Subscribing! Thanks for the new thread! Can't believe 6 months is just around the corner! Just waiting for the night I get to sleep through the night again. He was only up twice last night...but I'm sure he was tired from the 4 times he got up the night before!

James got pro photos taken yesterday! I can't wait for the photos! We got them taken here: www.newbornphotography.com

Is anyone else's baby desperately trying to crawl? For a week now, when I put Asher down on the floor on his back, he flips over, raises himself on his arms, raises his legs and butt, tries to move...and gets frustrated and starts to cry. Which means I can't leave him on the floor for very long because I'm constantly having to pick him up and calm him down. Which means I've been carrying him even more than usual (and I carried him a lot anyway.)

I'm kind of concerned, since, um, to say my apt. isn't babyproofed would be a huge understatement. And we don't have a ton of floor space, so I keep having to make sure he doesn't hit his head turning over.

Not to mention, he gets so keyed up by his new development that he can't wind down at the end of the day. By 10 PM, he's very tired, but also agitated, wakes himself up repeatedly, and for the last three days, he hasn't gone down for good until midnight or so.

Though I can't complain that he slept from midnight until 6 last night. These days, that's a great stretch for him.

Fun times around here.

Hey Ally, I noticed that our birthday-twin babies also have the same carrier! Another baby at her daycare also has the same one so we always keep her Sassy bugs on there so we don't get mixed up.

Dreshny: Trying to crawl??? Wow!

happy1nuv

dreshny ~ nic's not interested in crawling - hates his tummy and flips instantly on his back if laid on it ... but if you put nic on the floor on his back, he tries desperately to sit up. he lifts his head as far as he can (baby crunches ... if i could do that, i would have ab of steel) and then gets frustrated and cries til you sit him up.

i cant believe its already friday! i go back to work on tuesday and am totally sick over it! for those been there/done that, any tips? and, nic is still going thru a clingy phase ... i am NOT looking forward to tues ...

last sun we went apple/pumpkin picking ...so much fun!

happy1: Great pictures! They're both adorable.

So Asher was napping on our bed on his back...and now he's on his tummy and his feet are near the edge. First time he's done that. Must...start...taking...safety...precautions...

Cute pics happy1
Addie's not interested in crawling yet, but she does love to try to sit up!

We had a rough night last night. I gave Addie a bath at 7:20 and proceeded with our nighttime routine: massage, jammies, nursing. She did not go to sleep until about midnight! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! Then she got up at 12:45. I have no idea what was wrong, but man it was a tough night. She did sleep until 9 this morning so I got some sleep...poor DH had to get up early so I know he's exhausted today!

We were supposed to go to a pumpkin patch today with some friends but I cancelled because of our sleepless night. I think I'll just bring the pumpkin we have inside and try to take some pics with it!

Thanks for the new thread!

YES! A new thread...maybe I can keep up with this one! ;)

I just got back from Belgium on Monday from visiting my parents and sisters (and extended family). Maia and I were there for 20 days, and it was awesome!! I got to spend some great quality time with my mom, dad, sisters, etc. My twin sister who lives in Spain came as well with her daughter, so for the first time in a VERY long time, all of us were in the same place at the same time. Adam flew out there with us but only stayed for 8 days, which meant that Maia and I were on our own for the way back...yikes! Entertaining a 5 month old for 10 hours on a flight is quite challenging. I even gave her benadryl so she would sleep (after consulting our ped, of course), and I think it wired her up. Anyway, we're finally de-jet-lagged, and back to a normal schedule.

So, I'm busy downloading pictures right now and sending them out. I promise to keep up with you all better now.

crawling: Collin doesn't like to stay on his belly too long. he has started putting his butt in the air, but he prefers to sit up and stand. When I pull him up from laying down he won't bend his knees b/c he wants to go straight to standing. I have a feeling we may skip crawling all together.

Crawling Grace has tried to get up on all fours butu I don't think she knows what she is doing.

happy1 Cute pics!

We had a rough night last Grace was up every 1-2 hours needless to say both Mom and Dad are rather tired. Dh complains about how tired he is all I can think is "hello I heard you snoring next to me while I was nursing!"

Thanks for starting the new thread. I would ahve done it but i ahve no clue how to do that. I only know how to update the thread. Sorry I could not have helped out more with that.

crawling oh yeah Nikki had been scooting back and forth trying to go. The drs think she may walk early I was like OH GREAT! Then i'll have two to chase after..LOL

Can't wait until everyone posts there little ones in their holloween costumes. I have to figure out how to do that. I would have posted pictures before but, don't know how to.

Another drive by post. Still no power at my house or ILs house :(. We got to take showers yesterday though at a friend's house who has power back - it was so nice! The generator has been a lifesaver, I don't know what we we do without it. Sarah is doing great thoughout this ordeal. Actually I think she rather likes having all of us around all the time! It's a bigger pain on us to take care of her under these conditions than it is actually for her. Our fingers are just crossed that we get power back sooner than later and that the boil water ordinance gets lifted soon!

Crawling - Yes, she is trying! But she gets very frustrated and gets upset, but she wants to be on her tummy now. She was able to turn herself about 3/4 of the way in a circle on her tummy.

carissa ~ funny how dh's claim to be so tired all the time. every time dh passes a tired comment, i just roll my eyes. he can go to bed any time he chooses and sleep thru ... he has no right to complain in my eyes... :)

Hey all! Can this June mommy join? I was too intimidated by the size of the last thread to join when I switched over here.

Here are my stats:
tgr68
Me: 24
DH: 25
Married: 6/1/02
DD: Shylah Ryann
Born: 6/18/05 (8lbs 0.8oz, 19 inches, 10:44am)

Background info:
DD was born via c/s due to a lack of progression during labor caused by the cord being around her neck. My recovery was very smooth, and motherhood has been great aside from a possible mild case of PPD. DD has been BFed exclusively up until this week when under dr's orders when had to start supplementing.

Current Stats:
4 months
10lbs 8oz
24" long

Crawling~DD pulls up on her knees during tummy time and fusses some, but I don't think she's trying to crawl. She does 360's on both back and tummy, and will scoot off her blanket while on her tummy. :)

Picture of DD and me!

6 month appointment Well DD had her six month appointment this week. She is 14 lbs, 1 oz - still a peanut in the 25th percentile. But she is still "growing well against herself" - since she was only 5lbs 4 ozs at birth. She had her shots, including a flu shot. I asked for the mercury free flu shot which they agreed to give her because of her age, but after they gave it I was thinking, "how do I know it really was mercury free". However the nurse informed me after administering the shot that she would have to have a second one in a month - I guess that's how it works for infants? Anyway she cried for a bit but fell asleep on the way home. She did so well during the day, not fussy or feverish at all. The next morning she had a fever (102) but still wasn't fussy. She slept most of the day. By last night her fever was mild and was gone by this morning.

So she went down to sleep at her usual 7PM and at 10 when we were going to bed DH informs me that she is awake - just lying in her crib holding her feet. Not making a peep. So I decided to nurse her and put her back to bed, she was still awake when I went to bed at 11:15, but just hanging out. At 12:42 she started screaming so I feed her again and she did go to sleep. She hasn't woken to be fed after 7PM in months. Anyway I hope it's just because of her shots and not a new thing. :D

I cannot believe she is 6 months old - a whole half of a year! We celebrated with a cake, of course she couldn't have any ;)

Only the 4th page and I already can't catch up! I do have to say, however, that I am just GIDDY over all these adorable babies! They're at such a great age right now aren't they? Well...besides all this teething nonsense.

Wilma Update: My house still has no power, even though all the neighborhoods surrounding mine do! Even the light in our lake fountain in the middle of our development has power, but not any of the houses! Our temporary house just got power an hour ago, so we are super excited. I hope it isn't too much longer until life settles down for us April/May Florida mamas. Thank you for the well-wishes, Everyone!

Developments in Mobility: Arik is a rolly-polly and inchworm(forwards and backwards). Sometimes, he'll do 4 or 5 rolls in a row. I swear he crawled a little the other day, but my dad said "the crawl" looked like a flop to him. These latest developments in mobility have all happened rather quickly in the past week. Maybe no power makes my baby active? I've been slacking off, but I think it's time to start swiffering every day again. These babies are going to be zooming around our houses so soon.

I love these pumpkin patch pictures. I'll have one to add as soon as I get it uploaded.

Welcome to our new mommies and welcome home, Aunt Liv!

Thanks ladies! The photos were done by Janice (the owner)
of ADC Photography http://www.adc-photography.com/ She's out of South Jersey but came to me in North Jersey. She was great with the baby - she came to the house, waited through one nap, 4 diaper changes and two feedings. She did some shots, the baby got hungry and she kept telling me to take as much time as I needed. Anyway - I highly recommend her - but we did end up spending a boatload of money - but I wanted to do the real professional photos first while she was still a little baby - but from here on out we'll go to the mall for pix.

She did some really funky stuff for us too like this one of DH holding DD

Welcome tgr68 and Jessiesmama!

tgr68 - My DD was a little bit smaller than yours at her 4 month well baby visit and we had to start supplementing as well. Things are going really well for Avery now (gained almost 2 lbs in the last month) and I actually think the bottle has improved our nursing relationship. Let me know if you want to compare notes on the supplementing thing!!

Hmmm...sounds like some more babies got "the memo". Sorry to hear about the sleep loss some of you are experiencing lately (says the woman who is posting at 6am on Saturday morning ;)).

Crawling - NO! :) Tiny bit of scootching, but that's about it. She still hasn't rolled back to belly, but that is going to be happening very soon. She has gotten herself over recently, but she couldn't free her bottom arm. Looked comfortable!

Oh, goodie a new thread! I couldn't keep up with the other one. Maybe I can do better with this one.

Thyroid Issues ~ I went to my regular doc (gave up on the internist....way too many problems with him and just said forget it). I have 2 meds that I feel comfortable taking. One is definitely safe to use during the next pregnancy but I'll have to stop the other one before getting pregnant. He said my thyroid was definitely quite enlarged and was easily felt (which I knew it was just by the feeling I have). So hopefully soon things will start getting back to normal.

4 months ~ DD just turned 4 months yesterday. It doesn't seem possible that she is 4 months already! It just seems like yesterday I was in labor. (I sort of remembered the whole process on Friday for some reason.) She has already mastered rolling over in both directions. I think she'll be sitting up by the time she is 6 months with no problems at all. We'll see what her doc says when we go in a couple of weeks. She loves to stand with assistance. And most definitely loves to lay on her tummy. And she is almost crawling.

Babies ~ What adorable little babies we all have! The pictures are wonderful.

Crib Transition ~ DD has been sleeping in her crib for over a week now. It was a VERY smooth transition to say the least. I started putting her in the crib during the day to get her used to it. She would take naps in there just fine and one night I decided to see if she would sleep in the crib. She did wonderful and didn't wake up until morning. I thought it might take a while longer to get her used to it but that doesn't seem to be the case. And I'm thrilled beyond words. Plus she is going to sleep earlier than she was (thank goodness....the late nights were really getting to me - adding to the thyroid symptoms).

Warning in advance....long post.....

Issues with the Grandparents....

Anyone else having problems? Since James has been born, I have been absolutely torn up over my own parents actions and attitude toward me.

X-Post from my Journal:
Background.... My mother has been telling me that she was ready to be a grandmother since I was 21 years old. Just out of college, no boyfriend, and she was telling me about what kind of Grandmother she'd be.

Since Jon and I've been married, she's spent lots of time "hinting" about how much she wanted Grandkids. She was over the moon when we told her we were having a baby. She kept saying, "We have to get ready for this baby!"

Now, he's here and she won't come to visit him. She and my dad were here when he was born. They did come when he was baptised a few weeks ago, but they wouldn't have come if it weren't for the baptism.

I had all summer off. Jon had a light class load. My mom is a teacher and she had all summer off. My dad works for himself and more or less took all summer off.

I literally begged them to come visit. I heard many excuses:
"We're too old"
"It's too far" (5 hours isn't too far when you want us to come to see you!)
"We haven't been invited" bulls*%t
"We have a log cabin to build" Yeah, my personal favorite.

They actually are coming this weekend. My mom's school has a mid-term break and they get a Friday off towards the end of October... They always come to visit on that weekend.

So a couple of weeks ago Jon called my mom at work and left her a message and said, "I was wondering if you could help me and babysit James on Friday when you come? I have 2 take home exams due the following Monday and could really use the help."

My mom calls back and says to me, "I'm not your person. I can't help. I'm not a baby person - you know this."

WTF??

Well, they ended up visiting, and we had a really nice time. Up until we talked about what we wanted to do for the Holidays.... In the past we always travelled to see them. I told her (and I told her before we ever even had kids that this was our intention) that we wanted to stay at home; we'd come and visit them the following weekend.

Another X-Post from my Journal:
Yeah, so I talked to my mom this afternoon. I asked again about Christmas. I don't even know how to make the story short. I had originally told her that Jon and I wanted to spend Christmas here....we'd visit them the following weekend, which happened to be New Years. She got all worked up and felt that I was punishing her for some reason...WTF? Just because I didn't specifically say "Why don't you come down here for Christmas?" She went so far as to say to me, "What am I supposed to tell my friends when they ask about Christmas? Am I supposed to say I wasn't invited to spend it with my daughter?"

So I made some other proposals that included being together on Christmas. She won't commit to anything, keeps commenting that she "used up all her energy" being upset about this situation earlier in the week.

I asked her what she wanted to do.... She said she didn't know. She doesn't "really know" about coming here....if that makes "sense". WTF? Don't you want to be around for your first Grandchild's Christmas??????? BUT, she's so sad I won't be there for Christmas because we'd spent the last 30 Christmases together.... So I asked, "What you really want is for us to go to you for Christmas, right?" To which she said, "NO". I give up. I don't understand.

I really tried to pin her down, and get her to answer some questions about her feelings, her desires.... To which she said, "So, you've hired a contractor to finish your basement. Well isn't that nice, you'll really get a lot of use out of the space and I'm sure it will help with the resale value of your house."

My own psychoanalysis...because what else can I do:

1. She doesn't want to recognize my new roll as MOM. To her, I'll always be her little girl...and that comes first for her. But not for me anymore.

2. She wants us to come to her. Looking back, she never calls me. Always waits for me to call her. She and my Dad rarely visit, but she gives me the guilt trip if we don't visit them. Jon's Mom bought James' crib...very sweet thing to do. My Mom insisted on buying a crib to put in her house, for when we visited. I guess it's going to get dusty.

3. She's afraid of failing. As she informed me recently, "She's not a baby person." I don't think it's that, so much as she's afraid of him crying...and not living her perception of my expectations.

For some reason, we always tend to expect to have trouble with the in-laws. Something about the Mother-Daughter relationship is so solid, that we seldom expect our own Mother would let us down. The reality is, my MIL has been worth her weight in gold since James has been born. She's been supportive, loving, helpful.... It's my own Mother that has let me down. I don't even know where to go from here......

Jodie~Adorable pics!!! I especially love the B&W one!

Deidra~We're getting better with the whole supplementing thing. In fact, today she refused the bottle and wanted to nurse!! :D Compare away!

Carrisa~Hi!

Wendstress~Sorry about the mom issues. I understand somewhat. My mom and I don't have a good relationship, so I have come to expect that kind of behavior out of her. I can't imagine someone that close to me acting that way. :( Cute pics!!

Not much here. We just got back from KC! We went up to the college football game. My alma mater and one of our toughest opponents play every year at Arrowhead stadium. I am kicking myself though because we walked out and forgot our camera, and it was DD's first D-II collegiate game!

Well, I'm tired, so it's off to bed! Don't forget to set your clocks back! We all need the extra hour of sleep from the sound of things! ;)

wow... slow thread today.

wendstess - that's terrible. so sorry you're dealing with that... {{hugs}}.

Jessiesmama - would you recommend her for family portraits? We want to do a family portrait for grandma (3 generations) ... and am looking for better than your typical picture people/mall photographers...

We're going to spend a lovely halloween day visiting my mom at work, then going across the street to the park for a picnic lunch and we're gonna see if nic likes/can handle those tot swings... then home by way of the market and few other lil errands... it'll be my last day as a sahm, so I'm hoping to make it a great one...

alright... i'm going to bed now... (how sad, its 8:15 ... but, nic woke me up last night at 3:30, when I discovered that I had a shooting pain in my shoulder/neck ... so bad that I couldn't lift him. needless to say, the whole house got to get up with me for that one... so it was a really early morning...not that i really need the excuse with you guys)

wendy: Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your mom. It must be so frustrated. DH has been having the same kind of problems with his parents and they are only 30 minutes away. They've been over to visit 3 times since DS was born!! My parents have seen him more and they're 3 hours away. I know DH feels pretty hurt by it. I'm sure you are feeling the same way. I hope Xmas gets worked out for you.

Sleep issues
They continue to persist! DD was up at 12:30am, 1:00am and then wok for hte day at 6:30am. this is out of character for her - I just don't understand what's going on - it's like 2 weeks now of this weird sleep behavior! grrr!

Wendstress-ug I am so sorry. Your mom sounds like MIL. She lives an hour away and has only seen Aiden twice-last time whe he was 8 weeks old. We kept telling her to come visit. She is afraid to drive to us and her "wonderful" husband won't drive her. She could take the LIRR but she is scared. She finally said she was coming and she would call and get train time-she never called. And didn't call for 2 weeks. When she did call she said she had been "sick'. It is allll about her. So sad. hang in there :)

Happy Halloween!

Wilma Update - Greetings from my office, where there is power! The good news - my ILs house got power late yesterday afternoon :D. The bad news - my house is still without power :(. So at my ILs house we stay, although my sanity is beginning to wear. I got a chance to glance over the rest of the old thread, and I want to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who offered stuff for Sarah if we needed it. You are all too sweet! Luckily, we don't. Sarah's room was actually the only place we sustained any real damage as something hit and broke a window in the room. We are so fortunate that our neighbors across the street noticed it (we were already at ILs for the storm) and ran across the street in the middle of the storm to tape it up for us! If they hadn't, there was the chance that her nursery would have been destroyed, so I am extremely grateful to them.

Time change -Is anyone else not happy about this time change and how it now changes when you DC goes to sleep and wakes up? I am going to try and extend when she goes to sleep by about 10 minutes every night in hopes of getting us back to normal bedtime/wake time schedule. Anyone else?

Welcome to our new mommies and babies :).

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! My town celebrated Halloween yesterday. We had a ton of kids.

My Dh and I took our 2 yrs old out to a few of the houses on the block.. He seemed to have had a good time running up to the doors and knocking. I think he was more amused though with the amount of kids roaming around and seeing all the costumes.

Welcome new mommies and babies! And welcome back Florida ladies!

I just ordered Abbey's baptism announcements. They are so CUTE! She is being baptized in Miami the weekend before Thanksgiving, at the same church where I was baptized. I also bought her gown this weekend, which is gorgeous. I just hope she still fits it in 3 weeks...and that the church has power! Here are the invites, which the store will personalize for us so that I don't have to do it. ;) I don't have a picture of the gown yet.

http://store1.yimg.com/I/customcreationsbyleslie_1867_60727972

We also dressed her up in her pea in a pod costume for a baby party yesterday...for about 10 minutes. She was not a happy camper in that one. Today she's wearing her minnie mouse outfit to daycare (the one my mom got her.) I just love being a mom and playing dress up with my little doll! :)

Wow, nice new thread! Must be pretty slow today, I had to fish us off of the 2nd page...rare!;)

Welcome to all new mommies and babies!!!

ahavnes:Abbey's invites are adorable! I'm sure she looks precious in he little minnie mouse costume for "school", too cute!;)

teeth:So, I *think* I may have figured out the whole sleeping issues we've been dealing with. Landon is pretty close to cutting his first tooth, from what I can tell...bumpy lower gums and I can see some white....So, I'm chalking it up to this???? Although, last night he only woke ONCE!! I was SHOCKED!

Sitting-up:So, this weekend, Landon started sitting all by himself, not even propped by his arms...just like a big boy, playing with his toys...I was exctied and sad, at the same time...my baby's getting to big, TOO fast!:(

So excited to put him in his billy goat costume tonight. We're just going to make the family rounds, my parents, aunts and uncles and the in-laws, but I can't wait to take pics.!:)

Hope everyone has fun today with their little Pumpkins!:p

ADORABLE picture, btw.

All I can say about your mom is WTF. So sorry! I have a bit of drama with my mom, too. They live 4 hour drive away and GOD FORBID she call me or they get their butts in a car and drive down here. Its just always expected of me, the *responsible one*, to get in the car and go everywhere.
So. Aggravating.

Sitting up
Still doing some baby crunches, but otherwise not too much interest.

Teething
Still a Drool Machine but no lumps.

Sleep
Was doing 9pm-4:30am, eating, then sleep til 7am.
I took the sleep positioner out of the cradle, started putting him in either his cotton jammies and sleepsack OR if super-cranky, his cotton jammies and swaddled in a thin flannel reciving blanket.
Now he's doing 9pm-5:30am, eating, then sleep til 8-9am. YAHOO!

Of course, this doesn't count Saturday night. AKA: Fart Night. He wasn't upset, cranky, crying. He just KEPT FARTING FOR HOURS and stayed up til midnight. He literally had a 20-second long fart that DH & could not believe. So wierd.

FLA Ladies
Keep checking in - hope you're all well!

usawife
I am pretty close to having to do the crib transition, which is why I took out the positioner from the cradle. I so don't want to do it! I love having him right next to me!! :( My baby's growing too fast!!!

Howdy all, happy halloween, or what's left of it.

We spent the day at DH's grandmother's, it rained cats and dogs when a cold front got here that threw a kink in our evening plans. We eventually took Aidan to her godparents' for trick or treating. Her godfather/uncle took her with him to answer the door for trick or treaters. All the kids oohed and ahed over the cute little lamb. Then we headed to my mom's. She had knee surgery today and really wanted to see her grandbaby to make her feel better. So, we drove to the other side of Houston, in the rain, with a crying baby, in her costume to see my mom. Mom had toys for her trick or treat bag. So. We're spending the night over here because it's too late to drive back home. Oy. This is just the beginning of our November-January "drive all over Houston" holiday experience. Having nearly all of our family in one town is great. Except. It sucks when that town is Houston and is spread out all over creation.

The suckiest thing is, my camera battery died so I got like 1 picture. One of those days.

These pictures are just too cute! We do have a bunch of adorable babies around here ;). My pictures of Sarah in her fish costume won't be up til tomorrow, when I can get back on my computer AT HOME....yes, that's right, WE HAVE POWER:D :D. It apparently came back on in the middle of the night last night and our neighbors called us this morning to let us know. I cannot wait to sleep in my own bed tonight and not be living out of a suitcase anymore! Ha, and not be living with my ILs anymore ;).

Anyway, we dressed Sarah up in her fish costume last night, which she was not very happy about at first. After she calmed down, we got some cute pictures and she helped give out some candy to a few trick or treaters. I can't wait til next Halloween when we get to take her trick or treating :).

Sasha~Yeah!! Glad you guys have power.

Time Change~Didn't appear to affect us as far as sleep patterns go. In fact, DD ended up going to sleep later than usually on Sunday. Yesterday, I think she started a major growth spurt because she ate probably twice as much as usual!

We celebrated Halloween at my ILs. DD helped hand out candy (when she wasn't snoozing) and visited the neighbors to show off her costume! We were supposed to do fall/halloween pics yesterday during the day, but it ended up raining all Sunday night and was really cold Monday! :(

ahavnes~Cute invite!

rancherswife~Sitting up already?!? Wow!

Deidra~Cute pic!!

Carissa~Hope Grace gets to feeling better.

Jenyfer~Cute costumes!!!

Kim~LOL at Fart Night! :p Cute pictures! I love the pumpkin binky! LOL.

jmvan~Superbaby!!!

Dreshny~I love his facial expression in that pic!

tgray~That sucks about your camera! I know what you mean about the holidays. Our town is small, but MIL wants to monopolize our entire holdiay time with that side of the family. It's going to be a doozy trying to figure out a schedule that everyone can live with!

ally~What a big smile Aiden has! Too cute! I love his black Halloween cat, too.

newyearsbride~Cute!

ladybug~LOL!! I love the Humpty Dumpty costume! Way too cute!

KGif~The lobster costume is adorable!!

Here's our Halloween costume! I had some older kids as if she was a telletubby, even though it says Shrek right across the front.

What cute babies we have!

I am posting pictures of Sarah's first Halloween party. I go to a mom's connect support group and we all dressed up the babies. Sarah is the one in the Colt's Cheerleader outfit, she is the youngest baby!

http://www.denizozgur.com/photo/p/Hallowen/index.html

We live in a neighborhood with primarly older folks, so only had the doorbell ring once (In actuality the group ran the doorbell three times in a row). Sarah had gone to sleep and I was not going to answer the door. My husband opened the door and told the group(teens) that we had a five month old sleeping in the house and to leave. The next thing I knew there were loud bangs on the door and the front window, we got egged! What is wrong with teens these days?

Just needed to vent!

Love the new thread!

I don't think we had much trick or treating in our neighborhood last night. DH and I purposely went out to dinner because I didn't want to spend money to buy candy.....oh, the joys of life on a budget!! :D

We just moved to DFW this summer, but in our old neighborhood last night one of our friends passed out candy to 900 kids!! It's a very nice neighborhood and lots of people trick or treat there! Now that's A LOT of candy!

Drive by post...

We are visting with family this week in WI and it's going great. DS is getting spoiled rotten. He was still getting the memo and I resorted to dumping him off w/ my parents in the middle of the night. Last night my mom put the PNP in their room and he slept the night. Punk!

We had a wedding and his baptism and both went great. He did not like his baptism dress (all lace) so not too many photos. Yesterday, we met with an old WC/CC friend, deliciousjones, to have his picture taken. Can't wait to see them - it was such a beautiful fall day here. The only downside to this trip is that I am near done nursing. DS will hardly nurse long enough and I'm barely making enough. Both my ped and DH are being supportive but it's just so sad that being here and busy is a good way to not think about it too much.

kimthebride great minds think alike - Sam was Superman and had the same "First Halloween" onesie and hat.

Hi Ladies! Checking in from my emergency response unit outside of the insurance company that I work for since the business does not have power. We still do not have power! Ugh, I seriously think we are not going to get it back up until right before Thanksgiving. We are staying with my in-laws as their power came up on Friday evening. Rebecca squealed when she was given a bath- poor thing! It is so much easier to clean her bottles without having to boil the water on the grill.

Anyhow, the Halloween pictures of the babies look wonderful! Rebecca was a sweet pea and could not wait to get out of her costume after our walk around the neighborhood, so I put her in a Baby's First Boo onsie. She was much happier afterwards.

I will check back in whenever I can....

Hey ladies, long time no see!

Me: 32
DH: 33
Married: April 26, 2002
DS: Brody Robert, May 25, 2005
Baby's Stats: 8lb 3oz, 21.5 inches long

I was IrishEyesNY at the WC.

Sorry it's been so long, but with a new job, time on the computer is tight.
I can't believe how much our babies have grown. Brody is now 19 lbs and 28 inches long (at his 4.5 month appointment--he's now 5 months). I've been pumping and nursing (supplemented with formula) for the past 3 months but my supply is starting to wane, so I'll probably start to wean.

I'll post some new pictures (including ones from Halloween) soon, I promise!

Bwah ha haaaaaahhhh I had you all fooled!

Yes, I am very much a blonde. :D I just had a dark wig on for my Lois Lane gig.
(Oh, and I did chop off about 8" of hair so it's now chin length. I need to take a picture...)

DH didn't see me with it on since he was at work, and I had him download the pictures from my day at the parade. Well, he's in the other room and suddenly says "HOLY SH!T" - so I go running in to see what was up.
He didn't recognize me in the pictures for the entire 10 minutes he was downloading them. He was about to ask me who that brunette girl was.
Men.

QOTD: What Do You Recommend?
Recommend something, anything - for mom, baby, household, beauty, whatever.
Me first!
I recommend: Baby OxyClean
I totally didn't buy into the ads, but my friend swears by it and forced me to buy some one day we were at BRU together.
Well, last week DS decided to poop while I had him laying naked on top of his all-white Carter's pjs. And I only had 1 wipe left! So he had 3 days worth of poop alllll over the white pj, since he was laying on it and I had no choice but to use it as a wipe to clean him up.
After soaking it per the directions, there isn't so much as a shadow of anything on it. UNBELIEVABLE.
It's $3.99 at Baby Depot, $4.99 at BRU.

Hey guys...

I'm back at work..its awful. Today was my second day and I feel like all I do is pump, clean bottles, and feed the baby. I no longer have any time to play with him at ALL... I'm either feeding him or doing something so someone else can feed him. I'm commited to lasting 2 months, but I don't see how... I really need to go to bed, but I thought I would check in with you guys first... I'll post pics of Nic in his skunk outfit (another home made skunk ... but I like the other one, sorry, forget who posted that, better... mental note: for babies costumes - the body should be fleece, not fur) That, and I've gone to the daycare 4 times now (b/f at lunch, pick up at end o day) ... and 3/4 he's been crying when I walk in... :(

Have a good week... I'm not even going to pretend to keep up with you guys...

Roseanne ~ Did you shoot your commercial yet? I think you asked about how much they're eating? Yesterday, Nic ate 9 oz plus me b/f at lunch...today he ate 17 oz plus b/f at lunch...but today he really only latched on to go to sleep...for an 8:30-5 day... not sure if that helps... (my friend, who's baby has been going to daycare for 2 mos now ..said its like that. One day he eats a ton, the next not so much...its all over the place...) Good luck! Asher will be fine!

ahavens Would you believe that I found the Colts cheerleader outfit at one of the local target stores.

Yes, I often think that DD is too thin. At her 4 month check-up she was 11lbs 14 oz. Dr. thinks she is healthy though!

Question for all those working moms. Do you get ready first and then get DC ready for the day or do you get DC dressed, fed, and then take care of you? I start work on a part time basis Monday. Since her birth I get her up first to eat, and I shower for the day when she naps. Thanks for any sugestions.

happy1: No it's tomorrow. It's a half-day (9-1), luckily. I'm leaving Asher with my neighbor, but I'm not feeling too confident about it. I mentioned that he likes to eat (ie. bf) when he wakes from a nap, and she said "well he should at least drink something, like water or juice." Um, hello? No, he only eats and drinks breastmilk! I'm pretty stressed about this.

I'm sorry to hear about your work/daycare situation. :( I was thinking about you and Nic, because I know Asher and Nic have similar temperaments. I'm sure Asher will cry all morning tomorrow.

i totally sympathize. this is what my life has been like since August 17th. i completely commiserate.

sometimes i seriously feel like i'm going to have a nervous breakdown, or........i can't even say it. ok, so i fantasize about taking Elle and running away. but, i don't want to be melodramatic. i know that would be a destructive thing to do.

anyway hugs to you and to Dreshy. i think i have adjusted to being away from Elle as well as i can, and she to my absence as well, but i'm still not happy about it and don't think i ever will be. the first two days away from her were absolutely awful, so i know what you're going through.

NatRat~Thanks!

Cynder~DS will hardly nurse long enough and I'm barely making enough. I am in the same boat. Ped told us to supplement because DD had lost weight, and now she won't hardly nurse which is causing my supply to go way down. After a month of supplementing (and if she has gained enough), ped said we could go back to BFing. I hope I can start working to get my supply back up. I really don't like having to give her formula. :( Love DS's costume!!

Sasha~Sarah looks so cute!

KGif~Did you get my PM?

Ferris~Cute!

rancherswife~Can't wait to see pics!

Alicia~Abbey looks adorable!

Chylynn~Poor Rebecca. :( Hopefully things will be back up and running for you shortly!

Irish~Hi!

Ally~I feel the same way, especially when I can feel DD's backbone. She's been eating around 30 oz a day, and the dr says she'll just be small looking at DH and I. But, I still wonder.

Carissa~So cute! I love Grace's smile!

Kim~He was about to ask me who that brunette girl was. LOL!!! I'll admit, I did a double take, but I figured out it was a wig.

MrsChappy~I love Ben's smile in the first pic!

QOTD~Jeep Pack-n-Play! It has been perfect for use as a bassinet, changing table, and a total life-saver when it comes to travel! Oh and Shout spot treat stick. It has gotten everything from formula to poop to blood out of clothes without leaving a trace!

happy1nuv~Sorry about the rough trasition back to work. :(

Morning Routine~I work only a couple of days a week, but I try to keep our morning routine the same every day. I get up, brush my teeth, and wash my face. Then I nurse DD, DH gives her a bath (while I take my shower), and I get her dressed. Then I get myself dressed.

Dreshny~Good luck tomorrow!

I have been fortunate enough to take DD to work with me. Next week that changes. :( She is just becoming more of a distraction than not, so she is going to great-grandmas on the two days I work. I think I'll be okay because GG has watched her before, but we'll see.

diedra1027
11-02-2005, 08:37 PM
tgr68 - We're supplementing right now and what I do is always nurse DD first then offer her a small (2 oz) bottle 30 minutes-1 hour after nursing. I figured that this was the best way to preserve my supply (my top priority) while getting the extra calories into DD (the doctors top priority). So far, it seems to be working well for us - BFing is going better than ever and she's gained 2.5 lbs in the last three weeks.

happy1 - So sorry that going back to work has been hard on you guys. Hang in there.

Diedra~The only time DD will even try to nurse is first thing in the morning. After that, she screams if I try to nurse her. :( When I manage to get her to nurse later in the day, she'll maybe eat for 5 minutes, then she refuses. I think the bottle has maybe made her lazy. I am still trying though because I really want to get her to where we don't need formula when we start solids. That way I can strictly nurse her while on solids.

QOTD: Dreft spray stain remover. It works wonders.
Pampers Cruisers and Huggies Baby Shaped Fit.
Huggies Liquid Powder. Great for keeping her little bum dry.
Wipe off bibs. Found a bunch at the dollar store and stocked up.

I am also completely in love with the Bumbo seat. Aidan went from hardly able to balance herself when sitting to sitting up pretty much on her own in about 2 weeks with this thing. I look at it as sort of training wheels for sitting up.

Too thin? Tee hee, I wish. Aidan is a chunk. Seriously, a chunk. At her last appointment she was nearly 18 pounds and about 24 inches long. My little pudgeball.

Too Thin Yes I think it all the time but then I look at DH and I and stop worrying. He's solidly eating 30 oz these days and is in 6 mo clothes. My parents laugh at my concerns - apparently I was so small that I wasn't even ON the growth curve. They had me xrayed to make sure my bones were okay.

happy You are not alone here. The first few weeks are hard and slowly you figure out what needs to adjust to make it all work. Hang in there and be patient. Once a routine settles in, you will be able to spend more quality time with him. You can always vent in here.

Recommend Anything Burts Bees....plus it's a local business and I am all for that. As for something different Soothie pacifiers, not that I like pacis but I get a kick from seeing DS's mouth through the hole while he's sucking.

Routine In the beginning I would get up and get read but now DS wakes up around 5:30. So we nurse and then the whole family convenes in our bathroom while mommy and daddy get ready for work. It's weird but we have lots of fun and then we all go down and eat if there is time.

Question for all those working moms. Do you get ready first and then get DC ready for the day or do you get DC dressed, fed, and then take care of you? I start work on a part time basis Monday. Since her birth I get her up first to eat, and I shower for the day when she naps. Thanks for any sugestions.

my husband feeds hazel while i shower and get dressed -- and then i dress her and prepare for our day while he gets ready..

QOTD -- i second baby oxiclean -- good stuff!

Ally -Sarah was also 14 lbs 4oz at her 4 month check up (and it was actually closer to 5 months) and that put her in the 75th percentile. I found that hard to believe, lol. The doctor said she was doing great and I'm not concerned about her size at all, in fact her legs look rather chunky to me ;). LOL, she even looked bigger to me today than an 8 month old at her daycare. I'm sure Aiden is fine :).

Happy- ((HUGS)). I know it sounds cliche, but it does get easier. I echo everything Cynder said to you.

Tgray - I have a bumbo seat question for you. Does Aiden ever look like she is arching herself out of it? Sarah does this all the time and sometimes I think she is going to launch right out!

Mourning Routine- Hahahaha. Can't get one to save my life and it is one of my biggest worries. Problem #1 - Sarah wakes up at different times every day. Yesterday it was 6am, this morning it was 6:30, other times it will be 7:00 or later. Problem #2 - Some days I work from home. On those days it is much easier on me since I don't have to really get myself ready. But it makes it harder to get a routine going. Problem #3 - DH schedule changes daily so I can't count on him to help me. On the mornings that he doesn't have to leave until 7:30, it's great cause he can tend to Sarah while I take a shower. I hate the mornings that I have to go into my office and don't have DH to help me out with her - I feel like I need to wake up at 5:00am just so I have some "me time" to get ready.

Recommendations - Antibacterial hand gel. I keep one in my diaper bag in case I'm changing her diaper somewhere and can't wash my hands afterwards. Keep one in her room for me too. Can't remember the exact name of it, but Resolve makes an instant stain remover that is wonderful. It has saved my couch from many a spit-up stain.

Too thin? Nope, we have a long, long, but well-proportioned kid. I expected a thin one (like I was), but he's taking after his tall daddy.

Routine: since we both leave for work early (6am to work 7-3:30), Brody can wait until his first bottle at 7am. He still eats 1-2x during the night (around 2-3am).

Supplement: from the first day I started work, I didn't worry about supplying all of Brody's milk. We started doing 50:50 breastmilk:formula from the get-go. Brody only nurses during the night. All of the sudden, my supply has been taking a nose-dive the last few days. I think it's because of some postpartum physical issues that have just come up, probably partially a result of the hormones from nursing. I think I've decided that since he's gotten through the period of the most benefit from breastmilk to wean at this point, because of a number of issues. I already miss the 'early days' when I was still home and Brody nursed 24/7. Those were great intimate moments.

Going to work: it's tough, and I hate losing time with Brody, but I really really look forward to the weekends with him. I enjoy my time with adults as well, though.

Well, today is the biggest day of the year for me work-wise (we have a huge fundraiser tonight) and I woke up at 3am with the stomach flu. I knew this would happen, it's been going around Abbey's school for about a week. Luckily, Abbey is still free of it (knock on wood). Oh well. I did the same fundraiser last year with extreme m/s, so this will be nothing new. ;)

happy1- I completely agree with what you're saying about never having time to play with your baby. I feel the same way. As for seeing him cry when you come to daycare, Abbey did that the first 2 weeks also, but now she is happy as a clam. Hope that helps!

Sasha- We really are twins. DH leaves for work at random times also. The days that he leaves early are impossible for me. They are talking about moving his office 20 miles away....I told him I'd quit if he had to leave any earlier for work. lol!

Welcome back Irish!

Here's a question... at what point can we use a non-infant-seat-utilizing stroller? Right now we're using our Graco snugride and the Baby Trend Universal carseat stroller, but I have a Combi Savvy I'd love to use. I know the Savvy doesn't recline all the way back, but he's good at holding his head up (we've taken the head roll out of the carseat).

Sorry to hear about your health-issues, Carissa. I've had a couple of postpartum issues as well (though not as serious as yours). I didn't realize the weird things that could happen to our bodies!

Tgray - I have a bumbo seat question for you. Does Aiden ever look like she is arching herself out of it? Sarah does this all the time and sometimes I think she is going to launch right out!

She tends to bend forward actually, like she's reaching for something in front of her. She hasn't tried to arch out of it. I only use it when I'm there with her watching her so if she did, I'd catch her.

I know we covered this already but, dang Rancherswife, your hubs is a hottie! ;)

Thomas often will arch back or bend forward to eat his feet, so I sit right with him whenever he's in it.

Stroller
I've been using our Pliko P3 with Thomas since he was born, since it reclines all the way. As he got bigger and stronger, I'd take the seat up a notch at a time. He's not at the totally 90 degree angle yet, but at one click below that - and he's 5 months old today.
But I've used this Pottery Barn Kids Head Support by Boppy in his stroller almost every time I've sat him in it to help keep his head from wobbling around (even though he has no problem holding his head up), prevent flat head and make it more comfortable when he falls asleep in there:

He's not at the totally 90 degree angle yet, but at one click below that. Ditto for us too. Avery hates the bucket, so we've been using the regular stroller since the very beginning. I used a rolled up blanket for head support. I had to stop using the blanket recently - it would brush against her cheek triggering her rooting reflex which would make her angry . She kind of ends up leaned to the side, but she seems comfortable (she doesn't complain!).

Not freaky at all. I'm so preoccupied with DD's weight that I bought an infant/toddler scale. Now I don't have to run to the doctor every two weeks.

Weighing Baby
I just use the regular digital bathroom scale. I hold Thomas and get on, then put him down and get back on. It tells me how much I "lost" to .4 lbs, so I know how much he weighs. I did it today and he weighed 17.4 lbs! Up 2 lbs in the last month!!! I KNEW he had a growth spurt!

Carissa Sorry to hear about the medical condition. Please keep us updated.

Thanks to the mom's who posted about schedules. I may have to have DH help me get Sarah ready in the mornings!

Sarah went on a nap strike today, she only napped for 45 minutes this morning and 15minutes this afternoon. I should have just let her sleep, but I wanted to enjoy the wonderfully warm weather by taking a walk. She did sleep in the car on the way back from the park. I hope this is not a new trend.

Jenyfer~Happy 6-month bday to Will!

Weaning~I am so torn about this. DD is now becoming more fussy at our morning nursing session. I really want to make it a year, but now I don't see that happening. :( She has taken to a bottle so well that she has just about weaned herself. I don't know if this is me trying to drag this out or if she is just on a nursing strike.

Alicia~How did the fundraiser go? Hope you are feeling better! My Avent microwave bottle sterilizer. I have been debating on whether or not I should get one of these. I also curious about the bottle/food warmer as well.

rancherswife~Landen looks so cute!!

Carissa~Sorry about the pituitary issues. :(

Weight~DD has been a eating machine the last several days. (She just downed 8 oz and is still acting hungry. ) Just did the bathroom scale thing and she is about 12lbs!! Yeah! We'll have to see what the dr scale reads when we go in here in a couple of weeks!

ETA:

Too funny that DH actually looked that bday info up!

Bottle Sterilizers
I *love* the Medela Sterilizing bags you use in the microwave. SO EASY, fast and takes up no counter space.

Cotton Pajamas
I am on the hunt for 100% cotton footed pjs for Thomas, and they are SO HARD to find! I've been looking for a few weeks now, and only have about 5 pair from a combo of Carter's & Baby Gap. The Children's Place ones seem too thin (and don't have a snap crotch)...anyone know of any other store that sells them? I've scoured Targets, malls, everywhere I can think of. :( I need to stock up through the Spring, since I figure they'll get even more scarce as it gets colder.

Irish - Love the Yoda costume, Brody is adorable. My DH is a huge Star Wars fan and wanted to dress Sarah up as Princess Leia, lol.

Alicia -I hope your fundraiser was a success and you are feeling better.

Carissa -I am sorry to hear about your condition, I hope it is something that can be easily treated.

Bumbo -Oh, I never leave Sarah unattended in it. She does the leaning forward thing too - I think she is trying to use the wedge between her legs as a teething item ;).

So yesterday was DH and my 4 year anniversary. ILs came and babysat so we could go out for dinner but it just wasn't a good night. It took me an hour and 45 mins to get home from work (because most traffic lights are still out, thanks to Wilma), then I came home to Sarah with a fever and she had barely napped all day. I wasn't even sure we should even go out, but MIL used to be a nurse, so I knew she was in good hands plus we were only going to dinner 5 minutes away. Dinnner took forever and DH and I were both so tired. We just wanted to get out of there. Not the greatest 4 year anniversary celebration .

Hi ladies! I am loving all the cute photos!

I have a question about the microwave sterilizer. How does it work? Do you rinse the nipples with water before you stick them in or do you soap them up, rinse them then stick them in? I was rinsing then sticking them in but the nipples always dried with spots and I never felt like they were getting clean enough. Any suggestions?

Sasha: Sorry about your anniversary. I can sympathize--we took Asher to the restaurant with us on our 4-year anniversary, and he kept crying, so we just wanted to eat and leave.

So I left DS with a sitter yesterday (actually, my downstairs neighbor) while I shot a commercial. I wasn't comfortable leaving him at home, though, so I asked her to come with me and the baby to the shoot. He sat in the stroller  (she said he was okay as long as he was in constant motion), and she wheeled him in and out of various stores and took him back to me to nurse when I wasn't busy. It worked out for both of us. :D

I think he's teething, though. He cried inconsolably for 2 1/2 hours last night, his poop stinks, and my nipples are sore (I hear babies secrete different mouth enzymes when they teethe.) Then he woke up twice last night--and for the preceding 4 nights, he had STTN. I gave him Tylenol and Motrin (my ped says Tylenol in the day, Motrin at night), but I hate "solving" things with medicine. He won't chew a teether when he's like that, though.

Highchairs I have the Fisher Price Healthy Highchair. I love it! All my friend did the booster that others have mentioned. But I mainly went with a highchair because I didn't want to lose a chair at the dining room table, since you strap the booster to the chair. I have used the highchair from a young age to sit in...and after she eats, i leave her in there and give her toys to play with (then retreive toys off the floor, repeat.) she likes it.

Steralizer I have one...I don't really use it. Want to get rid of it, because it takes up space in my small kitchen. In theory it was a good idea to me....but I just don't have the time to mess with it.

Kim ~ I liked having DD in our bedroom in her PNP but I figured she was getting close to the weight limit. Are you pretty good at using Paint Shop Pro? We bought it and I just haven't had time to figure it all out. Care to share any tips?

I am full-time personal assistant to a short fat man who poops his pants.
ROTF. That's absolutely too funny!!!! :D

QOTD - What Do You Recommend? ~ I love the Dreft spray stain removal stuff. My mom bought that and it has gotten out every one of the stains on DD's clothes/burp cloths/blankets. And I also agree that the Huggies disposable changing pads are wonderful. I keep one in the diaper bag at all times and a second one in my SUV.

Carisa ~ Sorry to hear about your enlarged pituitary gland. Having PP issues is no fun. I know all too well about them (that's when my thyroid problem came up).

IrishEyes ~ Absolutely love the Yoda costume! DH is a StarWars nut. I figured that he would want to dress up as a StarWars character and do the same with DD. And when I asked him about it the other night he said that the thought never really crossed his mind until I brought it up.

Halloween Costumes ~ Everyone's babies look so adorable in their costumes!

Thyroid Update ~ I went to my family doctor and got a different med that can be taken during pregnancy. He didn't feel that taking the other med was a good idea for any woman that wanted to have future children. I plan to discuss it with my OB/GYN when I go for my next appt. I also want to ask if the thyroid problem means I'll be a high risk pregnancy for future pregnancies (I have a feeling it will but I want to make sure).

My Little Tigger ~ Here is DD in her costume. We thought it was cute since we have a cat named Tigger and DD absolutely loves anything Winnie the Pooh. And my mom gave her a present. It was a can of formula. I even have a picture of her holding the can.

High Chairs ~ We don't have one yet but I think we will getting one around Christmas.

High Chair
we have the Baby Trend Palm Tree one and love it. Though not eating yet, DS sits in it to play while watching me cook dinner, or he sits in it with DH & I while we eat dinner together. I highly recommend it, since it reclines, wheels, height adjusts, dishwashable tray, super padded seat, etc etc.

Medela Sterilizing Bags
I wash my bottles, then put the 2oz water in the bag, microwave for 90 seconds, leave the parts to dry on a towel on the counter. Rarely have I had spots afterwards.

Anniversary
We did nothing for our 2 year anv. Very exciting, huh!?

usawife: Paintshop
We have Photoshop Elements 2.0 - which I used to make Superbaby fly - and PhotoStudio. Honestly, I just play around and figure it own by trial & error! DH is terribly impatient when it comes to technology, so he usually hands me the user guides to things such as digital cameras, cell phones, the iMac, etc and has me read it, figure it out, and teach him. So I have become good at winging it!!

dreshny
So in the last couple weeks Asher took a bottle AND chilled in the stroller? Great!!

Arg!
DS is *not* himself today. Whiney, clingy. His naps have been off the last few days. He pooped yesterday and today (usually he poops every 3 days) and both times - sorry if TMI! - it was pretty stinky and there were little bits in it, even though he only drinks breastmilk. Confused! I don't feel any fever and no teething bumps, so I have no idea what's going on. Oh, and he's been eating more frequently. He usualy eats every 4 hours during the day, but now he wants it every 3 hours or so. And he keeps taking the binky, even tough he normally only takes it for naps.
The ONLY thing I have done different, is the last 2 days I used Level 2 nipples on the Dr. Brown's bottle rather then Level 1.
Must. Figure. Kid. Out.

Kim: My guess? Thomas is either teething (Asher has stinky poop, too), or he's in a developmental growth spurt--about to do something new.

Kim:sounds like teething. Ever since DS has started teething (3 months) his poop stinks really bad and he never wants to let go of his pacifier. Plus he's a drool machine. He doesn't have any bumps yet, either, but they can teeth for months before any teeth make their appearance.;)

High Chair We have a Graco high chair we will be pulling it out this month, I have never used it before.

Thanks for all the support in re: my pp issue. Hopefully I'll be meeting with the specialist soon to get treated.

A Cold *and* Teething
Soooo....I think Thomas' crankiness was because of teething and a cold. DH & I feel so bad, since there's so little we can do for him! :( He's less snotty today, but yesterday he kept snorting the snots then gagging/coughing because of them. My poor boy.

Big Boy Bed
So I freaked out yesterday thinking that DS is too big for his cradle, and what if he breaks it when thrashing around and hurts himself falling to the floor!!. Yeah, I know. A bit dramatic. But anyway...
I put him in his crib for the 1st time last night. Which was a GREAT idea considering the cold and teething issue making him so cranky.
 (sarcasm)
He went in at about 8:30 and got up pretty much every 45 minutes or so from 10:30pm-3am. FUN! But then he slept til almost 7am to eat.
It didn't help that i was freaked about him rolling over (even though I know he's strong enough now to turn his face from the mattress) or hit his head on the bars (I took the bumper out per Ped's instruction). So even though he's only moved from beside my bed to the end of the room, I had the video moniter on him and checked it about 10x throughout the night.
Hello My Name is Kim and I Am A First Time Mom. :D Hiiiiii Kiiiim.
Here's to hoping tonight is a bit better! :o

Dryyyyyyy Skin
Maybe it's the BFing, but my skin is disgustingly, flaky, red, itchy, nasty, uncomfortably DRY. Like, desert dry. Ew. So I went to Bath & Body Works last night and got all this uber-moisturizing sugar scrub, body wash and lotion. Feels pretty good so far, let's hope it works so I don't have to resort to using A&D gold!

Happy Sunday ladies....

There's been so much going on with me lately!! (Most of this post is x-posted.)

DD has decided to wean herself. :( Yesterday was her first day w/o nursing. So far, I'm not too uncomfortable since she's been down to one nursing session a day for the last week or so.

Well, today was my dad's wedding!! I am really excited for him and my step-mom. My sis and her FH came down, and I was able to get a few pics of my niece! I can't believe how much she has grown! I also got several pics at the wedding/reception. Will get them uploaded hopefully tomorrow.

Well, I survived my first week at work... and my mom has off on Tuesday, so she's going to watch Nic - woohoo!! :) I'm already happier thinking he'll have someone who loves him watching him at least one day next week - I STILL hate leaving him at daycare every day. Just waiting for it to get easier...

Kim... I made the same note to self.. must con DH into family photos... (We're gonna do a huge family photo with my parents and siblings... but I really like the look of the 3's.. and, sears, huh? who'da thought... No clue where to find cotton pj's, but have you tried ebay?

Roseanne ~ Glad the commercial went ok ... can you tell us what it was for?

Dreshny

happy1: It was a web commercial for the American Zionist Movement, oddly enough. I will post a link to it when it goes live.

We decided to try the stroller again today for the first time in a couple of months. I was feeling so encouraged by my neighbor's success with Asher in the umbrella stroller. But now I'm wondering if he really was okay in it, since every time we put him in the Bugaboo today he screamed like we were trying to kill him. :( We ended up carrying him and using the stroller as an expensive, all-terrain shopping cart. ;)

We bought Asher a bathtub ring to sit in because he's outgrowing the infant tub. He sits up with support just fine, but I just can't accept how fast he's growing. We also had to buy baby-proofing equipment because he doesn't stay in one place anymore when we put him down. He can roll and creep pretty quickly halfway across the room now.

Hiya! I think I will check eBay, though I can always put cotton jammies on the IL's xmas list and make them deal with it. ;)
That 1st week back must have been tough. :( Thinking of you!

dreshny
Wow! He's one mobile little man! I was checking out the safety stuff at Baby Depot (not a gross one, lol!) and realized it's not too much longer before we need to stock up. Yikes.

Crib Take 2
So much better!
I swaddled Thomas and laid him in the crib at 9pm awake last night, and not only did he fall asleep on his own  he slept til 4am, ate, then slept til 6:30am no problems. YAY! And he woke up really happy, singing, talking to himself and playing with his FP Aquarium (on. off. on. off. on...) as well as eating his feet.
If he could keep this up, I'd be pleased as punch.
When I came upstairs, I told Tom that DS was awake and my goal was to put him to bed by 9pm awake each night to get him used to falling alseep on his own at night around the same time. He laughed in my face  . But with all the traveling we're doing soon, it would be a big help to get him into this routine, right??

Tgray -What adorable photos! Looks like Aiden is sitting up on her own, that's great. Did Sears get the photos back to you in an hour or so or did you have to wait a few weeks for them? There is no Picture People or anything like that around here and I'm looking for a photography studio that won't make me wait 3 weeks for the pictures, like JCPenney's did.

Kim -Congrats on the successful night!

Happy1 - Hope this week is easier for you.

Solids question - For those of you who have been doing solids for awhile now, would you mind posting your DC's eating schedule? I'm still trying to determine the best way to integrate solids and bottles and would be interested to see how others are doing it.

Sarah is now scootching herself backwards! Time to start babyproofing the house I guess .

Yay, we have power again!!! So glad to be able to keep up with this thread again, but I don't see how I will ever catch up! This thread moves fast!!

Sasha -Here is Rebecca's feeding schedule:

7:30AM 1 Jar Fruit (stage 2) and oatmeal
8:00AM 5 oz bottle

11:30AM 1 Jar vegetable (stage 2)
12 Noon 5 oz bottle

4:00PM 5 oz bottle

6:30PM 1 Jar fruit or vegetable (stage 2)
7:30PM 5 oz bottle

10:00PM 5 oz bottle

3:00AM 5 oz bottle

Total: 30 oz formula
3 jars baby food

She usually has a biter biscuit through out the day to help with her teething and sometimes she will have some of my fruit if it is soft. Oh, and she also eats the Gerber fruit and veggie puffs. They are great- they teach the babies hand/mouth coordination and they melt in there mouth. They are very similar to Cheerios.

Rebecca's opthomologist appointment and 6 month WBC were cancelled due to Hurricane Wilma, so they are now going to be later on this month. We are anxious to go to the opthomology appointment to see if we are going to go with surgery or stick with the glasses. If they suggest the surgery, then we are going to get a second opinion before proceeding.

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Yup, Aidan is sitting up on her own. She tends to tump over occasionally but she falls pretty slowly so we can catch her. In order to get the photos that day from Sears it was $3/sheet and we got 14 sheets. We figured it was too much money so we're going back in to pick them up on the 18th. I really don't mind waiting especially since I don't really need them until Christmas.

Food Schedule

Our times are pretty flexible because Aidan rarely gets up at the same time each day.

Breakfast
Cereal
8 oz. bottle

Lunch
Veggie (Stage 2)
8 oz. bottle

Snack
8 oz. bottle

Dinner
Veggie or Fruit (Stage 2)

Post Bath/Pre Bed Bottle
8 oz. bottle

I usually feed solids twice a day. After she wakes up for the day, she eats, then I let her play for a while, then I feed her oatmeal and fruit. Then I do the same thing after her afteroon nap...but I only give her a fruit. I guess eventually I will work on adding another solid feeding.

Tgray-what brand veggies are you feeding Aidan? I have tried giving DD veggies..she does eat sweet potatoes...but that is pretty much it. She gagged when I gave her squash...and I can't blame her...it tastes pretty yucky to me too. She is so-so about carrots. I need to try green beans...I am just afraid she will gag on those as well. Maybe some brands taste better than others?

Oh my gosh. I am just now surfacing after this horrible stomach flu. I got sicker and sicker as Thursday wore on and spent half the day on the floor under my desk (just like the first 4 months of my pregnancy, lol) and the last half of the day with a fever on the couch in our lobby. Real professional. The end result is that I missed our fundraiser...the one I spend all year organizing. Luckily, everyone at work was very understanding and it went smoothly. Scott got sick as well, so we were a mess Friday and this weekend. Abbey is still ok (knock on wood).

But, I have big news! Scott is getting transferred to Austin, TX. I'm pretty excited b/c I went to school in Texas (A&M-Whoop!) and have lots of friends in Houston. Plus, we'll be able to buy a 4-bedroom house with a pool for about half of what a 2-bedroom house costs here in SF. Even better, I'll be able to stay home with Abbey! :) I'll admit that I am kind of scared of being a SAHM, the days got a little long when I was on maternity leave. I'd love some input on what adtivities you SAHM ladies enjoy. I won't have a network of friends or family, so that's out. Eventually, I'd like to go to work part-time, but we'll need to get settled first.

Sterilizer question- I'm sorry, I forgot who asked this. I just rinse off the nipples and/or pumping parts and stick them in there with 7oz of water and pop it in the micro for 4 minutes. It beats spending 1/2 my life at the kitchen sink! :)

Carissa and USAwife- Hoping you ladies get your medical issues resolved soon and start feeling better.

I am loving all these baby pictures too! :)

Anyone's DC bite their nipple yet while breast feeding? Grace has done this a couple times and I don't know how to stop her.

I know this has been asked before but how do you start solids? We are going to start next week and all I know is you start with cereal and go from there. Oh yeah and never to try more than one veggie a week.

High Chair:Yes, we pulled ours out of the box last weekend and he LOVES sitting in it. I think he feels like a "big boy" in it, he eats his cereal in it and sits in it while dh and I have dinner. Very cute! Though, I'll admit, I went for "cute" instead of practical w/ the high chair choice, and well....lets just say, lesson learned! NO wheels, no adjustable height, cloth cushion, but hey, it looks GREAT sitting in our nook area!;) That IS all that matters, right?

Moving to the crib:Yeah, we discussed this, this weekend and as much as I'm not ready for the move, I think we'll try it NEXT month. He's probably too long for the co-sleeper, but his feet don't reach the end, nor does his head, so that's a plus, right? He seems to be perfectly comfy in it still, so, I guess that's why I haven't been in a hurry to transition him, yet. But, I do know, the longer I wait, the harder it'll probably be for us. When we built our house two years ago, I'm not sure what we were thinking and his room (along w/ the other rooms) are on the opposite side of the house that our room is on. Poor planning! So, that's another reason I'm not ready yet.

Cold:He's had a cold since about Thursday, I think he caught it from my dad, mainly in his nose, poor baby, Friday night was NOT a good one for us. I had to sleep sitting up w/ him on the couch on my lap in order for him to breathe well through his nose. He seems a lot better today though. Thank goodness!

razzing:Landon has started "razzing" w/ his mouth the past couple of days. He thinks its so funny to do it when we feed him his cereal, too!:p

ahavnes:Sorry to hear your flu stayed around the whole weekend. Glad you're feeling better now! WOW, and congrats on the big move. That's very exciting. Doesn't sound like you'll be missing SF at all! I don't blame you. It's a nice city to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there, either! And even better, you'll get to stay home w/ Abbey! That's the greatest perk! Believe it or not, you'll stay PLEANTY busy while being a SAHM. It's amazing how fast the days go.

Back from my vacation from WI...and back to reality. It was so much fun to have our families and friends play and meet DS. It was even better for DH and I to spend some quality time with him and with each other. DS is a great airplane traveler (slept for all flights) that I am going to attempt to fly alone with him for Xmas (knock on wood). Last night though we got in and midnight and he was ready to play. When we put him to bed, he screamed like he never screamed before. It was fun to let the grandmas spoil him but I am going to have to be more strict about his sleep when we visit because last night was bad.

We had fellow CCer deliciousjones take DS's photo while we were there that came out AWESOME and has such a great eye. I am biased and think my child is pretty cute but she made him look ten times cuter. I wanted to take my own Xmas card but now I am just thinking of having her do it. We did do the obligatory big family photo shoot on both sides. I really need to lose more weight.

tgray Great pictures and such a great smile!

Alicia Congrats on the move. You are going to be a great SAHM! I know you were struggling with the promotion so I hope things get better. I am so jealous - this trip home put thoughts of moving back and being a SAHM but we are going to have to wait 2 more years until DH is done here.

So we are going to start solids tonight. DS is STILL getting up in the middle of the night. Part of it is time change/different time zone/traveling but I really think he is physiologically and mentally ready. Thanks for all those who posted their schedule. I weaned last week which I am still mourning. I am really not getting engorged so I am going to try and nurse one last time tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Ahavnes what wonderful news!

Tgray hmmmm that is mainly the kind I am giving her. I will pick some of the HEB brand next time I am there. I guess because I have heard all about, if your baby won't eat veggies talk...but I won't stress over it too much. The real thing tastes much better than the jar stuff.

Carissa I just gave her very soupy cereal(started with rice, she likes oatmeal much better)...and gradually increase how much and how thick it was. Once she got the hang of eating solids, and kinda lost the tounge thrust I started giving her fruit/veggies. waiting a few days to introduce a new one.

tgray~Aiden is so cute!

Happy1~Glad your first week went well. Yeah for your mom being able to watch Nic once a week!

Dreshny~He can roll and creep pretty quickly halfway across the room now. Wow! That is awesome!

kim~That is great that Thomas is doing so well in his crib!!

Sasha~DD just started solids, too. Today was her first day with cereal!

Chylynn~What is wrong with Rebecca's eyes (if you don't mind me asking)?

ahavnes~Glad you are feeling better! That stinks about missing the fundraiser, though. :( That is great that Scott is getting transferred. As far as SAHM activities go, I try to incorporate DD into my pilates workout (whether it's just giving her tummy time or using her as my weights) and sometimes we will go for a 20-30min walk around our neighborhood. I work PT, so I do get some time out and around adults while DD stays with her Great-Gma. I will also give her time to entertain herself throughout the day, which also happens to be my computer time! ;) Then during naps or while she's in her walker I clean house, make dinner, etc.

Carissa~One of my friends would yell "ow!" and flick her kids on the cheek when they did that. She never got bit more than a couple of times.

Crib Transition~We did this over the weekend while sis was down since we couldn't sleep in the guest room (our room was the only one over summer with AC, so DD got it). We kept the same bedtime routine, and she did very well! The second night she woke up around 3am, but soothed herself right back to sleep!

Cynder~That is great that weaning went well. I, too, was lucky enough not to deal with engorgement! I was really worried about whether or not I would be in pain like I was when my milk came in.

Today was DD's first day on solids, and she ate 1-1.5 Tbsp of cereal and then a 4oz bottle! It was funny because she kept grabbing the spoon and wanted me to keep it in her mouth (like a bottle) even though it was empty. She did really well though about keeping most of it in her mouth!

I'll post pics after I am able to get them uploaded!

Thanks for the congrats ladies! I just got off the phone with our realtor, I am stoked. We're going to look at houses in mid-December. The market there is sooo different from here, I cannot even believe it. I feel like a kid in a candy store. :)

tgray- We'll probably be moved in by early March. I'll be in H-town a lot to see friends, so we should definitely meet up. Another plus is that I can now virutally guarantee that Abbey will not want to be a t-sip since she'll be growing up in Austin, hehe. ;) (Nothing against any UT grads, I'm just being silly.)

Congratulations on all Momma's who are just starting the solid feedings. It is a lot of fun!!

Traciann -My DD eats Tender Harvest veggies and adores them! They are organic and I have tasted them and they taste pretty good. They are definately sweeter than the other jarred solids we have purchased.

Here is a list of the first foods that Tender Harvest makes:

http://www.gerber.com/content/usa/assets/prodcats/532/productSm.jpg

Organic Carrots
Organic Sweet Peas
Organic Sweet Potatoes

allyray231 -We have the Euro bath and love it! This is what is looks like:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000056OV0.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

It is great because your child can use it until they are two years old. DD loves her tub!

tgr68 -I don't mind sharing- Rebecca is farsighted. We noticed her eyes crossing about two months ago and we went to an opthomologist. He said her eyes are crossing because she can not see up close and she is straining to see objects close to her. She has been wearing glasses since she was 5 months old. It is a PITA to keep them on her, but I manage to keep them on about 80% of the day!! We keep hoping that the glasses will fix the problem, but we will find out more when we go on the 15th.

tgray- Aiden is soo cute!! I love the Christmas card picture!

Chylynn~That's great that you are getting a head start on correcting the problem! I was diagnosed with a lazy eye when I was 3 or 4 and had to wear patches. The dr's tell me that had it not been caught then, I would mostr likely be blind in my right eye by now! I can't imagine trying to keep glasses on DD. Good for you!

chylynn-good to know! i will pick some of those up. I have bought a couple of the organic ones in stage 2. they had some pretty yummy sounding combintations. I kinda look at it, if I am not going to eat it...I won't make DD! How does your DD do on the biter biscuits? I have some...but I was waiting until she was crawling(this close!) because the package says to. DD's 1st tooth is finally poking through and she has been chewing non stop on her thumb.

Bathtub we have the eurotub and i heart it! i use it in the bath tub. DD is starting to sit up better by herself, but I will leave her on the laying down side until she won't lay down anymore.

Pictures I wish I knew how to post pictures. I just picked up Mary Kate's 6 month pics from Penney's and I was really happy with them. They only took 2 weeks to come in. I think with Sears, PP, Penneys, it really depends on the photographer, as well as the mood of your baby as to if you have a good session or not.

We have the Safety 1st Comfy Bath Center and he's very splashy happy in there!

We have the one tgray has, but DS likes to lounge, so he refuses to sit up and that little 'peak' that helps keep him up ends up inthe center of his back. We used it with the newborn hammock until he was too big, then we bought the Safety 1st one.
We looked at the Eurobath (njnewyearsbride highly recommended it), but the little jut-out thing in the center that helps keep them upright looks like it might not be so comfortable on a boy's little bits & pieces. :p

Ahavnes - congrats! Lots of excitement going on at your place. I have learned the key to enjoying staying at home is to leave the house. :D It helps to get involved with local parents' organizations, mom 'n me classes, etc. and to have some routines - i.e. playgroup on Wednesdays, Reel Moms on Tuesdays, etc.

FOOD, glorious food - DD started solids three weeks ago and had one week each of rice, oatmeal, and barley. I don't think she's a big fan of the barley. She had her very first vegetable today, carrots, and ate the whole jar. Yum, yum! We feed her Beech Nut brand. We used them for cereal because Gerber uses soy lecithin as a thickener, and stuck with them for veggies. Once the rest of life settles down I hope to puree food for her from fresh produce.

Feeding schedule:

~7 or 7:30 AM(whenever DD wakes up) nurse
~10 AM nurse
~noon: used to be 3-4T cereal, now probably 2-3 T cereal and all the veggies she wants
~2 PM nurse
~4:30 PM nurse
6 PM: same amount as lunch, different flavors
7 PM: bottle of breastmilk as part of bedtime routine (anywhere from 4-8 ounces)

Sometimes she wakes up around 4:30 or 5 AM to be nursed, sometimes not. Those are the easy nights, because then she goes back to sleep. Other nights, she wakes up at 6 and that's it, it's morning and she's up.

Day care: I'm hopeful we've found a new sitter for my interview days - some of you know, our old one (who was only here one day, thank goodness) was violent with our DD. We only knew about it because the nannycam caught it. That was the very first time we ever left DD with a stranger (a thoroughly background checked, reference checked stranger but a stranger nonetheless) and to have something like that happen... I'm having nightmares about leaving DD again. My next interview is this Friday, but it's Veteran's Day and DH has off. But right before Thanksgiving I'm supposed to go to St. Louis. :( I'd otherwise be excited for the trip. I wish I could just take her with me. It's so hard to find someone trustworthy.

Bath: we have the collapsible First Years tub from BRU. The collapsible feature is nice, but I'm looking forward to moving to a tub seat soon. DD can sit alone unassisted but tips over sooner or later.

High chair: we have the Fisher Price Healthy Care chair too. (aren't we all good little BB readers?) ;) We just set it up this past weekend, prior to that she ate in her bouncy seat. She was just getting too squirmy, it's much easier in the high chair.

hey girls!

I love seeing all the pics. I've been skimming through, but it's getting late.

Welcome to our two newcomers! It's always great to see new people around here.

Maia is doing great. Still no teeth, but I think we're getting close. She's chewing away like she has a stick of gum in her mouth all the time. Her new favorite thing is the Graco Jumspter thing that you hang on the door frame. She'll hang out in that thing and bounce around like it's the best new ride at Disney World! Loves that thing. We tried the exersaucer the other day, but she didn't love it as much...she got SO MAD at the little toys because she couldn't get them in her mouth. Yep, she had a hissy fit over them. So, we've put the exersaucer away for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, everything's going great here. Maia isn't sitting up yet, but she's getting close. Still a bit wobbly. I can't believe that she'll be 6 months next week!!! Where has the time gone?

Here is a picture of us in Belgium, and the Grand-Place in Brussels...

Hope everyone is doing great!!

BTB-I had NO idea that you had issues with a nanny!!! It amazes me that people would ever be violent with babies! I'm so glad that you caught her on the nanny cam! I hope that your next experience is a ka-zillion times better! What a nightmare!

I find it completely unfair that your DD has WAY more hair than....me! :p I'm jealous of her gorgeous locks!!

BTB
I have been thinking of you, and got all upset the other day just looking at DS while he was peacefully BFing...I was thinking "My God, how could anyone hurt a child?". I am just so enamored by my own, and just get giddy when I get to play with anyone else's little life light. I hope your family is doing ok.

Soooooo CUTE!
Thomas made good friends with one of our cats this morning. They both wanted to sit on the couch with me (I have *no* personal space anymore! ). Thomas decided he wanted to play, and the cat (Cleo) wanted to be pet, so she came upunder his hand and let him pet her for about 15 minutes. It was so cute! Where were the camcorder and camera when I needed them?!

tub -- we have the eurotub and LOVE it!! its huge though so when its not in use we keep it leaning on the wall in our actual bathtub!

btb -- sorry you're going through nanny issues -- i also cannot fathom how someone could hurt a child :(

aunt liv -- oh my god all that hair!!! love it!

food -- so far hazel's just been eating rice cereal -- some days shes interested and others not so much! i did try to give her rice cereal w/bananas already in it.. but the constipation that caused... yikes! yesterday she had sweet potatoes and loved them so much she ate the whole jar!

high chair -- we have the eddie bauer wooden one -- havent used it yet though :)

ahavnes -- congrats! i loved being home when i was on leave and hope to be home one day soon!

kim -- too cute!

pictures -- we did 1montha dn 3 month at kiddiekandids. i just had her halloween pictures done at target and need to pick them up. im debating going to picture people for her 6month/holiday pictures. it really all depends on the photographer you get!

crib transition -- none for us.. hazel has been in her own room in her crib since she was 1 week old :)

I'm reading here and feeling quite down on myself that my ds isn't STTN. Some days I think we're kinda close, then there are other days (like last night) where I don't think that this kid will EVER STTN.

I'm just so perplexed as to what to do because ds#2 is SOOOO different than ds#1 was. Heck, ds#1 STTN at 4 weeks and never looked back. DS#2 is over 6 months and it's happened MAYBE three times in the past 4 months. What gives?

Oh, and we're FINALLY starting solids. We tried it before but ds just spit everything out with his tongue. I decided to try again the other day and it seemed to work pretty well.

I'm just frustrated, that's all.

BTB: I was so sorry to read about your nanny experience. I was having issues myself about leaving DS last week.

High Chair: We have the Eddie Bauer wooden one, but it's still in its box.

Tub: We were using a BRU folding infant tub (0-6 mos) in the kitchen sink, but in the last week, DS was trying to stand up in it, sucking on the faucet, grabbing and flinging sponges, and nearly grabbing forks out of the dishdrainer (tiny kitchen, no counter space.) So we bought an Aquababy bath ring for the regular tub. It's for 8-16 mos, but he can sit up in it pretty well. But the infant tub still works inside the bathtub (though DH said DS looked disoriented last night.)

Crib transition: Yeah, we still have to order ours. Except for finding space for it, it shouldn't be too much of an issue because it'll be in our room, we never put DS down awake in his bassinet anyway, and he co-sleeps at his first wakeup (which in the past week has not been until 6 AM--yay!)

QOTD: What has surprised you about your baby so far? I would say that I never expected him to have such a vibrant personality and such strong opinions and likes and dislikes. I mean, he clearly hates the stroller, and clearly loves the subway. He just looks and looks and smiles at people to try to get a response from them. And he's a BIG flirt. I take him into stores or restaurants and all the salespeople/waitresses comment on what a little Mr. Personality I have. I'm pretty shy myself, so I didn't expect him to be the way he is.

Alicia - Congrats on your big news! I know you didn't like living in SF, so that is wonderful :).

Chylynn - Yay for getting power back! LOL, funny the things we take for granted. Thank you so much for posting your feeding schedule.

BTB - I have been thinking about you and your daughter. Thank god you had that nannycam and caught this woman.

Aunt Liv - I cannot get over all that hair! It's beautiful!

Kim - Sarah is also enamored by our cats. Yesterday I was playing with our younger cat and Sarah just found it fascinating and got a little upset when I stopped, lol. She likes petting them but now has started grabbing at their fur.

Bath - Another Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn-to-Toddler Tub user here (the one Tgray posted). I loved the hammock feature when she was smaller. She sits on the reclined side now but tends to slip a little...she does the same thing when we put her on the straight side though.

High Chair - We have the Fisher Price Deluxe Healthy Chair too. Sarah likes sitting in there and I like how it came with toys.

Food - Thanks to all how posted their feeding schedules. After 3 weeks of rice cereal and oatmeal (she definitely prefers oatmeal), we started sweet potatoes the other day. She loved them!

BTB: I've also been thinking about you and Evie a lot lately. I hope things went the way you wanted them to when you went to the authorities. I don't understand the mind of a person who would intentionally hurt a baby. Y'all are in my prayers.

Aunt Liv: That kid has got some HAIR!!! Mine's still just got fuzz. Hope y'all enjoyed your trip!

QOTD: Hmm...what surprises me about her. How people are drawn to her. Total strangers come up to her, talk to her and are completely enamored of her. It makes me think there's something truly special about her. Well, more special than how special DH and I think she is.

Bath: We moved our tub from the kitchen sink to the upstair bathroom into the big tub. DH usually bathes her and he likes it better because he can take her out and dry her off without having to go so far to do it (he used to have to walk into the living room with a dripping wet kiddo). It's also right next to her room so getting her to bed is quicker too.

BTB: (This is my "thinking" post, as opposed to my "acknowledgement" post above.) I had to leave DS with a sitter (aka my downstairs neighbor) last week for about 7 hours while I did an acting project, and though I trusted the caretaker because I knew her, I was still apprehensive and wanted her to come with me to the shoot.

My dad, however, who is a psychiatrist and also crazy about his grandson (:)) insisted I make her come with me to the shoot. He said he'd seen/heard about too many little babies damaged by caregivers who did not have the experience to know how to make a baby stop crying, etc. And mine is one persistant little bugger when he's upset. At least if they were nearby, I could nurse him if he cried, etc.

So they came with me to the shoot, and all was well. At the time, I thought my dad was being a little dramatic. But it scares me to hear that violence to babies is not all that uncommon, and it makes me very reluctant to leave Asher again until he is older and can verbalize, tell a caregiver his needs, and tell me what happens when I leave him.

BTB As I said in the other thread, I am so sorry you all had to go through that. I know that you can't talk much about it but I hope things are moving on.

Liv Damn, that's some hair. Do people think she is older? People say that about DS b/c of the hair.

Tub Wow, I am still using the hammock in mine and he lays in it like lazy boy. Note to self to see about him sitting in it. My baby's head is like a pumpkin so we still have some wobbe to it.

Kim For the first time yesterday, DS laughed at the dog while he was in the exersaucer. We could not believe it. Having our "children" interact was so cool to watch.

Highchair Sigh, I am going to have to get one of these eventually...

QOTD People remark all the time on how alert he is. I haven't been around that many babies before so this came as a surprise especially now that I notice other babies and can see what they mean. His eyes are always searching and looking and you can totally see the gears in his head whirring. I will never forget his gaze when he came out. He's a happy baby but I am always surprised on how pensive and serious he can get.

The other thing that surprised me was how calm he is. I was really expecting a fussy, colicky, sick baby. So far he is so calm and no health issues, thank God.

Yeah, I know that I am making my baby sound like a "little angel" - this same angel got me up last night at 4:30.

highchairI've starting putting DD in it when I eat and giving her a teething toy. (no solid food yet) She tolerates it pretty well. We have the Fisher-Price Healthy Care booster seat. I like it because it doesn't take up space and I can leave it attached to a chair and you can't see it!

flu shotGot one and I'm still nursing.
foodIt's interesting to see everyone's food schedules. I think we're going to start Addie when she's 6 months, so I'll have to remember these great schedules!
night wakingLast night I put Addie down around 7 and she went to sleep. About 40 minutes later she was crying hard. I went it and got her back to sleep, she slept 5 minutes then woke up again. This happened about 5 times. SO frustrating! I think she's teething. I gave her tylenol and she finally got back to sleep around 9:30.
HELPOkay, about 2 weeks ago I decided that the paci had to go. It was such a problem keeping one with us, she would always spit it out in the car and I would go digging for it while driving  etc . It was just bad! So we have been paci free for about 2 weeks. Problem is DD doesn't go to sleep on her own any more. She either has to be bounced to sleep or has to suck on my finger! AAH! My back hurts so bad from leaning over the crib! She does suck her fingers sometimes, but not when she's tired. Anyone have advice for me??? Naptime and bedtime have been bad around here lately!
QOTDWhat surprises me about DD is that she is PERFECT in public. She doesn't cry, fuss, or whine even if she's tired. I think she's overloaded by all the new things around her and she forgets she's tired! LOL

BTB- I'm so sorry you and Evie had to go through that, I know it was hard enough for you to leave her in the first place.

Kim- Abbey is just now getting interested in our 2 cats, which may not be a good thing given how rough she is. ;)

BTB I am sorry about the nanny issues.

qotd I am shocked by all the people who come up to her and tell us how beautiful she is and that she could make us rich. :D I am also surprised of how good of baby she is. She is constantly amazing me of all the new things she learns. Like sitting up for the first time yesterday for 1-2 minutes then this morning she sat up by herself for about 10 minutes without topping over. She really is a great kid.

Traciann -Rebecca goes crazy with her Zwieback Toast! They are not as messy as the biter biscuits which eventually melt. She is not sitting up, but her nutritionist said we could give it to her if we wanted to as long as we were with her when she ate it. She also eats fruit puffs and vege puffs (shaped like cheerios, but dissolve in their mouth).

Aunt Liv -georgous locks your daughter has!!

kimthebride -awww, how cute is he with the cats.:D Rebecca made friends with our friends dogs. She would sit on the floor next to the sliding glass doors watching them eat their food on the porch. So cute when they notice the animals.

Jenyfer9 -don't feel bad- my dd does not STTN and she is 7 months old! I don't think she ever will!!

Sasha -Glad to hear she took to the sweet potatoes. She will probably like Carrots too...since they are sweet. have fun!! If you head over to the S Florida board, we are going to try to plan a GTG real soon- Wilma messed everything up, but we will get back to planning soon.:)

crib transition -Rebecca was 4 months old when we transitioned her. It was harder on me than her, but now we both sleep better (except this morning does not count- she was up at 5:30 am!!).

QOTD

I hear all the time how alert my DD is and how she should be a Gerber baby. People are instantly drawn to her because she wear glasses and then they cannot get over how much she studies their every move, watching their mouths, ect. She imitates DH and I all the time, and goes crazy with her books. She flips through the pages of her books and really studies the pictures. Soo cute!!

BTB~That is scary about the nanny situation!

Aunt Liv~I know you must hear it all the time, she has got an amazing head of hair!!

QOTD~I have been surprised about several things, but the mian two are:
1. How surprisingly easy she is. I mean, we've had our days, but DD is a pretty laid back baby!
2. How she already seems so extreme. Either she is quiet as a mouse or she is screaming bloody murder (when she actually does fuss). There is no in between wi this girl!!

Pet interaction~DD watches the dog and will occasionally smile. The dog, however shows off for DD! LOL. Our lab will just sit and stare at DD until she looks to do a trick!

NatRat~Not sure if you would feel comfortable reintroducing the paci, but what if you gave it to her just at bedtime?

Well, it's early here, but I have the most horrible headache. Off to get some rest!

Well, Nic came down with something from daycare so we both stayed home today(Mom has off again on Friday, so Nic will spend the day with her then...gotta love municipal holiday schedules...) I appreciated the day so much more now that I am back at work... Like, days when we didnt go out used to drive me crazy before ... today I just relished it, even though my lil peanut is all stuffed up. He was happy enough to be home with me though... wasn't cranky at all - although we worked really hard to make sure he got enough sleep (and he let me watch a movie while he slept in my arms -- Bewitched, what a disappointment).

For those that are working.. you have my total admiration! DH and I have been talking and I'm gonna ask my boss about going part time, and if that doesn't work, we're 85% sure that I'm gonna give my notice at the end of the year (need a bit more cushion before i can quit outright) ... That takes such a weight off, its unbelievable!

I'm so far behind, I'm not even going to pretend to catch up with this go round... You'd think that I'd have time to keep up at work, but I feel bad surfing the web when I spend so much time away to pump...

Take care all!

I must say that I am totally exhausted after working for two and a half days! I don't know how the mom's who are working full time do it? My DD who usually sleeps throught the night was awake at midnight the last two nights and we had to get up at 5am. I got out the door on time Monday, today was another story. Thank heavens I am only working two days a week during my orientation and am as needed after that.

btbSorry to hear about your nanny troubles. Although I got really good recomendations about the sitter I still am very leary.

High ChairWe have the Fisher Price Delux Healthy Chair. DD tried it for the first time on Saturday. She seemed to like the rice cereal. She even tried to put the spoon in her mouth.

qotdI am surprised at how happy and calm DD is. Her father and I are pretty calm, but DD is calmer than the two of us.
I am also suprised by how many people will come up to when we are out and about and want to look at DD find out how old she is and then tell me how cute she is.

Question about solids. I know you are supposed to try one food for 4-5 days to make sure there is no allegy. If you start out with rice cereal, do you keep giving the rice cereal when introducing the new food?

Flu ShotDD Ped encouraged anyone in the house to get the Flu shot. I am stil BF. OB is from Russia and does not beleive in flu shots because other countries do not give the shots

BTB
11-08-2005, 08:49 PM
Flu Shots: totally safe while breastfeeding.

Nanny situation: No one told me I'm not allowed to talk about it, but I'm still not sure if it's ok - I think I just watch too much tv, everyone always says they "can't comment on pending investigations." And I don't know squat about law, and don't want to mess anything up. So I'll stick with "there's a court date next month" and leave it at that.

I took the el today with DD, because I didn't want to miss her playgroup but the car had a flat. I'm so glad the car situation made me try it out because she LOVED the train and I don't think I'd have picked to take it with a baby if I'd had an alternative. It was fun. :D

cynder
11-09-2005, 06:59 AM
BTB I am glad she like the El. I think babies are fascinated with areas like that because of all the noise, people and excitement. DH had a blast in the airport when we were in transit.

BTW - Good luck interviewing. It's a tough circuit so I hope it goes easy for you. I remember when DH did it and he didn't have to juggle a baby so you have my utmost respect.

christy1010 Hang in there. You will get into the swing of things over time.

So we tried rice cereal last night and this morning and I really need to get a booster seat of some sort. He did sleep until 6:00 this morning but that could be due to cutting out his 6:00 pm nap. Sadly both times I fed it to him he was mega hungry so it was not all that great for him. He seemed to like it but did not like it when the finished with what was on the spoon. I have no idea if I am doing it right.

Sasha
11-09-2005, 07:36 AM
QOTD - A few things surprised me: 1) How alert she has been since day 1. If I had a quarter for everytime someone has said that to me, I wouldn't have to work anymore! 2) How laid back and good she is. She rarely cries and is just this extremely happy baby. 3) How I can't even imagine a time that she wasn't a part of our lives.

Christy1010 - Yes, continue with the rice cereal, or you could try some other cereals like oatmeal or barley cereal. For example, I give DD oatmeal as part of her breakfast and we just recently introduced sweet potatoes, so she gets that (or whatever veggie/fruit we try next) at night. LOL, I am such the solids dummy that I feel funny giving someone else information!

Chylynn - I will keep an eye out on the SoFla board for a GTG :).

Flu Shot - Thanks to Hurricane Wilma, I missed getting a flu shot at our Publix (grocery store) where they were giving them . I have to call my doctor and see if they have them there, but if I remember correctly, they had a big sign up that said "no flu shots available this year." Great....

Naps: Asher used to take 5 naps a day and was never awake for more than 2 hours between them. Each nap lasted 1/2 hour to an hour. Now suddenly he's only taking 3 naps a day, but the morning one lasts anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. Hmmm. I figured it was because he learned how to roll over onto his tummy, so he sleeps more deeply now, but then I read a thread about "dropping the 2nd nap," and most people said it happened at about a year. So by the time Asher's a year he'll only be taking 1 nap per day? And how long should he be awake between naps now? Asher's unscheduled and sleeps on demand, but I'm just wondering what other babies are doing.

Man, I don't feel like working today....

Naps: Our week vacation kind of threw us off but about a month ago when DS started rolling over to sleep on his stomach, he started having regular morning naps that lasted 2-3 hours. It was so bizarre but I did not question it. He would then also take a 45-60 min nap in the afternoon and STTN for about 8-9 hours. Then he got the memo and it all went out the window at least the STTN. I would say we consistently get a morning and afternoon nap w/the morning nap being long. He's awake 3-5 hours at at time these days. I expect him to be awake longer than 2 hrs because they are exploring so much these days.

Sasha
A few things surprised me: 1) How alert she has been since day 1. If I had a quarter for everytime someone has said that to me, I wouldn't have to work anymore!
DH and I say this all the time!

QOTD-People also tell us that Abbey is very alert. Sometimes too alert, haha! One other thing that has surprised me is how accurate my gut-feelings about her personality turned out to be. When I was preggo, I just assumed she would be a spit fire b/c I was so sick and b/c she was so active. I was totally right! ;)

Flu Shot- I am getting the nasal spray at a local drugstore. No shots for this girl.

Solids- Am I the only deadbeat mom who hasn't gotten around to doing this? I've been waiting until her cough got better, but I really need to just do it!

Happy1~So sorry Nic is not feeling well!

Christy~I would continue to give cereal while introducing new foods.

X-posted from June thread: Flu Shot~Actually DH's aunt (who is a dr) said that getting a flu shot in Oct/Nov is virtually pointless because they only last three months and the most popular month for the flu is Feb, so the shot would run out before the peak of flu season even hit. Of course that could just be for the Midwest, but something to think about! Sasha~I am such the solids dummy that I feel funny giving someone else information! I think we're all in the same boat here! ;)

Naps~We aren't really on a schedule either. DD usually takes a short nap in the morning with her longer nap in the afternoon. She is very much a morning person though, so she stays up longer then. When DH comes home for lunch, she wakes up most days.

ahavnes~I don't think you are bad for waiting until her cough gets better. It's probably a wise decision. Solids are a new thing to her, and I know that I don't like new stuff thrown my way when I'm not feeling well.

Ugh! I'm tired. I think I'm going to run take a nap before I have to make DH lunch.

ahavnes We are just starting solids this weekend.

naps Grace takes 3 naps a day 1 morning, 1 afternoon and one evening. Her longest is in the morning and shortest is in the evening around 5 which usually is about 30 minutes at the most. She has never been a good napper but since we have been putting her in her crib she has done better.

Naps (when they work) : we're at 2 a day. The morning nap starts around 9am (give or take 30 min) depending on what time he woke up. I'm trying to make this the shorter of the two naps, because if I have to go somewhere, morning is the only time I can do it. I'm in the process of coordinating ds#1 and ds#2's naps in the afternoon. I'm thinking it will work today (keeping my fingers crossed), and that nap is usually 2 hours or so. He was taking an evening nap, but then he wasn't going to bed until later, so we dropped that and are putting him to bed by 7 if possible (same time as his older brother).

Yeah, my older son dropped to one nap a day right around a year old... it's actually so much easier with just one nap.

I have to share this conversation I just had with DH. I love him, but sometimes I don't know what he is thinking

DH - So-and-so just offered us 2 tickets to the hockey game tonight, want to go?

Me - What about Sarah?

DH - She can come too.

Me - You know the game will start right around her bedtime?

DH - Ummm, yeah

Me - (laughing to myself at this point) So where do you propose she sleeps?

DH - We'll give her a bottle and then she can sleep on my shoulder.

Me - You really think she is going to go to sleep on your shoulder when there is a hockey game around her, people yelling, us talking to our friends?

DH - Umm, maybe not.

Calls me a few minutes later...

DH - What about Friday night's game?

Dreshny

Sasha: Sounds like my DH. :) But he'd substitute "let's go out to dinner tonight" and "it's okay, you can just whip out your breast and Asher will go right to sleep."

Carissa: Cute pictures!

Solids- Am I the only deadbeat mom who hasn't gotten around to doing this? NO! We haven't started either. I've tried to give her rice cereal twice now, but it's not going over so well. She's interested, but I don't think she likes the taste. She takes the first bite fine, moves the cereal through her mouth fine, then gives the 'yuck' face. After that she bats the spoon away. I'm mixing it with EBM, so I assume it's really the cereal taste or texture that she has a problem with. Has anybody skipped the cereals and just started with the veggies?

QOTD - Like many of you, DDs level of alertness is quite shocking sometimes. She's so alert and curious that she has a hard time falling asleep during the day.
I thought that she'd be more mellow than she is.
I didn't expect her to be *SO* attached to me. She still doesn't like other people touching/holder her - even DH. She getting better, but she doesn't want to be out of my sight for even a second.

Naps - We're so unscheduled. Sometimes two, sometimes three, sometimes a few extra cat naps thrown in for good measure. She gets up at the crack of dawn (~5:30am), most of the time she'll take a quick cat nap (5-15 minutes) around 8:30. Goes down for the morning nap sometime between 10-11 and usually sleeps for 1-2 hours. Afternoon nap is less predictable. Sometimes she'll do an "Oprah nap" as my friend calls it - a late afternoon quick snooze. She goes to between 6:30-7 at night.

Carissa and Deidra- Glad I am not the only Mommy who hasn't done solids yet. :) Deidra, I think some of the mommies in the BF thread said they skipped cereal and went straight to sweet potates mixed with EBM. Not sure though.

Sasha- LOL, men! DH wanted to go to a concert the other night...with Abbey!

I haven't started solids yet either. I was thinking about starting really soon though.

My DD is such a cry baby i swear. LOL :0)
If you look at her wrong or put her in her swing, bouncer or anyplace else that she doen't feel like being she cries so hard and screams at the top of her lungs I kid you not. Oh the joys of little girls..they start being bratty already..:p ;) My Dh says she going to be just like me. Just that i don't cry I whine if i don't feel like doing something..LOL

Holiday pictures: I was thinking about making an apt real soon since i would like the pictures by Thanksgiving so I can give them to family. I was also thinking about doing a family photo as well. Oh that should be fun!

Flu shot: Nah i'm going to pass on giving my kids the flu shot this yr. Last yr i gave it to DS but this yr I'm going to pass on it. He doesn't go to daycare and is not really by many kids during the winter months since we don't go out much.

I've heard a lot of babies dislike rice. I don't blame them...I tasted it and I think it tastes like wallpaper paste. bleah. Maybe try barley (tastes more like malt-o-meal) or oatmeal. You can also try sweetening the cereal with a little baby food pears or applesauce or bananas. My kid will eat anything. Seriously, she has never expressed displeasure with any food we've given her. I love this. I was so afraid I'd have a picky baby. I'm about the least picky person alive and consider trying new foods to be a hobby. Thank God my baby loves new foods too! :D

diedra my DD didn't like rice too much either. She loves oatmeal though...so try that. If you are breastfeeding, I would give cereal until a year....mainly because of the iron(i read this somewhere). At least that is what I am planning on doing. If you are FF then I wouldn't worry about it, because they get iron in their formula.

solids: we've been giving Elodie rice cereal for a couple of months now, actually - since her ped. said ok at her 4 1/2 month appt and since my emergency frozen milk supply threatened to run out. (we want to avoid supplementing with formula...) she is getting kinda tired of rice cereal lately actually, kind of makes a 'bleah' sound and pushes it out of her mouth. she has tried mashed potatoes, which she liked at first and now rejects for some reason, bananas (same thing - liked then rejected), and now we are trying a few jarred foods like pureed peaches, peas, green beans etc. (we puree everything before we give it to her...)

i hear from MIL, her daytime caretaker, that she doesn't like jarred peaches so far. she absolutely would not eat sweet potatoes, which surprised us. MIL and DH are kind of anti-jarred baby food, but i got them a few jars just to give them some ideas of what they can puree next with our food processor.

temperament - Elodie is pretty laid back. she can be consoled very quickly just about anywhere, anytime. she has never had what i'd consider a real meltdown in a public place, which is sooo nice. she's cried, but we consoled her so quickly that she was only crying for 1-2 min at the most wherever we were.

holiday pics - gonna do at-home stuff. we will do prof pics in Feb right before MIL goes home to Romania, as a last gift to MIL for helping take care of DD for 7 months while i worked.

naps - Elodie takes one morning nap, around 9-10am, and then one afternoon one, between 1-3pm. she goes to sleep at 8-9pm then, and sleeps til i get up for work. she's taking a nap right now, but MIL said she had an off day and didn't sleep all day today.

question to anyone co-sleeping - Elodie is getting very close to crawling. have you transitioned to a crib yet at all? i am very nervous that she is going to roll/crawl off the bed one of these days. she often wakes up if i pick her up to put her in her crib, but we've been trying to transition her to the crib lately anyway. its very hard b/c of her waking. i have been scooting the crib right up to our bed's edge and sometimes i can get her in there w/o problems, but other times she wakes. any ideas what i can do? (CIO) Cry It Out is not something i want to consider, unfortunately... :( thanks in advance for any advice...

nice pics everyone! :)

hahaha! I know, my little girl has a lot of hair! If I had a nickel for every time anyone made a comment, I'd be able to retire. :D ;p We think it's hilarious that she has so much of it. And yes, people do think she's older because of all her hair.

naps - she's taking one right now. She also had an off day today, because she dropped this late afternoon nap (the Oprah nap) a month or so ago, but the last couple of days, she's been taking it again. Other than this nap, she has a morning nap around 8:30 for an hour or two, and an early afternoon nap (during my soaps) for about an hour. Then, she's *usually* up for the rest of the day until she goes to bed around 7.

solids - we started her on solids right after her 4 month birthday, but took a couple of weeks off at the beginning b/c she wasn't ready. So far, she's had rice cerealy (bleck), sweet potatoes (yummmm), bananas (also yum, but quite binding), and squash (which she loves). Tomorrow, I'm starting her on green beans. I made the sweet potatoes and bananas at home, but I store bought the squash and green beans...

high chair - we have the eddie bauer wooden one, but it's still in the box in the basement...need to think about popping that thing out of her.

temperament - she's also a very laid-back baby. She really goes with the flow, and has only had one hissy fit (the exersaucer episode). She only screams when she's extremely tired or after her shots.

holiday pics - we're having her 6 month photos taken by my sil this weekend. We'll probably pick one to send out as the holiday picture.

OK, so DD will be 6 months on Monday, and she's not really close to sitting yet. Is something wrong with her? I'm getting concerned that she's still so wobbly. I know each child does things at their own pace, but I thought she'd be closer to sitting by now. How do you make them practice? Just prop them up?

naps:Landon takes 3 naps a day (typically), unless we're on the go, then he tends to nap more. One morning nap, around 8:30, he normally naps on our walks in the morning and stays asleep once we get back home, that's usually an hour or so nap, then his afternoon nap is usually an hour *maybe* two, then an evening one around 5-6 for anywhere from 30 mins. to an hour and a half.

solids:we just started solids last week, well, we started a couple of weeks ago, did it once, didn't think he was ready, then started again last Wednesday night before bath. We do one feeding of rice cereal mixed w/ bm right before bath and that's it, so far. He seems to be getting the hang of it now, it's pretty cute. Except when he razzes and spits it all out, which he thinks is hillarious!

temperament:he is SO easy going, he'll go w/ the flow for pretty much anything. nothing really seems to phase him too much. he's got a darling little personality, though! I love him:) .

holiday pics: He's got his 6 mo. pics. scheduled for Dec. 8th, but those aren't "Holiday" photos, those are just his 6 mos. pics., I'm going to take his pic. for the x-mas card, haven't decided what exactly I'll do, need to get on that, pretty much all the sites (snap fish, ofoto, etc. ) are all offering 15-20% off if cards are ordered on or before Nov. 30th, so I'd like to take advantage of that!

naps - all over the board. Sometimes 1 hour/day or less, sometimes 4 hours/day. Nothing consistent...he does better for me than for DH which stinks because DH is a SAHD.

solids - yup. and he LOVES them. Rice cereal.. We've tried sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, applesauce.... I've even given him a couple of "bites" of bread (barely bigger than a crumb).... The kid just loves to eat solid food! Still not making it a priority, though. Probably 4-5 times/week.

high chair - We have an Evenflo model. Been using it for a couple months. Even when he's not eating, I use it when I cook, clean the kitchen, etc.

temperament - he's challenging. yup, that sums it up. we call him "Little-O-Seven, with a Liscence to Fuss". When he's happy, life is wonderful, but he goes from good natured to CRANK in about 3 seconds, usually without any warning. Plus, he's TEETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

holiday pics - haven't thought too much about this yet. I guess I better get it together, huh?

Yup, we're in the throws of TEETHING here. It's miserable. Drool is amazing, everything in the mouth. I actually have a quarter sized bruise on my chin where he chomped down yesterday morning..... Please let the teeth come soon....and thank GOD for ibuprofen!!!!!!!!

Well, it looks like Abbey will be taking her first flight a little earlier than anticipated. Scott's grandmother has had a stroke and is not expected to live more than a day or so. We are flying to Orange County tonight so that Abbey can meet her only great-grand parent one time. I really really cannot afford to miss work, but family must come first. Luckily I have understanding employers (although I have not told them yet. Eeek!)

Sasha and trg68 Thanks for the advice on solids. I can't beleive I that DD actually liked the rice cereal. She smiled and really seems to get the hang of opening her mouth.

cynder Thanks for the support! I do hope it gets easier.

DD is a really good napper. She takes three on the days we are home. One in the morning usually 2 hours. One in the afternoon 1-1/2 hrs. and then a cat nap around dinner 30 minutes. Bed between 7pm and 8pm.

Sarah is putting everything in her mouth, could she be starting teething?

I'm sorry, I am WAY too deliriously exhausted to catch up and comment, but I need your....

HELP & OPINIONS PLEASE!!!

Okay, DS (5 months old) has been in the same pattern for a while now:
BFs about every 4 hours
2-3 small naps & 1 big nap per day
Sleep 9pm-4/5am to eat, fall right back asleep til about 7am

The last couple days have been insane. He's clingy, whiney, eating every 3-3 1/2 hours. But still happy, playful, taking naps, etc most of the time. Last night was ridiculous though: up every 20-30 minutes, crying, fussing. Ate at 8pm then 11pm he leapt at my boob when I offered it, ate a lot. The only way I got a 2 1/2 hour spread of sleep was by nursing him to sleep aroung 3am and sleeping in the chair with him.

Seperation anxiety?
Teething? (no bumps, no ear pulling, no low-grade fever...still just drooling and chewing)
Time to introduce solids?

Only changes recently:
- On Saturday night I moved him from his cradle to his crib: same room, but the cradle was next to me and the crib is at the far end of the room (he can't see me from it).
- Last week I went from the daily bottle of EBM with a size 1 nipple to size 2. I have a strong letdown, so thought it was time to go up.
- He weighs almost 18 lbs, up 2 pounds last month alone.

When he's freaking out at night and wants me, he is normally fed within the last 2-3 hours, dry, not gassy, no fever, comfy clothes, rash is cleared up, no signs in his mouth of teething. I just can't figure it out. During the day when he cries out, he's happy as a clam once I am holding him. At night he needs to be rocked to sleep. Very unlike him, he's normaly so independant.

I think it might be a lot of changes at once, plus the introduction of seperation anxiety.
My friend thinks maybe since he's so big for his age (5 months, almost 18 lbs exclusively BFd), he might need more nourishment from food other than BM. And she's a total BFer, so it's not a non-BF-supported thing.
DH thinks something is wrong with him and needs to see the doctor.

Thoughts? opinions? experience? advice??? HELP!!!

kimI bet it is a combination of things, but what sticks out to me is that he has moved from a cradle to his crib. That doesn't seem like a big change to us, but I bet it is for him. It's a new place, it's big and lonely. I bet he's teething too! We took away Addie's pacifier 2 weeks ago and it's caused a big sleeping problem. I didn't think it was a big deal until my dad suggested that losing the paci might be the problem.
gotta go crying babe!

Kim, he could be hungry. Aidan went from completely satisfied by her 32 oz. to nightly freak outs in one night. It was weird, she would just start crying and screaming and nothing I could do would comfort her. Someone suggested starting solids. When I did, she went right back to sleeping through the night. Maybe try introducing a little bit of cereal mixed with EBM right before going to bed and then a big bottle of EBM or breast feed him.

That's my only suggestion. HTH!

Kim: I'm telling ya, it's a developmental growth spurt. Thomas will be crawling or sitting by the time this resolves itself. Asher had a couple of days of the same thing, and the next thing I knew, he was moving all over the place and trying to sit up and crawl.

Heather: We haven't tried to transition to the crib yet, but have you read The No-Cry Sleep Solution? She makes a lot of wonderful, gentle suggestions.

Alicia: Sorry about DH's grandmother. Hope the flights go well.

Thanks moms!

It was a *little* better last night, meaning he was only up at:
11pm - fed him
1am - changed a wet diaper, he fell asleep in crib to shhhh sound on FP Aquarium
4am - fed him
7am

I put his Carter's Snuggle Buddy (head of a frog, body is a blanket) that I wear to put my scent on it in his crib, and he held onto that while falling asleep each time. I am HOPING he'll either start doing something new or get used to the crib and this will settle down. If not, then maybe next week I'll start solids (2 weeks earlier than planned).

Kim We were kind of having the same issue (ie The Memo). I was hoping to start solids right at six months but as we all know kids are not like clockwork always and they are constantly changing. Introducing solids is not all or nothing thing. It takes awhile for them to get used to it and the first few times they are not going to get much. So it can't hurt to beging the process now. We realized something was up because we needed to give more than 30+ to satisfy him and he is up to getting 8 oz at night to tide him over till 5:30 6:00.

Time off So I have been debating this alot and DH and I talked about it last night. I am going to ask for a 4 day week. Things are going well and DS loves daycare and is napping like a champ there. But I really feel like the quality of time that I spent with him is suffering. When I get home with him, I rush around to get the house in order to, to get dinner, to get him ready for bed, etc. DH is equally there but now that he is older, I want to be able to teach him things and be with him fully instead of half assed. I am really proud of being a full time WOHM and making it work but I think it needs some tweaking. I know that work is going to accomodate me but I am not sure at what price. Should be interesting.

Seems like there were quite a few of us up in the middle of the night last night ;). I was up with Sarah at 11pm, 3am, 4am and then I finally put her in bed with us at 4:30 so I could get some sleep! She wasn't hungry, or even fully awake though each time. She was grunting and kicking her legs around and moving around the crib, but was never really awake. Seemed like she may have been in some discomfort maybe? The only thing that popped out at me was that her daycare teacher said yesterday that they thought she may be constipated, so I wonder if she was having some tummy problems? Course she went right to sleep as soon as I put her next to me, so who knows. But I am tired this morning!

Kim - It could be so many things. I think it just might be one of these trial and error processes until you figure it out for sure. Glad to hear last night was a little better.

Alicia - I am sorry about Scott's grandmother. I hope Abbey does well on the flight.

Solids - Sarah tried peaches for the first time last night. Took an immediate liking to them :).

Naps - Ack, one of my biggest problems. She has always been a terrible napper, and it seems to be getting worse. She used to take four 1/2 hour naps a day, and on the weekends, she generally still does. It really sucks when I need to get errands done! At daycare now though, she is only taking 2 naps, anywhere from 20-40 minutes each! They say she shows no signs of being sleepy and just wants to play all day. When she gets home, maybe she takes another 1/2 hour nap before bedtime. So this kid sleeps about 10 hours a night and then naps for maybe 1.5 hours a day - does this not seem like enough sleep for a baby her age?

Holiday pics - Really need to get moving on this one and make an appt! I'm going to combine it to holiday pics/6 month old pics. I have a friend who is a graphic designer (she did my wonderful announcements) and either she'll do our holiday cards or I'll just use Snapfish/Shutterfly/Ofoto.

Sarah doesn't seem close to sitting up either and will be 6 months on Wednesday. How big is Maia? I'm wondering if it has to do with weight? Sarah is probably around 16lbs, so maybe she just isn't big enough to support herself yet? I put her between my legs in a sitting up position or in her boppy sitting up. Of course she would rather be on her tummy now, trying to crawl . I just keep practicing it with her, that's all the advice I have.

Cynder -We cross-posted, but I wanted to reply to your post about spending enough time with your DS and working. If you can find the most recent issue of "Working Mother" magazine, there is a wonderful article about this very issue. The gist of the article is that it isn't the amount of time you spend with DC, but the quality of what you do during the time you do spend with him. It would be a very long article to type up, but I think it would help you (it helped me!). If you can't find it, I'd be happy to send it to you.

Sasha If I PM you with my mailing address can you send me a photocopy? This is totally what I struggle with - quality not quantity. I am also toying with spending the day off doing my errands and other misc house stuff so that when DS gets home from daycare it's all about him.

Liv My DS is not near sitting by a long shot. Last night I tried sitting him in the grocery cart and his head was all over the place. He sits okay propped in the bathtub and in the bumbo but that's about it. He seems to be rolling all over the place though.

Aunt Liv My DD just started sitting up on monday. To be honest with you, I didn't help or encourage her to do so in any way. She has started gettting up alot on her knees in the last 2 weeks, and somehow she kinda sat back on her legs, and slowly sat up. It was crazy because I walked into the room and she was sitting up! So I wouldn't worry about it, I think she will sit up when she is ready.

alicia - I'm sorry about your DH's grandmother. {{{HUGS}}}

Traciann, Cynder, and Sasha - thanks for putting me at ease. Maia is still on the small side, so that may be why she's not close to sitting yet. I'll let her do her thing. I get so anxious, sometimes-ha!

EMsMom - WELCOME!!!!

Maia has her first birthday party to go to this afternoon. Should be fun! Other than that, not much going on.

Have a great day, everyone!

Alicia~Sorry to hear about DH's grandmother. Will be thinking about you!

Kim~Like Natalie said, I imagine it's a combination of everything. DD just underwent some major changes (transition to crib, started solids, going to caregiver while I'm at work, etc.), and I've noticed that she has been super fussy as well. Try to be patient (which I know is so much easier said than done) and give it a few days to see if things improve. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Cynder~Good luck working things out getting a new work schedule!

Solids~We tried bananas today, but DD was so tired from being up all morning that she just cried until I gave her the paci. (Now she is napping peacefully in her swing.) I am going to try again this afternoon to see if it was just being tired, doesn't like bananas, no longer interested in solids for the time being, doesn't like her new spoons, etc.

Ally~Happy 5 months to Aiden!!

Emsmom~Welcome to the group!

Threadmistress~Could you change my age to 25? My birthday is on Saturday! Thanks.

Hello ladies!
I've been out of town for the past week -- MAN is it hard to catch up in here :)

I PM'd the people who had inquired about the Similac coupon I had up for grabs. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you!

No way can I catch up with everything so I'll just add our eating schedule

Wake up at 7:00
7:00 a.m. - 6 oz bottle
11:00 a.m. - 6 oz bottle
3:00 p.m. - 6 oz bottle
6:00 - 2 oz rice cereal, 1 fruit, 1 veggie (Actually eats about 1/2 fruit and 1/2 veggie. We use those "starter" sizes for the jar food - love those!)
7:15 - 6 oz bottle
Sleep at 7:30

Question to bottle feeders - !do you think I should be switching to 8 oz? Jack does not wake up in the middle of the night to eat .. now looking at his eating schedule here it appears that I may not be giving him enough? He seems satisfied tho!

and

Sitting up -
Not yet! My little man will be 6 months next week but not sitting up on his own yet.

So sorry to all the mommies and babies having sleep issues. Landon is still getting up once, sometimes twice a night, eats and goes back to sleep *surely I just jinxed myself!* But we did have about 3 weeks of hell nights, so i can totally sympathize with all of you. No adivce, really...just hang in there, could they be going through a growth spurt?

alicia:I'm so sorry to hear about your dh's grandmother. Hope the flights go okay for you three.

tgray:yeah, ideally that would be great to do for the 6 mo. pics., HOWEVER the place I take Landon to, to get his pics. takes 4-5 weeks to get the photos back :( Otherwise, I would totally do that.:)
Comin' to Cali. huh? Monterey is one of mine and dh's favorite spots to visit:) We normally go over for our anniversary and spend the weekend, BUT our anniversary falls on Thanksgiving this year

ally:Happy 5 mos. to Mr. Aiden!!!

Emsmom:WELCOME!

Happy Half-Birthday To You!!!!!!!!! Can't believe my little man is 6 months old today!!!

How much do your babies eat at a time??? DH really thinks James should eat more.... (I think it's fine, though). The most he's eaten at one time is 6 ounces. Usually he's more like 3-4 at a time. He's still eating every 3 hours for sure, though. MOre if I'm around. He's easily getting 25 oz or so a day, but he just eats it in lots of feedings. DH gets nervous and keeps telling me, "James should be eating 8 ounces at a time by now." How does he know this? James is healthy and growing....right?

Approximate eatings....
(1 AM) Been getting out of this one finally......
4-ish AM
6:30 AM
9:30 AM
12 PM
2:30 or 3 PM
4:30 or 5 PM (whenever I get home from work, James wants MOM!)
7-ish PM

7-8 Feedings a day...even at 4 oz a piece that's 28-32 ounces. (Dang would I love to get rid of the 4 AM feeding). And we often add in a 2-3 ounce cereal + fruit or veggie meal, too.

ETA - Glad there are no worries, Carissa!
