I thought I would be the first to post since I've been MIA again. I have been reading but I have so much to catch up on. I've been extremely exhausted lately. I survived the week my DH was gone and ever since then I've just been drained. I think I slept a total of 5 or 6 hours off an on today. :eek:
Sorry Kimberly and Kerrie that you failed the GTT. Like the other girls have mentioned you still have a good chance to pass the 3 hour. If not it's not the worse thing in the world. I had it with my 2nd pgcy so I know what you have to go through. As long as you can control it with diet I'm sure everything will be OK. If you do have any questions I'll do my best to answer them since I have been through this before. Hopefully you won't need to worry about it.
Great belly pics Jasonsgal, Betsy and Amie!
Yoga Sounds like you have a big boy in there! I'm glad working from home is working for you. Sounds like you have a great job that will work with you. You may be our first momma!
jules that's great news about your test results! She needs to cook for a little bit longer! :D
Jackie I never realized that sleeping medication could do that to a person, how scary! Glad to hear he is all right, that must have been a long night for both of you.
terryswifey I have to add with all the other girls that that hospital sounds awful. At least you have an easy decsion to make, that's too bad you can't get your tubes tied at the same time. I plan on having that done if I were to have a c-section (doubtful) but if I don't my DH is going to have a vasectomy. He is also terrified of this, actually he was suppose to have it down after DD was born but kept puting it off and here we are again! :D But this will be our last child so I told him that we will be making an appt when we leave the hospital if I don't have a c-section. Hopefully your DH will come around.
jjohm love your nursery, it's so adorable!
KRL626 Yay on all the baby clothes, how fun!
MrsTazlvr I wanted to ask how your GTT went. I hope you didn't get hit by Wilma too bad. Let us know how your doing when you get a chance!
I know I missed some of you, I'm sorry!
Bassinets we are definately using a bassinet the first 3 months. I used one with my last two and it worked very well. It's nice having them right next to your bed so you don't have to get completely out of bed and run into walls. ;)
Birth Control I am considering a tubal ligation only if I have a C-section. If not, then my DH will be having a vasectomy since this is #4 for us and we know we are done having children.
Pro Pics we are not doing pro pics, I never did with any of them. Maybe if I had a nice cute round belly like a lot of you, but since I'm on the chubby side I decided not to. I haven't even taken any belly pics with this pg. I'll probably take some towards the end or at the hospital just so I have something to show him when he's older.
Aches and Pains I'm definately getting a lot more uncomfortable now. At work I sit at a desk all day so once I get up after sitting for a couple of hours my hips and lower back is really sore. Sometimes I'm even sore in my hoo ha area. It feels like he is pressing right down there even though I know he's not that low yet. I'm also having a lot of ligament pain lately. It feels like I pulled a muscle and it hurts to even move an inch. I have to rub it for a bit before it goes away. I'm also getting a lot of painful punches and kicks. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has yelled out loud with some of them, I thought maybe I was being a wimp. I seriosly thought he was going to kick through my stomach one night! :eek:
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend and remember we get an extra hour of sleep tonight! Well those of us without kids anyway. ;)

Nikkid ~ Thanks. I'm just a little freaked out, on top of other stresses we've had lately, I TOTALLY lost it and had a good cry Friday.
Yesterday I visited with my best friend N., who had G.D. in her first pregnancy, and in her second very recent pregnancy, she failed the first GTT but passed the second. When she did have G.D., she had to be on insulin and had a horrible, HORRIBLE pregnancy/delivery. Yet her second pg'cy was a breeze by comparison. It's just that whenever I hear 'gestational diabetes', I freak out and my mind thinks back to what N. went through! Anyway I'm trying to be optimistic.
The doctor's office sent me this sample menu in the mail--3 days before my 3 hour test, I have to go on this high-carb/high-sugar diet. I honestly don't get the point--won't that raise my levels and make it look bad, basically setting me up to fail the test??? :confused: I hope not. It sounds like the point is to see if my body will process all that sugar/carbs efficiently. But I'm convinced that eating all that crap will just make my levels high and I'll end up failing the 3 hour test. I just don't have any faith that I'll pass this next one.
Talking with N. DID make me feel better though--and I got to see her new 1 month old baby boy! :D He was such a cutie, he slept on my shoulder most of the time I was visiting. I can't wait until I can snuggle like that with our little boy!
In other news, went crib shopping, AGAIN, at Baby Depot. They had Bassett furniture, which is actually what we have for a bedroom set and I am very pleased with the quality. My mom, Ms. Picky, is telling me I 'have' to buy Simmons as it's better made. Um, it's OUR money we're spending, thanks!
I know she means well, but she is a LITTLE too bossy sometimes!
Anyway, I found this OTHER crib set I like, at Baby Depot.
this is the Nantucket 2-in-1 crib by Bassett:

dresser/changing table:

and chest:
http://www.bassettbaby.com/images/catalog/product/large/5469255SNantucketM1.jpg
It'd be over $1000 for everything :eek: , but that's what we're looking at budget-wise anyway. I love this color--not too light, and not overly dark.
The only bad thing is, I don't think the Baby Depot offers delivery. Must check into that. If not, it'd be a PITA getting the stuff back to our house!
Awesome, awesome, AWESOME job on the new thread!!! Woohoo, we are in the home stretch!!! I looooe being in the THIRD trimester.
:D :D :D
We are so blessed, you guys.
I am so anxious to meet this little miracle!!!
QOTD: Have you chosen Godparents? Will they be guardian ones or more of a aunt/uncle/spiritual guidance?
Also, are we doing thread buddied to help announce babies? I think it would be cool!

Thank you so much for setting up the 3rd trimester thread! This looks awesome. It makes me so excited to see how far we have come! Thank you threadmistresses for all your hard work: NikkiD, Jules1025, and MrsTazlvr
Chefker I am so sorry about your test. I would ask the nurses at your drs. office your questions about the type of food they want you to eat before the 3 hour test.
I love your furniture that you have picked out! so pretty :)
Nikkid So glad your DH is back! That must be such a relief. Sorry to hear how uncomfortable you are.
AOTD Godparents: We have decided on who we would like to be godparents -- who would raise our child if something happened to us. We haven't asked yet. We aren't sure how to bring up the subject with them. I think it will be a big surprise to them.
QOTD Any suggestions on how to ask someone to be a godparent? We don't want them to feel obligated (they are already godparents to other children).
Amie I think it would be a great idea to have a labor buddy! I'm all for it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jason and I got an early start this morning with the time change and just got so much done to the nursery! I am SOO excited.
* The nursery has two closets and he just hung up a second shelf in one of the closets
* Hung up pictures on the wall
* Attached the support to the bookshelf (so it won't come flying down)
* Unpacked our old childrens books
* Put stuff away and unpacked 3 boxes
I am so glad I got all that done BEFORE the shower so it won't be too overwhelming trying to figure out what to do with everything. We haven't really spent any money on the baby/nursery (besides furniture)-- we want to see what we get for the shower so we won't have doubles, too much stuff, etc..
Anyways, it looks SOO awesome! I am so excited to meet my little baby boy. :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aches/Pains.. OMG - I thought I was going to die the other night.
My cousin and his 3 yr. old son were visiting from Paris for two nights. I didn't realize that I overdid it with their visit but on Friday night I could barely walk. It was terrible. The round ligament pain was unbearable. They left yesterday morning so Jason and I literally did NOTHING all day yesterday. We hung out in our PJ's watching movies (something we never get to do) and taking naps throughout the day. Well after sitting on my butt all day the round ligament pain was still there. I was so upset. Thankfully I woke up this morning and it's much better. I was really worried though because the pain is much more significant on my right side and that is where my cyst is. I was starting to wonder is it the cyst or round ligament pain?
I have a drs. appt. on thursday so I have to remember to mention it -- even though it's probably nothing.
~~~~~
It was so nice to have my cousins son here! He doesn't speak any English but we were somehow able to communicate. Our dog Lily fell in love with him!
Nothing much else going on here. Someone who can't attend our shower purchased our stroller and it was delivered last week! Yippee!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!
Woohoo! Third trimester!! :D I can't believe we're getting SO close to the end! Thank you so much for getting this thread set up!
Nikki - Sorry to hear you are feeling so tired and uncomfortable. Not too much longer to go, though!
chefker - Love the furniture you picked out!
jasonsgal - Please post pics of your nursery when you get a chance! Sounds like you are almost done! Way to go! I feel so behind. All we have done is paint the room and put the furniture in there.
Labor buddies... I think this is a good idea! Anyone know how to get this set up?
QOTD - godparents... We are not designating godparents, so I have no info to add here. Sorry!
Virtual Baby Shower
Yoganut suggested having one of these in our group in the last thread. I thought I'd bring up the idea once more and see who was interested. I can take the lead on managing this effort (although I've never done one before, so I may need your help yoganut!).
For those who wish to participate, you can send me your full name, mailing address, and where you are registered (either via PM or email). I will then randomly assign someone to each mommy (this is the person you will buy a gift for). You can then choose to purchase something off that person's registry or buy them something else and ship it to their mailing address. I was thinking a max of $20 for the gift. What does everyone else think?? (Yoganut did I get this right??)
So, let me know if you want to participate! Either post in the thread in orange or PM me. :) My email address is juleswed1025@hotmail.com.
-----------------------------------
Now, for my personal update. We went to a halloween party last night, so I thought I'd show off my costume. I ended up NOT going as a fertility goddess. My costume morphed from Britney Spears to "Mother of the Year" to Miss Alabama - the unwed, pregnant beauty queen. I apologize if I offend anyone from Alabama!!!! :o It was DH's idea, really.
The cigarette and tattoo are fake, and the beer is DH's!
(edited to remove pic)
DH got completely wasted at this party. :rolleyes: He saw it as his last chance to have a really good time before the baby came. Of course, he's now sleeping off a hangover on our couch, when I wanted him to be raking the front yard!
Hope everyone has a great halloween tomorrow! I have school all day and night, so I won't be able to help DH hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters. :(
One thing I forgot to add in my huge post... stretch marks!!! I found my first stretch marks last night.... on my arse!!!! :( (If they had a crying smiley, I would insert it here.) I can't believe I have them there! I mean, I know my butt has gotten a little bigger, but geez! Enough to warrant stretch marks?! I don't even have any on my belly yet!
NikkiD, Jules1025, and MrsTaz Thanks for setting up the thread! It's awesome!
catandmouse Wow you are tiny! I bet people tell you that a lot. You must have a really long torso and baby is just spread out up and down. Anyway, it looks fabulous!
Jules I like the baby shower idea. I will send you an email shortly!
Labor buddiesI think this is a great idea. I think the way it's done is that the people due earlier in the month are buddied up with the people due later in the month. We exchange info with our buddy and then when baby arrives we contact that person and they post the news on our forum. I'd be happy to figure out who goes with who if you guys want. Just let me know.
Yeah for a new thread! Thank you to our wonderful threadmistresses for starting this! Wow...seeing the posts saved for our babies reminds me of how close we are. Amazing!
I finally have a new belly shot. Here I am at 30w5d. I feel like I am HUGE :eek:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5ce10b3127cce954c390067f400000015108KZNmjdw0g
catandmouse - Cute belly!
Betsy- I didn't get to comment in the last thread, but wanted to add that you still look fabulous!
Best wishes to those of you that have to take the 3 hour GTT. Like others have said, I have known of lots of people who failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. I really hope that is the case for you.
Nikkid - I hear you on the exhaustion. I am SO wiped out these days. I think I spent more time in bed being lazy yesterday than I did up. I am definitely getting to the point where I look forward to this being over.
Jules - Great costume! Congrats on getting so much done on your nursery too! What you laid out for the baby shower sounds perfect. The only thing to add is that if possible, everyone participating opens their gift of the same day. Then, we will have a 'shower date' and post online :p Also, I just wanted to verify that you mean the gift around $20 not including s/h?
KRL - You got it with the labor buddies. If some don't feel comfortable sharing personal info or calling/contacting someone personally, they could always PM the address associated with our thread? I have no problem calling (or maybe using my blackberry from the hospital if I am allowed), especially since I will be in there for 4+ days for a c/s.
Pergnancy Photos - You know what, I think I am going to pass on these this pregnancy. The more I thought about it, I am happy just having my pictures from the first pregnancy. I feel like I have gotten so huge in the past couple weeks, that I am past the cute pregnancy stage. Instead, we will do a newborn sitting with our new family.
We carved a pumpkin last night with R. So much fun, because he was really into it this year. We also had one of those tiny pumpkins and we had R color it with markers for the baby. I think we are going to take him trick-or-treating to a couple neighbors tonight. He is dressing up as a builder, DH is wearing his hard hat from work (he does environmental consulting) and then I made a T-shirt that says 'Construction Zone' across the belly. Kind of silly, but I think it will be fun.
Jules - OMG! I *love* your costume!!! So funny!!
Cat&Mouse and Yoga, great pics!!! Yall look fabulous!!!
I'm 28 weeks today - woohoo!!!
If this is OK with everyone, Betsy and I would like to be labor buddies...we talk all the time so that would work out really well for us! I can't wait to announce little Scott's arrival!!!! Woohoo!!!
Hey Ladies,
Thak you all so much for your support regarding my GD, as you all know I failed the 1 hour with results of 252 my doctor said it was too high so there was no need for the 3 hour test. Therefore they have Diagnosed me with Gestational Diabetes (GD) I went for my GD class on Firday at the atcual hospital we will be having our baby.
I love it!!! I love the people, my class was actually on the maternity ward so I got to see alot of it, but DH and I are going for our tour on Saturday.
I learned alot about diet etc... pretty interesting. I will be testing my blood 4x a day after I eat. I had it tested at the class and it was 113 (normal is 65-139) so thank God it was low then.
I've comes to terms with it, I mean it is what it is at least I know what I was doing wrong as far as diet (Boy! was I eating the wrong stuff) and I am now on a eating plan (basically low carb) and it's something I can carry on after the baby is born.
UPDATE:
Had my appointment today, lost 2 lbs :eek: BP was 118/78 baby heartbeat strong as ever. So baby and and I are doing great!!!
My next appointment is Nov 16th
Wow, the new thread is moving fast! Thanks for setting it up.
I had my GTT this morning. The drink wasn't that bad (though I certainly wouldn't call it good), but about 5 minutes after I finished, I felt really sick. I guess I'm not so good at having sugary things in the morning.
terrys wifey, I'm glad you're feeling better about the GD. I guess it can never hurt to do some learning about diets. I hope sticking to this low carb thing works for you.
catandmouse and yoga, cute bellies!
jules1025, great costume! My only stretch marks (so far) are on my backside, too. They're up a little higher, like on the back of my hips, but still...they suck. DH was kind enough to find them and point them out for me.
chefker, nice furniture. I love the color of the wood.
Update on us~ We had to leave our house after Hurricane Wilma hit last week. We had no power and no phone. I just didn't feel safe being home with an almost 2 year old and being 7 1/2 months pregnant. We finally got our phone and power back, so we are now back at home. Luckily we didn't have that much damage to our house so I consider us very lucky. The damage and destruction all around is nothing like I have ever seen. It looked like a warzone right after the storm. I am just happy to be safe. During the storm we hid in a closet with DD because the walls and beds were shaking. It was like nothing I have ever experineced before.
Update on Daniella and me~ I got the call I have been dreading today. I failed the GTT. They said I could take the 3 hour test or just go right on the GD diet and start testing my sugars daily. Since I had GD with DD #1 I opted to not torture myself with the 3 hour test and just start monitoring myself. I go to the OB tomorrow to discuss it all. I really wanted to deliver on Dec. 30th because my deductable starts over on Jan. 1 and also for the tax breaks. Now it looks like I might not deliver until Jan. 5th because of the GD. Another OB in the practice said she would do the C-section at 38 weeks (Dec. 30th), but mine wanted to wait until 39 weeks because of the GD. I am going to bring this up to him tomorrow and see what he says. He delivered DD #1 so I really want to stick with him, but he sometimes follows the book a little too much. ;)
Thanks for starting this new thread. Sorry I wasn't around to help. :)
DD is napping so I won't do shoutouts and such now. I think I need a nap, too. ;)
MrsTazLvr~ Glad you are all safe! Sorry you had damage though. :(
Well girls, I'm getting a little frustrated over this glucose test. I do have an appt. tomorrow with the OB, but I wanted to find out my number on the test, since I had been told I had 'slightly elevated levels'. And, I have read that anything over 140 was considered 'elevated', so I just wanted to know where I was really.
So, today I called the doctor's office to ask the number. I was told it was 179. I then asked 'is this considered high', and the nurse said she 'didn't know' since the lab didn't indicate a range. Does this make any sense to anyone??? :confused:
Wouldn't the doctor's office have a CHART or something indicating a normal blood sugar range? Certainly my dad (who is borderline diabetic), when he gets his sugar tested--whether at the doctor's, or he checks it himself--there is a specific 'range' of what is considered normal.
Anyway, the nurse said as I have an appt. tomorrow, to just tell the doctor my concerns. Um, yeah, I think I will! Was going to anyway of course, now I am just more confused since calling today. ugh!
DH and I loved your costume, you looked soo awesome! How funny! As soon as I read your post I checked my bottom for stretch marks!!!! I can't believe my ass has gotten so big! Thankfully it just looks larger in the mirror and not in jeans :p Now I have a new place to look for stretchmarks though!!!!
I sent you an email with my information for the virtual baby shower! Please let me know if I can help out OR if you don't receive my email.
Once I have the nursery finished I will definitely post photos!
catandmouse cute belly!
yoganut Love your halloween idea!!! You look so wonderful, I love the belly shot - your belly is all baby :D
terrys wifey I'm so happy that you are enjoying your class and learning a lot. Have fun during the tour on Saturday!!!!
MrsTazlvr OMG, how SCARY! I am so glad to hear that you left, I would of too! Thankfully you don't have much damage and you have power and phone restored. I'm sorry to hear you failed your GTT. :(
--------------------------------
HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO THE JANUARY MOMMIES!!!!!! This time next year we will have our little pumpkins with us to celebrate :D
The round ligament pain has gotten much better as long as I don't WALK too much! Does this sound normal to anyone else? I really have to take it soo easy. I am very curious as to what the dr. says. I know it can't be good for me to take it too easy can it? It's unbearable pain if I walk or bend over too much. :(
A really cool thing has been happening the last three days and it even woke me up in the middle of the night last night...The baby is getting the hiccups! I can tell that he is still in breech position because the hiccups are coming from the far right side which is where his head has been during the last two sonograms. move baby baby move! He must really like it in that position.
(diagram of the position he is in):
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
Good news - I passed my GTT!! :D :D Woohoo!
catandmouse - Cute belly pic! You are so tiny! :)
KRL626 - Thank you for offering to manage the labor buddies! Let me know if I can help in any way. I didn't get your email re: the virtual baby shower, btw. It may be easier to send me a PM.
yoganut - Adorable belly pic! You have got one big baby, mama! I did mean $20 total for the gift (not including s&h). I'll make that clear before making assignments and I'll announce a day to open all the presents - although that may be a bit difficult if someone ships a gift late or shipping takes a long time. I guess we can try!
terrys wifey - I'm glad you like your GD class! Sounds very informative. I'm hoping you'll be able to control it with diet and not have to take insulin shots!
elladee - I hope you pass your GTT!
MrsTazlvr - OMG! How scary! I'm so glad you and your family are ok, and you have minimal damage to your house. I'm so sorry to hear you failed the GTT. :( I know you were really hoping otherwise. I really hope you'll be able to control it with diet alone, and that your dr. lets you deliver on Dec 30th!
chefker - Sorry for all of the confusion. I hope you are able to get some answers from your doctor tomorrow!
jasonsgal - I'm not sure what's worse... stretch marks on your belly or behind. :o I guess any kind of stretch marks suck. At least I'll be able to hide these during swimsuit season! Oh - I haven't gotten your email yet. Try to PM me if it's easier for you. Sorry the round ligament pain is so bothersome. I haven't had that too much, but my sciatic nerve will start to hurt if I've been moving around a lot.
chefker-- I hope you can get better answers when you talk to your doctor.
MrsTazlvr-- I'm glad to hear you are safe and sound. Sorry about the GD.
yoganut & catandmouse-- Great belly shots.
I finally got a glider ordered this weekend. Getting a glider ordered was such a pain! We looked at a couple of places and neither one had very good help. We finally decided to order one from BRU and the woman who was helping us was so incompetent. It took an hour to get a glider ordered! The glider is supposed to arrive in 10-12 weeks, so the baby may get here first.
I had my baby shower on Sat. It was a great party even though most of the women invited didn't show up. My mil really surprised us and got the expensive crib bedding that I have been mooning over for months. Mostly we got a variety of clothes in different sizes and nice children's books. We didn't really get many of the basics. I guess I should really start shopping myself. Thank goodness a great friend of mine had a baby two years ago and is giving us everything she has. That takes care of a lot of items. I'm also mostly done with my thank you cards. Go me!
I'm definitely interested in a labor buddy so add me to the list.
I can't keep up with the shout outs girls!! Sorry!!
Thanks for the belly compliments though. I'm really uncomfortable already & I know I still have a lot of growing to do.
Hang in there GD girls!! Chefker although each lab generally has a slightly different normal range for lab work, it generally doesn't vary that much so it seems weird that the nurse wouldn't know if that was high. Good luck!
MrsTazlvr Sorry to hear about the GD and so glad to hear your OK. One thing I don't understand is why you would have to deliver later if you have GD? I know when I had it before that was one of the reasons I was induced earlier, because they thought the baby was big. (He ended up being my smallest so far :rolleyes: ) I guess I don't understand the reasons why your Dr would want to wait for 39 weeks now that you have GD.
I'll be back later with S/O's, need to get ready for work.
I'd like to be a part of the labor buddies too!
MrsTazlvr
Nikki~GD babies' lungs develop slower than regular babies. They wait until 39 weeks to make sure the lungs are developed. They don't usually go over 39 weeks though because the babies end up being large. Allie was 9 pounds when I had her. Since my OB's partner said that delivering at 38 weeks 2 days would be OK, I am going to see what my OB says. I might need to beg a little. ;)
Aaahhhhh........interesting that I had it almost twice and never knew that. :rolleyes: Well good luck and hopefully you can deliver on the 30th! Cori - So sorry to hear about your GD results! I am glad you are getting good care - and I hope they will let you move up your date a little. That would be horrible to have to pay your deductible again!
Jackie&Tom - Not to disappiont, but just wanted to prepare you for the fact that measuring big doesn't necessarily mean the baby will come early...unless of course you get a scheduled c/s. I only bring it up because DS#1 measured over 3 weeks ahead via fundal height and u/s so I got really psyched that he would come early. 37 weeks came and went, and nothing happened. Time kept ticking, and it felt like it was going SO slow because I had thought he would have arrived by then. I ended up going until just days before my EDD, when they decided to do the c/s. I guess the issue as well is that despite the fact that some babies are big (or measuring ahead) it doesn't necessarily mean that their lungs are mature yet (and I think something about lung maturity triggers labor). I have just been thinking about this a lot myself, with the preterm labor and 'big baby' issues I am experiencing.
We didn't end up taking R trick-or-treating (our neighbors all had their lights off) but we did take a couple pictures. Here we are outside our door. He didn't feel like wearing his hard hat:
Yoga, adorable halloween pictures!
sophonisba9, glad you had a good time at your shower. That was sweet of your MIL to get you the bedding.
jules, congrats on passing the GTT! I'll PM you as soon as I look back to see what you wanted us to tell you.
jasonsgal, I get really bad pain when I overexert myself, too. Sunday, DH and I washed and waxed my car and then I went for a 3 mile walk with my neighbor. I sure paid for that that evening. I hope your Dr gives you some good advice about it.
chefker, hope you find out some useful infor at your appointment today.
MrsTazlvr, glad you survived the hurricane ok. Sounds really scary. Sorry about the GD.
BRU Registry
Is anyone else finding that it's taking forever to their BRU registry to update? Nothing updated all weekend (yes, I'm a horrible registry peeker), then finally yesterday about noon, a couple things showed up as being bought. One of them was my pack-n-play. Now today, it's showing that 2 pack-n-plays have been purchased. I'm guessing it's because two people went shopping this weekend and the stupid thing didn't update fast enough. I know it's not the end of the world, I can return one and get something else, but still, it's kind of annoying. I really hope that the two people who got them are going to be at separate showers.
sophonisba9 - Glad your shower went well! That's awesome about getting the nice crib!
yoganut - Those halloween pics are too cute! Love your costumes! :) Sorry R didn't get to ToT. We didn't have much action in our neighborhood either.
elladee - I think I may be having the same issue with BRU - at least I hope that's what's going on! Our shower is this saturday and a total of 3 items have been purchased off our BRU registry. :( So, I'm really hoping it's b/c BRU isn't updating my registry online, and not b/c no one's coming to our shower!
Hey Ladies,
I had my first set of pricking the finger today, this morning as soon as I got up it was suppose to be between 60-90 mine was 107.
Then 2 hours after breakfast it was suppose to be between 60-120 mine was 122. I called the nutrtionist since I'm suppose to if my numbers are over, she didn't seem concerned since it wasn't that much over. I really need to monitor my morning check. So I am praying this diet works,although I am throwing in my own twist. Little less carbs and more protein.
Chefker...... not sure if it's different across the board but according to the info I got from my doctor and nutritionist the average range is 60-120. Hope you get it cleared up today. Good Luck:)
I am all for the virtual shower and labor buddy... let me know what we need to do
Wow, this thread is really moving lately!! Sorry to those who didn't pass their GTT, congrats to those that did. While GD sucks, at least we have the tools to have healthy babies, right?
We are really in the final stretch huh? 3rd tri... I think just about everyone is on the 2 wk checkup schedule now? I had mine yesterday, everything's fine. These appts. are getting a little anti-climatic. Had a little scare though... the doc misjudged where he thought the baby was laying based on pushing my belly, so he looked for the hb in the totally wrong place... it took nearly a minute to find it. Scared me to death:rolleyes: . My next appt. is November 14th.
Thanks to everyone for starting the new thread, doing the buddy list, and setting up the virtual shower. Jules, I'll be PMing you shortly.
KRLPlease also add me to the buddy list. I'm due Jan 1, but there's a good chance I'll be induced before then. Just FYI.
Sorry no s/o! There's so much to comment on, and I actually have work to do today ;)
To clarify, the price limit for the gift is $20. This does not include shipping & handling for the gift - just the gift amount.
After everyone has signed up, I will randomly assign a mommy-to-buy-for to each person. I will send everyone a PM with their assigned mommy and her information, as well as a date to purchase the gift and have it shipped by. Okay here it goes with the labor buddy list. I just included everyone on it even if you didn't let me know you wanted to do it. The only person I left off was MrsPuls because I can't remember reading a post from her in really long time. Let me know MrsPuls if you want a buddy and someone can triple up. If you PM someone your info and they never get back to you I guess just let me know and we'll try and reassign you to someone else. Everyone should have approx. 2 weeks (give or take a day or two) between their EDD and their buddy's. I hope this works okay for everyone!
Well sorry to say that I did not get one bit of work done today BUT - I did catch up on all that I have missed here :D !!!
Yoga - Youch on your trips to L & D - Glad to hear that the modified work schedule is doing its job and that you are feeling better.
GTT - I have to take mine sometime this week - really not looking fwd to it as I failed with the one I took with T and had to do the 3 hr. Hoping to pass this one first time... (all that holloween candy probably is not helping)
Jules - I will PM you about the shower I would love to play :)
Elladee- nice belly - hope you have a good time in class - we really liked em and did get some good info from them.
MrsTaz - glad that you guys are safe and sound and back at home. It must have been very scary to go through that with a baby and one on the way.
Terryswifey - Glad that you are checking your blood and taking good care of yourself. I am crossing my fingers that the diet changes take good care of the sugar levels!
******
I had an appt on Friday of last week and all seems to be fine - I was up 7lbs in 4 weeks but my OB didnt really seem to be concerned. Said Baby Boy is looking good and measuring about a week ahead which with me doesnt really mean anything. I was 10 days late with T and still had to be induced. I sure hope that "Brother" comes on time! Took blood for a cooms test and then got another Rhogam shot - lovely!!
I have been very emotional still (cried all the way to work again today - about nothing really) - feel like I am behind at everything... Still need to unpack - DD has been having a hell of a time sleeping and she has always slept really really well.
Took T T-O-Ting last night and she was just a doll - by house #4 she was saying "treat treat", Thank you and bye bye! Her favorite was passing out candy to all the kids that came to our house.
Really starting to feel HUGE!!
Ok enough about me - hope that I start getting updates again - darn CC and that I will be able to keep up more often :) --- Have a great day everyone!
Quick post--Amazing Race is about to start, ahhh! ;)
Doctor's visit today went fine. Just a quick checkup on the little guy, who apparently has shifted position (he is now head down instead of sticking his feet into my COLON, like he was last week!). So maybe there's hope my placenta has jiggled away from my cervix. We will find that out tomorrow at the ultrasound! :D
As for the glucose test, the doctor explained things a little better for me. Apparently the carb/sugar loading is to ensure you don't try to 'fake out' the test by starving yourself or going all Atkins-crazy with no carbs prior to the test (which I guess a lot of people do to try and make their levels come out low...doesn't work out that way always!).
The doctor said when you DO skip meals, your body goes into 'starvation mode' which actually DOES make your sugar go up. Since I (stupidly) ate nothing the day of the test, I probably screwed myself over. He said that eating sugary oatmeal and toast the night before probably didn't have much bearing on the test. The sugar in my urine sample today was at a normal level. I did ask also, can stress make your blood sugar level shoot up. Doctor said it CAN, in the short term, and it would have to be a HUGE amount of stress. I think recent events, such as the flood, lead us to qualify for 'huge' amounts of stress. :) At any rate, the doctor didn't seem overly alarmed at my number on the test. I think I'm more upset about the 179 than he is!
So, maybe it was just a bunch of unfortunate circumstances that led to my high test reading. I'm glad the doctor explained things to me...it makes a little more sense now. And, I'm feeling a little bit better about things. I confirmed with the lab to take my 3 hour test next Tuesday. The tech did say that I have to drink some lemon-lime flavor beverage that is 'thicker', like a syrup almost. GROSS. I hope I don't barf it up!
Yoga~I love the costumes. ;)
Update~I saw my regular OB today and he said that I have to take the 3 hour because the perinatologist will insist on it before I can go see her. Since they are going to classify me as having GD, I will have to see her. The only good thing about seeing her is that I get an U/S everytime I go there. :D I used her last time and I really liked her.
I am not looking forward to the 3 hour test though. My veins are deep and they ALWAYS have a hard time getting a vein. It will probably take them several extra tries to get blood from me 4 times in 3 hours. :( Oh well.
On the upside. my OB said that if I can control my sugars with diet, he will probably decide to go along with my desired c-section date of Dec. 30th. He said he is going on vacation from Dec. 1-20th so we will make a decision before he leaves and it will be pending that my sugars are under control. He said he will see what kind of mood he is in at the end of December to make his final decison so I told him I will buy him a really nice holiday present. ;)
Too sleepy for S/O now. DD decided to wake up EXTRA early this morning and I am exhausted. :rolleyes:
My childbirth class last night was interesting. There were probably about 25 couples in the class. We all had to go around and introduce ourselves. There were more unmarried couples in the class than married couples. That surprised me. At one point the instructor went through some of the things we need to get done before the babies get here. Things like get and install a car seat, pick out a pediatrition, etc. I had a moment of panic there because I haven't done any of it. Luckily we are one of the later due dates in the class, so I don't feel too bad. One girl is due in 3 weeks, so she probably won't even get to finish the classes.
YEAH - I recieved an update notice!!!
jjohm - Congrats on passing your gtt -
Amie - how did yours go today - I had to take my car in so I am going to push mine off till Friday or next week.
Chefker - Were you so sad that the family lost last night! They were my favorite and can I tell ya the "baked ziti" (thats what we call em) family that won drives me absolutely nuts! They are so obnoxious with all the screaming and fighting! ~ Glad that your Doc filled you and now we all understand the GTT a little better.
MrsTazlvr - Hope you 3 hour goes well - Take a banana or something with you to eat right after. This made me feel better.
elladee - glad that your class went well. My favorite part was seeing when everyone was due and what they were having. Like here most were boys like 18 boys and 4 girls. Dont worry about the carseat and ped - there is plenty of time for that still.
Betsy - I told ya over there but they are just as beautiful here!!
Hope you all have a great day!
Ladies you are all making nervous about my GTT test on Monday. Anyway, I've got a bunch of questions for the doctor. Feels like we are really getting close.
My BRU registry is all messed up. I've manually deleted a couple of things that we've gotten already. I know it's been at least a week since the items were purchased and yet they aren't showing up as purchased on the registry. One item was even shipped to me directly from amazon, so I don't know how they could have screwed up taking it off.
MrsTavLvr ~ good luck with the 3 hour test. I am having mine next week....not looking fwd. to it, but is a necessary evil! Hopefully we can both just watch our diets/sugar intake, and avoid insulin.
Betsy ~ love the announcement! [B]Amie[/B, you did a great job. I may have to enlist you as well! :D
jjohm ~ congrats on passing the GTT!
elladee ~ We start our childbirth classes next Tuesday. Wow, I can't believe someone due in 3 weeks is just starting NOW in your CB class! We were instructed to register early so we'd start class around the beginning of the third trimester.
DH is already freaking out about the installing of the car seat. :) I think the fire dept. in town can double check your installation though, to see if you did it properly!
tsmom ~ Ugh! I hate that 'ziti' family too, ROFL. I'm sure they do some clever editing to make the older son look like a COMPLETE a-hole, but I bet they don't have to do much editing really! If my kid EVER talks to me the way that one does...oy. I did feel bad about the Gaghan family losing last night....especially as they are from my state!
**************************
Well, had my THIRD u/s today (pics to come later). Unfortunately, my placenta has not moved much since the last u/s 6 weeks ago. It is about 1 cm. away from the cervix. So, I have to get ANOTHER u/s in 6 weeks from now! Oh boy. On the bright side, the baby is 2 1/2 pounds--right on target. Not too big, and not too small at 28 weeks!
We ordered our crib & changing table today! Went to Baby Depot right after the u/s. The crib pic is posted at the beginning of this thread. We decided to hold off on ordering the dresser just yet--we have a lot of expenses this month, including ordering a new washer and plumbing costs. That flood is costing us a lot of $$$ to recover from, but I know it could have been so much worse...so I won't complain!
AND I finally picked out a stroller. After my initial disappointment on the Graco Metrolite being discontinued, DH and I 'test drove' more strollers at Baby Depot, and then more at Target. We decided on the Graco Passage Classic Pooh System, which they had at Target. It's easy to maneuver & fold up, and the pattern is just SO CUTE! :D It can work for boy or girl I think, so if we have another baby, this will do just fine.
this is what it looks like:
Finally, the search for the 'perfect' stroller is over!
Cori and Chefker - Good luck with the 3 hour tests! I like the stroller you picked out Chefker!
tsmom - Good to see ya!
I had another ob appointment today...that will make one a week for the past 3 weeks. Anyways, I gained 5 lbs in just over a week!! :eek: :eek: I find that so hard to believe. She did an u/s to check on the baby, and he is still measuring 3 weeks ahead and is estimated at 5 1/2 lbs now. Crazy. My fluid had been on the high end of normal, and has unfortunately gotten a little higher. Since I don't have GD, which I guess can contribute to this, she wants me to go to the perintologist to get the baby checked out again. She didn't name any specific problems related to high fluid, aside from the discomfort from additional pressure. That said, she wants to get it checked again.
We also talked about my c/s date some more. I think she is really conservative, but she is saying if I am in a lot of discomfort, she would order an amnio at 38 weeks to make sure the lungs are mature. If they check out, then she would do the c/s then (around 12/20). Otherwise, we wait another week until 12/27. I really don't want to be in the hospital for Christmas if we can at all avoid it. :rolleyes:
Have you ladies started looking into Pediatricians yet??
I have an office I'd like to call that's affiliated with our hospital and are in our network.
I was going to ask if they will be taking newborn patients and see if they offer a meet & greet.
I'm assuming this is what I should do??? I'm clueless with this!!
How is everyone feeling?
This has actually been a rough week for me. Up until Monday, I've felt great the entire pregnancy. Monday I was soo uncomfortable. The entire day my body felt like I had been in a car accident. I've also been in pain sleeping (mostly hip) and not just feeling great. Eh. Anyone else feeling this way??
I'm going to the Bon Jovi concert tomorrow night and I'm worried about being up so long. I'm actually thinking of taking the day off work! We'll see. I need to reserve my vacation days for the end of the year.
Showers and Registry peeking...
Ok, I enjoyed this for the bridal shower - but it's even better for the baby shower!! Things are flying off our registry and I'm really surprised. We have a shower a week from Sunday and on the 27th. I'm really looking forward to both of them.
Well - back to work! Hope everyone is having a good day. We're supposed to reach 70 degrees in Chicago today!! I'm hoping the sunny day will help cheer me up!!
Just got back from the doctor and everything went well.
<huge vent>I don't really like this doctors office (it's very large and it feels like a big cattle call) but what can I do? We moved here when I was 6 months pregnant and now I am 7.5 months -- I have had three visits which gives me enough time to really be able to tell if I like them and i don't.
I like that doctor #1 is an expert with cysts
Doctor #2 was an arrogant jerk who didn't even read my chart before coming in to see me! At the end of the appt. he held onto my arm and invaded *my* space for a bit too long. he made me REALLY uncomfortable. He interrupted my DH and acted like he wasn't even there.
Today we saw the 3rd doctor and she was awesome! however, we had to wait 40 minutes! I went to complain because DH was with me and was breaking from work to be there. One of the 10 receptionists/office clerks (did I say this place is huge?) said that the dr. was on-call and over at the hospital doing rounds! I asked if this was normal to schedule me with an on-call doctor?? She said it was and in the future I should ask -- hello? I never thought that I would need to ask that. Luckily when I met the dr. my anger melted because she was so nice but i am really fed up with these people. I wish that I was going somewhere different. I have heard of a great place in the area but I feel like it's too late now and with my cyst maybe I should just keep going here and after baby is born get the cyst removed at the recommended 6 weeks PP and then look into the other place.
So frustrating! :mad: <end of vent>
baby and me update:
** He is finally out of breech position! We felt his little head and shoulders and there was a big bump on my belly and that was his butt!
** Baby and i are measuring right on target.
** My blood pressure was perfect
** Iron was 10.8 and it should be 11 so I still have to keep my eye on that.
** his heartbeat was strong and he was kicking so much he even kicked the doppler while the dr. was checking the heartbeat!
** I have to start going to the dr. every 2 weeks instead of 4 weeks.
** Childbirth classes start in two weeks
** The pains I have been feeling are from round ligament pain and nothing to do with my cyst. She recommended that when we go on walks to not go on such long walks or do too much at one time.
** I could start feeling contractions at any time which is normal -- as long as there aren't too many in a row.
** I have to get a flu shot and it's recommended that DH does too
** It has been 4 weeks since I was at the dr. last and I gained 6 pounds. So, I am a little over what I want to be. Thanks a lot Halloween candy!!!!!
The neatest part of the whole visit was to be able to tell where he was at and what body part I was feeling! His little butt was so cute -- it was just sticking up out of my belly!!! What a QT pie!!! I had an idea that he finally moved out of breech because yesterday when he got the hiccups they were low in my abdomen and not on the right side!
AOTD *Pediatricians* Where I live you can schedule meetings with the pediatrician. We scheduled three appts. and we only went to one. We went into the clinic and the dr. talked to about 20 preggo couples and gave a run-down on the practice. Afterwards there was a Q&A session. We really liked them but afterwards we heard from our neighbor about the *best* pediatrician in the area. He only accepts new babies and does not do these interviews. We decided to choose him and if we don't like him then go w/ the place that we interviewed. We are choosing him because if we don't then we can't ever change our mind later because he only takes newborns. Hopefully that makes sense. We did a Q&A session with our neighbors and found out everything we wanted to know about his practice plus I called the office and found out a lot of info too. My only concern is he is really popular and I hope he isn't too busy!
AOTD *How am I feeling?* Fine as long as I don't do too much!
QOTD - Are you getting a flu shot? Is your DH??
my next appt is on Tuesday, November 15 which also coincides with my first childbirth class!
chefker: We have the same travel system!! It was the first post positive HPT purchase I made. I had fallen in love (pre-preg) with an Evenflo stroller that had been discontinued (sound familliar) and didn't like any others. So, when we found this one... oh, about 6 mos ago :rolleyes: we ordered it right away. I too like all the 'features' and it doesn't seem to be too bulky. I love the pattern as well, and you're right, it does go with boy or girl (a big consideration since I was only maybe 10 weeks at the time we got it). I love that it comes with the little headreast thing too. The bundle-me fits great over it (just installed that) although the dark colors don't go so well with the fabric, that's ok.
jasonsgal: If it were up to me, I'd try the other practice. Really, you don't have anything invested in this new one if you've only been there a few times. With my old Drs. office, I hated one of the docs I had to rotate thru. I literally was beginning to panic that he'd be the one on call for my delivery. I found out that the 2 docs I do like were separating from that practice to start their own at the same appt. that I found out we were having a boy. I was more excited about never having to see hated doc again than the gender of our child. Sad, but true. Like you were saying, you can go back to Doc #1 for the cyst after you deliver. I know you like doc #3 as well, but is dealing with all the other (reception, waiting, etc.) worth it to you? Keep in mind though, that when you deliver, YOU will be top priority.
elladee- we are supposed to start CB classes on Sunday, but will have to miss our first class because DH bought us hockey tickets for my birthday.. can't miss that! It's good to hear what we can expect from these classes... keep us updated!
jackie- have fun at your shower, sounds like you'll be getting tons of stuff! It's good that some of us don't have procrastinating family members!
yoga- that's one big baby you have there! I hope that you stay relatively comfortable for the next month and a half. At least you know you're having a c/s and you can plan for that. I'm hoping/planning to be induced around the same dates. Hosptial at Christmas = no fun.
Amie- your announcement for Betsy is amazing. You do such good work. I'm planning to try to do mine, but I'm sure it won't compare! :)
QOTD 1: Pediatricians. We decided we would use DH's doc who also does pediatrics. He is technically out of network for us, but we just have to pay the difference from what they'd pay in network (usu. $5-$7). Doesn't matter much b/c our ins. doesn't pay for well-baby visits anyway. :rolleyes: I like him, and he's got 4 kids of his own and a really good bedside manner. We live in a fairly big town, and there's only 4 small peds practices anyway, none any closer to our house than 30 mins. The other is like 5 or 10.
QOTD 2: Feeling. Ugh. Sleeping has become a nightmare. I feel like my hips are degenerating or something they way they hurt, and my back is uncomfortable after a few minutes. Oddly, my side/mostly stomach has been the most comfortable. Other than that, standing or sitting for too long is also a pain. A couple weeks ago, I developed serious side stich if I walk more than 1/2 a block. Doc says it's ligament pain, and it will happen even sooner in subsequent pgcys. Yea.
QOTD 3: I was a total registry peeker. Mostly so I knew if I needed to change things up on it or what I could still buy myself.
OOTD 4: Flu shot. Yeah, I'm trying to get one (we seem to be out around here) and so will DH. I've never gotten one before because I don't seem to get the flu. I do want the baby to be as protected as possible though, so if I do get it but just don't feel it, I'd feel horrible if it got passed to the baby. I told DH that under any other circumstances, I'd probably never get one. He feels the same.
Pediatrician
Going to ask my OB for a rec. next week. She lives near me & has kids so I figure she'll be a good resource.
Feeling
I think my ligament pain has subsided a bit. I"m having a much easier time getting around over the past few days. My discomfort is in my belly - like I feel like I"m going to explode! I really can't eat very much, but I do anyway & then I pay for it. The baby is very busy. I was actually sore yesterday from all of the pushing & kicking.
Flu Shot
I got mine today. DH probably isn't going to get one. My hope is that the baby will have the antibodies it needs until the flu season is over.
Registry
I have been peeking, but I'm getting kind of frustrated because there's so much left on there & I don't want to have to buy it all! We had one shower already & have another on the 12th & then the 26th. They are all small showers. I might take a little peeking break!
Pediatrician
We haven't really started looking into the pediatrician yet. We will probably start that search soon.
Feeling
I have been feeling pretty good so far. When I get home from work, I take about a 45 minute walk. I am hoping that I will feel well enough to continue that walk up until the very end. I have noticed that I do seem to get out of breath easier now.
Flu shot
Both DH and I got a flu shot. I got mine at my last dr visit and only got it this year cause I'm pregnant. DH plans to get one every year since he teaches and gets exposed to tons of germs.
jasonsgal--Sorry you aren't totally happy with your dr's office. On the plus side, if you stick with them, you will be top priority when you go into labor. I would just try to make sure you don't get an appointment with the on-call dr. It seems strange to me that they would schedule appointments for the on-call doctor.
yoganut--I can't believe how big your baby is already. I hope that you don't end up in the hospital for the holidays.
Good news--I finally got a call back from my dr's office. I passed the GTT!! DH will be happy too cause now he doesn't have to worry about what he cooks for dinner.
I'm getting excited about our shower on Saturday!! :D We're having a couples baby shower, so it's more of a low-key, friends & family get-together. I went with my MIL to pick out the decorations today, and I'm so glad I did b/c she would have had the house decked out with storks, teddy bears, and any other baby animal you can think of! Not that that type of decoration is bad - I just don't think it goes with the "adult" baby shower we're having. So, I made her keep the cutsie stuff to a minimum, but still pulled off a "baby" theme. :) MIL also bought me and baby girl an outfit - mine is for my shower and baby girl's is for next fall. So, good day for me!!
jjohm - Congrats on passing your GTT!
elladee - Glad you like your CB class!
sophonisba9 - Good luck with your GTT! I think my BRU registry is all messed up as well. We'll see how many duplicates we get at our shower this weekend.
chefker - Good luck on your 3 hour test! Sorry your placenta hasn't moved very much. Look on the bright side - you get to see your little guy again! I like the travel system you picked out!
yoganut - Is getting your fluid levels checked a normal routine? Or, are they doing that for you since your baby is big? I hope you stay out of the hospital until after Christmas!
jasonsgal - Sorry you don't like your doctors office. It's probably better to stay with them until after the baby is born and then go somewhere else. I hope you end up with one of the doctors you like when you deliver!
meggers - Congrats on passing your GTT!
QOTD - Pediatrician - I asked my OB for a list of recommended peds at my last appt, but she forgot to give it to me. I go back next week, so I'm going to pick up the list then. Then I'll start setting up appts to meet with them! Hoping to have one picked by December!
QOTD - How I'm feeling - Overall, I'm feeling ok. I'm starting to get more tired in the evenings; I'm walking (waddling) really slow; running out of breath a lot faster than usual; hips KILL me when I wake up in the morning. I have my good days and my bad days. Today's a good day, so I'm more inclined to say I feel great!
QOTD - Registry Peeking - Oooohh.... I'm bad at this! I peek at least once a day. BUT, I think my BRU registry isn't updating b/c it shows that only three items have been purchased, and our shower is in two days. So, either no one's buying us anything or BRU's registry sucks. I'm going with the latter for my piece of mind. ;)
QOTD - Flu shot - DH and I both got ours this morning. I made him get one b/c I didn't want him getting sick around the baby.
I am totally freaking out!! MY sister just called to give us the news that she is pregnant with her first baby! She is 7 weeks along!!
I am so happy for her! :D
I sent her the link to the June mommies thread and told her to join!!!
What a surprise....
jasonsgal I just found out on Sunday that my sister is pg too! Although I don't know how far along she is but she just found out a week ago so I'm asuming not very far. I haven't even talked to her yet. I guess they had been trying for awhile so I'm extrememly excited that I'm going to be an aunt! Congrats to you too! :D
Pediatrician since we already have one for the three kids we really don't need to look. I suppose I should make sure he can take on another patient although I never really asked when I had my DD.
Feeling I also have my good days and my bad days. I haven't been feeling too bad the past week as far as physical pain goes but I have been becoming more tired in the evenings. I also noticed some swelling in my legs last night so that fun is about to begin again. :rolleyes:
Flu shot I was suppose to get one at my appt on Tues but I mentioned to my Dr that I can get them for free at work next week so she said I could just do that if I wanted. Now I found out they are pushing it back to the 30th so hopefully that will be OK if I wait until then. My DH probably won't get the shot but my DD has had it and I'll probably get them for the boys too.
I had my appt on Tuesday and everything is looking great. My b/p is good, for me anyway. I lost a pound which shocked the crap out of me since I had a bunch of Halloween candy the night before. My total weight gain now is 5 lbs now. I'm so freak'n excited about that! I also let my Dr know that I wanted to get my tubes tied if I were to have a C-section, I know it's not likely but just in case. She tried getting the h/b but he was moving around so much that she couldn't count the number, I think he even kicked the doppler once too.
Sorry to those who have to take the 3 hour GTT, I've done it twice so I know how much fun it is. :rolleyes:
I'm so far behind on s/o's again I don't think I can catch up. The only time I have to post is in the evening after the kids are in bed and then I'm too tired. I am reading along though.
Hey Ladies...
Sorry, I'm too pooped for SO's, but I have a question:
Is the underside of anyone's belly REALLY sore? I'm not talking about round ligament pain, I'm talking full-time soreness. Like it's bruised or something all across the bottom. It hurts really bad!
Oh, and thank you guys for the compliments on Betsy's announcement! I think it's going to be perfect :)
this is probably going to be the most you ever heard from me...lately, i have had NO memory or ability to concentrate on non-baby stuff - ie work!
jasonsgal/nikkid: congrats on your new nieces and nephews to be!
QOTDs...
CB classes: We've been taking Bradley classes for about 5 weeks now, and our instructor is awesome. We ended up being the only students this term, so it's a private lesson...plus, she's about as far along as I am! I am so glad we decided on this class, because DH is really getting a lot out of it, and I have so much confidence that he'll be a great coach. Since we're having a hospital birth, I'm not sure if I'm going to hire a doula...anyone else going this route?
Pediatrician: I have no idea! guess I better start doing some research...All I know is that my friends all tell me that it's VERY important for the location to be convenient to you, as you will be going a LOT the first couple years.
Feeling: Lately, I've been feeling pretty good, except that I get tired so so early! I fell asleep reading last night at about 10. Slight heartburn but nothing major. So far, no ligament pains, although baby is getting heavier and I can definitely feel him bounce around when I walk. I am now exactly the same weight as my DH...grrrrr. My brother didn't neglect to remind me that that is what some college football players weigh. I guess that's what little brothers are for!
Flu shot: I'm going to try to get one today. My OB's office didn't have it, so I am going to a local urgent care clinic. I normally don't get the flu, nor the flu shot, but I guess it's better to be safe this year.
Registry peeking: Don't do it!! When I checked my best friend's registry the day before her shower a few weeks ago, I was worried because all these people replied that they'd come, but only few presents were bought...Apparantly people stop by BRU or BBB on the way to the shower!! Our combined family/friends co-ed shower is scheduled for my sister in law's house. It's going to be on Dec 3, since my best friend is having her baby in (hopefully) a week but she insisted she be the main planner...what a sweetie!
Our one and only baby shower was yesterday! We had a great time! It was a couples baby shower at my Mom's house, so it was pretty laid back. We had about 45 pp come - mainly just close friends and family. Everyone was so generous. I can't believe all of the gifts we received! Our close friends went in together and got us the Graco pack-n-play (in mocha) and FP aquarium cradle swing (two very expensive items). MIL and Step-FIL bought us the Graco Metrolite Travel System (delancy print). :) Very excited that they were able to get this since you all know it has been discontinued!! My Mom and Step-dad got us the Baby Papasan. The only really expensive item we have left to get is the high chair. And, christmas is coming up so that may go on my list! We are pretty much set for bibs, burping clothes, and receiving blankets! LOL! We got tons of those. And, baby girl has some very cute outfits to look forward to. :) The only items we really need to get now are onsies (need to stock up on these) and all items related to breastfeeding (boppy, pump, bottles, etc). I also need to get a diaper bag, but that's going on my christmas list as well!
Our baby bedding is supposed to arrive this week, since it FINALLY shipped on friday. I ordered it over a month ago. :rolleyes: I can't wait to get her crib all set up and the room organized!!
jasonsgal - Congrats to your sister! How cool that your boy will have a little cousin close to his age to play with. :)
Nikki - Congrats to your sis, too! I can't believe you've only gained 5 pounds! :eek: That's great!
Amie - I get soreness around my belly button area, but that's b/c I have an umbilical hernia. I'm not sure if that's the same soreness you're talking about though.
What a busy weekend! I've hardly had time to go online, darn. Yesterday we got the crib & changing table, which we purchased earlier this week. Unfortunately they don't offer delivery, so I had to enlist the help of my uncle, who has a pickup truck! So I met up with my uncle and aunt at Baby Depot yesterday, and they helped me truck it home. Meanwhile, DH and FIL were fiddling with our electrical outlets at the house (we are in the process of moving our washer & dryer up to the first floor from the basement).
So glad we had so many people over yesterday who could help, as I was in no shape to lift the crib or changing table upstairs! My uncle & FIL brought the changing table upstairs, and since the crib would NOT fit up our stairwell, we just unpacked it in the living room and brought it up piece by piece. I put the crib together last night (except for the mattress support, since we didn't go crib-mattress shopping just yet), and it is looking very nice. I can't wait to get the baby's room all decorated! I've found some cute baby curtains on target.com that I'm about to order.
I am feeling OK for the most part lately. VERY sore legs most days--between sciatica and muscle soreness. I think I am walking different now--the PG waddle, lol--which may account for feeling so stiff.
jasonsgal~ Sorry to hear about your doctor's office. I've dealt with offices like that. :( But, yay on your sister's pregnancy! :)
Nikkid~ Congrats on your sister's pregnancy as well! So cool that many of the Jan. babies will have friends/cousins to play with. :) Both my best friend and cousin had babies this year, in September & October respectively.
jjohm~ I get tired very early too! I just cannot stay awake past 10:00 most nights.
Jules1025~ Yay on getting the Graco Metrolite! I kind of gave up hope and took that off of our registry. We registered for that baby Papa-san too, I've heard a lot of good things about it! Hope your baby bedding arrives soon.
jules Yay on an awesome baby shower! I'm so glad you got so much of the stuff you wanted.
chefker Yuck on leg discomfort. I hear you though. I literally hobbled home from church today as I got two horrible leg cramps as we were getting on the subway. Not fun!
We had our hospital tour yesterday. The hospital itself if kind of blah, but I was really impressed with labor and delivery and the recovery floor seemed okay too. The view from the rooms are amazing as they overlook the East River and you can see the Statue of Liberty. Very nice! I'm actually looking forward to being in labor there!
Well here we go into another week ladies! Each week that goes by we get just that much closer! :) :eek:
Today was a sad, sad day...I took off my wedding/engagement rings because they no longer fit my swollen fingers.
On Friday when I got home from work I had a message from one of the nurses in the dr office asking me to call back today. I had taken my GTT on Monday, so all weekend I worried about what the heck she was calling for. I just got off the phone with her and the good news is that I don't have GD! The reason she was calling is that my bloodwork did come back as slightly anemic. I have to take OTC iron suplements now in addition to my prenatals. I am not looking forward to the constipation issues that are going to result from this, though.
In other news, my aunt is cool. She found us a Zooper Walk Air stroller at a garage sale a couple weeks ago for $17. It's in perfect shape. Because where we live is a bit more rural, we'd wanted to get a monster off road stroller for walks on the not-so-paved trails around here. This one is perfect for that! Apparently they've discontinued it because most people found the non-swiveling front wheels to be a pain, but it's exactly what we want. So I'm psyched that we don't have to spend a ton of money on it now.
jjohm, aw, that is sad.
KRL626, glad you like you L&D tour. That's how we feel about our hospital, too. It's not in the nicest area of town, but it has the best L&D floor of all the hospitals in the area (besides the special hospital for babies with problems). That floor is like you stepped into a different world.
chefker, how exciting to have the furniture all set up! Glad that there were people to help you. I can only imagine trying to lug it all at this point. Sorry to hear that your placenta hasn't moved much yet.
jules1025, sounds like a great shower! It's got to be so much fun to finally have all that baby stuff. I'm so looking forward to our shower next weekend.
chefker - I've got the pg waddle going on now too. It's slightly annoying since it slows me down a lot!
KRL626 - Glad your hospital tour went well and you're looking forward to delivering there!
jjohm - That is sad. I haven't been able to wear my engagment ring for several months now, but I can still fit my wedding band on. Who knows for how much longer though!
elladee - Congrats on passing your GTT! Sorry to hear you're slightly anemic, but that can be easily taken care of. What a great find on the stroller!
Elladee.... that is wonderful news!!!
jules1025... I just PM'd you my info
Quick Post...
I am so achy lately it's hard for me to sleep, my hips hurt and I am walking the preggo walk.
We went on the maternity tour of the other hospital (remember how horrible the other one was?) Well Holy Cross was wonderful!! Right down to the tour guide. They totally remodel the entire Maternity Ward.. it's really nice.
I felt so comfortable and confident there, I am already registered there (did it when I went for my GD class) speaking of GD I am still doing good with the diet my numbers are within the normal range except first thing in the mornig it's like 5 -6 points higher but my doctor and nutritionist aren't alarmed b/c the numbers are low throughout the day the other times.
I picked up the crib bedding from JCPenny on Friday it is so beautful!
terrys wifey--I'm glad your hospital tour went well and things seem to be going well with the GD so far.
elladee--Congrats on passing the GTT.
jjohm--Sorry you had to take your rings off. :(
KRL626--Glad your tour went well.
chefker--I have had sore legs too. I keep expecting the soreness to go away, but it just doesn't. I was thinking my legs were sore from walking too much one day, but the soreness doesn't go away so it must be a pregnancy thing.
Amie- I have the bottom of the belly soreness. It's worse anytime that I spend standing.
My doctor's appontment was today and it generally went well. I get to start showing up every two weeks. That means I'm in the home stretch, right? I did the icky GTT and managed to not throw up, I almost fainted though, but that was only when they were taking blood. They're going to check my thyroid levels too. I've been feeling totally unmotivated recently. Like even fun stuff is too much trouble. I'd think I have a bit of hormonal depression, but I don't feel down or sad. I'm not having more than the usual crying jag. I think at this point a tear fest every two weeks is pretty standard. So it may very well by my thyroid.
I asked about measuring so far ahead at my last appointment. The doc confirmed what I was thinking, that measurement was mostly a baseline. I measured 29 weeks at 24 and now at 29 weeks I'm measuring 34 weeks. So I'm right on my own personal growth curve, still 5 weeks ahead. Doc did say that I might drop off a bit so that by the end I'd be more on the standard schedule. If I'm still measuring a ton ahead then they'll do an ultrasound to see if it's extra amniotic fluid or big baby or whatever. I also asked how far past my due date she'd let me go. My MIL desperately wants to get plane tickets now. The doc said she wouldn't let me go more than a week. That's rather comforting news. Now I know this will be over by the end of january.
The doctor also said that I'm carrying vertically. She used another term, but basically baby is all up and down and not sticking out very much. I would have thought that by 29 weeks it would be pretty obvious that I'm pregnant, but no one seems to notice. If I mention that I'm pregnant they always ask when I'm due and upon hearing January, I get sort of dubious looks.
Is anyone else having alot of Braxton Hicks Contractions?
I am having them everyday, I write them down to make sure that is all it is :o
I read in one of my books that if I am having 4 or more in 1 hour I need to call my doctor.
My hormones are out of control!! I bought some blank invitations so I can make my shower invites (I know I am so anal) anyway I have never done this before so after practicing I finally did it and it looks pretty good. I am going to Michaels this afternoon and buy some pink ribbon and to tie a bow,
Anyway, I printed them all out and when DH got home I showed them to him, he had the nerve to say "Why isn't my name on them?"
Can you believe that? I was so pissed off. I mean HELLO!!! how about oh! honey those look nice, how did you do that? Was it hard? etc... no he's worried about his name not being on the invitation.
I was going to do it but I figured people would see that and although it will be a co ed shower they would be trying to bring every male family member they have to boyfriend/husband.
We are having our shower in a hotel banquet hall so we have to be careful with the guest list. I'm hoping I can mail these invites out tomorrow. Wish me luck.
Anyway back to the story,I just got really emotional and when he got in the shower I started crying. Then when we were going to bed I laid there crying and had to go to the bathroom to get myself together (he never knew) I looked in the mirror and was WOW!!! I am losing it!:(
has anyone packed their bag for the hospital yet?
Hi ladies,
Glad to see everyone is doing well. Had my baby shower this past weekend, too. It was in my hometown and there were about 20 women there...including my grandmother and my MIL and SIL, who all had to travel to get there, so I was really touched. It was overwhelming all the "stuff" I got! I still can't believe how generous everyone was. Also, I have never seen so many yellow baby clothes in my life! That's what I get for not finding out the sex. ;) On a positive note, I got a million onesies and sleepers (which I hear is what the baby lives in for a while anyway).
My mom & dad paid for the crib (Legacy something) and also got us the infant seat and the extra base! My grandmother got us the stroller and my in-laws basically got everything else! My MIL LOVES to shop for baby stuff. Unfortunately, most of the gifts are still at my parents' house because we are meeting them at my brother's for Thanksgiving. They will bring the stuff up and we will then take it back to our house. I want to organize everything NOW!
At my last appointment, I was also still measuring a bit "big" (maybe 2 weeks ahead). I also have to take iron supplements.
I'll join in with the doctor's office vents: I always try to get a morning appointment, but twice they have sent me a letter changing it to the afternoon. Then I'm stuck in the waiting room for over two hours!!! It totally sucks and wastes my entire afternoon.
sophonisba9: I think I am carrying the same as you. When the doctor said I was measuring "big" I said that is so weird because everyone comments how "small" I am for being due in January. She basically said the same thing about carrying vertically.
Had my OB appt today. It was uneventful - except for the news that I'm 50% effaced already!! :eek: The doc said it was normal to be that effaced at this point in pregnancy. I am ZERO cm dilated, though. So, that's good news!
Other good news... my good friend's mother is an OB and she offered to give us a *free* 3D u/s!!! We scheduled it for next Friday (11/18). I'm so excited! I can't wait to see baby girl!
QOTD - Has everyone pretty much decided what hospital you're delivering at? I need to decide between two hospitals. I'm taking our childbirth prep class from Hospital #1 - that I was planning on delivering at, but found out today that my OB also delivers at another hospital in Houston (Hospital #2). I read up on Hospital #2's maternity services and they sound really nice - private rooms for labor, delivery AND recovery; jacuzzi tubs in room; sleep sofa for DH; rocking chairs; CD players; room service for food. Hospital #1 has separate L&D and recovery rooms, and I don't know the specifics for the other things. So... I'm at a loss. And, the only tour I could get with Hospital #2 is on December 13. Is that too late?? When am I supposed to have the pre-registration done?
-------------------------------------
terrys wifey - I got your PM! Thanks! I get BH contrax every once in a while - they are so minor though I don't worry about them. I have not packed my hospital bag yet. I put a reminder on my calendar when I'm 35/36 weeks to pack my bag.
sophonisba9 - Good luck on your GTT! Hope you passed! So, since baby is vertical do you feel him in your ribs a lot?
Kate&Joey - Glad your shower went well! Sounds like you got a lot of great stuff! I hear you about organizing everything NOW - we had our shower on Saturday too, and the baby's room is packed with gifts but nothing's organized.
jjohm - Thanks for the belly mapping link! I'll need to try that!
As for the QOTD re picking a hospital: I have two choices and neither one of them are thrilling. Hospital A is bigger, but has an awful reputation. Everyone I've spoken to has told me not to use that hospital. I was told to go there when I was ready to die! Something about the place gives me the creeps whenever I've been there to visit. Unfortunately, it is also the hospital that my Dr. uses the most. I've already picked Hospital B, which is very, very small and I know pretty much nothing about it. It is closer and will be more convenient. I'll have a tour of the place Monday evening. With DD, I went to a really good hospital that had the most awesome nurses. I was spoiled. I would love to go back, but I live about 1.5 hours away from there now.
It is almost surreal to think that some of us may have our little ones as soon as next month!
If I happen to go into labor two weeks before my due date, then I could give birth at the end of this year! That would be a nice tax break! However, my goal is to not go into labor at all since I'm supposed to have a planned C-section. And since it will be a c-section, DS will definately be here at least a week before his due date!
Does anyone else have a "feeling" or prediction of when they might have their baby? Sometimes I dont think I'll make it to January.
In other unrelated news: DD's first birthday is this weekend, so we've been busy cleaning the house for her party, which is tiring all by itself. I've been feeling very nostalgic lately and looking at DD's pictures from when she was born. Time flies so quickly...I can't belive that it has been a year already. She is so big now and is walking...She seemed so tiny when she was born. Amazing, it truly is amazing and I can't believe that I'm about to go on this amazing journey again with DS. It has been scary, exciting, confusing, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately the most wonderful experience I've had so far and can't wait to start it all over again.
terryswifey I get BH a bunch of times a day. I guess they are normal for me. My doctor is keeping a close watch on me though in regards to them as couple of times I have gotten a bunch in a row. Lately though there has been no real pattern and they are starting to get more uncomfortable than before.
Well my shower is this weekend which I guess I'm looking forward to. The damper on it all is that my DH's father passed away yesterday. :( He had been pretty sick for a while. So he is flying down to Trinidad tomorrow night. MIL is up here but she was never married to DH's dad and she'll still be at the shower. I wish I could go down there with him, but I just wouldn't feel totally safe flying out of the country this late in pregnancy. So that's where I'm at right now. Dh won't be back until next Wednesday and I hate staying here alone when I am PG. My BF is driving down from the shower from Boston but will only be with me from Friday to Saturday night. So I am just praying that nothing happens to me while DH is gone.
Thanks for listening ladies.
Quick post....
Had my 3 hour fasting glucose test today. Went all right in that I didn't pass out! :) I did end up with an awful headache after though, just as I did with the first, one hour long test. I hope I passed this one! They took blood right when I got there; then I had to drink the lemon lime stuff. It wasn't really a syrup consistency like I'd been told--BUT it was way sweeter than the drink I had for my first test. Kind of tasted like Sprite with a few extra spoonfuls of sugar in it. BLECH. Then they drew blood 3 more times, once each hour on the hour.
I have a scratchy/sore throat now too. Not sure if it's from drinking that glucose junk this morning, or what. I hope it's just that, and not that I'm coming down with something!
I should have results by Friday, hopefully. If I don't hear from the doctor's office, I'll give them a call. If I fail this one, it'll mean I have GD, unfortunately. :(
jules - yeah on the free 3-D u/s! I had to go to the fetal medicine specialist yesterday to have them check my fluid levels, and their machine is also equipped with 3-D/4-D. It was so fun! We saw the baby yawn, blink and try to suck on the cord. Here is a scan of pictures...sorry they are so tiny, but I couldn't figure out how to blow them up. I hope you enjoy yours!
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5cf28b3127cce950c0e86f62f00000016108KZNmjdw0g
The appointment went really well. They said the baby looks perfect, and is still a big boy. They estimated him to be 3 to 3.5 weeks ahead in size, and weigh around 5.5 lbs. The fluid level is fine - so, nothing to be concerned about from that perspective.
KRL - I am so sorry to hear about your FIL. Take care, and tell that baby to stay put!
chefker - My fingers are crossed that you get good results with the 3 hour test!
I'm at work and its going to be a long night. Gotta run!
To those participating in the virtual baby shower... Everyone has been sent a PM with the information of the person you are buying for and a date to have the item shipped by. Please check your private messages!! If you did not receive a PM, please let me know ASAP!!
Lobeth - I kind of have a feeling I'll go a little earlier than my due date. Watch - I'll end up going a week over or something!
KRL - I'm so sorry for your family's loss. :(
chefker - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! I hope you pass!
chefker, I've got my fingers crossed for you, too.
KRL626, I'm sorry about your FIL. I hope you are able to enjoy your shower.
Lobeth, happy first birthday to your DD! How exciting. If it makes you feel any better, I'm already nostalgic about the first parts of this pregnancy! I'm going to be a royal mess throughout my poor kids life.
Birth Day Predictions - My mom went early (5 to 7 days) with all my brothers and me. I really hope I follow suit, but it'll probably be just my luck that I end up 2 weeks overdue and induced.
Jules Thanks for putting together the baby shower stuff... It's gonna be so FUN! Just a quick question though... is it a secret baby shower? Meaning, is the recipient supposed to know who they're paired with before the gift comes? I just don't want to blow anything before the gift-day! :)
thanks again!
I got my lab results this morning. The doctor was wrong on both. She thought my thryoid might be out of whack, it is well within normal. she thought I'd have no trouble on the GTT, I failed. I have to do the 3 hour test tomorrow morning. I'm so upset. It just feels like the last straw. My hip and back were killing me last night and I've been puking again. I just feel miserable. My belly is sore too.
To top everything off, DH told me this morning that he will likely be working 14 plus hours a day for the next week and half. He might have to miss his own 30th birthday dinner and he's already had to cancel playing in a golf tournament on Sunday. I can't even go hang out with my best friend. She and her family are at their cabin this week. They don't get back till sunday.
Jen309 - I'll leave that up to you guys. I think it might be fun to keep it a secret until they open the gift (you can leave a note in the gift saying who it's from). That's what I planned on doing! :)
chefker - That is great news! What a relief!
I had an appointment on Wed. Everything seems to be going really well. The nurse practitioner did say that I'm measuring big, which is normal for me. I am expecting that I will have a large baby. My next appointment is on Nov. 23 (Darn, I have to leave work early the day before Thanksgiving ;) )
I got through the 3 hour GTT. Thanks for the well wishes y'all. I thought I was going to die after the first hour. I sat there thinking that I don't want to have a second baby and how much I wished I was having twins so I wouldn't even have to think about doing this again. I must have looked really awful because the tech made me stay lying down. I fell asleep on an exam table and the next thing I knew, the second hour was over. I was feeling a bit better by then, but doozed off for half an hour. Then I got a couple of phone calls and just stayed awake for the last 15 minutes. By the end of the 3 hours I felt almost normal. I may survive to have a second kid after all.
Hi Ladies!
Sophia - Yes, wasn't that 3 hour a killer? I thought I was going to pass out!
Chefker - Congrats on passing! I hope I follow in your footsteps!
***
Had the 3-hour GTT on Friday. Wasn't too bad until afterwards, when DH and I got to lunch. I started shaking and sweating and thought I was going to pass out. I ate a baked potato, went home and took my blood sugar and it was only 52! No wonder I felt bad!
Yall, I have the most exciting news! My BBs leaked today!!!:D Never thought I would be excited about that, but I sure was! It just makes this that much more real and I'm so proud of my body!LOL
Have a great Sunday!!
Good luck to everyone taking the 3 hour GTT! Fingers crossed for you.
I had my shower yesterday. It was so wonderful and I was just really overwhelmed with everyone that came and the support they showed. My friend that threw it really over did herself. I was sad though that DH couldn't be there. :( I want to do something really nice for her as a thank you. Any ideas?
So I'm just counting the days until DH comes back on Wednesday and I can show him everything we got. I made a list of things we still need and I think I'll wait until after my shower at work before I go out and get anything. They usually give you a big gift certificate to where you are registered. I thankfully only got one item of clothing at my shower! This is so great because I literally have so much stuff already from my friend that I don't have space for any more clothes! Another cool thing they did was everyone brought their favorite children's book for Jeremiah so now I have this awesome basket of books for him. It really was so wonderful.
Amie and sophonisba9 I'm really pulling for you guys that you get passing results!
Amie- if your blood sugar crashed that bad after the test, maybe during the test you had decent low levels. I'm just not feeling terribly hopeful about my passing. I don't really have any good reason for feeling this way, just tired and feeling down.
I woke up last night a couple of times whimpering because I was in so much pain. I know I've only got ten weeks left, but I can't wait for this to be over. I'm so freaking tired of being in pain. I've been feeling pukey more too. I had to get up twice last night to gag. Between the gagging and the pain, i didn't get much sleep.
We still need a lot of basics. I have another shower Thanksgiving weekend so I think I will just wait until after that, take inventory, return some things that I know I have doubles of, & use the money to buy some of the necessities.
Hi all! I had my first shower this weekend too. It was a busy weekend, I guess. This was the small shower for just my Dad's side of the family. They wanted to do their own thing in Buffalo since a couple of my aunts aren't really up to traveling for the big shower. Anyway, I got a ton of stuff! They all went and got big things themselves. I figured the things like the swing or the high chair would be good group gifts, but no, I got almost all the big stuff we registered for at the small shower. They were too generous. I got a few clothes, too. I was actually excited about that. I love all the girlie stuff that I'd never justify buying myself. :D
I'll be back for shout outs later...
Good luck to everyone taking the 3 hour GTT! sophia- I had a pretty bad headache for 2 days after mine. Not the best experience, but thank God it is over now!
Tomorrow night is our first (rescheduled) childbirth class. Last Tuesday was supposed to be the first one, but apparently the instructor didn't like the way the room was set up. So now they're having it held at the hospital. Somewhat annoying--we registered to have a class at one of the 'satellite' locations (the local health center near our house), specifically so we WOULDN'T have to drive into Hartford during rush hour traffic! Hopefully DH will get home from work in enough time for us to make it to class on time. The class starts at 6:30...he is usually home by 5 or 5:30. There won't even be time to eat probably. I'm just paranoid we'll be late, knowing how BAD rush hour traffic is in the city. Ugh. I AM looking forward to the class though...just not the traffic!
Lately I'm having a LOT more sciatic pain....yesterday was particularly bad. We were supposed to go to a hockey game but I stayed home with my leg elevated. DH went to the game with his brother, but I seriously couldn't MOVE. Today it is feeling much better, so resting it all day seems to have helped.
Sounds like I am having a second shower, thrown by my MIL, on 12/17. The first one is the BIG one my mom is throwing on 12/11, it's a brunch kind of thing. AND, I've heard talk that the girls in my office are going to throw me a shower here at work! Wow. Everyone is so generous....I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! But appreciative. :)
Has anyone tried or bought any maternity bras? Can anyone recommend any particular one (brand, style, etc.) I am SERIOUSLY uncomfortable wearing my regular underwire bras. I did buy bigger sizes in my usual pre-PG styles, but the wires are just hurting me now. The bad thing is, I was busty to begin with, and of course the bbs have gotten bigger (by one cup size) so far. I think my back size has gone up by one size as well. I don't even know WHERE to look for maternity bras! There is a specialty bra shop near my mom's house...may stop there after work today if I have time.
maternity bras - I have one on for the first time today. It's from Target, I think it was $11. I found it on an endcap in the regual bra section. They have all different styles and they come in boxes.
So far, it's ok. They had a bunch of different styles, but only two didn't have an underwire - and that was the whole point of my looking for a new bra. My old underwires have been annoying me, too. I was surprised, too, because I thought underwires were bad for nursing. Something about blocking milk ducts. :confused:
This one is not padded at all (neither of the non-underwire ones were), but that's not much of an issue, since I've been having to wear nursing pads for a while now anyway (darn leaking bbs). The one thing I do like about this bra is that the back has more adjustability than most bras. There are more little hooks than normal, and they are spaced further apart.
I think I'm going to try for one of the nicer bras next, which I'll probably have to order over the internet. But for $11, I figure I'd check this one out first.
AOTD - Is underside of belly sore? One evening a couple weeks ago I felt some extreme discomfort around my belly button - it felt like the baby was pulling/tugging on the umbilical cord. That feeling royally sucks! That is the only soreness/pain I have felt though. I hope you feel better soon.
Love the belly shot!!
jules1025 Glad your shower was a success! I agree, it's so awesome that if we don't get all the gifts that we registered for at our shower we can put it on our christmas list! loving that. BTW: Thanks for everything you did to setup the virtual baby shower. Decision made on hospital?? - Yes, there is only one option here for us! So, it's basically always been made. I can't imagine having the freedom to actually choose!
Chefker So glad your uncle could help you and your DH move/pick-up all the baby furniture! CONGRATS on passing your 3 hour test!! Whoo hoo
Sorry to hear about all the sciatic pain you have had :(
KRL626 I am so sorry to hear about DH's father. I wouldn't want to fly out of the country either -- Big hugs to you!!
That's great that your shower was such a success!!
AOTD - Ideas for thank you to shower hosts???? My shower is this Saturday and I know it's been driving my MOH, MIL, and Aunt crazy trying to put together. I went ahead and got my MOH a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant w/ a homemade coupon for a night of baby-sitting for her and her DH. For my MIL she loves Martinis so I went to www.swankmartini.com and picked out some really cool martini glasses. For my aunt I purchased her favorite perfume. Each gift will also have a really nice thank you card letting them know how much they mean to me :).
jjohn Sorry about taking your wedding band off -- :( I haven't been able to wear mine in forever. In fact, it's in the safe deposit box!!!!
elladee I have been on Iron since I was 10 or 11 weeks pregnant -- I haven't had any constipation issues but I did find out that you should NOT take your prenatals and Iron at the same time. I take my iron in the morning and it's recommended to take it with something acidic -- like OJ because it digests better and is more effective. I take my prenatals in the evening. I didn't find this out until just recently and I wish the DRS had told me months ago when I started taking them. (or perhaps they did and I don't remember!)
terrys wifey That is wonderful news that you loved the hospital! Glad your GD is getting under control. AOTD: BH contractions? I am not sure if I have had them. I think I may have a few times (tummy tightening up) but it wasn't very noticeable to me. So perhaps that wasn't it?
I can completely sympathize with you on your out-of-whack hormones! Mine are going crazy too. Did you get the invites out in time? AOTD: Hospital Bag? -- No, I haven't packed mine yet. When should we have it packed by? Does anyone have a list of what should go in there? :)
Kate&Joey Congrats on your shower! Sounds like you and everyone else had a great time :)
I can't believe your DRS office made you wait TWO hours in the waiting room. I think I would of gone ballistic. I was tearing up after 45 minutes!!!! :(
tsmom - Glad to hear you're doing well! How is your house remodel coming along?
sophonisba9 - Keeping my fingers crossed that you passed the test! Sorry you've had to deal with so much this pregnancy. Only 10 more weeks left!!
Amie - Hope you passed the 3hr test! Wow - bbs are leaking already?! Your nursery is so cute! And, you're looking great!
J&K2003 - Thanks for the link to that vendor. I really like her work and may order a set once our girl is born!
KRL626, catandmouse, and elladee - Glad your showers went well!
chefker - Hope you enjoy your CB class tomorrow night. Our CB class is on Tuesday nights, too. :) As for maternity bras - might as well go ahead and buy a nursing bra since you'll need one (or two) soon! I've heard Bravado nursing bras are good (esp. the ++ size). I have a Bravado maternity bra in Medium Plus and I'm not that thrilled with it. It has a seam on each cup that digs into my bbs. I bought my Bravado bra online. I've also heard good things about YES nursing bras that are sold on ebay. Hope you find something you like! I hate wearing my underwire bra - it's so uncomfortable!
Still no results on my 3 hour GTT. I'm very annoyed with the doctor's office.
I went on a massive shopping trip today. I set out to see if I could find a crib I liked at another store and maybe even a cheaper one. I have one picked out at BRU, but I don't love it, just tolerate it. Well, I found one I really love, but it's $50 more. All in all $250, isn't a lot for a crib, especially one I love. I'm going to take DH to see it this weekend. We'll probably just buy it then and there. The saleswoman said it's on clearance so they have just a couple in the warehouse, but that also means it doesn't have to be special ordered. I'll feel much better when Jack has a place to sleep.
I also got a bunch of clothes at the Carter's outlet. Everything was at least 50% off. I think I'm set for clothes for the first 4 or 5 months. I still need to get some sundries (diapers, wipes breast feeding stuff), but then I think we're set.
Sophia - me too! I still don't know...am very anxious to find out...I hope we both get good news!
I had some BH or something last night. I'm assuming they were BH but they hurt pretty back for about 20 minutes on and off but then I fell asleep.
afternoon -
congrats to everyone having fun showers this weekend and getting lots of good stuff. I love the idea of everyone bringing their favorite books - we did a book wishing well with T and to this day we read them all. She loves books!
Sophia - So happy to hear that you passed your 3 hr!!! Yeah and what a relief! Congrats on your shopping trip - hope you and dh can get the crib that you want in stock later this week.
Amie - have my fingers crossed for you - hope you are in the tub resting right now and will have positive news when the ob office calls tomorrow. LOVE Sam's letters too!
Yoga - How ya doing with that big boy growin in there?
Jasonsgal - great ideas for your shower host - love the swank martini site!
Jules - thanks for asking the house is coming along - we are almost done (well we will never really be done) but just have to finish off our fireplace and a little cubbie where we are going to move our computer and stuff.
DH and I went shopping for new living room furniture this weekend - ugh so no fun. There is still so much to do and poor brother's (that is what we call him) room is the place that we put all the crap! I hope we get this stuff figured out soon so I can put his room together. We are still waiting on buying a crib - I was hoping T would be ready for a big girl bed by then but she shows no signs of wanting out.....
I just got a call from my dr office and I passed my GTT - 127 and they want it under 130 so close but still passing!! My next appt is 11-30-05
Chefker - sorry you missed the hockey game and with back pain at that!!! I am having quite a bit of it myself and boy what would it be like to get a good night sleep?
Maternity Bras I just saw an ad somewhere that said Cindy Crawford has a new line of them out - sexy cute lace ones (these are really hard to find) - most of them are so ugly and boring your get really sick of them. I have a couple left over from T so I will probably break those out soon! The Bravado's are really comfortable!
Sorry I have been out of the loop for a while. I am just having a hard time keeping up and taking care of an almost 2 year old.
I just got back from the OB and found out that I failed my 3 hr GTT miserably. I knew I would since I had GD with DD and my 1 hour was very high this time, but I didn't think I would be this depressed. It must just be hormones today or something because I just want to cry. I go to the perinatologist tomorrow and the nutritionist. At least it's only another 6 weeks of the GD diet and monitoring my sugars before I have Daniella. When I go back to the OB in 2 weeks on 11/29 we will set my C-section date hopefully. Sorry to be such a downer. :(
jasonsgal, thanks for the advice! I hadn't heard anything about not taking the prenatal and iron together, but I'll do that from now on.
Just doing a quick post. I was admitted Monday for preterm Labor at 29W3days. I've been on Magnesium since and have gotten my shots for the babies lung development. It seems like everything has pretty much stopped except for the occasional contrax, and I am already 3cm dialiated. We're still waiting to talk with the doctor about the next steps, so I've been hanging out just trying to stay sane. We've met with NICU doctors and I'll be meeting with a lactation consultant this afternoon to talk about pumping for the babies. Funny how things can take such a turn in such a short period of time.
But spirits are high and I'm trying to stay positive. Babies are a little over 3lbs now, so they have that going for them.
Hey Ladies,
Mrstazlvr - I'm so sorry about the GTT! That sucks. :(
MrsPuls - OMG! I'm glad you are hanging in there, and it sounds like you have some big healthy babies in there, even if they have to come early. Keep us posted!
***
Well my OB just called and here were my results:
Now tell me this isn't weird...
Fasting was 85
1 Hour - 207 (!!)
2 Hour - 145
3 Hour - 46 (!!)
Dr. C. says the results are pretty abnormal with the high and then really low. So she says she just wants me to keep monitoring at home...so that's cool. Everytime I have monitored at home they have been in the 'normal' range anyway, so I think I'm good. She says with the low, hypoglycemic score, she doesn't think I have GD, but if my home numbers start to get high, we will test again (ugh) and see.
Weird, though huh?
MrsPuls, oh how scary! I'm glad to hear that the contrx have pretty much stopped. I hope the babies can stay in there and bake for a little while longer. 3 lbs already is good, though! I'll keep you guys in my thoughts.
Amie, wow that is a wild range of numbers! I'm glad that the doc is happy with you just monitoring at home. Hope the numbers stay normal for you.
MrsTazlvr - Sorry to hear about your results. Hang in there. The last few weeks seem like forever but it really wont be long now. I see you are going to have a scheduled c-section too. I'm assuming you had one with your first. What was the reason? For myself, it was recommended because of the closeness of my pregnancies, I just had one almost exactly 1 year ago.
jasonsgal, I want to thank you for the iron supplement avdvice as well. I had my last dr appt on Monday and found out that I'm anemic. I've been very tired lately, but blamed it on being pregnant and having a young toddler. I also lost 5 pounds since my last appointment a month ago. So not only have I not gained any weight this pregnancy, I'm 5lbs lower than my pre-preggo weight. Dr. was a little concerned, but I'm a plump girl, so I've plenty of bodyfat still. I was put on Repliva iron supplements which is a perscription (and not covered by my insurance).
We had our hospital tour on Monday. The hospital is very small, but warm and friendly. They consider themselves to be a family birthing center and all babies room in with the parents. If it is a busy day, two mothers may have to room together and DHs cannot stay overnight at those times. Some people were very upset to hear this. Fortunately for me, c-section mamas always get private rooms with their own showers. Some of the other rooms dont have showers, so some have to use a shared shower room instead. The day after the baby is born, the hospital gives the parents a candle light dinner while the staff takes care of the baby. I thought that was a nice touch!
Forgot when my next appt is but it is in two weeks. At 36 weeks, I'll start the weekly visits.
Amie, I'm not very familiar with GD readings, but it looks like your fasting was in the normal range, 1st hour was high, 2nd hour was a little high, and the 3rd hour was low. Is that right? Normal is somewhere between 70 and 120ish? I could be very wrong since I'm going by what I remmber from MIL's diabetes readings. That is very strange indeed.
Cori - I am so sorry to hear about your GD results! I can't imagine how tough it is to deal with, but try and focus on the end result which is just around the corner. I hope you get the c-section date before the end of the year. Hang in there!
MrsPuls - OMG! That must be so scary. I had my pre-term episode at 29 weeks as well, but nothing as daunting as what you are experiencing. Please take care of yourself. Are you still in the hospital then? Will you be there until you deliver?
Amie - Those sure are strange levels. It sounds like just monitoring will be a good course of action though. I hope it works out for you.
sophonisba - Congrats on passing the 3 hour.
tsmom - That's interesting about the Cindy Crawford bras. Have you seen them online or in any stores? I would be curious to see what they look like. I think I am going to order a couple of those YES bras, and I have a few from bravado and babystyle that I like. Oh, I scored this weekend. I went to babystyle, and they were having a deal where if you spend $50 or more, you get $10 off, and had some babystyle bucks. On top of that they had a great deal on some majamas original nursing tops...they were only $22! So, I ended up getting 2 majama tops, one babystyle nursing top, and a cute regular maternity top to get me through all the holiday events we have coming in early December...for under $100!
So, I am about to lose it over work. I am more swampped than I have been all year, and this is a time when I should be winding down. Despite the fact that my doctor wanted me to scale back, I am working 12 plus hour days the last couple weeks, and have no one to hand my work over to. We are a small office and everyone is stretched. I really don't know how I am going to handle another month of this, unless my doctor takes me off and puts me on disability. I had to work until 7:00 last night, with a very demanding client and noticed that the last few hours I was having some strong contrax again. I honestly think it was from stress. I got home and laid down and drank water. This helped calm them down. I have a doctor's appointment today and we will see what she thinks.
I third the thank you on the iron supplement advice. I was put on it at my last appointment (also Repliva), but was not told to not take it with pre-natals. Roll eyes...
Just wanted to report that I went to my breastfeeding class last night and it was really good. I was pleasantly surprised about how informative it was. There was a great little film about newborns and then the nurse gave a 2+ hour talk. She was really funny and very matter of fact. Side note: she has 5 daughters...could you imagine?
So, if anyone was considering taking your hospital's BF class, I would do it. It was worth the $35 to me!
Wow, I've been kind of MIA lateley... I have been reading along though
Tsmom good luck with T and getting the crib situation worked out.
MrsTazlvr Sorry you feel so down right now. Sorry also about the GD... it is only a few more weeks, though I know it seems like forever! Hopefully they will fly by for you, and you'll have little Daniella to show for all your hard work!
MrsPuls So scary!! I'm glad they got everything to stop for you. Fortunately, we're all past the super critical point and anyone who comes a little early has a very good chance. I saw a little boy in my clinic a few weeks ago who was a twin born at 29 weeks (so he was really small). He had some problems (like opositional defiant disorder) but, mom was one of those crackhead losers that had her baby taken away at delivery. I know everything will be fine for your little one.
sophonisba and Amie Congrats on passing the 3 hr... close is still passing!!!
Lobeth Glad to hear about your hospital. That candlelight dinner does sound really nice! Our hospital lets you order from a special menu whenever you want (so you don't have to wait for regular mealtimes, and you can get extra for you or DH). They make such a big deal about this 'benefit'. I read on their website the other day that it's only available 7am to 7pm. :rolleyes: What if I give birth in the middle of the night????
yoganut I'm sorry to hear about your work pressures. Hopefully your doc has some ideas for you. If she can't put you on disability, maybe she can put you on work restriction? I hope it all works out :)
B-H Contrax: I don't know if I've had any of these yet. I haven't really felt anything new except baby hiccups in the belly region. Doesn't sound like I'm missing out on much though :p
Maternity/Nursing Bras: I got a couple Bravados back around 20wks when my regular ones wouldn't fit anymore. They are nice and comfortable, though the wide elastic strap at the bottom does roll sometimes. I would recommend getting a style that has the normal hook and eye closure instead of sports-bra style. It's hard to get on and off sometimes because of the way the cups overlap... I don't know what I'm trying to pull down! :) Because of this problem, I got a cheapo Target one (without underwire) that closes in the back. I don't think it's as comfortable as the Bravado because there's like a liner layer with a hole cut out for your boob and then the regular outer layer that you can snap off at the strap and fold down to feed. It's just kinda funny, like those booty boosters.
My last appointment was Monday, and all is well. I got some answers about how my doc likes to handle delivery (turns out to be very laid back, letting me make the non-critical decisions). Baby's doing well too. After my next appt on November 29, I start going every week. EEK! :eek:
I also just went to my first childbirth prep class... the instructor is an L&D RN at the hospital and was just ok. All she did was read from a power point... some pages she pretty much skipped saying "oh, that's not important". When people had questions, her standard response was "ask your Dr.". -sigh-. At the end we did the 'relaxation excercises'. The first was just deep breathing, but the second she made a huge deal out of because it seemed embarrasing to her. We (DH too) were supposed to get on hands and knees and practice panting or something... she thought that was just silly and told us to do it for homework. Ok, so this lady is supposed to make us comfortable with all the embarrasing things about childbirth... and she's making us feel uncomfortable about a breathing position?? I hope she's not on the shift when I give birth. Don't know if she'll be able to handle it :rolleyes:
Back from my appointment. Well, I told them about the strong contrax I have been having and how work has been really hectic, and without me even saying anything about it, she said that she wants to take me off of work starting now. I am shocked, but I really think it will be for the best. She said my cervix is soft, but what is a greater concern is me contracting heavily on my c-section scar and the adhesions they think I have. Apparently that combined with the fact that he is a big boy is putting my uterus under a lot of stress, so she wants me to be able to rest and drink a lot of water to keep the contrax in check. My next appointment is next Wednesday 11/23
I called my manager, who is a good friend and also pg and due at the same time. She was a little surprised, but said she was happy that I got to stop. She only works 3 days a week, and knew how difficult my workload has been for me lately. So, the doctor wants me home tomorrow and said I can go in on Friday to get things in order. I need to give my team some notes, sign up for next year's benefits, file some expenses, clean out email, etc.
I am thankful that I will now have the chance to focus more on my health and the baby, but it still feels weird nonetheless. Plus, it will suck to get a reduced income for another month, but oh well. At least it doesn't take away from my 8 weeks disability after the baby (and then CA has another type of child bonding disability they will pay for 6 weeks after that :) ). I am going to work on a report from home tomorrow, because I don't want to leave my team in the lurch, but it should be low key. Beyond that...I will be around here a lot I guess.
I've also been MIA lately!!
Not too much to report.
We had our first shower last Sunday. It was really great. My MIL threw it for us and had about 20 people there. My mom and best friend came as well.
Then yesterday, my work threw us a surprise shower!!! Wow - I was so overwhelmed!!! They really went all out. My male boss of 7 years and another male team member organized the entire thing!! I was floored. They both really got into it :) They had the conference room decorated, got an awesome cake and gave us incredible gifts. I was almost in tears when I opened the Canon Elph digital camera we wanted!! They also got us a 512mb sd card and the cutest onesie! Soo awesome!! I was really touched :)
I had a doctor's appointment last Saturday. I'm up 30 pounds, which they're not thrilled with since I'm plus size to begin with with! Portion control is not my strenght. The baby is still measuring big, so I'm going for another U/S on 11/28.
QOTD How long are you planning on working? I'm due on 1/1, so I'm going to try and work until Christmas. Then take the few days off in between Christmas and New Years as vacation. I don't get paid materinity leave, but I get 90 days FLMA, so that will start 1/3. I commute 4 hours a day - so I'm a little worried about getting stuck on the train in labor or something!! We'll see what my doctor says!
Hey ladies,
Had my appointment Wednesday not exciting or new. I will be scheduling my c-section on my next appointment Nov 28th
QOTD: Since I may be looking at induction the week of the 19th, I've asked to stop seeing patients that week until after the baby is born. I will probably come in at least a few times to make sure everything's in place for my absence (and to get extra $$) So, though I'm not technically due til Jan. 1, I'll be off a little early. Thank goodness for Christmas being tied up in this, huh?
terrys wifey I can't believe that in just over a week you'll know when your little one is coming!! It's really starting to hit me how soon we're all going to be parents... I'm just waiting for that nesting thing to kick in, I'm still feeling lazy :p
Hey ladies!
So here is my crazy story for the day. I've been trying to call around to ped offices and schedule meetings with the doctors there. I have one already set up for early Dec. and I called another doc today that my co-worker uses for her DD. She highly reccomended him. The receptionist was very nice but when I asked to set up a meeting she said that he charges $75!! just to meet you. What!? Has anyone else encountered this? I'm pretty much settled against him now because I feel that is a bit outrageous. The other office I am visiting doesn't do this. I just feel like if a doctor is so much about money that they can't take 30 min out of their day to meet with a prospective patient's parents without charging, that they are already not the kind of doctor I want my son going to. Oh well! Hopefully the first place will work out!
Jen309--Sorry your CB instructor wasn't very good. Hopefully she won't be around when you are having your baby.
yoganut--Hopefully the contractions will stop now that you are out of work.
Jackie&Tom--Glad you had some good showers.
terrys wifey--WOW!! I can't believe that you will be scheduling a c-section so soon. Things are really starting to move quickly!
KRL626--That is crazy that a doctor would charge $75 to meet with you. I wouldn't meet with him either because of that.
QOTD--I am planning on working up until I have the baby. I should be able to do this as long as I am comfortable sitting at my computer all day. It is about a 30 minute drive from my office to the hospital, so the commute is not an issue for me.
QOTD: How long are you planning on working?
I'm due on 1/18, so I just said I'd take off starting 1/16 which is a Monday. I figure I'll have enough laundry and stuff to keep me occupied if the little bugger is late. Like Jackie&Tom, I have a long commute (about 3.5 hrs per day total) so I will start working from home as soon as Xmas is over. That gives me about 3 weeks working from home until I am officially off!
I calculated the weeks off and realized that I'm not going to be back at work until the middle of April. WOW...I'm glad I stuck with my place of work for almost 6 years, because my entire 12 weeks off will be paid leave. I have the option to take up to 16 weeks, but those last 4 wouldn't be paid. No thanks...
I'm currently changing my job responsibilities so I can do less traveling. I can't bear to think of having to go to another state and leaving a baby at home. Luckily, my boss is pretty flexible and we're getting a new staff member who can probably take over my prior tasks...
Sounds like almost everyone had their showers already! I am still waiting till next weekend for ours. I can't wait, because after that's over, that means I can finally go shopping for more baby stuff!!!
Hope everyone is doing ok~! Grow, babies, grow!
I am exhausted... had my last final today and darn pregnancy brain had to go and ruin it!! My final was seven essay questions, and I felt so prepared going in. Well once I get to question #2, I realized I completely forgot to study a section of my notes - which that question was about!! So, I couldn't answer it. :( I was so upset with myself. I was able to answer the remaining questions, though. Hopefully it won't affect my grade too much - it's not like I'm going to fail the class or anything.
Anyway... on to better news... we're getting our 3D u/s tomorrow!!! :D I can't wait to see our baby girl! I'll scan and post a few of them tomorrow afternoon.
QOTD - Well since I go to grad school FT and I just finished finals, I guess the answer is NOW! :p Seriously... I'm off until the baby's born! Woohoo!
sophonisba9 - Congrats on passing the 3 hour test!
Amie - Sorry for the odd test results. Do you think you may have an issue with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)? Glad your doctor is happy with you just monitoring your sugar levels!
tsmom - Glad to hear you're almost finished with the remodel! I bet you're loving not living in a construction zone anymore. :)
MrsTazlvr - So sorry to hear about the 3 hour test. :( ((((HUGS)))) These next 6 weeks will fly by, though!
MrsPuls - OMG! I hope your little ones stay in for a little while longer!! Please keep us updated on how you're doing.
Lobeth - Glad your hospital tour went well! Sounds like a nice place!
yoganut - I'm really glad to hear your doc took you off work. Sounds like they were working you way too hard!! Hopefully, this will give you a chance to rest and keep that big boy in there for a little while longer.
Jen309 - Sounds like you got the shaft on the instructor. Haven't nurses seen/experienced just about everything? Why would she be so embarrassed??
Jackie&Tom - What awesome coworkers you have! Glad both of your showers went well!
KRL626 - That is crazy! I personally have not heard of peds doing this. I agree with you - sounds like he's all about the money.
MrsTazlvr - I see you are going to have a scheduled c-section too. I'm assuming you had one with your first. What was the reason?
DD was 9 lbs because of the GD so they think it's safer to do a repeat C-section. I have no problem with that. I don't want to deliver a 9+ lb baby vaginally. ;)
MrsPuls~Keep us posted. I will say a little prayer that your cuties stay in a while longer.
KRL626~I would not pay to meet with a Dr. either. How crazy.
yoganut~Enjoy the rest. Is R1 in daycare?
Everyone~ Thank you for the positive vibes. I am feeling better today. I met with the perinatologist and the nutritionist today. I started the GD diet although I have really been following it for a few weeks now. I have to take my blood sugars 4 times a day, but it's not that bad. It's only difficult because with a toddler at home it's hard to plan meals according to what I have to eat and when I have to eat. I am supposed to eat 3 meals a day and 3 snacks a day. And check my sugars first thing in the morning and then 2 hours after each meal. It's just a lot to remember to do while taking care of DD. I am sure it will be easy once I get in a groove. I feel like I am eating a lot though. Tonight I wasn't really even hungry, but I was supposed to have my evening snack. I'll have to ask if I HAVE to eat every meal I am supposed to.
They said that I will just control the GD with diet and see how I do the next few weeks. If I can control my sugars that way then I won't need insulin. I am praying that I can do this since if I end up on insulin I don't think I will be able to deliver before New Years like we had planned. I think I am picking a tentative C-section date on November 29th at my appointment with my OB. He is going out of town from Dec. 1-20th so he said we would set the date before he leaves and then his partners will monitor my sugars and make sure it's safe to deliver then. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)
We had our 3D u/s this morning! I swear this little girl is going to drive me insane! Apparently, she despises ultrasounds, since during 2 out of the 3 we've had now she's done her best to stay hidden from view. Today, she had her arms in front of her face and her chin tucked down. :rolleyes: We were able to get just a few shots, unfortunately. And, we're still not sure what she *really* looks like. I guess that'll be a surprise for us when she's born! We did check the sex again, though. She is definitely a GIRL - no doubt about it!! Which is good b/c I've been cutting tags off the clothes we got at our shower (doh!).
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Well, I've been MIA, lurking here and there. I've been busy working OT, going CRAZY nesting...yes, already! And, we just got back from dinner and seeing the new Harry Potter movie. Was nice to have a 'date night'...those will be few and far between once the baby arrives!
Yesterday I fell at work. Nothing to worry about---I basically fell over my own damn feet, just walking through the office! I landed on my hands & knees. I did twist my back slightly--and by the end of the day felt stiff & sore. Driving home sucked, I went right to bed when I got home. Today woke up and was feeling FINE. Nothing hurt in the baby area, otherwise I would have been seriously freaked out.
Here's something weird though, I wonder if anyone else is experiencing a decrease in appetite? The past week, I cannot eat as much at one sitting as I normally can. Even tonight, we ate dinner at Chili's--I just had a cheeseburger. Normally I can wolf the entire thing down, AND all the fries. Tonight I only ate half, and brought the other half and ALL the fries home. Past few nights before that, I had to like FORCE myself to eat a grilled cheese for dinner. I just have no appetite! I wonder why.
According to my last weigh-in at the doctor's, I've gained about 25 pounds so far. I guess it could be worse!
QOTD: Work: I will be working up until the baby comes...I don't have ANY extra time off to spare. Sadly we don't get maternity leave--I will have to use every bit of sick time and vacation that I have. Which will only add up to 4-5 weeks, and I want to take 2 months off. :( I may have to apply for advanced sick leave--which I would have to pay back. I'll be in the hole forever. But I can't see just taking 4 weeks off, esp. if I have a C-section!
So, I went into work and tied everything up...I am officially finished with work until April! I was feeling weird about leaving now because things have been so chaotic and busy, but I am really quite relieved. I was having a bunch of contractions on Friday, so it just reinforced that the ob is making the right call. Baby needs to stay put for another month.
I had my little family/very close friend shower today. It was so nice - an itimate group of 9 which felt just right since this is a second baby. We went to a patisserie in a really neat area and had afternoon tea. I got a nice mix of some necessities I really needed to replace (crib sheets, binkys, burp cloths, plus a second car seat base) and some nice little luxuries. My mom got us the PBK boppy and blanket with Rhys monogrammed, which was so sweet. I also got a bunch of outfits. We honestly have baby boy clothes coming out our ears, so I think I might exchange some of them for credit that we can use on a few other necessities we need. Most importantly, it was great to spend time with the special women in my life!
jules - What precious pictures of your baby girl! I am still so in awe of the technology. She looks like such as cutie.
Cori - I am glad you are feeling better. I hope the diet works well to regulate your sugars. I can appreciate how difficult it must be to plan your meals. I find it hard to make time to shop for, prepare and eat nutritious meals this pregnancy - and I don't even have the dietary restrictions. I hope it works out.
I hate to be a whiner, but I am really getting extremely uncomfortable. The last couple of days, I have had a hard time finding any position that I care to be in for long. Wah! [End of Pitty Party] :rolleyes:
I guess I've been a bit MIA lately, too. I'm doing Thanksgiving, so I've been spending most of my energy on that. I want to get as much done ahead of time as possible. This weekend I got the cleaning done (except for the last minute touch ups we'll have to do), shopping done, serving dishes organized, and the gravy made. Tonight I've got to do mashed potatoes. If all goes according to plan all I'll have to do is the turkey, carrots, and bake the rolls on Thursday. I get tired so easily these days that if I tried to do it all at once, I'd end up in bed napping while my family ate. :rolleyes:
yoganut, oh it must be so nice to be done with work already. Enjoy your time off.
chefker, I'm glad that your fall wasn't anything serious. I've had a decrease in appetite, too. I think there's just not enough room for my stomach anymore.
Jules, great pictures!
QOTD - Work My plan had been to work almost up until the baby's born. I'm due on a Tues, so I was going to work until that previous Friday. I'm getting so uncomfortable and miserable, already, though, I don't know if I'm going to make it. One of the worst parts is that we have to dress up for work. Professional maternity clothes (at least the ones I can afford) are not nearly as nice as my sweats. Unfortunately, my short term disability is only half pay, so if I do go out early, we'll be losing out on some money. I guess we'll see how I feel as the date gets closer.
I just got back from my ob appointment. Jack is still measuring 5 weeks ahead. I asked at what point we'd do an ultrasound to see what's going on. Doctor said 36 weeks as there isn't anything you could do about any potential results until then.
I picked up the crib and mattress this weekend, but they still aren't put together. Hopefully today is the end of DH's 14 hour days. We both need a break.
sophonisba9: i've been measuring ahead too, and my doc scheduled me for an ultrasound "whenever it's convenient for me." i'm convinced that a uterus measuring big is no big deal (a month ago, the u/s tech measured the baby and he was right on track), but i have a feeling that my doctor thinks i like doing the ultrasounds, and figures her office is going to get paid for them...i dunno. i really did like them at first, but doing too many worries me. has anyone read any studies that say too many ultrasounds are harmful for the baby?
yoganut: are you alison?? thanks so much for the virtual shower gift! just like terry's wifey:
I have been ordering like crazy lately and when I saw the box on my steps my DH was like what in the world have you ordered now? I was looking like :confused: I opened it and saw the order slip with your message and name.
that was SO my reaction!!!
Hey, ladies!
Yet another thread member who’s been horribly MIA lately. Between my work schedule and trying to get repairs started on my house (we had some trees crash through our roof during Katrina), I have been so busy. It’s exhausting!
Still living with my parents, and I don’t think we’ll be able to move back into our house until after the baby is born. Which is bumming me out, but what can you do, right? Katrina definitely threw a wrench into my plans. Our contractor anticipates we’ll be back in our house in January, so I’m hoping the repairs won’t take any longer than that.
I’m feeling pretty good, despite the fact that I’m having a hard time moving around these days. Turning over in bed in the middle of the night is a major production, as is hauling myself out of bed to go the bathroom. And if I sit down on the floor – forget it! I need a crane to get up, I swear! It’s not that big a deal, though, and my only real discomfort is rib pain, which has gotten pretty bad. It’s only on my right side, and the pain usually extends from the front of my ribcage into my back. If I weren’t pregnant, I would honestly think I had broken a rib. It is BAD, y’all, and it had me in tears the other night. I’m hoping this baby will drop, and I’ll get some relief in the next few weeks. Seriously, it’s tender to the touch and feels like a big, giant bruise.
It absolutely blows my mind that I’ll be full term in less than three weeks. I feel so behind! I haven’t even had my shower yet! It was supposed to happen at the end of October, but with everything going on around here after Katrina, it just wasn’t good timing. So my shower is Dec. 10. We’re holding out on buying a lot of stuff until after the shower, but the closer I get, the more nervous I get. It really bothers me that I’m not ready for this baby yet! I guess it will all come together in the end. I hope.
Work. I will be working as long as I can. The baby is due Dec. 29, and I imagine I’ll work until….well, until I can’t anymore. I’m going to be a SAHM after the baby is born, so I feel like I need to get as much work time in as possible.
Guess that’s all from me. I have an OB appointment this afternoon, and I’m hoping I haven’t gained a ton of weight over the past two weeks.
Hope y’all are feeling well!
-Betsy
jjohm, I don't think there's been proven any sort of link between frequent u/s's and harm to the baby. I'm high risk, and I've probably had 20 u/s's so far this pregnancy. Maybe more.
jjohm - You're welcome! I glad it got to you so quickly :D (Yes, my name IRL is Alison.) Oh, and like Betsy said, I haven't heard of any link between frequent u/s and problems with the baby. I have probably had at least 10 this pg. :rolleyes:
Betsy - Oh, that stinks that you won't be in your house until January. One of my best friends lives in Biloxi, and said that the home repairs are going slowly because all of the reputable contractors are stretched thin. I hear ya on requiring a crane to get up off the floor. I went to answer the phone earlier when DH called, and apparently sounded out of breath. He asked, what were you doing? Um, hoisting my big belly off the couch!
So, we went to BRU yesterday and bought the rest of what we really needed. Spent $120 plus a $60 credit - but at least its done. I figured out that about $70 was diapers and wipes for both of the boys. Man, I sure hope R1 figures out potty training soon, so that we don't continue to break the bank in diapers. Now, whe I feel up to it, I need to organize all this stuff. Our place is on the small side, so if I don't organize the place seems like a mess. Too bad our little dresser isn't going to be ready for 2 more weeks!
Hi Ladies!
Betsy - I just read yesterday that silky pajamas (and even better - a sheet too) can help you with turning over more easily in your sleep.
I tried the pj's and it helped (maybe it was just a good night, maybe it was the pj's, not sure?)
I've been quite uncomfortable for the last couple weeks. Today my hips are killing me!! I wonder if the baby is dropping? I think I'm early for that though.
sophonisba9 - We are measuring at least 3 weeks ahead. I'm going for my 2nd follow up ultrasound on Monday. Have not talked to my ob about what they will want to do - I'm assuming not let me go past my due date?
What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving
I'll be stopping by my in-laws on Thursday for a little while.
On Friday - we're having my in-laws, my mom, brother, his gf and my grandpa for dinner. My mom is making a lot of the food. She doesn't want me to do too much! :)
re QOTD: I hope to work as close to my c-section date as possible. Maybe take 1 day before off to tie up loose ends. DD was born on a Saturday and I worked the Friday before. Everyone told me that the baby would be born that weekend because of the full moon, but I did not believe them, but sure enough, she was born that Saturday (exactly 1 week before her due date)!
JJohm- Do you work in DC? I live in So. MD but work in DC so I can take up to 16 weeks off too. Unfortunately I don't have enough leave to cover the full 16 weeks since I was on maternity leave earlier this year. My company will pay for 2 weeks, STD will pay 70% of my salary for 6 weeks (due to cs, otherwise it would be 4 weeks). I can use my own leave for the other 30% so my pay will remain the same. I would then have to use my leave for anytime after that. So I probably will only take 8-9 weeks off this time around. With DD, I went back after 11 weeks.
Chefker-my appetite has decreased as well, in fact, I've lost weight. That may have been due to my low iron also. I would fall asleep before eating dinner! I've been trying to eat more since this is when the baby is putting on weight (I think). DH told me not to starve his son. That made me feel really guilty. I'm already plump so I doubt that the baby is starving! I have plenty reserves!
jules1025- Your dd is adorable! I love the 3D pics!
MrsTazlvr- A 9 pounder? I fully understand! Was the c-section done early? So you may have your baby by the end of next month! Wow!
Betsy-I was living with MIL last year when DD was born. We were waiting for our house to finish being built. I was soo upset that I could not put together a nursery like everyone else. DH did not understand what the big deal was. We ended up making a makeshift nursery area in MIL home, but it was not quite the same. Hopefully you can think this time as extended nursery planning time. While I was waiting, I continued to research nursery ideas and bought a bunch of decorating stuff from eBay, so that helped me feel like I was doing something constructive for the future nursery. I do have to admit that even though we are in our new home, and the nursery is done, DD still sleeps in our bedroom!
Re rolling over in bed: That is a ton of effort for me too. I have to sit up(which hurts the most...there are some ligaments in the uh, loin area that are very tender), get up, turn around and lay down again. I hate picking up anything off the floor.
Jackie&Tom - Silky PJs huh? The only silky stuff I have is from my bridal shower. I might have a nightgown that might work though. Thanks for the tip!
For Thanksgiving, we are going to my birth family's home (I'm adopted). They have a huge get-together with a ton of food, especially macaroni and cheese, my favorite! I'm looking forward to that! I bet I'll find my appetite then! Plus, I want to alert everyone there nicely that we are not doing gifts this year since we have to get ready for the baby. Hopefully they'll be understanding.
Talk to you all later!
terrys wifey - You are so welcome!! I am glad that it got there so quickly!! I have to say that it is one of those things that I was so thankful for in the middle of the night!!
Yoga - glad that you are taking it easy and getting some rest. So Jealous that you guys are all set...Have not even thought about what we still need..... Ya know it was not Cindy Crawford who did the new bras, and now I cannot think of who it was to save my life. It was in last months In Style, I will look again when I get home. TOTALLY with you on T getting potty trained soon!! Diapers are way to expensive!
Jules - Love the pix of the baby!!! I wish that I could get a 4d done... Thanks for asking the house is coming and along and while I don't think that we will every be "done" it is livable now!!
Work - Gonna try and make it as long as possible! We don't have any maternity leave here so the longer I can stay the better off we will be. Plus I make 100% commission so if I am not here I dont make any $.
Chefker - Glad that you are ok after your fall! That would be very
scary!
Feeling OK here just really big and a bit uncomfortable. We still have not really done anything to get ready for "brother" but I am sure after the holidays things will really start rolling. Going to see if I can get T a baby doll so we can start preparing her for his arrival!
Have a dr appt on 11/30
Hey Guys,
Well, I wish I had better news. My BP was high and I had protein in my urine today at my appt. She almost sent me to L&D for monitoring but it finally went down a bit. Our baby's room is finally getting organized! We went to Ikea this weekend and spent WAY too much money, but it was needed. We still have a few more things to buy for the room, but I'm so glad we're almost done!
Now that school's out I can finally focus on getting things ready for our baby girl. I've got two consults set up with possible pediatricians. I'll be glad to have a doctor chosen soon. We STILL need to decide which hospital to deliver at, and that won't be decided until mid-December. Oh well.
yoganut - Yay for being done with work! Hope you get some much needed R&R before the baby gets here! Glad your shower went well and you got a lot of necessities. :)
elladee - Hope your Thanksgiving with family goes well!
Betsy - I hear ya about having difficulty moving around! I've been having trouble getting off the couch on my own lately!
Amie - Oh no! I hope everything is ok! I'll keep you and Sam in my thoughts. Please update us when you have some time!
decrease in appetite - Yes, I've been feeling a lot less hungry lately. I've also been eating less at meals. If I eat too much, I get bad heartburn. :(
Thanksgiving - We're spending Thanksgiving day at my Aunt's house with my Dad's family, and traveling to Kerrville on Friday to spend the weekend with MIL's family.
Aime, I hope everything is ok when you go back to L&D today.
jules, congrats on the progress of your nursery! And congrats on being done with school!
Betsy, sorry to hear that your house isn't going to be quite ready. Are your parents the helpful types? It might actually be nice to have them around in the begining. Maybe you can gets some extra naps here and there.
Night is no fun for me, either. I can't stay in one position too long. Instead of just flopping around while mostly asleep, I have to fully wake up so I can shove at DH for a while. See, the weather turned cold, and I apparently make an excellent heater. So when I wake up, DH has various arms and legs thrown over me and I'm trapped. Once I finally get him to move and get myself situated, I'm in so much pain that I can't fall back asleep. :rolleyes:
Amie--I hope everything went ok this morning.
jules--Congrats on getting a bunch done on the nursery.
Thanksgiving--We are leaving tomorrow night to stay with my parents for the long Thanksgiving weekend. For Thanksgiving Day, DH and I will do Thanksgiving with both of our families. It works out really well. DH's family does Thanksgiving dinner around noon about an hour away from my parents house. We then go back to my parents for our second Thanksgiving dinner around 6pm. We are both going to be stuffed by the end of the day. :D
I was at the IL's house this past weekend. FIL is making good progress on the crib. I think he should have it done by the time the baby arrives, which isn't totally necessary since we will be using the co-sleeper at first. We also picked up the co-sleeper this weekend from SIL. I didn't realize how big the co-sleeper is. I think we have just enough room next to the bed for it.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
Amie I'm thinking about you and little Sam and hoping all is well.
Jules Yay on being done with school and being able to devote more things to getting ready for your little girl! I love my job, but I cannot wait to be on maternity leave!
I had my OB appt. today. All is well. She won't check to see if Jeremiah is head down until 36 weeks because she says he can still flip around up until then and doesn't want to reassure me too early or get me worried before I need to be. Next time I go I have to get the Group B strep test :( Not looking forward to that. The best news was that my OB delivers all of her babies unless she's on vacation. That is pretty uncommon in NYC. However she is going on vacation Jan 14th. I said, "Well he better be here by then". She told me she thought I would likely go early and not to worry about it. She also prescribed lots of sex! Umm, hmm I'm going to have to psyche myself up for that. :rolleyes: She said if I go into labor at any point after now that they will not try and stop it and just let me deliver. So that's a nice relief. Anyway, my next appt. is in 2 weeks, Dec 6 Then I start going every week!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone if I'm not on here again before! You all are the best!
I have my ob appointment tomorrow at 4:30, and we just realized that daycare is closed tomorrow so I will have to bring DS with me. Should be interesting, because he is at the age where he is into everything. I also don't know if my doctor will give us sign off on going down to San Diego for Thanksgiving. I suspect it will depend on whether I am dialating or not. Hmmm...we shall see. At this point, I am fine either way.
Hey ladies,
I am off from work today until Monday :D I'm on my way out of the door so my mom and I can pick up some things for my shower :rolleyes:
Appetite: Mine is pretty much the same although I am craving more sweets now which sucks since I have GD butI manage to sooth the sweet tooth with sugar free goodies.
Thanksgiving: We will be staying at home, DH is cooking this year and I am just going to rest. This was our year to go to my in laws in Virginia Beach but I am in no mood to travel especially since I am experiencing swelling in my ankles now.
My hips are killing me and it is extremely hard to get out of bed. Last night DH had to literally assist me out of the bed it was so funny I felt like a whale!!!
We got our crib together last night and I set up the bedding too. It looks soooo cute. DH went in to the nursery to take a look a couple of times last night and this morning before he went to work.
I tried posting a picture, but it wouldn't post. Any suggestions?
ETA: For Thanksgiving, we're just going to the home of parents of a friend of mine. My appetite is about the same as it has been for months, small. I was talking to my MIL last night and she recommended that I graze all day long, otherwise I wouldn't get to sample all the dishes. I'll still probably throw up, but what the heck! Everything is going to taste so good.
Betsy- I'm sorry your house still needs work. A friend of mine lives south of the quarter and half of the back of her house was torn off. She and her sister are living in the undamaged side which was a rental unit. I can't imagine not being able to get started on the baby's room.
Working- I'm going to be a SAHM after Jack arrives and at the moment I'm out of work so I'm just trying rest and get the house sorted. It looks like the temp agancy that I was working for has an assignment for me over Christmas so that will probably be my last hurrah.
Yoga - I had to take T to my first appt and oh boy did she have a great time. The roller stool provided the most entertainment. When the Dr. actually arrived she was an angel it was just the 30 minute wait that was rough. Hope the dvd player works :)
Terry's Wife - Enjoy your quiet turkey day at home!!! Relaxing sounds fantastic! I am getting a bit swollen as well. Put your feet up and drink lots of water!
sophonisba9 - Congrats on getting your crib together and how cute of your dh going in there several times to see it :)!
My DH surprised me with a spa trip last night after work. Things have been really really crazy around here lately. It was so sweet of him, I got a milk bath and a pg massage. It was nice and relaxing which was good. He planned with my BF so she went with me too! He has had his hands full as well and could use some relaxing as well.
The IL's fly in today for the weekend, we are cooking this year and have another couple coming over so it should be nice. Have some major family problems happen this am and it looks like we might take our nephew for a week or so (he is 3). He is a great kid and it would be nice to see him but sure it will add to the stress....
Hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving!! I know that I have so much to be thankful for and I should say it more often!!!
sophonisba - That's great about getting the room set up. I hope you feel well enough for Thanksgiving to enjoy the meal.
Amie - I am glad your bp looks better and you got the sign off to travel. Enjoy!
Tsmom - Wow, your DH sounds like a saint for planning a spa day for you! I wish my DH would do something like that. How nice!
I had my appt, and unfortunately am restricted to local travel now, but that's OK. I spoke with my dad, and he and his wife are going to come up here tomorrow. I made a dinner reservation so that we wouldn't have to deal with menu planning, shopping and cooking at the last minute.
Baby boy #2 is still measuring big, so nothing has changed. She did a few quick measurements via u/s and she thinks he is over 7 lbs at this point (showed up at 37w4d on the machine's estimate)! I actually lost an lb, so it looks like he is sucking the weight off of me at this point...hey, I don't have to feel guilty about having seconds tomorrow, right? My ob said that she is pretty certain I will go into labor on my own before 39 weeks, and we will just do the c/s at that point. So funny, but my mom and DH are like, "when do you think the baby will come?" I really have no clue. Last time it was a scheduled c/s, so I think they are both hoping it will be nice and convenient like that again. I reminded them that babies tend to come on their own timetables (despite what ob's predict or parents want) :rolleyes:
BTW- DS did awesome at the doctor's office. I didn't bring a DVD, but it was fine. I think he was so shocked being in a different environment, that was entertainment enough. He was so cute in the u/s room, and when the ob went to do the u/s he took a couple steps backwards because he was surprised. ;)
Amie- Glad you got the green light to travel!
tsmom- You are very welcome! I'm glad you liked it. :) Ahh, the spa! I have been hinting to DH I would like a spa day as a post-partum gift.
yoganut- Wow, your little guy is a big boy! Glad your DS did fine during the u/s.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I was semi-MIA from the computer for a little while--my parents stayed over Wednesday & Thursday night (we all ate T-day dinner over my IL's house).
Friday was a day off and hit BRU with mom. I wanted to go to Nordstrom after to do some shopping, but one look at the parking lot there and I was all set! Fortunately BRU was fine. Mom bought the baby bedding off my registry...I will pretend to be surprised when I open it at the shower! :)
As for PG stuff--all of a sudden I feel HUGE! It's like I popped out all at once. My next u/s is on 12/13, so we will find out how big baby is then. And, I don't know if this is a PG thing, or just because we turned on the heat, but my skin is SUPER itchy lately! Aveeno bath for me tonight. Other than that, feeling OK but extra tired.
We may have changed our minds AGAIN on a baby name! Initially our top two contenders were Harrison James, or Jack William. I was discussing names again with DH and mentioned how I liked Ian. To my surprise, DH agreed! And it goes well with our last name...so maybe it'll end up being Ian James! We are going to keep THIS name under wraps from family & friends though. Funny how we thought we had the names all ironed out, and this one just popped into mind all of a sudden!
I'm sad the weekend is almost over. We spend Friday shopping for baby stuff. I had some things I needed to exchange and we also had a gift check to spend from our shower. I also went on a laundry frenzy and washed all of Jeremiah's newborn clothes, blankets, burp cloths, towels etc... Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. So sad that the long weekend is over!!
I had my appt on Wed & everything is still going smoothly. My OB is due in Dec so the chances that she will actually deliver this baby are pretty slim :(
I had an OB appointment last Wednesday. Everything is still looking good. My next appointment is on 12/7. I really hope that labor is somewhat hereditary. I asked my mom how her labors were with me and my sisters. She said that she didn't have any type of pain medication for them and they weren't too bad.
QOTD: Is anyone else starting to get stressed out with Christmas and your due date just around the corner? I feel like there is so much to get done and no time to do it. I only have two free weekends until Christmas due to having an early Christmas (on the weekend of the 17th) with DH's family. I told my parents a few weeks ago that DH and I weren't coming down for Christmas since it is within a month of my due date. Part of me was hoping that they wouldn't want to come to us for Christmas, so I wouldn't have to worry about Christmas dinner and cleaning the house. I will enjoy having my family around for Christmas, but now I am stressing about getting things done.
catandmouse--Glad you had a good appointment.
jasonsgal--Yay for a great shower.
KRL626--Wow, I don't even have most of the things that you washed already. You sound so organized.
chefker--I really like the name Ian James.
Chefker - I sent you a PM ---- Love the name Ian James.... "brother" will have James as one of his middle names and Dh and I are still going back and forth about his first name.. We actually have not talked about it too much but Drake and Reece are still in the top 2 spots.
Yoga - ya know what it was not Cindy Crawford who did the bras but for the life of me I cannot think of it - I will check the In Style when I get home. Sorry you had to stay local for Turkey day but is sounds like it worked out well for you guys!
Jasonsgal - Welcome home!!! Glad that you had a good time away and at your shower.
Amie - How are you feeling? Keep drinking those fluids!
Had a bit of family drama so Dh and I have our 3 1/2 year old nephew for this week... He is the sweetest thing in the world and T is just in love with him. We will take him to the IL's on Wed when Dh and I are off to Napa for a fun weekend. I cannot wait - now if only I could taste that lovely wine!
Hey Ladies!
Well, after a 24-hour stomach bug, I'm on the mend. Gosh that was bad!
I never did really update after my appt. last week since I was so freaked about the blood pressure (which has been fine ever since)...
Belly is measuring a week ahead
Total weight gain: 4 pounds :D
HB was nice and strong
Next appt. is Wednesday, Dec. 7 (I'm going today to get my BP checked but that's for my regular appt.)
Here is a 32-week belly shot:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/mrsrittler/32weeks.jpg
I'm almost totally done with the nursery and will post those pictures later.
QOTD: I'm really just ready for Christmas to be here since that means it will be that much closer to meeting Sam! I swear January is going to d-r-a-g! I'm doing most of my shopping online so that will help.
SO's will have to come later, I'm headed back to bed!
I guess it's about time for a real post... the list of shout outs required keeps growing longer and longer...
Had my second shower last Friday. It was fun. I got a bunch of clothes, but all practical sleepers. No frilly dresses. I'm totally shocked at that. On Sunday DH and I bought a changing table and then last night I got plastic shelves to act as a dresser. I did my first load of baby clothes and got them put away last night. It's so weird to see things getting set up and ready for this girl. Only 8 weeks to go...
************************************************** *
Amie, cute picture! I'm glad you got over the bug and things are looking better with your BP. I've been dreading January, too. I'm sure the next month will absolutely fly by. But then January has always been slow to begin with.
tsmom, Have fun in Napa!
meggers - Christmas QOTD, I was getting stressed until I decided that I just couldn't do it all this year. No tree for us, and I'm not going to do nearly as much baking as I wanted to. I'm sure people will understand. I hope you can figure something out.
jasonsgal, you're welcome! I had fun shopping.
KRL626, wow, only 4 weeks of work left. That's nuts. Now that I think about it, I only have 7. Holy cow, these babies are coming soon!
chefker, I love the name Ian. It would have been one of my picks if we were having a boy.
yoganut, wow you've got a big guy! Too funny about your DH and mom wanting to know exactly when the baby's coming.
tsmom, what a wonderful DH you have! A spa trip sounds lovely.
sophonisba9, congrats on getting the crib set up.
QOTD: Christmas... yes, I feel the stress building. We always go to MI for Christmas, but not this year :( Hopefully some of my family will come to us! (8hr drive). I just can't risk being away then... We did get the tree set up already; I just need to finish putting out the rest of the stuff, like the Dept 56, etc. I'm not so worried about getting it out as I am putting it all away!! Hopefully the baby will be here before it's time to take it all down, looks like it will be a job for DH. I do have about a hundred other things to take care of, like wrapping up work stuff and shipping gifts (which I've never had to do before). UGH!
I've got a Dr. appt today... I'm a little excited about this one since they'll be doing a strep-B culture...I'm hoping while the dr is 'down there' he can give me an update on the, um, 'conditions', if you know what I mean :p
A special s/o to jjohm, my virtual baby gift was wonderful!
I've got to get back to work, so more s/o later!
Hi Ladies!
Had my 35 week dr. appointment last night and the Strep B test. She didn't do an internal, so I guess that will start next week.
Yesterday morning I had a follow up ultrasound for growth.
The U/S tech was BRUTAL! I've had this woman before and didn't care for her. They took me 30 minutes late, then I had this woman and a student. FUN! I was in there for over an hour and she hurt me, bad! The baby's head is pretty low (where I have lots of extra flab to begin with), so she was jamming the u/s reader into my stomach, for 30 straight minutes. Then she complained she hurt her shoulder! Boo Hoo! Imagine the pain you're caused my stomach!
I mentioned it at my dr's appointment last night and the dr. said it happens sometimes. But the pain is getting worse. I think she mainly bruised my insides!
But, based on the u/s, he's measuring December 10th!! That's less than two weeks away! And he's HUGE!!! That I'm a little afraid of.
We'll see where nature brings us! Ok, done whining. Just had to vent!
And Jen309...I sent you a PM, but thank you soo much for my shower gift!!!!
Had a nice T-day and weekend. We went to MIL's house for the long weekend, and I was so glad to come home on Sunday. My MIL is a nice lady, but we are so different and I can only handle her for so long. DH and I decided on the way home that we'd only make two weekend trips a year to her house. (Woohoo!)
I thought I'd have all this time once the school quarter was over, but I have been so busy! I'm almost halfway finished with christmas shopping (all online), and I've been trying to get the house and nursery organized. I have a meeting with a possible pediatrician this afternoon, and we are going to our CB class tonight. This weekend we are focusing on getting the nursery completed, decorating for christmas (tree and outside lights, too), and touring one of the hospitals.
-----------------------------
tsmom - How nice of your DH to get you a spa trip! That sounds like heaven right now! Hope you have a great weekend in Napa!
chefker - I love the name Ian! That was one of our boy name picks. :) And, James is my DH's name, so I love that too!
KRL - woohoo for only 4 more weeks of work!
meggers - That would be nice if you had a labor just like your Mom's! Unfortunately, I wish the reverse... my mom and all of my aunts on both sides of my family had c-sections!!!
Amie - Sorry to hear about your stomach bug. Glad you are feeling better! Great belly shot!
elladee - Glad your second shower went well! Looks like you're set on clothes for a while now!
Jackie&Tom - Sorry you had a horrible u/s experience! I hope you are ok and not bruised internally. Wow - I can't believe you're measuring so far ahead!! You could be our first Jan momma to have her baby!
QOTD - stressing with Christmas - Yes, I'm stressed! We only have ONE free weekend to devote to preparing for the baby before Christmas and that is this coming weekend. We have so much stuff to do this weekend that DH is taking off work on Friday so we can get everything done! We are hosting a christmas party at our house on Dec. 10th, and we have an early christmas with MIL's family at our house on Dec. 17th. I think I've gone crazy believing I could host two christmas parties at my house while 8 months pg!!
Hey Ladies,
Had my appointment yesterday with u/s confirmed again that it's a girl. Whew! so now I can start taking the bedding out of the plastic and get to decorating. Right now the u/s tech which I can't stand said that the baby is weighing at 5 lbs 6 oz and I still have 4 weeks to go. My doctor wrote up the paperwork for the schedule c-section he requested the 28th so we'll see.
The kids rooms are painted the carpet was cleaned Sunday so we're pretty much done. My baby shower is Saturday and I can't wait!
My next appointment is 12/12/05
Chefker-Ian James is a great name! I especially love the name Ian. I wish DH would give me a clue as to what he is naming this baby! What was I thinking when I told him he could name the baby? I thought I'd get veto approval, but DH is keeping the name under wraps (even from me!) until the baby is here.
catandmouse-Sorry you may not get your OB for your delivery. Do you have any idea who might deliver for you?
meggers-re QOTD re Christmas: we'll put up a tree, but I'm not doing gifts for the extended family. Heck, my hubby will be lucky if he gets anything! I just don’t have the extra funds and I am still paying for things I bought people last Christmas.
Amie - You look absolutely wonderful! I'm glad you are doing better!
elladee- Those sleepers are more practical than frilly dresses, and will be used way more often. Of course frilly dresses are too cute, but your little girl may not wear them much. In fact, I still have a few dresses that dd never wore.
Jen309- you are the first person I've seen excited to have a culture! But I know what you mean. I had my appt yesterday and wanted to know what position the baby was in. Doc told me it did not matter since I was having a c-section. I was a bit disappointed that he would not check.
Jackie&Tom-What kind of tech is that? And to complain that she hurt her shoulder? Sorry she was so rough. But December 10? That's like next week! Wow!
jules1025- It looks as if you got a lot on your plate! Hang in there and take it easy if possible.
terrys wifey, MrsTazlvr: I guess I'm in good company because I had my appt yesterday as well. My c-section has been scheduled for Friday, December 30!!! I am freaking out! I'm so not ready. I have so much stuff I need to buy. Mostly basics that I should have bought earlier, like diapers, receiving blankets, crib sheets, etc., but I thought I had plenty of time! There is so much I need to do...dd is still sleeping in our room (and still getting up at least once in the night). I was hoping that I'd break her out of that habit before her brother came, but it does not look as if that will happen. I still have to figure out who will watch her when I go into the hospital! So much to do and so little time! Are you guys ready?
c/s dates - So wild that those of us with scheduled c/s are having dates set. My tentative date is December 20, providing this guy decides to stay put until then. I am happy with it, as it is before Christmas and I will get out of the hospital on Christmas Eve. Looks like I have a date with my new little guy (and Vicoden) for Christmas :D
Cori - I am so happy for you, that your doctor is going to do your c/s before the new year! Just what you wanted.
Amie - You look fantastic! You definitely have the preggo glow going on!
meggers - Christmas - Our family is downscaling the shopping a bit this year, which I am thankful for. My brother got married recently, and says funds are tight - and we are now looking at a bit less income with me on extended disability. So, we all drew a name, and are going to buy one nice gift for that person. Aside from that, I need to shop for DH and Rowan. My mom was a sweetie and put up our tree for us yesterday, so at least the decorating is done.
jackie&tom- I can't believe that the tech was so rude. I am glad to hear that the baby looks good - and there is another big boy in our group!
elladee - Glad to hear you had a great shower!
jen - I hope you had a good appt. and can't wait to hear if you made any 'progress.'
tsmom- Have a great time in Napa!!
jules - Take it easy and try not to overdo it. I know how tempting it is!
Despite the fact that I am supposed to be resting a lot, I got a huge nesting urge this weekend and emptied out 2 Rubbermaid bins of baby clothes my mom had washed and got the nursery further organized. At least it is done now...I feel ready. (Though I want to get as much sleep as possible. I know that it will be in very short supply soon - am not looking forward to that :rolleyes: )
Lobeth- While I am feeling pretty ready in terms of gear/stuff, I am still freaking out about how it is all going to impact Rowan. We have a tentative plan for my mom to be taking care of him when I go in for the c/s, but I keep worrying about what happens if I go into labor early (my mom is 2 1/2 hours away). DS just started sleeping in a bed a month ago, but still wakes up at 4am like clockwork and wants to come into the bed with us. We only have a queen size, so it is going to be very crowded in there soon. Then, I get worried that he is going to be 'mad' at me or hurt or something because of less attention. :(
MrsTaz, Lobeth, terry's wifey and yoganut Congrats on scheduling your c/s's and they are coming so soon!
I don't want to have a c/s at all, but I have to say it must be really nice to have a date set when you know all of this waiting will be over! :) I remember counting down to my wedding and that was great because I knew that that was the day. This is harder because I have the 9th ingrained in my head and yet he could decide to come later than that! (earlier would be fine) Aahhh!!!!:o
Congrats on setting a date (and Yoga and terrys wifey). I feel like I have so much to do since we are still turning the office into a nursery. There is still a lot to move out of the room. And painting to do since there is still damage from Hurricane Wilma on the walls and carpet. But I did wash all of the clothes, towels, sheets (which I just bought on Sunday), etc. this weekend. I plan on packing my hospital bag tonight if I can get the energy up.
What's really helping me is that I made a list of what needs to be done and I have spread the tasks out on my Outlook calendar. It's easier when you aren't facing all the tasks at once. Of course thrown into the middle of this is DD's 2nd B-day and her B-day party (I am sure Yoga can relate. ;) )
Hal will have to be with Allie for New Years Eve and I will be with Daniella. I should be getting out on New Years Day. I am glad they scheduled my c-section in 2005. Now the big question when I go to the perinatologist tomorrow is if I need an amnio to determine Daniella's lung development because of the GD. I REALLY don't want an amnio so hopefully she won't make me get one. :(
ChefKer- I sent a pm :)
Yoga - totally understand the way you feel about R1. I am going through the same thing. I am so worried that T will no longer be the queen and boy is she. I just worry how she will react. I guess all we can do is hope for the best. She is still in her crib and really shows no sign of wanting out. I really want her out by the time "brother" comes. As it is lately..... she has been waking up several times a night which is new for her.
Travel - I am hoping that I can sneak away for the weekend on Jan 7th - I want to go visit my bf up north... but I will be 37w... It is only an hour flight so really is no big deal but I will check to see what my dr. has to say!
Cannot belive that so many of you have your c/s scheduled already! Congrats.....
Xmas - Feeling majorly stressed already! I am going to try and do as much as I can online but that never seems to work out. I still have not done anything to get ready for the baby yet. I really need to get on it... I have bought a few cute clothes but need some gear ( monitors etc)..
We still have my nephew and he is such a doll! I just love him! Thanks Napa will be great!
I feel the same way. We were just discussing what we are going to do with Allie while I am in the hospital. I hope she adjusts well when Daniella comes. She will be going to school on the day I am having Daniella and the day after. I hope she does OK because it's winter break and not her normal class. The 2 weeks before New Years they don't have regular classes, they combine classes and have different teachers. I hope that doesn't throw Allie off too much. And I worry about what she will do without me being home for 4 days. And I wonder how Daniella coming home will impact her. We are getting Allie a bedroom set this weekend so hopefully she will be adjusted to that before Daniella comes. So much to worry about when you are on #2. ;)
Hi everyone, I've been MIA lately although I do read everyday. I just never have time to post.
I want to say congrats to Terrys Wify, Yoganut, MrsTazlvr and Lobeth on having their C-sections scheduled! How exciting that it is getting so close!
I had an OB appt today and everything looks great. My b/p was great considering it usually gets high around this time. I didn't gain any weight since last appt so my total weight gain is 10 lbs, ecstatic about that! :D I'm measuring right on so supposedly he shouldn't be big but everyone keeps asking me if I'm having twins or if I'm due any day now. :rolleyes: They are surprised when I tell them I have about a month left. I go back in two weeks and then I start going every week and also start getting checked. I'm so excited for that.
Jen309~ I had to laugh when I read your post about being excited for your culture. At first I thought does she know what they do when they do a culture? LOL Then I read the rest of your sentence and realized why you were excited. I was hoping to have it done today too to see if she would check me but I guess I'll wait until next appt.
I am so behind on S/O's that I don't think I can catch up. Congrats to all of you who have had your showers and are about to have them. It's so much fun getting all that stuff but it sucks trying to put it all away. I'm kind of glad we didn't have one because I wouldn't have any room to put anything.
We finally made some progress last weekend to get ready for this baby. We bought a crib that has a changing table and some dresser drawers attached to it. I love it since this baby will be sharing a room with DD and their room is extremely small. Their is no way we could fit two cribs, two dressers and a changing table in there so it's nice to have a 3 in 1 combo to save room. Even though I've washed all the clothes I have so far I still haven't put it away. I need to go through it to see what I have in what sizes since I have no clue. A lot of the clothes I was able to use of DS#2 so that's nice. I still have his bedding so I can save money there too.
QOTD- Christmas~ I am SO getting stressed out over Christmas. I actually cashed in some stock at work so I'm not stressed about money but just going out to the store and looking for gifts. We have so many people to buy for and I have no clue what to get anyone. I still haven't put up my Christmas tree which my goal is to do this weekend, along with a billion other things. :rolleyes: I have no energy to do anything either.
I feel for all of you that are getting your first child ready for #2. I have two little ones that I'm worried about. My 3 yr old I'm not so worried about since he's been through this already and adapted very well. But my DD will be 18 mos when he arrives and I'm not sure how she is going to react. They both sleep fairly well at night but they do still get up occassionally. All I know is if they keep doing it once he is here my DH better be the one getting up with them since I know I will be getting up with baby all the time!
Nothing really new with me. I also got over the stomach flu for the 2nd time this pgcy about a week ago. Thank gawd it only lasted about 8 hours this time instead of a week and a half. I've been very uncomfortable when he moves lately, I think he has run out of room and it just feels like he's scraping his body parts across my belly. Sometimes I wonder if he's going to poke through he's pushing so hard. I keep saying I can't wait for this to be over but then I remember that with each baby I felt this way at the end and then after I had them I missed being pg immediately. So I'm trying to enjoy it as much as possible since this is my last one.
Well I think I've rambled long enough. I know I keep saying this but I'll try and post more often so I don't get so behind.
Whoa, I am behind with the s/o's! Things have been busy around here getting baby's room ready, plus my parents stayed over for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Amie- Glad the stomach bug is gone. That is never fun, but has to be 100% worse when you're PG! Can't wait to see nursery pics.
elladee- Sounds like a nice shower--I would rather have the practical stuff myself, than frilly dresses! Of course since we're having a boy that won't be an issue. :) It's so cool seeing the baby's room take shape.
Jen309- Curious to see if the doc gave you an update on how things are 'down below!' :D
Jackie&Tom- I had one less than desirable u/s (my 2nd one), so I know how you feel. Going for my 4th on 12/13, so hopefully this one will be ok. Wow, December 10.....That is coming up very soon! :eek:
Jules- Wow, good for you for getting so much Christmas shopping done. I am trying to do a lot of mine online, but am having HUGE issues with Amazon--stuff I ordered mid-November, they're telling me it won't be shipped until after Christmas. And it was nothing weird, just DVD's and stuff! Ugh.
terrys wifey, MrsTazLvr, Lobeth, and yoganut--Congrats on having your c/s dates scheduled!!!
***********
Well, had my bi-weekly checkup at the OB/GYN yesterday. Total weight gain is now approaching 30 pounds. :eek: Not entirely happy about this, but then again, I have not been exercising like a fiend--only a half hour walk every day with the dog. Even that, some days I don't feel up to it, so I just let him out in the backyard to do his thing. I have days where I have so much energy, and others I am just sluggish and can't move! Lately my sleep is interrupted a lot too--by the baby KICKING incessantly for like an hour at a time! Usually it's at 4 or 5 in the morning. I am having HORRIBLE pain in my ribs--not sure if it's heartburn, or actual kicking in my ribs, but I've been eating Tums a lot lately!
Sounds like I will be having 2 showers--maybe 3. My mom is throwing one on 12/11; MIL is throwing one on 12/17 at her house, for relatives who live closer to her; AND I heard that my co-workers may be planning something too. It is really unexpected but nice that everyone is being so generous!
QOTD/Christmas: I am feeling a bit stressed thinking about getting ready for Christmas this year. We're having Christmas day dinner here (this year though, it'll be a pre-made dinner from Whole foods market--I don't feel like cooking this huge meal!). I put up some decorations the other day, and this weekend we will get our tree, and take the dog to get his picture taken with Santa. :) It was a little depressing going through my Christmas decor--a lot of stuff got damaged/ruined in the flood in October. At least my ornaments were stored over the garage. But, we lost all our lights and a TON of decorative stuff for the season. Oh well...
Still getting baby's room put together--it's pretty much set except for getting a crib mattress & bedding--and DH has to get some junk out of there. When it's all set I will post pictures.
terrys wifey, MrsTazLvr, Lobeth, and yoganut... um, I think you need to move to the Dec. mommies thread what with your Dec. c-sections and all... TOTALLY Kidding!! Congratulations to all of you for knowing your dates (and having them so soon)!
Jackie I'm sorry your u/s went so bad. I'm also a little surprised the Doc had his oh-well attitude. Doesn't exactly scream "bring your business to us!" It's amazing that you might be ready so early!
Elladee sounds like you had a great shower. I always prefer practical gifts :)
tsmom glad having your nephew isn't adding to the stress!
Nikki and Amie glad you're both back to good health :)
Chefker I'm getting there in weight too... also, not too happy since I started out with extra chub. I'm hoping that when the baby comes, it will just magically melt away. I'm also feeling tired a lot more again. I need a mid-morning and early evening nap... hmmm, wonder why I can't sleep at night? :rolleyes: I'm hoping this new schedule is my body preparing itself for no more than a few hours at a time.
Dr appt. update! So my appt. was a total rush job. They warned me when I came in that he might have to leave unless they were able to get me back right away (he had 2 ladies at the hospital about to deliver). So, I peed and then they hustled me straight back for bp and weight. My bp was high!! I think it was from all the whirlwind stress though... it's never been that high, ever. Then, I remembered DH was coming to this appt (he's wanted to go to them all though I keep telling him he's really not missing anything. He'd likely miss a whole day of work if it meant he'd get to hear the baby's hb). So, I ran back to the waiting room and he was standing there looking really uncomfortable, and brought him back to the exam room. Then the Doc comes in and does his thing with the swab (yuck!) and I assumed he'd do an internal, but he started taking the gloves off, so I asked um, "how are things going down there?" So he said that he'd check if I wanted him to (obviously not part of the 35 wk protocol) so I said "well, I'm already in position, it would be nice to know" so he tells me to not get my hopes up becuase everything is usually still thick and tight at this point. So, he does the exam and was surprised to find out that I'm a fingertip dialated and he could almost touch the baby's head! I realize that's not much, but hey, progress is progress!!!!:D Warning: This internal hurt!! It felt almost like a toned-down HSG. Maybe it was just me, but be forwarned.
The bad news: we talked briefly about induction again, and he said he wouldn't do it unless I'm 3cm dialated because otherwise I'd up my c-section risk. Would've been nice to know that a month ago when we talked about it. Oh well, I guess everything will happen when it's supposed to.
So, I met with the first pediatrician yesterday. It went ok... I wasn't too impressed with her office. It wasn't very clean. And, I had to wait 45 minutes after my appt time just to talk to her. I really hope I like the pediatrician I meet with next week. Otherwise, it's back to the drawing board.
terrys wifey, MrsTazLvr, Lobeth, and yoganut - Congrats on having your c-sections scheduled! That is so exciting to know that you'll have your babies soon! :)
Nikki - Woohoo for making progress on getting ready for the baby!
Jen309 - Yay for progress! :)
Jules- Wow, good for you for getting so much Christmas shopping done. I am trying to do a lot of mine online, but am having HUGE issues with Amazon--stuff I ordered mid-November, they're telling me it won't be shipped until after Christmas. And it was nothing weird, just DVD's and stuff! Ugh. chefker - Aack! I've ordered most of my gifts from amazon!! :eek: I've already gotten two gifts I ordered from them, but I have three more packages that I'm waiting for. I hope they get here before Christmas!
Hey Ladies,
Wow!! I see alot of us are going in early I really hope the hospital can do the 28th.yesterday I called my short term disability company to go over the claim forms then looked over the Family Medical Leave here at work just to get a feel of what I have ahead of me.
I'm not really freaking out!! As of yet but thinking about all of this paperwork and if everyone (my job, doctor and the company) will do their part and process everything in a timely fashion.
I will be giving my doctor the forms to fill out on my next visit and my job sometime next week.
My last day will be Dec 23rd!! I will have 5 days off to rest then get ready ready for Little Missy to make her arrival.
I called my son's pediatrician yesterday to ask about the process of bringing my daughter (aww that felt weird to type) in for her 2 week checkup and there after. They told me to call them after she is born and I could download the new patient forms from the web and bring them on her first visit.
So we're pretty much set at this point just need to get the forms signed and submitted, clean out the closet in the nursery and pack my bag for the hospital.
UGH! I know, this is what I get for registry-peeking, but I swear, I'm trying to be good with that. ;)
Anyway, I am getting sooo irritated with my BRU registry--now 1/4 of the stuff we registered for is 'no longer available'--all as of this week! And my first shower is on 12/11--I don't know if I should go changing stuff now or what! Perfectly normal stuff like baby monitors are discontinued or unavailable---I just did a search for 'monitors' on BRU's website, and there are SO many that are not available that it's not even funny.
I figured the registry would make things easy for people who want to buy stuff, seeing as I'm having more than one shower--but it just seems to be a source of frustration for me and others. My mom's friend actually complained to her that BRU charged her $25 shipping for some item she bought off the registry. Kind of weird that she went ahead and BOUGHT it if she had an issue with the high shipping rate--but anyway. I'm kind of sorry I did a registry there at all, it seems to be pissing a lot of people off. :(
Chefker - are most of your people going to be buying things in the real store? If they are, I wouldn't worry. My BRU registry says so much is unavailable, too, but it's just about all there in the store. But, yes, I have to agree, the whole BRU registry on Amazon is one giant PITA.
Well, people who live near my hometown (who will be attending the shower mom is throwing), have been relying on buying stuff online, as there is no BRU in that area. There is a BRU store near my IL's, and MIL is hosting her own shower for relatives who live near her, so at least people around there can just go to the store.
So, mainly it's just my side of the family who is getting ticked over the BRU registry/website. Ah well...
Hey Ladies,
Ok, can I just say how jealous I am of you who are meeting your babies in December?!? I'm so ready to meet Sam I could die! :)
Speaking of dying, last night I came close. So much for feeling better from the stomach bug...I'll just copy this from my LJ:
Sorry, some of it might be TMI (I tend to tell it all in my LJ)
>>Well, if a stomach virus is anything like labor, there is nofreakingway I can do it. No way.
Shortly after I posted last night, things went from bad to worse. I could hardly breathe because my stomach was cramping so bad and I could only take these short forcefull breaths in between tears. I was more nauseated than I have ever been in my whole life and even when I took some phenegren, it did nothing.
I called the doc on call and he told me to go to the hospital. I carried my tupperware bucket with me just in case.
We got checked in and I was crying the whole time because I was in so much pain. She checked me internally (cervix is closed) and asked me all the questions. The whole time I'm like 'PLEASE GIVE ME SOMETHING'. But she had to get good 'strips' on the baby monitor first and call the doctor.
About 1.5 hours after we got there, I sat up and threw up into my bucket. I'm talking TONS of vomit. Over and over and over. Even the nurse was like 'Dang, what all did you eat?!?' But that was the thing! All I had since 11am was a piece of toast and half a lean cuisine.
I felt *so* much better for about 15 minutes.
Then it started all over again but we were dying to go home since Andy and I were so uncomfortable. She gave me some more meds, drew blood to check my liver, etc., and finally at 1:30 she said if I was feeling better we could leave. We got out of there about 2:15.
When I got home I still felt like hell and I was so weak from puking. Just as I was about to fall asleep about 3, it all started again. I was puking so vilently I couldn't breathe and catch my breath. It was so scary. But after that round I was able to get some sleep finally, getting up about every 45 minutes until this morning.
Thank God Sam is OK through it all. His heartrate would go up to the 170's right after I would puke but otherwise he looked great. Poor guy, he's really been through it.
***
So anyway, it sucked. But thank God the babe is OK. I think he's worn out but that's all. I'll post more when I'm more up and able...
I haven't had any time to write because things have been pretty $hitty around here too. :( DH's father had to have emergency heart bypass surgery yesterday. The surgery was successful and they are hoping he can go home Friday or Saturday. It came as a huge shock as we just left their house on Saturday and Monday morning he started having chest pains.
Thankfully it looks like he will be okay.
I will write more later.
Amie Oh my goodness you poor thing! I cannot even imagine! I'm glad you are feeling a bit better though.
So I have been the queen of BH contractions for about 12 weeks now. I've always gotten a lot every day. But the last two days the contractions have been accompanied by menstral like cramps a couple of times (they even hurt). It was wierd. I really felt like I could get my period any second (obviously not), so strange. Anyone else experience this? I'm not bothering to call the doctor because she pretty much told me that if I do go into labor they will just let me deliver. So I don't see the need to do anything until my next appt. Also, my belly is also starting to hang really low. I've been carrying low all along but now it has a very droopy look to it. I'm convinced I'm going to be in labor (i.e. having contractions) for a month! It really stinks!
Amie - That sounds horrible. I really hope you are feeling better soon.
Jasonsgal - How scary! I hope your FIL continues to heal and everything goes well.
KRL - Me too! Well, I have been having contrax for a while now, but they are definitely getting more frequent and painful. I have felt menstrual-like cramps for the past couple weeks as well. My ob said to just go into l&d if I have 5 or more in an hour. I actually had 5 in an hour last night, but like you, wasn't too anxious to go to l&d. So, I waited it out and the next hour I only had 3. Didn't seem like the pattern was getting regular or more intense, so I just ruled them as BH contrax. It is quite uncomfortable to constantly deal with them though.
Jen309 ~ How exciting to make a little progress! I would be extremely excited about being a fingertip dialated too! It's funny how Dr's do things differently, I've been induced or scheduled to be induced with all of my pgcies so far and only once was I already 3 cm dialted. Hopefully he will come early for you so you don't have to worry about it.
Jules1025 ~ sorry you didn't like the pediatrician. Hopefully the next one will be much better so you can cross that "to do" off your list.
terrys wifey ~ how exciting that you have an official date set! You just reminded me that I need to figure out what I need to do to get my short term disability started and what kinds of forms I need to fill out. Your really on top of things!
Chefker ~ sorry to hear about the registry issues. We don't have a BRU around here and it sounds like that's a good thing. I haven't heard too many good things about that store in general. Hope you will be able to get the things you registerd for.
Amie~ I'm so sorry to hear that you've been so sick. That sounds so horrible. I had the stomach flu a couple of times but not nearly as bad as that. I threw up once and couldn't stand it, I can't imagine what those of you who had m/s must feel like every day. I hope your starting to feel better soon.
Jasonsgal ~ I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. I hope he makes a quick recovery.
KRL626 ~ you know, this is my 4th pregnancy and I still don't know for sure if I've experienced a BH contraction. I know what real contractions feel like but I'm still unsure of BH, is that weird or what? Sometimes it feels like my belly is getting hard but then I'm not sure if it's the baby just stretching out and making my belly tight. That's good that they are not worried about stopping it at this point if you do go into labor, hopefully you don't have to deal with it for another month.
yoganut ~ I wanted to mention earlier that I was glad to hear your Dr wanted you to quit working. It sounds like things were getting pretty stressful and now you seem to be doing much better. Sounds like you could have this baby before your c-section date with all the contrax!
Anyone else feel like the baby is just going to fall out sometimes? I don't feel like that all the time so I wonder if it's the position he's in but it feels like he is really low. I know I haven't dropped yet since my Dr just told me that at my appt yesterday.
As far as working goes I plan on working up to when I deliver. With DD I was put on moderate bedrest a week before I had her because of my b/p and swelling. So far things are going a lot better for me so I don't think that will happen again. That's fine with me though, I don't have any more vacation time for this year and to start my maternity leave I have to use 5 days so I would like to go the very end of Dec so I don't have as many unpaid days. Only two more full weeks of work and then I will have a couple short weeks due to the holidays and hopefully this babe will show up the last week of Dec.
Jen309, that's pretty cool that you're a fingertip dialated already! Wow!
jules1025, I hope things go better at the next ped, too. I really need to make some progress on that front, too.
terrys wifey, I'm impressed that you have everything in order for your leave. I feel like such a slacker compared to you guys.
jasonsgal, I hope your FIL has a speedy recovery.
KRL626, I've been having menstrual like cramps on and off for a couple of months now. I've mentioned it to my doc at my last two appointments, and he says they're perfectly normal. Still, they're not real fun.
terrys wifey, congrats on getting the appointment set. That's wild!
Feeling pretty good today had slight m/s when I woke up but I got it together. I filled out all of my paperwork (maternity leave) called my doctor's office and they said I can drop it off and need to pay $15.00 for the first form :eek: my only frustration is my job no one seems to have a clue.
I asked my supervisor about who signs my Family Medical Leave form and the Short Term Disability form :confused: I was directed to this guy who is suppose to be our "benefit rep":rolleyes: he referred me to the manager in Human Resource who said to send her the forms after I fill them out and the doctor and she will do the Employer part and submit them.
I don't know maybe it's just me but I hav a feeling I am going to be on her back to get it done especially since it's the holidays and some people take vacation around this time. I pray it can go smoothly, this is the whole purpose of getting it done early.
Have to run to the airport in a minute but wanted to swing in and say I hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Had an ob appt yesterday. - up 30lbs so far - oink-oink!!! Dr. is not worried as I passed (by the skin of my teeth) my GD test...
However, I failed my coomb's test. I did not really know what that was all about but not after doing some research (curse the darn internet) I am kinda freaking out. Basically I have o negative blood which in the past has always been a huge blessing, I donate all the time because my blood goes to babies in the nicu and to other high risk patients (I am cmv neg too). When I was pg with T I took Rhogam shots as I have with this baby. The positive Coombs basically says that my body has started to build antibodies to positive blood types. This is a problem because these antibodies cross the placenta and start attacking the babies red blood cells. My Dr. was not too concerned because he said that my ratio's were pretty low and I did get another Rhogam shot when they did the test (the Rhogam is supposed to stop the production of the antibodies). My OB is checking with the perintologist to see what the next step should be. Probably just closer monitoring to make sure the ratios do not go up. I know everything will probably be fine but needless to say I am worried. Best case - baby is dandy and I go full term - worst - still birth, brain damage, anemia or blood transfusions. Dr. is not worried about worst case at all, I guess happens more so when it is left undiagnosed but it is still tough to read that it is an option.
Other than that "brother" is looking good - his head measured at 33w4d and his leg at 31w5d. Doc said fluid looked fine and heart was pumping like crazy! I am still feeling a bit sore and some nausea is kicking back in.
s.o.'s on Monday!!
QOTD? has everyone decorated the nursery yet?
yep, it's 90% done. painted, furniture in. i'm itching to get the mattress and sheets and changing table covers, wash clothes and blankets, etc. but i will have to wait until at least after our baby shower (this sat!!)
QOTD? Any of you plan to breastfeed?
yep. not sure how long, but that is the plan. i'm so surprised someone bought the breast pump off our registry! now i'm hearing that they're not returnable, so hopefully it will work for me. in 2 weeks, our bradley class will go over nursing in detail. a friend of mine told me to go ahead and start putting lanolin cream on at about 36 weeks to "prepare"...
I had my baby shower at work today!! I got alot of stuff (clothes) sometimes I figure what is the point in registering especially for a girl b/c everyone looooves girl clothes. It was really nice, I feel so blessed to have people care and show luv. Ya just feel like thank you isn't enough, I stopped by the store and bought some cakes to go along with the thank you card.
Two of my co workers bought Malik a gift too, he was sooo excited.
My living room looks like babies r us has exploded, and I didn't even take the stuff out of the trunk. I'll have Terry do that when he gets home but I definitely had to take the bags out from the inside before I wake up in the morning and see my car sitting there with no windows
We also got alot of gift cards (can't go wrong with those) I'll save them b/c I'm sure we'll be running out of pampers in no time. We bought cases early so it won't be a strain and we'll be stocked for a while.
Well I'm off to bed not to sleep but to watch some Christmas Shows, I just finished watching Christmas without Santa. I just love it!!
Hey, ladies! I'm so behind on this thread, so I hope y'all don't mind if I skip out on SO's. All is going well here, and I can't believe I'm 36 weeks today! Yikes! My baby is actually due this month! I have a very strong feeling I'm going to go late, and he won't show until the first week or so in January, but still -- my due date is Dec. 29, which is just wild to me.
We're slowly getting things together for the baby. It's frustrating that we can't decorate a nursery, but that will come soon, I hope. The repairs on our house started this week, and our contractor believes it will be a quick job. I hope he's right. I can't imagine we'll be back in our house before the baby is born, but maybe mid-January...? Stoopid Katrina.
I've scheduled my maternity photos for next Thursday, and I'm really, really excited about them. I work at a newspaper, and our former photographer is going to be taking them for me. She is so incredibly talented. Now I just have to figure out what to wear!
I'm feeling pretty good for the most part, although I'm still experiencing some pretty bad pain in my ribs. It comes and goes, and some days are better than others. The other night, I was in tears from the pain, but today hasn't been so bad. I'm hoping he'll drop soon, and I'll get some relief. So far, my ribs have been my only real complaint of pregnancy, so I guess I'm not doing too bad.
Breastfeeding? Yes, definitely. I am hell-bent on breastfeeding this kid, and if it doesn't work out, I will be very, very disappointed. I have every reason to believe it will be just fine, though, so I'm trying not to worry too much about it.
And finally, here are some belly shots I took today. I can't believe I'm going to get even bigger over the next four weeks!
36 weeks!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/IMG_0609.jpg
I can definitely tell my face is getting puffier. I don't recognize myself! I guess that's what happens when you gain 35 pounds, though. Sheesh.
Hope everyone is feeling well! My next appointment is Monday, and my OB will be doing an internal. Hmmm.
Ole Miss Bride--I hope your house gets fixed quickly. That is a nice belly pic.
terrys wifey--Glad you had a good shower. I think the gift cards will be nice and handy.
tsmom--Sorry your ratio was high. I'm sure everything will be fine. Stop looking at things on the internet though. It will just make you worry too much.
nursery--I am in the process of decorating the nursery. I should finally have the walls all painted by the end of this weekend (I will try and post some pictures). After the painting, all I need is the furniture. FIL is making good progress on the crib. I can't wait to see what he has done when DH and I visit on the 17th. We also need to talk to him about building us a dresser too.
breastfeeding--I am definitely planning on breastfeeding. DH told me not to get too much stuff for breastfeeding incase it doesn't workout, but I told him that I need to set myself up for success by having these things. jjohm, I have heard the same thing about putting that cream on your nipples around 36 weeks. I plan on doing that too.
Congrats to everyone who has scheduled their C-sections!!
I am starting to feel better about getting things done for Christmas and baby. I talked to SIL the other day and she offered to come over sometime and help me get things clean and ready for Christmas and baby. DH and I have our first childbirth class tomorrow. Hopefully we will get a lot of good info. DH and I are also both getting massages tomorrow. There is a new massage place that is just opening up and this weekend they are doing hour long massages for only $39. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I can't wait. :D
Tsmom-Sorry about your test results. I'm Rh negative too, but got tested and my shot at 28 weeks. Actually, I never knew what the name of the test was. I'm sure that everything will be fine. Please try not to worry too much.
Ole Miss/Betsy-What a cute coming home outfit. I have not bought anything for the baby to come home in. You are looking pretty good too. You are "all belly." I look a mess! I'm chunky everywhere!
QOTD re Nursery: The baby's nursery is not done. We were going to re-do DD's nursery for the baby, but will just give him the guest room instead. Since the baby will sleep with us for the first few months, I'll work on the nursury later. Plus DD is still sleeping in the crib.... Anyway, I'm thining of doing a sports/football theme for the baby.
QOTD re Breastfeeding: I am very determined to breastfeed this time around. I still have all of my supplies from my attempts with DD.
Have a great weekend everyone!
QOTD??? A few of you posted that you are going to be putting "cream" on your nipples at 36 weeks. What is this cream and what does it do?
I plan to breast feed, I think we're going to buy a manual pump to start with right before going to the hospital.
The nursery is almost complete DH is going to buy the crib mattress this weekend and I need to buy some wall letters to spell out her name and then I can start decorating. Oh! and I need to buy a curtain rod to hang the curtains. Then is will be complete, I can't wait until our daughter is home.
QOTD nursery~ we are in the process of fixing up the nursery. Actually the baby will be sharing a room with DD so it won't be quite a nursery. She is still in a crib though so it could still look like one. I'm actually going to work on it today. Luckily we painted the room green so it works for both sexes, I still have some border left from DS #2 that matches the bedding we also saved so I'm thinking about taking down the girl border on his side of the room and put up the boys. It ends right at the windows so I think it will look good. I also need to go through the clothes I do have and put them away and figure out what else I need. My SIL works at a local dept store and she gets 20% off this weekend so she is coming down to take us shopping for stuff we still may need so we can get the discount!
QOTD Breastfeeding ~ I'm still deciding on this one. I actually just signed up for a b/f class on the 14th so I will see what it's like. I had breast reduction surgery almost a year ago so I don't even know how well the girls will work. I thought about just pumping too if I can't get him to b/f very well.
Im also curious about this cream your suppose to put on your nipples at 36 weeks since I will be 36 weeks next Thurs! :eek:
Betsy ~ you look so great! Can't wait to see how your prof pics turn out. Love the going home outfit and dress too. My DH's Christmas party is next Sat so I need to go out and find a nice shirt. I cannot wear dresses at this point!
Meggers ~ that's great that your SIL is going to help you with Christmas, I'm still stressed out about that. We are having it here for my FIL, SIL and her two kids so it's not that many people but we still have to clean the house which is almost impossible with three kids. :rolleyes: I would LOVE to have a massage right now. My back hurts so bad after work even though I sit down all day. I can't sit up straight againt the back of my chair anymore because my belly is so big then I can't reach my keyboard. So now I sit at the end of my chair and I have no back support.
Terrys Wifey ~ yay for another baby shower. I think it's great when you get a lot of clothes at showers. If your like me I have a hard time buying those really cute outfits that cost a lot of mone b/c you know they will only wear them a couple of times. So it's great when someone else is willing to spend their money on them. :D
Tsmom ~ sorry to hear about the test results. Sounds like the baby will be fine though. Try listening to your what your Dr says and stop reading the internet. :D I know, easier said than done.
Well I made a big list of things I want to do this weekend. One is to get this babys room in order. We still have to buy a mattress but I'm in no hurry to do that since he will be in the bassinet for awhile. I also want to put up the Christmas tree and start my Christmas shopping. I have so many people to buy for I'm afraid I'm going to forget somebody! I also wanted to get the kids picture taken for Christmas cards this weekend but our digital camera that we ordered on Monday hasn't shown up yet. I live in So Dak where we had the ice storms and blizzard so the camera is still sitting in Mpls and won't arrive until Mon. :mad: I guess I won't get to do that until next week.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Breast Cream I think I can answer this one. It's Lanisoh breast cream and it's the stuff you put on your nipples if they get sore while your nursing. But I just got some and the package suggests that you can begin applying it at 36 weeks to help head off soreness and prepare your nipples for nursing. I'm going to give it a shot as I am determined to breastfeed.
You girls are so good with the SO's! I just can't do it :(
congratulations on the scheduled c/s dates girls!
Everything here is so far so good! I go to the Dr again on Wed.
We had our childbirth class today & it kind of freaked me out rather than making me feel more comfortable with things.
I have had 3 showers so far & have one more scheduled. I'm going to BRU to return some things & buy our (out of stock) travel system. they told me they have 6 in the store so we'll just snatch one of those up. There are still a lot of little things that we need.
Nursery - Everything is just thrown in there. I need to get the furniture organized, things on the walls, stuff washed & put away, etc.
Breast Feeding - I plan on it. I'm a little unsure of what to do for a pump just because of the return policy on them & it's a lot of money to spend if it doesn't work out.
Well I hope everyone is doing well. I can't believe how close we all are!!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Yesterday I had a ton of BH contrax. A few times I had as many as 4 right in a row. I spent most of the day on the couch since they seemed to get worse when I was up and moving around. They seem to be better today. I have a regular appt tomorrow, so as long as nothing else odd happens, I'll ask about them then.
catandmouse, our cb classes really freaked me out, too. After a few days, I got over it, though. Hope you can, too.
tsmom, I hope everything works out ok for you guys.
Betsy, cute belly!
Breastfeeding, I am determined to do this, as well. I've heard of Lanisoh cream, but never heard that it could be used ahead of time. Interesting.
Nursery, we don't exactly have a nursery to decorate, but we are making progress on baby things. We have a changing table, pad and cover ready in the office. Diapers are washed (though I think I need to get a few more). I do still need to find some baskets to better organize things. Instead of a dresser (because there's just no room for one), we are using plastic drawers stuck in the office closet as a dresser. I bought the drawers last weekend and washed and put away two loads of baby clothes. My father has finished the cradle he was making. Now my mother needs to make a mattress and sheets. I hope to be able to get it when we visit at Christmas.
First of all, a BIG thanks to sophonisba9 for the wonderful baby shower gift! Thank you so much....can't wait to use it once the little one is here. :D
I guess I've been busy lately! This weekend we did more cleaning (getting baby's room ready....DH has *so* much stuff to go through, mostly old documents & stuff we have to shred). I can't WAIT until the nursery is all set up. We are nearly done though!
Other than that, we got our Christmas tree over the weekend and did a lot of decorating of the house (taking advantage of a rare burst of energy!) We took our dog to see Santa on Saturday too. Unfortunately he was so distracted by the other doggies in line, that he wouldn't look at the camera! ;) So we took our own pic of him in front of the tree for our Christmas card this year.
I can't believe I'm just about 33 weeks already! My next appointment is on 12/13, along with my 4th u/s. Hopefully the placenta will have moved further away from my cervix. I can't believe how STRONG this baby is kicking me lately....definitely a good sign, BUT it certainly interrupts my sleep a lot! I guess I better get used to sleepless nights anyway.
Will be back later for s/o's.....must get back to work for now!
Now I'm getting a little nervous. For you repeat offenders (or anyone else who's lost it already) what was it like when you lost you mucus plug? Gross, I know, but I think I might be losing mine. Did you lose it all at once, or little bits at a time? Twice I've visited the bathroom this morning since I got to work, and both times there was a glob of yellowish gunk on the tp. Not that much each time, but it's definately different than my regular discharge.
elladee - I didn't lose mine last time, but what you described definitely sounds like the plug. From what I have heard, in most cases it doesn't all come out at once - and that this can go on for a few days. I would talk to your doctor about it today at your appt. Maybe they will do an internal - it certainly sounds like the contrax must be doing something if you are losing your plug.
Betsy - You look great, and I am sure your professional pics will be beautiful! Love the coming home outfit too!
Tsmom - I hope you had a good weekend away. I am so sorry to hear about the scary blood results, and hope they have more info for you this week. Hang in there.
Breastfeeding - I bf'ed DS #1 for 13 months, and definitely plan to bf this little guy for at least 6 months. I had some challenges getting started last time, so at least I am somewhat prepared mentally and know where to go for help this time. I am not going to pressure myself to go beyond 6 months though, as it was pretty tough pumping for all those months at work - and I imagine that it will be even harder between infant, toddler and work come April.
Nursery - We are almost finished re-organizing our nursery for 2. DH raised the mattress level in the crib yesterday, and I unpacked/organized the little baby clothes. We just need for our additional 3-drawer nightstand to arrive so I can put a few piles away. Man, space is starting to get tight for us so we have had to be really strategic about where we put each thing. I think the room still looks pretty good - I will take a couple pics latter in the week when it is all done.
Call me crazy, but we took Rowan to Disneyland for his 2nd birthday on Friday. I took it easy and did a lot of sitting, plus we had a hotel room that we went back to in the afternoon for rest/nap. It was such a priceless experience to see it all through his eyes! I am glad we did it, because I can't imagine taking a child younger than 2 - so we obviously won't be back for a while. His favorite things were the train, carosel and 'It's a Small World' (which they re-do for the holidays) - oh, and of course the Holiday Parade. :D
