The clearish paper holders on top of that card are by Cropper Hopper as well, and I have only gotten them at my local scrapbooking store, they do not sell them at Michaels.
The 1st cart, with lid that I posted, they do, but nothing else which is a little weird.
Good lucking finding them, I love mine. :D

I just got this from Ebay (it was cheaper than our local scrapbook store) and I can't wait to get it! It's a K&Company brand called "Chateau Wedding". I'm going to embellish the cover of it a little bit and put our picture in the center.

I just subscribed! I'm trying to get back into scrapbooking (I've been stamping for the past year and a half). So I re-organized my craft closet and bought a few more organzational pieces last weekend at The Container Store. They had quite a bit of their storeage stuff on sale (and I think they still have the sale going on).
I got a few 12x12 paper storage cases
http://images.containerstore.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/17205/17205.jpg
some translucent boxes for my 8 1/2 x11 paper
http://images.containerstore.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/83906/TransOfficeStorageBoxes_l.jpg
and for my 'work in progress pages' I bough a mesh 14x14 bin and also a bunch of 12x12 clear project envelopes and dividers to keep them organized
http://images.containerstore.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/17526/17526.jpg
http://images.containerstore.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/16977/16977.jpg
The Container store also sells a 12x12 plastic drawer tower, and mdf board 12x12 paper sorters. So if you have one near you I would go check it out for some storage ideas. Or you could order online too.

Also, just wanted to mention that the Target Dollar bins at the front of the store sometimes have scrapbook supplies as well. I didn't see any specific scrapbook stuff today, but I did buy a ton of the plastic accordian file folders (to hold stickers and photos). And they had these great translucent small box pencil cases that I thought would be perfect for storing my markers.
Now with all of this organizing lately I have no reason to not get started on that wedding album (it's only been 3 years!).

Oh and I saw that someone was looking for translucent magazine files. The container store sells those as well:

Great storage buys Lolly! I especially love that plastic drawer tower. Will have to check out that store ASAP. Thanks for the tip.
Love that album Kimberland!

Sorry this is a comment on something a few pages back, but...
I bought my wire racks at Costco. I think there were 8 cubes for about $12. They had silver and white.

They also had a bunch of scissors and the Fiscars paper trimmer.

Wow! So many terrific storage ideas! Right now the only place I have to store anything is in my big flat storage bin under my bed. It stinks though becuase I have a TON of stuff, and I hate it being packed away becuase it's such an ordeal to get it out!
I'll be heading out to Target this weekend, I'm sure I'll be picking some storage things up to get my scrapbook stuff a little more organized!
Thanks for sharing these ideas! I'm ready to get some more scrapbooking done this weekend!

I have a closet in our office/gym that is only shelves, and I took the doors off years ago. My original plan was to build a desk in it like this inside of it and take out our current desk...leaving more room for gym stuff.
Well, I am a member at Curves, and DH rarely uses the gym anymore. So I'm thinking "Why create space when we don't need it?". So after seeing all the GREAT storage bins and crates and boxes everyone has posted, I started thinking...I'm just going to build out the closet as planned but use it for my crafts instead. Once I get all the wedding stuff out of here, we'll have MUCH more space anyway.
So here's what I'm thinking about doing. I thought I'd post it in case anyone else has a spare closet and wants to consider the same. I like it because it has a work area, so I won't have to clog up the kitchen table or drag stuff from room to room.
http://static.bryanbell.com/images/projects/floorsAndOffice/deskBig.jpg
Since I have a lot of shelving in the closet now, it won't cost a lot to get this done, and I can put storage bins underneath just like the picture.

Drooling over all of the storage and organization ideas. That closet looks so cool-I could totally deal with a space like that for scrapbooking!

I think I'm in love. I need a closet like that. I'm going to steal that picture and have DH build me something like that when we get a house. It's got everything - storage and a huge work area! Perfect!
Okay, girls! This weekend I need to get it together and start doing our wedding scrapbook or working more on DS's book. Please motivate me!
Oooh, last night QVC had a 2-hour scrapbook show and I bought my mom's birthday gift. So cute!
http://images-p.qvc.com/is/image/f/47/f10847.004?$moreviewmain$
It holds 48 pictures and comes with papers and embellishments for $19.25 plus shipping. Plus it snaps shut so it's easy for her to take with her when she wants to show him off. Love it!

Okay girl's...I have lurked in here long enough and it is time to post! :D I am not new to scrapbooking, but have not scrapped in years! Well, when I was pregnant with Cole, I was bound to get his ultrasound pictures, my belly pictures, his nursery pictures, and some other pictures scrapped before he arrived so I could continue on with his 1st year book.
Pfttt...that didn't happen and now here he is...17 months old...and I only have 5 pages done! I have been lurking and you girl's have inspired me with you gorgeous pages, so I am bound to get his 1st year book done!! I am on my way...
I went to a local place called the Scrap-N-Station with my SIL last night and I sat there for close to 4 hours and just organized my pictures. This is a job I have been putting off for a long time. Every time I would drag the pictures out at home, I would get side-tracked or I feel guilty not playing with Cole and I wouldn't finish. So, I decided time away from the house and I will accomplish this task...and I did!!!! :D
My goal is to get out of the house and scrap once a week and get at least 2 pages done a week. If I get more done...horray! :) But two a week is my goal! I find if I scrap away from home, I won't get side-tracked and I will get stuff done.
Books I want to do:
First year book for Cole (doing that now)
Alphabet book for Cole (might start on that as soon as I make a dent in the First Year book ;) )
Vacation book (ongoing book)
School book for Cole starting with Preschool through High School (ongoing book)
Sorry for the ramble! I love all your ideas and pages and I look forward to seeing more!!

Mom2Cole, beautiful pages! They look so fancy. I always feel like mine end up looking more playful compared to others. I'm all caught up on Luke's book (until he gets here, of course) and I can post more pages if you're interested-I just don't want to bore anyone. I did 2 pages of the nursery and probably 6 pages of baby shower pages  (I couldn't stop myself) and then I finally called it quits yesterday. :p

My problem is that I hate to scrapbook alone. I like to do it with friends, at crops, or even with strangers! Lately, with the wedding season in full force, I haven't had much time to go to crops, so I am getting no scrapbooking done. :( Maybe if I can get DH to just sit at the table with me, working on his laptop while I scrapbook......?

DiscoDiva~ My problem is that I hate to scrapbook alone.
I have found I feel much the same way. I used to get a LOT more scrapbooking done when my scrapping area was close to the family area, but now that we have moved, and I actually have my own scrapbooking ROOM... Yes, what I always dreamed of, I actually do less scarpbooking.
I swear, I just can't win on that one. Haha. ;)

What if you put on some good music-does that help? I've just gotten back into it after a 2 (?) year break. I just put some good music on, set up at the kitchen table, and go to town. My one problem is that my back KILLS after sitting there so long. Anyone else?

I can't believe that I never found this thread before. I love scrapbooking! I have never been to a class, too afraid to show just how much talent that I am lacking. I really just do it for me. I am trying to finish up my wedding/honeymoon book. I would love to see any ideas that you guys have for wedding pages. I am stuck. I am subscribing!!

These are some pictures of the album I am working on now. I am only sorthing them out by year right now, since it's going to be a pretty bust one! Sorry they are kinda dark and everything--the stupid camera is too complicated! You need a Phd to operate it! Anyway--any feedback would be great!! :)

OMG, everyone's pages look AMAZING!!!
I am becoming an addict, and it's everyone's fault. I went to a scrapbook store that is closing (30% off everything) and WENT.TO.TOWN. I have enough scrapbooking stuff to do at least 412 scrapbooks, no kidding. There is just so much that I need to do before I can actually sit down to scrap. Like going through our million pictures. The ones of the wedding day are already in albums so I can access them quickly, but the ones from us dating, bridal showers, prepping for the wedding (BM's and I doing wedding crafts, Jeff and I selecting cake flavors, etc) are everywhere.
Plus I'm working on a mini-album of wedding pictures for his father. I have over 300 pictures in Shutterfly and another 200 on CD's, so I need to condense them to order prints. GOOD LORD!!!! I might just need to quit my job so I have enough time.
Keep posting layouts, they are great! :)
Must.....stay.....away.....from......Ebay!!!

Leslie, your pages are incredible!
I'm just adding this disclaimer that when I finally start my scrapbook, you might find similar layouts to those posted (just with different colors/pictures of course). How do you all come up with ideas, or do you just play around with the layout for a while and go from there??
I finally started reading two scrapbook mags I bought a few weeks ago. One has a CD with clip art and fonts...WOOHOO!!
I'm bidding on a complete set of the Creative Memories cutting templates, we'll see how that goes. That is the LAST thing I'm going to buy. For now.

When I am doing a layout, I basically pick the pics I want on that page and go from there. I crop where it's needed, and just see what else fits in that space.
I'm looking into getting some more croping tools. I only have my straight cropper, and the squigly line one from CM. Hopefully I can get some more pages done this weekend!!
Kimberland- sounds like that mag is going to be a good one! Be sure to post your pages as soon as you get some done!! I'd like to see some of the stuff you bought as well!

Thanks girls!
What I do...
Usually I get together the pictures I want to go on the page. And then I see if I have stickers that go along with the theme of the pictures. If so, I'll pick my paper to match (either in colors or in theme). If not, then I just kind of wing it on the paper-maybe match the colors to the pictures. How the pictures end up on the paper is always a mystery. lol I just kind of put them down and keep moving them around until they look good to me. I might use stickers to frame them.
Like this:
http://photos21.flickr.com/30389844_fd602de889.jpg?v=0
Or paper cut into strips with my patterned scissors to fit the pictures and glued on top.
Like this:
http://photos21.flickr.com/29307928_2c47879561.jpg?v=0
Or I'll tape the picture on top of paper that I cut with my patterned scissors.
Like this:
http://photos23.flickr.com/30389845_19609c56db.jpg?v=0
I have a ton of scissors, so I try never to use the same ones two pages in a row. lol Sometimes I just cut the paper into shapes and I also have a bag of shortcut shapes that I got from CM-all different solid colored shapes and gingham shapes.
Like this:
http://photos22.flickr.com/30389847_c0582c185b.jpg?v=0
I am a paper ho. lol I save every scrap of paper. I have two of these:
http://www.michaels.com/online/images/product/large/sb0168.jpg
and I keep patterned scraps of paper in one and solid scraps in another. I always look in these first for colors to match whatever page I'm working on. If you looked at all of my scrapbooks, you'd probably see the same paper in each one because I try to use them up. lol
Other storage methods-I have two of these:
http://www.michaels.com/online/images/product/large/sb0165.jpg
(I think this one is small, the ones I have probably hold an 8x10 piece of paper)
I keep all of my stickers in them by theme.
I'm still itching to go to Office Max to buy that storage cart that is on sale, but my husband doesn't want me leaving the house alone so close to my due date.:roll eyes: I'm hoping to get him to take me there on Thursday.

How about if I post some of my scrapbook pages? Here are some from a cruise:
The first page in the album, my 'introduction page'. I made the words "Royal Caribbean" on the computer and melded 2 anchor symbols together to make it look very similar to the real logo. I printed it on vellum, mounted it on cardstock, then made it into a tag shape. The itinerary on the left side was printed on vellum. I used blue thread to accent it:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db20b3127cce9132de43c7e500000016108CYt2Thy3Zq
The first night on deck, and a sample of the newsletter they slipped under the door every morning:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db20b3127cce9132de53c7f500000016108CYt2Thy3Zq
Formal night:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db20b3127cce9132de4246d400000016108CYt2Thy3Zq
Close ups of the journalling box on my Formal Night page. I printed it on vellum, did the word "memories" in light gray and layered the words in black over top. I mounted it all on silver cardstock and tied a black satin ribbon at the top:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db20b3127cce9132de13c7b500000016108CYt2Thy3Zq
To show the ship as well as our room location, I mounted a map that we got from the travel agent over 2-page layout ship paper. I also cut out facts from the cruise brochure such as: where the ship went, the facts such as weight, number of rooms, number of passengers, etc.:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db20b3127cce913c1a19067600000016108CYt2Thy3Zq
I'm about 1/2 way done with my cruise album and I'm happy with it so far!

so glad i found this!!! everyone has such great ideas and layouts....i kinda just stumbled onto scrapbooking and am by no means good - i just look at magazines and try to follow examples and then just do whatever i feel like!
i really dont have much tools since its so costly but i realized that i needed to get a cutter and i got one today.
if any of u have engagement or wedding planning layouts done - i'd love to see them...thats what i want to finish (started it and then got busy wedding planning so never completed it) and i need to do my wedding book.
but i sorta jumped the gun and did the paper gift (a collection of activities from our first year) for our 1yr for dh - my dh LOVED it! its not finished as i need to actually do our anniversary pages but i am working on it!

DiscoDiva- I am in LOVE with your cruise pages! FI and I are going to be going on a Disney Cruise for our honeymoon, and we're really looking forward to it! I was actually picturing in my head what I could do with the pictures. Thank you for posting them--I wont copy them, but they'll be a good tool to use!!
Shaqangel- WOW! You just started?! My first book looked like a kindergardener did it!! Your pages are wonderful! I know some other women had some amazing wedding scrapbook pages on this thread. Take a look back and you should be able to see them.
I'm getting started on a few more pages for the scrapbook I am working on right now actually. I am working on a "Shopping for 'The Dress'" page (from when we were out searching for my wedding dress), and a birthday page (since today is my b-day, and since some of our friends from WI are coming all the way down here to NC to be with me!). I'll get some more pictures on here soon!!
Amazing pages everyone! Thank you for posting them!!

I'm thinking about embellishing the front of our wedding scrapbook, so I'm looking for ideas as well. Here are a few that I have saved (for inspiration).

I have a question about eyelets. I bought a little pack of them (Making Memories brand) and I'm not sure how to use them. Do I need a special tool, or do I just somehow punch them in the paper?
Thanks! :)
Now I feel dumb. :o
emschwar
08-03-2005, 07:07 PM
You'll need an eyelet tool. It punches the hole, and then you use another tool to flatten the back end of the eyelet. Making Memories makes an eyelet setter kit.

08-03-2005, 08:52 PM
Ohhh great, something else to buy! There goes the rent! :)
I got these at Target, and there wasn't a tool next to them so I figured they just got punched in the paper somehow. Thanks for explaining it to me. :) Uh, do they sell the tool at Michaels or would I have better luck at a scrapbook store?

I personally do not embellish or decorate my album covers. I'm afraid that I might mess them up or that the embellishments may fall off over time and I'll have to buy a new cover.
shaqangel: tell your DH I said Hi! ;)
For those who are going to buy/use eyelet setters, for the love of all that is good and holy, will you puh-lease get the 'silent' setters? There's nothing worse that happily enjoying a crop when !BAM! someone starts hammering on her eyelet setters. They got so annoying that my group has a rule that if you do any type of hammering or noisy cropping (outside of corner rounders) that you have to go out in the hallway.

I don't have a problem with the regular eyelet setters, and I consider it a normal part of cropping. We just make sure to warn our table-mates before hammering. There's tons of other noise going on anyways! :)

I went online to look at what the setters look like because I didn't know, and saw some of the silent ones. Now I know why they make them! :) I didn't think about going to group crops and whatnot, but it makes sense to get one that is quiet. Of course the only crop I've been to was a Creative Memories show, so I have very limited experience. :)

I just returned my ProvoCraft Silent Setter. I couldn't get the darn thing to work on any eyelets except theirs and I have too many assorted other eyelets to waste them all now.
Any recommendations for other silent setters?
Also, I saw that www.eyeletoutlet.com now has pre-scored eyelets that you can supposedly set with a pen. The colors and sizes are limited right now, but I think I'm going to try some of those out!

FYI, the Silent Setter won't set MM eyelets. Those eyelets are just too tough for the SS. It does great on the soft metal eyelets, but for the MM eyelets, I have to keep the MM eyelet tool.
One of the scrapbooking magazines (Scrapbooks Etc, maybe?) recently had a review of all the eyelet setters out there. I think they liked the fiskars one. But I'm not 100% on that.
Also, MM is supposed to have a quick setter coming out soon.

Well last night I got ambitious and organized most of my craft things. I still need to go through the junk on my bookshelf and the stuff left over from the wedding, but at least I have the majority of it done.
I have a rolling cart like this one that I bought a few years ago. Except mine has 4 smaller drawers and 3 of the deeper ones.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006O0EE2.16._AA260_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
I also have 5 photo boxes (the nice ones from Michaels) that are holding stickers, pens, knives/scissors, and other scrapbooking stuff. The cart is holding all the rest - except paper because it doesn't fit. I have some of those plastic "folders" that are 12x12, so my paper and cardstock is in there, and I have one for the alphabet and other larger sheet stickers.
I also started going through my wedding pictures. I hope to get another disk of prints developed this weekend so I can start scrapping next week. There is just so much I need to do before then (like clean up the wedding crap that's all over the living room) and I need to get off my butt. :(

Leslie, I saw a website with tons of them when I was researching the eyelet setters, and of course now I can't find it! I'll look for it again in a minute.
Are you going to look at the cart that Office Max has on sale for $19.99? I saw it last night, and the drawers aren't wide enough for 12" paper (total bummer). They might have some other ones that will work though, if you are looking for something to hold paper in.

Also, if hammering eyelets, please warn the people at your table so they can stop journalling! There's nothing worse then journalling when BAM!, you mess up and your pen skips across the page because someone hammered on the table.
My group actually has made it a joke and whenever someone is writing, they yell "journalling!" so everyone knows not to bump their table. It actually gets quite funny! :D

Okay ladies, I need some assistance.
Normally I don't venture into the world of vellum and when it do it is only for backgrounds.
I have some opaque vellum I will be using for some baby shower invitations. The plan is to write the information on the vellum and attach it to a piece of card stock.
Can I use my printer to type the information onto the vellum? It would make my life a whole lot easier if I could.
How true to colors stay on vellum? I wanted to use a deep/dark yellow writing (the mom is using yellow in the room) but I'm thinking it might not be dark enough for the vellum.
Also, I saw that if you use a moist Q-tip, you can create "rough" edges on vellum. Is this accurate? I thought I could get a rough little edge on the bottom of the invitation to add some texture.
TIA for your help!! :D

I print on vellum all the time. You'll want to let it dry for a few minutes before you touch it, because it takes longer to dry than regular paper.
Not sure about the q-tip, never tried that.

Instead of using silent eyelet setters, I use hole punchers. But this technique does not work if you want eyelets in the middle of your page. First I punch a hole with my my 1/16" punch, put in the eyelet, then I use the next punch size up (I think its 1/8"). I place the larger puncher right on top of the eyelet and squeeze. Viola! My eyelets are set without hammering and annoying anyone.

LeslieR, the cart I posted a few pages back from The Container Store, holds 12x12 paper. Plus the drawers are really just the 12x12 clear storage containers (that I bought individually for about $6 each). I didn't need the cart anyway, just the containers.

I print on vellum all the time too. I set the paper type to transparency, and put the ink setting on low (so it puts out the smallest amount of ink possible). It comes out fine, it doesn't take forever to dry, and it is less likely to smudge. I read how to do this in a scrapbook magazine.

cr8zyforaf- first off- let me congratulate you on your upcoming arrival!
I actually did the scrapbook for my cousin when he and his wife had their first baby. I agree--it's hard to know where to start. But what I did was sit down and talk to her about what she wanted her daughter to know about the day she was born/her first year.
It's easy once you really start thinking about giving this to your son or daughter when they are an adult, so they can show their children. Pictures of your belly, pictures of the nursery, family members, anything. I know my cousin was very touched by a HUGE family tree I did for them- so when their daughter starts school and needs to do a family tree project- it's all right there...it also shows her her history (our family is from Italy). My cousin wanted the book to be about our heritage, pictures of her first day, her first bath, and just the candid pictures.
Since your bundle isn't here yet, try doing some mock layouts. Don't glue anything down yet, but take a look at the kind of things you like. It can get a bit overwhelming with all the embelishments out there, but just remember--simple is okay! Sometimes all you need is the pictures to tell the story :).
Congrats again, and if you have any more questions, or want to post some layouts, etc...please do! Have a happy pregnancy--and remember--only a few more weeks to go!!

cr8zyforaf: I've been working on a pregnancy journal for my daughter that's a small scrapbook. I've included weekly belly shots, ultrasounds, and I'll include shower photos. I did it weekly and wrote about the "big" events of the week and our feelings, concerns, and fears. I wrote it to her and one day I plan to give it to her. I just don't know at what age yet!
Here's a few photos... it's simple, but I wanted to concentrate more on the words and feelings then decoration

I'm a posting fool today.
I've got a question - how far can you expand a post-bound album? I've just put in the 3rd set of post extensions in Noah's 1st year album (and I'm nowhere done with his 1st year), and it's starting to get a little difficult to work with. The pages don't lie flat when you look at them. Do I need to break it down into more than 1 album? FTR, it's about 2 inches thick right now. Or is the problem just that I'm using a cheap album from target?

Grrrr. I just typed a MUNDO post and accidentally closed the internet. I hate it when that happens!! Here I go again!
I'm in no way qualified to answer this, but as far as a postbound album, I don't think that the quality of the album has much to do with how much you can expand it. While I don't think that 2" is that much for a scrapbook, I can see how the pages would fan out from embellishments and pictures on the pages. Did you start his book with your pregnancy? If it's getting too hard to manage or isn't laying flat, you could always do one of your pregnancy and start the other with his birth. I'm sure you'll have much more to scrap and journal, so you might even need another one to finish out his first year.
I bought a regular sleeved photo album from Walmart to hold our wedding and honeymoon pictures in so that when I started my scrapbook, it's already organized (somewhat, I went back and pulled out another 100 pictures or so that I want to add). The album said it held 200 pictures, but that was BS. I got 3/4 of the way through the album and it wouldn't shut properly and the pages started to rip. So I had to go back and get another one...now I have one for our wedding and one of our honeymoon. So it's just a thought. Who knew pictures took up so much space?
(I'm going to post this now and repost about CK so I don't close CC again on accident and have to type all this yet again) :) :)

I've found that post bound albums are best when you stop at around 35 pages. I don't know why, but that seems to be the magic number where they still lay flat and hold up well. I've got albums from Target, among other places, and have never had problems, as long as I stick to 35 pages. Also remember that every time you put in a new pack of pages, you should use the post extensions. Every once in a while I have a 'flat' album, without alot of embellishments, and I only put the extensions in every other new pack of pages, but usually every pack is what you need to do.
Post bound albums don't 'fan out' and stick up at one end as long as you use enough post extensions to keep it flat.

As for the CK disk, did you have any problems with the fonts?
I'll just go step by step so I don't confuse myself (or you). :)
I downloaded the program to my C drive. According to the ad that the CD was attached to, there should be 20 fonts, clipart, etc.
Everything was fine with the DL, and I went to open the program. The first window that pops up says Start Up Options and has icons for Alphabets, Creative Clips, Journanettes, Sample Pages, and Print Preview.
When I click on the Alphabets icon, it takes me to a screen where I can type in the wording I want, select a font, and select a color or fill. On the left of this screen has the fonts that I can use. Well, there are only 2 fonts listed (Chunky and Shadow Box) and neither one of them were listed in the 20 that came with the disk.
On a whim I went to Fonts under my Control Panel, and all 20 are in there (their names are like CK_Paris). If I open Microsoft Word, I can use the fonts in a document, so I know they are in the computer. If I have to use them only in Word that's fine, but I was wondering if there was a way to copy them into the CK program so that I can use all the groovy tools they have (shading, placement, etc). How would I do this if it's possible?
It looks like all other aspects of the program are working (clips, journals, etc), but I haven't played around with it yet because I'm trying to figure out the font issue. I've emailed their tech support, but the website said that it could take up to 48 hours for a reply...and well, I'm impatient. :)
So if you can offer any help I'd really appreciate it, but if you can't don't worry about it.
Oh, FWIW, we downloaded the program to my daugthers laptop (newer and faster) and it had the same problem.

Great site, Kim! It's always good to look at other people's pages for inspiration.
I just got done organizing all of my scrapbooking stuff into my new cart and I am IN LOVE! Everything fit in there perfectly with room to spare. The best $45 I've ever spent. ;) The two rows of 8x10 size drawers are perfect-I have one entire drawer just for scissors! And now all of my 8x10 paper and paper books are in one place, too. I feel so organized and now I'm itching to do some scrapbooking! I'm being induced on Sunday/Monday, so not much longer until I have BABY pics to work wtih. Yay! :D

Congrats Leslie! You must be soooo excited about your upcoming baby! They are just popping up all over the place! If you are a member of the August mommies thread, I've been a lurker in Kim's journal since her wedding planning days, and a journal buddy of Michelle's since her planning days also. It's so exciting!
And congrats again about getting organized! Isn't a nice feeling to know exactly where everything is?
Emschwar: Here's the reply I got back from CK's tech support. And man do I feel like an idiot! :)
"I think the problem you are having is confusion between alphabets and fonts. As you noted, there are only a few alphabets included with the CK Creative Clips & Fonts Sampler CD. When the decision was made to focus on the Creative Clips, the alphabets were no longer the focus of the program. The TrueType fonts are included and they are installed on the system during the CD installation. They can be used inside the program in the Creative Clips feature as well as the Journalettes feature. They are also available to use in your other programs like your word processor, etc. On the back of the box it displays the TrueType fonts. It does not mention alphabets. We apologize if this was confusing."
Who whudda thunk it? :) Anyway, do the CK CD's come with other alphabets? I like how you can play with them. Silly me for thinking alphabets were fonts and what not. Whadda I know? Hehehe

The other ck cds have alphabets. I've got the boys one and one of the combo cds. Tons of alphabets. It is cool how you can play with them. I didn't realize there was a distinction between the alphabets and fonts either.

I'm glad you understood the tech support reply because it went right over my head when I read it. lol I have a CK program on my computer, but I never use it-I just type in Word. I didn't know there was such a thing as alphabets-I thought I just had fonts. Now I'm wondering... lol

Got my scrapbook and colored vellum today. I tried to unscrew the posts so I could take a page with me and get refills (something I forgot to order - not all pages are the same size), and I couldn't get the center post to unscrew. The screw turns, but no matter which direction I turn it, it doesn't tighten or loosen. Any suggestions? I don't want to damage it in case I have to return it. I emailed the seller about this but I probably won't hear back from her until Monday. Grrr!
Right now I'm trying to mentally put a page together for our first page. This will be an introduction to what the scrapbook is about...our first meeting & date, dating, engagement, events leading up to the wedding, the wedding and reception, honeymoon, and our lives as a family.
I went through all my scrapbook stuff and organized everything (finally getting around to all the paper and cutouts and embellishments I've purchased these last couple weeks) and I'm sure I have everything I need...and some stuff I don't. I find myself trying to come up with the design of the whole book (including all the pictures) instead of going one page at a time. I frustrate myself. LOL :)
I've cleared out two more boxes out of the living room - the only "project" keeping me from starting my scrapbook. I hope to get it done this weekend. We have plans every weekend starting next weekend until the one after Labor Day, so I won't have too many free weekends for a while. I thought I'd use this weekend to clean, do laundry and organize before we really get swamped again. Thank goodness we have a beach vacation coming up at the end of the month, we'll need it!

Kimberland - I had this same problem with a couple of my albums. Make sure you grab both ends of the screw. When I was unscrewing it and having problems it was because I was twisting the screw and the entire thing was twisting...does that make sense? That would explain why it can twist both ways. Sorry if you can't understand this, let me know and I'll try to think of a better way to explain it.

Thanks so much for the tip! After I read it, my DD and I just worked on it - me with the plyers holding the back of the screw and she with the screwdriver on the other side - and we got it of. WHEW! Guess that means I get to go to Michaels tomorrow to look for more pages. Oh darn!!! ;)

Does anyone know how to do the overlap? And any ideas on the font used for the "While You Dream"?

Emschwar - how do you get the ribbons to stay behind the page?
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. How do I get them to stay on the backside? Hopefully this'll answer it - I adhere all my fibers with Teriffically Tacky Tape.
http://www.scrapbookingparadise.com/images/provocraft/art_accentz/PRO24-3000.jpg
It's incredibly sticky (double sided) and holds down anything! For ribbons and fibers, I cut a piece just longer than my page and stick it where I want the ribbon. Then, I fold the extra edges around the edge of the page. I peel off the backing, stick the ribbon down, and fold it around the edge of the page as well. Does that make sense?

Has anyone decorated the FRONT of your albums? Care to post pics? :)
I recently decorated a Bazzill Album for one of my friend's who's expecting the end of this month. We gave them a baby bouncer and this album for their baby shower. We're soo excited for them! This is their first baby and they don't know yet if it's a boy or girl. They want it to be a surprise.

- "B" is for their last name (since we don't know the baby's name yet.)
I also included a pocket on the inside so that they can write a special message to the baby, and put it there for safe keeping.

Hoping you ladies might be able to give me some advice on a tote to organize all of my "stuff"! Right now I am just using a big rubbermaid container but it is now full and so heavy and cumbersome to move around. I really want to get one of those rolling totes but there are quite a few out there to choose from.
Does anyone have a favourite that they love or one that they would not buy again?
Thanks for your suggestions!

I HIGHLY recommend the NaNavigator! It is more expensive than the rest, but it is so well made, with plenty of pockets and dividers, plus it is slightly larger than the ones you normally get. It holds a lot of stuff and I love mine.
For totes that are a little bit smaller:
1. The Crop Caddy by Generations is good. It is sold at Michael's, so you can use your 40% off coupon to buy it. It doesn't have as much storage pockets and such as the NaNavigator, but it's still good.
2. Also try the tote made by JoAnn's. This is their own 'brand', and it's similar to the Crop Caddy. It's pretty wall made, but still not as much storage pockets. If you sign up on their mailing list, you get 40% off coupons in the mail, and you can use those on the caddy.
I personally have a NaNavigator AND a Crop Caddy. I have so much stuff I need to bring both to crops. I'm very happy with both, but if I had to choose only one, it would be the NaNavigator, hands down!

Just as an FYI- I was in Joann's yesterday and they had thier crop caddy on sale 50% off, so it was $30 rather than $60 normally priced.
Due to our storage space limitations, my cropping stuff is in 3 large totes that I can stack in the corner of a closet when not in use. I drool over the caddies, but just don't have the storage space for things that can't stack. Maybe one day when we have a house.

For those with a Crop In Style XXL tote: are you able to lift it into your car when you go to a crop? Seriously, I thought about getting one, but when my NaNavigator is full (which it always is), it's hard to get in the card because it weighs so much. I can't imagine lifting a XXL tote. My mom lives on her own and isn't very strong, so she purposely bought 2 of the smaller totes, so she can lift them in and out of the car by herself.

Hey everyone!
Yesterday I went to Michaels to spend my birthday gift card, and I ended up buying some great stuff! I bought the Generations "Create A Bag" and I adore it!! I have a TON of supplies, and it fit everything!! I'm so pleased! It's on sale right now for $49.95, and there was a 40% coupon in Sunday's paper.
I also bought the Making Memories Silent Setter (the family didn't like the noise of the hammer---go figure  ) Anyway- it's GREAT! I'm really pleased with it! With very little strength it makes the holes in the paper and sets the eyelets!
Anyway, I just wanted to share that with everyone! I really like my new tote, and I've got some great pictures I'm getting developed so I'm sure I'll be working on scrapbooking this week!

My BM can't remember what brand it was, but she bought it at Michaels. I've looked and looked at every scrapbook/sticker/craft store and can't find them. If I run across them, would you like me to pick some up for you? I don't know what they have on them though.
No way! I've been to HUGE scrapbook stores, conventions, you name it, and have never seen DJ stickers! Yeah, if you find me some, pick them up (under $8 or so). I'll send you a check. If I find any, I'll let you know.

I will try torturing her to find out :) She's a dingbat sometimes, she could have very well bought them at ToysRUs, you know? If I find them I'll let you know. :)

I was home sick today and I got some more scrapbooking done- and I wanted to share with everyone! I bought one of those silent setters and I have been having a lot of fun with it! (I used some silver brads in the corners of the page--I don't know if you can see them or not). Anyway- I had a lot of fun doing them and I just wanted to share :)

Finished the pages for my teacher album today. I ended up with a lot of pics, because this was the first year that kids gave me pictures. Here are all of the pages so far (please excuse blurriness. I'm too lazy to retake today!)
2002-2003, when I taught music:

2003-2004, my first year teaching Language Arts and Reading:

This year. Sorry the first one is so awful! Behind the journaling on the left hand page is where a small pull-out book (which I need to find ribbon for) will be tucked. The pull-out book has the pics from my kids.

DiscoDiva: I talked to my friend. The DJ stickers are ones she made using Clip Art and a sticker maker. She thought I was asking where she got the actual scrapbook from. Sorry for the misinformation!

Great pages, girls!
Well, I went to the class at Joann Fabrics on Sunday, and I somewhat enjoyed it. Although I've only been doing in a month or so, I felt more advanced than this "beginner" class. The teacher herself wondered why I was there. I brought my book, and the teacher showed it to everyone and said how beautiful it was :D I was thrilled!
But I was disappointed because they made us by a scrapbooking supplies kit and a toolkit, and we never used any of it in the class. Some of the women did but I wish I would have known I could have brought my own paper and supplies (which I did anyway). But I wasted $60 on the supplies kit (which came with a discolored scrapbook and supplies which weren't my style) and a toolkit filled with bad quality tools. I'm taking them back tomorrow, so here's to hoping I can get a refund or exchange.
Is anyone else in the Orlando area? There's a scrapbooking expo going on at the Gaylord Palms at the end of the month. I'll try to find the flier I got and post more info later if anyone is interested.

Andrea, great job and kudos for getting the compliments on your book! :) That sucks about having to get the supplies, I hope you can get a refund.
I need to find classes close to home. The scrapbook store near our house is closing, so I'll have to find something else. Figures that when I want to start mine they close the local store. Well, at least I took advantage of the sales!
What sorts of things did you do at the class?

She taught us how to pick colors of pages to go with the pictures, cropping, eyelets and brads (the only thing I didn't know how to do), etc. I didn't pay attention because my corner rounder broke in the middle of class, and I refuse to use the squiggly line scissors to cut pictures. The class was pretty much worthless besides the fact I got tons of compliments ;)

I always have a problem trying to find paper that goes nicely with pictures. I love how some people can really put a page together using bright bold colors without drowning out the photo, KWIM?
Funny you said that about the squiggle scissors...I just bought a whole bucket of them. :) I like using them though, just not very often (more for decor rather than cutting a lot of pictures with them).

Yeah, the only reason I refuse to use those scissors is that I can't seem to line them up right and I end up getting frustrated. I'll eventually have to use another cutting technique because I can't just have round corners on every single picture.
I got the full refund on the kits I returned to Joann Fabrics! So I ended up spending it on new stuff! I bought a tool kit with a hammer and eyelet setter (and some other stuff) with my 40% off coupon from the Sunday paper. I also got some stickers (all stickers were 30% off), cutting mat, some embellishments for my upcoming camping trip, and a new book. The new book is pale pink with a chocolate ribbon and polka dots. It was too cute, so I grabbed it up and I'll be saving it for planning a wedding or pregnancy. So, I'm excited and very motivated to scrapbook! Addictive I tell ya! ;)

I know what you mean about the scissors. It's so hard to keep a straight line, and sometimes they can be difficult to work with. I have two edge cutters coming sometime - hopefully this week - and I can't wait to use them. Actually, I can't wait to stop buying supplies and actually start working on my scrapbook! We're going to be so busy between now and Labor Day that I don't want to get started yet. Plus I still want to get a "couple" things...definately an eyelet setter, vellum, and transparency film. Michaels is having a sale, and there is a 40% coupon for this week. I have to go to Bed Bath and Beyond anyway, so I'll swing by there on Friday - they are right across the street from eachother, how convenient! Then I should be good for a while. I'm still waiting for my cutting templates and fibers to be delivered.
I'll need a binder just to put copies of all the pages I've copied. They are great for ideas when the creative juices come to a stop. :)

Question for everyone: what are your five favorite scrapbooking tools? This may help us try new things!
Mine:
1. Creative Memories cutting system - I'm not a die-hard CM person, but this cutting system is, hands down, the best one available.
2. Terrifically Tacky Tape - this is fantastic for adhering very small items such as ribbon, fibers, beads, etc. It is highly adhesive and works great!
3. My trusty X-acto knife (sp?) - I use this all the time, from trimming bits of paper, to cutting fibers, to applying stickers. I don't use tweezers on stickers: I use the knife.
4. Creative Memories markers - I've tried all the rest, and CM markers really do hold up longer without drying out. They are worth the cost.
5. Corner Rounder - mine is Creative Memories, as I do feel their products tend to be very good quality. I use my rounder on pics, mats, you name it.
edited because I have to add one more.... sorry... :o
6. Creative Memories Personal Trimmer - I use this constantly at crops - like 5 times per page!!! It really is a must buy!

Glad you said that! I am waiting for my cutting system (I bought all the templates at once...OUCH!) and the corner rounders (there is another coming too, I can't remember the design). I'm going to kiss the UPS man when he brings it because I can't wait to get them.
Do you have any of the punches? The kit I'm getting has two, but I'm really thinking about getting the circle and the square ones. I just wonder if that would be a good tool to have or not.

Question for everyone: what are your five favorite scrapbooking tools?
1. Perfect Layers from QVC. I use this with every picture. Well, everyone I mat, which is most of them. Can't live without it.
2. Fiskars paper cutter. Not the cheap one, the purple rotary one.
3. Terifically Tacky tape. What DD said!
4. Mrs Grossmans scissors. The brand doesn't matter, but these have nice fine point, so I can cut detail stuff.
5. MM Tweezers. I use these all the time for picking up stickers and putting them in the right place.

Emschwar, I was thinking about getting the Cutter Bee scissors, since I'd like some new ones. Have you tried those and found the Mrs. Grossman's scissors to be better? How much do they cost?
Honestly, I've had them for years. I have no idea how much they were. I've never tried the cutter bee ones either. I'm no help!

My top 5 tools:
1. MY CM personal trimmer. Yeah, what DD said! :)
2. My large square punch. It's great for trimming photos down to a uniform size when I have a lot to put on a page
3. Photo splits. I don't like the tape runners, but I LOVE the photo squares!
4. My 12-inch Fiskars trimmer. I have the $24.99 (from Michael's) one, and it's perfect for me!
5. Any CM tools I have. Seriously, they do rock.

I have all of the CM punches, except for the new small ones. I love them. I don't use them often, but when I want them, they're great. Plus, I've been able to use them for countless projects for my classroom, so it's a double bonus! :)

1st layout: all about the famous midnight buffet (I modeled this after a layout I saw in Memory Makers magazine):

2.) Cutter Bee Scissors

DD, those layouts are great! I do pockets like that too for my scrapbooks so that people can look at the whole thing rather than just what's not glued to the page. Though thus far, no one who's looked at my scrapbooks has taken anything out of the pockets to look at the stuff inside. :p

Thanks for the comments on my layouts. But, I'll have to admit, I spend waaaaay too much time on them. My average pages takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. I was always interested in going into art for a living and I'm an amateur photographer. So, I have a very critical eye when it comes to my work. I have to to have everything 'just right' before I stick it down. In the time I do 6 layouts, my sister will have done 12 or more!

I'm totally the same way. I keep trying to picture what our first page is going to look like, figuring what I want to put on it. I want it to be a reflection of what the scrapbook holds (dating, engagement, wedding and honeymoon) so I need to piece it all together to where it looks "perfect" to me...then I can start playing. The other pages shouldn't be that hard because they'll have a common theme, instead of trying to put 4 different ones together.

That would work on the smaller items. Things like letters would take up too much of the page if I photo mounted it. And something like your "Save the Date", it's a trifold brochure and there really isn't a way to see the entire thing unless I cut it up. Then again...photo squares might work on that though. Hmmmm. :)

I photo mount large items up to 8 1/2 by 11. I never thought about folding them up..... I agree that invitations are tougher, but I get two or three of them and use one to show the front, one for the middle, one for the last page. And I place them next to each other so it looks like they are one folded out item. Sometimes it goes across two pages. Make sense?

I have a question for you all though... I want to use sand as an accent on a page with just journaling about our beach trip. How would I get it to stick to the page??? I don't want it on the page densely, just to give a little texture here and there. Any ideas?

Discodiva - I think a thread just for layouts is a good idea too. :)
When I got home tonight, I had both boxes from the stuff I won on Ebay. I was so excited to unwrap everything, it was just like Christmas!
I went to Michaels and bought more stuff. They had the Making Memories eyelet setter, so I got that at 40% off. I also got refill pages and more photo boxes...I use the boxes for all my embellishments, scissors, adhesives, etc. and have already used the 5 I've got. I also bought more eyelets but in metal (gold, silver and black I think). I also got some vellum and vellum tape.
Now that I think I have an idea about what to do for our first page, my freakin printer decides it doesn't want to work. WHY??? WHYYYY??
