View Full Version : How Many Moms Here Got PG with BCP?

Just curious as to how many moms here got pregnant while using some sort of protection, esp. birth control pills.

I miss a pill maybe every couple months, and sometimes have a couple hours time difference. Usually I don't worry *too* much, because you hear all these stories about it taking months and months after going off bcp to get pg. However, I just thought I'd take an informal survey!

Thanks!!

Me me! Both times!!! I was pretty good about taking them, but I was never aware that they were supposed to be at the same time everyday until I got pg with #2!

Raising her hand over here. I was pretty shocked to find out I was pg to say the least. And now I have been off bcp for 16 months and can't seem to get pg to save me life... :(

Yep, my 13 year old is the product of the failure of the Today Sponge. It was gone for a good many years, and I think that it's back now. My suggestion - don't use it. When I was using it, they changed the spermicide formula in it, and I broke out horribly... NOT a place where you want to have rashes, inside and out!! I had to stop using it and couldn't have relations for weeks. Of course, by then I was pregnant.

I did. I think I screwed up taking my pill during the week that we were in London, I couldn't hack the time change. Lame, right?

At least it was a good surprise. :)

I did with my last child. I was just 2 month post-partum from having son #1. Struggling with BF and my body was just messed up. To say the least, when son #1 was 3 months old, I got pregnant. But didn't really know until I was 24 weeks. I was lucky there were no adverse effects of the pill on my son.

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and got pregnant while also on a medication to treat a kidney infection....didn't think it would make the BCP that much less effective!!

I got pg on the pill with (I am pretty sure) perfect use. I always took it at the same time, using an alarm clock, never missed a dose, didn't drink while using it, didn't take abx, etc. Just failed to work on me, I guess.

I got pregnant on the pill. I was unaware that the pills effective rates go down if you weigh over 150 pounds. I also was under the impression that my mal absorbtion issues after weight loss surgery was not an issue after 2 year.. wrong again I think those two factors push my pill use to void and I too didn't find out that I was pregnant until very late in the pregnancy < my gyno actually switch my BCP when I was unknowningly 17 weeks > My son has no adverse affects.

It's kinda scary reading all of these posts...I depend so much on my BCP!

 Yipes. I didn't realize that there were so many!! For those of you on BCP, did you still get a period when you were supposed to, due to the hormones in the pill? Is that why you didn't realize you were pg until you were pretty far along?

I had a friend who got pg this way a month ago, and thought I'd better find out how often "oopsies" occured while on the pill!!

Thanks so far to those who've replied!

I got pregnant with both of mine while on BCP - never missed a pill, always took at the same time every night, was not on antibiotics (or any other med).

With my first I didn't know until I was between 12-14 weeks because I had a regular period every month (due to the pills I assume).

With my second I didn't have ANY periods for 5 months after #1 - come to find out I was 2 1/2 months along with #2.

ME! I got pregnant this time while on the mini-pill and breastfeeding. I took it religiously every morning within one hour - no exceptions! I was not having regular periods, more like bi-monthy spotting. Needless to say, DH is getting the big snip, snip early next year :D

No, I missed the first period after I got pregnant- I knew I was pg at 5 weeks, then, I suppose.

So scary. I guess that at this point if it happens it was meant to be. Jack will just be a big brother sooner than we were planning. I am still going to keep my fingers crossed that BCP do their job.

I don't think it's so much the BCP as it is your own bodies chemical make up. if it has worked for you consistently for a long time, you are probably good....

Ok, so this seems as good a thread as any to have my freak out!
I went back on Ortho Micronor in April. It had been so long since it 'mattered' when it showed up, that I stopped paying attention. I'm pretty sure I was about in the middle of my cycle when I started back on it. My cycle has been showing up at a different time in the pill pack every month since then. I am pretty sure based on the way it's been showing up that I'm not late yet. But I can't help feeling it should have reset to my pill schedule by now (when I was on the patch, this happened within about 2 months)......but until a week ago Thursday, I hadn't, uh, put my pill to the test. Was being extra careful. That night, I saw my ex for the first time in several months, and, uh, well, I really missed him. :o And the next day I dumped the other guy I had been seeing. Since then, ex and I have decided to slow down a LOT, take time to get over our other stuff, and be friends again. But I have NOT felt right since that night- among other things, a constant feeling like I'm going to throw up any second if I try to eat- even though I have yet to get sick. But I also haven't really managed to eat a full meal in that time, either. And I have been having other...uh, stomach problems.
So tell me, am I showing the signs of a classic on the pill ooopsie, or just overly paranoid? How long should I wait to get a fully accurate test?

Somebody, anybody? I need to know exactly how much I should be freaking out at the moment.......

Ok, that's it. Gonna have to test tonight. Can't take this anymore!
But, will I get a false negative? Is it possible it's still too early?

maxandmolly--Did you test? I hope it all worked out well!

Not yet. I may give in and buy a 2-pack tonight, one for in the morning, one for Thursday (the actual two week day). This is driving me absolutely crazy.

So I did this search, and now I'm kind of thinking about this.....this is my first month back on the pill in years---and I'm 3 months p.p.......according to the pack I am due for my period next week....and my stomach has been very strange this week(days after we DTD for the first time since DS).

So my I have a question......although may be a dumb one....you're not supposed to ovulate while on the pill right?? For some reason I feel like I'm getting ovulation twinges...or somthing...any thoughts? Am I just paranoid?
