Hi guys I had my appt with the specialist today. Looks like I have a small pituitary tumor. Nothing to concerning at the moment I will be rechecked next month and have another MRI in Feb. right now we are just watching it.Carissa - I had a pituitary tumor a few years ago (it was causing some fertility problems). Luckily, they are really common and very easy to treat. I'm so glad that yours doesn't seem to be a big deal :).
Welcome, EMsMom!
alicia - Sorry about DH's grandmother. Hope the flight went ok.
BridalLace - RE:transitioning into the crib. We're about 50/50 on DD waking up when I move her into the co-sleeper. What I found to work best is to move her as quickly as possible and to rest my hand on her torso immediately after I lay her down. I leave my hand there until she settles back in and that seems to work for us.
Liv - No sitting here either (at 6m + 1w). Until today DD would just fold over nose to toes if I sat her up unassisted. Today she started resting on her arms, but she's no where near stable yet. DD is also small if we're keeping track of that in our non-scientific poll ;).

Does anyone elses babies legs twitch sometimes? I noticed it last night with A-it isn't that bad just like a tiny jerk once in a while. Of course I am trying not to freak out and hope it is either him doing it or just his muscles still developing
Also I think we are gonna start cereal this weekend. How the heck does this all work? :)

Sasha Thanks for the offer but I got the article. I work at Library and had one of the those D'oh moments when I realized I can an online version. Thanks!
Solids So we had one sitting where he seemed to like rice cereal but since then no luck. Going to try oatmeal and banana this weekend. allyray take 1 T of rice cereal or oatmeal and mix with 4-5 T for the first feeding. It will be really watery and just feed him. It takes ahwile for them to get the hang of it.
Happy 6 Month Birthday to all the babies turning 6 months.

DD has her second cold/virus of her short life. She will be 6 months on the 21st. I am having working mother guilt as I think she probably got it from day care. Now I am questioning why I ever agreed to go back to work.
DH wants me to steralize everything that she has touched. Any suggestions on hard plastic toys?
Thanks heavens it is the weekend so DH can spend the night on the couch with her.

Wow, 6 months[/b[] already. Happy birthday babies! This is going sooooo fast!
[b]christy
We tend to do a lot of toy sharing with Thomas' friends. i wash his soft toys in lingerie bags, and the plastic toys I wipe down with antibacterial wipes. I believe you can also spray them with Lysol, just let them fully air dry before letting baby near them. I get a little freaked by this, so I'd spray them, let them dry, then just rinse them off first.
allyray
My DH still cracks me up when he falls asleep, because he twitches like crazy. And I noticed that sometimes DS will have a leg or arm twitch just like him, when he's dozing or about to fall asleep.
alicia
My thoughts are with you guys. So sorry.
Carissa
Glad to hear its nothing serious!
KGif
If he seems satisfied, IMO there's no need to add much more unless you want to see if he'd take it. I find when I do EBM in a bottle DS never drinks exactly the same amount - just like you or I are more hungry some days/meals than others. As long as he's happy and not cranky when the bottle's done, you may be good.
Sitting up
Not yet, though he now loves to 'stand'.
Anti-Tummy Time
My tummy-time loving guy now FREAKS if he's on his tummy too long. And now instead of propping himself on his arms, he's holding his arms out like he's flying, flaps them and screams. It's like he's trying to do something else, and forgot how to just chill out on the belly.
Does this mean something? I want to say I read *somewhere* that this back-arching tummy freakout leads to something next....
A Little better
He did a little better again last night, though yet again took an extra feeding at midnight and needed to be patted back to sleep a couple times.
(note to Thomas: PLEASE figure out what you want or leave me a memo and move on so we can both STTN again. Thank you.)
QOTD: Is your house a MESS?
I feel like my day never ends, that I am always running around, doing errands, picking up the apartment, et etc yet:
- we never have groceries, even thoo I go 1-2x a week
- the place is always a mess
- the laundry piles up
- there are more dishes in the sink than we've uses (can they spontaneously reproduce, or do dirty dishes have sex at night and deliver new baby dishes within 12 hours??)
Am I the only one?? It's like I am BANG out of bed in the morning puttering around the apartment and collapse into bed at night still doing the same. Yet it's still a mess....
allyray231
11-11-2005, 09:28 AM
Thanks Kim Yeah it seemed to happen when he was falling asleep. I mean he kicks his legs none stop so I assume maybe they are just tired!
christy I usually just wash the toys with hot soap and water but when DH was sick I sprayed some stuff with Lysol and let it air dry then rinsed it like Kim said
STTN Oh how I miss those times. If my kid woke up crying it would be one thing bue he just wakes and moves around a ton and won't go back down. Next time this happens I think I am gonna change his diaper
[QOTD: Is your house a MESS?/B] The only good thing about having a nanny is that I feel like I have to keep the house in order. Now it might be tidy but clean is a whole other story. Oh and as far as dishes--we use paper now-it is a lifesaver

Trying to catch up at it has been a busy week! Glad to see everyone is doing OK and Alicia my thoughts are with your family.
Solids - Jack has been doing oatmeal for about a month and will start food soon. I am reading my Super Foods book as I plan to make most of his food. He is 6 months on Wednesday and need to get on the ball. Is anyone else making food would love to know any hints!
Sitting UP - Jack has almost mastered this and can do it for a couple of seconds. Usually ends up in a Yoga poise wanting to eat his feet.
Teeth - Jack has cut his first tooth! I wsa traveling Monday night and apparently he was up every 45 minutes with Daddy and it was not a good night. For the past 3 nights he has slept from 6:45 to 6:45 and has been so nice and hope it continues. I am thinking the tooth probably broke the surface Tuesday or so because I felt him bitting me a little when nursing but now seems to be ok.

toys - I've boiled Maia's hard plastic toys before, and there hasn't been a problem. Just boiled them for ~5 mins at the most. Other than that, I just wash them with hot water and soap. Her soft toys, I put in the laundry and let them air-dry.
carissa - I'm glad it's nothing too serious.
ladybug - sweet potatoes are really easy to puree. I haven't wandered much outside of that, just b/c there aren't a lot of solid food options until they hit 6 months, so next week, I'll start making new things.
the bumbo! - One of the girls from our playgroup let me borrow it yesterday (her son is 1 already), and Maia loves it! Hopefully, this will encourage her to sit up on her own a bit more.

Ugh, I am sick and feel like crap. Barely got any sleep last night cause I couldn't breath and my sinuses are killing me. I stayed home from work today (but took Sarah to daycare so I can get some rest!). Sarah was a little stuffy this morning, thanks to her mommy getting sick. So Christy, both times DD has been sick, it's been because I got sick first, then she got it - not even because of daycare!
there are more dishes in the sink than we've uses (can they spontaneously reproduce, or do dirty dishes have sex at night and deliver new baby dishes within 12 hours??)
Kim - LMAO, I almost spit out my water on the keyboard because I was laughing at this. In answer to your question, yes it seems I can never keep up with keeping the house clean. We have a cleaning service that comes every other week and seriously after like 2 days, the house is already a disaster. I do try to do my picking up after she has gone to bed though.
Question for cold-weather moms -We are traveling to Philadelphia for Thanksgiving, so I've been getting Sarah the appropiate clothing. I've bought her some pants with footies but need some socks too. I usually just get her socks at Target but they don't seem like they will be warm enough. What kind of socks are you using and where do you buy them?

Adding a few more things now that I got caught up a little more:
Toys - One of Jack's soft toys said to tie in a pillow case and wash so that is how I wash all his soft toys now and it works out great. I thought I had ruined the Einstein crinkle book he loves but once I got the water out of the squeeky toy it is good as new!
Sasha- What is funny is my DH and I have been sick twice from what was going around daycare but Jack has not been sick at all. I am chalking up to still BF Jack. We both had a stomach flu and some sort of pink eye but Jack never got a thing.
House Clean - I am in the same situation as Sasha we have maids come every 2 weeks and it stays clean for one day. I am on the lookout for a big basket but can not find the perfect one for all of Jack's toys in the living room. I am a bit of a clean freak so we try really hard! Also I work from home and do laundry, pick up during the day.

Cold weather I buy my kids sock at the baby gap. They are not"winter socks" but i think they are heavy enough for when we are inside.
Sitting up
She getting better at it. She still can not sit up for a long period of time yet.
QOTD House a mess? No, my house is very neat and always in order. There are many toys around my house from my 2 yr old son but as far as dishes, floors being moppes, vacuuming, bathrooms are alwasy wipped down, laundry that stuff is always done. When my kids take a nap I clean and when they go to bed at night i clean some more. I just figure if I keep up on it it won't get out of control. Though the one room in my house that i do have a hard time keeping up with in the playroom. As soon as i pick up the toys my DS in no longer playing with he runs and takes that toy back out and about 50 other things as well..LOL oh well...kids will be kids.

QOTD House a mess? Neat, yes. Clean, almost. I am a neat freak and I blame my mother for that. We are all full time working moms so it's a struggle. I try and get to things straightend as soon as Sam is down for bed which is around 8:00 these days. I tidy up for awhile and DH does all the dishes and helps out with bottle duty. We both can't stand dishes in the sink so we're a little OCD about that. I massively clean and scrub the house on Sat mornings while DH and I take turns looking after the baby. He is rolling all over the place and off his mats that I really need to vaccum more. I think the last time I vaccumed was Sept - GROSS!
What is driving me up the wall is the lack of decoration. We moved when DS was 6 weeks and I have all these photos on my laptop and empty photo frames sitting around the house. I still have some stuff to hang in the nursery that's sitting on the floor. My house looks like a mish mash of things.
Socks My favorite are the Baby Gap because the ankle part is long. I am not a big fan of shoes b/c they are not exactly walking. But I use a pair of Robeez I got from my baby shower. They rock and they stay on his feet and keep them warm.

Hi everyone!
I can't keep up with you ladies! Darn work getting in my way...
Solids
Jessica started solids yesterday. I was going to wait until 6 months but with her sleeping issues as of late and her showing all the signs of readiness - I decided to go for it. She seemed to like it - was a bit confused at first - but got the hang of it. It was a messy proposition! She eventually used her fingers to shove the food in!
My question is this: Do if feed her cereal once a day or twice a day?
Then in week I start oatmeal - right? Then Barley? I'm a bit confused myself.
Cynder
I read your post a couple of days ago about going 4 days a week with work - just wanted to tell you that I did go to a 4 day/wk schedule and I LOVE it! I'm off on Thursdays and I so appreciate that day home with DD. It makes the work week more palatable for me. I hope it works out for you!
QOTD
We have a cleaning lady come in every Thursday - our goal is to keep the house nice through the weekend. By Monday it's a mess again. Our big issue is that my DH works out of the house right now and he has an employee. They make the bulk of the mess each week! DD I can handle - but DH and co eat 2 meals a day in my house and don't exactly clean up after themselves. DH has gotten better though since DD was born. I love Thursdays! Day off with my DD and my cleaning lady comes! It's my happy day!
Teething
I think DD is starting. She's been a real crank yanker latelty and she's not usually like that - everything in the mouth - drooling like crazy - and just uncomfortable. She likes her teething rings a lot! I expect to see a tooth poppong through in the next 2 weeks max.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

sitting up:I think I've mentioned this before, he's sitting up all by himself. I was surprised, I 'll have to take a pic. and post :) It's nice, though, he loves to sit and play with his toys. Now, don't get me wrong, sometimes he'll remember the fan is above him and he'll wanna stare at it and he'll topple over, but for the most part, he does great.
Carissa:Glad to hear it's not a huge concern for you:) .
QOTD: Kim, we're both SAHM's and I'm so glad you posted that, because I've been wondering if I were the only one who could NOT keep up. The dishes seem to be done, dh does those after dinner, but the laundry...oh my! That's a whole other story. I truly can't keep up. I totally no where you're coming from!

sitting up -- almost there -- hazel can sit up by herself for a little while but eventually topples over --
QOTD -- house is pretty clean for the most part.. laundry gets done once a week usually sunday nights. cleaning -- we do a little after hazel goes to bed or on the weekends DH does some while i'm out and about with her. the house is not spotless by any means.. but its not a mess either ;)
teeth -- no teeth here yet.. we have all the signs just no teeth!

Jessiemama As far as cereal...when I started out I only gave one meal a day. Once she got the hang of that I started with fruits/veggies. Now I give her 2 meals a day. Eventually i will work at giving her three meals. As far as what kind, I started with rice...and after 2 weeks I gave her oatmeal. She has been on oatmeal for a while...she really loves it. I also bought mixed cereal but I think I will wait to give that to her until I have worked through the oatmeal I already have. This is just what I am doing...I am not sure there is a right or wrong way...other than waiting several days to check for allergies.

QOTD: My apt wasn't clean even when I didn't have a baby! No, that's not exactly true. :) I'm not a clean freak, but I am fastidious about certain things: I always do the dishes after I eat, always put the dirty clothes in the laundry bag, always do the laundry, wipe counters, etc. And things are fairly neat, too. But I do have piles of paper next to my computer, a cluttered coffee table, dust balls in corners and soot on my windowsills (in NYC, you can't avoid the soot.) We have a cleaning lady come once a month or so, and once Asher starts crawling, I'll probably be a lot more vigilant about the dust balls.
Sitting up: Almost. He did it for about two whole minutes unsupported this morning. Then he hit his face on the rug and cried.

I'm so far behind its not even funny ...
It's so funny the clean house question came up. My mom is off for veterans day and since I ended up taking Tuesday off cause Nic caught a cold and was cranky, mom said she'd watch him on Friday instead. So, I played hooky anyway and spent all day cleaning. I dropped him off at 7, and besides 2 pumping sessions I haven't stopped once.. and I STILL only got half what I wanted to get done done. BUT, the house - or the main parts of it that we live in, are clean. And, the laundry is ALMOST all clean (folded is another story, but thats the easiest thing to do while Nic is home/awake...) Ahhhh.... (of course, this will probably only last for a day or two...but it sure is nice for now).
Sitting Up ~ He's trying really hard. He can sit up for a good 5-10 minutes without falling over if you sit him up, but he hasn't figured out how to get there by himself. He won't play for long on his back anymore...you have to sit him up and then he'll play for a few...
Solids ~ We haven't started yet. He will be 6 months next Friday, so we'll probably start him Saturday morning. We're gonna skip cereal and start with sweet potatoes :) I plan on making all of his food myself...but can't give any tips, cause I don't have any yet.
teeth ~ We're still waiting... the ped said his gums were swollen and she could tell he was teething 3 weeks ago...but, still no teeth.
Alicia ~ I'm so sorry... you and your family are in my prayers..
Carissa :) Glad to hear its no big deal... hopefully it stays that way!
Socks/cold weather ~ I had the same concern about socks, so we bought nic some shoes... they're a total pita. But, they do keep his feet warm.
Sorry if I missed anyone...
:)
Have a great weekend!!!!

X-Post from my Journal:
James 6-month Well Child Visit was today. Here are his stats:
Weight: 17 lbs 5 ounces (47 percentile)
Height: 26 inches (35 percentile)
Head: 45.5 cm (91 percentile)
OK, so my son has a big head! We knew it was big, but I guess I didn't realize it was THAT big. We saw the Nurse Practitioner today and she wasn't the least bit worried about it. And he's catching up weight-wise. I think 47% for a baby that came a month and a half early is just fine! He wasn't even on the chart at his first visit at 3 days old....
Teething continues....it's awful.... He was up every 2 hours last night....it wasn't a great night. And when he woke at 4:30 the Ibuprofen and worn off and he was not a happy camper. Jon took a turn, it took him 30 minutes to get him settled down to go back to bed.
Hopefully tonight will be better. The NP said it was time to get him up to 2 meals a day of cereal/veggie/fruit....so tonight he had a good 4-5 tbsp of rice cereal, and a container of squash. I gotta give the little man credit - he ate all the squash! Don't know if I could have!
QOTD: House is dirty. House is small and cluttered with everything-baby. Basement is getting finished, hopefully by Thanksgiving.....should help de-clutter the house and give us a fighting chance of keeping up. We'll see. When DH is gainfully employed again, we are SO going to hire a housecleaner.... I can't wait!

Look at her getting sick now as an experience to build her immune system so when she gets older it will be very strong and she'll hardly get sick.
Ok, I know, that's a hard one to swallow but it's true.
Doesn't Pampers make a toy sterilizer? Might want to look into that.
QOTD: Nope, and I don't worry too much about it. I'd rather hang with my girl than clean. She'll only be this age for such a short time, who cares what my house looks like. Dishes get done, laundry gets one, trash gets taken out, and that all gets done after Aidan is in bed. Of course, I wasn't much of a house cleaner before she was born either! We're not slobs, just more interested in interacting with Aidan.
Along the same lines, I'm quitting my church's MOMS club. Oddly enough it seemed very anti-kid. All the get togethers were sans child, we talked about ourselves not our kids...I don't know, maybe I approached the group with different (and incorrect) preconceived notions. At this point, I so, SO, SO want to spend as much time as I can with Aidan. Her newborn/first couple of months went by so quickly, it's all a blur. This breaks my heart. I miss her littleness. SO. Much. I may have to go back to work this January and this breaks my heart. So, I need, crave, have to have as much time to spend with my baby as possible and this club just ain't it. Our library offers a program called Book Babies. Moms and their little ones (18 months and under) all get together on Thursdays, sing songs that involve the moms and the babies and then play games. Aidan loved it and I loved it. So, that's what we're doing now.
Does anyone else feel like the first 6 months went ENTIRELY too quickly? If the first 6 months went that fast, imagine how the 2nd 6 months will go??? We're going to be celebrating first birthdays soon. Uggg...I want to slow down time and just enjoy her the way she is. She's sitting up, she's expressing emotions, she's developing such a fun little personality. I need to cherish this time.
Thanks for letting me deposit that little treatise here. I appreciate it.

I hada HOLY CRAP moment this morning that in just a couple weeks Thomas will be 6 months, eating solids, then Christmas will be right around the corner. It feels like just yesterday it was a blaringly sunny June afternoon and I was driving home from the hospital in the back seat with him. CRAZY.
I wish the first month wasn't as crazy as it was - I feel like I lost a lot of the little joyful moments since we had a dozen guests, BF issues and a death in the family.
I feel like the summer blew out too quickly.
i can't believe how subtly each milestone came: smiling, laughing, rolling, thumb sucking, playing with toys. Each one crept up on us and just became another part of him. They weren't like BAM - new activity that stops the presses!
i find 8/9 months to be a huge shift from baby to kid - I've watched it in my friends' and family's kids. So winter is going to be pretty emotional for me! lol
Crazy, isn't it?

Does anyone else feel like the first 6 months went ENTIRELY too quickly?YES YES YES I still can't believe Addie is 5 months old.....it seems like she should still be my tiny newborn! :(
QOTDI do my best to keep the house clean, or at least clutter free. We don't have a lot of "stuff" and our house is pretty open so that helps a lot! I usually vaccuum/dust/clean bathrooms etc when Addie is asleep, but then I never get to vaccuum her room and the guest room (right next door to her room). So yesterday I put her in the baby bjorn and we vaccuumed together! ;)
SolidsHaven't tried them yet. tgrI want to make my own too. I read last night in What to Expect the First Year to steam veggies and then puree. I know one of my friends did it in the blender, but a food processor would be better. I know there is a thread on making your own baby food. I'll try to find it and bump it up for us!
socksI feel like I'm always putting her socks back on! Some of my favs that actually stay on are by first moments....not sure where they are from though. I like babygap because they are thick, but they fall off too!
sitting upAddie will tripod for a few seconds every once in a while and she loves to sit up while I hold her hands. Not doing it independently yet though.
diaper rashAddie got a diaper rash this week. She hasn't had one since we switched to cloth at 3.5 months. At first I thought it was from teething, but now I think it might have been from the sonic root beer float I had. She had bad gas all day after that .... gotta remember not to do that again!
carissaI'm glad things aren't too serious!
ChristmasI know we've talked a bit about Christmas, but have we discussed what we are actually getting DC? We're not going to do much this year. I want to get her Puppytunes by Lamaze. We were at Babies R Us looking for a gift for my neice and when I found Puppytunes Addie loved it! Each leg plays a different note when you squeeze it.

I think we're getting the one with the reindeer on it. Besides those 2 things and a carseat it will probably be small stuff that we get her.

Socks: I swear by the Old Navy cuffed socks.
Tell me about time going quickly! My "little" boy is 2! I remember when HE was brought home from the hospital. Sometimes I feel like I've really missed out on documenting how my little guys have grown... but then sometimes I think that it's just a lack of sleep making me feel guilty.
Happy weekend all

Housecleaning~I can get quite a few things done during the day, but spending time with Shylah comes first. When I am cleaning, I either wait to do it while she's napping or I try to make a game of it. (She loves "getting the vacuum" while she's in the walker!)
tgray~I don't blame you for quitting the mom's group. The library thing sounds really cool! Does anyone else feel like the first 6 months went ENTIRELY too quickly? Yes! I mean she's only going to be 5 months next Friday, but still it's gone sooooo fast!
Nat~Thanks! I read about another mom just dumping a can of carrots in the processor, but adult food has more "junk" in it than the baby food. I like though that it's cheaper (she said 12 servings for 50 cents  )!
Christmas~Not sure what we are getting her. It seems to come by so fast around here with my bday being in November and all!
Okay, that's about it. I may go upstairs for a home spa and leave the baby with DH for the morning. It's my bday! I deserve it! ;)

Natalie- I love that stocking you posted. My grandmother usually makes everyone in our family a stocking (new husbands, etc) so I'm guessing she'll make one for DD, but I guess I need to investigate that for sure. We have Pupsqueak and love him.
Christmas gifts- We're also going light on the gifts. DD needs a high chair and will need a larger carseat before too long. We're hoping to get by with one Britax seat for a month or so and then get a second. She'll also get some spoons and bowls for cereal. Family has started to ask for recommendations- I'm asking for baby books (she has so few) and maybe this Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium. The activity gym may be too much of a duplicate, but the tunnel seems so neat.

Carissa ~ I'll send you a PM regarding the PSP. We have PSP8. Cute pics. Glad to hear that your tumor isn't too serious.
ahavnes ~ Thanks for your comments regarding my thyroid problem. Congrats on the move to Texas and that you'll be a SAHM. Sorry to hear about your DH's grandmother. {{{HUGS}}} Losing a loved one is never easy (we went through losing DH's dad when I was 32/33 wks pregnant. Talk about unexpected death, now that was one. We are still dealing with the aftermath and grief with that one.)
rancherswife ~ I hope your transition to the crib is as easy as ours was.
Crib Transition ~ DD has been in her crib for a couple of weeks now at night. We get her to sleep and then move her. She takes a bottle before going to sleep and then doesn't wake up until the next morning. I miss having her beside us in the PNP but I like the fact that she is now in her crib in her room.
BTB ~ Sorry about the nanny situation. How scary that must have been!
kim ~ Tigger, our cat, has come up to DD and wanted her to pet him. He rubs up against her. We had no idea how he would react to having her around but so far he has been really good. It's actually surprised us a little by his actions. We also have an outdoor cat (a stray that DH brought home earlier this year) that does the same thing as Tigger when we are sitting outside (wants DD to pet her, rubs up against her).
QOTD: What has surprised you about your baby so far? How alert she was as a newborn. It seemed that was what everyone was commenting on when they came in to see her while we were still in the hospital. She hardly ever cries (unless she needs/wants something). We couldn't have asked for an easier baby. And just how much she looks like me when I was a baby.
Aunt Liv ~ All that hair! DD doesn't have even a quarter of that much. And if it comes in as light as mine did (which it appears the new hair is) it will look like she is bald in her one year old pictures.
tgr ~ Do we have similar babies or what? DD is pretty laid back but sometimes she can scream at the top of her lungs.
tgray99 ~ Your comment about the rice cereal tasting like wallpaper paste made me laugh. I tasted it a while back and that's kind of what I thought it tasted like.
temperament ~ DD is very laid back for the most part. She only cries if she wants to be picked up (which isn't very often), is hungry, needs to be changed, or got scared. Otherwise is happy talking up a storm/making noises. She loves her swing and will watch Disney animated movies, Baby Genesis, and/or Pooh movies on DVDs. She also loves tummy time.
Holiday Pictures ~ We are having ours taken today. I wanted them to be sure and be back in plenty of time so we weren't rushed in getting the pictures out in our Christmas cards.
QOTD: House a Mess? Yes. It seems that I can never have enough time to get it looking good. Of course part of my trouble is that with my thyroid problem having enough energy to get up and clean for very long isn't something that I have or can do. Hopefully with the med that I'm on now things will improve (but I could develop low thyroid levels as a result in time) soon. We are trying to work on one room at a time and get it looking nice and then move on to the next one. DH took a couple of days off from work to get some much needed projects done. So hopefully that will help in that department.
4 month appointment ~ We went this week for DD's 4 month check up and shots. She is now 14.5 lbs and 25 inches long. Her doctor was amazed at how much longer she had gotten in 2 months. She was 23 inches at her last check up. Guess she gets her length from her daddy and my grandfather (both over 6 feet). So before too much longer we are going to be needing to get a new carseat. I was hoping that this one would last us until around Christmas. Not sure if that's going to be the case or not now. We were told that we could start her on rice cereal if we wanted. She did have a fever (not over 100.5) for a couple of days after getting the shots. And she have two knots under two of the injection sites. One was larger than the other. I called the nurse and she said that was common and that it could last up to a month.

Happy Birthday Naamah!
Temperament:Not an easy one here. I'd say my DS is a type A, like his mommy. Poor guy. He's quite demanding and very serious. He does do a large amount of smiling and laughing, too, but I would rate him high needs!
messy house: Yup.. like a pp said...dishes are done, laundry is done and that's about it. i think once a month, DH and I set aside a few hours to do a more thourough cleaning.

Christmas
I just added this to DS's Christmas List:
Fisher Price Barnyard Carousel $15
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002YDPYC.01.PT03._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
My friend had it at her place when we had a little play date, and 3 of the kids aged 5-6 months LOVED it. It makes music and spins when you hit the thing on the top, when they press each animal it makes the appropriate sound. Bright and cute! Thought I'd tell you all about it...perfect for sitters and almost-sitters alike. :)

rice cereal
Ok we tried it and did the 1tablesp to the 4 tablesp formual and it was like water-is that right??? Is was really really watery and it was a ton-I mean he would never eat all that--Aiden was not impressed

I never did it that way. I tried and saw that it was like water so I remade it so it was thicker. Rarely do I measure it now. I just add water (or formula) until it's the right consistency.

I never measure the cereal out either.. I just add until i get the right consistency also. I don't think it should be too watery where it falls off the spoon. Try making it a little thinker.

So the good news - Sarah is cutting her two lower teeth! The bad news - she is miserable. Trying to get her to sleep the past few nights has been a terrible experience. Normally she can go down awake, maybe fuss for a minute and will then go to sleep. Now she is screaming and crying at the top of her lungs as soon as we put her down. Although I don't really believe in CIO, last night we let her cry for about 5 minutes in hopes of her falling asleep. No luck, it just made her more hysterical. The only way she will go to sleep now is if we rock her to sleep first. Please tell me I am not starting some terrible habit and that she will go back to her former sleeping habits!
Rice Cereal - You are supposed to make it watery in the beginning, and gradually make it thicker. However, Sarah ate it much better once I started thickening it. Now, we do oatmeal instead because Sarah was never really a fan of the rice cereal. I now do about 1oz formula mixed with about 2 Tbs of oatmeal. I dont' have to measure the 1oz formula anymore, I just do it until it's the right consistency, but I know it's about an ounce.
Kim - What an adorable toy, thanks for posting it!

rice cereal: We do 4 or 5TBS of rice and about 2ounces formula. Like the others, we just pour until it's the right consistency. At this point, it's pretty thick he eats it much faster with less mess.
We tried carrots yesterday and collin loved them! It was so funny...he was practically grabbing the spoon and shoving it in his mouth.
sitting up: DS is sitting by himself. He still has no desire to roll over, but will sit for a good 10-15 minutes and play. I love it!:D

Hi ladies! We're back from Orange County, thank you for the kind words everyone. We arrived late on Wednesday night and Scott's grandma passed away on Friday morning, so I am really glad we went right away. Scott got to spend some time with her and was able to introduce her to Abbey (although they were both sleeping!) The good news is that Abbey did well on the plane. It was a good dress rehearsal for our 6 hour trip to Miami on Friday. Eeek!
I am so far behind, but let me try...
tgray- I pm'd you about meeting up in SF. :)
Messy House- Not as bad now that we have a cleaning lady come every other week. She rocks. I could clean all day and it still wouldn't look as nice as when she comes. ;)
Cereal- We finally started this on Friday! Abbey isn't too into it, but she's only had it a few times. She seems to like it a bit thicker though. She also got way more interested in it once she saw me taste it. Little stinker!
usawife- So sorry about your DH's mom.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!!
Saturday was my birthday, and we pretty much lounged around the house most of the day. I did a home spa in the morning, which was so nice because I got a good 1-1.5 hrs to myself! DH tried to keep up with DD that day, so I could really take the day off. I still had her a good chunk of the time though. Then a friend of ours came over to help install a bathroom heater upstairs. After that, we got ready to go out and dropped DD off at ILs. Then we headed to another friend's house to drop in on her parents 27th wedding anniversary party for about half an hour, after which we went to dinner at this amazing Italian resturant in town. After dinner we went to Walmart (cuz you know, all great married couple dates are at Walmart *rolleyes* LOL!) to pick up some stuff for the baby. DH let me get a new scrapbook to do DD's scrapbook since the last one I had, we could find page protectors for. We also picked up new curtains for the living room.It was after midnight when we picked DD up, but it was worth it! Sunday after church, we went out to eat with MIL, FIL, BIL, GMIL, GFIL, dad, step-mom, step-bro, and step-sis. We had a great time and considering that we had 12 ppl in a place that didn't take reservations, the wait was not bad at all (about 30 min)!! This afternoon, we went to ILs house for cheesecake, pumpkin pie cake, and ice cream. Then, I opened a few gifts (a ton of shirts, a new red slipcover for our couch, some really good lotion from my friend's party, and the Aquarium high chair for Shylah)!! Tonight we got home, put together the high chair, attempted to put the curtains up (we ran into a bit of a snag with the woodwork), watched Christmas with the Kranks, and now I'm sitting here.
Kelsey~I am wanting to get DD the same playmat/tunnel that you posted!
Meri~True Gemini's aren't they? LOL!
Kim~Cute toy!
Ally~Like everyone else has said, I found the "recommended" ratio too watery. Just measure it out until it's the consistency you want!
Sasha~I tend to make exceptions to our rules when DD is not feeling well. To ease with teething pain, DH's cousin bought her son teething tablets. She said it calmed him down in 5 minutes or less. Not sure of the brand or anything, but you might look into them.
jmvan~Yeah for Colin sitting up!! We are trying carrots today or tomorrow. I really hope DD likes them. (We attempted to try squash on Saturday. DD was too tired, so I decided to put it off until later, but in the time it took me to make a bottle, the dog had eaten it! )
ahavnes~I've heard of more and more people getting cleaning ladies to come in. A couple of my friends do clean houses for a living. Maybe I should see how much they charge.
Oh, forgot to add that the photographer that did my dad's wedding is awesome. Step-mom picked up a price list for me, and I am in shock at the pkg prices!
Pkg A - $20
1 - 8x10
2 - 5x7
3 - 4x5
8 - wallets
Pkg B - $35
2 - 8x10
4 - 5x7
5 - 4x5
24 - wallets
Ala Carte
11x14 - $12
8x10 - $6
5x7 - $3.50
4x5 or 4x6 - $2.50
8 wallets - $6
I so have to call and get an appt!
Well, better get!

QOTD Our house gets messy at times. I am lucky girl though and have a wonderful husband that does laundry and dishes for me. I have to admit he has taken care of most of the housework since Grace came.
Solids We started solids last night, it went pretty well. She didn't seem to be a big fan of rice cereal though.
Naamah Happy Birthday!
Christmas toys I have a few ideas. I'll have to gether some pics.
Thanks for the well wishes. I am thankful that it's not to concerning now I hope it stays that way. Dr did say it could be causing a lot of the symptoms because I am breastfeeding I thought that was interesting.

Oh my, sick for a weekend and have a ton to catch up on...chatty bunch this weekend, huh?:p
Yeah, so I woke up Friday morning w/ a sore throat, no bigee, chalked it up to the change in weather, whatever....as the day progressed, I started feeling like crap, chills, achey..the whole nine yards, woke up in the middle of the night on Friday night, with a temp...spent 3 hours at Urgent Care, Saturday morning...tonsilitis (sp?) and an ear infection...I haven't been sick like this in YEARS! I am feeling much better today though. Dr. prescribed Keflex, said it was safe to take while nursing, my first concern, of course! I often thought of all of you ladies on here who live a long way from your families.I don't know what I would've done w/ out my mom this weekend. Dh was shipping cattle ALL day on Saturday, my mom stayed w/ us Saturday night, cooked, did laundry, dh pretty much took care of Landon once he got home, but seriously, she was a life saver, she would wake me to nurse him and that was it. I can't imagine being a good distance from my family.
And...the big news........Landon cut his first tooth yesterday!!!! The lower left. (snif, snif). Yes, I cried. I can NOT believe how quickly our babies are growing. I was not prepared for how fast it would happen. It's so bitter-sweet. I tell brett daily, "didn't we just have him????" I think the first two months were a complete blur, w/ dh having his seizures, all the testing etc...when Landon was only 3 weeks old, that pretty much made the summer fly by without us even noticing. It makes me sooo, sooo sad. And we'll never get that back ( I mean, we will with #2, but not with Landon):( Where does the time go???
ahanvnes:Sorry about your dh's g-ma, but I'm glad you were able to make it in time for him to get to spend time w/ her. Glad Abbey did welll on the flight. Gives you some confidence for Friday!;)
tgr:Happy belated b-day!
Nammah:Happy Birthday!

Teething - we are in the midst of this, too. No evidence of a tooth yet, though. However, I thank the Good Lord for IBUPROFEN!!!! Now that James is 6 months (sniff sniff), the Dr. said it is OK to use. It lasts 8 hours in his system, whereas the Tylenol would wear off after 3. He's so much happier!
So how do we get THE MEMO revoked???? The memo seemed to have been miraculously missing for a few days....but now he seems to have found it again. I've turned the nursery upside down, but I can't seem to find it so I can get rid of it ;) He must have committed it to memory! He got up at 11 PM, 2 AM, 2:45 AM, 5 AM and then 7 AM last night. I feel like a zombie. I keep thinking it's teething related, or the 6-month growth spurt....but it's been going on for over a month now. Anyone else still living life according to THE MEMO?
Solids. He LOVES them. Gets all excited. I have given him a little bread, and he even got a little of his 6-month birthday cake (not much bigger than a crumb). I think he just loves having something to do with his mouth! He's had rice cereal, oatmeal (baby-style), sweet potatoes, applesauce, carrots, sweet peas, and squash. He makes the worst face when he's eating applesauce, for whatever reason. The Ped. said to go ahead and make 2 meals a day part of his routine.... I feel like I'm repeating myself...maybe I typed this a page or so back.... That's what getting up 4 times at night will do for you!
We went to Walmart this weekend and shopped for about an hour. He spent the entire hour doing his best impersonation of a pteradactyl. It was hilarious...everyone was laughing! I peed my pants a few times! (Which isn't hard to do anymore....).
Oh, and DH hit a deer this weekend. $4400 in damage.... But that's why we have insurance. Sounds like we'll only have to pay $100.
Yeah, and I have a head cold. Lovely. Gotta get back to work!

rancherswife sorry you were not feeling well. You are very lucky to have family near by to help. Hope you continue to feel better.
ahvanes I am sorry to hear about your loss.
time flying we had a 3 month over yesterday and all DH and I could do was think about Sam at that age and all the things he used to do. It was only 3 months ago but at times it feels like a life time. I so wish I could have that time back. I love seeing him grow but at the same time want to keep him as a baby.
The annoying part was that this couple talking about how "our baby does this and that" and after awhile it got a little old. DS gabbed at the baby so maybe he passed the memo on. That's mean, I don't wish the memo on anyone.
Memo Anyone else still living life according to THE MEMO? YES!!!! Like clockwork he is getting up at 4:00, 4:30. On Saturday he got up at 2:30. I had a bad case of a stomach bug and poor DH took care of me while looking after DS. DH and I talked about it today and we're going to throw in the towel and just accept the fact that he is going to be an early riser. We've tried to put him back to sleep after a feed and change but he is way too wired. I am hoping introduction of more solids will help but it looks like Wendstress that solids don't have much of effect.
Glad to see though that I am not the only one who is the mother of a pteradactyl.

So we tried out her high chair this morning with carrots. She loved the carrots (cleared 1/3 of the jar in like 5 minutes!), and the chair is a life saver! Now I can have her in the kitchen with me while I cook, clean, etc without having to move something in there! :D

The Memo
It must be found and destroyed. We were up 5 times last night. My sweet baby girl slept through the night at 4 weeks old - and proceeded to sleep like a champ until just a few weeks ago - What happened? She even transitioned to her crib at 6 weeks old and did great there. She's been showing signs of teeting for a long time but no teeth - she's been doing the drooling, hand chewing, and most recently, sticking everything in her mouth - but no teeth or white buds to speak of! Each time she wakes in the night she wants her pacifier back in her mouth. She used to loose it after being put down and was fine - now if she wakes, she screams until we give it back to her. Last night she even sucked down a bottle at 2:00am which she rarely does.
DH gets up with her in the morning (he works from home) because I leave very early - today DH got up with her at 7:15am and brought her into our bed where she fell back to sleep - but only if he was cuddeling her - every time he moved his arm away from her she woke. This is not typical behavior for her. And this waking up a million times had to start as I went back to work. grrrr!
I can't figure this out. We even started solids in hopes that she would go down feeling full - but it didn't work. She does love solids though.
I'm going to crawl under my desk and take a nap...

The memo: Yep. Some nights are better than others, though. Last week, he had four straight days when he STTN, but then it was back with a vengeance. Up five or six times for a couple of nights. Then last night and the night before he was only up twice. The weirdest part is that he doesn't always go back to sleep after I feed him. If he seems like he's in pain, we give him some Motrin.
Peeing: I'm glad someone finally mentioned this. :) I think it's finally getting better, but I was miserable over this.

The memo SUCKS.
Whoever is sending it around must get the smack-down. I am a bit delirious. If that's even how it's spelled.
Biiiiig Looooong Naps
So, he's now taking these super-long naps during the day (like 2-3 hours long twice a day, plus a 1-hour nap in between!) and deciding to get up 5x a night to play. Singing at pteradactyl-volume at 3am is not my idea of a good time.
Ahhhh...Happy Thanksgiving
So we drove up to MA for Thanksgiving with my family Saturday morning. Deleriously tired and infortunately void of coffee I did the 4 hour drive, only stopping to BF Thomas at the grocery store near my parents' since I needed to pick up a couple things anyway. Thomas actually took a 2 1/2 hour nap during the drive  which made mama quite happy.
Not so good on the way home! DH insisted we drive home that night, and DS cried the first 1 1/2 hours, then pooped when we were nowhere near any rest stops. We eventually got to a McDonald's rest stop where I had to clean him up, change his pjs, and BF him in the car. Great idea, Tom. I had to sit in back the rest of the drive and he fell asleep, but I couldn't since I was SO uncomfortable back there. All I wanted to do was recline and stretch my legs...
At least it was nice to see everyone!
Oh, and for those of you BFing moms depressed over not being able to drink Starbuck's Gingerbread Lattes....CoffeeMate makes a Gingerbread one now which I bought and it's pretty good! Might even help me get through the winter. ;)
Since we're talking about bottom troubles...

Kim: Crying in the car, huh? We drove 2 hours upstate to see DH's sister yesterday, and had our share of it, too (though we've had that since DS was a newborn.) It was also the first time I tried nursing him while we were both buckled in, per a friend's suggestion. It was weird and very uncomfortable, but it did quiet him down.

I was trying to mathematically figure out how to do that Saturday, but couldn't quite calculate anything possible! lol! I may need a lesson - though he has always been so great in the car, I think it was just the loooooong busy day and spending 8 hours of it in a carseat that finally got to him.

The Memo - YAAAAAWWWN. We seem to forget about the memo about one day a week, otherwise, she's following it to a tee. I want to shred that memo and then burn it to a crisp :). Last night she went down at 7, up at 8:30, up at 9:30, UP up (as in had to bring her downstairs) at 10, back to bed from 11-4 (co-sleeping), slept in the arms reach from 4-5:30. Up for the day at 6. Just lovely. Really.
Somehow I lucked out in the bladder/hemmy department. No problems with either.
---
Good news in our neck of the woods! We just came from our consult with the GI department at Children's. The doctor basically looked Avery over and said that he doesn't see any reason to order more tests/procedures (the GI tests are really scary!!). She's gained 3 pounds in the last month, so he thinks we're on the right track now. It's a total relief!! Hopefully, Avery's ped will be on board with that and pleased with her progress when we see her on Thursday.

Singing at pteradactyl-volume at 3am is not my idea of a good time.
Yep, my guy was singin' away last night at mid-night. Swaddled him, un-swaddled him, nursed him, layed him down, rocked him and finally got him back down at 1 am! NO FUN!
tgr:Sorry about that, i just did a quick run down as i was posting, and when i saw that name i thought, wtf? who is that, ah hell, i'll tell em' happy b-day anyway;) .
bladder:it's always been a peanut, but i could at least hold in my pee, but now, FORGET IT! If I laugh, it's commin', if i sneeze, watch out, you get the pic. I have my annual w/ my OB on Thursday I was gonna talk to him about it, but now that were all comin' out about it, maybe i won't, sounds pretty common in this neck of the woods;) .
hemmy:never got em. sorry for those who have em.:o
long naps:Yesterday was the first day Landon took two really long naps, and there he was at mid-night "singing", so he's napping now, we'll see how long it is, his A.M. nap wasn't too long, actually it could've been longer.

Hmmm... I don't think we've ever gotten the memo, or maybe he brought it home from the hospital with him... but, we're still up every 2-3 hours to eat at night. The funny thing is, he can go 4+ hours during the day between feeds... oh well. When I just can't take him getting up anymore, I bring him into bed with me and we cuddle, and he's usually good for a 3 hour stretch...
I'm still hating work... I dont understand how you can work full time and still have a life. Working girls... any ideas? (I need to ask my boss about going part time, but there was a big blow up over the weekend and my boss is stressing it and I don't want to add to his plate right now... will wait til tomorrow or wed to bring it up)
tgr ~ Happy super belated birthday!
Diedra ~ Vongrats on Avery's weightgain. Hopefully the ped will be happy too!
Yes... 6 mos has totally flown. It seems like we just brought Nic home yesterday, but at the same time, I can't really remember life without him. Although, I played hooky from work on Friday cause Mom watched Nic for the day.. MAN, did I get cleaning done. It was wonderful! :)
Christmas list: We're gonna buy nic a wagon (radio flyer has one that has two seats in it, but it folds down to be the traditional wagon at target ...i think we're gonna get that one), some blocks, and some balls for his stocking. My mom got him a wooden rocking horse shaped like a motorcycle (dh is into them) and mil got him a shape sorter. If people ask what he could use, I plan to tell them a stacker, one of those things that you hold onto and walk with, and hmm... there was something else I wanted for him.. but I can't remember what now... oh well. :)

Ahavnes: Got your PM, did you get mine? I'm so sorry for your loss. Ryan's grandfather died 4 months before Aidan was born and we so wish she could've met him. I'm glad Abbey got to meet her g-g-ma.
Memo: It's gone, knock on wood.
Bladder: I thought I had a bladder infection so I took AZO Standard as that usually clears it up. It hasn't. I still pee really frequently and it kinda burns. Who knows what the heck is up.
Nope, no hemmys here, Kim, sorry!
Singing: Aidan sings when she wakes up in the morning. I swear it's like having an alarm clock set to the All-Baby Network. I usually turn the monitor down (sort of like a snooze button). I figure that she's happy so I can sleep until she gets loud enough for me to hear her without the monitor. She's really taking to squealing and screeching like a little monkey. She did it at dinner tonight with Ryan's grandmother. Luckily the restaurant was pretty noisy so not many people noticed.
Christmas List: We want a Fisher Price Gymtastics Wall and Tunnel for her to crawl through and pull up on. We're also asking for more Baby Einstein DVDs and a Cookie Monster from Build A Bear. Money is ok too since my mom set up a 529 for her college fund.

I'll have to catch up on all the posts, but wanted to post this...
My little girl is 6 months old today. :( It's going WAY too fast. We celebrated by taking her to the pediatrician for her 6 month visit. Her stats are now:
weight: 14lbs4oz (25th percentile)
height: 26.5" (75th percentile)
head circumference: 17" (75th percentile)
The ped was very happy with her. She is following her growth curves right along, so no worries. The poor thing got FOUR shots, including the flu shot. She cried bloody murder, but did calm down a lot quicker, thank goodness. I brought DH with me to the appointment b/c the last time she got her shots, I cried right along with her, and I needed someone to be strong. I hate the shots, but I know they're for the best. Anyway, she has to get the 2nd part of her flu shot at her 9 month appointment.
So, I finally brought out the high chair and set it up today. She looked so cute in it, and really likes that she can see everything from there.
The ped did tell me that I need to up her solids during the day. I started her on solids at 4.5 months, and I'm still only giving her about 3-4 tablespoons total per day. I think Maia is definitely ready b/c she's been on a bottle strike the past few days - she doesn't seem interested in the bottle at all, and the ped said this is a sign that she may be getting bored with it, and needs some new flavors.
Ok, babbling. Gotta go catch up on everyone's posts...

diedra1027 - That is GREAT news!! I'm glad that Avery won't have to have any more GI testing done, and that she's gained THREE pounds in a month!! That's awesome!

Memo OH thank god my DD did not get that Memo..Oh thanks god..LOL
Same here!
bladder and hemmys - No such problems here, thank goodness.
singing - DD does this as well. She hangs out in her crib and sings to her animals that she has in there. She's also started squeeking...a LOT...we hear her on the monitor squeaking away and singing, babbling. It's really funny, and she cracks herself up, too.
Christmas list - I haven't even thought about Christmas. She has so much!!
I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week already!

diedra-congrats!!
memo sigh some days are better then others. Since Aiden is still in the PNP right next to us (yes I know he is over 15lbs time to get out of there!!) it is easy for me to roll over and give him his paci back or rub his back. I tired last night to wait till he was really making a fuss. We are moving the crib into the bedroom (it is in the living room right now-we have a 1 bedroom) after Thankgiving and I hope maybe he will sleep a little better.
PPD anyone dealing with this? I don't think I have full PPD but I have been all over the place emotionally lately. I am not sure if it is hormones or just stress
working and a life Ah forget it. I have no life. That is a big reason I think for my anxiety and depression-it is really really hard. And eveyone says that leaving your child gets easier-well it isn't

BAM! BAM! That's me knocking on some wood. Slept until 6:00. Hopefully, it's not a one off. Tried Oatmeal yesterday and today - no go. His face was comical. On a whim I tried a bit of sweet potatoes and he LOVED it. Is it wrong for me to give him veggies and fruits before grains? Going to ask the ped this week but is anyone mixing grains and veggies?
diedra1027 Congrats on the weight gain. That must be such a huge relief.
happyinluv Hang in there. It's not easy, I can say that. We have our good days and our bad days. I can say I have no life. I think I struggle so much because we have no family anywhere near us. I dream about what it would be like to have either my mom or MIL near us. Heaven. Anyway, I think the key is to not sweat the small stuff and take joy in small things. Yesterday I was doing a dance of joy because I got dinner done before 7:00. Big deal in our house.
Is it possible for you to take an afternoon off while Nic is being looked after and you can go shopping or get a manicure? A little R&R time to recharge the batteries. I've done the maincure at 8:00 once DS is in bed on a weeknight as a little reward for myself.
allyray I chalk up my low days to PMS now that AF is back. Have you tried talking to someone. Does your area offer PPD support. It's hard to ask for help but I hope you feel better soon.

Memo Been gone for 7 days but who is counting. Every since Jack cut his tooth he has been a sleeping champ, thank goodness. It had been hit or miss until then.
Solids - Just purchased everything to start Sweet Potatoes on Saturday. I am going to go with Sweet Potatoes, Avacado, and then Banana is the plan so far. We will be traveling for Thanksgiving so the Avacado and Banana doesn't take any preparation so that is the plan.
Christmas - Making a list for MIL of some Leap Pad items, a child size chair, and money for Jack's 529.
Deidra - I know you have struggled - congratulations!! Glad all is well with Avery!
Cynder From I have read sweet potatoes is a great first food. I think the main thing is introduce one new food at a time as to see if there is any allergies. It took Jack awhile to get used to oatmeal but loves it now!

ally: I'm dealing with PPD. It just started a few weeks ago. MY doc said it could come on any time during the first year and stress will definitely help it along. unfortunately for me, i felt like it was beyond my control and have recently started meds. i'm starting to feel like myself again. it was really hard to admit that I wasn't happy. i was embarassed, but getting help was the best thing i could've done for me, DS and DH.

Memo - Some nights she gotten it, others not. The past 3 nights were great, then last night I was up with her at 1:45am and again at 3:30am. It's weird though, because sometimes she isn't fully awake, but is making this "ehhhhhh" sound in her sleep. Her eyes are still shut, but she is making all this noise and turning about in her crib. It's weird...
Christmas - I really want to get her the FP Jumperoo. We'd like some more toys and that crawling tunnel is neat too. Money is good too because we have set up a Florida pre-paid college account for her.
Singing - LOL, Sarah sings herself to sleep. It cracks us and her daycare teachers up. I am wondering what a plane full of people will think about it next week ;).
Diedra - Congrats on Avery's weight gain!
Ally - Is there someone you could talk to? I know I had some PPD when I was still BF'ing. I hope things get better soon.
Cynder - I have also read that it's fine to start with sweet potatoes.

memoAddie was up at midnight then again at 1:15! I felt like she was a newborn again....I didn't enjoy the lack of sleep, but she did take a 2 hr morning nap and I slept then too!
AllyI've heard that PPD is normal from anywhere to a year after birth and with you just going back to work I'm sure that doesn't help. Can you go by your OBGYN or call him/her? Talk to DH or take a day off. I hope you feel better soon!
diedraYeah for Avery's weight gain!
bladder and hemmyNo problems here, thank goodness!
christmasWe are thinking about a jumparoo too....I need to look into that!
sleep issuesWe are having major issues getting Addie to sleep at nap time and bedtime. Sometimes I feel like I spend an hour getting her down and then she sleeps for only 45 minutes! It's so frustrating. I don't want to CIO but nothing else seems to work! Anyone else having this problem??

Sleep
DD slept from 10:30pm until 5:50am - I popped the binkey in and she stayed sown until 6:30am. Not bad. What I did differently is I didn't give her her vitamins last night - I usually give them to her when I change her last diaper of the niught. Duh - vitimins could stimulate! What's wrong with me? Not sure if this is the answer but things were better last night at least.
PDP
I don't think I have full PDP but I am much more emotional lately. It's taking its toll on me and I'm not sure if it's a hormoneal thing or a phase or what.
Solids
Are you all waiting a full week between giving rice cereal and starting the oatmeal then the barley? Just wondering.

Nat; When DS won't go down for his nap and is fussing and crying(i try for 10 minutes), I let him play for anoter 10-15 minutes and try again. It's usually enough to get him sleepier. i was getting so frustrated, but then i realized...i need to follow his lead in this department.
Jodie: I waited 4 days in between different cereals.
Christmas:There are so many things I'd love to get DS, but i don't really know exactly what he'll get yet.

Let's see where to begin...
My DD, Emma, was born May 17, 2005 and weighed in at 8 lbs 3 oz. She was breach, so she was born via c-section. We found this out at my 38 week appointment.
She has been eating solids since she was 4 months old. She LOVES to eat. Here's her eating schedule:
9:30 am - 6 oz formula, approx 1 oz of it, mixed with 3 tbs mixed cereal and 1/2 jar of fruit.
1:30 pm - 6 oz formula, 1 jar of stage 1 fruit
5:30 pm - 6 oz formula, 1 jar of stage 1 vegetable
8:30 pm - 8 oz formula
She has been sleeping through the night since she was about 7 weeks old!
She HATES to be on her tummy and has little interest in rolling over.
She's doing better and better each day with sitting up.
At her 4 month appointment, she weighed in at 14 lbs and 10 oz.
Whenever we're out people comment on how big she is. I think she's just right!
What else.... Oh.. My little monkey gets terribly constipated!! She get's that from me, unfortunately. :(
Most of the time she is just such a happy baby! I'm not looking forward to teething!!
I suffered from moderate PPD after I gave birth. It lasted a few weeks, but as opposed to the line of BS Tom Cruise is selling, medication DID work and I'm doing very well, now.
Emma's 6 month appointment is Monday and I can't wait to see what she weighs!!

And I am also looking for a nice Christmas Stocking for her. I want to get it personalized, but haven't seen anything locally that I've liked. I thought about making one, myself, but I'm really not that crafty! ;)

Thanks eveyone DH is fully aware of what is going on and has been very good about it. Last week was really bad which is when I talked to him-and this week is better I just seem to have my ups and downs. I think I might be having too much coffee so I am going to try and cut it out. My real issue is leaving Aiden and going to work-I just miss him so much-it really blows.
ETA-I was thinking about talking to my OB but I want to wait and see how I am after going to see my family and getting a break. I am also thinking about talking to someone.
Thank you all for your thoughts :)

I am so far behind in this thread, I will never catch up. Happy belated Birthday to everyone that I missed and congratulations to all whose children celebrated their 6 month birthday!
FP Jumparoo -For those that want to get this, BRU has it on sale for $54.99, plus the BRU Holiday Mailer has a 15% off coupon that you can use on just about everything. My in-laws are going to purchase it for Rebecca this week as an early Christmas gift for Rebecca since she will be able to get a lot of use out of it now.
Memo -She did not get it for almost a week, then it appeared out of nowhere last night! I wish I could grab it to shred it up, but, alas, she must be hiding/saving it for another night!;)
Solids -We waited 4 days between each new cereal and fruit and veggie. She still tries something new once a week now and she has been eating solids for a while now. Only recently has she taken a liking to oatmeal.
Pre-paid tuition -anyone else starting an account already? We started one for our DD just now and I don't even want to think about what college prices are going to be when she graduates from highschool! Yikes!! Private elementry school alone is insane right now in my area.
Opthomology appointment -I brought Rebecca to her appointment today and they really want to push surgery, but DH and I said that we want to wait until she is at least a year old. They want to do this surgery and they don't even know if it will be a permenant fix for her eyes or not. They are now thinking it is part muscular (not a lazy eye they said, just her inside muscles are pulling to tight and the outside ones are too loose) and part vision. Ugh, I am just sick if we do end up having to do surgery. We go back again in 4 months when she will be 11 1/2 months old.

Okay, so as soon as I post that DD's taking her longer nap in the afternoon, she goes and switches on me! LOL!
Diedra~Yeah for the great news!
Rancherswife~LOL! That's okay!
Happy1~Thanks!
PPD~I thought for a while that I had a mild form. There was a week or two where I was up and down emotionally.
R&R~I still have a massage GC from my OB I need to cash in! ;)
Jodie~We have tried any other grains yet. I am going to start mixing our rice in with the veggies/fruit until the box is gone. Then I'll look at a second grain.
DD has been such a little piggy today!
8:00am - 8oz bottle
12:00pm - 2/3 jar of carrots & a 4oz bottle
We'll try more carrots tonight with a 4 oz bottle, and she usually eats 4-8oz in the afternoon, plus another 4-8oz before bed! That seems like a lot but now that I add it up, it's about right.
Well, gotta get ready for work.

Pre-paid tuition -anyone else starting an account already?
Yep. College is really important to DH & I so we have a certain investment we are selling next year and are taking all the profits to put in an account for DS. Hopefully 18 years of interest in the high-rate account will do a lot of good for us! Luckily DH is very good at that sort of thing...I am clueless.
Solids
I am such a dork. I am SO EXCITED to start solids in 2 1/2 weeks that I bought his Earth's Best cereals (rice and oatmeal) and Gerber Organics fruit sampler & veggie sampler. Can you tell I was at BRU today?
Winter Coats
If anyone is looking, Macy's is having 50% off every winter coat right now. I just saved SO MUCH on a fab new coat that I really really needed.
Getting Better...
DS is still getting a little better at night. Last night he was up every 2 hours or so but all I did to get him back to sleep was turn on the FP Aquarium. No talking, no patting, no shushing, didn't pick him up even once. Better...
My friend thinks he is gearing up for solid food. He's a little hungrier, a little needier, and don't they go thru a 6-month growth spurt?? She's betting money that in a few weeks once he's eating cereal and hit the 6 month mark he'll go back to STTN again.
I have SUCH sympathy for moms like her whose kids just refuse to STTN. her daughter is 6 1/2 months and she still gets up 3-4x a night no matter what they try. And they've tried it all - Ped just says its her temperment. Yikes.
Still Big Nappin'
He took another 2 hour nap this morning from 9-11am. Crazy! Not complaining...but I should have planned it better so i nappped too. ;)
Jumparoo
Is that the bouncy thing for the doorway? Do you need a frame/ledge to put it up? We'd like something like that, but we have a very modern-style place with no moldings.

Maybe Aidan would like that one more than the doorframe one. This kid LOVES to bounce but when we put her in the doorframe one she'd scream her head off and cry. We might put this one on her Christmas list.
College: Texas used to have a fabulous program called the Texas Tomorrow Fund where you could lock in today's college prices for whenever they go to college. Unfortunately they got rid of it for some reason which makes me sad. That was about the time that they got rid of the tuition caps at A&M and Texas (the two major schools in the state). So, we'll be saving until we're blue in the face to make sure our kids don't have the same loans that we do. My mom did research and found that the Nebraska 529 is the best fit for us.

Re: Terminology Adjustment
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing in regards to an adjustment in terminology that must be made immediately.
For almost thirty years I have been led to believe the term “sleep like a baby” to mean:
-long period of restful quiet sleep
-deep, uninterrupted sleep
-after which, the person wakes once well refreshed
I have been lied to.
This term either needs to be eradicated immediately and the individual responsible for getting it into the English language severely punished, or the following adjustments need to be made to the definition:
-short periods of dozing with screaming or singing punctuating each hour as it passes on the clock
-1-3 hour intervals of sleep with 30-45 minute playtimes in between
-waking up at an ungodly hour ready to start the day, after wearing your mother thin and preventing her from reaching REM at any point during the night
-falling into a deep sleep after an hour of rocking, shushing and bouncing, only to awake 2 hours later with a gigantic poop or pee saturating one’s diaper
Please put this matter of extreme importance at the top of your list and contact me if you need any scientific data to support this adjustment. I will gladly let you take night patrol any time. Quite frankly, I need the rest.
Kind regards,
kimthebride

We have the FP Jumperoo... we got it for ds#1 and now ds#2 is using it (has been for a while, actually). It says that it folds for storage, but that's debateable (sp?). The legs kinda go in, but that's about it, so yes, it does take up quite a bit of space when not in use.
Anyone else here have an early riser? Will has decided that he should be up for the day at like 5:30... and won't take a nap until then like 8. I'm soooo jealous of those of you that say that you don't start your day until like 8. :(

Anyone else here have an early riser?YES! We're up sometime between 5-6am every morning. I just recently discovered that if I go lay back down with her around 7, we'll get another 2-3 hours of sleep. I know that's probably not feasible for a lot of mommies though :(.
LOL @ Kim's letter. I tossed the phrase "sleeps like baby" out of my vocabulary months ago. ;)

ROTFL! That letter is cracking mme up Kim!
If it were up to Collin we'd be up at 6am, but I bring him in bed with me and he can sleep, play, sing, whatever, but I'm not getting out of my bed until 7:30!:p
Jack was sleeping until 7:00/7:30 previously but just in the past week or so he has started waking earlier. Now he's usually up at about 6:15. And he's not a big fan of having a bottle and going right back to sleep anymore. He usually won't take a nap until around 10!
Chylynn
11-16-2005, 07:54 AM
LOL, Kim, that letter is a riot!! Rebecca goes to sleep around 7:15 and is up anywhere between 5:30 and 7. I turn the monitor down low in the morning and she plays in her crib for a while before talking louder and louder until she drags me out of bed to play with her.
QOTD
My DD has been leaking in her diaper come first thing in the morning and I am thinking this might be what is waking her up. I heart cruisers, but they just are not cutting it for 12 hours. I even tried double diapering her and sometimes this works, but I think I am going to try Huggies Surpreme for nighttime since they have the elastic that goes all the way around the waist. Anyone else having this problem or is it just because Rebecca eats a lot at night?
Traciann
11-16-2005, 08:01 AM

QOTD re:leaky diapers
We use cloth and I double stuff her diaper at night. Sometimes, like this morning when she got up at 4:30 I had to change her, but most nights we're okay. Sorry I can't help more Chylynn!
AllyNo ear problems yet, although I've wondered a couple times if she might have an infection. My Dr. said they look fine. If I was noticing Addie pulling on her ears a lot I'd probably take her in.
REM sleepAnyone remember what that feels like???? I swear Addie used to sleep through the night and I got spoiled. Now I feel like I'm dragging all the time because I'm not getting enough REM sleep! Thank goodness DH is off all next week and he can take Addie and let me have a break! :D

Overnight leaking...
We moved Will into Size 4 Huggies Overnights. They are a bit big on him (usually wears size 3 Cruisers), but they DO NOT LEAK!

Home sick with Sarah today :(. Last night she had a fever of 100.7 and even took a 2-hour nap and then went to bed 45 minutes later (this is the same child who hasn't napped for more than 40 minutes at a time since she was 10 weeks old!) So you know somethings wrong! She is napping again now and is even sleeping through a time she normally eats. Luckily, we already had her 6 month check up scheduled for today, so it's going to be a sick visit now. I have a feeling she won't be getting her shots today. And it's her 6 month bday - ok, not that she knows that or anything ;).
Overnight leaking - We've had this problem the past two nights, but Sarah has still been in Size 2 Swaddlers. So I'm thinking it's time to move into Cruisers.
Up from her nap...only 20 minutes, she must be feeling better ;). Back later!

Chylyn - The ILs got DD a jumperoo as soon as she was old enough. She's just starting to get into it. My niece, however LOVES the thing!!
What sort of surgery does your daughter need? I'm sorry that I missed out on the discussion. I had to have eye surgery at about 8 months old, I believe.
DisneyGirl - I'm in Southwestern PA. The closest big city is Pittsburgh.
Thanks for adding me to the list... Do you need any more info from me for it?
Cynder - :o I start my day between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. DD usually wakes up between 9:30 am - 10:30 am. Of course now that I've said this, I've probably jinxed myself!
DD LOVES to shred paper!! *LOL* She sits in her daddy's lap, when he gets home from work, and he's going through the mail. She has to have some junk mail to hold or she'll grab the mail out of his hands!!
Overnight leaking - We only had this happen once. We use the cuisers size 3. If she starts filling her diapers that fast, I usually just go to the next size up. I hope that it's not the cruisers because I really like them! We had problems with huggies, when she was younger. I had a mess in my lap one morning!! EEK!
Sasha - I'm sorry to hear that DD is ill. :( I hope that she's better soon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
DD started Pears yesterday and seems to like them. In fact, there isn't much that she doesn't like! She's a pretty good eater. She didn't like cereal too much, but when I started mixing fruit with it, she eats it MUCH better.
The only one that she didn't really like was peaches... The first time we gave it to her... The look on her face was priceless!!

Kim LOL! :D

We start our day around 8 after she has woken up at 5 or 6 to eat.
ear pulling Grace has been doing this for the last month I had her ears checked and the Dr said it's teething.

Ally - When Sarah was pulling at her ears about 2 months ago, it did turn out to be an ear infection. Could be him discovering ears, could be an ear infection. Is he acting fussy otherwise?
Kim - LOL, very funny!
Cynder - Sarah will get up anywhere between 6-7:30. If she wakes up at 6:00am and it's a weekend ;), I can usually get her to go back to sleep by bringing her in bed with me.
Sarah was fussy beyond belief earlier between teething, sniffling, congestion and this horrendous cough she has. She just woke up a little while ago from an hour and 20 minute nap (I didn't even know what to do with myself!) and is now happily playing in her exersaucer. But she has hardly peed today, so I am counting down the minutes til we go to the doctor's cause I am definitely concerned.
Alicia,I told Sarah she has to get better fast because we have to meet you and Abbey on Saturday!
Question - juice??
Is anyone here giving their baby juice yet? If not when do you plan to?
I thought it was too early for that but I read on another board where a few moms had been giving their babies watered down juice since 4 months. Are there any advantages to giving juice now? Disadvantages?

Wow. I wouldn't think of starting ds on juice just yet... I figure that I'd like to have him master (as much as a baby can master) solids first... then move on.
I can't remember when we started juice for my other son... but now it's all he wants to drink

I really don't want to give Aidan juice for a very long time. I've heard too much about it being non-nutritional and contributes to childhood obesity. My family tends towards the pudgy so I don't want to do anything to help her be pudgy too. A friend of mine gave her son Propel Fitness Water instead of juice and he loved it. I'm thinking when Aidan gets bigger and can handle a cup (when do I start trying the sippy cup, by the way?), I'll try giving her some Propel.

Kim~ROTF @ you letter! :p
Cynder~Who the hell is starting the day at 8:00 !?!?!? Come on, fess up! That would be me! A "early" day for us is 6:30-7:00am.
Leaky Diaper~None here yet. According to weight she should still be in size 1, but we bumped her up to size 1-2 (transition size) because we were having blowouts during the day. So far so good at night!
REM Sleep~Get it almost every night!
Sasha~Hope Sarah gets better!
We started peaches today, and DD loved them! In fact cleared half a jar at lunch along with a 4oz bottle!
Juice~We haven't even tried it. I'm honestly going to hold off for a while because drinking too much juice earlier in life has been linked to obesity! I probably won't offer it until much later. Just a personal preference.
tgray~I was wondering the same thing on the sippy. I was thinking 9-12mos. Is that too early?
Solids Question~When do they start on stage 2 foods? DD isn't near ready, but DH was asking this the other day, and I didn't know!
We went in for our weight check today. (If you remember, DD lost half a pound from 3-4mos. She was at 10lbs 8oz.) Well she is up to 11lbs 14.5oz!!! :)
Okay, gotta run. We are shutting down the office!

Sasha- I hope Sarah feels better soon! We'll meet up anyway. I'm not worried about Sarah getting her sick. ;)
Ally- Abbey had an ear infection a few months ago also. She never pulled on her ear or acted fussy. The only reason I knew is b/c I took her to the doctor for another matter! It was easy to fix though.
Gotta go. I am totally swamped and beyond stressed out at work. Beyond that, I haven't told them about DH's transfer yet. And they've announced my promotion to everyone on earth. I feel like I am on a runaway train. Oh well, 49 hours from now I'll be in Miami (but who's counting? ;))

Tgray I have been giving sippy cups since 5 months. I started giving her one when we started solids really just for practice. We use the take n toss trainer cups...they are easy to hold and drink from....but not spill proof.
Juice there was a recent thread on this recently in Parenting. I had really mixed feelings about this. I decided that I am ok with giving her a little watered juice every once in a while. Mostly I stick with water though...I am not sure she really knows the difference.

Hmm... that leads me to a question... Do you start water with solids? I bought the sippy cup anticipating that we would give nic a bit of water for practice, but the book I'm reading doesn't mention giving water with solids til 9-12 months...
And...ladybug ...how funny. We're doing sweet potatoes, broccoli, then avacado as nic's first foods...and we're starting saturday too.
So, if you've read the breastfeeding thread, you've heard this already, but... the last time we were at daycare was Monday, cause Nic's cold/cough was just getting worse, and he doesn't sleep there. So, Tuesday I took him to the drs (he's got an ear infection) and today we stayed home cause he totally freaked out this morning...cried like i've never heard when daddy was holding him (Nic is turning out to be quite the mama's boy. Before, he just wanted to be held, didn't really care who was doing the holding - but now, he wants MAMA to hold him... )So, dh TOLD me to stay home. (I am so running out of days... ) Anyway... as we were leaving daycare on Monday, they hand me this note. Get in the car to read it...basically says either send him with people food on Monday the 21st or have a drs note saying its ok not to - oh, or keep him home. Like, I would pay them tons of money to watch my kid if it was possible for me to be home. Anyway... we haven't been back since. I did get a note from his dr, saying that we were starting solids at 6 mos ... I didn't read the note the ped wrote til after we left.. we're starting solids sat, but I don't think I'm going to send them in with him until I think he's eating well. So, I'll probably have some fun when I go feed Nic around lunch tomorrow. Ugh! (I'm still totally ticked off that they think they have the right to tell me how to raise my child. But, I will be an adult and not a b1tch ... (repeating that over and over)...
Kim...that's hysterical. If you start a petition, I'm signing!
Juice: I'm asking for a juicer for Christmas so I can make Nic juice on occasion, but that's probably the extent of his juice for the forseeable future.

Juicenope not yet. I don't plan on giving any tpye of juice until after a yr old. My 2 yr old drink OJ and very rarely 100% apple juice. He would prefer a cup of milk over anything. He also enjoys water.
Sippy cups I'll start introducting a sippy cup around 7 months. my son was drinking out of sippy cup exclusivly at 10 1/2 months. I hope to do the same with her.
leaky diapers none yet!
starting the day I start my day at 8:30. Thank god my kids sleep late! Cause i hate getting up early..LOL I ahve been blessed with 2 kids that sleep great.

happyI read about your daycare issue on the BF thread....wow I would be SO pissed. I'm impressed at your maturity! Something in me is just waiting to blow....like anytime I BF in public I'm just waiting for someone to ask me to stop so I can spout off all the legal stuff about my rights to BF...I guess I'm looking for a fight! I never thought I'd be so passionate about it, but man, I am! :D

Happy I would be so pissed if they told me when I should start solids on my child! I would have completly told them to back off! Its your right to decide when you what your child to start on solids! I mean if your Dr who knows more about your child and thier well being says its okay for you to start solids at such and such a date then i would tell the daycare people to kiss off! Okay maybe not in thoses exact words but i would have thought about saying it like that.
I swear some people just can't keep thier nose out of other peoples lives! I get people making comments to me all the time about things that should make no difference to them about my child. So annoying!!

Happy that is really messed up-who are they to say when you start soilds or not? I know people who BF who didn't start solids for a year. I would def either switch or talk to the director
Juice have not even thought about this!
Ear Happy to say no ear infection for Aiden-either he is teething or just really likes them!
The memo SO after walking up every hour last night from 11 to 2 I changed his diaper and moved him into the crib in the living room. Since we have a 1 bedroom the crib is in there and we have not moved it into the bedroom yet. He feel asleep right away and only work once between 2 and 6:30! So I am hoping it is just him not being comfortable in the PNP. I am going to put him in there again tonight and the crib will be in the room this weekend

Ears
It can be bodily discovery, teething, ear infection or just sleepiness. My friends' 6 1/2 month old literally scratches & cuts her ears she fusses with them so much because of teething.
Juice
My ped said never. He said there's no purpose, that if DS just drinks water and milk for the first couple years that's perfect.
If you do give juice, it's adviced to greatly water it down, like 20% juice 80% water.
Leaks
When DS is eating normally (8pm and changed before falling asleep then 5am feeding) he doesn't need to be changed until he's up at 7am or so. Add 1 more feeding in there and he needs to be changed.
Sippy Cup
I believe around 5 months or so you can start. I think I'll have DS on solids first in early December, then introduce the sippy after Christmas.
shhhhh....I found and disposed of the memo (it is now dissolving in the bottom of the Hudson River) so Thomas slept from 9pm-5am, ate, then slept til 7am. He woke up playing happily in his crib and let me get a few things done before taking him out. Yay!

kim - you are hilarious!!! I love the letter to the prez, and I'm glad that you found the memo and threw it out. LOL
happy - I can't believe that they would send you a note about solids! They have a lot of nerve when YOU are paying THEM to watch your child! Jeez!
starting the day - usually around 9...Maia wakes up at 7 on the nose every day to eat, then goes back down until 9-ish.
sippy cup - she's been practicing with it since she was ~ 5 months old. She loves it and likes that she can give herself water. I only give it to her during solid foods feedings.
juice - we're also sticking with water only.
leaks - very rarely, but they do happen. She's in size 3 baby dry/cruisers (whichever are on sale when we go to the store). ;)
time for lunch!

kim -- too funny! :)
happy -- the nerve! i've never heard of such a thing.. i would definitely consider a new daycare!
memo -- knock on wood the memo has bypassed our house.. good thing cause i need my sleep!
starting the day -- we all get up at 6am to get ready for our day.. and are all out the door by 7:05
sippy cup -- i just bought 2 at target yesterday.. the kind that have handles on either side.. so far she can hold it... but she hasnt figured out that she needs to tilt it up... i guess we have to practice!
juice -- water only here too! i do have to watch out for grandma.. she may try to sneak in some juice when i'm not looking  hopefully me telling her NO JUICE enough times will sink in.
leaks -- once in a while -- our daycare provider actually reccomended switching to a size 4 -- but i tried one on the other day and it really seemed too big still. so size 3 it is for now.
ears -- hazel grabs on her ears and also on her hair at the back of her head and PULLS! looks like its got to hurt.. but she doesnt make a peep!

Memo- Apparently Abbey got a new memo. This one says to stay up late (9:30pm) and get up early (5:45am). It also says that middle-of-the-night waking is still ok to do 3-4 nights per week.
cynder- LOL, you're funny. Rest assured, I am NOT starting my day at 8:00. (See memo above. ;))
Question about solids- I started Abbey on rice cereal last week and it has made her so constipated! Her daycare teachers confirmed that it is probably the cereal that is the culprit. Did anyone else have this problem? I've taken her off the cereal and that has helped, but I obviously need to keep giving her some kind of solids. This food thing is confusing.
Happy1- Ummm, I would be totally annoyed.
sippy cup- Hah! I need to master solids first!
leaky diapers- Not very often. Surprisingly, the Safeway kock-off pampers work great also.

So we went to the doctor yesterday for what was supposed to be her 6 month check up and turned into a sick visit. 6 month stats were 16 lbs, 4 oz and 27 1/4 inches. No shots because she is sick. They gave her a decongestant but it is not working! She has the really bad hacking cough, that when combined with her reflux, is making her throw up everything she eats. The only thing that will stay down has been oatmeal. Pedalyte came back up even. She is in pretty good spirits, except when she throws up. But I can't send her to daycare obviously, and I am literally covered in baby barf! I just don't want her to get dehydrated. We just need this cough to go away and she will be ok.
Alicia - Try oatmeal instead.
Sippy cut - Havent' tried it yet, but since she is trying to hold a bottle, I'm sure we could start.
Juice - Probably not for awhile. No nutritional value and if we do, I will water it down.
Happy1 - You have every right to be ticked off! I've had a similiar problem with one of Sarah's daycare teachers, but not to that extreme. The woman keeps telling me to send her with more solids, that she needs 3 meals a day already. No, she doesn't. They give her oatmeal there and then I give her a fruit or veggie at home at night. Seeing as we've only tried 3 veggie/fruits so far, she is nowhere near needing a third meal, confirmed but my ped. You should say something to them!

Sasha: I'm sorry you're going through this... I am too! We're due for Will's 6 mo. WBV tomorrow, and it sounds like we have what you have! I'm so tired of being thrown up on. The worst part is that I feel like even after I wash my clothes, they still smell funky. Ick!

Sippy cup and Juice No juice here probably won't start for a few months. Sippy cup we'll probably do around the first of the year.
happy OMg I would totally be ticked.
We started solids on Sunday! First we started with Rice cereal and today we tried some Squash, Grace seemed to enjoy it so yippy!

Allyray~Good luck with the crib transition!
Kim~Hehehehe! :p
Alicia~It could be that her body just doesn't tolerate rice cereal. Try a different grain. Barley and oatmeal are usually good options.
Sasha~Ugh! Sorry you are dealing with a sick baby. Hope she gets to feeling better!
Carissa~Glad Grace did well with solids!! We attempted squash, but DD wasn't interested, and when I wasn't looking the dog ate the whole jar!
So far today, DD has had 16oz of formula and half a jar of peaches! I can't get over how well she has taken a liking to solids!! Right now she is taking a loooooong nap (which I'm allowing this afternoon since she did not take a morning nap). I may give her some cereal this evening because we just started the peaches yesterday, and I don't want to give her something new this soon.
Need to get a shopping list done, so I can go to the store tonight. That's reminds me. Need to call MIL and SM (step-mom) to see what we need to bring for Thanksgiving.
ETA: Forgot to post recent pics of DD! A couple of weeks ago, DH's cousin and I did a "photo shoot" of her kids and DD in her front yard. These are my two faves!

Happy1 - I would be livid! Good luck in telling them to back off.
Sasha - I hope Sarah is feeling better soon. Poor girl (and poor Mommy!).
Leaky diapers - All the time at night. I don't have the heart to tell DH that she isn't really sweaty when she wakes up in the morning ;). I got the next size up diapers to try tonight to see if it helps.
sippy cup/juice - No juice for Avery either. I just bought sippy cups (the Advent kind) at the store today. I think one of my books recommended starting th
