Cynder- I hope your dad gets better soon and will be praying for your family until then.

FP Aquarium- Abbey likes it, but she's not overly crazy about it. She likes her mobile better I think.

cynderKeeping your dad and your family in my prayers....

Religion - I am Jewish and DH is Catholic, so we plan on celebrating both holidays. I happen to love the beauty of Christmas. Christmas is really big with my ILs and they go all out, so if we didn't celebrate it with them, it would be a huge slap in the face. They do not however go to church, but if DH ever wanted to take Sarah to mass or something, I would have no problem with that. My dad and stepmom are coming here to do Hanukah with us. We also always celebrate the High Jewish Holidays with my family, and generally do go to Temple for one of them. I have no problem with her being exposed to both religions. Ironically, DH's brother's wife is also Jewish and they too celebrate both holidays.

FP Aquarium - Sarah goes through phases with it. Now that we've had some problems getting her to bed lately, I try to use it more, but it doesn't seem to help.

Ally - That card is too cute!

Chylynn - Thanks for the holiday card idea. I love that picture of Rebecca, she is adorable.

Another solids question - For our "pros" out there (Tgray, Chylynn ;))...at what point did you move from solids twice a day to three times a day?

Chylynn

christy1010 -Sorry to hear that your DD is sick again. I hope she feels better soon.:(

allyray231 -I hope his eye clears up soon! Oh, my goodness, I love that Holiday Card...it is funny and adorable at the same time!!:D

EMsMom -Thanks for telling me the location of your FP Ocean Aquariam. We keep ours on the side of Rebecca's crib and I think it is too high for her to reach (kicking or with her hand), but we have a bumper in her crib, so it does not work on the rail that comes down.

Sasha -About two weeks of just doing lunch and dinner, we introduced breakfast to Rebecca and she took it like a duck in water. We noticed that she was watching us eat our breakfast and she even opened her mouth when we were eating, so we knew she was ready. I believe she was around 7 months when we started feeding her three meals a day.

She gets oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, veggi for lunch, biter biscuit and fruit or veggi puffs as snack and for dinner she eats oatmeal and a small jar of bannana's and a small jar of applesauce, along with about 24oz of formula a day.

One thing I have noticed is Rebecca prefers her fruit cold, so I now keep her fruit in the fridge to keep it chilled. We will be introducing meats to her next week and I will be making the chicken myself after hearing everyone tell me that it smells like catfood- eww!

Religion -DH and I are catholic, so Rebecca is also by default.;) :p

Does anyone own a Quinny stroller? I asked DH for one for Christmas, but I just wanted any opinions on it if anyone owns one:

http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/04/46/81/01/0004468101500_215X215.jpg

Wherever your day with baby takes you, from bumpy trails to just strolling the mall, the Quinny Freestyle 4 offers a comfortable, convenient ride. This rugged, four-wheeled stroller boasts a lightweight aluminum frame and is loaded with safety and convenience features for both baby and parents. Seat can be positioned to face front or back.

Who is Quinny?

Quinny is an established brand of high-end strollers that has been sold in European specialty shops for over 50 years. As the premier stroller choice of parents in over 20 countries around the world, Quinny combines innovation, safety and quality.

5-position adjustable handle eases comfort and accommodates individual preferences
Hand-brake mounted on handle offers superior control
12-inch, lightweight wheels with pneumatic tires
Lightweight aluminum frame is easy to maneuver
Revolutionary tilt steering system on the front wheels
Front wheels can be locked
Removable 2-part sun canopy with pockets and a mesh window
Adjustable 5-point harness system for superior safety
Adjustable and reversible multi-position seat with removable head cushion
Seat can be positioned forward or rear-facing; just turn it around and snap it back into place
Spring-damped suspension on rear wheels
Large under-seat basket for storage
Easily folds up to fit in car trunks

What sold me on it is the seat can be positioned forward facing so the baby can look out or towards you. That is my biggest complaint with my Peg Aria is the shade sucks and when it is sunny out, I have to put a sun canapy over her and it looks like poopy, in my opinion. So, I thought this would be a good stroller for when we are taking our daily walks and the price is cheap- $140.

Ally and Sasha - We're pretty much the same way. We go to the ILs for Christmas and to my parents to celebrate Hannukkah. We also went to my parents for the High Holidays. I took Emma to the end of the Yom Kippur service. I know that this made my parents very happy.

Ally - I LOVE your card idea! How clever!

Sasha - I can't recall when we began giving Emma solid's twice a day... Hmm... It was somewhere between 4 and 6 months.

Chylyn - We have a bumper on Emma's crib, too.... I have it on the sliding rail because anywhere else, she wouldn't really be able to see it. Since I'm stubborn and insist on using both, the bumper is really squished down on that side. I wonder if I have a photo of the way it's set up...

Related question for those who own the FP Aquariam -How do you have it hanging in your bed?
Depending on the width of the vertical 'bars' in the crib, you can maneuver the straps to go around them horizontally. Then you just let it sit on the mattress, instead of hang from the top. This is how I had it in my cradle, and it was perfectly safe as well as in reach of DS.

CYNDER
I am so sorry your dad and the family are going through this. You are all in our prayers for strength and a quick, full recovery.

FOOD
I stocked up for the next month of eating cereals, veggies, fruits and introducing formula. So wierd! I am just used to my boobs, which are FREE.

NAPPING
My lovely neighbor is getting her carpeting replaced with hardwood floors, which I knew was going to happen. Well, i had NO IDEA how freaking loud it was going to be and now Thomas is going crazy trying to nap through all the noise. Neighbor & I share an entryway (our doors are just a few feet apart) and the guys are sawing the wood right outside the door so loud I can'thear myself think. Then they cart it indoors and BANG it into the floor so loud it sounds like the ceiling is going to fall in downstairs. Needless to say, Thomas can't settle himself down as usual with all this noise, so it's been a tough couple days.
I feel bad, but I left her a message asking if they'll be here tomorrow, because if it storms and I need to cancel my get together I can't stay here so I need to ask my friend around the corner if I can bring him over there for the day just to be able to get his rest.

Hey Kim,
The only Little Me outlet I know of is in the Jackson outlets... If you wanna call them and get them to describe it to you over the phone, I can pick it up and send it to ya - they are literally around the corner from me(or, if you wanna take a trip out... I have Tuesdays off in December and could meet up with ya...) Just call and make sure they have the right size (or I can stop by on Saturday to doublecheck for ya) ... I remember the 18 months ones, but didnt look to see what other sizes they had (you're looking for 9-12, right?)...
Let me see what my next couple Tuesdays are like - thanks for the offers! :)

I thought you ladies would get a kick out of my stellar week. It's a good thing I have a great sense of humor. :rolleyes:

Last Thursday: My work computer blows up during a lightning storm. Literally. Following a large lightning strike, my monitor goes black and starts smoking. 2 days of frustration follow as tech support tries to get me up and running again.

Friday: The microwave outside my office stops working. Probably also b/c of the surge that broke my computer.

Monday: The little fridge outside my office stops working, and all of the food I just bought goes bad. Probably b/c I touched it. :rolleyes:

Tuesday morning: I blow a fuse while blow-drying my hair and running the space heater simultaneously. The whole back half of the house is now without power. Wait, it gets better. B/c our house is old, we have to special order the fuse. It will take a week. That's right, no power in the back bedrooms or bathrooms for a week. Sweet. And still no heater. It was 30 degrees here last night. :cool:

Tuesday night: I come down with the flu--chills, fever, sore throat. Awesome.

Wednesday night: Despite feeling like crap, I decide to stick to my plan of going Christmas shopping and getting my hair cut. I drag myself to the mall and get the shopping done, then start driving to the salon. It's night-time and pouring rain. Whoever said it doesn't rain in California is full of crap...or they've never been to SF in the winter. I'm about a mile from the salon when Scott's car dies. Just stops running completely. I coast over to the side of the busy road I'm on, call AAA and put on the hazards. Meanwhile, idiots are piling up behind me and honking, despite the fact that the hazards are clearly on. So, I roll down the window to wave them around. That's when the car completely conks out, and the window won't roll back up. And it's pouring rain and I have a fever...and still no hair cut.

I need to make some copies at work, but I'm scared I'll break something else! :eek:

Feeling SO BAD for you while LMAO!
PLEASE don't touch anything else. Just bok a hotel room, lay on the bed, stare at the ceiling and do nothing until that fuse gets here....

Ahavnes: I'm so sorry you're having such a rough few days. I agree with Kim's advice!

Cynder: You and your family are in my prayers. {{HUGS}}

Sasha: Hmm...we probably put Aidan on solids 3 times a day about a month ago. The cereal in the morning isn't always done though. Sometimes she just gets a bottle for breakfast. It all depends. But, she always gets a jar of food at lunch and one at dinner.

kim, DisneyGirl, tgray99, Chylynn, allyray, njnewyearsbride, EMsMom, ahavnes, Sasha ~ Thanks for sharing your comments on the FP Ocean Wonders Aquarium. I am pretty sure that we will be getting DD one. It sounds like it would be a very good thing for her. Thank you!!

Namaah ~ We haven't been out to take any pictures of DD and the snow yet. It was too cold yesterday that all we did outside was do a few errands (DH had a flat tire the day before on his way to a dentist appt so we had to go pick him up, go to the appt, come home, change the tire. Yesterday when he came home for lunch the spare was flat so I had to take him back to work so I could have the SUV in case my mom needed a ride home from work - her 4 wheel drive truck is getting fixed. So after work we went to find a used tire which no one had so we ended up having to get a brand new tire.) and come back home. Maybe we will get some taken today. If not I'll snap some pictures of the snow to put in her baby book/scrapbooks.

cynder ~ So sorry to hear about your dad! Prayers are being sent your way that he makes a full recovery. We know all too well about how your life can change in an instant. This will be the first Christmas without DH's dad.

Misty ~ Cute pictures.

Chylynn ~ Thanks. We aren't any closer to being done with being busy either. Tonight our new stud horse arrives. Tomorrow is DH's work Chrismtas party, we have a friend's surprise b-day party on Saturday night, and next weekend is Christmas with DH's family (his youngest brother will be here) and that Sunday is the day that DD is getting dedicated at church.

christy ~ Hope your little one is feeling better in time for the weekend.

allyray ~ That is one adorable picture!

ahavnes ~ What a week!!! Hope things get better soon. A few years ago my parents lost several items when lightening hit really close to their hourse. They lost a TV, a food processor, an answering machine, a telephone, and something else. I had parked the car in a parking lot and there was a lightning strike close by. We didn't realize at the time how much damage had been done to car but are finding out a few years later. It really messed up the AC (it needs a whole new system).

I too was wondering when I start brreakfast -- and I'm dreading it! I have so little time in the mornings as it is trying to get Jack up ... get myself ready for work...get jack dressed and ready to go, etc.

AHavnes: Oh i feel so bad for you...What a rough week you had.
Though when i read about the window not rolling up and it was pouring rain out made me laugh..LOL I'm trying to picture it in my head...Like you climbing over the seat to get to the passanger side so you don't get anymore wet than you already were..or you putting a coat over the window to stop the rain from coming in..Oh i feel so bad..
hope you have a better week next week.

hey everyone,

love the cute pics!

cynder i hope your Dad pulls through. thoughts and prayers go out to you.

can someone tell me how the Ocean Wonders Aquarium works? is it a mobile? can you remove the mobile part and still have a working, entertaining toy? because Elodie is sitting/pulling herself to standing now, and you're supposed to remove mobile parts - those that can be pulled down and could cause choking - after that. if the non-mobile part works by itself and is still entertaining, i might consider getting it for Elle.

SNOW DAY today!!! heehee. i love 3 day weekends!!!!! :D

since i have more time today w/no work, i might update stats if it hasn't already been done. honestly, i have no idea, i can only skim the thread sometimes, busy as i am........will be checking on that. maybe someone got to it? :) anyway, if anyone has stat changes let me know....i think we have a couple new members, anyway. welcome.

kimthebride -TThanks! I never thought about doing it that way...duh, Mommy moment, I guess!;)

ahavnes -So sorry! What a horrible week you have been having. I bet you feel like you are stuck in the twilight zone! do do do do....

njnewyearsbride -Yes, shockingly, we have! We started having some explosive poos which we have not had since she was an infant and she started leaking at night. She fits better in the size 4s.

In regards to the jumparoo...I have it set illegally! The front legs are on setting 4 and the rear legs are on setting 2. It was the only setting that DD started jumping like crazy, so we left it at it. I set it that way by accident and the phone rang and as I was talking she was jumping and having a grand ol' time! Soo cute...

BridalLace -The FP Aquariam is not a mobile. It attaches to the crib tightly, so if your DD pulls up on it, it should stay in place. I have known many parents who leave it in the crib even when they babies become toddlers. You should get it for her! She will love it!!

Today is my Christmas party at work (I work from home 20 hours a week) so Miss Rebecca is coming with me. I am excited and nervous at the same time as it is at 1pm and she naps at that time. I am planning on bringing the stroller and hopefully she will fall asleep in the stroller outside and stay asleep when I go inside the restaurant.

Wish me luck!

Sasha

Alicia - Oh your poor thing! Make sure to add this to your Christmas list: Day at a relaxing spa, which includes a haircut!

Chylynn & Tgray -Thanks for the solids info. I was talking to Sarah's daycare teachers this morning about it and they think she is still acting hungry (she gets solids breakfast and dinner right now, no lunch), so I think we may add lunch in soon. Course they have been wanting me to do 3 meals a day with her since she was 4 months old, so who knows :rolleyes:. But she will be 7 months next week, so it probably is just about time.

BridalLace - Enjoy your snow day!

Diapers - We just recently moved into Size 3 diapers. So no Size 4 for awhile still. She is a long and lean baby, I could probably do Size 2 still I I wanted :o.

Jumperoo Setting -It's currently on 2, but I think I need to change it. Maybe that will get to to jump? She's still not getting it!

Advice needed on holiday gifts for daycare teachers please! Sarah has her 2 teachers that are in the room with her most of the day, another teacher who is there for maybe 1-2 hours, and then 2 floater teachers. I don't know what to do for the floater teachers. For her two main ones, I'm giving them $25 GCs and baking some cookies, the third teacher will get a $20 GC (she is like the head infant teacher) and some cookies, but can I just give the floater teachers some cookies or should I get them GCs too? TIA!

Well I think my baby has a little cold. He is sneezing a bit and coughing a bit too. He seems fine though so I hope it goes by fast. Also he seems to be choking a bit today and then burping so I think either he is gassy or maybe he has some post nasal drip-not sure. I am gonna go buy a humidifer tonight becuase it is soooo dry in the apartment!! Anyone have any idea what the choking is from??

Diapers: we're making the move to size 4s after this pack of 3s runs out. We've been using 4s Overnites for quite a while.

Jumperoo setting: looking at it right now it's on setting 2, but we could probably stand to move it up to 3. DS is just such a long kiddo!

jennylou- Will be thinking good thoughts for you on your ultrasound next week. Please keep us posted. :)

Diapers- We just moved up to size 3 last night, despite the fact that DD is about 28 inches and 18 pounds. Mommy is in denial. :rolleyes:

You girls are not going to believe this. I finally found a hardware store that carries the fuse we need for the house, so I sent DH out last night to get it around 9pm. Abbey and I were curled up on the couch relaxing when we heard a loud crash. I thought it was one of my 2 cats getting into mischief, but they were both with me on the couch. :confused: So, I grabbed Abs and went into the guest room, where I found that the light fixture had mysteriously fallen from the sky and shattered on the wood floor. WTH???? I am beginning to wonder if the ghost of Christmas past is trying to tell us something.

As if that's not enough. AF made her wonderful return today. Yippee. And, Abbey's bottle wasn't put together tightly enough, so it spilled all over me at daycare when I dropped her off. At least it wasn't breast milk, but still. ENOUGH! My poor baby is still suffering from separation anxiety too. All week she has been screaming when I drop her off, which is making me feel miserable (and late for work!). Poor mommy and poor Abbey!

ETA: I have cramps!!! AGH!

Diapers ~ No size 4's for us yet. We are still using size 1/2s in swaddlers (though I think we may need to move up to size 2 in them but finishing up the package first) and size 2 in huggies supremes. My little one is long and lean so it's going to be a while before we move up to even size 3's.

BridalLace ~ Enjoy your snow day! We got our snow on Wednesday and it's still here. I think it's going to be here until the weekend at least.

Chylynn ~ Have fun at the Christmas party. Hopefully Rebecca will coorperate for the party. Of course I'm sure that if she wakes up everyone won't mind. Seems that everyone always enjoys seeing a little one.

Sasha ~ I would think that the cookies are fine for the floater teachers. My mom always baked some cookies and made candy for my teachers when I was in elementary school. When I was in preschool we gave my teachers (I had 2 teachers) some nice smelly items (I happened to run across their thank you notes in some of my items that were packed) - i.e. bath salts, bubble bath, etc. For the woman who babysat me, my mom gave her and her family a big tray of homemade cookies and candy, an ornament, and then each of her family members got an ornament as well. That's because we were REALLY close friends with them.

ally ~ Hope your little one feels better soon.

jennylou ~ Best of luck with your u/s next Tuesday. I think of you often. {{{HUGS}}}

MayJune05 Moms ~ Could you change my DH's age to 39. I totally forgot that I had posted our ages and since his birthday was almost a month ago I had better have it changed. Blame that on the mommy brain. :o

ahavnes ~ You poor thing! Makes you wonder what is going to happen next, huh?

Our stud horse arrived last night. And the girls are already checking him. I wish it had not been getting dark when he arrived because I would have been able to get one excellent picture of the three of them together smelling each other's nose. Jo wasn't even up here when he arrived but she came on a dead run when she heard noises. Sissy was already up at the fence. In fact Sissy seems a bit more interested than Jo does. But that could be because she has had a colt before and Jo hasn't. Jo was suppose to have been bred while we were in Mississippi 3 years ago but we don't think that ever happened. Too long of a story to get into here but we plan on talking to the guy where she was supposedly taken to see if she was ever there. If not we have the cancelled checks that we wrote to our friends (so called friends after what they did to us 2 years ago).

It got bitterly cold here last night. At 9 pm it was already 7 degrees and it was suppose to go below zero last night. Today isn't suppose to be much better. The high with the wind chill is suppose to be 10 below zero. BRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

rancher ~ No good ideas for ya sleepwise, but I'm right there with ya. When I have enough of Nic's wakings... he comes into bed with me and is good for a good stretch... I like the sleep too much to even think of changing it up...

Carissa...LOVE those pics... I took Nic out in the snow (well, before it became slush... we missed out on the most recent snowfall :( and only got ice ...icky... but, I never thought to bring out a white blanket for him to sit on..LOVE grace's jacket!

ahavnes ... {{HUGS}} ... with a week like that... at least next week HAS to be better?

diapers ~ We're solidly in size 3's. Did some experimenting with some other brands this time, but cruisers really are better than the others.

So... I don't think I mentioned it here, but on Tuesday Nic spit up blood. Called the ped who said it could be a bit of reflux, etc. - she wasn't worried unless it happened again. Posted here, found out a few people have had that happen when their dc bit/cracked their nipples and it was their blood ... had a tiny lil sore on the boob he was last on...decided it was my blood and breathed a sigh of relief. Well... it happened again today. I was feeding him, looked down, and saw a tiny bit of blood on his lower lip. Looked at my boob .. a bunch of blood. (it didnt hurt at all... i had thought he was over his mouthing issues...can't call em teething cause no teeth have come through...but a few days earlier in the week my boobs could tell his gums were hurting him) anyway, wiped the boob off..NO BLOOD/sore/scab...nothing. Called the ped, who said just to watch it and see if I could tell where it was coming from (him/me/gums/etc)... 2 minutes after I hung up the phone, he spit up blood again! Called the ped back who said come right now. So, we went to the ped. She checked him out, and didnt see where it could be coming from... so she said that it was most likely acid reflux and prescribed zantac. (He was a spitter upper before, but that was getting much better ... we haven't really had any issues with reflux before that I could tell..) We're not to start any new foods... we can continue with the ones he's had already. We give him the medicine for 2 weeks, then revisit...unless he spits up blood again and then we'll go back earlier. If this doesnt clear it up, we go see a g/i specialist. I almost want to go see one now... I'm a little leery of this being just reflux at this point in time, unless he's having issues with some of the foods he's eating (sweet potatoes, bananas, apples, broccoli, acorn squash, avacado) ... The only thing I can think of that could connect the 2 is that both nights before it happened, I had a peppermint patty. I *think* I've had them at other times too, but I'm not totally sure. I really try hard to stay away from caffeine - could the lil chocolate in a peppermint patty have enough caffiene to trigger something like that ... eh, I need to get a notebook and start writing down everything the 2 of us eat (my orders, not docs...figure it can't hurt)(ok, sorry for the long rambling...)

Hello Ladies, Emma is getting bigger and has her 6 month appointment on Monday. I wanted to catch up with everyone and see where all of the other baby's were at!

Diapers - we just moved to a size 3 we went from pampers swadlers to baby dry and I am not quite sure I like them, for those of you that loved swadlers what size 3 diaper did you move up to?

Emma also loves the FP aquarium often at 4am she is up playing with it :rolleyes:

I am pretty sure this is going to be our Christmas card photo:

Let me sing you my song of hatred for Baby Dry Diapers. ;) I truly do hate them. They're not the equivalent to Swaddlers, Cruisers are. Baby Dry diapers don't have elastic on the tabs so they leak more, a lot more, I've found. Cruisers always have pictures of babies crawling or walking which make you think they're for bigger babies but Aidan wears their size 3s.

Happy~How scary!?! Good for you for calling the ped! Hopefully things get cleared up soon!

BAM~From what I understand, Cruisers are comparable. I tried the Baby Dry and hated them!! We are planning on using Cruisers after DD outgrows the Swaddlers.

Today we got family pictures and Christmas pictures of Shylah! They came out so good. The photographer has a combo digi/film cam, so she was able to put them on her computer for us to view!! She will only print 15 proofs for the free no sitting fee session, and they will be back in a week! :eek: We were able to choose from the 30+ shots what our 15 would be. Talk about a tough decision, as they were all so good! Then, if we order by the 16th, our pics will be in by Christmas!!! :D She will be uploading them to the internet, so I'll have to post a link here for you all to see.

Oh, that's so scary! Sorry you are dealing with this, and I do hope he's okay. Keep us posted, alright? And you probably are right on to think about keeping a log of your diet. dbers is very familiar with allergies...check out her thread on babies' allergies and see if there's anything there helpful.

Everyone I know who buys Baby Dry hates them, so I've never bothered with them.

Hee hee hee, naughty girl. ;) I know about bad habits: some nights I am just so darn tired I'll comfort nurse Thomas just to get him to sleep if he wakes in the middle of the night....because I know I can fall asleep in the chair while he does his thing :p .
I don't know what to call it, but I do a kind of comfort-thing to get him in and keep him in his crib. Here's how it goes:
First off, I put him to bed when he's tired, not according to the clock. He usually takes a 5-7pm (or so) nap, gets a bath, then we play on the floor for a while til he's tired, usually by 9pm he's ready to sleep but not cranking.
I swaddle him in a thin flannel recieving blanket (it's just for 'show', since he can get out of it if he really wants to), pop a binky in his mouth, and don't talk.
I hold him horizontally in my arms next to the crib and pat his back while swaying him, then progressively pat softer and swing less for about a minute or two. He is awake but relaxed.
Then I lay him in the crib, turn on the FP Aquarium to the waves & lights and run away.
I'll let him fuss or whine, but if he cries, I pick him up, do the same pat/sway thing for less than the 1st time, put him back in, turn up the FP Aquarium a tad, then run out.
If he fusses again, pat/sway again for a little less time. Etc etc.
I find that now that we're in a routine, if he needs to be picked up more than twice, somthing is up (gas, pee, poop, whatever).

They all look so cute & happy!

solids question OK my solids experts question!! So DS has been getting cereal once at night for about 3 weeks. We decided to start more this week. So I gave him ceral in the AM and peas at night. How much peas should I give him?? I have that little jar and just put some it and he ate a good amount. Also how long till I give him something else? should I stick to peas for a week?? Also after this do I stick to veggies or do I start fruit?

TIA!

SOLIDS: I give as much as he'll eat. If he'll eat the whole jar, great! As far as how long before adding another food to the diet, I usually go 3 days. I figure if something was going to happen it would happen by then. Now I'm sure this is not the only right answer, but it's what works for us.

I started out giving Aidan a whole jar of Stage 1 sized foods. Now she's on Stage 2 and she eats a whole jar which are larger. As far as waiting between eating, I wait for her cues to let me know she'd like a bottle like being fussy, sucking on her hands or mine. I fed Aidan a new food for 7 days to make sure she didn't have any allergies. After 7 days I started her on something new. We haven't tried anything new in a while so she gets some variety, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, peas and green beans. She also eats pears, applesauce and bananas but not very often. But, when we gave her fruits we did it the same way we did veggies. Aidan mostly eats veggies as I don't want her to get accustomed to fruits and sweet things (same reason she won't get juice for a very long time.)

Baby Dry~I got a pack as a gift, and MIL gave me a pack she had already opened! I hadd 200 of those awful things to get through! :eek: The church was so full of small sizes that they wouldn't take any either! Ugh!

tgray~Woohoo for Aiden!!! :cool:

Ally~You'll want to wait a minimum of 3 days to check for allergies. After that, my dr allowed us to start either fruit or veggies, so we alternated. Shylah will eat either without a problem. Some babies will refuse veggies though for a while if they've had fruit. Sometimes, I'll mix things up and give her half fruit half veggie in one sitting just for variety! DD eats about a jar at lunch, and maybe 1/2 a jar at night. He'll tell you when he's full, so just let him eat!

I am quite tired!! We had a family from church over for the afternoon, and they have three very high energy boys! We spent the time after lunch chasing them around, keeping track of Shylah, and taking care of their mom who is pg with #4 - a girl this time! I think I'll kick back this evening!

solids In the beginning I waited a couple of days...but I kinda feed her everything now. I think in the beginning she might eat 1/2 of the stage one jar. I just kinda watched her...if she wants more I give it to her. Now she eats 1 jar at a sitting or 1/2 jar and cereal. I give MK fruits and veggies interchangably. I feel that she is going to like them or she won't.

I used baby dries in the beginning and they were fine. As she got older I didn't like them as much. MK is still in size 3. I think she might be thining out with all the crawling.

Diapers - I went right from Swaddlers to Cruisers. LOVE them!! When we were buying the size 2 swaddlers, they had samples of the cruisers so I fiugered it was similar. :)

Jumperoo - We're still on setting one. When are you supposed to change it? She seems to be fine with it on one, though... Maybe I have a shortie too. ;)

BAM - Howdy from another mommy with an Emma!!

Happy - I am so sorry to hear about the bleeding! I do hope that the zantac helps him

Solids - We always gave Emma what she wanted. If it was too much, she'd give some of it back to us. So that's how I'd figure out the right amount. Right now we give her 1/2 jar of Stage 2 and then about 6 oz of formula.

Meats - Still having trouble.... *sigh*

Happy1: I'm sorry to hear about Nic's bleeding. It must have been scary. Keep us updated, okay?

Rancherswife: Asher's been sleeping with us since he was 6 weeks old. I move him into our bed the first time he wakes up. I didn't intend to cosleep, but it was just easier, since he would wake up again when I tried to put him in the bassinet after feeding him.

That said, Asher gave us a random gift last night and STTN (10:30-8:30) :eek:!! I know it's probably a fluke, but still... I actually got a little cuddle time with DH in the morning (remember him? ;) ) And then it was funny when Asher nonchalantly woke up in his crib, like he always sleeps in there.

I wish I could say we did something to make him do that, but he actually had a terrible time falling asleep last night. It took two hours to get him to sleep, and he was screaming, and we didn't know if he was overtired, or teething, or had a cold (he's coughing), or the sudden appearance of an uncomfortable-looking diaper rash. We resorted to Motrin and shushing and nursing in the end.

Now watch, he'll go back to waking up 3-4 plus times per night. But I feel soo much better today. :)

Babyproofing: Anyone done this yet? I'm not sure what to do, and Asher is crawling into everything. I can put safety locks on cabinets and we've got outlet covers, but the problem is that when you've got a 3-room apartment, the playroom is also the computer room and storage room, so Asher is going right from his toys to the computer wires, to DH's bike, to bags of laundry detergent, to the vacuum... I grew up in a big house in the suburbs (I recently noticed that my childhood bedroom is the size of two rooms together in our apt.) so we just wouldn't let my little brothers play in the more dangerous rooms. But here I have to keep pulling him out of trouble.

Happy1 - How scary, I hope Nic is doing better now.

Solids - LOL, seems like this topic is right up there with sleep ;). I always wait 3-4 days when trying a new food. We seemed to have a problem with peaches, so I stopped those after the first day (she had a rash on her neck - don't know if it was coincidence or a reaction, but we are waiting awhile before trying them again.) As of yesterday, we introduced a solids feeding of lunch and spacing her bottles out more. She seemed to do well. So now she will get oatmeal and usually about a 1/2 jar of fruit mixed in with it for breakfast, a veggie or fruit for lunch and a veggie or fruit for dinner, maybe with some oatmeal. She will eat anywhere from a 1/2 jar to the whole jar, she will close her mouth and turn her head away when she is full. When do you start Stage 2 Foods? I think the only stage 1 we have left to try is Prunes. Do you move on to Stage 2 once you've done all the stage 1 foods, or should I wait a little while and keep doing stage 1?

Babyproofing -Haven't yet but will probably need to soon. Sarah was scootching herself backwards a few weeks ago, so I thought we were well on our way to crawling and babyproofing, but she doesn't do it as much anymore (she prefers to roll herself to where she needs to get, lol). So, when it looks like she is closer to crawling, we'll babyproof. (Ha, I've probably jinxed myself and when I pick her up from daycare today, they will tell me she started crawling :p)

I hear ya!
As soon as we get back from chicago, we're baby proofing. I'm going to gate off the living area and safety it the best I can: shorten cords to under 12", outlet covers, padding on the coffee table edge, block off the fireplace, remove the wine rack, use big pillows to block the tv stand and hutch. My friend and I are taking turns checking out each others' efforts to see if anything is missed.

I need to move the crib down a notch, since Thomas is starting to sit up a little. I cant believe how fast that happened!

Crawling backwards
My friends daughter does it, and it makes me laugh to go "BEEP BEEP BEEP" luck a truck in reverse when she gets going. Hee hee hee..

I don't think I'm going to feed DS baby food meat. When he's ready I'll give him chicken from my plate, beef from DH's. We'll see how that goes in a few months when it's time.

allyray
Solids: Our DSs are about the same age, so I figured I'd answer.
I fed him rice cereal a.m.s for 5 days, he was doing well so I added an evening feed as well (he finishes about 1oz EBM w/ 1/2 TBS rice each time). On the 7th day I switched it up to oatmeal 2x a day, same servings since he's doing well.
On the 14th day I'm adding Sweet Potatoes a his 'lunch'. I have 2.5oz jars, and will let him take up to 1/2 the jar for the 1st couple days just so he doesn't overdo it. If it goes well, I'll let him have as much as he wants. We'll do that for 4 days, then try a new veggies for 4 days, and so on.

Sleeping & Eating
My kid sleeps SO WELL during the days, I feel like one lucky broad. :D I can't wait to nap with him later today, we had such a looooooong day yesterday.
Last night he did better too: slept 8:30pm-11:30pm, woke a little unsettled (I didn't feel great - it may have been something I ate) so I nursed him to sleep. He slept til 6:30am, ate, then slept until 8:30am. WAHOO! Not too shabby.
And he is *loving* the oatmeal. Smiles, laughs and yells for it during his feeding. So adorable.

Solids - At first I was watitng about a week in between, now I do about 5 days. We began 2nd Stage foods after Emma's 6 month appointment, when the doctor gave me the go ahead. :)

Babyproofing - We're looking at it as when she looks like she's closer to crawling, we'll start. This will be a total nightmare with our entertainment center!! And the fact that we have a lot of open space so we'll need to have a lot of baby gates!

Sasha - Because I'm oblivous like that, I just noticed that Sara was born the day before Emma! :)

Abbey is getting her shots today. Yuck. I really hope she does well, b/c Scott and I are going out of town this weekend and are leaving her with his parents for 3 days. :eek: We're going to Austin to househunt and decided it would just be too much to bring her along, since we'll be looking at about 20 houses over the course of 2 days. I need some reassurance though! I am feeling so anxious about leaving my baby for 3 days and 3 nights. I know the IL's will give her lots of love and great care, but still.... I'm trying to concentrate on how nice it will be to stay in a hotel with DH, enjoy hot baths, reading in bed, dinners out, and HEAT! ;)

Solids: I am lucky if I can get Abbey to eat half a jar of Stage 1. She seems to think it's playtime with the spoon. :rolleyes:

Baby Proofing- I think I still have a while. She is really trying to crawl, but she's not there yet. That's fine by me for now!

Rancherswife- As you know, Abbey is pretty accustomed to sleeping with us. The last few nights, I've been moving her to her crib once she falls asleep. We do this in the middle of the night too and it's been working fairly well. I'm sure it's not the best solution, but it's working for now. ;)

EM's Mom: For about $10 you can buy something called a KidCo food mill. My mom used one when we were little, and you just put the meat (or brocolli, or peas, or even just whatever you're eating) in there, and it turns it into baby food. I bought one the other day.

That said, both DH and I are vegetarians, so I doubt we'll give Asher meat at all. I just have to find some high-protein alternative, like beans or lentils or cottage cheese, or something. Need to do some research.

Stage 2 Foods I started after I went through each of the stage 1. To me the only difference is the amount...the texture of the food is the same...and then you get into combination foods. If DD has had both foods I give her the combination or watch her if I haven't. I will not give her mac n cheese or the dessert kinds just because it sounds yucky to me and fruit is dessert enough!

Hi girls! DH is at the Georgia Dome watching the Falcons on Monday night Football, so I have the house to myself (with Maia and the dogs, of course) ;).

Carissa - LOVE the snow pictures.

happy1 - How scary! Please keep us posted!

BAM - LOVE the Christmas photo of Emma.

tgray - YAY Aiden!

dreshny - woohoo Asher on STTN!

ahavnes - goo luck with the househunting! Just to make you feel a little better (maybe), we left Maia with the ILs for two nights last week while we were having the house painted, and she did great. This was my first time EVER being away from her overnight, and yes, it was tough, but it is nice to know that we are able to leave her with DH's parents if we have to.

babyproofing - We got really lucky in that our house was completely babyproofed when we moved in. Plugs in outlets, gate at the top of the stairs, cabinets with locks, etc. so we don't have to do anything but make sure that our fireplace is safe and our furniture can't harm her.

Other than that, Maia's second bottom tooth is cutting through. I saw the little ridges tonight, and I know she's hurting because she went to bed late for her (7:30 rather than 6). I had put her down at 6, but she woke up 15 minutes later screaming her head off...I know, please don't hate me b/c I'm complaining that my baby went to be at 7:30...I got lucky in that I have a great sleeper (she takes after her daddy). :o

Oh, and Maia "said" her first word yesterday..."dada." DH is over the moon excited...but does it count if she says dada when she talks to the dogs too? :rolleyes:

Make your own baby food ~ I've been making ours in a food processor too. The longer you leave it in there, the finer it is. The first batch of sweet potatoes I made was a lot more coarse than the current batch is... (i found chunks, but I picked the big ones out when feeding nic) ... He didn't seem to mind either consistency. And, we're skipping the meat until he can feed it to himself. Ugh...not what I want to smell...

Baby proofing ~ Hasn't even crossed my mind. Nic has rolled over, but he doesn't seem to want to go anywhere. I think part of the problem is that he really likes to be held/touched, so his independent floor time is very limited. Even at night, he prefers snuggling to laying by himself (and, he knows the sescond you move, so its not like you can even snuggle him back to sleep and then move... I'm gonna have a baby boy in my bed til he leaves for college i think...:rolleyes:

Anyone been prescribed zantac for babies with reflux? Nic is on it now... and he's only been on it since friday night, but his sleep has totally downturned (and here I thought he didn't have anywhere to go that way). That, and his poop has been looking like creamed spinach -- and we cut out all solids except sweet potatoes - so its not from his veggies. (we're back at the beginning, introducing solids wise... but this time i'm taking notes of everything... ugh.) Anyone know if thats normal?

Have a good night all!

Happy - Lily has been on Zantac for a week today because of reflux. After two doses of it, she was doing much better. No more spitting up! It hasn't affected her sleep at all and I think her poop hasn't changed in color or texture..it generally comes out looking a lot like it went in - haha - but I think she is pooping more. She is eating all #2 solids, even meat meals (like Chicken Noodle or Vegetable Beef) with no problems. We had a checkup with the ped. today to see how the Zantac was working and she has gained 9 oz in 7 days...very good for my little underweight peanut! Not sure if that helps at all, but that is my experience with Zantac. I'm so glad she has been on it - it's made a world of difference!!

Hi Ladies! James says MERRY CHRISTMAS! (We used this for our Christmas Card!)
http://www.pbase.com/wendym/image/53486762/medium.jpg

Here are links to a couple new photos:
Mmmm...beans: http://www.pbase.com/wendym/image/53486760/large.jpg

Hey Dog...want some beans? http://www.pbase.com/wendym/image/53486761/large.jpg

happy - good for you for making food. Honestly, I looked at the prices of baby food....and I looked that the amount of time I have and thought I'd just buy it! No zantac here....but boy has James been spitting up a whole lot. When he was itty-bitty, he never spit. NOW, he gets me at least twice a day.

Aunt Liv - Yay for the new tooth.....one down, how many to go? Love that she's saying Dada! Even to the dog!

Babyproofing - not yet. Should really think about it, though. He is reaching for EVERYTHING!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James is sick :( Poor little beaner. He has a frog that has taken up residence in his throat. I think he's intrigued by it, though, because he was extremely talkative tonight. The frog makes the pteradactyl screech about an octave higher than normal....I think there may be some broken glass in Target.
Got him a Jumperoo for Christmas. Grandma is buying it (but could only find a display model in her town, so asked me to pick it up) :)
I looked at Stage 2 foods tonight... But there was something about Sweet Peas and Turkey. Just.Couldn't.Do.It.
Operation "Take Back The Night" is going well - I think we're on about night 7 or so. We had a tough night right in the beginning, but we've gone from waking up at 10 or 11, 1 or 2, and 3 or 4, down to just once at 4 AM. I've simply cut the nursing down from as much as he wants to 60 seconds or less. The first night he protested for nearly 2 hours (more "complaining" as opposed to crying). Now, he protests for 2 minutes, and goes back to sleep. Last night he probably only ate for 30 seconds.... Maybe tonight we'll try none at all....we'll see. I feel less Zombie and more Human. Which is good.
Gotta go update my journal, and then pack up some Christmas Gifts for mailing.
thank you ladies on the solids advice!! one mroe question
did you baby drink less when you introduced 2 feedings? I had the nanny give him cereal this morning and I didn't get to feed him peas at diiner but he had one less bottle. What is the wait time between when you would give him the solid in the monring and give him a bottle. He slept late so he had
Bottel at 8
cereal at 9:30
bottle at 12:30
bottle at 3:30
bottle at 6:30
feel asleept at 8
He usually eats every 3 hrs but he feel asleep before DH could feed him again-I guess I should have her feed him sooner then 9:30?
Natalie - Thanks! I have a Canon Digital Rebel. The key is to take LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of photos....to end up with a few really nice ones!
EmsMom~Thanks! I am having such a hard time deciding what to order!
AuntLiv~Yeah for her first word!!! :cool: Hopefully that next tooth comes in quick!
Wendstress~Adorable picture!!! LOL at the bean pictures!
Ally~DD has seemed to drop a bottle feeding. I'm not sure whether that is from the solids or going to bed earlier, though.
Well, I'm off to bed!
Wendstress - What an adorable picture!
Ally - Once I added lunch to her schedule, I dropped a bottle but increased the amount per bottle by an ounce. She used to get 5 6 oz. bottles about every 3 hours (total of 30 oz), now she gets 4 7oz bottles every 4 hours or so (total of 28 oz). Plus she gets solids for breakfast, lunch and dinner. the whole eating schedule totally stresses me out, lol. With daycare, you have to tell them exactly when to feed, so it feels like it needs to be this exact science!
Happy1 - Sarah was on Prevacid and is now on Nexium. No Zantac for us, but the Nexium seriously works wonders! I think it has made her poop a little darker (lol, don't you love the conversations we have here :p). I wish I could tell you more about Zantac, but I can only say that once Sarah got one meds for her reflux, it made a huge difference and she was a much happier baby. I hope Nic is doing better.
Aunt Liv - Yay for Maia's first word and her second tooth!
Well, Sarah had her first accident. Yesterday at daycare, she apparently fell forward and hit her face on a toy. She had a decent black and blue mark and it was swollen plus a cut, under her right eye. She was acting fine, but when I went to touch it, she flinched. I called the ped., just in case, and she said to just ice it - ha, try putting ice on the face of a 7-month old! Anyway, the swelling was gone this morning but the black and blue mark and cut are still there. My poor baby :(.
Now that our kids are rolling around in the crib does anyone have a child who likes to grab the top of the bumper and pull them down. My DD has started doing that - i figured it was time to remove the bumpers so I did. (just to clarify, DD wasn't pulling the bumpers off but she was pulling them pretty hard) Now i am worried that she is going to clock her head on the bars or get an arm or leg stuck. She also used to snuggle up to the bumper to sleep and now the crib looks so bare. Any thoughts?
babyproofing we haven't yest I know it is a matter of time though.
bumpers Grace loves her bumpers. She'll just feel them and look at them for long periods of time. I think she likes the colors.
I think it is time for Grace to move to her crib. Up until now she has been sleeping in her pak n play and sleeping in her crib for naps. She sleeps much better in her crib and likes it a lot better so I think it's time to move her. It will be a lot harder for me than her.
Sasha- Poor Sarah! I hope she feels better soon. Although it is probably harder for you. ;)
Vegasgirl (Bumpers)- Funny you should mention this, we just took Abbey's bumper off last night. I noticed that she was rolling into it and her little face was smashed against it. We put one of the mesh bumpers on last night and it seems to work ok. It was a pain to get on and is not as cute as my Pottery Barn Kids one, but it does the trick. It's kind of soft, so it keeps her from banging her head (I hope!) and she can breathe through it. It also keeps her little hands and feet in the crib. I got it online at Walmart.
Sick Babies- Feel better soon!
Bumper: We were given a cute Pottery Barn one, but we couldn't find it when we set the crib up, so for now, there's no bumper. Though Asher does seem to keep getting stuck with his legs between the slats.
So Asher has his first cold. :( Like Aiden, he has a bad cough, and the ped said it was probably post-nasal drip. He's also sneezing, and he sounds congested. Oddly, though, hes acting pretty happy, so I don't think he's too bothered by it. He's still crawling everywhere, and the sneezing is making him laugh. I think he thinks the coughing is funny, too, because he's trying to imitate himself with a fake cough. I'm just trying to make him nurse more than usual and encouraging him to nap. He needs to be better for his photo shoot on Saturday.
colds -- add hazel to the list :( leaky nose, congested.. poor baby :(
bumpers -- still have ours on.. she likes to look at them and scratch at them... as soon as she starts pulling up on them i guess they'll have to come off..
babyproofing -- not sure how much of this we're going to do besides the outlet plugs.. and anchoring the bookcases to the wall. we're of the mindset that its better to teach the kid what they should or shouldnt get into..
Bumpers we still have ours on..they are the PBK as well. I took them the other day off to wash them...and lazy me didn't put it back on right away and DH griped about it. He is afraid of her getting stuck or hitting her head. So I put them back on...even though she was ok without them on. She does pull the bumpers down looking for us in the morning (this is adorbale!) but other than that no other problems. I do plan take them off eventually though.
allyray I don't know that much about food allergies. I would call your dr and talk to them about it. DD has gotten a cold recently and had it for longer than normal...but its finally clearing up. I was kinda chalking it up to the season...where we just might be more likely to get colds. Actually alot of my friends kids who are SAHM have colds...which is why I was thinking that it was just that time of year.
Sasha~Poor Sarah!
Crib Bumpers~Sometimes in the morning DD will play with her bumpers. I've toyed with removing them but haven't yet. I was initially planning on removing them when I dropped the crib to the second level, which I imagine will be soon anyway.
Carissa~Good luck with Grace's transition to her crib!
Sorry about all the sick babies. Hope this season passes quickly for everyone!
njnewyearsbride~We are the same way as you on the babyproofing. I don't want to leave something undone though. I think all we are doing is locking the chemical cabinets, gates across the stairs, and outlet covers.
Ally~Not sure about the food allergy, but it sounds like it could be one. I would call the ped and ask.
Today has been a crazy day!! We got some bad news at work that may end up in a state lawsuit. :( The city is basically wanting to take away our employee benefits, and legally they have no right to! :mad: Ugh! It's sooooooo stressful.
On a good note, though, Shylah sat up on her own today!!! It wasn't for long, but she about lost her balance, then regained it and continued to sit! :eek:
Crib bumpers - took 'em off 2 nights ago at 4 AM! Ugh... James has taken to scooting himself up to the head of his crib, so his head is either smushed right up against the bumper (which I think he likes, but it makes me nervous), or he plays with the bumper and it ends up right on his face, which really gets him PO-ed. So, it's off.
And last night he slept from 7:30 PM until 5 AM!!!!! WOOHOO!!!! We're making progress! Then I nursed him a little and he went back to sleep until 7:20 AM.
Thanks you all on the advice! Sorry I have been asking more then responding more! Things are nuts!
Aiden was up last night till 10om-not becuase he was sick-becuase he wanted to talk to me. He is still coughing and I am thinking about cutting out all solids till he gets over this. I have had him on peas since Friday and I am hoping it isn't an allergy to that either--sigh. He is suppose to get his shots Sat for his 6 month but there is no way I am gonan do that. I am gonna bring him in and get him weighed and all that but last time he ran a 102 temp with the shots and I don't need a sick and fevery baby all at the same time. So I will take him while I am on break from work
Also I would love some good job thoughts It is between myself and one other person for a job back where my parents live. We would love to go back here so any prayers would be appreaciated!!
crib bumpers Ours is still on. Addie used to scratch it with her fingernails while trying to go to sleep, but hasn't done it much anymore now that she is sucking her fingers.
babyproofing When we bought our house the kitchen cabinets were babyproofed. We just need to do the bathrooms and make sure things are up and out of her reach once she is mobile.
RASH?? DD has recently developed dry skin (she takes after me!). We've always used Johnson and Johnson lavender bedtime bath and lotion but I decided to try some other lotion we had to see if it would work better-I did this on Monday night. Tuesday she had red armpits and red around her neck, so I didn't use the new lotion yesterday, but this morning she has read ALL around her neck, in her armpits! I don't know if it's still from that lotion or something else. Any ideas? And what kind of baby lotion is good for sensitive skin?
hi guys - i know that many of you went through sleep issues around 6 months. (my dd is one of the youngest on this thread 6/21/05). We have hit that point. She was STTN from about 4 1/2 months until last week. She was a little sick with a cold and that was keeping her up - but now a week later she is clearly better but i haven't been able to get her back to STTN. She has been going to sleep around 7 and waking at 12 and then again at around 4 and taking bottles both times. Then up for the day at 6. She stopped taking food overnight 6 weeks ago! Am I not feeding her enough during the day? She gets 2 solid meals a day (bfast and dinner) Any ideas?? i haven't had a good nights sleep in almost 2 weeks and I am beat!! Napping has become a bit of a struggle too.. uuggh.
Naamah ya for Shylah sitting up!
Natalie Sounds like an allergic reaction to the new lotion. Did you change anything else like in the laundry or anything like that? I use Arbonne's ABC skin care line on Grace, we have just discovered she has sensitive skin after we changed our laundry detergent and it works really well.
vegasgirl I discovered I wasn't feeding Grace enough when she had her sleep issues. I'd started feeding her some cereal and 4-6 oz of formula in a bottle afterward and that seemed to help a lot.
Carissa Yes, I had to buy All Free and Clear because the store was out of Cheer Free. But surely that's not it! I bought it last week, I'm trying to remember what she's worn that has been washed in it! HMMMM
rash Just talked to my dad-he's a physician's assistant and he said it sounds like excema :( Good thing we have the 6 month checkup on Friday...I'll ask my new ped about it then.
vegasgirl DD did the same thing. Then over Thanksgiving she got up 3 times a night!!!!!! :eek: I've read a couple of different places that if she wakes up at random times (ie 2 one night 3:30 the next) then it's probably a growth spurt-feed her. But if its the same time every night its probably a waking habit, not hunger. If my DD wakes up it's almost always around 2. Last night she woke up and I didn't go in....she was back to sleep after 5 or 10 minutes. Good luck!
Aidan has had bouts of excema/dryskin on her elbows and legs and we use hydrocortisone cream that we bought at the grocery store on it. She also has sensitive skin. We were using J&J's vapor bath when she was stuffy and it REALLY made her break out (just like me, I can't use anything with menthol in it, makes my skin go nuts). I think the cream is 1% or maybe .5%.
Hey all,
as someone who has suffered from eczema all her life, please take your babies to a dermatologist or allergist if they are turning all red and rashy. it could be a food or pet allergy, or a dust allergy, who knows. honestly, as someone who has used cortisone creams a lot, i don't really trust the OTC ones. they can thin your skin out and you must be careful when using it on areas of your body with skin that's already delicate and thin, like the neck, scalp and face area. cortisone creams can also persuade your body to stop producing its own cortisone because it interprets less of a need when it gets it from another source. IOW, you can end up dependent on the stuff.
some dermatologists will tell you to worry about the skin thinning and the other stuff i mentioned, other derms will tell you its no big deal and scoff at your worries. i really think cortisone is a strong drug though.
i don't mean to be bossy, i just wish i'd never used a strong cortisone cream that i used back in college - i didn't know my body would stop producing its own cortisone - my skin has never been the same since.
sorry to be a busy body. :(
Heather
This thread moves so fast. ;)
Bumpers ~ We still have ours on DD's crib. With the way she is so active I really do not want her crib not to have it. I don't want her bumping her head against the rails or head/footboards. But at the same time I don't want the bumper to cause a problem either.
Sick babies ~ Hope all the babies are feeling better soon.
ally ~ Good luck on the possible new job. Hope you get it.
I don't have a sick baby but I'm fighting being sick. I had strep a couple of weeks ago and it has made a return visit. I'm definitely feeling better than I was Sunday/Monday. If I could have taken DD to someone for them to watch on Monday I would have done it. All I wanted to do was sleep. I felt so bad for putting her in the swing and going back to sleep. DH came home at lunch (he didn't feel good on Sunday) and took some sick time on Monday afternoon. He watched DD so I could get some much needed rest even though he wasn't feeling the best either. Plus he was trying to get some homework done and study for his last final which is tonight.
In other happy news, my cousin and his wife had their little boy arrive in late Nov. I guess I shouldn't say little as he was quite a big boy! Arriving at nearly 10 lbs. I wish that his mom and my grandma could be here to enjoy the little ones. They would be on cloud 9 with DD and my cousin's boy. Oh well, they are watching from above.
Haven't been around the last couple of days...trying to finish x-mas shopping (still have MORE!) and just seem to be super busy this week:confused:
Kim:Thanks for the detailed tips for getting him in his crib. I think I'll give that a try. :) I too am guilty of comfort nursing Landon, oh well, I'm sure he'll be in counseling for it when he's 30 ;). Your rountine at night sounds very much like ours minus the crib. As I have noticed a lot over the last 6 mos. I find that our boys are a lot a like in a lot of ways, so maybe this little routine will work for us.
I think I'm gonna go buy the fp aquarium for his crib. We've got the Symphony in Motion, but to be honest, he's kinda over that. He adored it when he was younger, plus...I don't really think it's that calming? Any one else find that? So, he'll probably get a fp aquarium for x-mas along with the rest of his plunder. I do have to admit, I'm having a blast shopping for him. But I DO need to stop and focus on the others on my list:rolleyes: .
solids: We have not had great luck w/ solids. But, I do have to say, he's getting better and better at it with each day. ahavnes, Landon is doing great if I can get 4-5 spoon fulls down him. He too thinks it's play time. He's also been trying to out-smart me, sneaky little dude, he'll take a bite, then, give me a big smile and scrunch his head down into his bib and spit it all out! Too funny these babies are!
cynder: Continuing to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers!
Ok...now, to finish catching up on the rest of the thread!
solids - Lily has 2 jars of #2 solids 3 times a day and one bottle before she goes to bed around 4:30ish. I know it is crazy that she goes to bed that early but if we try to keep her up later she gets overtired and miserable. She screams and gets SO upset. So she is in bed around 4:30-4:45 and is happy as a clam and usually asleep pretty quick. She will sleep until 6am. It's definitely a nice break for Mommy! :)
bumpers - I still have hers on. She likes to feel it but doesn't pull on it yet.
sitting up - Still not yet...Do I have the oldest baby on the thread not sitting up?? :(
tgray99 - Lily complains if I am not moving the spoon fast enough too. What is it with these May 9th babies? ;)
So, he'll probably get a fp aquarium for x-mas along with the rest of his plunder. I do have to admit, I'm having a blast shopping for him.
Sitting: Asher can sit, but he doesn't. Half the time he doesn't even want to be put in a sitting position. And he's wobbly because he doesn't practice--he falls over fast. On the other hand, if you put him in a standing position in the crib, he can balance with only one hand on the rail. It's crazy! He may walk before he sits consistently.
Asher's still sick. :( It really, really sucks, because we are going to Philly today to have his 6-month portraits taken on Saturday by a pricey pro photographer. Yes, I realize we may have to cancel. What sucks even more is that if we go, my parents could catch it (DH and I are already getting it), and my mom is throwing a big anniversary party for my grandparents next weekend. What a mess! If we reschedule, though, how will we know he won't be sick again in January?
Bumpers - We still have ours on. Sarah doesn't grab them or put her face into them. She is so mobile in her crib that I like to still have them on so she isn't banging into the rails. Plus they are so pretty and it looked so bare when I took them off once ;)
Solids - After her strike a few weeks ago, she is now taking them like a champ. Gets very upset in fact if she has to wait too long in between bites. She does however go after the spoon sometimes, thinking it's either a toy or something to teeth on.
Sick babies - I hope they all get better soon!
Wow!
So is anyone else finding it nearly impossible to change their baby's diaper these days? Sarah looks like she is trying to do "the worm" on her back, lol. She is so squirmy when I try to change her diaper or put clothes on/off. Sometimes I just do it on the floor now cause I'm afraid she's going to launch right off the changing pad! I try giving her a toy, but that doesn't work for very long.
I have a funny story. My IL's are coming in town tonight and will take care of Abbey this weekend while Scott and I are in Austin. My IL's really are great. But...;) MIL asked Scott how often we give Abbey a bath. Scott tells her that we do it every other night. MIL says "Well, we'll be giving her a bath every night. When you and your sister were little, we gave you a bath and a bottle every night and then put you to bed." Hah! Good luck with all that! :p Like we haven't tried that trick a few times over the last 6 months. Seriously though, I am really nervous about her waking up a zillion times at night. She goes to sleep just fine (usually), but wakes up about 2 or 3 times. I hope MIL and FIL are ok with getting just a little sleep! :)
Solids- Abbey also cries if I don't feed her fast enough. Maybe she gets it from me, b/c I am a really fast eater.
Sitting- Abbey can sit in the tripod position for quite a while, but she always falls over if she doesn't have her hands to support her. I think my mom said that I didn't sit up until 8 months (or something crazy like that), so I am expecting a late bloomer.
Sasha- Abbey does the same thing with her spoon. She's crazy. :)
We are back having trouble sleeping again. Wish I knew why. Maybe I should up her intake of solids and see if that helps. We have a Dr's appt tomorrow for shots so hopefully that will rule some things out as well.
So is anyone else finding it nearly impossible to change their baby's diaper these days? Sarah looks like she is trying to do "the worm" on her back, lol. She is so squirmy when I try to change her diaper or put clothes on/off. Sometimes I just do it on the floor now cause I'm afraid she's going to launch right off the changing pad! I try giving her a toy, but that doesn't work for very long.
Yup! I swear Aidan is going to be a gymnist as flexible as she is! She squirms, arches her back, tries to turn over, bangs her feet, whatever she can do to keep from laying flat. At home it's not so bad, I try to occupy her and I can usually take my time. It irritates me at restaurants and out in public because she's usually on a public restroom changing table and I DON'T want her to touch anything!
Bumpers: Aidan's are still on. She doesn't mess with them at all and as much as she squirms all over her bed (I found her perpendicular to the direction I originally laid her in) I want the bumper to be up so she can't get stuck or hit her head.
Shots: We got our 6 month shots today! She was so good, barely cried at all. There was a lady on the other side of the room talking to her which I think helped distract her from the shots but what the lady was saying sorta bothered me. Aidan had her jeans off so they could give the shots in her legs and the lady was calling her fatty and playing with her about how fat and fluffy she was. I jokingly said, "Not fat, healthy!" It bothered me anyway. She wears at the bottom end of 6-9 month sizes or the top end of 3-6 months...right on track! She's just short so her weight rolls up rather than being stretched out. Grr...I felt my mama bear instincts coming out.
Sleeping: Somebody's baby refaxed the memo over here because for the last couple of nights, Aidan has been sleeping horribly. We'll put her down at her usual time (between 6:30 and 7) and by 9:30 or 10 she's up and crying. She's waking up about every 3 hours or so. Last night Ryan got up with her, finally putting her in bed with us on his tummy. He's exhausted and is upstairs sleeping right now. I think maybe it's her teeth? She's biting everything she can but who knows. It ought to be a lot of fun when we go to my mom's and she wakes up the whole house with her nocturnal fussings.
Changing: I was going to post this...it's IMPOSSIBLE! He flips over as soon as I put him on the changing table, then he tries to crawl away. I've mastered the upside-down diaper change. :rolleyes:
So Asher and I are in Philly (DH is coming tomorrow.) Asher's actually in good spirits, but he's very drippy. I guess we could just keep mopping him off between pictures. We're playing it by ear right now. The photographer gave us the option to wait until Sunday, so we'll see...
Wendstress~Congrats on a good night's sleep!
Nat~We just use the J&J regular baby lotion. For really rough spots I will put a little bit of diaper rash cream on the area. (We use Balmex.) I have tried to make it a habit to put some lotion on her legs with each diaper change to keep up with it. We also got a whole house humidifier from ILs, and that has helped as well.
Carissa~Thanks!! I'm pretty excited about ehr hitting this milestone!
Heather~Thanks for the info! I had no idea!
Meri~Hope you get to feeling better. Congrats on the newest addition to your family!!!
Diaper Changes~They're still pretty smooth over here.
Dreshny~Good luck with the pics!
Shylah is being such a chatter box. I swear she just babbled for a good 10 minutes straight at the top of her lungs! :eek:
I got the job! Woo-hoo, this is such a relief :D. One of the best parts is that it is considerably closer to where I live, so I won't have to do a mad-rush every afternoon to pick up Sarah.
CONGRATS Sasha! Good for you :)
Dreshny Could you please get me a soft pretzel and a cheesesteak while you are in Philly? Thanks! ;)
Changing Jack gets a little squirmy but not too bad. Doesn't interfere with me getting the diaper on or anything.
Solids Jack loves his solids! He has a fruit and a veggie at lunchtime then rice cereal and a veggie at dinnertime. He LOVES them! It's hard to even pick his favorite b/c they all seem to be his favorites.
Here is the pic we used for our Christmas card:
Sasha~Congrats on the job!!
Ally~Sorry you didn't get the job! :(
KGif~Adorable pictures!!!
Okay, ladies! Picture order is done!!! :D We got over 70 pics for less than $150! :eek: Anyway, since DH's aunt ordered so much, I decided to buy her a couple of frames for Christmas. I got her an 8x10 non-matted and an 8x10 matted for a 5x7 both for $11! :eek:
Shylah is doing great! She has been sitting up for longer periods and is able to restabalize herself when she loses her balance most of the time! Still no interest in rolling from back to front yet. She has also been such a piggy today! For lunch, she had a stage 1 fruit, 2Tbsp rice cereal, and a 4oz bottle!!
My dad said that he doesn't think we should fight the city on this whole situation. He knows what kind of financial trouble we'll be in if nothing is done, though, so he said for Christmas, he decided to make bi-weekly deposits of $50 for all of 2006. That's over $1200! :eek: I know it's not much when you consider that's for the year, but with where we are, it was such a big relief to hear.
KGIF:Adorable pics.!
sasha:Congrats!!!
Ally:So sorry, I'm sure something better will come along!:)
Changing:Yeah, it's becoming more and more dificult each day, I ususally give him a toy to play with that way he's not twisting and trying fling his body off the changing table. Keeps him distracted long enough to get the job done;) .
Dreshny:Hope Asher is feeling better and you're able to do the pics.!
ahavnes:Good luck w/ the house hunting! I'm sure Abbey will do fine w/ Scott's parents, but I understand your concern completely!;)
tgray: Glad the shots went well. We have ours on Monday:( .
solids:We're doing better and better with each passing day! He's eating the cereal like a champ now, and the veggies are getting more and more better as well! Thank goodness! It was such a fight, for a while!:rolleyes:
Nothing much going on here. Should be out finishing x-mas shopping, but Landon and I are just home relaxing today, kinda nice. Dh and I have a x-mas party to go to tomorrow night, so Landon will stay w/ my parents for a few hours! I've been a pumping fool the last few days!:)
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Sasha Congrats on the job!
Ally Sorry about the job. Do you have any more possibilities?
Sarah and DH seem to be getting over their colds. I am still struggling to get over mine! Hopefully by next week we will all be well.
Since DD has been sick I have not been giving her solids. Am I a bad mother for not giving Sarah solids? Has anyone else not given their sick child solids.
Sarah can sit for very short periods, like 30 seconds. I think she prefers to be lying down though. She has no interest in turning from back to stomach. But if I put her on her stomach she turn over very quickly.
I have noticed that Sarah is getting more active during diaper changes. Usually at the end when I am trying to get her onsies snapped. The pediatric nurse who leads my mothers group said they like to get attention, and not to make eye contact with them when they are making diapers changes more difficult. Haven't tired this yet.
Sarah has been getting up at night lately and when she does she wants to eat, as well as play, she loves to smile at me. Anyone else have this situation and if so do you ignore the smiles or interact with your DC?
Ally~Ugh! Poor Aiden. Hope he gets to feeling better!
Christy~Your DD sounds so much like mine. She has absolutely no interest in rolling from back to stomach! She'll roll up to her side to get a toy, but then if it's out of reach she'll go back to her back and cry until I get it for her. I've been waiting longer periods before giving her the toy and trying to encourage her to roll, but she's just not interested in any way!
I am slowly getting caught up on housework and holiday prep. DH is helping me this morning. Oh! There's my timer. Gotta run!
I don't have much time. Trying to get last minute decorating and wrapping done. But I did have a question that I was hoping some of you might be able to help me out with.
What do you use to get mold out of clothes? Long story short, DD got some thing on one her sleepers while we were out of town (no washer/dryer available). I rinsed it out and hung it up to dry. Apparently it wasn't completely dry by the next day (I don't remember it feeling wet when I put it in the sack when we came home) and I didn't take it out of the sack to wash for a couple of days. When I took it out of the sack I noticed it had some spots of mold on it. I've washed it a few times (treating it with the stick Spray n Wash and the Dreft spray stain remover) but it's still there. Anyone know how to get it out? :confused:
Sorry I can't help you, we had the same thing happen here except it was DH turning the dryer off and me forgetting that there were clothes (possibly still wet clothes) still in it. :rolleyes: I had to chunk a couple of really cute Gymboree outfits because they got mildew stains all over them. Grr...:mad:
yikes I am so far behind on this thread!
I got a job teaching kindergarten part-time from 11:15-3:00. It's perfect for me, because I was going stir crazy at home. This way I get to spend lots of time with Dougie and still work.
Gotta run, we are going to the Zoo. They have a neat thing where they decorate the whole zoo with Christmas lights. It's a little cold, but we are getting bundled up!
Try OxiClean. Presoak. That should get the job done.
And FWIW - I just read that OxiClean is a good jewelry cleaner....I'm off to try...
for our first baby bathtub, we had a Safety1st tub that had a little cloth hammock of sorts in it. the hammock got moldy once - i washed it with a lot of clorox and it got rid of the moldy smell (and the mold itself, i assume.)
Congrats Sasha! :)
Ally- So sorry about the job and about Aiden. I hope he's feeling better soon.
tgr68- Happy 6-mos to Shylah! :)
Well, we found a house and made an offer. It's so different from California....we actually offered under the asking price and they didn't laugh us off the planet. Needless to say, we prefer that to San Francisco, where our last offer was rejected, even though it was $100K over the asking price. Anyway, we looked at about 20 houses and fell in love with the 2nd to last one. :rolleyes: We should hopefully have the final price figured out today. I am just so glad to be back home and to see Abbey! I missed her so much! She was sleeping when I got to daycare, but it was nice just to hold her. :)
Thanks for all the congratulations. My current job has been a nightmare since I returned from maternity leave in August, so this is a much welcome change. I want to give my resignation today but my boss unexpectedly went out of town :rolleyes:. I am going to have to do it over the phone when I call him later about some other stuff. Not the way I wanted to, but it has to get done.
Sarah is sick again! She could not fall asleep last night because of her stuffy nose so at 10pm, DH strapped her in the car and drove her around. Worked perfectly, except that after 5 minutes of being back in her crib, she was up again. Ended up putting her in bed with me but it was a very restless night's sleep. She kicks a lot in her sleep!
Alicia - Congrats on making an offer! I hope it all goes smoothly. How did Abbey do with the ILs for the weekend?
tgr - Happy 6 months Shylah :).
Asher had his 6-month appt. today (yes, nearly 3 weeks late!) He is:
17 lbs 12 oz (43rd percentile)
27 inches (she forgot to tell me what percentile)
DH is 5'5", so if Asher turns out to be 5'7" or 5'8", everyone will be happy. :) I'm shorter than DH, but my brother is 6', so it's possible.
Anyway, Asher is still congested, though he is much, much better. He's on a bit of a nursing strike, though, because he's having some trouble breathing out of his nose. He refused to nurse this morning, so DH gave him BM in a sippy, and he drank it. He'll only eat when he's very, very sleepy and unable to resist (otherwise he's gagging and crying), so I have to work on gently coaxing him to eat again.
We did do the photo shoot on Saturday, since the little stinker woke up much better that day and loved being the center of attention. Hopefully, we'll see the proofs in a couple of weeks, but he shot digital, so I already know there are a lot of cute ones.
And I thought he was active before, but now he is crawling in earnest, climbing, and pulling up. Who knew I'd have an athletic kid? I was always the last one picked for teams in gym class. ;)
I got a call today from a close friend who is basically firing her babysitter for several reasons. She wants me to babysit part-time, and would pay $200 a month!! Her DD is 1 month younger than Shylah, so they would each have a playmate during the day. She is bringing me her class schedule tomorrow to see if we can work out scheduling. Then I'll have to run it my MIL with library conflicts, but I'm really hoping this will work out! It would be such a financial help for DH and I!
Shylah has been making lots of sounds like distinctly sound like "dada", so I think she may be talking in no time! :D She has also been drooling and chewing up a storm, which makes me think that teething is also right around the corner. :eek:
He has a runny nose, sneezing, and a little cough.
hazel started out with this
my pediatrician told us to give her pediacare every 6 hours.. .8ml
we also put a humidifier in her room, elevated her mattress on one end with a towel underneath.. and plugged in the pediacare 'gentle vapors' and take her into the hot steamy bathroom every so often
watch the cough though... hazels turned into bronchitis.. :(
we are now the proud owners of a nebulizer.. and shes getting her first ever antibiotics... :(
The baby colds suck, and they last a long time. Asher's lasted over a week, but luckily, it didn't turn into an infection, which is pretty common in babies.
I'm going to second nj, here:
Elevate Thomas's mattress
Use a humidifier
Saline drops and a nasal aspirator (Asher wouldn't let us do this)
We gave him Tylenol Cough and Cold when he really couldn't breathe (it has the main ingredient in Sudafed in it). It got him wired, but he could breathe.
And bear in mind that some babies (like Asher) will refuse to nurse. They lose their appetite and can't suck when their nose is stuffed. This is a bit of a problem when you are trying to fill them with liquids. In our case, he took some BM from a sippy, and was able to nurse when he was very sleepy.
