning. I know the saying is it aint over till its over, but I am guessing I am moving on to the next cycle soon. Hubby and I had a long talk about how we learned from the OPK's this month so hopefully next month will be ours (which would be the perfect month, but I know nothing happens the way you want it). We made a BDing game plan as well :p Just trying to think positive. Heck if my cousin can get pregnant (and she never had a period due to health issues) without anything (she just found out she was already 4 months pregnant when they went to do a sonogram to find out why she wasn't getting pregnant) I know I can too. I think I can! I think I can!

Hi Ladies- I'm charting TTA right now, but started taking pre-natal vits at the start of last month's LP. I'm having a bit of a weird chart- over a week of EWCM and ovulation was several days late. Congratulations Christy!!! Have a Happy & Healthy 9 months :D :D :D
Okay, so, I broke down and tested this morning. Yeah, yeah, I know, 9dpo is too early, I must be a glutton for punishment. I use 20miu tests that I order from the internet (I wouldn't waste a $7 drug store test on 9dpo)
I took it, it was negative, I cried a little and moved on. 30 minutes later I go back to look at it and I swear I see a line. And EXTREMELY faint, I can only see it if I squint and hold it at a certain angle under bright light, line.
Now I know, a line is a line, I have said it several times to other people. But this was so faint that I think I may have been hallucinating. Not to mention the fact that it took 30 minutes to appear. So, I'll test again Friday (maybe tomorrow if I can't wait) to see if I am still hallucinating or not.
Welcome MCD- Glad you found us!

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, but can you buy pre-natals OTC?
My OB/GYN suggested taking pre-natals since we are TTC but said any regular multivitamin would do just as well. I went to the drugstore and didn't see them in the vitamin section and am wondering if its prescription only?
Yup, I buy mine at Target... they were in the vitamin section, but they were around the "women's health" vitamins and supplements. I started mine before we started TTC, simply because I ran out of my regular vitamin and I figured I might as well buy pre-natals. Plus they come in giant 200-pills bottles, and aren't too expensive. :)
