Okay so we don't even know if it's a boy or girl but we've still been talking about names. Might as well have a little fun right? :p

We both agreed that we really like the name Ryan for a girl. But dad's name is Ryan so I dunno what to think about that. I don't know if we should avoid it completely, use it as a middle name, change the spelling or what?

I found Ryann, Rhyan and Rhian as variations in the spelling. What do you think of one of those? Should I just leave it spelled Ryan? Or should I run very fast in another direction?

I know a gal named Ryan and I think it's cute. When you say "Dad" do you mean YOUR dad, or HER dad? Either way, I think it's a great way to carry on a name. :)

My DHs name is Angelo, as is his father's...his paternal grandmother was Angelina...and that's our future daughter's name. :) Also I knew a Dava in highschool that was named after her father David.

I like the name! But I really think its personal preference about the "family" name thing.
My dad lives nearby and most of my friends know him well. I didn't want to use his name even though it is one that my DH and I both love. But many people specifically choose a name for this reason.

I like Ryan for a girl too! Though I would be less inclined to use it if it were her father's name rather than her grandfather's. I think it gets too confusing if there are two people in the same house w/ the same name. As for the spelling, personally, I shy away from unusual spellings, just because I dont want the kid to be spending the rest of his/her life correcting people. But that's just my opinion, of course!

I went to high school with a girl named Ryan. She was a kick butt athlete, too... field hockey, soccer and softball!!

My SIL's parents combined their names to come up with hers... Patricia + Ronald = Patrona.

One of our friend's ex's name is Ryanne. I always liked her name.

I'd say if it's your dad - name her Ryan, but with a more feminine spelling - I think Ryann is a simple and pretty spelling. I think it would be a great way to honor your father, and changing the spelling will help distiguish it as a girl's name (I think spelling it Ryan is fine, but since that's how your dad's name is spelled, perhaps your daughter's name should be spelled differently).

If Ryan is your DH's name (I couldn't tell from your post), I'd say skip it for your DD's name. It's too confusing to have two people with the same name in the house, and Ryan is not a name with easy nicknames.

Ryan would also make a great middle name for a girl.

Let me clarify, Ryan is the baby's dad's name. But we aren't married and I doubt we will be living together. I mean you never know I guess, but as of now that isn't the plan. He will be involved though.

I'd go with something other than Ryan, since it's her dad's name. I grew up with Big Sang & Little Sang (they were actually brothers a year apart with different middle names), Big John & Little John, and Bob & Bobbie. If you wanted to use it as her middle name, that would be cool... but she'll be spending time with her dad and his family too... I'd try to avoid name duplication. Although, if you named her Ryan and something like Jessica, and then called her RJ... that would be okay. (As if you need my permission... LOL)
