Today was the first day in a LONG time that I've felt 'normal'! I had NO PG symptoms at all; a few times I actually had to 'remind' myself that I was pregnant!

It was nice not having nausea and being the normal amount of tired. :) I could get used to this...it was a nice change after having two months of barfiness!

Well I decided to make my way over here. When I first visited the new WC boards, I knew I didn't like them. Now the more I go there, the more I dislike them. I like this set up way better. Here's my info.

Should we have our thread in the group section?

06-26-2005, 04:09 PM
Hi ladies! I hope everyone had a great, m/s free weekend. :)

FYI, I've added everyone's name (along with screen name) in the first post of this thread, kind of a who's who. If that's not cool with anyone, please send me a PM, or email me through my profile here. Hopefully I have those options enabled!

meggers--It's funny, I started this thread before there was a group section (at least I didn't see it then), but I noticed a group section today. I can always ask the admin. if it needs to be moved over there, but it should be OK here for now I think?

How is everyone doing this morning? I'm home today with a sick child. I'll be taking him into the Dr shortly. I'm hoping they can give him something for it, I hate it when we have to wait it out. It always seems to take forever for him to get over it.

Well I'm excited that I have my 2nd Dr appt tomorrow! I will finally get to hear the h/b and maybe she will measure me. I'm still curious if I may be carrying twins. Everyone keeps teasing me that I am. Unfortunatley I won't get an U/s, I only get one between 16 - 20 weeks which means that should be my next appt! I can't wait to find out the sex! Although I'm pretty confident that it's a girl. ;) I told my DH that I was so sure that we didn't even need to find out at the U/S, that didn't fly with him. I believe I told him that with my last pgcy too, and I was right!

Hope everyone is having a nice m/s free Monday morning!

annie It is great to see you! i have been thinking about you and hope you are doing well. Of course no one minds you being here!

Nikkid Sorry to hear about your sick one. :( Good luck with your drs. appt. tomorrow! how exciting. I never used to get so excited to see the dr. till now! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

QOTD - 1 So, i was talking to my MIL and explaining to her that Dh and I were probably going to rent a doppler. She was like thats nice but why don't you just use a stethoscope? it would be a lot cheaper. i didn't even think of that. Would that work just as well?

QOTD - 2 My dr. said it was fine if I had one cup of coffee and one soda a day, just not to over do it and have more than that. So do you have any caffeine?

QOTD - 3 When do you technically start the 2nd trimester? I have heard anything from 12 weeks to 14 weeks. So what do you think and why? I think i will feel I am in the 2nd trimester at 13 weeks.

i am doing really well and feel great. i am getting excited about feeling the baby kick. Sorry about all my QOTD's...
:)

Have a great day!

twomidnightblues - Welcome!

Meggers - Glad to see you came over! :)

Nikki - Sorry to hear about your sick babe. Good luck at your appt tomorrow! About the pg tickers in sigs... unfortunately, this site does not allow images in the signature. :(

qotd 2 - I allow myself a soda (only one) every now and then. I also drink iced tea. I stay away from coffee b/c it has so much more caffeine than soda or tea.

qotd 3 - I found a trimester timeline at this site - http://theparentsite.com/pregnancy/trimesters.asp. It says 14 weeks is the start of the 2nd tri. I'll probably count 13 weeks though b/c I'm so dang ready to be in the 2nd trimester!! :p

Hi Annie, and welcome Amy! :) I'll update our members as soon as I can.

QOTD : No clue on stethoscopes--my cousin is a doctor though, I can always fire him an email and ask!

QOTD #2 : I have one small cup of coffee in the morning most days. I found when I didn't, I usually get a headache from the 'withdrawal.' I don't drink soda much at all, so that wasn't an issue for me anyway.

QOTD #3 : I always assumed it was around 12 weeks--I should consult my various books when I get home though! Probably after the 3 month mark (which is in 2.5 weeks already, WOW!), I will 'feel' like I'm entering the 2nd trimester.

Oh man, just this morning on the WC thread, I said I was staying there. But then curiosity got the better of me and I had to check this place out again. It is tons better. There is so much more going on here. Like I said there, though, I can't really keep up with both sites since I do most of this from work. Guess I'm going to be a convert. I feel bad leaving all the girls over there, though. Maybe they'll jump on this bandwagon, too.

So here's my stats:
Me:Lisa/elladee (LAD03 on WC)
DH: Greg
Married: 10/18/03
TCC: N/A
BFP:5/18/05
EDD: 1/24/06

Do most of you have your journals on LJ? I never really liked that because I hate asking people if they'll be my friend or if I can be their friend. I'm thinking maybe I'll start, though. If I do, will some of you be my friends? :D My WC journal isn't that big, so I think I'd just copy and paste it over.

elladee
06-27-2005, 10:27 AM
Ack, I forgot to write about the pregnancy related things...

My first dr appt is tomorrow morning! I'm psyched. I feel so far behind some of you who have had a bunch already. I don't know that they're going to do anymore than just ask me a bunch of questions. Nikkid, I probably only get one u/s though the whole thing, too.

annie good to see you. I hope you are doing well.

QOTD2
I don't really like soda, but I love coffee. Still I have pretty much cut it out. A couple times a week or so, I have a cup after lunch if I'm in dire need of a pick me up. Like probably today. :p

QOTD3
I'm not really sure about the trimester thing either. My gut feel would be at 13 weeks - once the 12th week is over. But then, for counting weeks, you hit "week 12" when the 12th week is over anyway. It's all very confusing...

Thanks Jasonsgal and Jules, he is feeling better. I feel like I wasted a day off, he's been feeling fine all day. The Dr even said he just has a viral infection because everything looked good!

Welcome Lad, I was hesitant moving to a new thread too, I don't like change. This is a lot similar to the old WC so I like it much better. Good luck with your 1st appt tomorrow. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets one u/s.

Welcome twomidnightblues!

QOTD1 I'm not sure how well a stethoscope would work. I remember when my mom was pg with my little brother (22 years ago) she used a stethoscope but I think it was late in the pregnancy. I don't know how well it would work early on.

QOTD2 I don't drink coffee so that's a plus for me but I do like soda! I limit myself, I don't have one every day but I would guess I have around 3 or 4 a week.

QOTD3 I don't know if their really is a set week which starts the 2nd trimester. I go by 13 weeks only because if you divide 40 by 3 you get a little over 13.

12 wks! Yay!

Feeling good in pregnancy land. I do have a cold right now which sucks because I can't take anything for it. I'm really looking forward to Thursday as we have our NT ultrasound. I've heard they can sometimes tell the gender! Seems kind of early though right?

Well I am still checking in with the WC, but like our little group here. Hopefully a lot of them will jump on the bandwagon

Jules look at that belly! I love it!

yoganut
06-27-2005, 07:28 PM
Jumping on the bandwagon! I like this so much more than the new WC board...and we get to stay together. Yeah! I don't have LJ experience (though I got a logon this weekend), and don't have time to keep track of all the friending. This looks about my speed.

Me: Ali (Yoganut on WC too!)
DH: Jason
Married: 10/13/01
DS: 12/2/03
TTC: 3/26/05
BFP: 4/26/05
EDD: 1/3/05
Gender: We are 75% sure its another boy from the BUN test u/s

KRL - You might be able to tell on Thursday...though you have to look carefully. The doctor started with the bottom up shot, and we saw a little white something sticking out between the tadpole legs. From DS #1, we knew what 'boy parts' look like on u/s so we were able to make it out. I heard with girls you see 3 lines, if that makes sense. Good luck!

Jules - Great belly shot!

I called to see if my results were in from the BUN test, and they weren't. :( Hopefully we will know what is going on tomorrow. On a happier note, I am feeling so much better. Hardly any nausea and lots more energy...hooray for the second trimester!

QOTD1 - I don't really know anything about using stethascopes.

QOTD2 - I am a starbucks iced coffee addict! I asked my doctor about having one 'tall' a day, and she didn't think it was a problem. It helped my morning sickness so much.

QOTD3 - Somewhere I read that if you want to get technical, each trimester is 13.3 weeks. So, that looks closer to 13 weeks than 14, IMO. I don't think there is a precise science to it though.

Info about stethoscopes:

Fetal Heart Beat

Although the fetal heart begins beating as early as the 5th week after the LMP, your ability to detect it will be limited by your equipment.

An ultrasound machine usually will see a heartbeat by 5 to 6 weeks gestation if equipped with a vaginal probe. Abdominal ultrasound will usually see the heartbeat by the 7th-8th week of pregnancy.

If you use a Doppler ultrasound fetal heartbeat detector, you can, with effort, usually hear the heartbeat by 12-14 weeks gestation and routinely after that.

Using a DeLee stethoscope (equipped with a head-mount), you can sometimes hear the heartbeat by 16 weeks but unless you are practiced with it, you won't hear it until 20 weeks, at which time the mother can usually tell you that she feels the baby moving.

Using a conventional stethoscope, you may never hear the fetal heartbeat.

Welcome to twomidnightblues, elladee, and yoganut!! :)

I'm going to start a new QOTD, even though it's late in the evening, and the changeover is going to happen in a few hours!

QOTD: Anyone have a family history of twins or other multiples? Whether you've previously given birth to multiples, or they just run in your family. :)

In my family, there are 6 sets of twins (4 sets of fraternal, two sets of identical), and one set of QUADS. So naturally, everyone is teasing me that *I* will be the next one to have twins, or more. Which freaks me out, to be honest! Who knows what will happen, really--we won't honestly know until we have the u/s, which won't be for another month or two I think!

I am so tired tonight so no time for shoutouts. The caffiene question got me wondering:

QOTD2~ What are you drinking all day long? I have been limiting my caffiene, but I have been drinking a lot of drinks with Splenda. I can't drink plain water so I add lime juice and Splenda to it. Or I drink Diet Sprite with Slenda or flavored sparkling water that has Splenda in it. I can't really drink a lot of sugary drinks because I am trying to limit my sugars since I had GD last time. I am not sure what to drink these days. Any ideas?

I have been living off of ice water with fresh lemon in it. It's nice and refreshing during the heat wave we're having too!

J&K - I friended you back! :)

MrsTazlvr - I drink iced water mainly. I've had problems with low blood sugar, so I'm extremely worried I'm going to get GD. I keep having sugar cravings, though! I drink a small glass of OJ in the morning sometimes, "light" cranberry juice (with splenda), diet coke a few times a week and tea with splenda a few times a week. Other than that, it's just water all the time.

twins... We have zero twins in my family that I know of! And, our u/s confirms that there is only one baby in there. :) I couldn't imagine waiting to find out if we were having twins!!

QUESTION RE: DOPPLERS - To those of you that rented one... where did you rent it from? We are looking into renting one. TIA!

yoganut
06-27-2005, 10:01 PM
jules - We rented from baby beat, and they seem really good. I rented the basic version, but added the recorder feature which is fun. Then I can 'listen' to the hb without disturbing baby. ;)

MrsTazlvr
06-27-2005, 10:06 PM
I rented from www.heartones.com both times and I have been very happy with them. :)

Water~ So I guess I just have to learn to like plain water or water with lemon/lime and no sweetener. LOL Do you think Splenda is bad for the baby. I used it with DD and she's fine, but I don't remember how strict I was with my first pregnancy.

elladee

J&K2003, I added you as a friend, too.

QOTD - Twins
We have twins in my family, too. My grandma has twin brothers, and DH's grandpa was a twin. But there have been no cases of twins since then, so I'm not really worried. I figure there's nothing I can do about it now, anyway. I won't get a sonogram for another couple months.

QOTD - Drinks
I drink a glass of OJ for breakfast and two glasses of milk for dinner. Other than that it's ice water all day long (unless I sneak in a cup of cofee like I said earlier). I acutally really like just plain water if it's cold enough.

Now I'm off to get ready for my appointment!

jasonsgal

jules1025 Love your belly shot!!!

yoganut Congrats on 2nd trimester! Yay! hope your test results are available today.

J&K2003 Thank you so much for finding out that information on stethoscopes. I just fired off an email to the MIL and DH. maybe I can order that doppler today ;)

QOTD no multiples run in my family. I believe there is a set in dh's fathers side though.

chefker omg! You must be going crazy to think that you may be carrying multiples but can't find out for a couple months. I browsed a 4D u/s site and it's only like $85 for 10 minutes or something like that. Or $200 for 45 minutes. You won't get great photos of the baby this early on but you could see if you were having multiples!

QOTD2 I drink 4 glasses of Milk a day. I LOVE LOVE milk!
I have one cup of coffee 4-5x a week. (yoganutMaybe that is why I had zero m/s?) i drink tons of water all day long. A sprite with lunch a few times a week. A glass of OJ every other day.

btw: i forgot to tell you all that I felt like I had gained 10 pounds. My sweet tooth has been going CRAZY! i have been trying really hard to be good. Really! I went to the dr. and I had only gained 2 pounds from week 4 of pregnancy - week 11 of pregnancy. My belly is really sticking out, I was so surprised. Is it because I went off my St. Thomas diet of bushwhackers and Miller Lite?

twomidnightblues
06-28-2005, 08:22 AM
QOTD2~ What are you drinking all day long? I've been drinking water. I carry around my water bottle all day and drink. I try to drik at least 60oz, not that it always happens. I've also been making my own iced tea. I've been using ginger tea, since ginger is helpful with easing some of the queasiness. I don't sweeten it. Sometime I drink lemonaid, which is sweetened. I'm trying to not do toomuch sweet stuff though (which isn't too hard as sweet makes me feel sick). I WAS drinking 4 glasses of milk a day but for the past couple weeks, it's made me ill so I haven't been drinking it (been eating cheese).

QOTD re: multiples: None run in the family. At my last appointment they confirmed that there's only one bebe in there.

I'd like to know something. I'm almost 11 weeks. I had my 1st appointment last month where they did my "oh so fun" pap, then did a vag ultrasound to check size and determine a more accurate due date. My next appointment is July 5. Will I be poked and prodded again or is it just measuring the belly? I'd like to know what to expect and if I should shave my legs and pretty up the nether reigon. My Dr office makes you meet with all the Drs there (4 of them) so I'm not getting the one I adore.

Also, any of you ladies on the chubby side before getting pg? Belly pics are super cute but it's alway people who were skinny-minnies before. Makes me a bit self conscious and not wanting to post any belly pics. I was a size 12 before. Seriously, I worry that I'll be one of those people where other think to themselves "pregnant..or fat?"

LJ: I have an LJ. I'm twomidnightblue over there. I enjoy meeting new people so feel free to friend me. Sometimes it takes me a while to check and see if new people have added me so don't dipsair if I don't friend you back right away. I'm trying to be better about checking more often.

jules1025, like MrsTazlvr we rented our doppler from Heartones (http://www.heartones.com/). It arrived when I was 10w1d and we heard the heartbeat from the 1st day we had it. Of course that depends on other factors besides doppler sensitivity, but we've been really happy with the doppler. It's also fairly easy to hook it up to your computer and make a recording of the heartbeat, which we did. Another thing about Heartones I liked was that they have a discount if you rent for several months upfront. HTH!

twomidnightblue , I added you to my LJ. So if you see a mysterious smitty0705 on your FL, that's me. :D

Any ideas?

~Cori :)

I've completely cut out soda (which I didn't drink all that much of in the first place). I'm drinking milk, water, gatorade and crystal light. Trying to focus on the water though!

Ok. I'm glad there's another "not skinny before" girl out there. I'm not sure I want to post belly pics of myself.

Well, I'm currently on day 5 of not puking. It's a lovely feeling. My toilet and I had such close relationship, I was considering naming it. I'm hoping I'm done with the whole morning/noon/night sickness business. It feels so great to be able to eat and keep it down. I had a supah yummy BLT at Dairy Queen this past weekend and it was like heaven.

I also am plus size - it's horrible, but I haven't even taken any pictures of myself yet. I'm sure I'll regret it, but it's just not something I want!

I can really feel a difference though. My clothes still fit, but I can tell my waist is getting thicker. Maybe we need a secret plus size belly picture thread :)

I just wanted to update on my ultrascreen results. Well, they are OK, but not great. Once the measurement is combined with the blood test, my risk goes to 1/230. Apparently, this is an improvement as my risk based off of the measurement alone was 1/167. Statistically speaking, the genetic counselor said that it is still a 99.5% chance that everything is fine. That said, they still recommend that I get the amnio. They would recommend it to anyone over 1/270...so I am just out of the normal range. Makes me think that my blood results must have been really good if I started at much higher odds.

I think I am going to go ahead and do the amnio, for peace of mind. The genetic counselor said that overall national risk of the procedure is miscarriage for 1/200...though that includes doctors who don't do the procedure very often. Since this doctor specializes in it, she said his risk was 1/400.

I put in a call to my ob, though she is in surgery today so I don't know if I will hear from her. I am going to call the insurance and make sure it is covered and then schedule the procedure. They do it at 16 weeks, so now I have to wait a while. Yuck!

Anyone else having trouble with swelling? Today (and yesterday), I'm feeling some puffiness in my hands and feet. Of course, it is WICKED muggy out, so that's probably why!

Unfortunately I also have a whopper of a migraine today, which I rarely get. Glad I got to work at home, but really all I want to do is lie down now. And I'm afraid to take anything for it! I have prescription stuff but of course it'd be too strong. Maybe Tylenol would be OK, I'll have to call the doctor. This sucks. :(

MrsTazlvr
06-28-2005, 02:13 PM

yoganut - Sorry you need to have an amnio. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything is ok! I'm sure it will be - a 99.5% chance that everything is fine is pretty damn good!

chefker - I've taken tylenol a few times for headaches. My doc said it's ok.

We ordered a doppler last night! I hope it gets here by Saturday. I want to check on our babe and make sure his/her heart is still beating away before we tell our friends the big news on Sunday. :) I just can't keep it hidden until the 2nd trimester - now that I have a serious gut and I'm not drinking alcohol, our friends are starting to ask questions.

Yoganut, best wishes with the amnio. I hope you get some happy results. Stinks that you have to wait so long, though.

I had my first appt today. It went ok. It was the first time I met my doctor (usually I see the NP) and I really like him. I'm up about 7 pounds since my last annual in early March, but I think a couple of those may have been prepregnancy. At least that's what I'm telling myself. No hb or u/s this time. :( Next time they'll start monitoring the hb at each appt (they said It was too early this time) and then I get one u/s around 18 weeks/

Jules, I'll play the belly shot game with you! Here's my 10 week one. I think you're a little bit bigger... :p

I'm so glad to see more people coming over!

yoganut sorry to hear you have to have an amnio. I'm sure hoping for good results for you and for the time to fly by!

chefker I noticed some swelling in my ankles the other day. With my last pgcy I swelled up really bad the last month, I was so swollen it hurt to walk. I would have people come over to my desk just to look at them, how embarrasing. I started to get a little worried when I noticed my ankles were a little puffy already but I also think it was due to the heat and humidity. It better not start this early! I have also taken Tylenol for bad headaches.

You can add me to the plus size ladies before pg! I won't be posting any belly shots either, at least not any time soon.

Jules & Elladee great belly pics!

It's funny you brought up the twins things. Twins do run in my family, I'm a twin, my grandma is a twin and my FIL is a twin. Since the moment I found out I was pg with this one I had a feeling it was twins. I had my 2nd appt today and asked spoke with the nurse about my intuition. She said I could tell the Dr that twins run in my family and that maybe she would give me an U/S. I knew she wouldn't. She came in and checked for the h/b, it took her more than 5 min to find it and then their it was, 170 bpm. I asked her if their was two and she said she only found one. So I told her I was worried that their was two and she said that I'm not larger than what I should be so she didn't think I was. The only way to know for sure is by U/S which is another two months away!! :( I thought she would schedule it with my next appt but she didn't so now I will have to wait until the end of Aug when I'm almost 21 weeks. Good news is that in the past 6 weeks since my last appt I lost 1 pound. I thought I had gained a whole bunch! That's another reason I don't think it's twins anymore.

Jackie&Tom great U/S pic!!

Well I stayed home with my sick son yesterday and now I'm sick. I don't know if I caught what he had but my throat was really hurting me this morning. It's better now but still sore. I didn't even think about asking my Dr what I could take for it. They did give me a list of medicine I can take while pg at my first appt so I will have to search for that.

Good luck to those of you who have appts this week. I don't go back again until July 26th.

chefker sorry you're not feeling well. I also have a cold right now which stinks, but I'll take it over feeling pukey any day.

Yoga That stinks about the results from the NT, but it really seems like your chances are so much better that things are fine. I have mine on Thursday and have already decided that no matter what the results, we're not doing an amnio. But you'll probably feel better with the peace of mind that you'll get because I'm sure that, that will turn up fine.

You'll be in my thoughts for the next couple of weeks!!

I was apprehensive to do the bun testing b/c I knew I'd be nervous if I was a high risk. My nurse called yesterday and said that my results, "Look Good". She didn't give me any numbers, so I'll have to ask for them at my appointment on Saturday.

Anybody thinking of getting a body pillow? I've already had some discomfort sleeping, so I was thinking of getting this one (http://store.babycenter.com/product/for_parents/maternity_pillows/3911) . However, we only have a queen size bed and I'm thinking DH will be on the floor :) He works nights, so I'd have the bed to myself half the week. We'll see!

I am most definately getting a body pillow! My DH bought me one when I was pg with my 2nd son and it was great! Now he uses it all the time and won't let me have it. It's all flat now so he can have it and I will by myself a new fluffy one, although he claims he will take that one. I think not! :D I don't know how we will fit two body pillows plus our bodies in a queen size bed though.

Yoganut I am feeling much better today, I took some Sudafed before bed last night (OK'd by Dr) and feel much better today. Great belly shot!

So, our EDD is Jan 19. What are the odds that Bebe would actually show up on the 20th? My guess slim, since I've heard firsts like to come late.

It'd be pretty darn cool if s/he did. Nate's and my first date was April 20, My b-day is Jun 20, His b-day is Aug 20, we got married on Oct 20..so a 20th born baby would be neat.

yoga, I responded to your other thread, but I wanted to tell you over here that I'm having an amnio next Thursday. I'll be exactly 15 weeks then. I'm pretty nervous about it, but my doctor has done thousands of them, and he promises me it's no big deal. It's not a procedure anybody wants to do, but I think it can be worth the peace of mind if you're at risk (as we both are). My risk is a good bit higher than yours ––*we have a 1 out of 33 chance that our baby if affected with a genetic abnormality incompatible with life, but I'm still feeling relatively optimistic (because of my husband's chromosomal translocation). Anyway, if your doctor is experienced, it should be very safe.

Dropping off a few belly shots...not much to see, but y'all, I swear, I am busting out of my clothes. These were taken at 13w2d:

Nice to see everyone else...

Went to SF this weekend to celebrate IL's 40th wedding anniversary. The party was fun but I have been sick as a dog. Throwing up 1-3 times a day and on Saturday I got the mother of all colds. Completely lost my voice and called in sick on Monday, still trying to recover.

Did do my prenatal registration on Monday so my first appt will be July 5th. DH is now thinking there might be 2 babies in there b/c of my initial high beta's and the fact I am so sick. Unlike Nikki twins do not run in either of our families.

Ole Miss Bride - Cute belly shots! Thanks for sharing them.

jjohm - Glad you made it over here too!

Body pillow - I bought just a basic one at Bed Bath & Beyond last weekend, and looooove it. I had the same one from my last pg, and ended up trashing it because it got all flat and funky. They are really cheap though...$9 for the pillow, and $9 for the cover.

japanese weekend - I don't know if any of you have checked out japanese weekend (http://www.japaneseweekend.com) maternity clothes, but they are fantastic quality, and their band on the pants actually keeps the pants up when you have a big belly (plus they are comfy). They are having a good sale online, so might be worth checking out. I ordered a couple tops today, for later ;)

Jules, I had spotting a little after nine weeks, and it totally freaked me out. Mine was bright red, though -- definite blood. I'm high risk, so I called my doctor and went in the very next day for an u/s. Baby was just fine, moving around and kicking in there, and the spotting was caused by a small intrauterine bleed. It eventually resolved itself and went away. I know it's scary as hell right now, but chances are great that everything is fine.

I meant to drop my u/s pics from this week by earlier, but I'm such a bum about posting, it seems! Anyway, here is the baby at 13w4d:

It's kinda hard to tell what's going on here, but can you tell that baby is sitting cross-legged? Those are the little legs crossed on the right side:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/13w4dcrosslegged.jpg

Here is Baby with his little arms up by his face. Such a sweetness.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/13w4darms.jpg

Can't see much in this one, but check out those fingers! Can you see them? The hand is in the middle:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/13w4dhands.jpg

Supah cool spine shot (that DH says looks like a fish). It's amazing how all if its little vertebrae and bones are already formed!

Ole Miss - Great u/s pics!!! :)

yoganut - i'll have to check out that website, thanks for posting the link.

So, having slight m/s this morning, but not TOO bad (knock on wood). I'm having more good days than bad lately---I'm at 10 wks. so maybe I'm almost out of the woods as far as m/s and exhaustion goes. I'm also starting to get some energy back.

That being said - I'm now feeling a TERRIBLE amount of guilt for not having exercised the past MONTH or so! I've kept myself busy with my veggie garden and lots of yardwork. But really that's the only activity I've been able to bring myself to do. I've just been so damn tired, I don't go to the gym like I've been used to. And I feel horrible, like I'm not helping my baby any by sitting on my a$$. :(

This thread moves fast! Welcome Julie and Cathy! Love the belly shots, Betsy and yoga.

Jules, sorry to hear about the spotting. It's probably perfectly normal and I hope it goes away soon.

Betsy, yay for more great u/s pics. I love them. That one of the spine is amazing!

chefker, I hear you on the lack of exercise. Before last night I have gone for maybe 2 walks and 1 bike ride the entire pregnancy. All I could do after work was lay on the couch and pretend to watch tv while I napped. But last night at 10w 2d, I had all sorts of energy. It was wonderful.

Perfect timing, too because my Amazon order with my pregnant workout DVD's came yesterday! I got:

Shiva Rea's Prenatal Yoga

tsmom, Betsy & elladee - Thank you for the reassurance! The spotting stopped last night and hasn't come back since. I called my doctor's nurse this morning and am now waiting to hear back from her about what to do.

Betsy - Love those u/s pics! Esp. the cross-legged one! Too cute!

chefker - 10 weeks is when my symptoms started to subside and I started getting more energy, too. Hopefully this is the beginning of a lot of good days for us!

elladee - I have that prenatal yoga video and really like it!

My spotting stopped last night and hasn't come back. I'm waiting on word from the doc on whether to come in or not. I'm going to try to take it easy today. Jules so glad to hear the bleeding stopped. Hopefully your doppler will arrive to day to give you more reassurance. I'm sure baby is just doing fine.

Beautiful u/s pics Betsy, as usual! :D

I'm 13 weeks today and still no energy! Am I the only one? Maybe it's because I'm chasing after two almost toddlers? (My DD turns 1 on Tuesday!)

Maybe if I start exercising I will feel better. I bought a pg exercise DVD while pg with my son but rarely used it. I tried it once and I thought it was pretty intense. Maybe I will try it again and just tone it down a bit.

nikki - Thanks for the reassurance! :)

update... I just talked to the nurse. The doc wasn't too concerned, but said if I was really worried I could bump up my appt date. Since the spotting was light and it has stopped, I'm not as concerned. I told the nurse that we are renting a doppler and if I have trouble hearing the heartbeat or if I start spotting again, I definitely want to come in. So, here's hoping the spotting stays away and I can hear babe's heartbeat! :)

jules1025 - I'm very glad to hear the nurse wasn't too concerned! Hope you're feeling better :)

Nikkid - I have NO engergy at all either! I commute 2 hours to work (each way) all week and I'm just beat by the time I get home! I swore I'd start some physical activity by the 2nd trimester, so I guess I better get in gear! I don't know how you do it with 2 kids!

elladee - I like how the Fit Mama work out sounds. Maybe I'll have DH get that as part of my belated birthday gift. Is it pretty low impact?

Betsy - As always - incredible pictures!! That's soo exciting :)

DH and I are going crib window shopping tonight. I'm really excited. The first time we looked I was only a few weeks. Tonight I'll be looking more seriously :)

I heard the heartbeat!! :D :D :D

The doppler arrived today - lucky me! It took me almost 10 minutes to find it, and I was starting to get worried and tear up. But, I finally found it. It was pretty faint, but I could definitely hear it. I am just so relieved and thankful. There truly is no sweeter sound. :)

Jackie and tsmom - Thank you!!

Jules that is wonderful! So glad for you!

Well I had my NT ultrasound today and it was so awesome! The babe was moving all over the place, waving, sticking it's butt up at us, and kicking! We saw the little heart beating away and heard it for the first time! We're absolutely elated! I swear I see a little girl part going on in one picture but we'll see. I got to schedule the big ultrasound for August 31st I'll be 21 weeks and I was hoping I could get it sooner but they won't even start until 20 weeks and we'll be away that week. Oh well, we'll know eventually!

Happy Friday all! So happy the weekend is almost here.

I tried the prenatal yoga video last night. I've never really done yoga before and was quite surprised at how bad I was at it. :o I can definately see how doing it a few times a week will increase flexibility, strength and stamina. All of that has to be a benifit during labor I would think. So there's my motivation. It was fun though, and I really liked the relaxation part at the end.

KRL626, how exciting that you got to see your baby!

Jules, congradulations on hearing the heartbeat! Glad that the spotting went away.

tsmom, glad to hear that you've made it 2 days without puking. Hope you feel better soon.

Jackie, how'd the crib shopping go? The FitMama video does get your heartrate up and I broke out in a slight sweat. But the movements are all pretty fluid and it wasn't so intense that I couldn't talk to DH while I was doing it.

I think that's everyone...

elladee -
Crib shopping was a little dissapointing!! The first time we went, we had no expectations and had done no research. Now that I know what I want - it wasn't as much fun! I guess it was the $800 price tags on some of the cribs that bummed me out.

I actually found a crib at Target.com that I really like...and it's only $250. Now I just need to find a free shipping cupon!

QOTD: What have you been craving??
So far, my biggest craving (this week!) has been peanut butter and apples! Wow, sooo good. I've never had that combination before!

It's finally cooled off here in Chicago. Upper 70's today!! Yay!!
Happy Friday all :)

I love PB and apples! It's been one of my favorite snacks for years. It's really a great combo because it's got both protein and carbs.

When I was newly pregnant I craved boneless buffalo wings from Applebees. I think I craved them for all of a week.

Then I craved milk. I could drink 5 glasses a day, I couldn't get enough. Then I got hit with morning sickness and can't even look at milk anymore (so I eat cheese/yogurt)

Now I have no cravings at all. But I can't eat sweets, they make me feel ill. I am really into fruits and veggies right now. I don't crave them but when I have them it's like heaven (especially pineapple).

Those wings are my husbands "sympathy" cravings. Everynight, when I say, "what do you want for dinner"...his answer is Applebees wings!! They are good, but I'm getting burned out!!!

The funny thing is we made our little friend while on vacation to Ossipee NH to visit the inlaws (my DH has this "thing" about being married and this allows him to have sex in his parents' house). While we were up there, MIL and I went to the outlets. This was 2 days after DH and I had our romp (ironically enough the ONE time we found time to have relations that month). MIL and I stopped at Applebees and shared a sampler. At the end of the week, we came home and all I wanted was those danged wings.

I had them but when we were leaving the restaurant, the smell of cooking steak made me gag and got me sick and I never craved the wings again.

We nicknamed our baby Ossie since it was made in Osspiee NH. I told my MIL the kiddo's mickname and she thinks we made it in a hotel room that we got one night in MA when we were visiting friends. I haven't told her we were so tired that all we did was sleep in that hotel room.

KRL626 & elladee - Thank you!

QOTD... I've been craving fruit and juice a lot lately. I want nothing to do with veggies, unfortunately.

Well, so much for disappearing symptoms... both nausea and fatigue decided to come back today with a vengeance. I feel like crap. :(

So funny!!! My Grandfather used to make this for me when I was 7. I would have it as a snax when I came home from school and he would slice up the apples and put them in one of those kinda translucent colored plastic tupperware bowls with a big dollop of pb! Yum!!!

The closest cravings that I have now are for ice cream!

Jules Sorry the symptoms are returning agian! Have a hoot at Dh's bday dinner - sure your friends will all be ecstatic!

Jackie - sorry the crib shopping was a little disappointing.... If ya want I get emails from Target all time for 10% off anything.... send me your email addy and I will fwd it to ya. We bought DD's crib from B-r-U and it was only like $170.00 - has worked fantastic - no complaints! So funny because dh always laughs at me, I spent more on her chair than I did on her crib :)

I wanted to make a quick post tonight before DH and I head out of town. Tomorrow we leave for our Vegas vacation. We decided to do a trip to Vegas before the baby come because that's the only place that we wanted to go where we couldn't take children. The whole pregnancy things still feels strange to me. I keep feeling like I'm only 6 weeks along still. Its probably because I haven't seen any big changes yet. Anyone else ever feel this way??

exercise videos--I got a couple of DVDs that I think are pretty good. I bought 2 Leslie Sansone walking DVDs. They seem like they are going to be very adjustable based on my fitness level throughout my pregnancy. I need to ignore Leslie sometimes when she is talking though cause her personality is kind of annoying.

tsmom--If you weren't sick for two days, maybe that symptom is just going away slowly. :)

jules1025--Glad to hear you found the heartbeat. I'm waiting patiently until my doctors appt on July 11.

cravings--I haven't been craving anything lately, but I have had some aversions. DH made salmon the other day and I couldn't eat a bite of it.

Happy 4th of July Weekend!!!

Exercise video-- I bought
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007CEX0Y.01._PE20_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It's Rocki's Prenatal Yoga Vol 1: Introduction. Of course I haven't used it yet :p but I did flip through it once and it looked good. I liked how it is an introduction (have never done yoga before) and there were other volumes for more advanced yoga if I want them. I saved a bunch by buying it from deepdiscountdvd.com

Dreams-- Anyone else having crazy dreams? Last night, the baby was a boy with dark hair. He slept through the night the first night we had him home and I thought something was wrong with him since he didn't wake up. But he was fine the next day! He was 3 days old and he was already holding his head up when I held him. We took him to someone's house for a 'playdate,' I have no idea why.

Happy 4th of July everyone! Our anniversary is tomorrow, and DH and I are going to celebrate today. :D

Double didgets for me :p ! We had a great 4th weekend - took a trip with 3 other couples and their kidlets to Napa. It was just beautiful there and we stayed at an incredible house (belongs to our friends parents). We hired 2 sitter on Saturday and the girls went to the spa while the boys played golf. I pretty much held it together all weekend and have been feeling a little better.

cravings--I haven't been craving anything lately, but I have had some aversions. DH made salmon the other day and I couldn't eat a bite of it. Me too - we had steaks on Saturday night and I couldn't even put it on my plate for some reason. Really still into ice cream and cold milk though.

Looking fwd to my first appt and wishing it was not so far away. Guess it is time for me to call the genetic counselor to talk about setting up an amnio appt.

Hope you all had a nice 4th -

11 wk 5 days...

my 12 week appt is this friday. i'm not sure if i'm scheduled for an u/s, but i sure do hope i get one.

the only dreams i had lately, go like this: i wake up, take a shower, and get going. i do all my chores, go to work, etc. etc. and then. i wake up and realize i didn't do any of those things. it's so disappointing! i have been dead tired a few times each day, like someone's drugged me. it usually happens once on the way to work (good thing i carpool w/ DH and he's the one driving), once after lunch, and once after i get home from work. i am *this* close to telling people at work that i'm pregnant...i don't want them to think i'm just lazy or a slacker.

cravings? mostly fruit and juice. the other day, i had some watermelon straight from the fridge and it was the most delicious thing i ever ate! i need to start eating healthy and exercize...

today, we're going to my jeweler's as a favor for a friend (she lives down in richmond and asked me to drop off her ring to get it sized). but, i can't wait to take a peek at all those pretty accessories! i'm trying really hard to give DH the hint that i want some (teeny tiny) diamond earrings for my "push present." anyone else have their gift picked out? or is it supposed to be a surprise gift? hehhehe.

take care everyone!!

Hey, ladies!

Cravings? For me, it's been tomatoes. I can't get enough of them! We went to Gulf Shores in Alabama for July 4, and I made DH stop off at a produce stand on the side of the road so I could buy my weight in tomatoes. And I can't stop eating them! With a little bit of salt, pepper and some yummy, creamy Italian dressing....mmmmmm.

I had my regular u/s yesterday, and the baby was so active! I could actually see it swallowing. It was so, so cool. After all that swallowing, Baby got a case of the hiccups, which was funny. So strange that I can't feel any of its movements, though.

My amnio is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, and I'm pretty nervous about it, but I have a lot of faith in my perinatologist. He's pretty much the best in the area, so I know I'm in good hands. Still, it's nerve-wracking, ya know? I'll be on bedrest for 24 hours after the procedure, and I think I'll just take it easy and be a couch potato for the rest of the weekend. If y'all have a spare moment, would you mind saying a prayer that everything goes well with my amnio? I'm pretty scared about it.

J&K2003, FWIW, I listen to the h/b daily, too. It gives me such reassurance.

So glad everyone is doing well!

-Betsy

I haven't really had any cravings, either. I've had random food that I thought tasted really really good while I was eating it. But I haven't had any strong pulls to start eating something, if that makes any sense.

I have had some really crazy vivid dreams, but nothing baby related. My father said he had a dream that the baby was a girl. It's totally not fair that my father gets baby dreams and I don't. :(

I am back from our 4th of July weekend holiday...we took Tuesday off as well, which was wonderful. We went down to San Diego, visited family, and took DS to his first parade! He loved seeing the horses and marching bands. So fun!!

tsmom - Napa sounds wonderful! What a nice way to spend the weekend. I'm around and doing well. Trying not to think about the amnio and focusing on the positives...99.5% that everything is fine. ;)

J&K - Happy Belated Anniversary!

jjohn - My DH did give me a 'push present'/Christmas present after DS was born. I did have to drop hints though. He gave me beautiful diamond studs, that I wear about every day. Doubt I will get anything with baby #2 though.

Betsy - You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope everything goes well tomorrow, and even more importantly that you learn that the miracle you are carrying is just perfect!

twomidnightblues - Your picture is beautiful...congrats!

cravings - I haven't had too much in the way of cravings lately...except last week I HAD to buy popcicles on the way home from yoga. That was kind of strange for me.

dreams - I have been having crazy vivid dreams from just before my bfp. That was a major sign to me that I might be pg...I went from sleeping really lightly (listening for DS at night) to deep sleep with vivid dreams. Definitely must be something to do with hormones.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

twomidnightblues what a beautiful picture of your baby!

Betsy I will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying that everything goes well for you.

KRL626 yeah on an earlier U/S and a level II, that is awesome! I think I still have to wait until the end of Aug for mine. :( Oh well.

Yoganut isn't it fun to watch them get all excited watching the parade? It was my 2 1/2 yr olds first parade too, he loved the candy! Glad you had a nice 4th!

jjohm hope you get to have an u/s at your appt on Friday. This is sad but this is my 4th pgcy and I didn't even know I was suppose to get a gift from DH. Maybe I should mention it to him this time.

cravings I have definately been craving fruit. That's the only thing that's been consistent, otherwise it changes all the time. I have noticed that my appetite has gone way down and when I do eat I get full right away. I guess that helps with the weight gain!

dreams I know I've been having some vivid dreams but I don't remember them right now. I did have a baby dream awhile back and it was that I had boy/girl twins. I saw what they looked like and even had names for them (although I don't remember them now).

I've been feeling pretty good lately, still tired but getting better. I was one of the lucky ones that never had m/s. I'm still wearing my regular pants but I think that's because they were big on me to begin with. They are starting to get a little snug in the waist. I'm not ready to break into my maternity clothes just yet. I have worn a couple of my maternity pants to work and everytime I do people comment on how my belly has really popped. The embarassing thing is that it's just my extra flab, not the baby. So I look a lot further along in maternity clothes than I really am. I'll try to squeeze into my jeans as long as I can.

Hey, ladies! Thank you so much for the kind thoughts. Yesterday's amnio went very well, although I freaked out a little beforehand. But the procedure itself wasn't very painful at all, and it was over fairly quickly.

My doctor prescribed moderate bedrest for 24 hours afterwards, but I think I'm going to be a couch potato for the whole weekend, just to be safe. Makes me feel better.

Anyway, just wanted to check in and let y'all know it went fine! I'll write more when I'm not confining myself to the couch. :)

Yeah Betsy! So glad to hear from you. You have been on my mind the last couple days. I am happy to hear it went well. And...I have some questions for ya. When you say 'very' painful, would you say there is just some discomfort but no real 'pain' per say? How did your DH do? I had a dream last night that my DH passed out when he saw the needle. Did you feel crampy or anything afterwards? You must be so relieved to have this behind you, and I just 'believe' you are going to get good results next week. Hang in there and keep those feet up!

Mrs Puls - Congrats again! So exciting!

Hey, did any of you hear a 'rumor' that Brittney Spears is pregnant with twins? The local morning news reported that it was in the NY Post or something. They said that she just found out. First, do you think its true? Second, how could someone just find out at 6 months that its twins? I am sure she has had thorough care...and probably a few u/s? So strange.

Is Britney Spears eating junk food for three?
Lowdown hears that the 23-year-old Mrs. Kevin Federline has just learned she will be giving birth to twins.

Yesterday Spears' rep, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, responded: "If she's having twins, I have not been told that yet. Let me make some calls." She never called back.

According to a Lowdown spy with knowledge of the situation, the revelation that they're facing twice the financial burden has made the pregnant pop tart clamp down on her backup-dancing husband's extravagant spending habits.

"Kevin's on a leash," says the spy. "He's been spending too much, flaunting his new American Express black card. She told him, 'We have bills to pay, this s- adds up.' He's got a bigger entourage than the guy on HBO! They all go golfing every morning."

The source also says that the 27-year-old Federline still isn't paying any child support to the babymama of his two children, actress Shar Jackson, whom he abandoned for Britney last year.

"Ninety percent of that is untrue," said Sloane Zelnick. "He does pay child support."

As for Kevin's earning power, "Britney and Kevin made $5 million with that UPN show, and there's a whole international back end," a source told Lowdown. "Kevin was on the tour to take the video, so I know he got paid."

But the Lowdown spy insisted: "He spends money like it's water, has no job to speak of, and I think Britney's starting to wake up and realize it."

Hmmmm I find it hard to believe that she just found out she is having twins.. puhleeze!

Ali - my amnio wasn't really painful at all. It was basically just like a pin prick and it really is over rather quickly. I did not have any cramping or anything like that the following weekend. Truthfully, I had to have a rogam (sp) shot afterwards and that hurt more than the actual amnio.

Betsy - glad that you are feeling good! Keep those toes up :)

****

Think I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. - Have not lost my cookies in about 4 days now and I am feeling better :D in general! Getting really tired at night and starting to have that weird popping noise in my pelvis (lovely I know) but this is all better than before. Hope you guys are doing well and that you have a nice weekend!

Yeah, I can finally get on! I tried again at work and this time I could get the the ATF but then when I tried clicking on ATF groups the page would not display, so frustrating! I think I will try Jules idea on Monday!

MrsPuls glad you made it over here and congrats again on the twins!

Jules congrats on scheduling your ultrascreen. Hope you can find out the sex then. I can't believe that Aakard found out the sex at 11.5 weeks at hers, that is amazing! And yes I get heartburn quite a bit. It's rarely as bad as you described but I do get it quite often when it's mild.

Betsy glad to hear your amnio went well. How long do you have to wait to find out the results? Take it easy and have a nice relaxing weekend.

Yoganut I didn't hear the rumor but I did see a tabloid at the supermarket that had a picture of her and then TWINS? next to it so I was wondering if it was a rumor or not. I have to agree, how can she not know by 6 months?

tsmom I hope that's a sign of your m/s going away. I feel so bad for all of you that had m/s. I was lucky and never had it with any of my pregnancies.

Tomorrow I'm getting my DD's 1 year picture taken, she turned one on the 5th. She went to the Dr today and had her shots, my DH said she did very well. Now just one more round in 3 mos and she will be done until kindergarten. Then I get to start all over with them again in Jan! I so hate that part, I can't wait until I'm all done with taking them in for shots.

Not much new going on with me. I've had a stuffy nose for quite sometime and received an email newsletter from baby center about pregnancy causing stuffy noses. Is anyone else having this problem? It's really driving me nuts, it's worse in the morning. This may be TMI but all the flem is in my throat and I just feel so plugged up like I can't breathe. I wonder if I could take something for it or if it would even work if it's pg related. This is going to be a long 6 months!

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend. It's going to be hot here so we may have to cool off in the pool.

Yoga, the anticipation before the procedure was 100 times worse than the actual amnio itself. I'm not kidding, I was completely freaking out beforehand. Like, sobbing and about to hyperventilate freaking out. My doctor told me if I didn't calm down, he wouldn't be able to go through with the amnio, so I managed to hold it together during the actual procedure.

He explained everything step by step as he went, and that helped. The pain was no worse, really, than having blood drawn. I felt the initial prick when the needle went in, and then I felt another poke when the needle pierced my uterus. That was weird, but not painful. I had some mild cramping when the needle first went through the uterine wall, but nothing bad at all. The needle stayed in about one minute while he withdrew the sample, and there was some very, very mild cramping. Like, VERY mild. My doctor uses a super thin needle for his amnios, so it takes him a little while to get all the fluid he needs. It was a clean tap -- no blood or anything in the sample -- so that was good.

I kept my eyes closed the whole time and pretty much held my breath. It honestly didn't hurt....at the most, it was mildly uncomfortable. My fear about hurting the baby was much worse than any of the physical sensations I experienced.

My DH is pretty squeamish, but he did okay. Mostly, he just watched me or watched the u/s monitor. He said he couldn't even see the needle on the u/s monitor, and the doctor didn't go anywhere near the baby.

Once it was over, my doctor showed me the baby's h/b again, so that was reassuring. Baby was moving around a good bit (thanks to my freakout before the amnio!), but it wasn't a problem, and like I said before, the needle was nowhere near the baby.

Since then, I've experienced some mild cramping here and there, but I don't know if I'm any crampier than I usually am. I think I'm just super aware of any feelings I'm experiencing in my tummy, so I'm a little hyper-sensitive to any crampiness I might be having. Honestly, I don't think I've experienced anything weird or out of the ordinary at all. I've pretty much kept to the sofa since the procedure, and I think I'll stay a couch potato through the weekend. I know you have a little one to run after, but if you could stay in bed for the first 24 hours afterward, that would probably be just fine.

So that's my amnio experience. Other than the fact that I got all emotional and freaky-deaky beforehand, it wasn't bad at all. Physically, it was easy. But I was pretty exhausted, emotionally, when it was over. I think I just wore myself out by getting so worked up.

When is yours scheduled? 17 weeks, right? I'll be keeping you in my thoughts. I hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did. Chances are, it will.

The nurse said we should have our results in about two weeks. Sometimes they come in sooner, she said, but we should count on the full two weeks. So now the wait is on. Ugh. The worst 2WW ever.

Hope that helped a little.

Hey Ladies,
I can't tell ya how long it took me to find this.

Terrys Wifey (Oct 2003Bride on WC)
Me: Kimberly 31
DH: Terry 33
Married: October 25, 2003
EDD: 1/7/05 although we are thinking about scheduling the
C-section in December
Gender: Yes we're finding out
Prediction: Girl

I have been doing okay still have my gagging moments, my m/s sickness has gotten better but I still have it.

I finally bought some maternity clothes: 3 pair of pants & 6 shirts I think 2 more pair of pants will be good for now. I don't want to have a closet full of maternity clothes.

We told my 9 year old and he is soooo excited, always asking questions, talking to my belly and comforting me in the morning when I have m/s.
He's so cute about the whole thing.

I'm 14 weeks today, DH and I are thinking about renting a doppler I was just wondering about the safety of it though.

My next appointment is July 25th

Welcome Kimberly!!! Glad you found us and that the m/s has gotten a bit better!

Betsy - so nice to read your amnio story and hear that all went well, I know it will be a long 2ww but I am sure the results will be perfect.

My dh isnt usually squeamish but he was standing beside me and watched the whole thing, when the doc stuck the needle in he turned sheet white and started shaking - it is actually funny now - not so funny then. The nurse had him go sit down  ! He was fine after and we actually went out ot town that weekend - just to Laguna, hung on the beach and took it easy.

Nikki - good luck with the pix and hope you nose clears up soon!

Welcome, Kimberly. FYI, I used a doppler every few days most of my last pregnancy and DD is just fine from it. I already rented one this time and I love being able to hear the baby's heartbeat. For me, it has brought me a lot of peace of mind. :)

Betsy - Thank you so much for sharing the details on your amnio. I think it will help me to have an idea of what to expect. My mom is coming up for the procedure too, to help DH take care of Rowan that weekend, and then help when I have Rowan alone for Monday through Wednesday thereafter. I am nervous about him wanting to be picked up. My ob really doesn't want me carrying him much normally (he's 25lb) so I am sure it will be a no-no the week after the procedure.

Nikki - I have had stuffiness from time to time, but not bad enough that I have needed to take something. I recall that sutafed or Tylenol cold is OK.

Kimberly - Welcome! So glad you found us!

Movement - OK, so this probably sounds crazy, but I am certain I have been feeling the baby for the past few days. At first I thought it was intestinal stuff or gas, but recalled that it felt similar to the fluttering with DS #1. Then, I noticed that it would only be in one spot at one time (didn't travel like gas does with me), another at another time and always the same sensation. Feels like light tickles from the inside. Now, I have felt it about 4 times today!! So wild! I felt DS#1 around 16 weeks, and I know they say you can feel subsequent babies earlier.

Bra rec- Oh, in our old thread I know someone asked about a comfy bra. I loooove this one by bella materna, and just bought another one today. I think it gives enough support for an expanding bosom but isn't constricting at all (right now, I am probably a good C). There are no clips or hooks to deal with either. Plus, it works for nursing after the baby. Just thought I would share ;) (By the way, there is no way the lady in the picture just had a baby :p)

Welcome MrsPuls! Congrats on the twins! That's exciting.

Betsy, glad to hear that the amnio went well. I hope the next two weeks go by quickly for you.

Nikki, I've had a horribly stuffy nose, too. I have seasonal allergies, so I'm not sure if it's from that or not. Who knows, but it is annoying.

Yoga, that's really neat that you can feel the baby already! It must feel amazing.

How exciting, Yoga. I swear that I have been feeling the baby for the last few days, too. Usually when I am laying still in bed. I felt DD at like 15 or 16 weeks so it could be the baby that I am feeling now. I think that since I've had a baby already, I know more what to expect. Of course the Dr. told me that there is no way I would feel this one any earlier than 16 weeks because I am heavier. Well he also said that I might not be able to hear the heartbeat at 12 with the doppler in his office. He was in shock when I told him I had been listening at home to the baby's heartbeat since I was a little over 10 weeks. Sometimes doctors don't know everything. LOL

Betsy~ I'm glad to hear the amnio wasn't so bad. I hope you get your results soon.

I am finally back. DH and I got back from Vegas on Wed night/Thur. morning, but I didn't have time on Thursday to get on the computer. Well, Thursday night my body decided to hate me and got sick. I couldn't hold anything in (including water, which drove me nuts cause all I wanted to do is drink water). Friday afternoon, I was finally able to hold in water. I tried to eat somthing for dinner on Friday, but that didn't agree with my stomach either and came back up. I went and saw a general doctor (I didn't think the sickness was pregnancy related) on Friday hoping he could do something to make me feel better (he couldn't). He had me go to the lab and take a blood sample and tested it for viruses. It all came back normal, except he said my blood sugar was high for a fasting blood sugar test. Does anyone know how long you fast for a fasting test? Cause it had been awhile since I had eaten anything due to being sick and all. I am feeling much better now. I have no idea what the issue with me was. It seemed really strange that at 12 weeks my body would suddenly have tons of prenancy related sickness. My only thought that it might have been food poisoning from something I ate. Has anyone else had food poisoning?

had a rough morning after brushing my teeth this really irks me b/c I want to eat breakfast but after m/s I just eat a few crackers and ginger ale. Ginger ale use to be my favorite soda I don't about it after this pregnancy. :o

McDonalds French fries, Big Mac, chicken nuggets
Pickled Sausage (ya know the red kind in the packs or in the jar)
Campbell's Chicken noodle Soup
Lucky Charms Cereal
Honey Nut Cherrios Cereal

Nikkid - Beautiful pictures of your daughter!! :)

yoganut - I felt a flutter last week and thought, "no way, this can't be the baby". But my book says this week you could start feeling a fluttering that feels like butterfly wings. How exciting!!

Question... Has anyone had very mild cramping or pressure? I've had some pressure for the last few days. Kind of feels like constipation, but it's not. I've had no spotting, so I'm not really alarmed. I'm guessing the pressure is my uterus expanding (since it's growing so quickly), but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same feeling?

My major craving the past week has been cherries! I just bought my 2nd huge bag of cherries yesterday and have finished almost half of them. Isn't there a horror movie (maybe creep show?) that has a girl that eats a lot of cherries and then vomits them all up (like violently)?? That thought keeps coming into my head every time I eat them, but I can't figure out what movie it was.

J&K2003, I am so sorry you're going through this scare! I had some bright red spotting around 9.5 weeks, and I about lost it, I was so freaked out. Turns out, the baby was just fine, and I had a small, intrauterine bleed. My doctor put me on bedrest for a few days, and it resolved itself fine. Some doctors don't even go as far as the bedrest route, but mine is super cautious, especially because I'm considered high risk.

Well, ladies, I had my weekly u/s appointment today, and everything looked perfect! The u/s tech said my baby has a "beautiful heart." We could see all four chambers very distinctly –– it was amazing! Baby was moving its little fingers around and wiggling and being generally adorable.

And then.....

I asked the tech if she could tell the sex. At first it was tough because Baby was sitting cross-legged. But pretty soon, Baby started kicking. The tech gasped and said "Oooh! I see something!" I kept asking her what it was, and she kept looking at the screen to make sure she was seeing what she thought she was seeing. And then she turned the screen toward me so I could see my....

LITTLE BOY!!!!

I can't believe we're having a boy. I'm just overjoyed thrilled about it, and DH is, of course, ecstatic. After I got the news, I raced by Wal-Mart and picked up a little blue hat that says "It's a Boy!" on it, wrapped it in a gift bag, and called him up to meet me for lunch. When I gave him the gift bag, he had no idea what was going on. He opened it up, saw the hat, and got this huge smile on his face. "Really? Really?" he kept asking. He was so cute....he wanted a son so much, and I'm just so excited that he's going to get a little boy. And me, too! Although I'd always imagined myself as a Girl Mommy, I couldn't be happier about this boy. *sigh*

We're still remaining a little guarded, as we won't have our amnio results until late next week. But everything looks so good, y'all, that I just have to believe our baby is healthy! Surely if something were really wrong we would have seen it on u/s by now!

Oh, I am just so excited today about my little boy. I can't even tell y'all. I just hope and pray he is as healthy as he looks.

Thanks for your well-wishes, everyone! It looks like everything's fine. The doctor wanted me to come in, and they checked the heartbeat (A-OK) and did an internal exam. They couldn't determine the source of the bleeding though. The doctor did say my uterus is the perfect size for how far along I am, cervix looks good, etc. and she said to continue trying to enjoy the pregnancy. Of course I still feel a bit guarded, but the bleeding seems to have tapered off. I hope it's over for good!!!

Ole Miss Congrats on the baby boy.

Appointment Update I had my second appointment today. It went very well. I didn't gain any weight since my first appointment (part of that maybe due to being sick on Friday). We also got to hear the heart beat for the first time. It was so exciting. Now I kind of wish that I was renting a doppler so I could hear it all of the time (I know I would be so addicted to it). My doctor estimated the hb to be 154 bpm. My next appointment is on August 1st, by that time we need to decide if we want to do the quad screen. I'm kind of torn on whether to do it or not, so I think I'm going to do some research on it.

Jackie&Tom ~ Yeh, I get the cramping/pulling sensation at times. Doc told me it's my uterus stretching, which makes sense!

meggers ~ Yay for a good appointment!

********************

So.....today sucked a bit, but all is well now. Had a crap day at work, and to top things off I started BLEEDING in the afternoon! Ugh. I did call my doc and explained everything that was happening. Doc said not to worry, since a) I didn't have any cramping with the bleeding, and b) The blood was brown, not bright red. I guess brown blood is older blood, or something. My next appt. is on Wednesday anyway, but if I have any problems tomorrow I am to call the office right away. And luckily, the bleeding didn't occur again--just that one time this afternoon. Weird, but alarming! I probably freaked out over nothing, but I just didn't know what to make of it!

I hope to hear the h/b Wednesday....I am about 12.5 weeks by then! :)
Not sure when my u/s will be. Seems around here, doctors schedule them for 16-20 weeks, unless there is some issue where it needs to be done earlier. I can't wait!

Congrats on you BOY Betsy! I bet that just makes it even more real now.

J&K so sorry to hear about your scare. Glad that everything is all right now.

I'm not sure if I welcome you yet or not but welcome Terrys wifey!

Jackie&Tom I've had mild cramping and pressure feeling. It's not constant but seldom their have been times where I sat up and I felt heavy down there, if that makes any sense. You are right, it's just the uterus growing to make room for baby.

Jules I'm not sure if I've heard of that movie but I don't think I want to see it.

meggers I would have to say that your sickness sounded more like food poisoning or something non-pregnancy related. I think I had food poisoning once, it was never confirmed. I was sick for 24 hours and then fine. Glad your appt went well.

tsmom sorry to hear you dd is sick. Both my sons had fevers the past few weeks, not at the same time of course. Something must be going around. Hope she is feeling better.

chefker glad the bleeding stopped. I just had a dream last night that I went to the bathroom and their was bright red blood on the tp. That's all I remember. I would probably freak out too even if it is brown. You should be able to hear the h/b at your appt. I was 12.5 weeks when I heard the h/b for the first time, although it did take her quite awhile to find it. But I am a little on the heavy side so that may be why. :o

Not much new with me. I layed out in my pool yesterday and fried the front of my legs and my chest. Thank goodness we could wear shorts to work today. I haven't had any problems lately, I think I might even be getting some of my energy back! I don't believe I took one nap this weekend. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a stuffy nose. I think that it may be getting better. Who knows, maybe I did have a cold. I'm so jealous of those of you who have felt some movement already. I can't wait for that. Even though I've had previous pgcies my last couple I still didn't feel movement early on. I was closer to 20 weeks, maybe it was because I had extra padding. I think with my son though they told my it was because of where my placenta was placed. I would have to wait until he was able to kick stronger to get through the placenta before I could feel them. I so cannot wait for the U/S. My next appt is in two weeks and then we will schedule it which will be another 4 weeks from then, so I'm looking at another 6 weeks! I can make it. :D

I hope everyone has a good week and hopefully we won't have any more scares.

I ate some cherries last night about 9pm... went to bed at 11:30pm... woke up at 2am with horrible heartburn. And, today - had one lean pocket (turk, broc & cheese) before school... 3 hours later, I had heartburn. It doesn't matter how much or how little or WHAT I eat, I've been getting nonstop. I ate some strawberries an hour ago, and I have it again. :( I need to talk to my doctor about that at my appt this week.

On a good note - I bought some maternity clothes! :) I ordered them online, so I'm anxiously waiting for them to get here. I cannot fit into any of my bottoms anymore, so I hope they get here soon. OH - www.gap.com is having a big sale on maternity clothes (and free shipping for orders over $100)!!

buying baby stuff... We haven't even started thinking about buying baby furniture or clothes yet. I think we've been waiting to get out of the 1st trimester first. So, come this weekend, I'll be in the 2nd tri and we'll start thinking about that more.

Baby Stuff... We haven't bought any baby stuff yet. I think we will start buying things after our u/s in August.
We plan to buy the crib in a couple of weeks though.
We have a friend staying with us all of August, so once he's gone, we'll probably start painting the nursery.

Maternity clothes... I made my first purchase last night! My pants are getting uncomfortable, so I bought a pair of jeans, work pants and a pair of yoga pants. I wear cami/tanks under everything, so I got two of those. I'm anxiously awaiting the shippment!!

I'm on a conference call - so I guess I should go :)

Have a good day ladies :)

Sorry I haven't been posting much. I have been lurking though.
Today is one month since we have moved from St. Thomas and it has been a whirlwind! last week we went on a road trip and bought a house 6 hours away! it's 15 minutes from the beach and we love it. we close when I am 20 weeks. My best friend bought a house there too! She will be 15 minutes away.

the baby is doing great. I went to my 12 week appt on Monday (shouldn't they call it the 14 week appt??? :) ) we heard the heartbeat for the FIRST time! Couldn't believe that it was the first time. It was 140 bpm. Down from the 11 week ultrasound of 170.2. I ordered a doppler last night and can't wait for it to come in.

We are pretty stressed out right now. Moving twice, buying a house and getting ready for baby is pretty stressful though!

I felt pains and pulling a lot last weekend but the dr. checked it out and said it was the round ligament pain and growing pains. It's so strange i barely felt anything in 1st trimester and now I feel so many weird feelings in my abdomen now. i also felt a flutter a few days ago. Not sure if it was gas or baby.

I want to get the consumer reports baby buying guide before I buy anything.

btw: I did a google image search for baby photos at 14 weeks and found these neat photos. check it out:

hope everyone is doing okay!

I've finally let the cat out of the bag at work. I had told my boss a couple of the ladies here, but they'd kept it quiet. Now everyone knows. It's kinda fun to have a fuss made over me. :D

Maternity clothes... I have one pair of pants, but I really should get more. I keep trying to buy/order some, but I'm having lots of trouble justifying to myself even a $30 pair of pants becasue I'll wear them for such a short time. I think I have unrealistic expectations about this. I am going to the outlet mall with a friend tonight, and I'm going to drag her into the Motherhood store there. Maybe I'll find something...

Baby stuff... I haven't gotten any either. I don't expect to have to buy much between the showers and hand-me-downs. Plus, I need to see what I get that way before I go spending too much of my own money. (Can you tell by these last two topics that I'm cheap :o)

jasonsgal, holy cow, you've been busy. Congrats on the house, though! That's exciting.

Jules, sorry to hear about the heartburn. Ugh, that's not fun at all. I hope your doctor has something to make you feel better.

Betsy - Congrats on your baby BOY!! I am a little behind, but wanted to let you know that I am so excited for you.

chefker and J&K - I am glad everything is OK. How scary! Take care of yourselves.

Jules - Heartburn is rough. I get it in the afternoon, but it tends to be manageable. I usually take a couple Tums, and it gets better. I hope it gets better for you.

jasonsgal - Wow! You sure have been busy. Congratulations on the house, it sounds wonderful.

maternity clothes - I have a bunch of hand me downs from my friend that I swapped with when I was finished with my own the first time. She bought some nice things when she was pg with #2, so I lucked out. I have bought a couple things too, but am trying to keep my spending in check.

Baby stuff - I don't really need much this time (especially if this one is for sure a boy), which is good and bad. Good because I won't spend much $$, bad because its so much fun to shop for baby things ;) I did buy some PBK twin bed-size bedding off ebay that coordinates with our baby set, since the kiddos will share a room. I don't expect DS will be in a twin bed for a while though. I will also be in the market for a double stroller :p

I had my regular ob appointment today. We talked about the test results from the ultrascreen, and I kind of lost it. I am still so stressed about them, but trying to relax as much as possible. She didn't seem especially concerned, and seemed a little surprised that I was getting the amnio. (She must have forgotten that we talked about it on the phone a couple weeks ago). We listened to the hb, which she said was good. Its funny, she had a hard time finding it because the baby was so high - close to my belly button. I guess they usually don't hang out that high at this stage. I gained 7.5 lbs in a month...which I find shocking  I didn't feel like I had gained that much. The ob wasn't worried though (I am up 12 lbs since before getting pg)...about the same as last time.

Thanks for all the congrats on my house! We are really excited. ;) We will be first time homebuyers, which is always an exciting thing.

I just got my babybeats heartdoppler and we tried it out, no luck. I went to FAQ and it's best to have a full bladder and of course I peed right before I tried it. Running that thing across my abdomen didn't feel so good...am I the only one? I felt a sharp pain as if I could feel the ultrasonic wave and it bothered me. Does this make any sense? I know it didn't feel good but I can't explain in words how it felt. Anyone else know what I mean?

We are going to take a break and try again later.

jasonsgal

I heard it!!! I waited until my bladder was full and that was the ticket. bpm ranged from 140-145!

still felt that weird feeling though.

Oh Karen, that's so great that you were able to hear the heartbeat.

Yoga, I'm sorry to hear that your apointment was rough.

I feel very blah today. I'm headachy and really tired. I just tried to eat my usual afternoon snack of yogurt, but I couldn't do it. It was making me gag. Strange. On the positive side, I went shopping with a friend last night and got two pairs of maternity pants! One pair of jeans and one pair of black dress pants.

I'm supposed to be working right now, but the air conditioning in my part of the building is not working very well. So, I am dying of heat right now and having trouble concentrating on work.

maternity clothes DH and I stopped at an outlet mall on Saturday to see if they had a maternity store. There was a motherhood maternity store, so we went in to see if they had any good deals. I ended up buying one pair of pants and five shirts. The next day my parents were passing through town and my mom gave me three shirts (aren't moms great sometimes :))

baby stuff We have a few items already. We bought the bedding set in the beginning of June. I had been looking at bedding since the time that we found out that we were pg. DH was hard to please with bedding sets. He didn't like any of the themes and he didn't like anything that was too pastel. We were out looking at USA Baby one afternoon and found a bedding set that we both could agree on and found a good price for it online, so I figured we should go ahead and buy it. I also got a sleeper from my mom when I saw her this weekend.

jasonsgal Congrats on finding the hb with the doppler.

QOTD Is anyone thinking of having a natural birth with no drugs?
I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I will be giving birth at a hospital with an OB, but I was thinking that I might try to go without the epidural. I mentioned this to DH last night. I think that he thinks that I am strange for wanting to go without, but he said he would support me with whatever decision I make.

jules1025

One order of my maternity clothes arrived today. The pants fit really well, but the tops are a little to big around the tummy area (perfect fit for my bbs though). But that's ok... I can still wear some of my pre-pg shirts with these maternity pants (they have no panel).

My second OB appt is tomorrow!! :)

jasonsgal - Congrats on the new home purchase! And, congrats on hearing the h/b! :) When I use my doppler, I don't get those pains you're describing. It's mostly uncomfortable b/c I'm pushing on my belly while I have a full bladder.

elladee - Congrats on telling everyone at work! Today was the first day I told everyone in my graduate class that I'm expecting. (I equate that to my job since I'm going full-time. Hehe.) It was weird to have everyone know that I'm pg. I even caught a few people trying to look at my belly... do people at your office do that?

yoganut - when is your amnio? I am right there with you on the weight gain! I'm not as far along as you are but I'm at 7 pounds since getting pg right now. I wouldn't be surprised if I was at 12 by the time I'm where you are.

natural birth... I am going to try to hold out as long as I can before getting an epidural. I don't know if I could go completely natural. Heck, maybe I will! But, I'm not going to get it set in my mind that I want a natural birth and then be disappointed in myself b/c I couldn't do it. KWIM? Y'all are probably going to think I'm crazy but I was really interested in having a water birth until I found out they don't do those at my hospital. Bummer.

elladee
07-15-2005, 06:40 AM
Jules Ack, yeah, I have caught people looking at my belly. One girl actually asked me to turn sideways so she could see. It is fun, though.

Natural Birth I keep going back and forth on this one. On the one hand, I want to not be a wuss and do it without drugs. Plus, the thought of getting an epidural (and the cathader to go along with it) scare the heck out of me. Alot more than actually giving birth. But on the other hand, I don't get a tooth drilled without the drugs, so why should I do this without drugs?

My doctor's office has midwives as well as obs, so I could go the natural way with a midwife if I wanted. Plus, some of the rooms in the hospital I'm going to have jacuzzi tubs. Not for water birth, but to help ease labor. I bet they don't let you in them once you've had the epi...

AOTD: natural childbirth????
I AM such a wuss so I definitely want an epidural! I am nervous about the shot but the idea of feeling the pain of tearing down there or feeling an episiotomy makes me sick to my stomach.

QOTD: Do you plan on having anyone else in the delivery room besides DH? My best friend REALLY wants to be there but I am unsure about it. For you ladies that have been through this what do you think?

hope everyone has a great day! Happy Friday!!!!

Childbirth... I'm not going to try and kid myself - there is no way I could do this naturally. I have the lowest pain tollerance!! I am scared of the epidural, but like jasonsgal, I am more afraid of the paint of an episiotimy!

Other people in the room... It will just be me and DH, and the thrawls of doctors! I wasn't sure how I felt about family in the room, but DH feel pretty strongly about it just being us. Which is just fine with me! I like the thought of DH going to the waiting room and telling our famly that the baby is here :)

Doula... I have been thinking about a doula though. I saw one on A Baby Story and it really sparked my interest. Even though I'm not going to go natural, I like the idea of a labor coach. I think I might look into it some more. Anyone have any thoughts on doulas??

Looking at the belly... A few of my close co-workers do. Since I was plus size before the pregnancy, it's pretty hard to tell where the fat ends and the baby starts!! Once I'm showing more, I'll feel more comfortable with it :)

Happy Friday everyone!!! Can't wait to go home for the weekend!! :D

Other people in the room~ No way. I want just DH (and maybe the doula - see below) with me. I really feel like this is a special moment for just the two of us to share. If labor's going well, I wouldn't mind other people in the room to distract me and pass the time, but for the birth, I want it to just be DH.

Doula~ I'm not sure yet, but I'm leaning towards yes. I've heard only good things about them. I like the idea of having someone there who I have already met, who's experienced and focused directly on me. I think it would take some of the stress of DH and I because we'd have someone there to guide us through the process. How the heck am I supposed to remember all the suggested labor techniques when I'm in the middle of it all? We've never done this before. I worry that she'll get in the way of the bonding between DH and I, but the experiences I've read say that's not the case at all. I need to look into it more, and find out what's available in my area, so we'll see.

Childbirth I am definately having an epi, if their is time. I've experienced with drugs and without and I prefer with! My 2nd son I went too fast to get one and with my DD I told the nurse right when we got there that I wanted to have one but I went to fast with my last one to get one. She said she would have everything set up and ready so when I could have one (at 4 cm) then they would be ready to go. So I had my epi right when I turned 4 cm and right when they were done I was ready to push. I labored 3 hours with my 2nd son and 2 hours with my DD so I'm kind of worried how fast I will go witht this one. You will all think I'm kind of nuts but I would like the labor to last a little longer so I can enjoy the moment. Not so much the pain but the last two times it went so fast that I didn't have time to get excited about the baby finally arriving. KWIM? I know, I'm crazy, now I probably will have a 20 hour labor just for saying that!

Other people in the room It will definately just be DH and I. That is how we always had it. We actually didn't even have any relatives waiting in the waiting room because I went so fast.

Baby stuff we have pretty much everything we need as far as furniture goes. Although I would like to get a double stroller just like yoganut. Having two 18 mos apart will be tough so it will be nice to not have to worry about one running away. I will need to get more clothes though, my DD was born in the summer so if it's a girl I will need winter clothes. My DS was born in Dec but I think I got rid of a lot of his clothes because I thought we were done. That's ok though, I love shopping for baby!

We will go with the same OB that delivered my other 3. I've been happy with her and I figure why change now?

I have noticed a few people looking at my belly but since I'm on the larger side I think they are mistaking my spare tire for the baby. Just like Jackie I don't know where the fat ends and baby begins either! LOL It's kind of embarassing because some have said wow you have really popped when actually it just a fat roll.

I will have to do s/o's later, we are leaving for Omaha after I get off work. We are going on a mini vacation and taking the boys to the zoo. It should be a fun little get away. Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

I had my 2nd OB appt today. Just heard the h/b and the doc measured my belly. The h/b was 161. :) When we count it at night (on our doppler) it's usually around 150. I have my ultrascreen / nuchal fold test on Monday.

There is something weird going on with my bbs. I showed them to the doc and she said they looked engorged. And, below my nipples, they look red and possibly bruised. The doc said that that's what mastisis looks like - IF I were breastfeeding. She didn't seem too concerned though. I guess they are just growing too fast. I'm already busting out of my newly purchased C-cup. :( Anyone else having breast issues like this? They are really not a pretty sight.

other pp in delivery room... I need to talk with DH about this. It may just end up being only him. But, I've been thinking I'd like to have my mom in there with me. I want to see how he feels though.

Nikkid - enjoy your vacation!

Drugs? Or no? I'm undecided on this. I like the idea of an unmedicated labor because I would feel more in control of the situation. I don't like the idea of having a catheter in my spine, and I don't like not being allowed to move around freely if I want to. Also, I worry that if I'm unable to feel what's going on, I won't have the instinct to push with my contractions, and I'll be more likely to tear. I'm definitely going to do some reading up on unmedicated childbirth.

Maternity Clothes Y'all, I am having such a time with maternity clothes -- mostly with tops. I'm tall (5'9") and relatively small-ish (size 4 pre-pregnancy), so it's been tough for me finding shirts that are long enough to cover my tummy, but small enough to be fitted and cute. I ordered a few small T-shirts from Old Navy, and they're okay, but still a little tent-ish. Meh.

People in the delivery room? Probably not, unless we hire a doula (which I'm interested in). Maybe....maybe my mom, but I can't imagine anyone being in there other than my husband and me.

Our receptionist asked me today if I'm pregnant -- that was fun! She is the first person to really notice. I think other people in my office are too scared to say anything, for fear that I'm just getting fat! Hee. My pregnancy isn't really a secret, and everyone in my department knows, but I haven't made a big announcement of it or anything. I figure I'll be more open about it once we get our amnio results back.

And speaking of amnio results, we should have them by next Thursday. Less than a week to wait. I'm sure next week is going to be an anxious one, as we'll be coming down to the wire. I've bitten off all my nails! Y'all wish me luck that everything is okay with our little boy.

And thank you all so much for the congrats on our baby boy! We're so thrilled! And Kelly's Girl, you're so sweet to stop by with your congrats. :)

nikki I hope you have a good time in Omaha (that's where DH and I live :) ).

Other people in the delivery room ... Dh and I have talked about it, and we won't have anybody else in the delivery room.

General Question Do most hospitals have single maternity rooms?? Or does it vary a lot? I was just thinking it would be strange to share a room with somebody else.

Drive by post -

Jules - Have not had that happen but think I am solidly moving into "D" range! Yikes! -Congrats on your 2nd appt and babe's strong hb!

Nikki - hope you had a great time at the zoo - I am sitting here waiting for DD to wake up so I can take her to our zoo... not incredible but it will be fun for her.

Yoga - Sorry for the rough appt., It will be done and over soon and you will be able to enjoy the rest of the pg knowing that all is just dandy with R's little brother!

Betsy - I have the same problem as you do with all the shirts being too short (I'm 5'8") Surly not a size 4 anymore but close  For a while I have gotten away with bigger regular shirts but now they are starting to look silly. Will be thinking about you till Thursday!

Meggers - when I had DD we had a double room but Dh stayed there.... I guess if they were really busy I would have had a roommate but we were there for about 4 nights so it was good to have the extra room.

People in the room? No Way!! MIL was really bent last time because I would not let her come in - she did stay with me while I labored (which didnt matter b/c I was so out of it) I was actually glad she was there to keep from getting too worried and to keep him company. When we moved to the delivery room it was just me and dh (and the slew of dr.'s).

Meds - Bring em on! I had to wait for my epi way too long last time and it was not so pretty!

**********

Had my first appt on Friday, it was with a NP and there is only one baby! We kinda thought there might be two and we would have felt blessed but this is more what we planned on. The baby looked good, did a quick u/s - had a nice hb 160 - was placed well and the placenta was attached in a good local. She said we were right on with the dating so my official due date is 1/29! Dh was really sad that he had to miss it and called like 6 times on his way to CGO.

Went to the genetic's counselor after and I have my amnio scheduled for August 15th, I will be 16w. My Ob does not do them anymore so I have a Perintologist that I know from when I had T. His bedside manner is horrible (no perosnality at all) but he is supposed to be one of the best.

My next regular appt and my first appt with my ob is August 29th.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Hi everyone! I updated in my LJ, but not here...oops! :) Anyway, I had my OB appointment on Wednesday.

According to the doc, everything looks fine, and I got to hear the HEARTBEAT! It was the most incredible thing. Now I'm tempted to rent a doppler so DH can hear it as well! :) Oh, and only ONE h/b was detected...but we'll know for sure if it's one or two, when we have the u/s (which will be late Aug/early September). I'm thinking it's just one, but dang...my uterus is just BIG! But, my due date could be off, which would explain that. :)

Childbrith ~ I have a feeling I'll go for the epidural. I would NOT want an episiotomy, unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary though. I think most docs don't do them anymore? Not as much as they used to, anyway.

People in the room ~ Just me, DH, and any medical personnel. I do NOT want the whole family in there, that's what the waiting area is for. I'm sure they'll understand, since I'm sort of modest by nature anyway!

Betsy ~ My shirts are ALL fitting horribly lately. My pre-preg size is 6-8, but I'm very busty....so as the 'girls' are getting bigger, my shirts keep riding up! lol. I am only 13 weeks now--and the other day wore a really big maternity shirt for ha-ha's. It looked NORMAL on me! lol

Jules ~ Ah, to be a C cup again....I'm spilling out of my D cups! Which is my normal size. This could get scary if I go to double letter bra sizes!

I just realized that I never posted pictures of my most recent u/s! So here y'all go -- proof that my baby is, in fact, a HE. :) BTW, these pictures were taken at 15w4d.

And here are a couple of face shots. Right here, he's looking at the camera head-on. Very alien baby, isn't he? Hee. And you can kind of make out chambers in his heart. Very cool.

And here's his sweet, little profile:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/15w4dprofile.jpg
It looks to me like his mouth is open in this picture, but I'm not sure if you can tell.

I have my regular u/s Monday, and we should receive our amnio results by Thursday. My RE wants me to make an appointment with a regular OB for some time in the next two weeks. I'm kind of sad to be leaving my RE's office! They've kept me much longer than they keep their regular IF patients, due to our "special" circumstances, and I've gotten so spoiled with all the monitoring and weekly u/s's. It will be strange to be with a regular doctor who doesn't give u/s's every week.

tsmom, do you mind if I ask why you're having an amnio? I know you had one with your first baby, but I can't remember if you said you have any sort of markers or genetic issues or anything like that. If you don't want to talk about it, I understand.

Hope y'all are having a lovely weekend!

Hey ladies,
I am headed to the doctor at 11:00 I started spotting last night (brownish discharge) it was on the TP. I'm not experiencing any pain or anything we went to Kings Dominion Saturday and it was HOT!! I just walked around and drank lots of water. I had a VERY BAD headache and a mild one on Sunday.

I didn't notice any spotting this morning but am freaking out so I called my doctor's office and they told me to come in just to be safe.

Ladies please say a prayer for me and my lil one. I can't even function at work right now I'm on the verge of tears.

Thank you all in advance for the prayers, I'll give an update when I get back from my appointment.

Hey Ladies,
I'm back from my appointment, my lil jelly bean is doing GREAT!!! he/she is very active. I didn't see my doctor since this was an unschedule visit so I saw this male doctor but can I say I just love him!! He was sooo nice and bubbly (which is what I needed whether it was sincere or not) he checked my cervix which was nice and tight and closed, he saw no blood or discharge on the gloves.

He then listened to the heartbeat with the doppler and the heart was good and strong 145. He then asked if we wanted a sonogram just to check things out and maybe check out the sex so we did.

I first had a vaginal ultasound to make sure the cervix and placenta was okay then I had the abdomen and the baby was kicking and wiggling his/her fingers.

He/she is measuring right on target, she tried her hardest to see the sex but couldn't see anything.

My DH met me at the office he was so nervous poor thing he couldn't stop sweating and kept chewing gum spitting it out and chewing some more, he couldn't stop shaking his leg, but once he heard the heartbeat and saw the sonogram he was happy.

My schedule appointment is next Monday I still have to go in for the test for spina bifida and downs syndrome (I forgot the name of the tests)

I swear this baby is giving me a run for my money, but to have it come here healthy and happy it's so worth it.

Anyway, thank you ladies for your prayers and concerns it really means alot to me. I am just so thankful that we are okay.

I had my ultrascreen test done today. The u/s was so awesome! Our little one looks like a real baby now! :D The babe was moving all around during the u/s. It was so cool to see. I'm still amazed there is a baby inside of me! We didn't get an idea of the sex (boo!), but we'll find out at the end of August. Here's a few pics from today:

Terrys wifey - SO glad that everything is good and that you got to see the baby! :D

Jules - you have one beautiful baby there! Congrats on your photo!

AOTD: I am in my 2nd trimester -- everyone should be right?
----

I have still been feeling really good. Feeling a bit emotional lately but nothing too bad. (don't ask my DH though - who knows what he would say!) :o

i bought a new bra a couple weeks ago and it's already getting tight. It is hurting me right now! I had a feeling this would happen so I only bought one. I can't believe tomorrow is 15 weeks, it is FLYING by! I have been pregnant for 98 days today with 168 days to go.

my baby measures 4 3/4 inches long today and weighs 3 3/4 ounces having more than doubled its dimensions in two weeks. (taken from the pregnancy journal).

We took a belly shot which i will post later today. I feel as if I'm so big but I looked at the photo and I don't look that big.

hope everyone has a great day!

terryswifey, so happy to hear that all is well. Glad your DH managed to survive as well. :D

jules, very nice pictures!

Karen, can't wait to see the belly shot. I feel a lot bigger than I look too.

Thread Title I am 13 weeks today. I think that means I'm in the second trimester. It's fine with me if you want to change the name.

Like I said, I think I start the second trimester today, but I feel more nausous than I have in a while. To make matters worse, I think something died in the freezer here at work, and the smell makes me want to throw up. So I can't get any ice for my water. I like water to be really really cold. Oh well.

So glad to have found you all again!! I've been so lost in the WC 'shake-up'! :D Glad to see we can do things like show u/s again without having to scoll around to see them! Does anyone know about tickers yet? I miss mine with a vengeance.

Mrs. Puls - TWINS?? Good for you though!! I don't know if I'd be able to handle it. DH freaked out at my 1st. u/s... they had a brochure for the area twin group right there in the u/s room. It didn't even dawn on me til he said something that there could've been more than one and we would know then.

I'm glad to hear everyone else is doing ok. I'm sorry for those of you who've had spotting episodes. I feel like I'm an old spotting veteran, since it's happened 3 separate times to me so far (around the time of AF, which I guess is NOT normal), but everything's been fine with me too. I know it's impossible to not freak out and worry, but do know you're not alone, and it almost always doesn't mean a thing :)

Congrats also to everyone who knows gender! I can't wait, only 3 more weeks til I find out (hopefully)!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Just about one more hour till lunch time here, and that means the week is half over. (In case it's not obvious - I've been having a really hard time finding the motivation to work lately.)

Hi Jen! Glad you managed to find us.

Great belly jasonsgal!

I want to show off my 13 week belly shot. I've been taking one every week, but they haven't changed much since the last one I posted. Then all of a sudden this week I have one that looks like a pregnant belly!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/lisaanne14/2005%20Pregnancy/05071913wBellyShot.jpg

This weekend DH and I are going backpacking with a friend of his. I love backpacking, but I'm a little nervous that I won't be able to keep up anymore. I can't let my heart rate get up too high and I have to keep my breathing under control. But we're only going to do about 5 miles each day so I should be able to handle it. We just may have to take more breaks than they'd like. I told DH that I wanted to go again sometime in the fall with my big belly. I'd love to have the stories and pictures to share about that!

I'm sorry to post with bad news, but I'm afraid I have to. Our amnio results came back yesterday, and they are not good. Our baby boy has the unbalanced version of my husband's balanced translocation, just as we feared. The good news is that he appears healthy, but the bad news is that he will experience significant delays. He will be mildly to moderately retarded and will function about like a Down's Syndrome child. We are devastated. This is not what we expected for our son or for our family. This is not what anyone expects.

I'm not sure I'll be around here very often anymore. I'm having a very hard time with this, and it's painful for me to watch other women experience healthy pregnancies and rejoice over their normal babies. It's totally my issue, and I hope y'all understand.

I'm sure we will come to terms with our diagnosis eventually, but for now, we are grieving for the child and family we thought we were going to have. Our lives will be very, very different now.

Good luck to all of you. I wish you all healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.

Cute belly shots everyone jasons gal and elladee I wish I had a cute belly like that. I think I actually felt my uterus growing last night. I was having menstrual cramps on both sides of my uterus and in my lower back. It wasn't too bad but a little umcomfortable. I slept like crap last night. It was so hot in my bedroom. I swore the air quit working but my DH said he was just fine. I don't know if the heat just turned up in my body or what but I just feel miserable.

Meggers I didn't know you lived in Omaha. I've only been their twice and both times it was to go to the zoo. I wish we had a nice zoo like that here. It was so hot so we didn't even get to see everything. Plus my two year old was being a two year old so it wasn't the funnest trip I had been on.

terry's wifey sorry to hear about the scare but glad to see that everything turned out OK.

Juleswed what a cute picture of your baby!

Not too much new going on here, I've been on vacation all week so I've been home with the three kids. I have to admit I had not been looking forward to this week but so far it has gone pretty well. We have been keeping busy each day so that makes the time fly and they have been pretty good which has surprised me. Usually my two year old does not listen to me.

I have my next appt on Tues and can't wait b/c we get to schedule our BIG u/s then.

It's going to be scorching hot here today so hope everyone tries to stay cool!

Nikki ~ I've gotten the crampy feeling too, doc said it is probably my uterus stretching. It's disgustingly hot where we live too, ugh. Thankfully today is less humid. Glad I'm not 9 months pg in this heat!

Last night I had a dream that I had my u/s (which won't be until August or September, anyway), and they told me it was a boy. Interesting, since I have had a strong 'girl' feeling from the beginning. Oh well, it'll be cool to see either way, if my intuition is right!

Welcome Amie!

Well, DS gave me a miserable sinus cold so I was working from home yesterday. So far I feel a little better today, though now I seem to be coughing. I called the amnio doctor yesterday to make sure I could still have the amnio on Friday, even if I have a cold. They said as long as I wasn't coughing. Grrr. I really don't want to put this off any longer, but of course I don't want to do it if there is going to be additional risk to the baby. I am supposed to call this afternoon. I wonder if they want to make sure I don't cough during the procedure, or during recouperation?

I think I recall that the doctor is away next week, so then we won't be doing it for a while, unless I switch to another fetal medicine specialist.

tsmom - I remember you saying that you had a good perintologist for your amnio. Would you mind sharing his name, in case I need to reschedule and my doctor isn't available during the 16-18 week window? You can email through my profile if you feel more comfortable.

Glad I'm not 9 months pg in this heat!

Me too! I was there last year! Although the heat was not as bad last year as it is this year so I got lucky. I was still miserable though. Thanks for reassuring me those cramps are the uterus stretching. I thought that's what it was but since I had them in my lower back I was just slightly concerned. I didn't have any spotting so I wasn't too concerned. The weather is suppose to get really hot here the next few days and we are suppose to go to a minor league baseball game tomorrow night. I don't know if I will be able to stand the heat. I better make sure I drink lots of water.

yoganut sorry to hear you have a cold. Hopefully you will get over it soon so you can have your amnio this Friday and get it all behind you. I would think that they would be concerned if you coughed during the procedure, wouldn't that be dangerous if the needle was close to the baby? I guess that was what I first thought. Hope you feel better soon.

Just got back from having lunch with a friend. Haven't seen her in a long time although we email a lot. She has been trying to get pg for awhile now and is currently in the 2ww. I so hope this is it for her. Now the kiddos are napping which means I can either take a nap too or stay up and watch Baby Story on TLC. Hhmmmm........decsions. :D

I've been having the same discomfort/cramps and they've had me a little nervous. Just like Nikki, I haven't had any spotting, so I didn't feel it warranted a call into the dr.

I have my next appointment a week from Saturday, then I'll be scheduling the big US too!! We can't wait. I think we'll be finding out the same weekend as our anniversary - very exciting :)

It's horribly hot in Chicago this week. Yuk! It's supposed to be almost a hundred degrees on Sunday. I guess I'll be spending time in the house! We have a friend staying with us in August, so I guess this would be a good time to clean out the guest room/soon to be nursery closet. Then, when he leaves, we'll start decorating!!

It's almost Friday! Yay!!

We are finally getting some relief from the heat this weekend. So far this summer we have had more days in the 90's than we had in the 80's all summer last year. It's awful.

I've had some cramps/pulling feelings lately as well. I had them a lot in the begining (and the dr said it was perfetly normal as long as there was no bleeding to accompany it), then they went away, and now all of a sudden, the last couple days they've been back. Oh well, I figure it's just growing pains.

Welcoms Amie!

Yoga sorry to hear you have a cold. I hope you get over it quickly and get to have the amnio tomorrow.

Well, I guess it's comforting to know we're all going thru these 'growing pains' right now. I guess it's supposed to be happening about now??

Wow, Jackie!! Thinking about starting to decorate the nursery! I guess that leads into a QOTD: What theme are you planning/thinking about doing the nursery in? I bought a classic pooh set years ago (so sad, I'm not even sure we were really TTC yet...) and we recently bought a pooh stroller from Target. I'm not really advertising my theme though, so gifts won't be over the top pooh... I couldn't handle that. The room is already a moderately pale yellow, so I won't have to paint :D

I hope you all have a great Friday and stay cool this weekend!!

I guess that leads into a QOTD: What theme are you planning/thinking about doing the nursery in?

We have a few themes we're considering, but we'll have to wait until the big u/s to pick one :)

Right now, these are on our list of choices: plaids, suffari, bee's, frogs, dragonfly, police cars....
I also don't want whatever 'theme' we use to overrule the room. We'll see once we decide, but it looks like the only theme items we're considereing is a wall hanging and a the bumper. I don't think we'll get the comforter since we won't use it...but maybe we'll hang it on the wall??

We still have over a month until we start painting - so lots of time to think about it and over plan!! :) (Yep, I'm a compulsive planner!)

I finally found my way over here. My first appointment went well last week and the doctor moved my due date up to Jan 24. She couldn't find the heart beat so I got to have an ultrasound that afternoon. The baby was perfect looking and measuring just about right. I had an ultrasound this week too for the nuchal fold test. The doctor said everything looked good, but I haven't gotten the official results yet. Hubby came with and was very impressed by how recognizable the fetus is as human. I think it's finally becoming a little more real for him now. My next appointment is on August 9 when I guess we'll talk about scheduling the big ultrasound to find out the sex. Surprisingly, my mother is upset that we want to find out the sex. I told her there was a very easy solution, we simply wouldn't tell her the results. :p

As for the QOTD, I've had the crib bedding I want picked out for months now. It's got koi on it and I think would go very nicely for a boy or a girl. I've got a few other koi accesories, but I'm not going to go wild with it. I think the walls will stay mostly white and I'll have Hubby paint an accent wall with vertical stripes in different colors, aqua, green, yellow etc. We're not use how long we are going to stay in this house, so I don't want to do a lot of permanent decorating.

To Betsy, if you are reading along, you and your husband are in my thoughts. I wish you the best.

Thank you ladies for keeping me in your thoughts yesterday! It really means a lot.

We did the amnio and it went really well. We first met with a genetic counselor who went over our ultrascreen results with us again, and had us sign a consent form. She was telling me about how amazing this doctor is (he has done over 30,000 amnios) and that women fly in from all over to have him do it. That was definitely reassuring.

We had to go back out to the waiting room for another 45 min then! Grrrr...he does all the u/s and amnios himself, so the wait is price you pay. I was getting really nervous. Then, they finally sent us back - and it was all over and done with in under half an hour.

My mom and DH were with me, which was so comforting. They started with the u/s and checked out all the organs and measurements. The doctor said that everything looked great! Then, they set up and did the actual amnio. It only took about 2 minutes, and didn't really hurt. More felt like someone was poking around at my insides (and kind of reminded me of my c/s in that respect). I didn't look at the needle, just focused on the u/s screen and saw the needle in the sac. Kind of crazy. I am laying low, and my mom is taking care of DS. Its hot and boring...but I can't really complain.

Oh, and the baby is MOST DEFINITELY a BOY!!! and a big one at that. I am still measuring a week ahead, and the doctor said they would want to do a size estimate toward the end since DS#1 was so big (9lb 3oz).

I am just so relieved to have the test behind me, and can't wait to get the results in 8 days.

Themes - We had a PBK stars and moon theme with R, and I recently bought a coordinating PBK star and moon twin bed set to use as a 'big boy bed' set for him. Poor baby will get hand me downs from day 1.

Yoganut I'm so glad the amnio went well for you and congrats on another little boy! It's so exciting that people are beginning to find out what they're having!

Well I have major catching up to do. DH and I just got back from our trip to Japan yesterday. It was wonderful, but the 13 hr. flight there and back was agonizing! I was up stretching my legs every hour and drinking tons of water to keep hydrated so I didn't really sleep at all either way.

While we were there I am almost sure I felt the baby move. It felt like a fish wiggling. I know it wasn't gas because I get a ton of that and know how it feels. It seems kind of early, but I'm pretty small so maybe not impossible. Anyway, glad to be back. Have a great weekend everyone!

yoganut~ so glad to hear the amnio went smoothly. Take it easy this weekend and congrats on your 2nd boy! I have two boys too and they have so much fun together, even though they are 6 years apart! :D

KRL626~ welcome back, how awesome to go to Japan! I can't imagine flying for 13 hours, that must have been miserable for you. So cool you felt the baby already. I'm sure it will be a few more weeks for me since I have a little extra padding. ;)

sophonisab9~ glad to hear you first appt went well and you got to see your baby. I think it's so amazing how early they look human. I don't believe I ever heard of a someone being disapointed that you want to find out the sex, it's usually the other way around. Like you said it's an easy fix by just not telling her.

QOTD Unfortunately this will be our first baby we will not get to do a nursery for. We only have a 3 bedroom house so the two boys are sharing a room and Kaitlyn has the other. We are still not sure what the living arrangements will be like once this baby comes but I do know he/she will be sleeping in the bassinet in our room for the first 3 months. I'm hoping this baby is a girl not only because then it will be even with 2 boys and 2 girls but then also the two girls can share a room. Once the baby is big enought to sleep in the crib I don't know where he/she will go. I don't know if Kaitlyn will be big enough to sleep in a bed by then. It will be awhile before we can afford to move to a bigger house. If we could only win the lottery!

That's what I was thinking!

It was a hot hot weekend. Spent a lot of time inside, relaxing on the couch!!

I cleaned out my closet - very depressing!! I had gained weight in the last year, so it's not even like the pregnancy is an excuse. I packed about 3 big containers of clothes that won't fit me for at least a year! Our closet is sad looking now!

QOTD: Are you all having god parents?

We're not religious, but we will have godparents. My bestfriend will be the god mother, but we're having some problems with the god father. DH is an only child and I have one brother (who we're both close to). I want my brother to be the god father. DH has a cousin who he is very close to and wants that to be the god father. Even though we're not religious, it bothers me that the cousin in athiest. I don't think it will be as big of an honor to him. I know it would mean the world to my brother. We only see this cousin about 1x a year, so the relationship wouldn't be there.
I'm rambling - but it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Happy Monday Ladies!

I'm here! We went camping this weekend and had a great time. I managed to keep up just fine, too! The only pregnant lady issue I had came yesterday morning. We had to put all our food up in a bear bag overnight. I woke up at 7, stayed in the tent till about 8. I got up wanting to eat of course, but I couldn't get the bear bag down by myself. No one else would wake up, no matter how much noise I made at the campsite. Finally, by 9:30am, I was so hungry and frustrated that I was crying (pregnancy hormones, right?). DH finally caught on that he should get up and get me food. The world was a much happier place after that.

Yoga, glad to hear that the amnio went well. Hope the results come back quickly.

KRL626, wow Japan! That must have been awesome. How neat to feel the baby, too.

QOTD - Nursery - I don't know yet. We have 2 bedrooms right now, the extra is the office. We will be moving the computers downstairs, but we're going to have to keep all our books, filing cabinets, etc in there. So it won't be a dedicated nursery. We'll probably paint the walls white (they're an ugly tan/gold color now) and get some cute bedding. But I doubt we'll do any more than that. We're planning on buying a house next spring or summer, so we'll have more room then to do something special.

QOTD - godparents - Again, I don't know (I must be the most unorganized, underprepared mother-to-be ever). More than likely yes, but we haven't talked about it yet.

I'm here. DH and I had a very busy weekend. On Saturday we went and got our new 7 week old miniature schnauzer puppy. He is such a cutie!!! Getting the puppy took the whole day (breeder is 4 hours from us, then we had to stop a bunch on the way home to visit people). On Sunday, DH and I were busy the whole day watching him and taking him outside to potty every 1.5-2 hours or so.

QOTD-Nursery: We will be doing a fairytale/castle theme. We have purchased crib bedding with castles on it (I think it is Brandee Danielle). I am also thinking of doing this mural, but without the princess on it so it is gender neutral (Sorry the image is so big).

QOTD-Godparents: I don't know that is something we haven't talked about yet.

Hello, ladies!

Since I last posted about our less-than-great amnio results, we've been consulting with an array of geneticists and maternal fetal medicine specialists, and we've been all sorts of busy! The good news is that our diagnosis is not as dire as we originally thought. Although we're pretty positive our son will probably experience some developmental delays, he is in perfect physical health. We are so, so relieved for that. As far as his delays go, we just won't know until he is born. It could be very mild.

His appearance should be pretty much normal, and we're relieved for that. Not that it matters, of course - I'd love him if he had two heads! - but I do want things to be as easy for my son as possible. And he'll have enough struggles with school and learning, so I don't want him to have to struggle with his appearance or with having other children make fun of his looks. I am very glad to know he will look like a normal little boy.

So we're moving past our initial shock, and we're starting to feel happy and excited for our boy. He might be a little bit different from the “dream baby” we had anticipated, but that's not exactly a tragedy, ya know? Our “dream baby” was just that - a dream. And our son is very real, and we have to make sure we are ready to care for him and encourage him to grow and blossom to his full potential - just like any other little boy. While we don't really know what's in store for us as far as our son's delays go, one thing is certain - he will be loved, and he will live in a home filled with joy. And he will have two parents who will make sure he has every opportunity available to him. We will love our son for who he is, not grieve for who we wish he could be.

So if y'all don't mind, I'll be back around here. I just needed a few days to process everything, but I'm feeling hopeful and positive, and I'm ready to continue with my planning along with the rest of you. There are nurseries to decorate and things to buy and childbirth classes to take! And I'm so excited for all of it!

Sorry to write such a novel, but I just wanted to let y'all know what's going on. I'm so glad to see everyone is doing well.

Betsy - Soo glad to hear you're feeling this way!!!
Obviously, the day you found out it was a such a surprise, there is no way you could have had these feelings right away.
Like you said, he'll be perfectly healthy physically, which is soo important.

Anyhow - I'm glad you're back and feeling better :)

My Mom is starting to plan the baby shower. She wants to have it on Oct. 22 or 23. Does this seem really early to any of you? I was more comfortable with the first or second weekend in November, but she says that's too late with the holidays and all.

We're not doing a typical baby shower, but making it more like a party. That way, my Dad's side of the family (which is mostly males) and James's friends can come. This is the first grandbaby for both sides of my family, so I wanted to make sure everyone is included.

We finally purchased the "Baby Bargains" book yesterday. I need to start reading through it and figure out what we want/need to register for. I feel so behind!

Betsy - So glad you are back! :) And, I'm glad to hear things are still hopeful that the developmental issues may just be mild. I really hope that's the case!

yoganut - So glad to hear the amnio went well! Congrats on your Boy!! :D

nursery theme... We have no idea! We want to find out the sex before deciding on a theme. Truthfully, we haven't even discussed possible themes. Again - I feel so behind!

godparents... No, we're not religious.

Betsy ~ Glad to see you back here! :) Also glad to hear things are not as bad as initially feared.

yoganut ~ Congrats on your BOY! So glad to hear the amnio went well.

meggers ~ that mural is AMAZING!!! If our nursery wasn't already done, I'd love to do a castle theme.

Jules ~ Hm, October is sorta early for a shower. But I think my mom was initially aiming for October as well, due to weather considerations. Since we live in New England, mom wants to have it before it's snowing and too dangerous for everyone to drive. Yuck. Right now it sounds like she's torn between October & November.

Nursery theme- It's already painted in a very cute moon & stars theme (previous owner did this, not me!), I love how it looks so I'm not going to change it. here it is:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4d730b3127cce9fb9f06c1b4800000016108AZtWbNk0ctO

I also like the Classic pooh decor, maybe I'll get some bedding that matches the room.

Godparents--haven't thought about it yet, honestly!

******
Today has been kinda crappy. I have had a throbbing headache all day, and a low grade fever (100 degrees). I took one Tylenol, was really paranoid to take ANYTHING, but the doc had said Tylenol is OK. Feeling a little better now, but I need to go lie down again I think. I think this bug, whatever it is, will be out of my system by tomorrow--hopefully!

Thanks for the congrats on our son! We got 4-d u/s pictures again, so I am going to try and scan one. They also gave us an avi file of the 4-d u/s and at one point the baby is making a peace sign with his fingers. I am going to try and get my brother who is a tech whiz to make a jpeg of that frame. It is hysterical!

I am doing well after my first day out and about after the amnio. I ended up with a cough starting on Sunday, and am a bit nervous about how that is impacting my recovery. Apparently, it can take a few days for the hole in the sac to heal.

Question for Cathy and Betsy (or anyone who had an amnio for that matter) - did you experience some added 'moisture' in the days following your amnio. I am so paranoid about it being fluid leaking. The forms said that can happen a little, and I called the dr after I started coughing. He said as long as I don't feel like I lost my urine down my leg (interesting way of putting it  ) I am OK. I just wanted to see if either of you had experienced this, and for how long.

Betsy - I am so so happy you are back here. I have been thinking about you a lot, and what you wrote made me cry. You are an AMAZING mommy already, and he is such a lucky boy to be a part of your family. I am so glad that the prognosis looks good as far as his health and delays.

KRL - Welcome back from your adventure. And that's great about feeling the baby. The way you described it is the same way I would - that fish wiggle feeling.

elladee- I am so impressed with your backpacking. DH and I do quite a lot of outdoor stuff, and I am feeling too whimpy to go camping these days.

meggers- Neat idea for a castle theme nursery!

Jules- I don't think its too early for a shower. I was due in December last time, and had showers in September and October.

chefker- I love the painting! As I mentioned, I am already a stars/moon theme fan. PBK had some great patterns that would go with that. I think they discontinued them, but I have seen them on ebay. Hope you feel better.

Thank you all for the warm welcome back! I am feeling happy and optimistic, and I'm excited about keeping up with y'all through the rest of our pregnancies.

Ali, I didn't experience any sort of odd discharge or anything following the amnio. Just stay off your feet as you can, and if your doctor isn't worried, I'm sure you're fine. FWIW, a friend of mine started leaking fluid after her amnio, and it resolved itself with bedrest. Not saying it's fluid you're leaking, but it's always good to hear stories where, even if something goes wrong, it ends up being no big deal. And I'm sorry I didn't congratulate you sooner on your little BOY! Yay for boys!

chefker, that nursery is absolutely precious! You are so lucky to be able to move right into such a darling room without doing any of the work! I LOVE IT!!!

jules1025, I am likely having a shower the weekend of Oct. 28-29. Kind of early, but it's the same weekend as my 10-year high school reunion, and all of my high school girlfriends want to get together and do something for me while they're in town. I think a shower for you that early would be fine.

Well, it wouldn't be Monday for me without u/s pictures! Our u/s this morning was great, and Baby looks absolutely perfect. Everything measures on target, and my doctor was very pleased. These shots were taken today at 17w4d:

Here's his sweet, little profile:

Funny, little Skeletor Baby face:

Five perfect fingers!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/17w4dhand.jpg

Baby was sitting cross-legged (as usual), with one leg tucked behind the other. You can make out his little toes peeking out behind his leg -- see where the arrow is pointing?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/17w4dlegs.jpg

And check out that foot!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/umbetsy/17w4dfoot.jpg

He's perfect. :)

Question for y'all. Anyone else feeling movement? I've been feeling baby since 16w5d, but it's been very subtle movements. Like little, rolling flutters. DH has been able to feel him kick twice, but it's not very often his kicks are evident through my tummy. I love feeling him move -- it's the wildest thing ever!

Betsy, I'm so glad that you got some positive news and are feeling more optimistic. You've got positive thoughts coming to you from all over the place.

The puking continues for me, which is getting very old. This is week 14. I'm officially in the 2nd trimester. I should be done with the puking.

I spent sunday morning looking at formal maternity wear on line. My BIL is getting married in October and Hubby is the best man, so I need to look good. I just wasn't find much that looked appealing and the choice is even more limited in the plus range, which is where I am. I was hoping for some inspiration, maybe something I could have made by a seamstress, but I didn't really find anything. Not to mention I have no idea what size I'll be then. So far i haven't really gained any weight and all my clothes fit pretty much the same as they did before. Maybe things are a little snugger in the waist, but all my waist bands were loose before, so it's hard to tell. Add to the issue that I'd like to be able to wear the outfit again in early december for Hubby's formal office Christmas party.

No godparents for us, though we will designate by will the guardianship arrangements we would prefer.

Question for everyone? I have been having a lot of pressure around my bladder and it is really bothering me. It's not painful but just sensitive. Anyone else experiencing this?

Betsy, I'm so glad that you came back and that things are looking better for your little guy. You have a great attitude and I'm sure your baby will thrive with the love you guys have for him. Great u/s pictures as usual.

chefker, I love the room. You guys really lucked out. Our extra bedroom is actually done for a kid, too. It's a carosel horse theme. But it's pertty gaudy in my opinion (think gold accents) and the walls are full of nail holes. So we have to redo it.

sophonisba9, I'm sorry to hear that the puking saga continues for you. I hope it goes away soon. Good luck finding a dress, too! We also have a wedding to go to in October. I haven't even started thinking about it yet, though.

KRL626, the only bladder issues I have is that I have to go all the time. I hope that whatever you have goes away soon.

So today was my second doctor appointment (I feel so far behind all of you). I got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! That is amazing! It was going at 160 beats per minute. I've only gained 1 pound since last month. Doesn't seem like enough, especially since my stomach is noticably bigger. The dr didn't seem concerned, though. I scheduled my sonogram for Aug 24th. Can't wait for that.

KRL626, I read your post and the first thing that popped into my mind was bladder infection. It can't hurt to call your OB. An unchecked bladder infection can get out of control pretty easily during pregnancy, and I think it can even be dangerous if it gets too bad.

cece, thank you so much. :)

I am likely having a shower the weekend of Oct. 28-29. Kind of early, but it's the same weekend as my 10-year high school reunion, and all of my high school girlfriends want to get together and do something for me while they're in town.

I could have written this myself, except I'll be having my reunion/shower the 15th of Oct. I didn't really think it was too early; I'll be well into 6mos by then. I do live out of state too, so I think it would be tricky getting more time off, taking another 8 hr drive, and competing with the holidays and weather. An aquantaince invited me to her shower to be held when she was maybe 3-4 mos along. I didn't go on principle (and b/c I don't like her much :p )

My big u/s is in 2 weeks!! I'm so happy so many of you have found out!! I can't wait.

Glad to see you back, Betsy. You and your positive attitude would definately have been missed.

QOTD: Godparents... Tricky issue. We're not religous either, but we think it would be nice to have godparents. We're friends with another couple who are very religious and we helped each other thru TTC and IF issues. I think they'd make excelllent godparents, but I don't know if our friendship would last if we were to move. I know my best friend would also like to be godmother (I'm her daughter's godmother), but she lives 8 hrs away, and we only get to see each other a few times a year at best. She might also be offended if I choose anyone else. So, like I said, tricky.

Betsy Thank you. I would have never considered that. I'm trying to get in touch with my doc right now to see if they can test me for that. By the way I'm really glad you've decided to stay around. You're little boy is such a wonderful blessing and a miracle considering all the challenges you and your DH have faced. I'm happy we get to celebrate with you!

Hey Ladies,
My appointment went well yesterday, heartbeat is strong, blood pressure is fine, urine is fine and I am still at only 1 lb weight gain for the entire 4 months!!! I guess the baby is nesting in the fat mommy has on reserve LOL!! I told my doctor how I have no appetite and I have this fear of eating meat sometimes b/c I fear it is undercooked.

He assured me everything is fine, that b/c I was overweight prior to pregnancy that he doesn't want me to gain alot of weight anyway and as long as I drink plenty of fluids, take prenatals and eat small meals through out the day it's fine. They did more blood work to test for Spina Bifida and Down's Syndrome.

It's crazy b/c last night I cooked baked chicken with cream of mushroom sauce, rice and green beans and I ended up eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich with cranberry juice. Today we're having a pizza party here at work for being #9 on the The US News and World Report top 10 ranking for pediatric hospitals. I'll try and eat that if all else fails I bought in my lunch (last night dinner).

Next month is the BIG Ultrasound I'm praying we are able to see the sex.
I have NO ENERGY!! what so ever, this weekend I planned to clean the house I swear I get up every Saturday throw in a load of laundry, vaccum and in 2-3 hours I am down for a nap for 4 hours!! then I get frustrated b/c the whole day is gone and all I want to do is sit and watch HGTV.

sophonisb9 - When I read your post, I thought of this dress that is through watters & watters. I don't know how you order them (through a bridal shop maybe?), but I thought they were really cute for a maternity dress. I came across them when we were searching for a dress for my mom (Mother of the Groom).

My brother is getting married 10/15, and I am in the wedding. I am probably going to be rather big at that point, and have to get the dress reconstructed. Its off the rack from Ann Taylor. I would love to be able to order something like this instead, but ah well.

Good luck dress hunting!

elladee and terrys wifey - congrats on the great appointments!

Well my doc seemed unconcerned. She said it was likely round ligament pain from all the stretching my uterus is doing. She also said if I had a UTI I would either have pain when I peed or notice funny discharge or smell in my urine. I don't have either of those. So I guess I'm just going to keep an eye on it. I do have to say, I feel like I am in a growth spurt. My tummy seems to be getting bigger every day. I am completely out of regular bottoms and scored some comfy maternity capris and jeans at Old Navy for $2.97 each! You guys may want to check it out. They are having a huge sale here.

yoganut

I noticed more of the 'moisture' today and decided I should check in with my regular ob. She said for me to come in, so they could check whether there was a leak in the amniotic sac. They did some test looking at the alkaline level, and it came up as positive - the doctor said means that its either amniotic fluid or a bacterial infection. We did an u/s and saw there was lots of fluid around the baby, so if it is a leak, its a very slow leak.

Soooo...I am on bed rest for the rest of the week. I am also taking an antibiotic. The ob didn't seem overly concerned, and said that the leak should heal itself and everything will be fine. I am going to work from home using my laptop. Otherwise, I think I would go crazy from boredom. ;)

Betsy~ so glad to have you back here with such wonderful news! I love that pic of his little toes, so cute!

Meggers~ congrats on the new puppy. My sister is wanting a miniature schnauzer. That mural is so adorable!

Jules~ I don't think late Oct is too early for a shower. With my first pregnancy I had mine around 4/5 months only b/c I was finishing my semester at college and moving back home and my friends wanted to throw me one. I never did get one from my family until I had my 2nd baby.

chefker~ how lucky you are to have your nursery painted already. That is such a cute theme! I hope you are feeling better today.

yoganut~ I'm glad your doc doesn't seemed too concerned. It sounds like this will heal itself with some bedrest. Take it easy this week and let us know how you are doing.

sophonisba9~ sorry to hear that you still have m/s. I hope you are not one of the unlucky ones who has it during their entire pregnancy. Hopefully you will start to feel better soon. Good luck with finding a dress. I was in a wedding at 8 mos with my DD but luckily the brides mom made our dresses and she made me a maternity one.

elladee~ yeah on such a great appt. I had my appt today too and my u/s is scheduled for 8/23 so we are pretty close!

Jen~ I'm so jealous that you get to find out the sex in two weeks, I still have 4 weeks to wait. Hopefully it will go fast, I doubt it though.

terry wifey~ glad to hear your appt went well. It sounds similar to mine today. I have lost 3 lbs since I've been pg but I also think the baby is what did you call it? "nesting in the fat mommy has on reserve". LOL My dr didn't mention anything about me losing weight so I'm sure she's not concerned since I am overweight to begin with. I have no appetite either which is probably why I have lost weight.

KRL626~ that's good news that your dr's not concerned about it being a UTI. I've had those and they are not fun. You will definatley know when/if you get one. Hopefully the pain has gone away for you. I also feel like I had a growth spurt this past week. I could almost feel my uterus growing, very strange.

godparents~ maybe I'm an idiot but are godparents just for those who are Catholic? I'm not Catholic and I never had godparents myself nor has anyone in my family. My DH was Catholic and he has godparents. I know when we get the kids bapitzed we have sponsors that we need to pick which I think is similar to godparents. As far as that goes we have not decided.

Well I had my 3rd appt today and it went very fast. I have lost 3 lbs since I've been pregnant which was a surprise to me. I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised since I haven't had much of an appetite lately but I thought I would have gained at least a little weight. The h/b was going at 163 bpm, my DH came along this time so he was able to hear it. Then we scheduled our BIG U/S which will be Aug 23rd! I can't wait, I sure hope this baby cooperates. It sounds like a lot of us will be having u/s around that time. Not much new to report here except that I can definately tell I'm growing. I'm not sure but I think I may have felt the baby move a couple of times but I don't realize it until after the movement stops and then it doesn't move again. So then I think it's just my stomach gurgling. I'm sure it will be soon when I get to feel that first flutter when I know for sure that's what it is. Can't wait!

Betsy-- So glad that you're back! I'll be sending up lots of prayers for you and your little boy.

yoganut-- Hope things resolve quickly and that you'll be back on your feet soon!

KRL626-- Thanks for the Old Navy tip! I think I'll head to their website and check it out.

Had my second OB appt today. Strong heartbeat, good-sized uterus. :D They found bacteria in my last urine sample, so now I'm taking a vaginal antibiotic. Hope that resolves soon. I also had my blood drawn for the quad screen; results should be in by the end of this week or early next week. Next OB appt is 8/29, along with our big u/s! I can't wait to find out the gender, and to see how our little baby is doing in there!

Yoganut- Take it easy this week. I'm sure eveything will be fine, but never hurts to have an excuse to put your feet up. Thank you so much for reminding me of Waters and Waters. My wedding dress was actually a bridesmaid dress from them. I will definitely check that out. I think I would have to order it from a bridal shop and time might be getting short. If I remember correctly, they need ridiculous lead time. I'm hoping that by september I'll have a better idea of what kind of shape I'm going to have. I might just keep wearing regular clothes for a long time, which would simplify the dress situation a bit.

My mother has always told me that she was sick all 9 months and my grandmother was sick all 9 months times 5. Needless to say, I'm an only child. Except for the puking I really feel pretty good, but I hope the puking doesn't continue for much longer. My next appointment is on August 9th and if I'm still sick almost everyday, I'm going to let the doctor prescribe something for me. She offered a script at my first appointment, as when she walked in I was throwing up in the trashcan, but I didn't accept as I thought it would be over soon and it wasn't THAT bad.
