View Full Version : Non-liquid foundation for oily skin?

I'm looking for a new foundation. I have pretty oily skin, and I'm extremely fair. Right now I'm using MAC Studio Fix powder foundation, which is fine, but not great. I like that MAC makes a foundation light enough for my skin tone, but I'm not crazy about how powdery-matte it makes my skin look.
I used to use a Prescriptives foundation -- can't remember the name, but it was cream-to-powder in a stick form. I really, really liked it, but I'd go through a stick in three months, and I couldn't hack the $35 price tag (yeah, I'm kinda cheap). I hated to give it up, though, because I used to get compliments on my skin all the time when I was using it.
So if you're fair-skinned and pretty oily, and you use a non-liquid foundation, would you mind sharing?

I love Neutrogena's Skin Clearing liquid foundation, and I think they have a good color range. I'm pretty fair too, but I'm not even the lightest color they have (I use softest gold). I know they also make compact foundations, if you absolutely must stay away from liquid.

I used to use Mac as well. I have very oily skin and found that I had to blot alot during the day when I used it. Recently, I was at Sephora trying Bare Escentuals (which is horrible on me!) and the sales lady turned me on to Smashbox product line. I am hooked for life! It's a perfect match for my skin tone (honey colored with orange/red tones) and is more light than Studiofix. What also seems to help me is the Photo Finisher that I use underneath the foundation.

I usually use the lightest color foundation in a range, and I have combination skin (oily on nose and chin, but dry on cheeks and forehead). Right now I'm using Philosophy's Complete Me. It's very similar to the Bare Minerals, I think, as it's mineral makeup. I love how quickly I can apply it, but I do have to use some powder or blotting sheets during the day on my nose. I have tried several primers, but I haven't found anything I thought worked really well.
I used to try to use the cream to powder foundations (in compact form) but I always found that they were too dark or orange (compared to liquid). I know there's several less expensive stick foundations out there. Have you tried L'oreal Quik Stik? I think it's a cream to powder foundation that sounds similar to the Prescriptives,

I love Bare Minerals (http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml;jsessionid=TC32TCOKK4ROBLAUC JABXCQ?categoryId=&brandId=5737&SectionID=&x=18&y=5) powder foundation and Mineral Veil. You can mix the Fair foundation with Mineral Veil if it is too dark for you, but I am very fair and it works for me. I'm not as fair as, say, a redhead with freckles, though. :)

I have very fair skin and am also very oily, and I also swear by Bare Minerals. I have had many compliments on my skin that I had never received before, and it looks as if I am wearing no foundation at all.
Some people say it is pricey ($25), but mine has lasted me a year. I would suggest having it applied by a BE artist the first time so you can learn the "technique" of applying and making the most of it though. :)
Good luck!

What also seems to help me is the Photo Finisher that I use underneath the foundation.I love this stuff! It makes my Studio Fix look more natural. I have oily skin, and the combo evens my skin out, and stays on all day. I don't look fake, I've gotten compliments on my "beautiful skin" with the combo. What a shock, I couldn't believe they were talking to me!

I am neither fair-skinned or super oily - but I am a makeup artist! I am with the rest and say go for Bare Minerals. Stick foundation is for FULL coverage - do you need full coverage (are you on TV or have terrible skin)? I also have to agree with the above posters who suggested Smashbox Photo Finish Primer - it's a makeup artist's best friend!

No, I really don't need full coverage. In fact, I prefer a lighter coverage. When I was using the stick foundation by Prescriptives, I used a pretty light hand.
When I say I have fair skin, I mean it is fair. Like, I use the lightest shade MAC offers. The chick at the MAC counter wouldn't believe me when I told her I needed the lightest shade, and she was shocked when it turned out it worked perfectly on my skin. So would Bare Minerals be light enough for my skin?
I'm in the New Orleans area, so places to purchase Bare Minerals are pretty nonexistent right now. Think I'd do okay ordering online?
Thanks so much for the feedback, y'all.

I am very fair (as in, my wrists occasionally glow under black lights ;) ) with combination skin, and I use BareMineral's Fairly Light. It's a little pricey, but a little goes a long way. I've been using my beginner's kit for at least four months now, and I'm only half way through the foundation.
I have to second all the Bare Minerals suggestions. I, too, am fair with pretty oily skin, and I swear by Bare Minerals. My skin's never looked better.
I also agree with Photo Finish by Smashbox -- that's stuff's amazing!

Me too. I used the lightest foundation MAC offered. With that being said, I use B.M. #1 Fair, and like I said before, it looks as if I am wearing no foundation. Here is a link I found : http://www.dermstore.com/product_bareMinerals+Foundation_2040.htm
Good luck!
