Aww Leslie he's adorable.
Don't worry my ds can't pick his own sports teams. Ironcially it's the Red Sox. We even had a onsie made saying Yankees Suck. Nick huh.
The other night I worked on mine and Dh's album. I was so behind. I finally finished doing the layout from our anniversary trip two years ago. Took me two hours mainly b/c I was watching The Notebook while doing it.
I did organize my pictures for that album and that took forever.

Awwww!! What a cutie!!! I totally understand about not wanting him "out there", but thank you for giving us a peek ;)
Yeah--I know my kids are going to be doomed. Packers stuff all over  --I can see it now! Eeeek!
Yeah, I think I am going to try to get some scrapping done this weekend. We were going to go to the beach, but with the storm surge, I think I'll play it safe and stay home ;). Gives me a chance to get some more progress done! I am thinking about going ahead and starting the "wedding album" since I have a ton of pictures of my and my BM's trying stuff one, etc. I'll just make a seperate one for the actual wedding. Man, this is getting expensive!!

DiscoDiva ... yay for starting a new album! Do you have a lot of ideas in your head trying to get out? :)
Of course! I already layed out all the pics and figured out which pics go on which page. Then, I bought the paper, stickers, and embellishments. Now I need to sit down and start putting things down. (of course, I'll still spend an hour on each layout because I'm picky and I like to do some fancy ribbon embellishments, etc.) I'm ready for some serious cropping!

I do the same thing too. I have my next album (wedding planning) almost all layed out and pics printed and even journaling completed for some of them already!
And, like you, I spend a very long time completing each layout. One of my friends thinks I'm *way to picky.

My mom and sister both think I spend too much time on my pages, yet whenever I finish one they both say, "Wow, that looks like it belongs in a scrapbooking magazine!" So, I guess my hard work pays off. :p

Vorian's_Leronica- no need to be nervous! Scrapbooking is a great way to relieve stress and you have something wonderful to pass down to kids, give as gifts, or just something to look back and remember some great times you've had!
I'd say first, start with what kind of album you'd like to make. It makes it easier when there is a "theme" (ie: kids, wedding, engagement, etc.) but it's not needed. Then get a basic pack of paper (depends on what size you're looking to make- I use 12x12 paper--it's the largest). Arrange your pictures on the paper. Think if there's any captions or "journaling" you'd like to put with the pictures. If you like the way it looks, glue it down, and PRESTO! Your first page is done!! :)
Start simple! My first book was crazy becuase I embellished so much.
Good luck!! And if you have any questions--just ask one of us!! :) :) :)

Joann's has 12x12 and 8.5x11 paper on sale this week -- 5 for $1 (normally $.59 each). They also had 40-50% off embellishments and a 40% off coupon in their circular on Sunday. :D
Michael's has 12x12 paper on sale -- 4 for $1 (normally $.59 each also). They also had a 40% off coupon in their circular Sunday. :D

I was laid off last week, so I should have PLENTY of time to do a few more pages, right? :) I'm spring/summer cleaning and getting caught up on all my home projects (reorganizing CD's, going through a million magazines and catalogs, etc). If I hurry I might be able to get a few pages done before our vacation next week. There will be 21 people at the beach house so I don't dare take anything with me. Oy vey. :)

Hey Ladies!
Just wanted to see if anyone has gotton around to getting more scrapbooking done. I havn't really had the chance (WAY too much wedding drama this past week, but luckily, it's all passed and this coming weekend should prove to be quite productive :)
I DID however, make it out to Michaels on the Scrapbooking Day they had this Sat. I got some great card stock, and all the embellishments were on sale. I'll be heading out to AC Moore this Monday to go get some more embellishments and maybe the Cutter Bee Bugs things. I'm happy! I'm going to be getting some more stuff done this weekend, so hopefully I'll have more to show you ladies next weekend!
Hope everyone is doing well--havn't seen anyone around here in quite some time! Byee!!

I must admit I've been an avid lurker here! You all are just SO wonderfully talented! One quick question - I would LOVE to begin scrapbooking, I've done it once or twice before for a day or two, but that's all. Here's my question: I can only afford about $25.00 every other week for supplies and want to know just what I should buy to start.
Thanks!

Amy ~ Welcome! Start out by buying some papers, cardstock, adhesives and good scissors. You can often find the embellishments on ebay for a good price, but it may be about the same as your local stores. Shop around when you can!

Yay!! I was worried everyone disappeared from this thread!
mrsdrummer- Ooooh! I love scrap parties! I know at all the parties that I have been to, I really enjoy the parties where they are plenty of tools out for everyone to use. I love getting to try out new tools and see if it's something worth getting for myself. Also, I would get some fun music for the background (not too loud) and some younger finger foods! I know some yummy sandwiches always get my creative juices flowing! Good luck on your party- and let us know how it goes!
mrstim- welcome! I have made myself a budget of about the same for my scrapbooking materials. Some things can be rather pricey, so make sure you check around for coupons or sales before you buy! (AC Moore has coupons in the mail flyers, and Michaels-at least out here in Raleigh- are also coming in the mail now. They are usually between 40-50% off!!). I agree- start out with some nice cardstock in colors you like, some good scissors, and some ACID FREE adhesive. You'll be able to add embellishments as you like in the future (you can always add on), but make sure you don't go crazy. My first pages are REALLY busy, so remember to start simple and focus on the pictures! Good luck--and remember to post your pages over on the layout thread as soon as you get them done! (I would also go over there for some great ideas!). Good luck--and come back here often!!! :) :)
I did some scrapping yesterday since I am home sick-I'll see if I can take some pics and post them over on the layouts page. Nice seeing you ladies again!! :)

Very light easy listening background music and lots of finger foods. But, no food that is gooey, greasy or sticky. You want things like carrots, pretzels, etc. Plus, soft drinks (provided they do NOT drink them at their scrapping table!) Also, tape a little trash bag on the edge of the table at every person's place. My consultant uses a brown lunch bag. If you want to make it a lot of fun, have a few door prizes!

Doesn't JoAnn's take other stores' coupons? We don't have a Michael's near by, so maybe I could use those coupons at JoAnn's! Or maybe I should stop the spending so much ;) I haven't scrapbooked for weeks. Just haven't found the motivation. Do you ladies go through dry spells too?

Yeah I seem to rotate. I either get really caught up in my scrapbooking, or I get really caught up in my wedding planning. I can never really seem to balance the two. But since I have plenty of wedding stuff taken care of now- I'm getting back to my Washington DC book.
I'm heading to a sale tonight at AC Moore since they hare having a 25% off total purchase sale tonight! I'm going to be picking up plenty of wedding stuff, but I'll "skim" the scrapping aisle, and if stuff "happens" to fall into my basket, I wouldn't be upset :). Hey everyone!
I just wanted to share this site Scrapnfonts (http://www.scrapnfonts.com/) in case you haven't heard of it. It was advertized in October's "Creating Keepsakes" magazine.
I'm always on the look out for fonts, and this site has all the ones that CK uses in their CD's. They are $2.99 each, but worth it if you are looking for that "perfect font". :)
I've been unemployed for the last 3 weeks, and you'd think I'd have time to start working on pages...but unfortunately I've been doing fall cleaning and running around so much that I haven't had time. I also haven't been in the mood to be creative, as bad as that sounds. :(

For all you digital scrapbookers...
How do you print your 12x12 layouts when you are done with them?
Oops, posted this in the wrong thread initially.
Hi Ladies! I used to follow the scrapbook thread over on WC. I am still working on my first scrapbook (for my first daughter) which I would love to finish one of these days b/c now I have a second daughter and would like to get started on one for her too.
I have such a dumb question for all of you experiences scrapbookers out there:
The album I am using for my daughter is top loading so I am using cardstock as the base paper and then inserting it into the page protector. But now that I am looking for an album for my other daughter I am getting confused. I found a beautiful album but the pages were these thick yellowish sheets and there were no page protectors or anything. So are those think yellowish sheets supposed to work as the base sheet or would I still use something else and just use those in between my pages?
Am I making any sense?
Thanks so much. I know, silly question.

Does anyone here scan or back up their finished scrapbook pages? How do you do it? (Any good links?) I was looking for a scanner that would scan 12" pages (all my scrapbooks are 12x12s) but the cheapest one I could find was over $1,000. Do any of the scrapbooking stores have places you can scan and save in digital format to back up?
I certainly do not want to lose all my memories by accident or something. It means too much to me to only have one copy.

How do you print out your 12x12 digital layouts?
I've been looking for printers and scanners for a while. I found some printers that will print 13" wide from Epson.
Epson Stylus Photo 1280 - $399.99 (http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=28907797)
Epson Stylus Photo R2400 - $849.99 (http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=53540920)
I haven't used any of these two printers specifically, but I buy all Epson printers for my campus because they are very high quality. I actually have a Stylus Photo that I love.

My scrapbook party is this saturday. I'm going to set my computer up in the living room so people can do computer journeling if they want. I'm going to do a sandwhich buffet, and just have some chips and dip. I'm also gonna have some drinks (probably just beer and some of those watermellon bacardi things, and of course soda and water). Does that all sound good. I'm also going to have a tool station, or would it be better to have the tools on the big table? I just don't know. Any other things that would make it more "organized" or better functioning? Oh yeah and I'm also going to have a few Memory Makers magazines out so people can look through those as well.

3. All scrapbooks :D (but no scrapbooking materials such as paper or stickers)

I'm fine, my family is fine, DH's family is fine. No major damage to my home outside of the fence that got blown down and another gate that was ripped of the hinges. (heck, they were so old they needed replacing anyway). No flooding at all. DH's sister lives on Galveston in a beach house and she didn't have any flooding!

Although I'm more into cardmaking, scrapbooking on a smaller scale, I have a question you girls might be able to help me with.
I need suggestions on very stong, permanent glue or double-sided tape - whichever is better. While I'm making these cards to start my business, some of the cards are not staying glued (I've been trying different types of glue). So I could really use help on finding a heavy duty adhesive.
Thanks!

First, stay away from any type of spray mount glue or glue stick. Those never seem to last. Use scrapbooking photo adhesive stickers (you know, the little sticky squares), or use Terrifically Tacky Tape - that stuff as AMAZING!!!!! While the TTT is a little more expensive, it works fantastic.

DiscoDiva~It was like Christmas.... I even forgot some of the things that I ordered. I got everything organized so when I go to the crop on Saturday I'll be all set.
Aug2000Bride~This is the first time that I've ordered scrapbooking stuff off the computer. I got things from JoAnne and Oriental Trading Company. Most of what I bought was embellishment/stickers. I always get my paper from CM.
I'm slightly worried about my sanity.... I've actually been having scrapbooking dreams. I've come up with like 4 layout I want to try..... but I'm out of adhesive squares.... somehow I must make it until Saturday!

Do you gals coordinate your papers to each other on every side by side page in your albums?
For example...I have a red page on the left side (one pager) ...would you coordinate the paper for the next layout (one pager) on the right? Or do you not even think about that?

Okay, this might be a silly question, but I've got to ask!
When you use background paper, do you adhere it directly to your basic white scrapbook pages, or do you mount everything on the background paper, slip it into a proctective sheet, and then add that as a seperate page? I hope that made sense.
al'sgirl
10-03-2005, 09:20 AM
tgr68 ... When I use a full backgroud sheet, I adhere it onto the basic scrapbook page. I thought it would add just a little more stability and durability since most background patterned paper I've used isn't as thick as the basic page. I guess if I used a card-stock thickness for background, I wouldn't need the basic white page. Hope that helps! :)

Coordinating the two sides-Most of my layouts are 2 pagers, so they automatically go together, same paper, etc. If I do do a 1 page layout, I try to coordinate them, but for me, it's not the end of the world if they don't.
Background-I always adhere my pics, embellishments, etc to the background paper I'm using, then take the basic page in the book out and put the page in. I then use the basic page for another layout or mats or something...
DiscoDiva

Coordinating the two sides-My layouts are usually 2+ pages, and all pages within that layout have the same or very similar background paper, as well as the same or coordinating embellishments. I want people to know, while they are flipping pages, that they are still looking at pics of the same event. If I do a 1 page layout, I do not coordinate it with the opposite page. I feel like if I did do that, the it would look like the layouts are the same subject, which they aren't.
Background- (exactly what wag'sgirl said): "I always adhere my pics, embellishments, etc to the background paper I'm using, then take the basic page in the book out and put the page in. I then use the basic page for another layout or mats or something... "
Wagsgirl, it sounds like we have a very similar scrapbooking style!

Wagsgirl and DiscoDiva...you girls are awesome! Sounds like we all scrapbook in the same way!
Af far as a page for an e-pic...I took a really nice deep red color and put the pic in the middle and just simply put on top "Our Story" and then on the bottom in smaller type I put our names and date.
Our epics are mostly all black and white and we love it. I thought the nice deep paper would be the color, but the picture should really be the center of attention.
Good luck and post your page on the layouts thread!! :)

Also, it will have pics on it, making it thicker in places. And, there will be another paper behind it (the layout on the back side of the sleeve). So, there will be plenty to bulk up the papers and keep them in plac.

10-05-2005, 06:53 AM
tgr68 - Just a thought...sometimes if I have pages that are on thin paper and even after I have put them in the sleeve with the other page they seem to be too thin, I will take a piece of thick cardstock paper (like the kind that comes in the album when you buy it) and I will just stick a sheet in between the thin pages. Make sense? That way it ads a bit of bulk to keep things in place.
Coordinating the two sides - just wanted to add my two cents to this topic while I was here. I always coordinate. Even if I don't have enough pictures I jazz it up a bit with stickers, ribbons or embellishments to give it something. But I just have a "thing" with coordinating! :)

Now, I'm not positive about adding newsprint, but for attaching pitures, try either adhesive squares or the adhesives from a craft store. Stay away from lquid glues (they always seem to dry all crinkly) and the craft sprays.
I've actually had pretty good luck with both double sided tape and the acid free school glue sticks (I think tape is acid free anyway...right?)
Good luck!! :)

I haved used double stick tape or the photo corners for most of the scrapbooks I've done.
I have read somewhere on here, how to handle the newspaper, but I can't remember where. I've never worked with it myself!

Another scrapbooker, albeit a new one.
What do you guys do when you have text on tags and things like that - are they rub ons or do you print directly on the tags?
If so, how?
Thanks!
I bought this tool after reading all the rave reviews about it on this thread. I love it! I just wish it was a little quieter but whatever, can't have everything! ;) Anyway, my question is when you use the hole punch head, do you get cardstock/paper build up in the hole? If so, how do you get it out?!? I'm having this issue and tried to get the paper out but not having much luck. Just wondering what every one else is doing. TIA!
Nicole, in terms of tags...I usually print my text on cardstock and then cut out the tag or punch them out w/ a craft punch. Rub-ons work also and if you have nice enough handwriting, you could always just hand write it. HTH.

I have this problem too. I do two things. 1) I used a straightened out thick paper clip to pick out what I can. 2) DH has a small drill bit that fits inside the hold punch head and screws it in. (The drill bit is significantly smaller than the hole punch head so we don't have to worry about affecting how it will punch). The paper holes seem to get wrapped around the drill bit and pull out. After two or three swipes, it's clean and ready to go again. We were running into this a lot when we were working on our wedding programs. DH actually came up with the idea and it worked very well!

I use stickers, rub ons, write directly on them, or print on the printer then cut the cardstock into a tag shape. It all depends on the layout.

I need to think outside the box. I only bought pre-made tags, didn't think about making my own... so I was confused. I couldn't fathom how you'd get a printer to print properly on a tag. Now I get it!

I just spent 8 hours scrapbooking today. I think I can go without seeing another piece of patterned paper or another picture for at least a month.
Has anyone seen the Wild Asparagus line? It made doing my pages so easy, and I really liked what they had. Here's a link to some of their stuff:

I did the same as DiscoDiva (some certificates for my Mom - so I cant post a pic either - sorry). On some I left the background white and did some 'creative' cutting of cardstock to use as 'corners'. (basically just three little triangles, layered on each other but in colors complimentary to the logo/symbols on the certificates) I only did two corners though so the other two corners were plain (so the two corners were across diagonally from each other). Hope that makes sense. :o On another I layered some thin strips to 'hold' the page on one side (I still taped it to the background page, the strips are just for 'show' but I used nice bright colors so it definitely catches your eye). What I did NOT do was spray them - I have the stuff even! Just leary to use it for some reason. DiscoDiva, do you just spray the page conservatively? and only on the back? or both sides? I think I am afraid of making the ink run or something - same with newspaper clippings. I KNOW I should just experiment, with the newspaper at least, but then - what would I have to ask you about?? ;) So if you dont mind DD, can you elaborate a bit?? Thank you!

I've found the Archival Mist to be amazingly simple. I just spray a light coat on the front and back of the item. It doesn't make the ink run and I've never had a problem. It dries very quickly as well. Once you try it, you'll see how easy it is. Just follow the directions!

After several months of not having time to scrapbook, I finally did some this past Saturday. I was able to scrapbook 4 pages of The Fair. I saw the same thing at Borders, and was getting ready to purchase it. I looked through just to see and decided there wasn't enough in there that I would use. They had a few things here and there that were nice, but I took the money I would've spent on the book and bought more scraping supplies :o ...I'm hopeless.
I'd suggest stopping by Borders or Barnes and Noble and checking it out before you buy. Depending on what pages you'll be doing, it might be a great idea. Good luck!

I've also been looking for a good way to hold scraps and I think I've found it. It's the Creative Memories DecoFile Organizer. It holds 12x12 clear plastic folders, and each folder has a smaller pocket on the front for scraps. It comes with six folders and holds up to 24 of them. It also has a shoulder strap for carrying. Here are some pics from the CM website:
The organizer:

Since it's Creative Memories, it isn't sold in stores. You have to go to a CM consultant to get one. All you need to do is find a local consultant and tell her that you're interested and ask if she has one you can look at. I'm sure she'd be more than happy to let you drop by or invite you to her next crop just to check it out!

It's a place called Archivers. It's a scrapbooker's paradise! I was so worried everything was going to be pricey, but it's about the same (and on some things cheaper) and heading to Michaels or AC Moore. I know they are online, so if you're looking for something unique, definatly check them out!

I live in Des Moines and have an Archivers in West Des Moines. It's great!!! If you ever have the opportunity (and the money), check it out. There are so many neat papers and stickers (about half the store is paper) and other scrapbooking items, from embellishments, eyelets, dye cuts and all the accessories. To top it off, they offer classes on some weekends and weeknights. Most of them are free, but the most expensive one that I've seen is $20! I love the store. Also, if you sign up for their mailing list, you get lots of coupons. Last month I got a big discount on 12x12 paper.
They have a much bigger selection than Michaels and Hobby Lobby put together!

I wish I had one of these stores closer to me! I had no idea they were out there. I actually found them in a scrapping magazine and checked out the site. I had no idea what to expect when I went in there, and I was just floored at the selection. I would DEFINATLY sign up for classes...and they even have an area for you to do pages while you're in the store with the materials you've bought. It makes it easy to match the colors and embellsihments to the pictures and see if there's anything else you'd like there.
You're super lucky Kellijo14! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get one out here--heck! I'll work there!! Don't need the money- just wanna scrapbook! :)

Ladies I need your help, I just got my new MM Silent Setter last nite (thanks to the Michaels 50% off coupon :D ) and I am kinda confused on how to work it. I mean I read the directions and know how to punch the holes but when it actually comes to setting the eyelet I just can't do it. I don't know if I'm not pressing hard enough or what. I am pushing down with all my strength but it's not budging the thing. Any tips??
The MM setter, or the provocraft one? I have the provocraft, and you have to twist a little, and it'll only do soft eyelets.
It's a Marcel Schurman Creations album.

It's the MM setter. I try with all my strength, twist adn all but nothing. I hear it pop but then it just barely curls the edges of the eyelet. Maybe I need to try a different eyelet. I'll try again tonite with a different one. Maybe the one I have is too tough.

dal - I tried googling the album name to see if there was an online place that sold them, but didn't have any luck. Sorry!
Thanks anyway. :) I'm going to try and figure out how I can make my own page protectors somehow to fit this album.

CM albums are only strap hinge, and you have to buy the page protectors separately.

Thanks! I thought that was the case, but I couldn't find anything on their site that said for sure!
After having no luck finding weird sized page protectors for the album that I bought and love, I bought some bigger ones that I can cut down. But I'm thinking that will look ugly b/c I'll have to tape a corner to hold them together.
So my question is, would any of you ever scrapbook without page protectors? I REALLY love this album and don't want to return it. Also, it is going to be a baby scrapbook but I don't include original birth certificates and stuff like that. I photocopy those. But I do include White House announcents and the little It's a Girl tag from the hospital and things like that. What do you think? I was avoiding buying the Archival Mist b/c it's expensive but maybe I'll find a 50% coupon at Michaels. Would the Archival Mist allow me to scrapbook without page protectors?
Thanks to all of you experienced scrapbookers for any advice. :)

I NEVER do albums without page protectors, and I won't buy an album if I can't find page protectors that fit. But, that's my personal hang-up, as many people do all their albums without page protectors.
Archival Mist isn't really for protecting the page. It's to spray on documents and memorabilia so they don't fade over time. It also makes them acid-free. You should use AM anytime you are putting non-photos or non-acid free/lignin free items in your album (such as ticket stubs, papers, certificates, etc.), even if you have page protectors. So, the AM won't help protect your whole layout.

I've found that I generally have to do it two or three times with each eyelet to make it set completely. Try to do it a few times, and it should work. :)

Im fairly new to scrapbooking so experts please forgive me if I am 'out to lunch' with this suggestion. :o
I think I would cut down the protectors you found, then make the sealing of the edge (the part you were just going to tape), part of my embellishments. Use eyelets spaced evenly across the edge, or weave yarn, or cord or thin flat ribbon along the edge. Use bright colors to make it stand out, or more subdued colors if you want to just make it blend in. You could also do the opposite edge to match if you want. Theres no rule that you cant embellish the protector right? (It depends on what you use of course, but all my suggestions are 'flat' so your album wont get too bulky). Maybe that would work for you? Good luck! :D
SunnyAB Awesome idea. Thanks so much!

Hi ladies, I'm joining up. I've been scrapbooking for 5 months and I love it! Where are y'all's layouts? Are they posted in another thread? I love to see new ideas.
Has anyone done a paperbag album? I have the album itself, I'm just wondering how to lay it out. Ideas?
Dal, what size are the pages in your album that you want to scrapbook in? Scrapbooking albums are typically all standard sizes (12x12, 8x8, 6x6, etc). Maybe the album you got isn't a true scrapbooking album??

Hi all,
I have a question...I am expecting a baby in March and would like to do a scrapbook as my baby album (I have completed a wedding and honeymoon album). When you pick up a "traditional" baby book in the store, there is a lot of areas for writing - tracking your birth story, who visited you in the hospital, presents received, first haircut, first smile, etc. I would like to combine those stories with a lot of pictures. I'm afraid though if I just buy a blank scrapbook I won't remember what things to track and need pages that will prompt you to write certain stories and track milestones.
What scrapbooks would you recommend that would give you a good combination of those "template pages" and plain scrapbook pages? I use a lot of Creative Memories stuff - do they offer packages? Any other brands that you have used?
Thanks - if this topic has been covered before, please let me know. I didn't have time to go back through all of the entries, but I can if someone points me in the right direction.

Heidi -
CM does make a really great gener neutral set of baby template pages. When I was selling it, I purchased a set or 2 for myself when I got pregnant. I'm looking forward to working through those pages now. Just need to find an album that I like to put them in!

First--CONGRATS! I love scrapbooking baby stuff :).
I actually did a HUGE scrapbook for my cousin when he and his wife ahd their first baby in Feb. I didn't actually use a template. I went back and looked at my own baby book, then dedicated a page to each of the events and milestones, so they could expand the book as Maddy grows. I had a page for the hospital (who came, first bath, seeing mommy and daddy for the first time, etc.), the baby shower, and left pages for her first steps, haircut, tooth, words, etc. I just wrote a heading at the top, left some lines for journaling and information, left room for all the pictures, and just kinda decorated the page.
My cousin's wife ADORED them! Maybe that's something you could do. Instead of using a template, you could make your own. Just flip through some baby books and kinda get an idea what the other baby books are highlighting, the write them down and start scrapping!
Good luck, and congrats again! :)

Okay, Ladies, I am now offically hooked on scrapbooking! I just started my baby's scrapbook (the first two pages) and I love it! Does it take everyone else a long time to figure out how they want to lay the pictures out? I am constantly moving the pictures until I get them just right.
Also, how do you afix the paper to your book? Do you just use the tape you are using on the back of the pictures?
How exactly does the Alphabet Punch set work? Do you put paper through the slot and it punches out the letter for you to tape onto your scrapbook? Sorry, I am a newbie and I have no clue! I just am trying to decide if I want to add that to my Christmas list...any other nice items you want to recommend me to add to my list???
Thanks in advance!!

So glad you are enjoying yourself Chylynn! I too spend a ton of time arranging my pictures, and have recently gotton just as bad with coordinating colors. I'll spend a good hour just making sure all the colors tie in somewhere in the picture and with each other. I tell ya what though--my pages look MUCH better now!!
The album I have contains page protecters, so I just slip my pages right in there. Is that what you were talking about? Does the album you're working on not have page protectors? I havn't worked with any other kind of albums yet, so I don't know if I could help you on that one! :o
I'm not sure which alphabet punch you're looking at. If it's a actual "punch" set- then you'd just stick your paper or cardstock right in there and push down. If you're talking about a die cut machine, I don't know. I havn't used on yet!
Hope you have a great time scrapping! I've got some pages I need to get done this weekend--so hopefully I can find some time! Your daughter is just as cute as a bug!! I LOVE the costume! I'm planning on getting that exact costume someday when FH and I have kids :)

Basically, my rule of thumb is if I use it at home for scrapbooking, I bring it with me. I don't travel light though.

Is your crop going to be at a scrapbooking store, or a home? In other words, will you have access to any of the store's tools, such as die-cut machines, and will you be able to purchase things if you need to? (Which is why in-store crops are always so hard on my visa... :p )
I would bring your cutter, your adhesive, and your black gelpen/zig marker, most definitely. Bring projects you are currently working on, and any embellishments that you think you might use.
I don't travel light either, as the previous poster mentioned, but I still have to decide what I'm going to leave at home so I don't have to rent a U-haul to get to the crop. :p I have one of those huge bags on wheels, and this is what it contains (it happens to be sitting next to me right now, so I'm just glancing into it as I type):
My Fiskars cutter, Cutterbee scissors, tape runner (and extra refills), liquid glue, basic colored pens, set of chalks, Making Memories embellishment kit (includes the grommet setter, etc), an accordian insert filled with various stickers and vellum quotes, one plastic sleeve filled with Bazill/cardstock, one plastic sleeve filled with vellum and fancy paper, one plastic sleeve filled with patterned paper, and one plastic sleeve filled with scraps and leftovers (I don't throw anything away), a corner rounder, a small selection of grommets and brads in basic colors (like black and silver), a self-healing mat, Coluzzle shapes and cutter. And photos, of course. :)
Sounds like a lot, but it's one heck of a good bag and it holds SO much. I also have a second bag that I take with me (because I have the inability to travel light) and it contains my less crucial equipment - a distressing kit, ribbon, foam stamps and acrylic paints, a couple of scrapbooking books for inspiration, and projects in progress.
If you're going to be cropping at a store, you can always opt to leave the extra paper and embellishments at home, if you don't mind picking up some odds and ends at the store. If you're like me, I end up buying new things even though I don't need them. I'm terrible with the buying impulses! Just make sure you have the basic cutting tools, adhesive, and current projects and photos, and you'll be set to have a great time.

MSH-Welcome to Scrapbooking!!!! It's a very fun hobby and in the end you get a great album rather than just a bunch of photos in an album...
Anyway, how I got started was just going to my local scrapbook store (LSS) and looking at some of the papers and embellishments. Many stores have album pages as "ideas" up on the walls. Many LSS also offer classes for beginners. I took a few of those to get me started. Then I found out some local ladies scrapbook and I got ideas from them, too. There's a thread here on CC that you could get ideas from. One of my fave sites for ideas is www.twopeasinabucket.com
As far as must have tools, I would say a good 12" cutter (I use Fiskars), a good pair of sharp scissors (I use Cutter Bee) and some adhesive. The kind you'd use most are the "photo mounting squares". You can use them for alot more than photos (paper, letters, etc). And then any kind of paper and stickers or whatever you want to use to "embellish" your pages!!!

Oh and ITA with what tgr68 said. Try not to be a perfectionist! I know it's hard...I look back at a few of the first pages I did and think. What the heck was I thinking?!?! I've come a long way in 3 years, but I would NEVER go back and redo them. That's just the way it was back then. That's a rule of thumb, too. Don't go back and redo, otherwise, you'll never keep up or get finished with anything!!!!

I do have some Plum MM snaps and some Plum velvet ribbon *I forget the manufacturer*.
Does anyone know of other Plum embelishments and where I can find them?
endymion411, I just bought a Quickutz hand tool off ebay ($37 including shipping). I have been wanting one for awhile but thought it was kinda expensive and wasn't sure how much use I'd get out of it. I need to buy some dies now but don't know what I want to get yet. hmmm ruby, that's a good question. I've never had any luck finding discontinued paper though. I called around my area to all the art and scrapping stores for advice and they said to look for something similar in this season. My only advice would be too look it up on ebay. I'm assuming you're going to need more than one sheet since you're using these for invites (you'll need to create 1 to test and 1 to print and you may need a few more in case you make a mistake.) Good luck though and I hope you're able to find it!!!

I use the tweezers ALL the time. Never remembered the wire tool was in there, but now that I do, I'll use it. The eyelet setter is great, but loud. I tend to use the silent setter for making the holes and use the setter from the MM kit to set the eyelets.

Kellijo14- what an AMAZING gift from your hubby!!! What a beautiful cabinet! You're very lucky--I think my FH just puts up with my scrapping ;).
I have this set, but use my silent setter way more often. I find the tweezer helpful, but wished I would've just purchased the silent setter and bought the tweezer seperatly. I hate using the hammer- it's so disruptive! Occasionally I'll bust it out thought and hammer away at something, but again, I would recommend the silent setter by Making Memories.

My scrapbooking group doesn't even allow hammer-type setters in the room. If people want to hammer, they have to leave the room because it is sooo distracting (and irritating if they do it long enough). I'd definitely consider the silent setter.

At the Great American Scrapbook Convention last june, I saw several spring-type setters which looked really cool. I didn't get to use one myself, but saw them being demonstrated, and they looked a lot better than the silent setter (which is made by Provo Craft, at least the one I have).

It seems kinda cheap....I dunno...

Hey there!
I don't know much about the one that you posted, since I have the Making Memories one. Here is the one I have:
http://www.makingmemories.com/images/products/tools/instant_setter/instant_setter_mat_box.jpg
I think it might be a little more expensive, but if you have a coupon it's not s biggie.
I use mine in just about every single page- I have a new found love of brads. Good luck and have fun!!

That's the one I have (the provo craft silent setter), and it won't set MM eyelets. It's just not strong enough.

I'll 2nd this setter. I really like it. I think it's $20-$25 but if you get your 40% coupon for Michael's it's not so bad.

Hey there Amanda.... I do have that...and although it does the job, quite nicely.... it's very loud... all the hammering... If I could make a suggestion I would suggest the Silent Setter... I love it.. all's you do is twist... But you do need some upper arm strength. http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6df29b3127cce96266afcd0cd00000015108AbsnDdm3cN3
It's not loud at all.. and when the lit' kiddies are sleeping... you can do some scrapping...
Hope this can help you.

Thanks everyone! I tried to find the Makin Memories one on ebay and couldn't find it.
OH WAIT - I was searching for Makin Memories Silent Setter, but I guess it's called Makin Memories Instant Setter. :o
Thanks to everyone for your input! I really appreciate you guys answering all my silly questions!!:p I would just hate to buy something cheap or unnecessary so it's so nice you guys are here to help me out!!

I third the Making Memories Instant Setter. Yeah, it's louder than the Provo Craft one, but I love how quickly it set the eyelets. I chose it because I'd read in a number of places that the PC one doesn't set all eyelets.

Okay, I went to my first nightly scrapbooking event and I had a ton of fun, but I have a lot of supples now and I need a bag to bring them to and from the site, so anyone have a bag that they adore? Any ideas? TIA!

This is what I have:

Crop in Style XXL in Navy (black shown)
I got it a couple years ago for $150 a local scrapbook store. This website www.save-on-crafts.com has it for only 79.99. Never bought from them, though. I just went there for the pic ;)
I LOVE IT!!! It holds a TON of supplies (although not all of mine :p )

For my beginner tote I purchased the Crop in Style Craf-T Caddy. I love it, but in less than a year I've already out grown it :( . DH is actually begging me to upgrade to the XXL so I don't have stuff laying around everywhere. The Caddy will be great though for traveling to crops so I don't have to lug around all my supplies.
Does anyone have experiance with save-on-crafts.com?? I couldn't find a better deal on the XXL anywhere else so Im just curious.

I currently have a very small tote and am looking to upgrade. I got my small one from Walmart. It has served me well, but I have now outgrown it!
I am considering signing up to be a CM consultant. Are or have any of you worked with CM? How does it work?

I have the Crop-In-Style Navigator tote (also called NaNavigator) and I love it! I was afraid the XXL tote would be too big, and when full, too hard to lift up into the car (I've heard others say that). My Navigator tote fits everything into it, has a million pockets for organizing, and I can lift it into my car with no problem. I highly recommend it!! Plus, I bought it at JoAnn's with one of their 40% off coupons.

I have the crop in style XXL and it's great. I can fit so much in there! I've also ordered from saveoncrafts.com (not the xxl, but some candy making stuff) without problems :)

Crap! Someone keep me away from the tv tomorrow! I've been put in a strict no-spend mode by dh!
For those of you who don't have a room or a desk designated for scrapbooking, where do you keep your supplies? Do you keep them in the scrapbook bags?
Right now, I have all of my stuff in an under-the-bed bin but it's a pain to get in and out when I scrap and I kind of have to work on my bed b/c I can't drag the huge thing downstairs or anything.
I can get the 40% off coupons at michael's and have gift cards there so I am thinking about getting the Crop In Style XXL but only if it will fit most of my stuff. what do you all think?

Most people I know keep their supplies in their totes. It's way too much hassle to unload everything then load it back up every time you go to a crop.

Tgr68: I am a CM consultant and really enjoy it. I mainly signed up to supply supplies for friends and family and to feed my own habit with the consultant discount. So that's a huge reason in itself. Good Luck keep me posted on your progress. Maybe we can share ideas.
DiscoDiva: You are going to have a blast. I went to my first scrapbooking retreat in November in Napa, CA. I am going in again in March and taking my Mom. It was awesome and you will have a blast!!

I know the discussion has been focusing on portable scrapbooking options (I have a crop in style shoulder bag and the larger wheeled tote, but it keeps tipping over - anybody else having that problem?) but I wanted to pop in here and gush about my wonderful husband, who spent the weekend cleaning out our laundry room, and turning my craft corner into something special. Until this weekend, the shelves and desk were covered in all sorts of junk and boxes - he cleaned it out, put up pegboard and all sorts of hooks to keep me organized. He is the LEAST "handyman" type of guy that I know, so for him to get out the power tools and do this was pretty amazing! (I had 911 on speeddial...just in case.... ;) )

Snowzilla - that is awesome! And I love the fact that you have a TV in there!
Has anyone been to a Club Scrap/Club Stamp weekend retreat? They have them near their offices, and the have 'rolling' retreats around the U.S. Plus, they're pretty cheap compared to some. Anyone been or have any info on these?

Snowzilla- BEAUTIFUL!! What an awesome hubby! I LOVE your work area! I'm so excited because my FH and I are moving into our first apartment and he deliberatly chose a larger apartment so I could use our "den" as my scrapbook room! I'm looking for ideas since I have a ton of stuff and finally have space and I don't know how to organize it. I love that set up!
Disco- I've never heard of them, so I'm sorry I can't give you any more info. Lemme know what you think though!
There is a "scrapbooking vacation" coming to my area this summer and I REALLY want to go. I don't have any scrapbooking partners here though, and I'd hate to go alone, so I may not make it.
I've been so caught up with moving and our wedding that I havn't had much time to scrap, so I am making some this weekend :). FH is working, so I'll scrap for a few hours each day. I have a TON of pictures that I need to get working on, so it's about time I get off my keester and get it done! :)
Hope everyone is having a good week!! :)

Wow, Snowzilla, your DH is awesome!!! That's incredible!
I just wanted to pop in and tell y'all about my new found love - rub-ons! I'm so in love with these! Mainly the MM letters, they're just terrific. Anyone else as over the moon about these as I am?

Im beginning to use rub-ons more and more lately.
The other day DH walked by while I was working on a page and he asked "How did you print those letters on there??", I told him "Magic!!". I finally broke down and showed him and he thought it was the coolest thing.

This is what I have now (the whole three weeks I have been scrapbooking! :p ) and I love it.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b312/ajzimm82/pinkopen.jpg
I did have this at first, but I took it back and and got the one above. The one I took back has more room for "stuff" but I found I don't really use that "stuff" (pens, markers...don't want to use because I want to do all my journaling with my printer) and I only have like four pairs of "funky" scissors. I like the one I have now because I keep my paper in it, too, where the other one doesnt have room for paper. :)
