Charting Our Course to the BFPs
http://www.ripleysorlando.com/images2/fertilitystatues.jpg
The fertility statues are known to work for some who rub them around the time of possible conception.
It is said that the baby is the most potent part of the statue.
So rub away! :D It's worth a shot!
Who we are:
This is a group of women using charting (temperatures, CM, CP, OPK/FM results, or a combination of these) to try to conceive and, along the way, are learning a heckuvalot about their own bodies! Many of us use a software program to keep track of our charts as well as allowing us to share them with each other. The most common ones are FertitlityFriend.com and Ovusoft.com.
Your threadmistresses for this thread are Polkadot and Sabriel!
To our members:
This thread gets very busy at times, so in order to keep things less overwhelming and a bit more organized, we start a new thread each month as well as after 3 BFPs. A link to the new thread is always posted at the end of the current thread to help everyone find their way over. The threadmistress would really appreciate it if everyone would post their updates in Red. That way, if I get a bit behind, it is much quicker to get the thread up-to-date.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Want to join the fun??
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter if you have never charted before or if you’ve been charting to avoid. I am sure you will find lots of help and support in this group.
If you would like to join, CD1 is the time to do it! That way, we can cheer you on
throughout your cycle, rather than 2 days before you test!
Please don't be discouraged by the number of posts in this thread. You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page. Just read through these first couple of posts and post a reply with the following information and we will get you added right away. Of course, none of this info is a must but we like to know a little bit about one another.

Things I Have Learned About TTC
by WC's Sherylb
* TTC is a journey. You will discover things about yourself that you never expected. You will face fears you never thought you had. You will find joy in little things.
* TTC can bring you closer to your DH, or it can pull you apart. If your marriage is not solid, you will find out quickly.
* No one understands exactly what you are feeling at any given moment, but someone can empathize at least a little bit.
* You will experience an emotional roller coaster ride. There will be highs and lows and fast moments and slow. Sometimes you have to wait in a very, very slow moving line. You may not even get the seat you want. It is not always fun, it can be scary, but in the end it is worth it.
* "Just relax" is the last thing in the world you want to hear from someone, but it is OK if you say it about yourself.
* There will be moments when you question your own decision to start TTC. You will wonder if you should wait or if you should just give up. Those are normal. But you will get past those feelings.
* The blue and green turtle likes to pop its head out! You will hear of someone's pregnancy and turn green with envy and blue inside because it isn't you.
* It isn't fair, it isn't easy, and it isn't pretty. But you keep doing it because the reward is worth it.
* You will be your best friend and your worst enemy. Your body will
surprise you and yet disappoint you.
* Some women do get lucky and conceive right away. Others aren't so lucky and have to struggle to get there. Hope you will be in the first category, but prepare yourself to be in the second.
* Once you decide to TTC, there will be babies and pregnant women everywhere! You could swear there is a baby boom going on!
* You will have questions. No one will ever be in exactly your position, so don't be surprised when no one can give you exactly the answer you are looking for. But there are people that can contribute, so don't be afraid to ask!
* Two lines on a pregnancy test is not the end of the struggle. Pregnancy has lots of struggles in and of itself.

- Common TTC abbreviations
This is a list of some of the more common TTC abbreviations. I know as a newcomer to the TTC threads, it can be hard to keep them all straight. I hope these will help, and if anyone has any they would like added, please let me know!
•2WW: "2 week wait" - The approximate time from possible conception to menstruation due date; Pregnancy tests should be taken near the end of the 2WW.
•AF: "Aunt Flo"; Your period; Menstruation
•AFNW: "Aunt Flo Not Wanted"; the day your period is expected to start, but you are hoping it doesn't!
•AO: anovulatory (cycle without ovulation)
•BBs: "boobs"; breasts
•BBL: "be back later"
•BBT: Basal Body Thermometer; This is used to measure your basal body temperature, when you wake up in the morning, after at least 3 hours of sleep, before you start to move around; Use a special BBT thermometer to take your temperature because they measure the small changes in temperature from day to day more accurately than the regular fever thermometers.
•BCP: Birth control pills
•BD'ing: "baby dancing"; baby-making intercourse
•BFN: "Big Fat Neutral" or “Big Fat Negative”; Negative pregnancy test.
•BF'ing: breast-feeding
•BRB: "be right back"
•CD: cycle day; a particular day in your menstrual cycle (example: CD1 is the first day of your period)
•CL: Cover Line; a visual tool used to separate the low (pre-ovulatory) temps from high (post-ovulatory) temps; a coverline is typically based on the temperatures 6 days prior to ovulation.
•CM: cervical mucous; one of the most useful clues your body can give you in predicting your fertility; it can range from dry, creamy, sticky, or (the most fertile) egg white/watery type.
•CF: cervical fluid; same as cervical mucus
•CP: cervical position; an optional, but sometimes really useful, fertility sign; CP will generally be low, firm and closed before and after ovulation, and high, soft and open during your fertile time.
•DD: "dear daughter"
•DH: "dear husband"
•DS: "dear son"
•DPO: Days Past Ovulation; number of days from your post-ovulatory temperature rise. (Example: 1DPO is the day after your ovulation)
•Endo: endometriosis (can be a fertility problem)
•EDC and EDD: estimated date of confinement (antiquated, but still used by physicians) and estimated date of delivery
•EPT: a brand of pregnancy test, or, generic for "early pregnancy test"
•EW or EWCM: egg white cervical mucus; the most fertile quality CM; it is slippery, clear and stretchy, like egg whites; also EWCF
•FAM: Fertility Awareness Method; the method of fertility and/or birth control that correlates the physical changes you experience during your cycle to predict when you are most fertile
•FF: Fertility Friend, an online (free, for basic services) fertility charting site (website); (could also be formula feeding; check context)
•FM: fertility monitor
•FMU: first morning urine
•FP: follicular phase; the phase before ovulation, where the egg matures in the ovaries
•FRED: First Response Early Detection (pregnancy test)
•HCG: human chorionic gonadotropin; the hormone that is present during pregnancy and what the HPT's and blood test measure to determine if you are pregnant
•HTH: "hope that helps"
•HPT: home pregnancy test; a urine pregnancy test you can take at home
•IMHO: "in my humble opinion"
•IMO: "in my opinion"
•IUI: intra-uterine insemination
•IVF: in vitro fertilization
•KU: knocked up
•LH: leutenizing hormone; the LH surge is what is measured by the OPKs; this hormone signals the egg to burst from the ovary
•LP: luteal phase; the phase of your cycle that begins just after ovulation and continues for 10-18 days, ending with the start of your next period; during the LP, your body continues to build up the lining of your uterus, and produce hormones which would support a pregnancy; this is the time when a fertilized egg can implant into the uterine lining
•NFP: Natural Family Planning; similar to FAM, but with abstinence during the fertile period
•O, Oing, Oed: ovulation, ovulating, or ovulated
•OPK: ovulation predictor kit; tests for presence of LH surge that usually precedes ovulation by 12-48 hours; these tests are quite expensive and not always accurate (if you take medication or depending on your age); these are optional when charting with FF, but if your fertility data is not clear it can bring more light and help interpret difficult cases
•OS: Ovusoft; charting software based on TCOYF
•PCOS: polycystic ovarian syndrome (a fertility problem)
•PG: pregnant
•PIAC: pee in a cup
•POAS: pee on a stick
•RE: reproductive endocrinologist
•SA: semen analysis
•SH: "sweet husband"
•SO: "significant other"
•SYS, SYL : See ya soon! or See ya later!
•TCOYF: Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler; a book and website about charting and fertility.
•TMI: "too much information" - There is no such thing when TTC!
•TTA: "trying to avoid"
•TTC: "trying to conceive"
•TTFN: "ta-ta for now"
•TTYL, TTYS: "talk to you later" or "talk to you soon"

Wow! It seems like so many women that were in this thread when I first joined are getting pregnant! I am so happy for them, yet so jealous. Sigh.
Here I sit just waiting to O. I have had EWCM for 11 days in a row now. There is no question as to whether it is actually fertile CM, (TMI alert), because I am so wet that if I do not wear a pantyliner, I get a visible wet spot on my pants. It looks like I have peed myself! Has anyone else ever had fertile CM for this long? I have already stopped drinking green tea and the stuff keeps coming so we keep BD. I need a break!

This is the end of our second month TTC and I am getting BFN from Answer tests and of course did not chart this month thinking I should relax and I have no idea whats going on - my period should arrive today, maybe tommorrow.
Anyone use the early response ANSWER test before?

almostthere Answer Early's do fine in detecting pregnancy early but they, along with First Response Early's (FRER), have developed a bad habit of "disappearing positives" which are really BFNs. Check out the full story at peeonastick.com (http://www.peeonastick.com/issues.html). This site is also very awesome to help pick a brand of HPT. They give reviews and pics of BFPs.

We have decided to begin TTC in Jan 05 so i thought I would get a head start with charting. I bought a basal digital the thermometer. I also bought (and have started reading) "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, MPH. I am wondering why they never taught this in health class. I had no idea that there was so much involved. I can't believe I knew so little about my fertility and I am in the health profession. It is an amazing book.
Anyway even though I have read that you shouldn't start charting till you have TOM i decided to start this morning just to get used to all the "evaluating" techniques. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Is there anything that you wished you had know when you first started charting?
I look forward to getting to know all of you.

COngrats to all who have O'd and good luck to all who are going to be testing.
Welcome Deanna
As for me I am 7DPO and wasn't able to temp on time today because we were out of town for a wedding and I forgot my thermometer. I have NO symptoms whatsoever. CM has cleared up and nothing is going on. I am starting to be very negative about this cycle. I said I was going to test on the 27th when I would be 11DPO but I think I might skip it. I just don't want to see a BFN.

Thanks, Soulmate. DH is actually feeling better so we have a "date" planned for tonight. Funny story about his being sick: he went to buy some cough medicine for himself while I was at work yesterday. When I got home he showed it to me. It was Robitussin! I never even told him about that stuff! He said he was researching stuff on the internet and read that it might help us, so he bought it! So sweet!
ETA: My CM is a LOT more watery today than it has been this cycle. I'm excited that my body seems to be doing what it's supposed to do.

Thanks SO much for all the well-wishes and congratulations. I really really appreciate it. I've graduated myself but I'll still be around. I am so nervous and hesitant about this, because it just doesn't seem real yet. Hopefully I can get into the doc next week and I'll feel better about things. :)
By the way, in case anyone was wondering.... we honestly didn't do anything different this month. As a matter of fact, this was the worst month for us timing-wise because my O was delayed. The only time around O that we BD'd were 2 and 3 days prior. I really did not expect anything to happen at all. God works in mysterious ways I suppose. :)

I have a question. If your LP is normally 14 days, then you will get AF 14 days from the day you o'd right? Your LP never changes, correct? I'm asking this because I o'd earlier this month and I was supposed to be due for AF on the 1st of Nov. I'm getting a little confused here.
jesseybell
10-23-2005, 04:17 PM
dotsie - it is my understanding that your LP can change. "Normal" is 14 days. My doctor on Thursday told me not to worry too much if it isn't 14 days...As I write this I am thinking that I am experiencing cramps, which if I get AF tomorrow then my LP will be 12 days this month.
Sabriel
10-23-2005, 04:45 PM
Dotsie I used to think that your LP should always stay the same, but in my experience it can fluctuate some. My LP has been as long as 14 days and as short as 10 days. Typically, it seems to be 11 or 12 days. Hope that helps!
MichelleRenee Glad your DH is feeling better! Even more so that you can get some BDing in before O!!!
CTs_Punkin Hope your Dr.'s appointment leads you to some answers!

Dotsie- your LP should be generally the same, mine has been 13, 12, and 15 days. I would think anything after the 18 days that FF reccomends is a sure sign....hoep that helps...

Thank you to Sabriel and Polkadot for being our new threadmistresses! I know you will do a wonderful job but I hope it is a post that you don't do for long!
Dotsie--your LP may not be 14 days, it varies from person to person. However long it is for you, it should not vary that much from month to month. That said, mine has been anywhere from 11-15 days but that may be from user-error on my part as I was learning to chart.
Welcome to Deanna and Neenbean! Hope your stay is short and sweet.
Temp dropped .3 degrees today. Not below coverline but lower than it's been for most of my LP. I expect it to go below coverline tomorrow. Home from work tomorrow due to Hurricane Wilma so at least I can be upset on my own. I broke down in tears at dinner last night b/c I really don't think I'm PG this cycle and it just brought back the pain of losing our last pregnancy. DH was completely supportive and said all the right things. I never expected TTC to be so emotional, I never expected to get so upset by people asking me when we were going to start having kids, and I never expected to be so jealous of other's good fortune of getting pregnant quickly (not that I would wish this on anyone--but jealous just the same).
polkadot
10-23-2005, 04:52 PM
Gator- try not tot get too upset...you never know....your temp is not below the coverline and she hasnt shown yet.....DONT GIVE UP:D :D :D

Gator - Big hugs to you! TTC is emotional on a completely different level....it's tiresome, but at the same there's always that little lasting piece of hope each and every month. I completely understand your frustrations- and jealousy.
According to FF I am 8DPO-- I'm not going to call it, because the chances of me getting AF soon is high-- and why waste the energy? But how freakin' excited am I that I seemed to have O'd on my own?!!! :p I feel like calling up my Dr and shouting BOOO-YAAAH to him on the phone. Hee. I'm ho ping for one of two things-- either I'm pregnant (obviously my number #1 choice) or that my LP is longer than it was a couple of months ago...

flygirl - I saw you on another thread.I am so sorry.
AF just arrived a little bit ago. I am disappointed, but since it was my first month, I am not going to dwell on it. Now I need to call the doctor in the morning to schedule my HSG. I am glad there was just talk about LP because mine looked to be 11 days this month. Another month of charting here I come - the practice is good. I didn't temp this morning. I had woken up at 4:30 and turned off my 6:45 alarm because I wouldn't have gotten my 3 hours and I slept until 8:00.
Threadmistress, please change me to 'Waiting to O'
So since I got AF at 7:00 pm, tomorrow is Day 1, right?

10-23-2005, 06:22 PM
So I have another question about LP - I was thinking about this this morning! My past 2 cycles have each had an 8 day LP - if most HPT need about 11 days (or more) to detect a BFP, would that mean that if I go past my 8 days I **should** be preggo? Is it weird that I have such a short LP, or am I am thinking about this correctly?

My past 2 cycles have each had an 8 day LP - if most HPT need about 11 days (or more) to detect a BFP, would that mean that if I go past my 8 days I **should** be preggo? Is it weird that I have such a short LP, or am I am thinking about this correctly?
I will disclaim this as always "I'm no expert"....many of you other girls are far more knowledgable than me about the charting....
BUT, because I was looking into this as well, I'll say that I believe if you go two days longer than YOUR normal LP and still no AF ---- the chances of you being PG are very high. :D

Thank you so much for the response! This is what I thought, too! DH was asking when I would test, and I told him I should know by the end of next week... compared to when people usually test we thought that was rather quick.

Flygirl- so sorry...hugs and prayers to you. You do sound like you have a very positive outlook. I hope you get your BFP again very soon....we are here for you....
Nuhmah- my avg LP is 12 but last month went to 14...it made me crazy....i really thought i would see a BFp...but nope, no such luck....i hope you get your BFp very soon....and about the short LP...i read on FF that if your avg. LP is shorter than 10 days that it could not give the egg enough time to implant....but then again...crazier things have happened...do you have FF VIP....if not let me know and maybe i can research it for you.....Good luck....

thanks... now you tell me. ;) :p I did run off and research some websites... the ideal LP is 14 days long (basically, anything over 10 is desirable). I am hoping that because I have only had a couple of cycles off the pill that things might sort themselves out. My first cycle was 33 days, and then last month was 27. Who knows!?
Apparently, it is a really easy fix (if it truly is a problem), and some doctors even just suggest taking a Vitamin B6 supplement instead of a fertilty drug like Clomid. I will wait and see what happens, and if I have another short LP this cycle I will call my doctor's office. I am just about due for a yearly check-up anyway. :o

Flygirl, I am so sorry. {{{HUGS}}}
Well, DH was feeling well enough to BD tonight. Since he bought me the Robitussin I decided to take some just for the heck of it. I have been a little nauseous since I took it, so I don't think I will take it again unless I have to. I am actually a *little* glad it made me nauseous because I have been waiting to try out some anti-nausea things, like smelling/sucking on peppermint. It worked this time! I had been nauseous for a couple hours.... very slightly nauseous, but enough to annoy me. It went away right away. Hopefully this will be helpful when I have m/s.
Good luck to everyone this week!

Still waiting to O here. We were out of town, so I didn't temp this morning and couldn't take an OPK yesterday. This afternoon's OPK was -, and I am just now starting to get the beginning of fertile CM, so I don't think I have O'd yet. I am not due to O for a few days anyway, so just hanging out and BDing!

8DPO. Last night my bb's were just a teeny bit sore and I had cramping. Not major AF cramping but cramping like I had when I was PG. Trying not to put too much stock in it, I keep thinking that it's probably FPS. I am going to Walmart today and buying some equate and the CBE digital. I'm going to tell my DH to hide them until Thursday morning. I can't wait to test but I'm so scared to test at the same time.
GOod Luck to everyone else!!

My temp went way up this morning, so I re-tested and got a MUCH darker BFP. However, I've had some reddish spotting. No cramping or anything yet, just spotting. I'm going to try to get into the doc today.

klav- a dip at 6 DPO CAN be a good thing. . . for all fairness, it can also be nothing but it could be a nice implantation dip. And holy steady temps, batman.
Dotsie--hope those are RPS!
Lizard- the fact that your temp went way up today is a very good sign. Some spotting in the first trimester is very normal. I would get into the dr. for piece of mind though.

So here's my deal-- I am feeling a little crampy today, but at the same time I feel like my breasts are extremely bruised. They are SUPER swollen (I look like I grew an entire cup size) and (TMI alert) my nipples are gigantic! Wrighty... that sounds good!!
Don't have time to talk right now, but my nurse called me ALREADY with my results (this place is fast).... beta was 107.8 and progesterone was 19.2. Both of those are great. She said because I'm so early, the spotting could have been nothing or maybe residual from implantation. I'm FORCING myself to not worry about it, especially since it's stopped now.
Normally she'd have me back in for a repeat beta on Wednesday, but we're going out of town for DH's uncle's funeral tomorrow through Thursday. I'm supposed to call her Friday and let her know how I'm feeling and if I've had more spotting... she'll do a repeat beta then if necessary.
On that note, I just wanted to CHEER FOR CHARTING because had I not known that I ovulated late this month, I would have been totally confused about not only AF, but also my beta levels because I'd think I was further along than I really am. Charting is such a great thing!!
Have a great day ladies... and I think I can officially drop off some BABYDUST!!!

So I posted a question on the boards at FF, and a few have looked at my chart and are wondering if maybe I O'ed earlier than FF is telling me? Last month I thought I had O'ed, and then it called it a few days later and adjusted my chart. If I am truly O'ing earlier than anticipated I have a "norma" LP. So, I guess it is off to talk to my Dr!

nuhmah- i think i am havin the same prob. FF always calls my O the day after i think i really o'ed. Like if you look at my chart now....i think i oed yesterday but my temp didnt go up enough this morning for FF to recognize it....b/c if i put in four more high temps it makes my O today and not yesterday. I even took an OPk and it was neg today so that really makes me think i oe'd yesterday.
I know i shouldnt complain b/c at least i know i am oing but...i wish it was clear...with a good thermal shift.
hope you get some clear answers in the next few days:confused:

Congrats to all the BFPs!
While I am not actively charting this month, I'm pretty sure I O'ed on day 18th, so I put in some temps to give me the cross hairs there and have been temping since just to get an idea of what's going on. If you are looking at my chart and wondering why it looks so weird, that's why. Timing was good this month so I will be temping for the next week or so to see how it goes. Not going to test until next week or so if AF holds off that long.

Wow - I missed the closing out of the last thread - just stumbled in here. I'm at 10 DPO. One more week 'til testing time! :D
Luteal Phases - Seems like there were a couple questions in here about LPs. My LP fluctuates from 12-16 days. For awhile it was usually 11-12 days and then all of sudden it jumped to 15-16 days. Made for a fun couple of months there were I really thought I might be pg, only to be disappointed. :( Typically, your LP will be about the same every month but if it suddenly goes longer, it isn't necessary a precursor to a BFP. I've also read that LPs less than 10 days aren't long enough for eggs to implant. There are holistic remedies that you can look into to lengthen it, as well as medicines.
Wrighty26

Good to know :) At this point I can take all of the FPS and RPS I can get!

Dotsie
10-24-2005, 04:35 PM
oh yeah, when you're pg your nipples will become very dark and the size of saucers...I"m not kidding. When I was pg with my DS I was positive that I would never had "normal" looking bb's again. They do go back to normal..somewhat. Pregnancy does a number on your body. If you have nice bb's now, remember them like that because they will never look like that again. Especially if you breastfeed.
Polkadot BD BD. Even if you have O'd already. Good Luck in catching that eggie!!! Thanks for looking at my chart and keeping my hopes up :)
katmg thanks for helping me out with the lp thing. My best friend and I are on the exact same cycle and are TTC right now and she was asking me the very same questions that I had. I knew you ladies would have the answers ;)
Bellefior I hope you are successful this month!!
I bought equates and cbe digi today. It's going to be really hard not to test tomorrow with FMU. I'm still having the same crampy feeling before. They're not like AF pains but the pains you get when you're pg and your uterus is stretching. Oh and my nipples are a sore as well. I guess I'll know in a few days.
Good Luck everyone!!!

I feel out of the game with you other 2WWers.
I have no FPS or RPS. At least not that I know of. I marked my chart with cramps a couple days but they were so short, not the hour long things I've heard about implanation pain. Just sharp little pricks a few times here and there.
And that's the best FPS I can muster up!!
I'm probably doomed for a BFN but we'll keep hoping my temp. stays up.

Welcome LindyBug!
I remember the weekend DH and I had "the talk" - it was both scary and exciting. It was totally an OMG moment. :) To make things worse, I was driving, and we were headed to Seattle.
- - - - - - - -
Temps went back up this morning... I have been looking at my charts and wondering if I O'ed back on CD 17 (instead of CD 19). If nothing happens this cycle, we are defenitely seeing the Doc.
Delaney - I don't clean mine, either. Its only me using it, and I put it back in its little case and put it in the nightstand when I am finished.
Welcome linny and lindy!
Lindy--you are SO right that it is exciting and scary at the same time. I don't think that changes even as you continue TTC!
Michelle--I agree that you O'd Sunday, particularly with today's temp. And you DID BD the day of O, so you still have a chance! And YAY for EWCM. I totally understand how exciting that is. I think I posted almost the same thing when I found mine for the first time.
Wrighty--Meant to say this before, but YAY for Oing! And the chart's looking pretty nice! Did the big nips go away? And good for you for deciding on a course of action. Must be empowering!
Dotsie--Fingers crossed for you! Being patient is totally overrated! Sorry for the BFN today, though.
Hula--At least you don't have an overactive imagination like some of us  (myself included!)... And I've read a lot of what shouldaeloped said.
ABirney--Fingers crossed that that truly is an O for you...you deserve it for being so patient over such a LOOOONG cycle.
Delaney--Count me in as another one who never thought about cleaning the therm.
nuhmah--As I have said before, your chart has me TOTALLY perplexed! Let's just hope that however confusing it is, the end result is clearly positive!!

I am confused... FF changed my O date several times this week  Now I am only 3 days past O and we BD'd on O-1... And I spotted today. We aren't supposed to be trying this month, so I am completely freaked. Though we would be psyched. :)
My problem is that I have a hard time temping at the same time every day. With DD waking occasionally, drinking too much water, and DH stealing the covers, I am awake at all different hours, so it throws my temp off... Ugh.
Suggestions?
eta: Welcome Linny and Lindy
neen--I'm seeing all solid dots on your chart...are you not indicating at what time you're taking your temp? I think that would help you to see how much it fluctuates based on circumstances. The you can tweak as necessary to get a more realistic picture. Although your temps look pretty consistent for an irregular sleep pattern!
Yippiee I did not have to call back!!I was going to call back the insurance person who is helping me with the insurance stuff for the FC, but I didn't haave too!!

I've become a freak about increasing my CM this cycle. I've been drinking grapefruit juice, eating baby carrots, taking Robitussin (even though I know that just thins it out)! I've never had EWCM and I even have a hard time saying for sure that I have creamy CM. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm also trying to drink more water, but only after I've done my OPK for the day- a real catch 22!
Oh and congrats to our new threadmistresses!

OK - question for you all -
What symptoms do you have before you O? I haven't O'd in a while and am having symptoms similar to my normal pre-AF???? So Slightly confused if anyone gets headaches (migraines), fatigue, skin breakouts right before they O... granted it would be one of those hindsight sort of things, but thought I would ask??? Just trying to keep some hope in this cycle... I'm on CD29... so it could very well go either way.
Have a Drs appt tomorrow evening, so will know more then, but am obsessing...
SO??/ Any "standard" O symptoms for you??
Thanks,
MMT

Hi girls. I have a question....
I was in NYC with my girlfriends this past weekend for 4 days (F-M). I took an OPK on Sunday afternoon and it was VERY positive. That night at dinner I felt very crampy, similar to AF cramps, which in the past I have assumed to be ovulation cramps. So I was very bummed because I knew I wouldn't see DH until Monday night.
Sunday night we went out and had an excellent Italian dinner and a little too much wine (I was very drunk). When I temped Monday morning my temp was 98.1 (very high post-o temp for me).
All day Monday I experienced the same crampy feeling, took another OPK that was **almost** positive. Still had slight watery CM.
My temp this morning was 97.7 (very low post-o temp for me).
So my question is this (two questions actually)....1) what has been everyone's experience with drinking on their temps? Could the 98.1 be artificailly elevated due solely to the drinking? And 2) is it possible to get a very positive OPK and O only a few hours later? After O, would I still experience an almost positive OPK 14 hours later?
Please help! I am freaking out here!
I have had the same results when drinking the night before my temps go up. as for the O thing a few hrs later I was under the impression it was 24-36 hrs later?

Thanks mkvh and Dotsie. You're right. I had hoped to BD more right before Oing, but it's great if we actually BD'd on my O date. I told mike the same thing... that I thought we had missed our chance. He said "what are you talking about? If we did it on the day you O'd then we did it just right!"
It must be "crazy TTC Michelle" thinking we are off. I guess I just have a picture of what I want my chart to look like and I think that is I can get it looking like that we will get PG. I think my mind sometimes tricks me to believe that my chart is telling my body what to do instead of my body telling the chart what to do. Does that make sense?
Anyways, I am excited to say that I O'd, so hopefully I'll get some red crosshairs tomorrow. I have had some cramping today. Nothing major. Just little twinges here and there that make me wonder what my body is up to. I am also breaking out, which I always do around O time.
jjsanner, according to fertilityfriend.com alcohol does affect your temps, especially if drinking large amounts.
CTs_Punkin, before I O I break out pretty badly. That's the only symptom that I can count on monthly.

jjsanner ~ Drinking will most definitely elevate your temp the next morning! As for the OPK's, the ones I have say you normally ovulate 24-48 hours after a *positive* result. Since your result on Sunday was only almost positive and you got the same result on Monday, I would say your O date is probably today (or possibly could've been late Monday). However, there are other ladies here that are *much* more knowledgable on charting than I am, and they may have a different opinion. :)
ETA ~ Welcome Lindy and Linny!
CT's Punkin ~ Sorry, no consistent O symptoms here (I've only O'd twice since being off BCP ;))
Oh, and I don't clean my therm regularly either, but I do on occassion when I think about it.

jjsanner~If I remember correctly, some OPKs have different sensitivity levels. For instance, a +OPK on one brand might mean you would O in 12-24 hours, whereas a +OPK on another brand might indicate O will occur in 24-36 hours. Look at the instructions that came with your box and see what they say. And alcohol does affect temps. :)
klav~That is wonderful news!!:D
Welcome linny and lindy!!
Well...CD19 here and apparently nowhere near Oing. I don't know what is going on. I had a little watery CM a couple of days ago and then it dried up. Completely. I continue to get - OPKs and temps are still really low. During my normal (rather, normal for me) cycles, I O around CD19 or 20 and that obviously will not be happening this cycle. I am trying not to get bummed. I have really been good so far this cycle about not stressing. In fact, there have been a couple of days when I forgot to do an OPK and DH had to remind me to do it. We have been out of town a lot lately on the weekends and while it was fun, not stressful for me, maybe it was stressful on my body and that is why I am delayed? Who knows...
ETA: cat lover, maybe I should borrow your sig phrase. My body apparently isn't liking me right now. ;)

Thanks for the input mkvh. Sometimes I don't even remember when I took my temp as I do it right before I get up- as in to run to the bathroom or go get DD.... I will try to pay more attention. Often it is at 3 or 6 or 7... Or sometime in between. No very helpful, I know.
I know in the past drinking definitely elevated my temps!
For pre-O symptoms, I am cranky and tired... That is all I can think of right now. But mostly cranky.

ct's punkinI don't really have O symptoms except for the pains I get when I"m about to O. Sorry.
I feel like AF is about to arrive any minute. I've been feeling this way for the past few hours. Oh I hope this is a good sign. I test with a BFN today. I see that all kinds of people get +'s at 10DPO but I think I'm going to try and resist the urge.

CTs Punkin- I get really tired for a couple of days before I O, I have right side pain a few days before (no matter which side I O on), and I break out. I also have a pretty significant dip on my chart that indicates I will O 4-8 days later.
I'm still hanging out. 14DPO today, BFN tonight. Not sure when to stop taking the progesterone. I'm going to call my dr. tomorrow. It sucks to elongate an unsuccessful cycle. Feeling pretty sad this week so I'm lurking but not really posting. Just feeling sad that I would be 9 weeks pregnant now. . and not being pregnant really sucks. I didn't get a BFP until 15 DPO last time. . . so I might wait a few more days.
Trying to look on the bright side. We are celebrating our first anniversary in a few weeks. I'll be able to go on the rollercoaster at Sea World, I'll be able to drink wine when we go to dinner, I'll be able to fully enjoy the food and wine festival at Epcot. It all sounds good but now I'm going to be 31 (at the very least) when we do have a baby. I so thought this would be easier.

neen--you're welcome! I think noting the time will help. I'm pretty textbook (I've tested the theory) in that my temp changes by .1 per 1/2 hour early or late pretty consistently.
MichelleRenee, Ilovemygeek{/b]--YAY for Oing! Join us in the 2ww...
[b]nuhmah--discarding the late + OPK, I concur. Your chart looks "righter" that way...

Thanks for the warm welcome, ladies!
My temp was up this morning, so I'm pretty sure I O'd yesterday, as expected. (I'll find out for sure in 2 days, I guess.) Unfortunately, DH had a long day at work and was too tired to BD last night. We covered our bases the previous 3 nights though, so hopefully there were still some swimmers around to catch that egg. LOL
Question: Does BD'ing on O+1 really increase your chances? Or is it too late at that point?
gator ~ Sorry about AF. Gotta look on the bright side though... You will be able to partake in the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot! I am jealous. We're heading to Disney World over Thanksgiving. As much as we would LOVE to surprise our parents with some good baby news while we're down there, if we're not preggo this month, at least I'll be able to ride Space Mountain. LOL

If I leave the temp in the on 19th, it tells me that I O'ed on the 19th. I am thinking that I *really* O'ed on the 17th.
I was just playing around with it to see what it would tell me.

Talk me down folks...talk me down. I am really wanting to test tomorrow morning but my temps don't indicate anything different than normal. If anything my temps are a bit lower than normal. I need to wait until Monday to test so that I don't get so bummed about a BFN.
I don't really have any FPS symptoms to speak of...not sure why I'm so obsessed with testing. Maybe I just want to have a reason why my pants don't fit so well today! ;)

Being able to ride the rides at Disney in 2 weeks was definitely the only positive thing about AF this month. I am actually hoping that O holds off to Day 23 like it did this month - that will be the day after we get back from Florida so hopefully vaca BD will help...I don't want it to be Day 14 because that would be before we went to Florida. But itwill NOT prevent me from going on the rides. I can't wait. At 35 I've only been to Disney once!

Hey ladies! I just got back from the doctor's office. She pretty much told me that it's a little early to jump into infertility proceedings (which I already knew she'd say), but she said we should check my hormone levels just to see if everything is normal. I took my charts in and she looked them over and said that it was somewhat abnormal for the cycles to be as sporadic as they are (duh!), and said that if my hormone levels come back all messed up then we would go from there. The lab was just down the hall from her office, so they took my blood and that was it.
So no real progress, but at least I'll know in a couple days if my hormones are jacked up or not. I'm not too depressed about it though. Since I FINALLY started a new cycle, I'm really praying that this will be "the one" and we won't have to worry about it. :D I guess we'll know for sure in another 2 weeks or so...crossing my fingers for an eggie to pop out!
katmg ~ Have DH hide your tests until Monday. :D That's about the best I can do to talk you down!
lindybug ~ No idea on the O+1, but it can't hurt!
nuhmah ~ I agree with Mystikal that you O'd CD19. Just my opinion though!
Mystikal and Soulmate ~ Thanks for the dust!! I'm praying it will do the trick for me this month!
Dotsie ~ Sounds promising! Can't wait to see what tomorrow's test shows...fingers crossed for you!

Lindybug, I found this at www.babyhopes.com:
"Once the ovum is thus released, it is available to a mature sperm for fertilization for 12 to 48 hours before it begins to disintegrate. This is the most fertile period of your cycle and during ovulation your chances of conception are highest."
Also this:
"For women who are trying to get pregnant, it is often advised that they should have intercourse before ovulation. This helps in conception since the sperm from the man are deposited into the cervix and as soon as the ovum is released, it has the opportunity to be fertilized. But this in no means limits the woman's ability to get pregnant after ovulation. In fact her chances of getting pregnant only depend on when she ovulates and how that is timed with intercourse. Considering the fact that the ovum starts to disintegrate 12 to 48 hours, there is a possibility that your partner's sperm can fertilize the egg up to two days after you ovulate. Keep in mind that the chances of getting pregnant this way dramatically decreases the further away from ovulation you are."
So it looks like I still have a chance this month. YIPPEE!

Just another random question here. It is getting cold in Ohio, and it is our first winter in this apartment so we are still adjusting to our heat. The past couple days it has been really warm in our apartment. Yesterday I noticed Mike had the heat up to 76, so I turned it down to 70. Could adjusting the heat like this affect my temps?
Just wondering...
Also, I had my usual mid-cycle break-out on my face and it was so strange. I have never broken out anywhere but on my forehead but right now I have 3 zits on my chin, 2 on my cheek, 1 by my nose and 1 right by my temple. This is all so new to me...

Current status: 1st pp AF 10/05
My chart look weird but I am positive I already O'd, just not sure of the day  . I think I am about 3 DPO, but I could be anywhere from 2-6 DPO. Any comments are welcome. No cm results for the last few days as I have a YI.
We figure right now that if we get pg again, it's OK, we are ready, but we aren't going out of our way (yet :) ) to do that. So I will just chart around O time to get an idea of when AF will come so I know if I am pg or not :). It took us 6 months last time.
Anyway, if I don't get AF by 11/4 I will test. The last time I got a + on 11 DPO and it was extremely light still.
Very excited to be back and thinking about #2!
About the O+1, I know on the WC we used to have a chart that was from 5 days before to 2 days after O and the chance of conceiving when you BD'd on one of those days. I believe 1 & 2 days before O was the best time. I just wish I could l find it now :( .

I un-discarded my temp on CD 19. According to last months charts, and my predicted date I am supposed to get AF tomorrow. Last month, I saw a dip the day before AF came (and of course, the day of). Welcome purplesunshine
This is a great place with really informed women. You'll learn a lot. I sure did. You are starting at a perfect time to chart. You don't normally have to temp during AF but I do because I don't want to get out of habit. First off I would buy a BD thermometer (one with a light) and then sign up for www.fertilityfriend.com or ovusoft. FF is free (VIP trial membership is I believe 2 weeks). Pick out a consistent time that you wake in the morning. As soon as you wake up without getting out of bed or moving too much take your temp and write it down on a pad if you plan on going back to sleep :)
Good Luck.
