The boy got sprayed last night.

I've had every single window open all night long. Some smell still remails -- what do you use to get rid of the stink?

(He is fine. He happened to go out the back door for his last pee and descended the porch stairs as the skunk rounded a corner. He ran up to hit, grabbed it by the nape of the neck and got a good piece of it.

He's got the good piece of it and he's not letting up. I'm screaming at him "ELVIS! PUT THAT DOWN! NO....LEAVE IT" and he only got the message when the thing let loose and started to spray him.

Emergency vet said get a quart of hydrogen peroxide, a quarter cup of baking soda and a tablespoon of liquid soap to deskunk him. He's fine. His eyes were smarting and he was foaming at the mouth but that's all.

All this at 2:30 in the morning -- I had just gotten in and I figured let him out for his last pee. By the time I ran down to get the stuff to deskunk him and then washed him down, it was well after 3:30 am)

This just happened to us a few weeks ago, it was awful! I have never smelled anything like that in my life!

As for the smell in the house, make sure you remove anything that the boy may have touched...ours ran in and went right to our furry rug, so that's outside now. :D We opened some windows and lit candles and the smell went away in a couple of days. We got used to it though and really only smelled it when we left and came back in.

Good luck--glad the boy is ok!

Yeah, it could have been worse.

Dumb skunk. I'm surprised he didn't take off when he saw the dog -- then again, maybe he got a dose of poison or who knows what.

It's amazing how pets can find trouble!:)

There's a product called Skunk-Off that can be purchased through your vet or at some of the specialty pet "supermarkets". It neutralizes the odor & works wonders!!!! I used it once b/c a female skunk & her litter died under my front porch. The porch is a cement slab, so it was either jack hammer it up or try to neutralize the odor by pumping stuff under the porch. I can't even begin to decribe how awful the stench was. I could taste it on my lips when I woke up in the morning. I tried everything...hydrogen peroxide, tomato juice, & finally Skunk-Off. That was the only product that made a noticeable difference.

Good luck!:)

The smell is out of here -- I had windows open most of Saturday night and all day on Sunday -- but the backyard sure stinks where that skunk let loose. The back door where Elvis was for about 10 seconds before I let him into the kitchen is pretty randy, too.

Oh boy, I just found this thread when I did a search. My dog got sprayed tonight. WTF is a skunk doing out in January in New England?

Poor Blue, he gots sprayed in the face so his eyes and snout were all red. After a call to our vet, we flushed his eyes first and then soaked him thoroughly with a solution made of water, baking soda, and a bit of dishwashing soap. We let that soak in for a while then rinsed it off, then rinsed him in white vinegar and washed him with his regular shampoo. His face still smells a bit but I'm afraid of getting vinegar or peroxide in his eyes!

Of courses, this has to happen at 1 o'clock in the morning!

Hmmm...what ever happened to the good old tomato juice bath? My mother did that for one of our dogs some 20+ years ago. I recall it worked well.
