Silly question but...

Our house has vinyl siding. Some time over the summer, during a wind storm, something must've crashed into our siding. There's now a small (say, 4 inches wide) hole in one piece of the siding.

We've been meaning to fix it, but don't know how. Now that we (just today!) are getting snow, we need to get on it. We have extra siding in the garage. Can we just pull the damages piece of siding off and replace it, or are all the pieces "connected" (i.e., if we want to take out one piece, we have to take out all the ones above (or below) it to get to the damaged piece?

I'm sorry to say that to "do it right" you're going to have to take off all the siding above it. At least that's my understanding from my H who is far more knowledgable on these things than me...and that's how they had to repair the side of our townhome when we melted some siding with our grill. :o

Damn. That's what I was afraid of. Thank you!

(And I am giggling at the melting of the siding thanks to the grill bit, too. :D )
