This might belong somewhere else, but I thought it might get more exposure here. DH and I were invited to a wedding in Idaho in November, only I have never been there, so I am lost as to what airport I need to look for, what cities I should be looking for regarding car rentals, etc. Are there any Idaho natives here that can help?? If it helps, the cities that the events are located in are Rockland and Salmon. Are they close to each other?? Are they far apart?? I am totally clueless. Please help! LOL  :o

My parents live in Idaho--Boise actually. I think Boise is the only major airport in the state.

Doh!! Of course....what is going on is that they are having 2 open houses, one on Friday in Rockland, and one on Saturday in Salmon,so we were trying to figure out if we needed/supposed to go to both or what the deal was...hmmm, perhaps we'll just do the Saturday one?? I've really got a lot of figuring out to do here. LOL
Thanks for the help ladies!

I was thinking of flying in and out of SLC because then we could hit some church sites too! Get more for my money and I believe that Rockland is not too far from the UT border anyway. Trust me, if I wouldn't have received the invite, I never would have heard of either place, I think Rockland has as of the 2000 census a population of like 316 or something! LOL But I know that it's somewhere south of American Falls, I believe about 45 miles north of the Utah border near Sawtooth forest or something like that.

Yeah an Idaho question!!!!
Boise would be the best to fly in to for Rockland (I'm surprised Rockland has enough people to have a wedding:rolleyes: ) However there is a airport in Pocatello which would be closer. Though more than likley you'll change to a smaller (not puddle jumper) in Boise anyway. Boise would be the best airport for Salmon. However from Boise you go different directions to reach them.(One is up in the mountains northwest of Boise and the other is more or less west) If you go to Rockland don't blink cuz you'll miss it.
I just talked to my DH who has lived in ID all his life. He says if you are open to smaller airports Idaho Falls would be the best for both locations. Salmon would be about 2 -2 1/2 hours away and Rockland would be about an hour away. One caution Salmon like I said is in the mountains and November could be nasty getting there (from any airport.) If you need any info on Idaho Falls let me know:D

Thanks BC!! I think we are leaning towards the Rockland because that is the Groom's(the only person we know-we met him on his mission! LOL) family's open house. We're still trying to decide if we can swing it or not. Perhaps we'll just send a gift and try to go out next summer or something when we can stay longer than a day or so, because it's really hard to justify spending $700+ for just the weekend, ya know?? I mean, we totally love the guy, but still, all that traveling with 2 kids under 3??? Not sounding so fun! LOL

I totally understand the expense thing (see my most recent post in the CC R.S. thread:D ) Idaho is much nicer in the summer;) If you have more than a few days I would totally say fly into SLC and do church things. Rent a car and come to ID(maybe we can do lunch or something) Visit Jackson Hole, WY and/or West Yellowstone. All totally doablein a week/10 day period.
Again though if you decide to come let me know if I can help at all,

DH has to go to Boise for a 3 day business trip, and I am trying to decide if I would rather stay home alone with DS or we all go together as a family.
Anyone travelled to Boise? What is there to do for a woman with a baby in a sling?

DH is from Boise originally and we were there in Nov. 2004... from what I remember, the downtown area is very walkable with some cute stores and restaurants (I particularly remember a nice store with kitchen stuff). It's very small, but then again I am more used to cities like Boston or DC. The state capital is right there and you can go in and walk around the lobby. A little outside the downtown there are some shopping malls, but they had all the usual stuff that you can get anywhere. Will you have car access? If so, you can drive up Bogus Basin- there is skiing up there in the winter, but in the summer I bet you can walk around and you'd have a pretty amazing view if the weather is good.
I'm not sure you would find 3 days worth of stuff to do unless you were willing to drive outside the city a bit, or if there is a festival going on (I believe they do have some during the summer, any Idaho tourism web site would have that info). If you do decide to go, I can ask DH for some more suggestions.

Boise has a cute downtown with lots of little shops. They also have a mall and the Boise Factory Outlets. They have a zoo too and a Discovery Center which is free for kids under the age of 2. There is also Boise State University and you can walk around that. They also have this train city tour which is kind of cheesey but also fun.
When are you going? If you go during the summer then they have many festivals going on. During the winter is another story.
