Hey! Here I am!

I haven't been too motivated lately. The weather's been nice and Kaeden's keeping me busy. I don't think I've done a page in several weeks.

I have a question, because I'm new to scrapbooking. I'm making my parents a scrap book for their 50th anniversary. I'm hoping to get more pictures soon, but I've gotten quite a few from their friends and I took some of their wedding pictures.

What is the best glue to use? I have looked and looked and none of them seem superior, and they all seem to do the same job.

So, do I use, 2-sided dots, 2-sided squares, glue stick that's non-acidic, and which one?? The 3-m 2 sided thingy with refills, the one made by something starting with an H, I think. I didn't buy anything because I don't know which is best, or easiest. I do kind of like the idea of the ones that are like the new wite-out, where you just roll it on, and you can buy refills.

Help, and TIA!!

Kristy

Kristy - I like the tape runner ones. I can't remember which I use, but the dispenser is navy and clear. I also use some liquid glue pens for smaller jobs.

Don't use a glue stick - I've had bad experiences with those. (Things started popping off my page a few months after I made them.)

I also like terrifically tacky tape for ribbons and fibers. Glue dots and pop dots for embellishments.

I think I saw that blue one at walmart. There were so many choices I didn't know where to begin! LOL

I'll go looking again, probably today!

Kelly - you could also spray the art with archival mist if you wanted to keep the original in the scrapbook.

rebeccasmommy - I'm definitely stealing that idea now that Noah's starting to draw a little :)

DH has to work tonight so I think I may do a couple pages once Kaeden goes to bed.

Emily and Rebecca's Mommy have inspired me!

***Suggestion for finding awesome fibers: check out lavender-haze on ebay. You can get 30 different fibers (1 yard each) for like $5 plus shipping - my total was $6.50.***

emschwar
06-26-2005, 05:22 PM
wow! Thanks for the tip, Kelly! I'm definitely getting some! I'm sooooo addicted to fibers right now! (And now I've got some paypal funds so DH doesn't have to know how much I spend :) )

Anytime - I've gotten so many awesome things on ebay.

Have you had a chance to check them out yet Em?

emschwar
06-26-2005, 05:39 PM
I went right over there! I love the set of 30. Those are auction though, so I might stalk them for a while, and see how much they tend to go for. DH is a little upset with my scrapbook spending of late, so I've got to collect some funds before I go crazy :)

kmmommy
06-26-2005, 06:28 PM
Jared gets like that too.

The sets of 30 go anywhere from $7-$25 usually. Still really inexpensive compared to buying in the craft stores. She sends a coupon for $2 off your next purchase with your item.

Anyone interested in a copy of Becky Higgin's Art of Creative Lettering?

I have 2. (I bought one for myself, and my brother bought me one for hanukkah.) The one I'm looking to sell is brand new, never opened (well, I leafed through it pretending to be really interested in it when my brother gave it to me ;) ) PM me or email me if you're interested. eas725 at gmail dot com

Right now I'm finishing up a scrapbook for the local women's golf association. I'll take some pictures this week.

Don't know if y'all are interested, but when I was searching for cardstock for my next project, I discovered that you can buy Bazzill cardstock in bulk at scrapbook.com. I'm getting 50 sheets for about $14. You have to print the order form and fax it in, but it's a great option if you're using the cardstock as the background for a lot of pages! The album I'm working on (a commission from a friend) is a small light green album by Bazzill, and we're using the same color cardstock for the pages and accenting with two other solids and two patterned papers. :)

Link to order Bazzill in bulk is here (http://store.scrapbook.com/bazcarbyinsh.html)

Great pages, everyone!

I've been scrapbooking for just less than a year now ... and I'm offically hooked! My first book is from the day my DH and I met until our engagement. It's already at 45 pages long! Thankfully, it is almost complete :) I'm a sentimental saver, so every movie or football game or whatever my DH and I went to or did, I have the ticket for. It's been fun. Here are a couple of my favourites ...

Hopefully, I'll be able to find some time soon to finish up the courtship album so that I can really get at my wedding planning one.

My goal for the summer is to get Noah's 1st year album finished, so I'm trying hard to do a little, if not every night, then a few times a week. It helps that there's nothing on tv during the summer. I've actually been on hiatus for a little while and haven't done anything until tonight.

The 2nd year photos are piling up, thanks to the new digital slr (and my tendency to take 60 photos in one sitting), so I need to get year #1 done!

Another scrapbooker here from the old WC thread. I haven't scrapped in a while because all of my creative juices have seemed to stop flowing as of late. Probably has something to do with looking for a house and a job at the same time. ;) But all the layouts you ladies have posted are inspiring me to start up again.

DH & I lived in Germany last year and we spent much of that time traveling so I have a travel album that I'm not even close to finishing. I'm only to April of last year and we took at least one trip a month. So I've got quite a bit of work to do. :)

Wow! Great thread! I've been scrap booking for a whopping 1 month so far. At first I thought it was going to be way too much money, but I've been lucky to have two local craft stores with incredible sales lately.

I'm making a scrap book for my mom as a thank you wedding gift and my FH is making a scrap book for his mom as a wedding gift (although he hasn't started yet, and we have like 50 days until wedding....)

Anybody have wedding themed pages? There are no babies in our family yet, but those pages you guys have done are way cute!

I recently (and I mean in a week & 1/2) cranked out all 11+ mos of my daughter's scrapbook so that I could have it ready for her birthday party on Sat. Although it was really expensive to do, I'm happy with how it turned out. Hopefully she will be one day too!

I'm so happy to have found this thread. I am very, VERY new to scrapbooking. I had the goal of scrapbooking throughout this pregnancy and I now found myself at 6.5 months pg with only 2 pages done....oops!

As to your dream of bazzill.... I share it. If sleep escapes me I count sheets of Bazzill rather than sheep. *sigh* It is my obsession. I'm checking in here a little late, I guess. I've been scrapbooking since 2000. It all started with that heritage album and wanting to scrapbook the wedding. I do special events (graduations, birthdays, reunions, etc.) as well as every day things (DH changing the lightbulbs, DH sleeping, me baking Christmas cookies, Cat Bath, Garage Sale, etc.).

I haven't scrapbooked in about a month now and I'm itching to scrapbook our Vegas Vacation, Girl Scout cookie sales (I've been going back to get these), My group of friends through the years, and a Sleepover Sale at local stores.

Another Fellow Scrapbooker signing in here...I used to sell Creative Memories till I got too busy to cultivate the business, but I still love to scrapbook and I'm almost up to date (since starting with 2000). I just did an album for my BIL of his trip with my hubby to Yellowstone. And lately I've been working on my own family albums. I'm looking forward to seeing the layouts here and getting more ideas on stuff!

I haven't found any that I love. I think my dislike of most of the sites is that there are many people on them that are so negative toward any type of scrapping they don't like. Example: I started as a total CM scrapper. I have evolved somewhat, but I still do very simple pages. To that end, the few times I've posted pages there, or at other places, I've been told that they're "cute" or "not bad for a beginner," when I've been scrapping for 2 years. I've gotten tired of defending my style (sorry, I just don't want to spend hours and hours on a single page, and the story is more important than the embellishments to me), so I don't go to many sites very often. I sometimes find inspiration in the galleries, but I get so irritated at the attitudes I see on the MBs that I just stay away.

I do, however, get inspiration from my dear friends who post pics of their pages. Tanya - will you unpack your scrapbook stuff and inspire me, already!?!?!?!?! ;)

Oh how I wish I could scrap! I fear it will be another week or two (or three) until the house is unpacked and I have enough done that I can actually justify spending my time scrapping! :) How sweet are you saying I inspire you, that's too sweet. You know I love your pages too!!

About TwoPeas. OMG, those gals can be mean. I just ignore 'em. I do my hybrid style thing. I can't quite define my style but it's all mine :) I do LOVE the gallery LOVE IT. I find so many cute things in there.

I got 8 pages done on Saturday. I did 2 pages of a local "Sleepover Evening" where you'd get 25% off what you bought if you had PJ's, a teddy bear, slippers, mud mask and curlers in your hair. Heck, I've made a fool of myself for less! DH went with me to take pictures!

I also did 6 pages of my Girl Scout troop selling cookies out front of Ames, then Wal-Mart from 1990 to 1994. I had a lot of fun doing those! I can't believe how young we looked! ;)

I did manage to get a 2-page LO for our family album done, and 2 pages for an album I'm being commissioned to do for a friend. I'm hoping to get more done today.

My CM consultant is doing an overnight crop - 7 p.m to 7 a.m. on August 5th. I'm soooo going!! :)

rebeccasmommy - I have found other women to be the meanest when it comes to "judging" crafts like scrapbooking. I enjoy a more plain style myself. It is less expensive, and it also doesn't take away from the pictures themselves.

strwbrygirl - that page looks great! maybe like one or two trinkets or tickets or something from new orleans put into the blank spaces, but even that isn't necessary! sometimes less is more. I think it's very classy! :)

Since I am newer to scrapbooking, can somebody tell me what fibers are? Any good, inexpensive places to buy paper besides michaels & joann fabrics in southeast PA?

Hi ladies! I used to lurk in the other scrapbooking thread, but this is my first post over here. We're moving into a new house in less than a month now and I found the coolest thing ever for my scrapbook room:

Does anyone have anything like this? Any reviews or recommendations? How do you keep all of your scrapbooking stuff organized?

BethElena- thanks for the compliment! (BTW, fibers are a "fancy" word for cloth embellishments- like ribbons, etc. There are tons out there to choose from.)

I added a few small embellishments to the page, and here's the result:

Here are two pages that I did earlier tonight:

Kelly - I probably would be willing to part with one that I have. It's (I think) the old CK baby idea book. Let me find it and look through it just to make sure, but I don't think there's any ideas I still need to steal from it. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get some more specific info on it (you know, like the title :) )

We went to Michael's yesterday looking for a frame for a poster and I wandered off to the scrapbooking dep't (which is pretty paltry, btw). I was DROOLING over all of the "It's a boy!" and 'baby' stickers and kits. They weren't having a sale and I didn't have a coupon, so I was good and didn't buy anything! Just for kicks I decided to check ebay for stickers and it seemed like they were going for more money on ebay than buying them in the store. Anyone know if that is the norm? There were a couple lots of stickers that seemed reasonable, but then you add on the ridiculous shipping charges and it just doesn't seem worth it.

Michael's has a coupon in their ad in today's paper for 40% off 1 regular priced item (at least here, but I think it's universal.)

Ebay does usually have lower prices, but you do need to watch the shipping. There are a lot of them who have decent shipping rates. Check out jadzyacl and scrappycreations. They were great to work with!

You guys are awesome! I love all your scrapbook ideas. I went to AC Moore to get some "starting" supplies but I got too overwhelmed. LOL. So I only ended up with a scarpbooking book to check out and some things I think I might need, to decorate.

But there is SO much stuff to choose from. I mean, there was books of already put together pages & different patterned paper? I dont even know where to start. Ugh. I guess it will take some time.

rebeccasmommy
07-12-2005, 07:02 PM
bensgirl1222 ~ The easiest way to start is to buy an album (you have to decide what kind you like), some coordinating cardstock (Michael's sells packs of different colors), a good pen, adhesive (a tape runner or photo squares usually works well, but everyone has their own preferences), and a good pair of scissors. Seriously, as much fun as all of my other goodies are, if you're just starting, you can do a lot with just the basics. Then, as you get more experienced, you can play with other fun things. Also, I've found that looking at magazines that feature layouts that I like helps me to get ideas.

Hope this helps. I have to rescue the checkbook from my daughter's hands!

I'm just a beginner and I love it when Joann Fabrics has sales...I've been getting my paper for like 5/$1 or 50% off. I've also bought those packs of cardstock -- i've used a lot of them for mating pictures and poems and such. They seem to be the most economical packs for just starting out.

Hey everyone!

I am definatly going to be subscribing to this one! I love scrapbooking!

I actually started in college. I wasn't good at all, but I really liked it. Then in Feb my cousin and his wife had a beautiful baby girl, and I scrapbooked an album for them. I am getting more into it now and I was able to scrapbook an entire album of my FI's first trip to Washington DC in 1 day!

I would also suggest the sale going on now at AC Moore. They have a book of 180 pages of patterned paper for only $9.99! I am in love with the patterns and have made some pages so far and really like how they turned out.

You all have amazing pages! I'll see if I can post some of mine later (they're not as nice as everyone else's!). I did make one page for my cousin's scrapbook and wrote the lyrics to "I hope you dance" arouind the pages and had some great pictures of their daughter! I was so proud of that one!

Nice to meet you all!!

Bensgirl ... welcome!

I know it all seems overwhelming of what to buy and where to start. I would also recommend looking at idea books and magazines for inspiration.

You were asking if anyone had any pages of how we met our BF/DH's. My first scrapbook (which I'm *still working on 45 pages later!) is of our courtship. The day that we met was new years eve, but we didn't have any photos to add, so I just made a celebration page with the story.

The following page is to mark our first date ... it's really simple, but I think it turned out ok.

So glad I found this thread! I've been scrapbooking for over 2 years but have mostly just been sticking to easy pages, CM style. I want to get more into embellishments and other fun stuff. I'm almost done with my first album which chronicles the 3 years FH and I dated before getting engaged. I bought a nice red album for our engagement years. I do lots of doggie pages as well, I include them in our albums. I have a separate little blue album I want to use as a memory album for one of my dogs that passed away last year. But I've been avoiding it and it's one of the reasons I stopped scrapbooking for a while. This year, I've been engaged a year already and I really want to complete our dating album and get started on our engaged album. We're getting married next year and I hope to be all caught up by then.

All of you girls are so creative and I hope to get lots of pointers and help with completing my pages. I really want my new album to be more creative.

Here are some pages I've done, very simple CM style:

Catch--You've got some great stuff there! I'm not one with creative ides (sorry) but if uyou're looking for nice embellishments, try stopping in at either AC Moore or Micahels. They have some great transfers of sayings for pets, love, vacations etc.

I've done some pages about FI and I and all the stuff we've done together since we've been engaged (vacations and the like) and I found some great stuff at both the stores I mentioned before. They have so many romantic things, and after awhile, the creative ideas just start pouring from your fingertips! You've got some great pages so far, so I know once you get back into the swing of things, you're going to have even more amazing pages!

Everyone has some really great stuff! I'm at work right now, but tonight I'll try to snap a few pics of some pages I've done. They're not fancy or anything, but they got the job done ;)

So glad I came here :)

Hey, how do you girls use that velium stuff? I used some on one of my pages (guy told me to use glue to stick it) of velium quotes and it looks horrible! I will try to send page to show you.

JenGirlie
07-13-2005, 02:45 PM
BethElena, you need to use certain types of adhesive when gluing down vellum, because the adhesive shows through. There are several different kinds. One, you can try a spray adhesive. They have some specifically for vellum, I think it's called vellum spray (what an original name! :) ). Two, you can try using a Xyron machine. I don't know if you have one of those, but from what I've heard, they work really well with vellum (it's a machine where you run your paper, vellum, or whatever through the machine and it applies the adhesive to the back). I have several different Xyrons but I've never used them for vellum but I've heard many people rave about them. Three, you can use vellum tape. Special double sided tape made specifically for vellum, that won't show through. You should be able to find it at Michael's or any other craft store. Actually, you should be able to find any one of these three at any craft store.

Oops, just thought of something else! You can also attach the vellum without using adhesive, such as with eyelets or brads in the corners, using staples, some sort of decorative clips, etc.

Or you can disguise your regular adhesive by placing it under the vellum only in parts that will be covered by something else on your page. So for example, if you have a photo or something that is going to cover a corner or two of your vellum, place the adhesive in that corner so it will be covered by the photo and then it won't show through! :)

My favorite way to attach is to use brads or eyelets...then you don't have to worry about the adhesive at all, plus it's super cute.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! What about the premade cardstock with the patterns? Is tha OK? I alomst bought that last night but then I didn't bc I wanted to see what you all thought.

I think you'll find that you will develop your own style. For example, I'm a paper person. I have tons and tons of patterned paper. I used it for borders around pictures in all sorts of different ways. My best friend is a sticker person. She likes her plain white pages with lots of stickers. Once you get started, you'll experiment and go from there. Definitely get an idea book or magazine, that will give you lots of inspiration, too!

Whew! Arriving fashionably late to this thread! I followed along in the other scrapbooking thread and really enjoyed it.

I second what Leslie is saying about everyone having their own individual styles - the girls I scrap with all do things just a little bit differently, but that's half the fun - we're able to pick up on interesting ideas from each other that we might not have thought of on our own. We usually get together for a midnight crop about once a month, but ever since summer arrived, we've been too busy to organize anything. :(

I have a few pictures from my wedding scrapbook to share. I like a fairly simplistic style, most of the time, and with my wedding book, I tried to stay very simplistic since there were SO many pages, and I didn't want the project itself to get so overwhelming that I wouldn't be able to finish it. ;)

Our First Dance (the little circles are mirrors, and the words on the vellum are the lyrics to our song):

Thank you, Jen! Finishing the album was tough - I made a mistake that I won't make again when doing such a large album - I got TOO complicated and over-ambitious with each layout, and wound up burning out. When I flipped through the album, it felt so hodge-podgey - each page was pretty on it's own, but it was lacking a feeling of consistency. I ended up going back and taking apart about six or seven layouts, and redoing them in a much simpler design. I was so much happier when I did it that way - wish I would have saved myself the wasted time, but at least I know for next time. :)

BethElena I didn't think it would be fair to let you air your dirty-vellum-laundry without airing mine too. ;)

As you can see, I need to fix this page - but every time I go to the scrapbook store, I spend my money on Bazzill paper (I'm addicted) and other goodies, and forget to pick up vellum adhesive. :D

I'm gathering ideas for our wedding album. I've been so busy with other projects that I haven't gotten around to much, but I found this website with tropical layout designs that will be helpful when I do our honeymoon pages.

Just thought I'd pass them on :)

Tropical Pages (http://www.tropicalscrapbooking.com/layouts.htm)

Everyone's pages are WONDERFUL! I really can't wait to dig in. I've only done one scrapbook so I'll take some pictures and post. I liked doing it, but since it was my first one, I had to spend a ton-o-cash for the supplies. I can't imagine what it's going to cost to get everything for our wedding one.

Well since I have the computer for a little bit, here's our vacation scrapbook that I did when we got back from St. Lucia. I can't believe I did it 2 years ago. :) Since it was my first one, I spent probably about 6 hours on each page, carefully cutting each picture with scissors, matting and rematting, laying out and relaying out. It took me about 6 months to finish it, and it's only 19 pages!!! But it was worth it :)

I love everyone's pages!! Wow - everyone is so creative :)

I'm new to the thread, but have enjoyed catching up. I've scrapped since college (about 8 years now) but I don't get too intricate. I'll have to get some pictures of my favorite pages and post them.

My biggest problem: finding the time to scrap. Not that I'm super busy - but we just moved into a new house. And I don't feel right about scrapping when we have other things to be doing.

I do have my own room for my crafts (since we don't have kids) and everything is set up and organized - ready to go. I think I'll just have to designate time for scrapping. Like 4 hours on a Saturday night or something. :)

Hi everyone! First of all, let me just say relieved I am to find out where all the WC people have gone. :D Second, I love this thread and would love to join in! Everyone's pages are so inspiring, especially to a first time scrapper like me.

I just started my first scrapbook about 5 days ago; it's a "baby's first year" book that I'll display at my daughter's 1st birthday party. Since it's kind of a quick flip-through book (and I have a tight deadline) I'm not really including much if any journaling.

I finished my third page last night and I have to say I am just ecstatic! It is very fulfilling; I can already see how this excitement turns into obsession!

Here are the pages I've done so far if anyone's interested. I'm afraid they are not very creative since I'm totally stealing layouts (mostly) from the Cathy Zielske book I have. I even read a quote by CZ where she encourages beginners to copy and that their true style will emerge. So I'm going with that. LOL The only difficulty I'm running into so far is that I don't have a 12x12 paper cutter (just one about half that size, a gift from my mom) so it's impossible to get straight cuts of cardstock. I'm not sure if I'll get one or not, since I'm thinking of going all digital after I get my physical photos scrapped. Also, the layouts I'm shamelessly copying are 8.5x11, so I'm trying to translate them to 12x12. It sure is fun!

Cute LO's Audrey&Jackie! :) One thing though, would you mind putting each picture on a different line rather than side by side like that so we don't have to scroll sideways to read text? I know a lot of us just give up on reading after a while because it's too annoying to have to scroll back and forth for every single line of text - like you're doing right now. :p

Does anyone here do any scrap book pages digitally? Once my DD was born, I started using only the digital camera. I figured that since I was going to have to edit the pictures on my PC and then print them out, that I might as well layout the entire page on the computer and then print it all out. I have a scrapbook software called "Creating Keepsakes" that I like somewhat. I do a lot of the page layouts in Photoshop though. This has been easier for me (and cheaper too) then doing a traditional scrapbook. If anyone else uses scrapbook software, which one do you use? Here are a few of the pages that I have done.

This is so true! I bought a few layout guides (like stencils) that show where to cut and such, and it helped me out so much! I took many a trip to our local scrapbook store to look at what they had, then tried to remember it all when I got home. I'm also saving quite a few ideas for use when I start our dating/engagment/wedding/life scrapbook. Your pages look great!

Great paper deal!
I don't know if all of the Costco's in North America get the same kind of deals at the same time (I'm in Canada, so maybe not) but I just picked up a 300-sheet slab of cardstock in gorgeous, basic colors for less than 20 bucks.

I noticed that they're also carrying stamping sets now - they came with several different stamp pads in various colors, and a ton of stamps in different sizes. :)

Anyways, if you're a Costco shopper, it doesn't hurt to see if they have the slab of cardstock there the next time you're shopping. :)

I print on photo paper, but you can print on regular white paper. Everything you see on the page was done on the computer, all of the graphics, text etc... There are a lot of Scrapbook softwares out there, I happened to buy "Creating Keepsakes" because I found it at Walmart and it was fairly cheap. I bought it a long time ago so I don't remember how much I paid for it, I want to say $20-$30.

I have done a couple of commissioned scrapbooks. The first one is an ongoing portfolio for a friend who is a wedding planner. For that album, she pays for supplies and $8 per layout. Since it's a business thing for her, there's not really any journaling, per se.

The second one (I'm still working on), I scrap the photos, but leave space on each page that she can do the journaling on. I also did that with an album I did as a gift (for the same person the portfolio is for), and left her space throughout the album and at the end for journaling.

As for how I got started, both people approached me. I haven't really thought about soliciting any projects, simply because I barely have time to do the ones I have! :)

You knew I'd make my way over here sooner or later, didn't all of you? :)

I'm looking for a hole punch, can you help me? I want something that makes small holes and 'slits' in my cardstock, for threading ribbon, thread, etc. I'd to be able to make a few sizes of holes, and I guess the slits would be from 1/2 inch to about an inch, and pretty narrow, just something I can thread ribbon through. I'd like the tool to be able to reach the middle of 12x12 paper, so if it's the stapler-looking type of hole punch, it would have to be long. If it's a hand held punch (kind of like an eyelet setter) I want something you don't have to bang down on really hard to cut the paper (it drives me crazy when people at crops start slamming on their eyelet setters)! Sorry to those of you who use them. Any ideas what I should buy?

emschwar: Do you still have that copy of Becky Higgin's Art of Creative Lettering? How much are you selling it for?

DiscoDiva, the only thing I can think of that may work for you is the Sizzix Paddle Punch (http://www.sizzix.com/shop.cfm?function=form&content=bodies/product_landing/paddlepunch.html&menu=menu_shop.cfm), since you want to be able to use it in the middle of a 12x12 page.

I know there are different punches for it for different size holes, and there is also a couple of slit shapes for lacing. So that might work for you. I can't think of anything else that could punch the holes in the middle of a large page.

Hope that helps!

Here's a fun little QOTD - what's your favorite scrapbooking tool?

Mine is the Perfect Layers from QVC:
http://images-p.qvc.com/is/image/f/15/f3415.001?$proddetailmain$

They're rulers with little lips of different widths. You glue your photo to the mat, bump the edge of the lip up to the photo, and use the craft knife to trim. So easy!

(I've mentioned it before on WC.)

I also like the Perfect Layers tool. I love how easy it is to make multiple frames and that they all actually look the same.

I also like Dry Bond adhesive from QVC. Price is $19.78 + shipping.

BTW, Emily - I got the book today. Thanks!

I started Luke's book this weekend. I figured if I get the pre-birth date pages done, maybe I won't get so far behind once he is here (wishful thinking, I know).

I hate buying my stuff at Michael's, but it's like the only place around here. The other two stores that I loved buying supplies from both closed.

I sooooo want one of those organizers! I asked for one for Christmas, but no dice. I bet that's much better than a big Rubbermaid container. lol

QOTD, I don't have a favorite tool, but I'm definitely going to have to check out the Perfect Layers. It sounds really cool!

My DH says that I am the best darn scrapbook stuff collector he knows. :D In other words, I buy all the stuff but never use it! I really need to get motivated! I hate my handwriting, so I type up all of my (long) journaling in Word and then print it on solid paper. If it's just a sentence or two, I'll write it out freehand.

I have a table in the guest room for scrapbooking. On one side, I have a 10 drawer rolling cart from costco. On the other side I have this cabinet from ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/22842_PE073146_S3.jpg
I got extra shelves cut at home depot and I store my paper in there.

Above my table, I have this on the wall, also from ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/27467_PE081906_S3.jpg
Technically, it's a cd shelf, but it works for holding supplies.

Some of my supplies are in a Crop-in-style XXL, though those tend to be the ones I use less frequently.

I also have a set of yaffa blocks for more storage, and the bed in the guest room :)

On the table I have 2 desk organizers to hold pens, pencils, rulers, adhesive, blades and other things I use frequently.

I have been lurking for a long time, admiring everyones work.
I have not posted because I had not taken any pictures of the Album I'm doing for my sister right now.
It is just sorta a mini album of sorts, and I have left lots of room on each page for her to journal on, so some of the pages look a little bare.
I figure they out to look much better once she finishes writing on them.

I do most of my journaling by hand, unless it's long. Then I'll type it and print it out. The only major exception is the album I'm doing of my teaching career. I do a page for each year, and the journaling itself is usually an entire sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper, so that's typed. :)

Everyone has such beautiful pages! I spent all weekend scrapbooking the pictures from our beach weekend and it's coming along very well!

trefoil--OMG! It's like you walked into my house! Our kitchen looks EXACTLY the same, and our cat Xander does the same exact thing...it's so funny! He'll either sleep on top of the freezer or on the top of the cabinets! Your pages are adorable!!

I know it was awhile back, but since I didn't get to post for awhile, I wanted to share my favorite tool. It's REALLY simple, but I've gotta say the corner rounder is a favorite. I think it just makes things to finished looking. Also, I bought these pre-made mats for the pictures at AC Moore, and I adore those too!!

Hopefully I can post some pictures of my new pages!

When you do your scrapbooks, do you embellish each page?

I have over 400 pictures from our wedding. Some are duplicates, some are the same picture from different angles. But there are some that have to be put in our wedding album...and that could take pages and pages. I was thinking of just embellishing the important pages (bridal party, first kiss, cake fight, etc) and using colored photo corners for other pages in between. I don't want to spend a fortune on supplies, or a lot of time on pages, and I don't want it to look too "cluttered".

Any suggestions?

Kimberland30- When I am scrapbooking an entire album of the same event, I don't embellish every page. Sometimes simplicity is key. Especially with things as important as wedding pictures, let the pictures be the focus of the page. Sometimes something as simple as rounding the corners, or even the paper your putting the photos on will be all the embellishment you'll need!

Good luck scraping your wedding...if you take any pics of them, please post them. I'm looking for some inspiration for when I need to start scraping it myself! :)

I'm fond of the simple and elegant look as well ... I like the photos (and some journalling) to tell the story themselves.

Kim ... We have about 400 pics from our wedding as well. What I'm doing with them is splitting them into two albums. One album is for all the professional proofs and other photos just themselves. I didn't want my scrap-album to contain all of the photos ... the book would end up huge! So, I'm just going to choose my favourites from the pics to make the scrapbook.

Thank you so much for all your responses! Now I won't feel bad for not embellishing each single page. :)

MandyMaloo: I'll definately post when I get started. Now that I'm on the idea bandwagon, there are so many pictures I wish we'd gotten from the wedding. Like more of the guys (2 GM's showed up just before the wedding, so they didn't have time for candids). Our pro guy missed a lot and I'm so disappointed, but hopefully we can make pictures from the DVD's that we got of the ceremony and reception.

Al'sgirl: I'm not exactly sure how I am going to do our scrapbook yet. I'll probably put just the best pictures in it...and keep the rest (duplicates and such) in a separate standard album. We'll have our pro album too.

Vjel: I think I saw some of your layouts at the other site because they look very familiar. They are great! In fact, when I saw yours I realized that I really should include pictures of us ladies getting ready. So many wedding albums I've seen only focus on the wedding and reception, I want ours to include our baby pictures and growing up (only a select few that we highlighted at our reception), our engagement story and our wedding day.

Islandgirlsj: Your pages are wonderful! See what 2 years will get you? LOL I agree that simple is the best way to go. :)

Last night I went to my first Creative Memories party...and OH MY! I didn't do a project because they were doing one for little boys (I have a 15 year old girl), so I just watched and looked at the catalog. I am going to get a regular scrapbook album (12 x 12 with the insert sheet protectors). I don't like the ones that CM has. I have a 40% off coupon for Michaels and saw a nice one there that I could use. Plus Michaels is having a sale on all their scrapbooking items, so I kept that in mind last night.

One thing I did get was this....a personal cropper.
http://creativememories.com/ProductCollection/Images/en-US/Item%20Grouping%20Type/Product/Product%20Image%20Type/Item%20Image/140_2.jpg

On my wish list is this....12" decorative trimmer (I have a Fiskars straight trimmer already).
http://creativememories.com/ProductCollection/Images/en-US/Item%20Grouping%20Type/Product/Product%20Image%20Type/Item%20Image/492_2.jpg

I also bought some stickers, borders and journal boxes. I'm going to Michaels tomorrow night and get some other stuff. I told my DH that this could become a very expensive habit...and bless his heart...he said "How in the world can that happen? It's just paper!!". That's my sweetie!!

Maybe all this will motivate me to finally clean my office so I can get a craft station built. :)

What is it with some pro photographers? We paid so much money for him, and granted the pictures he did get are INCREDIBLE and we don't regret hiring him, but I wish he got more pictures of things like the mother's lighting the candles, the dad's doing their speeches, candids of the groomsmen...stuff like that.

We have two DVD's of our wedding and reception from different angles. My daughter seems to think that if I pause a frame, I can copy that into paint, crop it, then save it as a picture. I haven't gotten it to work, but I'm a computer idiot. She's playing around with it right now so I hope she can figure it out. I'll let you know if it works!

There are some things that you just have to buy from creative memories: The personal trimmer (like Kimberland posted above) and their cutting system. The cutting system consists of templates and blades so you can trim pictures or paper into ovals, circles, shapes, etc. It may be expensive, but it is hands down the best cutting system out there!

For those who are looking for scrapbook storage, I bought a 6' high by 4' wide (around 20" deep) cabinet for my supplies. It is absolutely fantastic, and it holds ALL of my scrapbook stuff including 2 totes! The shelves are adjustable and the front has a lock: perfect if you have kids. I got it on sale for $99 at Home Depot but I think it's regularly $120 or so. Here are a few pics:

Great cabinet!! I just have no idea where to look. Home Depot is a good idea!

DiscoDiva- What do you have your paper stored in? That's my weakness, paper. I have a TON of it! In all sorts of different patterns and colors.

How do you all store your patterned papers? By main color?

There are some things that you just have to buy from creative memories: The personal trimmer (like Kimberland posted above) and their cutting system. The cutting system consists of templates and blades so you can trim pictures or paper into ovals, circles, shapes, etc. It may be expensive, but it is hands down the best cutting system out there!

Have you (or anyone reading this) tried the Fiskars set of templates? I saw it online at Michaels, and was wondering if it was similar to the CM set. ?? Fiskars also has one of those personal trimmers, although theirs doesn't have the handy drawer at the bottom and I don't know what it costs. I've been looking on Ebay now that I have a CM catalog and know what it would cost me IRL.

Love your storage cabinet! My brother said that he'd build me a craft station in our office, but I'm thinking that to save time and $$$, a cabinet like that might be better. I'll need more shelves though - but I can also have some cut at Home Depot to fit.

Kim ... I use the Fiskars templates. I really like them. It takes a while to get the technique down to get the shapes perfect, but I, personally, like how it works better than the CM system.

I have the CM personal trimmers, though. It's very handy for trimming photos and smaller paper pieces. The paper cutter I have is the 12x12 Fiskars cutter.

This week, I went out and bought a 5 drawer "rubbermaid" storage tower on castors. I can't wait to get my supplies out of the big container they are in, into something I can move around easier. I'd love a cabinet like that! But, my craft corner just isn't big enough yet ... until we get out basement renovated!

My paper is stored in some of those wire cubes. I twist tied them together, and I store my solid colored paper in there. I usually buy my printed paper in 'books' like The Stack, so I leave the paper in the 'book.' When I buy single sheets of printed paper, they are for a specific layout, so I store them with the photos for that layout. Here's a few pics of my paper in my cabinet:

I tried the Fiskars templates and did not like them at all! I wanted to use them, but they were just too hard to use. After trying them, then trying the CM set, I returned the Fiskars set. In my opinion, CM is the best way to go.

Where did you get yours? I have been looking for some type of storage tower that will fit my 12" x 12" paper, but no such luck. I have one that is holding all my craft things now, but it's not wide enough for my paper so I need to buy something else. :(

This is what I need to do! That would be sooooo much easier to manipulate around the house since it would be on wheels. You super-organized ladies with scrapping areas in your houses would laugh at my current system. lol

Storage System - we were very fortunate that when we moved into this house, the laundry room had already been converted into a sort of "sewing" room, with plenty of shelves, and a nice big desk built in. Hubby bought me a small television set and we got the cable hooked up in there, so I can sit and scrap while watching my favourite shows at night.

I would take a picture, but as organized as my stuff can be, it's still just a laundry room, so it's NOT glamorous at all. But it serves it's purpose very well. :)

Disco Diva - I still don't understand...where did you get the wire cubes and the shelves? Did the cubes come not assembled and then you just bought a couple and didn't assemble them? So lost.

Yup, I bought some of these things:
http://images.marketworks.com/hi/66/65898/1051750.jpg
But, they come with those white plastic things that only hold them together at the very corners, to make 12x12 'blocks'. I twist-tied the shelves to the sides between the corners, so I could have shelves 1" apart. Now I have a bag of extra plastic corner thingies that I don't use. Does that make sense?

Ooh, found this on target.com for $49.49. It doesn't say how deep the drawers are, though.

Very very clever! Where did you get those wire bins? How tall is it? Sorry for so many questions...I have shelves in a closet and I want to make sure it's tall enough before buying something like that. I like the stackable drawers, but I could probably fit/organize more paper going with a system like yours.

I got the wire bins at Target, Home Depot, etc. A lot of places carry them. I'll bet the have them at BB&B and LNT as well. The cubes are around 14x14, so they are big enough to fit 12x12 paper. The nice thing is that I can always add on to the system easily.

Thanks! I checked the Target website but not BBB.

ETA: Here's one I found on the BBB website. I'll be right by there tonight so I'll check them out in person. This one has 6 cubes for $19.99. They have another one with 4 cubes for $14.99. I have a 20% coupon that I'm dying to use too! :)

The one I got was like this one, except 5 drawers instead:
http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/07/31/49/31/0007314931308_215X215.jpg

I got it at a store we have in Canada called Zellers, it's similar to Walmart, where I found the pic. It was about US$28. It just fits the 12x12 paper, with finger room beside so the paper won't get squished.

Thanks! I did check the ones at Walmart and the drawers were too narrow for 12" paper. But I'm really thinking about getting a 3-drawer one like the one you posted for other things, like ribbon, wrapping paper, bows, etc.

I personally *LOVE* my cropper Hopper work station. I can not believe how much paper they hold. I have two of them, one for plain paper, and another for patterned and speciality paper.

You can even get them at Michaels. Use your 40 % and you'll be rocking!
They are great because you can roll them anywhere.

I like to have my paper protected from light and dust etc. (like cat paw marks and hair!) That's why I went for something that closes up well.

Now that you mention it, I didn't even think of our dog's hair and such...it gets EVERYWHERE. And since our office/craft room is also going to be used as a gym, maybe something that closes will be a better idea.

Islandgirlsj: I *heart* those!!

Leslie, great pages!!!

Well I went to Michaels tonight to take advantage of their sale, and boy did I! I went after work and this might be TMI, but I had a Red Bull just before leaving work and didn't go to the bathroom ON PURPOSE, just so that I wouldn't spend so much time in there. Halfway into my spending spree I really had to go...SO I HELD IT all the way until I got home. How pathetic am I?

The one I went to was small compared to the one by the mall, so I might have to run into that one tomorrow. I didn't have my coupon either, so that's a good excuse to go again.

My office shelves won't hold one of those 14.5" sorter racks. Dang! Anyone know where I can get the plastic vertical storage things in this picture?

https://www.cropperhopper.com/images/products/Paper%20Holder%20Trolley(1).jpg

I didn't see any at Michaels.

Thanks!
