Welcome, Jen!

My question today: Does anyone else have a DH who isn't willing to talk about names yet?

I picked out my favorite girl name, and he said that would be fine. Now I'm trying to narrow down the boy names, and he's being no help at all. I went through the baby name books and made a list of about 10 first names and maybe 15 middle names. I asked him to look over the list and at least cross out the ones he hated. Instead, he insisted that I read the list to him  and then said something along the lines of "one of those will probably work."

Um....not helpful!

I know we have "plenty of time" to decide on names, but it would just make me feel... more secure... if we could choose them now.

Welcome, Jen! :D

Shelby, DH isn't as obsessed with names as I am, but he has been willing to mark ones he liked in a book (although I had to nag him to get him all the way through the book). We already have names we both like picked out, and they're basically names we liked 2 years ago, but I still feel this urge to keep looking, just in case there's something better out there.

In other news, I broke down and measured my waist today--it's 4 inches bigger than it was last month! FOUR inches!!! My hips are the same, and my boobs are just one inch bigger. And I haven't gained any weight yet. So I went ahead and ordered a few things from Old Navy, 2 pairs of jeans, a denim skirt, and a top. I want to have them on hand for when I can't get into any of my regular clothes. I've been in sweatpants all week, so that day may already be here--afraid to go check. :p

Names - Well, we have a girl name that we're pretty focused on. It's a little odd though, so I'm kind of hesitant, but honestly I can't think of anything else I'd rather name a girl. I have NO idea on boys names. I hate to say it, but for some reason we're so sure in our head that we're having a girl that boy's names haven't come up. I suppose that when we have our u/s and if it ends up being a boy, we'll start thinking about it. :D

My workplace is having a jeans day today, to raise money for an employee whose house burned down on Thanksgiving day. I have a pair of low-rise Old Navy jeans that have always been big on me, but they fit really well today and are super comfy. I swear that some days I feel skinny, and the next day I feel like everyone must be able to tell that I'm pregnant. I really really need to start taking some belly pictures.

One random thing... I have been craving a Starbucks mocha frappucino since I've been pregnant, so I broke down on Monday and went and got a decaf one. It was HEAVEN!!!! :D

Liz, I agree--boy names are SO much harder.

I'll probably take a new belly shot Friday when I'll be 10 weeks. I had taken one at 5 weeks, but that's not 5 weeks anymore because they changed my date. :p

Names - we have two "whole" girl names (two first and two middle names). They are all family names - my MIL's mother, my father's mother, my great aunt/my middle name, and a variation of a name in my husband's family.

Boys are definitely harder! We have one first and middle boy's name. I like the first name but I'm not too excited about the middle name. My problem is that we both like traditional names, but for boys those old-school names aren't too exciting.

The gir's name we both like the best (my MIL's mother) is probably not going to go over well with my family because they will think it's boring or ugly. I do like my great-grandmother's name (Zada) because it's unusual but still a family name, however my husband vetoed it already. My sister suggested it for my niece but my BIL vetoed it too. Maybe my brother's wife will go for it if they decide to have kids. ;)

QOTD: DH was very reticent to discuss names at first. And still he is not very excited about it. We probably will passively discuss until the big u/s. Although he "tries out" some of our top picks occasionally when talking to the belly.

Fat and Skinny Days: Funny you mentioned that, Liz! I just told DH yesterday that I was having a skinny day. I think it's largely in part to bloating. Ah, the joys of being pg! I need to invest in some jeans a size larger for sure...ON, here I come!

Belly Shots/Growth: Wow, Sophia, I never even thought to do measurements! What a great idea. Guess I'll know for next time. I did a belly shot at 6 weeks and will do another Friday at 10 weeks. Hopefully I will get on the ball a bit more and do them a bit more frequently!

Although he "tries out" some of our top picks occasionally when talking to the belly.

I've been doing that when I'm home alone. I "call out" to the baby, as if it's older and I'm calling him/her from another oom. The boy names just don't sound right.

Last night I was asking DH if my belly was bigger already, and he said "duh," and also last my mom said I was showing already, so I got curious about how much bigger I am in the belly. I don't know if I'll measure regularly. I didn't with DS or DD.

I definitely need to get better about the belly shots.

QOTDwe have them picked out one boy and one girl .. but not the middle name for the girl yet .... not sure what to do?
as for getting bigger.. I don't feel much bigger but I was a bit plump to begin with so I might not be showing as much as you skinny minny's.
but Dh say's my BBare getting bigger.
So I'll give and say the girls name will be Emma I know very common right now but DH loves it just can't find a middle name to go along with it?

mkvh
12-14-2005, 10:42 AM
Ooooh...the name game! I *heart* names in general. I DO love Emma, but it IS common. My DH is stuck on Ellie. Same story. So I'm trying to come up with something uncommon that Ellie can be a nickname for. Then we both win.

As for a middle name, I like family names for middle names. Just a personal preference. Anything you've got in that vein?

How many syllables is your last name? That would help...

emmjay
12-14-2005, 10:49 AM
My friend named her daughter Emma Mary - her mother's name is Emma and her husband's mother was named Mary.

Emma Jane? That was the first thing I thought of, if you have a two-syllable last name. At least you have a while to think of a good middle name!! :)

I'm not showing at all - I haven't gained any weight, but I'm not small to begin with (5'7" and size 12) and I tend to gain weight in my stomach anyway. I am trying to get in a good exercise and eating routine because I don't want to gain a ton (like my aforementioned friend who is 5'1 and gained 65 lbs!!). I want to start a prenatal yoga class next week and I've been swimming and skiing.

Those of you feeling sick--I'm sorry. I hope the light at the tunnel is shining on you soon.

Emmjay--I don't like calling the baby "it" either. This is one case where I don't use pronouns, and just call the baby "the baby".

Jen--Welcome. You and I have the same EDD.

Names--Over the weekend, I asked DH if he had any thoughts and he blurted out "Blythe". This is a joke between us. When we had just delivered DD and were deliberating between the three finalists, the OB suggested "Blythe". Everyone just kind of looked at him. (No offense if anyone likes the name. I think of it as kind of old-fashioned and not a name you ever see used right now.) I have been thinking and like some of the same names we did the first time around, with some new ones that might surprise him. I still have the book where we marked what we each liked, so that might help. Even though boy names are harder, IMO, last time we only had one "finalist" for a boy, and three for a girl. Go figure.

mkvhour last name is Lynch. So she needs a substantail middle name. I like Simone(paternal grandmother) Madeline(Godmother) I don't like Mary no offense but my grandmother, (maternail) went nutz with it maryellen, mary katherine, and of course Peter and Thomas were the names of her children. So for me that is out. can't think of any others... I'll have to relook in my name book

mkvh
12-14-2005, 11:24 AM
Ah, see, I personally like Claire, but it doesn't work AT ALL with your last name.

Emma Simone flows nicely! Especially with your last name! You definitely need 2 syllables. Hmmm....

I personally don't like the M's as close together as Mary would put them, but that's a personal preference.

MMK
12-14-2005, 11:48 AM
Why do you suppose it is that boy names are so much harder to come up with?

emmjay- I love Zada, it's so different and since it's a family name it's not different in that "I'm a movie star and want to give my kid a crazy name" way. No chance of talking dh into it??

shelby: my dh isn't big on talking names either. He has a very efficient type personality so I think for him, it just doesn't make any sense to discuss names until we know the sex. My superstitious nature has actually prevented me from buying name books and really narrowing things down anyway so I haven't really felt the need to push him at all (yet!).

I have been obsessed with finding out all family names (grandparents' parents, maiden names etc...) I really love the idea of using a family name. Of course, my grandma and her mom were both named Eva which I think is GREAT but with Emma and Ella being so popular I'm very hesitant.

Sophia
12-14-2005, 11:55 AM
I think part of the reason boy names are harder is that there are a few basic ones and not so many "stylish" ones, and many of the less used ones get appropriated for girls, and once a name goes girl, it usually doesn't come back to boy. In the past few decades lots of interesting boy names have turned girl. It leaves us with less options.

mkvh
12-14-2005, 12:02 PM
emmjay--I really like Zada too. And I love that it has a family connection. I WISH that we had some neat names, but both families are German, so there are LOTS of yuck names.

MMK--I personally think that the reason that boys names are harder is because, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the name has to fit an infant, a teenager, a corporate executive, and an grandpa. And that's a tall order. Most of the traditional names do that, but they're used so frequently that there's not as much of an individual identity. OTOH, you can "get away with" more with girls because the "macho" factor doesn't play in. Although I put my girls' names to the same test. Which is why I am guilty of turning boys names into girls names (sorry, Sohpia!). For example, Carson is on our short list for GIRLS.... (Hell, I HAVE a 'boys' name, and so do my sister and my niece!)

Hello everyone!

I recently became pregnant through in vitro (our first attempt). I still haven't quite figured out how to calculate how far along I am (since conception was not 'normal' and I can't count from LMP), but I believe I am 8 weeks along in my pregnacy.

My husband and I are obviously really excited, but I am still a bit nervous that I won't stay pregnant. I don't have any reason to suspect the worst, I guess it just seems too good to be true!

So far, I haven't had any serious pregnancy symptoms other than a growing belly, and that I'm tired all the time. (Of course, the lack of symptoms makes me worry more...)

Anyway, I look forward to sharing the next few months with you all!

Stephanie

PS - Can someone tell me how to post sonogram and belly pictures?

I don't think my friend really liked Mary either but her husband's mother passed away unexpectedly about 6 months before their wedding so they wanted to incorporate her name. I really like Emma Simone! Especially since it's a family name.

I keep bringing up Zada, but he doesn't like it. Our last name begins with a W so he says "she'll never get picked first for ANYTHING" - never mind that my great-grandmother's maiden name was Zada Belle WALKER. She managed to live to 96 so obviously her life wasn't ruined by having initials from the end of the alphabet.

mkvh - my husband would love to be in your family! He likes traditional YUCK German names. Every time I say Zada he says "OK then if it's a boy his name will be Heinrich." He is dead serious too.

Welcome, Stephanie! Congratulations! I'm 8 weeks and I don't have many symptoms either, if that makes you feel better. :)

To post your pictures you have to scan them or save them on your computer, then upload them to an online photo site like snapfish or shutterfly. Once it is uploaded, you right-click on the photo and go to Properties. A box will appear and you will see a url address for the photo. You have to copy that. Then in your post, there is an icon of a little yellow box with a mountain in it up at the top. Click on that and paste the photo url into it. Then your photo will post! It sounds more complicated than it is. ;)

Welcome, Stephanie! From everything I've read, with IVF, you deterimine how far along you are by counting from your retrieval date and adding two weeks (the two weeks taking you back to your theoretical last menstral period). FWIW, your due date is 13 days after mine, and I am 9 weeks 5 days today. So you are 7 weeks 6 days (if my preggo brain can do math :D ).

Oh, and BFP stand for Big Fat Positive...we want the date of your first + pregnancy test!

And I have a labbie too! Love 'em!

Hi Ladies! I'm so glad to be catching up - I have been away for almost a week (traveling/sick) and l kept on wondering how everyone was doing. To say the least - l'm slightly addicted to this thread!:o

I had my doctor's appointment on Friday 12/9 and everything looks great! Saw the heart beat and according to the u/s measurement, I was off by 2 days. My new EDD is July 22nd. I actually lost 2 pounds which did not really surprise me. My next appointment is January 10th and I will be 12 weeks. I can't wait to see the picture of the baby.

Emmjay We are EDD twins!!

I'm so glad to hear that everyone has had bad days. I have been feeling pretty miserable with the constant nausea and just not really enjoying pregnancy. Thank goodness I have RL girlfriends who understand and have been helping me feel not so bad for the way l have been feeling.

Names We still haven't discussed names. We had chosen names years ago that l have now forgotten but l think l need this pregnancy to be more real to me before l can start choosing. I think once I am done with the first trimester, l can make more decisions.

TellingHas anyone not told their immediate family? I haven't told my parents - l don't really know why. l love my mom but she drives me insane. She is always worrying and nagging and l feel once l tell her, she is definitely going to be calling me every 2 days which l can't deal with. I have been pretty emotional recently (I was seriously bawling this morning, reading the end of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - for the second time!) and I can see myself getting really annoyed and lashing out. We will tell them on Xmas day - they live outside the country so it will be a phone call.

So far, the people who know are MIL, SIL, Brother and Wife, 2 close couple friends, 2 BFFs and my boss. I think l will tell the rest of work, other friends and my parents by Xmas.

Stephanie Welcome to the group!

Amaye - due date buddies! That's what they'll call us... (just a small Friends reference :) )

Telling: We've told both of our immediate families and no one else (although my FIL and BIL told a few people without permission  ). I am more conflicted about telling my boss. I'm not sure how it will go over so I am thinking I should wait until I *have* to say something. I'm going to tell my oldest friend tonight - we've known each other since we were 5 and she is due in 2 weeks. Everyone else, even my close girl friends, will be in January.

Names We picked out our boy and girl names way before we conceived. It was always one of those "I'm bored what are we going to talk about" topics. I like really weird girl names. One I like is Serin but it is pronounced like Seren gas which is not so good. But I really like it. I also like Zia, but DH nixed that one too. If we have a girl her initials will be KY (also my initials - fun for gag gifts on wedding night ;) ). My defense against the teasing factor is that by the time her classmates are old enough to know what KY is, she'll have a really good comeback or solid self-esteem.

Telling The only people we've told are my boss and supervisor. No one else knows including a relative living with us (who most likely thinks I have an eating disorder right now). We will be telling everyone around Christmas/New Years.

Belly I think I am growing by leaps and bounds this week and have the growing cramps today to prove it. I totally feel like I'm showing but everytime I say that I get really weird "your crazy" looks.

Question Does anyone else have a hard time believing that this will turn into an actual, for real, baby? I don't know if it is because of my hx of m/c or what but I am having a hard time grasping that I will most likely have a for real baby in my arms in July. Now that my belly is really growing I am getting excited and a little freaked out that my time has actually come to get that big ole fat belly and feel life inside of me. Maybe I am just weird.

Does anyone else have a hard time believing that this will turn into an actual, for real, baby?

Absolutely! I'm waiting for the realness to hit me, but I'm starting to think that it is a process rather than an event.

I still need to do some serious catching up around here, however DH and I are both sick :( I am already taking meds (metformin and baby aspririn for pcos) so I really don't want to take anything else even if it is "ok" while pregnant. I started a new job, so I wont be calling in sick and we have quite the buisy weekend. Vicks and saline nose spray are my new best friends. I hope everyone is doing well.

Welcome Stephanie!

Telling

We have told all family members at Thanksgiving. Although I have not yet told anyone here in the office, I just can't do it yet, maybe after I'm in the second trimester I'll feel like telling everyone.

Names

We have discussed it, and have some names picked out. More for a girl than for a boy. We are having trouble with boys names since our last name makes it kind of tricky. We need to buy a book I think...

Soulmate

To answer your question, I too feel that way. I keep thinking that if a have an ultra sound and hear the heartbeat like we are supposed to on December 21 that will change things but maybe not.

I can't say that my belly is growing because it really isn't and might not for a bit since I'm just having trouble eating.

We're basically at the point where we're telling everyone now. Well, not EVERYONE, but we're not keeping it a secret. There are still several of our friends that don't know, because we haven't talked to them lately.

I had a bad night last night, I had heartburn ALL night. I woke up several times to take some Tums but it didn't really help. I'm gonna go out and get some Maalox or something tonight. It was my own fault though, I had a big glass of orange juice about 9 PM. :( Last time I'll do that!!

Today's a skinny day for me, I really don't feel pregnant at all. Tomorrow's our doctor's appt., but not until 4 PM. Can't wait to hear that heartbeat!

Welcome, Stephanie!

Question Does anyone else have a hard time believing that this will turn into an actual, for real, baby?

Most of my nervousness has gone since I saw the baby on the ultrasound--seeing movement, the heart beating, and hearing the heart beating on the Doppler, really made me feel calmer. The baby is a lot more "real" to me now, and I'm reacting to things much more like I did when I was pg with DS and DD.

Names:
I've become obsessive compulsive about finding the "perfect" boy name. I'm very happy with our top girl names (Liliana Cate or Lilia Cate), but I'm very unhappy with our top boy names (Malcolm Lucas or Lucas Malcolm). I love the names themselves, but they don't sound or feel right in relation to my children's names, Alexander Michael and Isabella Faye, and they don't sound good when I say them out load or with our Spanish surname. So we're looking. I'm going to go get a really big, traditional baby name/dictionary type book today.

Lolavix - My new due date buddy! I have a feeling I will go early though. My DD was born at 38w5d - induced because of PIH and mild Preeclampsia - and I joked with my dr the other night that I would really love to schedule an induction this time around since my entire labor - from check in to when she came out - was only 6 hours...so we shall see!

Names - Being that this is our 2nd time around, we are sticking with our original boy names...Aidan and Connor. For a girl, I think we are set on Keira Anne. We plan on finding out though because I need to know if the wallpaper in the spare bedroom needs to come down!

Telling - We plan on telling family over Christmas. I have told a few co-workers, and my best friend, but that is about it.

I am not sure how many in here are RO's - but I feel terrible that I am not as excited with #2 as I was with #1. I know that I am probably still in shock since this was not planned and am hoping that I snap out of it soon!

names ~ We have a girl name picked out, Madeline Rose. (SophiaDP: We love the name Lillian, but it doesn't "go" with our last name unfortunately.) Boy names are much harder. We're temporarily on Elliott, but we're not really sure.

weight ~ I am up about 3 pounds, but that was all gained during our Thanksgiving week-long vacation to Florida. (I gain that much on any vacation!) I haven't lost it though, and am sure I'll only be going up from here. I have had no m/s, no food aversions, just lots of hunger and NO energy to exercise. Definitely no skinny days.

telling ~ We're telling more and more people. I am thinking of putting an update letter in our holiday cards announcing the pregnancy. What do you guys think? Tacky? Too soon? (This is different than the baby signing the card issue discussed earlier, I think.)

I started in on my husband last night about the name Zada. That consists of me saying "Zada Zada Zada Zada Zada Zada - COME ON!!! - Zada Zada Zada Zada" over and over again. I'm trying to wear him down by annoying the living daylights out of him until he agrees. :p Actually I almost got him to agree to Zada as a middle name and then he said, "Wait - you'll just CALL her Zada! You're trying to trump me with a so-called 'middle name' - NO!"

Oh well, I have 7 more months to break him. :D

The thing is, the more I hear "Zada", the more I love it! I do like the other names we picked too, but I like this one the best.

I also have a hard time believing this will be a real baby. It does seem more real after seeing the ultrasound/heartbeat, but it's still kind of surreal.

I too have a hard time believing that this is real...but I haven't seen or heard ANYTHING yet (and won't for 13 days!). So that may be part of it.

We had the name discussion last night. It's nice that we're starting to agree. Finally. We are locked on a boys name unless our friends use it, and we have several girls names that we agree on. So maybe it won't be as hard as it seemed!

Definitely having a 'fat' day today. Can't button my khakis...and they're 'big' ones. OH, well, nothing a big sweater won't hide! :)

telling - we've told our immediate families and very close friends, but mostly because they already knew we were going through IVF. I've felt really strongly about not telling anyone else until I'm through the first trimester, only because my mother and sister both miscarried their first pregnancies, and I don't want to have to deal with that situation. But my belly is starting to protrude, so i'm not sure i'm going to be able to keep it under wraps another month!

emmjay - my husband and I are disagreeing on girl names (i want "Sydne" and he wants "Gabrielle"), so I told him if it is a girl, we'll put the names in the hat and draw for it. The catch is - I'll be writing the names down on the little slips of paper, and both of them will be "Sydne". Is that horrible or what? :D He just doesn't understand that mother knows best!

There was a lot of screaming in my office and when we all came out, we just said it was cos of a promotion but I think the guy next door knows something is going on.:D

Feeling Real I am definitely still in shock that we are pregnant and it really doesn't feel 100% real. l think once l see my stomach growing, it's going to be more real and I can make more decisions.

Today is not a great day for food. l really didn't have anything for breakfast and just ate the meat in my sandwich at lunch. Everything is very blah right now.

Feeling real- Sometimes I think I could forget that I am pregnant. My dr. appointment is in an hour and half!!! I'm so excited and I really hope that we get to hear the heartbeat. I hope that will make it feel more real.

I think it is even harder for my DH. I asked him last night if he wanted to see what the baby looks like and he still thinks it's the size of a peanut! Whenever we bring up things about the baby he keeps mentioning that we still have 9 months.... No hun, we 5-6 months left to figure it out. I don't think it will hit him that the baby is coming sooner than later until I have a huge belly rather than a bump.

Reply on sneaking in names... Be careful, Shannon liked the name Hannah and at first I thought it's okay but I can't see my daughter being named Hannah, then he started saying it all the time and the more he mentioned it the more I grew to HATE IT!

Klav - that is EXACTLY my hang up on the name! I don't like "gabby" (sounds like a chatter box), and it reminds me of Desperate Housewives. It just hit me -- maybe THAT's why my husband likes the name so much!

I heard the heart beat!!! The dr. was looking for it for a couple of minutes and then as soon as I touched my tummy and spoke he found the heart beat. It was like it was hiding and waiting for Mom to tell him to come out! I am so excited.
I just kept staring at my husband and we were just smiling and laughing. I don't think either one of us have been so happy!
Oh! I also talked to my Dr. and he will be the one delivering the baby. I feel so much better knowing that, they have 20 something drs there and I didn't want some stranger to deliver it.

Hi, ladies--

I'm really behind on this thread (like 30+ pages). For some odd reason, I only get email notification sometimes. I hope you're all doing well.

I had my first visit yesterday with a nurse practitioner. I got so unexpectedly excited during my ultrasound (this is my second child) that I forgot to ask for an EDD. She said something about "july 25th" and me being 8 weeks, but my calculations have me at a little over 7 wks. I guess I'll give them a call today to see if they can give me a firm(er) EDD. I didn't expect to get all teary from the u/s. I don't know why. I guess this whole time I didn't really "feel" pregnant and this is my second pregnancy. But, when I saw the sac and my little peanut's heartbeat, I choked up. Ultrasounds are just amazing.

Has/is anyone doing the Nuchal Translucency or the First Trimester Bio screening? If so, does you insurance cover it? My husband (and I) are with Aetna. THey suck. They don't cover the NT and my nurse practitioner told me it's about $700! I really want to get this done in hopes that I can avoid an amnio this time around.

Telling: I've told my 2 best friends, my cousin (who is an OB), and 3 LJ friends. I think we're going to tell my family at Christmas and my DH's family at Hanukkah.

Weight: my metabolism just STOPS the minute I'm pregnant. It's so strange. Pre-pregnancy, I can eat whatever I want and will not gain or lose weight. I guess I had a high metabolism considering the amt and junk I eat. But, I gained 5 lbs a week after our BFP. Last pregnancy, I gained 50lbs! I'm trying to be more conscientious of what & how much I eat now. I'm already as heavy as I was when I was 5-6 mos pregnant w/ Taya.

Name game: we won't really be thinking about names until we find out the gender. I usually HATE my DH's choices and he hates mine. :p

Well, I'm off to *try* to catch up!

Lil_Mrs_0702 Congrats on hearing the heart beat, amazing!

jewamese Congratulations as well on your appt. If your due date is correct we will be due date buddies :D By the way, just curiuos, does your screen name having anything to do with your ethnicity? If so, I would guess jewish and asian descent. That's cute ;)

I didn't think about the fact that the screening might not be covered! I'll have to check into that. My husband wants to get the screening done, but I'm on the fence about it. I believe our doctor's going to discuss the tests with us today at our appt.

Yesterday was a GOOD DAY, nausea-wise... we took full advantage of it by going out to eat, running some errands, and whatnot. It was very nice. I can only hope that today is just as good. I do have a cold, but if I have to pick one or the other I'll pick the cold. :D

emmjay, I like Zada. What's his hangup with it?

lindybug, cool about getting the Doppler. I hadn't planned on renting one, but now I'm having little pangs of wanting to.

Lil_Mrs_0702, yay for the great appt!

jewamese, don't you just hate when the date from the u/s is off from your own calculations? I'm supposedly 10 weeks today, based on the u/s, but I had thought I was further along and would be 11 weeks on Sunday. Oh, well.

I'm not even sure if the NT screening is available here, much less covered by my ins. It wasn't brought up at my first appt, but the triple screen was.

Names: Well, after total obsession since yesterday (you should see my LJ), I settled on a boy name of either Nicholas _____ or Nicolas _____ (nickname Nick or Nico). Yes, I still need a middle name. I don't think Nicholas Lucas works.

Girl name will be Liliana Cate or Lilia Cate.

Belly SHots: DH took some belly shots of me this morning before he left for work and I was preparing to post them, but when I looked at them on the computer, they were awful. I checked the camera, and it was set to Macro. Blah. He'll have to retake them after work, so that'll have to wait. Blah, blah, blah.

Morning mommas!!!

Just swinging by to say hi.

liz--glad to hear you had a m/s free day yesterday! yippee!!

Sophia--lovin' Nicolas with the sibs names. No ideas on a middle name, but I'll let you know if I think of anything that might work for you.

jewamese--yay for the u/s! I'm so jealous!!

Lil Mrs--Oh, yippee! So exciting to hear the heartbeat. Sounds like it was such a sweet moment for you and DH.

RE: Feeling real--Nope. Not at all. Since I have very few symptoms, I have to remind myself! 12 days till I hear the heartbeat, and then it will be more real. DH says it won't really be real to him till I have a belly.

------------------------------
I took some belly shots this morning. Not so easy to do by oneself! And there is NO WAY I am posting. :p I had a bigger "pooch" at 6 weeks than I did today...my waist is just going away. Nothing remotely cute about that. I'm hoping that the scale says nice things when I go to the Dr. because I don't want big numbers until I have a belly to show for it! :)

The only "reason" I've gotten (besides "NO" or "I exercise my right to veto!") is that our last name begins with "W" so she will never be picked first for anything. I think he is half joking with that, so I don't know the real reason beyond him just not liking it. I do want to get a real reason out of him before I accept a flat "No."

No kidding! Especially since, as I said before, this would be for my great-grandmother whose maiden name was Zada Belle Walker so obviously she managed to survive with those initials!

Honestly, I think it's because he likes very traditional names and he probably thinks Zada is too weird. We'll see - I think I can work on him. ;)

I JUST got back from my appt.... it's 6 PM and the appt. was at 4. I didn't even get in until 5. :( All they did was weigh me (have lost 4 lbs according to their scale), blood pressure check, and they were supposed to listen for the baby's heartbeat but they did an ultrasound instead. So I have 3 more little pics. It looks like a baby now! HB was 163 BPM, the nurse said "You're having a girl, I guarantee it".

On another note, DH and I have made the decision to switch doctors and hospitals. It wasn't just today's experience... it was a culmination of things. I've been going to the same OB/GYN for a good 5-6 years, and although he's OK as a gyn, we just don't mesh on the OB side. Since our insurance is good and we have a lot of hospitals to choose from, we figure we might as well look for someone we work with better. I will start doing some research next week.

Need to find some dinner, I'm starving. Have a good weekend ladies!!

Lizard- I am sorry that you had to wait so long to see your dr. It is amazing how the wait time can change your attitude about going to see your dr. I had one office that I went to during my last pregnancy and I basically had to take 1/2 day off because the wait was so long. Towards the end the wait would get into hours and I had to start bringing a snack.
Now, I can go on my lunch break no problem.

Sophia
12-16-2005, 04:55 PM
Lizard, Dh was having the same problem with one of his doctors. It's gotten ridiculous. He went in for some tests 2 weeks ago and they've made him go in twice "for the results" (they refuse to give them over the phone) and the first time they couldn't find the results so they had to draw blood again and the second time the doctor wasn't there (out on emergency) and was the only person DH could get the results from. Supposedly the doctor was going to call him with the results, but that hasn't happened. He's switching.

Lizard
12-16-2005, 05:56 PM
Well, the wait time wasn't the only issue. I wasn't really going to talk about this but I guess there's no reason NOT to. But keep in mind it's disgusting. Don't read if you have nausea or are eating something! :)

The last time I went to my doctor's appt, we were scheduled for a vaginal ultrasound. We got in the room, the nurse came in and started to set up the machine. She looked at the "probe" thingie and said "Oh my god, someone forgot to clean this off". My husband about died on the spot and I'm sure I didn't have a good look on my face either. Right after she said that, the doctor came in and she said "Look at this, I think someone was using it while you were gone". Well, she cleaned it well and we did our ultrasound (they used the condom thingie on it so no worries there at least). When we left, we talked about the doctor and the overall visit, and although we were hesitant we decided to go for 1 more appointment. Like I said in a prior post, I've been going to this doctor for my regular gyn appts. for 6 years, and he's a decent guy.

So we went today, and this appointment was OK, but they were an hour late getting us in and the doctor had an attitude I don't care for. And get this, I was in the same room as last time, glanced at the ultrasound machine, and the probe was filthy. So yeah, that was the last straw.

We have a TON of doctors to choose from in this area, so there's no reason to stick with this guy. Not to mention we aren't overly thrilled with the hospital he delivers at. So this is better all around. :)

I am behind on this thread, and I don't have time to finish reading replies-I've read through most of Thursday. I wanted to comment on a few things.

cpbride--I will also go early. I'm diabetic (not gestational--I'll be diabetic after pregnancy is over, too, since I had been for 21 years prior to now) and they don't let diabetics go past their due date. My DD was born a month early, so I'm thinking if I make it to the end of June, that will be good.

Testing--I'm having the "ultrascreen", which is the test a few of you mentioned on Thursday. I was told to call my insurance company and ask them if it was covered, since it's a new test. My insurance (Tufts--we live in Boston) said that as long as I was over 34, it would be covered. I'm that (and then some. ;) ) Jewamese--you mentioned it was $700? Our doctor gave us info that said it would cost $200 for the u/s portion and $95 for the blood work, if not covered. Odd how it varies so much.

Feeling real--Even though I haven't had tons of symptoms, this does feel real to me. I really wanted a second baby and had been thinking about this one probably since DD was born, and since we already have one, I can envision how this will turn into a real baby in about 6-6.5 months or so.

Telling--We told my family at Thanksgiving, but the ILs still don't know. We will see them at Christmas (they live 1000 miles away) and will tell them then. It should be fun. I told my college girlfriends last week at a Christmas party. We'll tell my extended family on Christmas Eve, and I'll tell work when the new semester starts in January.

Lizard - That is really freaking disgusting! Sorry you have to find a new Dr., but that sounds like it really sealed the deal for you!

klav - Yay for seeing the baby!!! I'm a little confused-- if you are due on 7/12 then wouldn't you be 10w4d? Are you sure you EDD isn't sooner?

My work Christmas party was last night... it was fun, but definitely different without the drinking aspect of it. It was really the first time I felt like I was "missing out" on something. It didn't help that all I really wanted to do was go home and sleep! I did however take FULL advantage of the awesome buffet!

Anyone else feel "big" (or bigger) but not like they have any kind of belly? I currently have absolutely no waist--but I don't feel like I'm growing in any other way! Just expanding to the sides :) I actually kinda feel like a big box! I'll try to take some pictures as proof!

How everyone is having a great weekend!!

Some responses...

Lizard--that is TOTALLY gross. And you CANNOT have a 'bad feeling' about the person bringing your child into the world. Good luck finding a dr who you feel good about.

Klav--YAY!!!!!!! for seeing the little peanut! You must be so excited! Let us see those beautiful pics!

Wrighty--I haven't had a 'missing out' moment, but I'm sure I will. I can imagine how weird it was for you! And add me to the list of those feeling like a box! My waist is disappearing rapidly!

nuhman--HAPPY ANNIVERSARY...you got married three months and one day before I did (and December 18th was my first pick, but everywhere was booked already!). Hope you enjoyed dinner!

So I totally have a recommendation for jeans. I have 'grown' out of all but one pair of jeans. (Partly due to pre-pg weight gain  ) So I went to Old Navy yesterday. I have to say, their no panel jeans are GREAT...they have the adjustable waist (elastic with buttonholes on the inside) but just look like regular tabfront jeans on the outside. ONE WORD OF WARNING...If you are taller than 5'6", don't even try it. I'm pretty much a poster child for "regular" lenght pants, and I CANNOT wear these with heels. And they don't come in lengths. The roll panels do, but these do not. Anyway, they're on sale for 19.99 and should last for MONTHS (and they're regular denim, not some weird fake fabric). As for size, yup, pretty true to size. I am a 8/10 pre-pg, and the M is a good fit.

Okay, that's my PSA for the day. Hope you all have a great Monday!

wrighty: yes, feeling very boxish...I also feel like I'm starting to get a little bulge below my belly button. I can still sort of suck it in so I think that it is mostly bloating and the mass quantities of cookies I ate this weekend! Yes also to missing out moment. I saw a group of friends on Fri that I haven't seen in quite awhile. If felt so funny to decline the offer of a drink (especially when their rum and cokes looked so darn good!). Better get used to it I guess!

numah: my 2 year anniversary is Dec 27. Did everyone think you were crazy too for getting married so close to Christmas? Despite some of the grumbling I LOVED get married this time of year. It was so beautiful and my family from all over the place was able to be together for the holidays...in the end even the most ardent complainers said they loved it too!

As for me I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait! I think the 4 week wait between my last app and this one was about all I can take! It just took forever and I'm so ready to have some confirmation that everything is still okay and then go blazing into the 2nd tri. Hopefully we'll be able to hear the heartbeat. If for some reason he can't find it, I think I may insist on a u/s. I just know that I won't be able to let it go no matter how many times I hear it's "normal" and "too early." Wow, I can't believe pregnancy has turned me so obsessive compulsive!

Good morning!! Well, I have a cold. :( I stayed on the couch yesterday and just tried to snooze it off. My doctor said that Sudafed, Robitussen and cough drops were OK... well, I took a Sudafed the other night and it made my heart race like crazy. So I guess I'll just try to fight this on my own. I feel much better today anyways. Hopefully this is gone by Friday, since we're heading out of town.

FYI, Gap has a TON of stuff on sale this week, including a lot of maternity clothes! Just in case anyone's looking for stuff already. I'm wearing my biggest pair of work slacks today and they're a little too tight. I guess I'll be finding some transition pants this week....

Thanks, for the recommendation on jeans. I'll keep that in mind for the future. Although I think that I might be the only one here to not see any changes in my figure yet other than my expanding bust line.

Update

Still having troubles eating in the evenings... Dinner for me is the worst. I finally broke down an got a new bra this weekend since my old ones just don't feel supportive enough, even though they fit better than when I first bought them.

Other than that my body still looks the same maybe a tiny bit bloated, I feel a bit bigger but all my clothes are still fitting on the roomy side. Although I can't suck in my stomach at all any more.

Looking forward to my first visit with the new Dr. on Wednesday morning. Hoping that I like her and that I get to have an ultrsound and hear the heartbeat!

So I totally have a recommendation for jeans.

Thanks so much! My jeans and pants are all getting tighter and tighter. So, I just bit the bullet and ordered a bunch of stuff from oldnavy.com on your recommendation! I have been in the store before, but their maternity selection is kinda small. Plus, that store just makes me nervous... It's always a crowded mess! LOL I like the pics of the stuff online though, so hopefully it looks as good in person. Otherwise, it's hard to beat $5 shipping and in-store returns.

Not much else going on here. We have DH's holiday party tonight... I hope I don't feel like a bloated whale in my dress! I've only gained about 3 pounds, but my body shape and composition is definitely changing.

Looks like I need to get to Old Navy pronto - I am on the verge of outgrowing my last pair of jeans that are not covered in paint and spackle.

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes!

MMK - I was at a staff breakfast the other day, and this one woman was complaining of having to go to two weddings this past weekend. She says "WHo gets MARRIED this time of year!?!?" I just kept my mouth shut... weddings this time of year are gorgeous, and it was a HUGE family reunion for my side of the family. What better way to spend a holiday?! :D

I feel so behind compared to the rest of you girls. I can't believe l still have almost 31 weeks left!

Lizard That is just disgusting and gross! Thank goodness you are going to another doctor.

Nuhmah/MMK Happy Anniversary!!!

Wrighty I have been having a lot of "missing out" moments since my BFP. Our group of friends meet for dinner at least once a week and most of us love to drink wine. It has been interesting coming up with "excuses" of why I am not drinking. A good number now know that I'm pregnant but l definitely got a couple of suspicious looks before l told them.:)

Clothing For some reason, l am still fitting into all my clothing - l actually think l have more space now. Fun! I keep looking at my belly but nada. I think l will take SophiaB's idea and start measuring my waist. I think l need some confirmation that everything is growing ok. I don't get to see my doctor until Jan 10th!

Nuhmah and MMK--First off, Nuhmah, Happy First Anniversary! What a great year :) My anniversary is the 28th! Too funny that we have all of these December/Christmas wedding in this thread. I LOVED that we got married at Christmas. People were able to take some time off and come to our wedding (since most of our friends/family were from out of town) AND we will always have a GREAT excuse to have some alone time after Christmas (just in time for New Years).

sunchaser26 - Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with food. I'm hoping that it ends for you soon! Good luck at the Dr. on Wednesday :)

Clothes- I'm extremely jealous of everyone who is able to fit into Old Navy jeans! My legs are just too damn long. I'm definitely going to be investing in some Gap maternity jeans though! Did someone post that they are currently having a big sale?

MMK- I think that this is the quote of the day: Wow, I can't believe pregnancy has turned me so obsessive compulsive! Hee!

Man, oh man, I am the CRANKIEST person alive today... There is just no stopping me, I am on total bitch patrol!! I feel SO bad :(

Liz- That is so gross. The wait was reason enough to switch but dirty medical equipment is reason to report them! I would have lost my stomach right there on the spot if saw that and then had a few words for the dr.

Well as for an update on me... We finished our Christmas shopping this weekend. We got everyone toys rather than practical gifts, so my dad and brother got racing rc cars and my mom a couple of video games.
We also got the baby crib! It is a convertable crib that turns into a twin size bed. We got it in a light wood so that it stays neutral for a boy or girl. We will probably start setting up the nursery after Christmas, secretly I want DH to do all the work and suprise me as a gift. He's usually pretty good at doing those sort of things but I'm sure he wont since I already thought of it.

The stores actually weren't too busy. We had a crazy wind storm with gusts up to 60 mph so a lot of shoppers stayed home this weekend. If we had known about the storm before going out, I'm sure we would have stayed in as well.

Hey everybody -- I'm feeling kind of bummed about some other things going on in my family right now, but I am trying to stay in good spirits. DH and I went to BRU yesterday and picked out a crib. It's a dark cherry sleigh style. I can't get the changing table/dresser from the set, though, because it's too tall for me.

I am frustrated with my OB's office. Right before we got the BFP, I was in for my annual. I had some tests run because we were concerned about possible infertility. My doctor said that the tests would probably be covered by my insurance as part of my annual "well woman" visit, but she wasn't absolutely sure. I got a bill a few weeks later and didn't fully understand it, so I held on to it until my next appointment. At that appt., I was told that I would not be allowed to see the doctor until I paid nearly $300. Well, the bill I received was for far less than that, but I thought maybe it was that bill plus the costs for the current day's visit...? Anyway, I just wanted to see the doctor and went ahead and paid what they were asking. Right after that appointment, I got another bill that I do not understand. I signed a payment contract with the OB's insurance dept., and these bills are not matching up with the payment schedule we discussed. The very next day, I got a bill from the lab saying that I needed to contact them and let them know if I have insurance. Well, shouldn't the doctor's office have given them my insurance billing info???So now I have several hundreds of dollars worth of bills that I don't understand at all. I called the billing department this morning, but got their voicemail. I left a message, but they never called me back. I called back this afternoon, and again got the voicemail that says their hours are 9am - 3pm -- Really practical hours, huh? Grrrrr....

I am mainly frustrated because I have an appointment to hear the heartbeat next week and I *know* they are going to insist that I pay these bills before I can see the doctor.

ShelbyMay- I'm sorry to hear about your insurance dilemma. Would it be possible to pay by credit card? That way, if you need to dispute the charge, you can always go through your credit card company.

I love seeing everyone's later u/s pics because it helps me get an idea of what my little one looks like! Klav It looks like an honest to goodness baby in there! How amazing! It must be so awesome to see in person.

Maternity clothes I too stopped at Old Navy this weekend to pick up a pair of jeans (I get to wear uber casual at work!) just in case. My pants now are snug but still do-able but I wanted something just in case I woke up one morning with nothing that fits. I also just won stuff off of Ebay with a pair of Gap jeans and 3 shirts for $20 w/shipping! I don't like doing that though because I don't know how they'll fit. I figured it was cheap enough though.

Body Changes I totally feel like my belly is growing but in pics it looks the same as it did at 7 weeks. I still have a waist. I too can't suck in any buldge.

Mood I am one bitchy lady lately. It is my new symptom and it is mostly at night. I am just super irritable which is so weird for me cause I am normally so bubbly. It is really hard keeping my patience with my kids at work. But that is the main reason I'm not posting a whole lot. I just can't bring myself to type everything out.

Body Changes: I feel like I'm showing a little bit, but I guess you can't really tell with my clothes on. DH and I were out shopping yesterday and stopped by a store that he frequents. I hadn't been there with him in a while, and the owner commented that I've lost weight since she last saw me.

I wasn't really sure how to respond to that, so I just smiled and thanked her. :)

Then, of course, my paranoia kicked in later that night and I started wondering if there could be something wrong with the baby's development and if that's why I actually look thinner...

The truth is, I'm probably not thinner at all. I probably just look thinner because of my new humongous BBs. :D It's all relative, right?

I am jealous of all of you ladies that are further along than I am and are still fitting into your clothes! I have taken to wearing only scrubs to work. I went shopping today, and I wore fleece PJs! I have gotten some new things, NONE of my pants fit. I have gained 5lb, and you can see a little belly, especially after I eat. I have no waist anymore!
Friday is my nurse visit at the OB office, I am so excited, but I know I do not get an U/S until 19 weeks:mad:

As far as symptoms, still tired and hungry and my chest hurts sooo bad. Someone hugged me the other night and YOW!

Quick update on me...
I can't believe I'm at the second trimester! Wow...what an incredible feeling. :)

Weight
Yeah, my weight gain has kind of leveled off. I haven't gained anymore weight since my dr appointment last Monday so I'm hoping that's a good sign. My MIL did take the liberty of telling me yesterday that I am "packing on the pounds", though. Thanks bunches, lady. lol.

Mood
Yeah, I am so cranky at work. This one woman I work with is just driving me absolutely INSANE!! Her voice irritates me even, and that's a shame since we are all on the phone or talking to people in our cubicles all day long. *sigh*

Energy
I have lots more energy now than I did, and I have been taking advantage of it. I baked 12 dozen cookies over the weekend and made a pineapple upside down cake as well. I have been cleaning on a regular basis and doing laundry. I guess I'm trying to make up for the fact that for the last seven weeks I haven't had the energy to do anything! Of course, now I'm wearing myself out and when I go to bed at night I just pass out.

Aches and Pains
OMGosh. My back is killing me all.the.time. DH has to help me out of bed in the morning, and last night I rolled over and it feltl ike I pulled a muscle in my lower abdomen. I didn't think this could start so soon. Oh, well, it will all be worth it in the end.

Okay...that's it for me. I'm going to try and be better about posting here...I do read just about every day. :o

Mystikal brought up a question for me. When does the 2nd trimester start? I know this is a very popular question but I've always been confused. My State Farm book says 12w0d but if you divide 40 by 3 you get 13w3d. I am on Folgard and progesterone suppositories and would *looove* to stop taking them. If it is 12w0d then I am in my 2nd trimester today!!

Soulmate - My doctor calls 12w to 24w the 2nd trimester. It surprised me at my appt. on Friday when he said I was entering it already. So, welcome to the 2nd trimester!!!

Well, I am a bum, I'm wearing the same work slacks that I was yesterday. I went to Kohl's last night to try to find SOMETHING, and everything I tried on felt way too tight around the midsection. I don't know if that's a sign I should try some maternity pants or what. DH seems to think I should. I plan on taking a belly shot later... I'm wearing a fitted sweater and I really think I'm showing.

Oh, speaking of doctors, we got an excellent recommendation from a friend of ours that has a 2 year old and another on the way on Monday. They really like their OB (actually, the whole office), and I did some web reading on the hospital they deliver at. They are connected to a children's hospital, and their maternity ward is very, VERY pro-breastfeeding. My goal is to breastfeed for a year so this is right up my alley. A different friend of ours delivered there as well and really liked it - both of them said the nursing staff is fantastic. They offer free tours so I'm going to call and sign up for one. That's a start!

Edit: I forgot to say, all the new ultrasounds look so great! I tried to scan my newest one and it just comes out as a black blob. :(

OK, I have more to say, LOL... I'm bored at work and chatty.

Mystikal - WOW for cooking 12 dozen cookies!! There is a cookie exchange at work today and I've been so under the weather that I didn't cook any. If I feel better by tomorrow I might make some to take to the in-laws house this weekend. Also, on that pulled muscle pain... is it REALLY low on your abdomen? I've been getting a weird pulling pain right across my belly and really really low. I notice it happens when I move "wrong" or something when I get up in the morning. Dunno what it is.

ShelbyMay - I hope you get your insurance figured out. :( You'd think there would be some way of making that stuff easier on the patient!

Wrighty - Gap is having a big sale right now, check out their website. Not sure if it's web only or in the stores too.

Speaking of Gap... does anyone know if you can use a Baby Gap gift card at the regular Gap store? My mother made a mistake and sent me a Baby Gap card for my birthday, even though I'd told her "Gap". I really don't want to buy baby clothes yet but I'd love to get some maternity items. :D

lizard - yes, Gap giftcards can be used at any Gap store and online. I bought a bunch of Christmas gifts at the Gap and they were giving away $15 cards to be used in January for every purchase over $50, I think. I'm not sure if they still have that promo, but I'll be hitting Gap Maternity then!

Hey Ladies,

Due to the NY Transit strike, l'm working from home today so I am kinda happy.

It's amazing to see that a bunch of you have already moved into the 2nd trimester. I can't wait - just to see if the nauseau feeling will stop or be less! I will be so happy when that happens.

YES!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had crampiness all day yesterday, and I'm positive it was from all the coughing I've been doing. It was starting to worry me because it really felt like AF type cramps. Things are good today so far though. I suppose if I get more like that I should call the doc. I've been hesitant to take too much Robitussen, but I guess that's better than coughing all day. :)

I have been having weird cramps lately, too.... they happen really low, and hurt the most when I have to go to the bathroom, sneeze, or cough. Actually, it hurt the other day when I moved too fast! Someone once told me that there are ligaments (or something) stretching down there, and that is why that is so painful.

My back is killing me, too.... Costco was having a sale on their body pillows, I may go back and get another one!

And I am defenitely hitting up Old Navy today - you can defenitely use Gap GC's at any Gap (I just asked the other day!) - there is one store in my area that carries their maternity, so it looks like I will be ordering online.

Bills: I finally got through to the billing department today and *think* I have everything taken care of. I hope so.

Pain: I was actually wondering last night if it's normal for my abs to hurt so much when I cough! I've also noticed pain when I move quickly, although that pain is lower down usually.

Clothes: I ordered a ridiculous quantity of maternity items from Old Navy last night. They don't have them in the store here, and they have that flat $5 shipping fee, so I figured I'd order everything I'm interested in trying on. The people at the store will probably hate me when I inevitably return half of it, but oh well.

I know it's crazy, but I think I might POAS after work today. I have one Dollar Tree test left, and it's another week and 1/2 until my next appt.... I just need the reassurance!

I have a feeling my DH is goingt o be full time cat duty food and all, not that he's not doing the cat box already but I'm haveing a tought time feeding them.

I also got a nice bill in the maiil from the fertility clinic I was going to... so called them this afternoon to see why I got the bill and the girl told me to call the insurance because I was denyed? hello for diagnostic? anyway I called the insurance and the girl put me on hold and then came back saying she resubmitted it becuase she does not see why they would not pay it ? so we will see something about not being able to pay till nov. when I was considered infertal? don't know what diagnostic has to do with IUI thank good ness I did not have to go that far!

I did this as soon as I got pregnant and NONE of it fit (or was going to in the near future) so I had to return it all. It takes forever to return stuff because they cannot just scan it, they have to manually type in all the codes and stuff. Go during a time where there aren't a lot of customers if you do have to return. Also I found that my shirt sizes in maternity ended up being way smaller than the chart said on the ON.com website. I wear L or XL t-shirts usually and I'm wearing small and some mediums when I do wear maternity. The pants look like they are going to fit tho eventually so I kept those. I'm a June mommy but I lurk here and just wanted to share.

Lizard Woooooooooo Hoooooooooo! I can't believe I made it to the 2nd trimester! It is so surreal. This was pretty much the only milestone I had left so I now feel like I might actually be a mommy!

Amaye I had dry heaves as recently as Saturday. Since 8 weeks its still been around but more intermittent. My all day nausea is pretty much gone though.

Lindybug I'm glad I'm not the only one :D In my weird neurosis I was worried something was wrong (but logic took over again). I mean how can the baby go from the size of a pea to a thumb and the belly be the same size? But knowing a lot of women don't even get pooches until 16 weeks makes me feel better.

Gap It totally sucks there stuff is on sale. We do not have a GapMaternity around here and I am on the verge of S and M non-preggo. I don't want to order stuff online and not have it fit. Plus I have no idea when I'll be what size during which season. I might be an XL in summer with a bunch of L short sleave shirts. I think I am just over thinking all of this ;)

Cramps/Pains Mine have increased lately. Today they have been very sharp and about a 4 on the pain scale. I am getting to that stage where the belly really starts growing so I just keep telling myself that that is what it is. As long as I don't spot I don't mind any cramps or pains.

klav - yes, I have been having smell aversions! The dog going poop makes me nauseous (it never used to), and I can smell it from a mile away. Coffee (which I hate) makes my head spin even more than it did before, and cleaning products have an especially pungent odor. The good thing is that it is getting better!

MMK

cramps: it's so nice to have this resource and see others posting about concerns at the exact same time I was worrying about the same thing! My pains have definitely been on the upswing for the past couple of days. Definitely not the cramping I had during the first few weeks...sharper and lower (right above my pubic bone).

klav: I was walking my dog this morning and passed my an area where a skunk must have sprayed the night before...I started dry-heaving right then and there. I've been luck and haven't had any vomiting but that smell just about did me in.

Had my dr's appointment this afternoon and everything looked great. It was SO nice to have some reassurance. This is really starting to feel real! I was able to hear the hearbeat but I didn't think it was as exciting as I thought it was going to be. God, does that make me sound horrible? Don't get me wrong, I was so grateful that the dr could hear but I guess, it just wasn't that clear to me so it was a little anti-climatic. I kept saying "is that it" and he kept saying "no, that's YOUR heartbeat!" Pretty cool nonetheless!

QOTD: Is any one else getting SUPER anxious to find out the sex??? I went through a stage a couple of weeks ago when I was thinking it would be cool to not find out and wait for the big surprise but now sheesh...it is ALL I think about!

Oh wait, I have another question. How do you all feel about the blood test that determines your probablility of having a downs baby? The dr told me it was optional and I could decide at the next appointment.

Holy long post! Sorry!

Second trimester--In my mind, the second trimester starts when you hit week 13 (i.e. 13w0d). If it goes from 12w-24 w, then that third trimester is awfully long (24w-possibly 42w). I think doctors vary on when it starts as well.

Coughing/sneezing--Every once in a while when I sneeze, I get a pulling sensation as well. It hurts! ;)

MMK--Although I want to know the sex, we didn't the first time around and will wait again. To us, it's more fun this way. I know everyone has their own view on this, though.

Do you mean the triple/quad screen blood test? I had that the first time around, and it has a notorious level of false positives. I was lucky in that I didn't get a false positive, but I'm sure it causes a lot of unnecessary worry. I did the test, though, because I read that it also detects conditions that are good for the doctors to know ahead of time, so they can be ready to intervene right after labor and delivery, if necessary.

This time, I am having the "ultrascreen", which is a lot more accurate than the triple screen blood test. The ultrascreen is an ultrasound and a blood test that detects Downs as well.

Maybe a little difference? I CAN see a distinction above my pelvic bone now...guess that's my uterus! Kinda cool.

I was going to ask when you ladies consider it the 2nd trimester! I think I'm going to go with 13 weeks- only because I've read 12, 13, OR 14-- and 13 is a happy medium!

MMK - Yay for hearing the heartbeat! Sorry it wasn't more exciting for you... I can definitely image being confused about which heartbeat is which!

Soulmate - I kinda have the same fear about buying from Gap.com-- there is a GapMaternity at one of the malls here-- but they only have a few things. I hate buying stuff and then having to return it! I have a feeling I'll be getting at least one Gap giftcard for Christmas so maybe I'll feel more inspired then!

Anyone kinda AFRAID to buy maternity clothes? I want to buy some-- but since I don't really look pregnant yet, it's weird for me (and I'm a little supersitious!).

I had the craziest day today-- and I was SOOOO tested at work. Lately work has been pretty drama free-- but not today! My coworker said I handled myself very well, somehow! The good news is that had the walk-thru on our house, which we are closing on in a week! It went very well-- I am SO excited :D

Sex of baby - We are going to find out. My current OB won't do the big ultrasound until 22 weeks, however we're switching OB's so who knows what they'll do. I imagine it'll be sometime in February.

Lolavix - I'm curious, do you have to ask for the "ultrascreen"? I've been hesitant about the the quad screen because of all the false positives, but if there's a more accurate alternative I'd be interested.

Not sure about my nausea lately... I've had some, but I've also been sick so I don't know if it's because of that or the pregnancy. I'm feeling much better today though, just a sniffly nose. Almost there--I'm sorry. :(

Lizard--I was offered the ultrascreen because of my age (38). It focuses primarily on Downs and chromosomal abnormalities that increase in likelihood with a woman's age. The triple screen gives some of that information, but also gives information about neurological problems like neural tube deformities. (I'll still need a regular u/s to assess those.) So, it's not exactly a one-for-one comparison, if that makes sense. When I called my insurance company to see if the test was covered, because it is so new, I was told that as long as I was 34 (or over 34, I can't remember which) the test is covered. So, perhaps doctors aren't offering it to everyone, but just women who normally would be offered an amnio (since that is the better "comparison").

The baby's sex will be a surprise for us.

Almost there- I am so sorry. Let us know if there is anything we can do.

Finding out sex- We want it to be a suprise so my dr. told me he would put it in my file but make sure to tell the technician that we don't want to know just in case they skip it in the file.
For those of you that are planners- I have been told that you actually get a lot more practical gifts if you don't know the sex. People who know if it is a boy or girl typically just buy little outfits for showers rather than diaper genies and baby slings. You may want to know vut leave it a suprise for others.
We figure that there is enough baby neutral clothes out there to get the baby through it's first 3-6 months and clothes are so cheap and people will be giving us a ton of hand me downs once the baby is born. My uncle has five children- a mix of boys and girls- so I'm sure with him alone we will be well taken care of on lots of baby stuff that he wants to get rid of.

Okay- So maybe a little TMI, but is anyone else's breasts growing rather quicker than the rest of them? I have a tiny pooch that is easy to cover up but I have went from barely filling a 34 B to busting out of a 36 C. There is just no concealing the darn things. I know I should be excited but I catch men and women looking at them and unless I am in an oversized sweatshirt, they announce themselves. I even get dirty looks from women and glaring drooling men in the grocery store!

Lolavix: I think you're right regarding the age thing and dr's offers of various tests. Mine offered just the quad test (I'm 28) which really doesn't seem all that helpful (just kind of tells you if your odds are increased or decreased from the norm in terms of downs). From that, if there were something to be concerned about there would be other tests (amnio I suppose). Anyway, I don't think I'm going to do the quad test. It just seems like it will cause needless worry. Still debating though and need to talk to dh about it.

nuhmah: that belly is looking too cute!

I'm impressed with you ladies who are sticking to your guns and letting the sex be a surprise. I really think that is the best most exciting way to go but right now I AM OBSESSED with the sex!! I really don't know what's come over me. Maybe it will fade again but I doubt it!

How good are you all about not eating blue cheese, feta, lunch meats etc? I don't really eat much of those things normally anyway but every so often if there is feta on a salad or sandwhich I haven't been very good about not eating it. I feel a little guilty and just wondering where everyone else stands on restrictive eating? Feel free to make me feel more guilty--it would probably be good for me! :o

Almostthere...I am so sorry!

Sex of the baby - We will be finding out the sex, my DH wants to know. I on the other hand wouldn't mind waiting but he can't keep a secret so I guess we'll be finding out if he/she is cooperative.

Update:

My first appointment with the new Dr. today. Everything went pretty well.

I got my first ultra sound this morning! It was great, no photos though...
I saw the heart beating and it looks like a little human in there.

I'm a bit upset about my weight gain though. I did not even realize I had gained any weight at all. Since even my jeans appear to fit the same. I guess I'll have to get over that.

Oh, and this Dr. said that I can ski, NO restrictions at all she said!

My next appointment will be January 18, 2006

Almostthere I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Wrighty26I can definitely see the difference. You are growing! It must be so exciting.

NuhmahLoving the prego belly!! You know I'm going to run and go check if anything is showing yet right?!:D :o I'm so obsessed with my belly these days. DH thinks I'm insane!

Lil_Mrs_0702Wow...your girls really grew. Mine went from a barely 38C to a full 38C and has seemed to stop growing which I'm glad about. Sorry - can't really commiserate.

Baby sexSome part of me wants to know so l can say he/she but DH is insistent on not finding out. I would usually find out for myself but I have a feeling I will slip and say something so I guess we will be waiting.

TestsThe only test my doctor has mentioned is the quad test which I'm still reading up on. Nothing has been mentioned about triple screen or ultrascreen.

Food I barely have an appetite so I'm being very good about what l ate. Unfortunately, my taste for food changes by the minute so there isn't one dish that l can always eat and like. So far, all l've had today is a Peanut butter and jelly sandwich and it's threatening to come back up. Sigh - I'm sorry to be complaining but this part really SUCKS!

If you want someone to make you feel guilty, I am definitely not the right person to answer this! But I will anyway. ;) I still eat lunch meat if I want to (I don't eat it very often anyway) and sushi and feta cheese. I have had brie but I got the pasteurized kind. I just don't think it's that big of a deal. The only food restriction I am heeding is not eating swordfish/shark/etc. and limiting my tuna intake because of the mercury. I even had 1/2 a glass of wine at 6 weeks with dinner and I don't feel bad about it. I feel like there is so much freaking out that goes along with being pregnant - I'm not dying, I'm just having a baby! I know people's personal comfort levels are different for this, so just go with your feelings.

I am having some weird kind of food aversions where I only want to eat bread products in the morning, then I'm fine to eat anything at lunch, then I don't even want to eat anything at dinner but I try to force down some bread so I don't wake up starving and sick in the middle of the night. At least I haven't gained any weight! Yet.... ;)

I buckled and told all of my friends over the weekend (9 weeks). One of my very best friends is getting married 4 weeks after my due date - I am hoping I can make it to his wedding but I think it will be touch and go, depending on everything.

Tests - I'm getting the integrated test that is an ultrasound along with a blood draw, which tests for Down's, spina bifida and one other thing. My doctor recommends that everyone gets it for whatever reason, and I'll be 34 when I deliver so I think I want it.

Sex - we're going to find out but I don't know yet if we're going to tell anyone else. My family thinks everyone should just wait so I don't know if I want to bother telling them ahead of time.

sunchaser26 WOW your Dr said OK? I don't think I would chance it not that your a bad skier or would not be cautiuos but I'm worried about the other nutz out there.. the one's who don't know how to ski and just go. Last year, some kid took me out I think he knocked the wind out of me really slammed into me and was like O-sorry. So I think I'm staying by the fire and sippen hot coco

MMK lunch meat my Dr said it was fine.... and as long as the cheese is pasturized your fine too. but I have not been eating anything but like american and chedder the common ones. I have had a few deli sandwiches but have not been over killing it.

Lil_Mrs_0702 nope BB are fine but my girlfriend said that happened to her when sge was PG. so ... I guess your the luck one!!LOL

Emmjay you snuck in!
Your eating sushi!! I as told that was a NO NO!

nuhmah cute belly !!!

Oh, and this Dr. said that I can ski, NO restrictions at all she said!

Cool! That will be a lot more fun for you on your trip.

My doctor said I can ski as long as I want as well. I've been skiing for 20+ years so as long as I take it easy and stay off the extremely difficult slopes I am allowed to ski for the whole season. Although I think the beginner slopes are more dangerous in terms of out of control people! We go almost every weekend, so I have been doing easy half days and just relaxing the rest of the day.

My boobs are huge too - I had a breast reduction about 8 years ago and now I'm wondering why I bothered! :D

klav - from what I understand, with sushi there is a risk of food poisoning but not anything that passes to the baby. So if you go to a reputable place with fresh sushi, I think it's fine. I do limit the tuna though. I know many people don't want to risk it, but sometimes sushi is all I want to eat! :)

I'm with emmjay on the eating restrictions. In fact, my dr. told me that her ONLY restriction is no more than 1/2 lb. of seafood per week. Due to the mercury, of course. I have had lunch meat, I LOOOOVE bleu cheese and feta, and I had a glass of red wine at dinner Friday. Actually, compared to the US and Canada, European and Latin American women have FAR fewer dietary restrictions. It's quite interesting.

Anyway, like emmjay said, I really think you just have to go with your gut. What's right for me isn't necessarily right for you!

Boobs--I am a 34DD to begin with, and while the band is getting a smidge tight, the cups are fine. THANK HEAVENS. I am terrified of them growing to obscene proportions!

Oh, and emmjay--I am glad to hear that someone else simply finds dinner gross. No matter what it is. It's the oddest thing...

Lizard

Thanks for the explanation! I hadn't heard of that test before and I like being informed. :D I'm 30 (it's the last day I can say THAT, I'll be 31 tomorrow!) so that probably explains why the doc hadn't mentioned it.

food - I will be honest and say I haven't paid much attention. Since I've been so sick, I've just been focusing on eating whatever I can. I've had plenty of lunch meat, tuna on occasion, feta cheese, I had a Caesar salad a couple weeks ago, etc. I figure that nothing sounds good most of the time, so if it sounds good I'm gonna damn well eat it and enjoy it. :D The only thing I'm really watching myself on is the caffeine. Plus I really LIKE the fact that my soda intake has decreased to practically nothing, so I'm trying to stick to that. I'm also a sushi lover but I'm kinda staying away from that because my favorite place for sushi is one of our lunch vendors at work, and he sells them in pre-made packages. It always tastes fresh and he makes them right before he shows up to serve everyone, but I'm still a little hesitant. I figure I can live without it for a while.

"the girls" - My boobs grew quite a bit in the beginning, but in the past few weeks I haven't noticed any growth. They've been itchy as all getup though, especially around the nipples. :( Might be the season though, I always have itchy skin in the winter.

Food: I've been feeling a little guilty because I've eaten lunch meat 2 or 3 times, and there's this tomato blue cheese soup I loooooove and have eaten twice since the BFP. I'm not really worried about it, but maybe a little disappointed that I'm not the "perfect" pregnant woman. Oh, and I also drink some caffeinated iced tea or a soft drink every now and then (maybe 4 a week or so).

Boobs: Funny, I've had almost the exact same size change you mentioned! I was a 34B for years and noticed the band getting a little tight a few months ago, so I moved up to a 36B. Not long after the BFP, I was spilling out of the cups and moved up to a 36/38C. I think they've actually gone down just a bit lately, because I can get away with the 36B under certain shirts. As a girl who was an A cup all through high school, I am a little weirded out by the boobage, but also thrilled! ;)

Work: I think we already talked about this a few weeks ago, and I said that I was definitely returning at least part time. Well, work has really sucked lately, and DH and I had a talk about me maybe being a SAHM. We're still just talking it over and working out the numbers, but it's a possibility.

almostthere - I'm so sorry to hear your news. It really breaks my heart-- my thoughts are with you and your DH.

sunchaser- Yay for skiiing! I'm sure you'll have so much fun! My Dr. is very "everthing as usual" too-- if you feel up to it-- then go for it!

nuhmah - Yep, you definitely have good a baby belly! Mine just looks like a beer belly :D

Lizard - Happy early birthday!! I have a feeling your 31st year is going to be great!!

Food - I have been skipping the tuna, and I'm not a big fan of soft cheeses, but I did have sushi today for lunch! It was cooked-- so no big deal anyways. I do intend to have a glass of wine or two later in this pregnancy. I've heard it's especially nice to sip on a glass of wine when your battling insomnia in your last weeks. I totally understand it if you are against all of this, but I have definitely been raised to take in everything in moderation.

The girls - (Lizard--that made me laugh) - My boobs are freaking huge! I went from a B cup to a D cup. They have slowed down a little--but I can tell they are still "growing"-- oh joy! I actually liked my B cups

Finding out - We are SOOOO finding out. It's going to be a surprise either way (I certainly have no intution on this) and we'd like to find out sooner, rather than later. I'm also really looking forward to saying "she" or "he" instead of "it".

Off to pick up food for dinner-- what do you buy when you don't have a craving for anything? I think that's the oddest thing I've discovered since being pregnant-- I'm hungry to the point of nausea-- but I don't want anything in particular to eat (although-- did someone mention bread?? YUM hee)...

Okay so this is not just in my head... My ears must have been burning because while I was writing the post earlier today one of our vendors asked our sales rep if I got boob job!! Apparently I was out the last couple of times she was here and when she came in today she noticed that they are significantly larger. My rep told her that I was pg.

Food- I have been craving hot dogs lately- the sausage kind with the cheese so I went to Sam's and got a pack. As far as smell aversions that is the extent of my nausea. I can hardly go to the grocery store because the mix of all the different smells.

Havn't been by in a while....

Almost There- I'm so very sorry for you and your DH...we'll be thinking of you.

Food- Almost nothing sounds good these days...I am starving a lot of the time, but the thought of anything makes me want to throw up (although I havn't yet...knock on wood). During my pregnancy with Mia, I ate lunch meats (although they are a major aversion of mine right now), sushi (in moderation), soft cheeses (as long as they were pasturized), drank coffee (about a 1/2 cup a day during the thrid trimester) and had a 1/2 glass of red wine 3 or 4 times. I drank a full glass of red wine during early labor too. ;) My doctor said it can help you relax and determine if it is true labor, or if it just makes you fall asleep (in which case it's obviously false labor). I'm another one who believes in moderation.

Boobs- I'm a tiny girl, with a tiny chest  . Even when I was 9 months pregnant I was a "full" A cup. My boobs never really grew until my milk came in, and then HOLY COW! It looked like a boob job gone horribly awry. They were up to my neck and hard as rocks for a 3 or 4 days. Once my body figured out what my DD needed (as far as supply) though, they went down to about a B cup, which was great. Of course when I weaned DD at 12 months they shrank into NOTHING  . They have not grown at all with this pregnancy either....such a bummer!

Finding out- We didn't find out with DD and it was honestly the best moment of my life. I know it's a suprise either way, and I can totally see why you would find out, but there is nothing like the moment (after all of that long, long, hard labor), when the doctor yells out "IT'S A ______"!!! I still get really teary thinking about it. So needless to say, we won't be finding out with this one either. No names will be revealed until the birth either. It was so fun to call eveyone and say "We have a daughter, and her name is Mia Cameron!" So many people were suprised...EVERYONE was guessing a boy except me...I had 3 girl dreams, and even dreamed of her name...I felt like mother's intuition kicked in hard for me around 5 months...we'll see if it happens this time.

Work- I went back to work, 20 hours/week when Mia was 9 months old. My Mom has her one day/week and we have a nanny that comes to our home 1.5 days/week to watch her. We LOVE the nanny, and don't want to let her go, so I think she'll continue to come on the same days, even when I am home in the beginning, just to keep Mia in the same routiene. That way they can go off to the park etc. while the baby and I sleep.

I'm guessing that I'll reduce my schedule even more after baby #2...maybe 12-15 hours/week? I plan to go back some time in the fall.

I know I'm at the tail end of the due dates (still well within the 1st trimester), but I am SO freakin' tired. Is anyone else still this exhausted? I could go to sleep right now (3pm) and not get up until tomorrow....yawn.

Telling- We still havn't let the cat out of the bag...but I bought DD a "Big Sis" shirt to wear on Xmas morning...so I guess everyone will know in a few days!

It's so nice to hear so many "all in moderation " replies to my food question. I honestly feel like there's so much pressure to do everything "just so" (especially when it comes to parenting) that one can be incredibly overwhelmed and frustrated by the all the well-intended advice.

boobs: Mine seem to be fuller and are definitely itchier(!!) but I haven't had to rush out to buy any new bras...since I'm barely a B I was kind of hoping for a little more growth. Wrighty!!!! Holy Cow girl, a B to a D? Your dh must be beside himself!

food: I've also been a carb addict in the morning and the afternoon and have very little appetite in the evening. I often find I'm hungry but just cannot decide what I want. However, I seriously can't get enough mac and cheese!

almostthere I too am so sorry. I wish you and DH the best.

Wrighty I can see a change though it is not dramatic. I can see what you mean by losing your waist. Too cute though!

nuhmah What a great little baby belly! I think the belly getting bigger is going to be the weirdest part of all this (well until we have to push a human being out of our vaginas).

Mia's Mama I was feeling pretty ok for a little while but the past 2 weeks have been really bad with regard to feeling tired. I sleep for 13 hours at night on the weekends and still take 2 hour naps.

Food I too have not changed my food intake a whole lot. I still eat lunchmeat (it is all the nitrates that are the concern not listeria) about 2x/week and I don't normally eat all the other "no-no's". But if I did I'd still eat them. I figure we have a whole lot more to be worrying about other than food.

Sex Heck ya! I don't think we'd be able to hold ourselves back from not finding out. I am too much of an information whore.

Boobs I'm so glad you posted Mia's Mama! I too am an itty bitty (34A) and am still an itty bitty (a little fuller 34A). They've grown but very minimally and I still fit in all my bras. I was worried that I'd have difficulty breastfeeding if I don't grow and am glad to hear that I'll probably be ok.

lizard- Happy Birthday!

Mia's Mama- A friend of mine would tell me about her complete and total exhaustion when she was pregnant, but I never fully understood until now! I could sleep for 15 hrs only to need a nap once I get up! There have been afternoons at work where I just stare at my computer screen b/c I am way too tired to do anything else. It has recently gotten a little better, but I'm still pretty tired.

Sex of the baby- I cant make up my mind on this one! I've always said that I want to find out but the past few weeks I've changed my mind. I dont know. I have until 20 weeks to figure it out.

Food- I'm not a big lunchmeat eater, so this one hasnt really bothered me, but my doctor told me that you'd have to eat TONS of lunchmeat to even worry about it. I have avoided the soft cheeses, but if I order something and it's on it, I'm not going to worry about it. Everything in moderation! Oh yeah - and i'm not giving up my coffee. One cup a day makes for a happy momma!

Boobs I was a 38B/36C when I got my BFP and theey have grown a little. You can tell looking at them they are fuller (well, DH and I can, cuz no one else seems them braless :p ) My Areola (sp?) have gotten much bigger. I had a breast reduction about a year ago and my plastic surgeon told me I would have a 95% chance of being able to BF but I'm a little nervous because I didn't get much sensation back in my nips so I don't know if I'll be able to. :( What a bummer!

Gender DH wants to find out-actually he thinks it would be cool if he knew and I didn't. I didn't want to at first, but now I'm leaning toward finding out.

Food I will eat cold lunchmeat as long as I buy it and know that it has been properly refrigerated. If I go to Subway or someplace like that I will have it heated. As for the cheeses-I'm not a big fan of blue cheese or feta. I prefer swiss and provolone. I'm a plain jane. lol.

Amaye--The quad screen is a better test than the triple screen in that it looks for one more problem.

MMK--I know a lot of people feel that way about the quad test/triple screen. For me, though, last time it had the opposite effect in that my risk went down and made me feel a lot better. Of course, if I had a false positive, I'm sure I wouldn't have felt so good.

Food--I am probably the one you want to talk to if you want to feel guilty. ;) With my age and diabetes, I figure I have enough going against this child already, so I am fairly vigilant about what I put in my body--interestingly, I'm even more strict than I was last time, instead of what I hear usually happens with subsequent pregnancies (i.e. last time I drank diet soda until around 6 weeks. This time, I stopped after I ovulated). The problem with the "everything in moderation" philosophy is that it doesn't really hold true for some of the bacteria that may be in lunchmeat, sushi, soft cheeses, etc. Even a little bit of the bad bacteria can multiply inside you and cause big problems. The Listeria that everyone mentions causes food poisoning in normal people, but in pregnant women, a bad case of it can really harm you and cause a miscarriage. (I teach Microbiology at a college, so I know a fair amount about this stuff, for better or worse. ;))

Lizard--Happy Birthday!

So I am like Lolavix a bit cautious and a bit of a worrier, but I also agree that everything in moderation doesn't hold true if you're trying to avoid food poisoning. Yes, statistically, it's unlikely you will get anything from lunchmeat or brie, but it is possible even if you eat it once and could be devastating.

Same with the wine, really. As I understand it, there are crucial moments of development in the first trimester and if you happen to drink during one of those, something very bad could happen. Since they don't know when those are, they just recommend you don't drink at all. Again, I don't think a half glass of wine is likely a problem, just that it possibly could be.

Anyway, I think a lot of it is your own personal comfort level, and I wish I didn't worry quite so much!

So I eat tuna very rarely now because of mercury. Won't eat swordfish, mackerel, salmon at all (though some salmon may be ok?).
Won't eat lunchmeat or hot dogs unless heated until steaming.
I won't eat lox (mercury, smoked means it's not cooked?).
I will eat goat cheese if it's pasteurized and if it's made in the US and preferably if it's hot (on a pizza or something).
No brie or anything foreign. No blue cheese.
Mostly no diet soda or anything with artificial sugar although I am not as concerned with this.
No coffee. No caffeine except in tiny amts (I'm ok with the occasional hot chocolate).
No raw sushi. No raw fish at all.

I do miss coffee and red wine and the occasional margarita.

Oh and as my dr's office reminded me, no "street drugs!" Ha.

Wow, so many responses!!

mkvhI'm also reading Pregnancy Week by Week and l love that book and the pictures! I'm only 9w4d so I'm not yet up to 11weeks but it's amazing to see how the baby is growing and developing. It's such a temptation to read ahead.

Klav I'm still have m/s especially in the evenings. By the evening, nothing looks good and l can barely eat. l just try to eat a small meal and try to eat a fruit to fill me up. Luckily for me, I'm not throwing up.

[BFood[/B]I'm also a big believer in moderation but for the first trimester, I am being very cautious as the baby develops a lot now. I have kept away from lunch meat, soft cheeses, sodas, wine (this one hurts!) and raw sushi (have eaten cooked sushi). The only thing I haven't been able to give up is my coffee but l drink the machine cappucino which has very little caffeine so that's not too bad.

One question - l always thought that salomon was good??? Does anyone know? I need to go do more research.

Wow, a September thread!! Time is really flying. I realized that we found out I was pregnant 2 months ago already. It doesn't seem like that long! And in just a couple months we'll find out what we're having. It's amazing.

Speaking of time flying, I will start the 2nd Trimester thread sometime after the new year... probably in 2 or 3 weeks? I figure I'll do it when about half of us are past the 12/13 week mark.

Today is going to be a stomach-buster... my boss is taking me out to lunch today, then DH is taking me out for my birthday tonight. Then tomorrow we're having a big Xmas lunch at work! I hope I feel well enough to partake in everything, maybe I can gain back a pound or 2... lol. I think my cold is gone, but I got a nosebleed today. I've never had one in my whole life! I looked it up on Babycenter and it says they're common in pregnancy because of increased blood flow and whatnot.

Have a great day ladies!

foods: This one is easy. I don't eat sushi or soft cheeses anyway, and I don't have lunchmeat that often. We did go to Subway a couple weeks ago and I had them toast my sandwich, although I prefer my coldcuts cold (HATE Quiznos). I prefer to play it safe because I had food poisoning once and I lost a lot of weight and was very dehydrated, and I wouldn't want to go through that while pregnant because having me in such a weakened state might also affect the baby.

drinking: I drink 3 or 4 times a year--either rum & coke or a daiquiri--so a few months off is no biggie at all and I don't even notice it. I hate the smell and taste of wine and beer and have a huge aversion to them right now.

boobs: They're bigger, but no huge, although DH says they are. I had the most noticable breast changes with my first pregnancy in 1992.

nausea/vomiting: I'm going longer between vomit sessions, but it still sneaks up on me and I hate it. I never had it this bad with DS (I threw up twice--TWICE!) or even DD. Small meals don't help. Bland foods don't help. If this lasts all 9 months I'll be miserable.

maternity clothes: I got my ON order last night. I ordered the low rise denim skirt (love it!), two pairs of real waist jeans (the denim trousers and the embellished pocket jeans) and the velvet top in the turquiose color (love it!). Everything fit. In fact, the pants fit so well I think I should have ordered the low rise jeans instead, because I feel I might not get much use out of these, even with the elastic all the way open. I was going to order the low rise ones but got spooked because I saw a thread about how the low rise ones fall down, but the skirt is perfect, and as DH reminded me, I have a booty to hold the pants up. Not sure if I'm going to keep the pants or exchange them for the other ones. I may order the others and decide what to return later.

testing: I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. I'm 36 and will turn 37 less than a month after the baby arrives. I kind of just want to enjoy things.

sex: I had left it up to DH to decide if we'd find out the sex. I've already done it both ways. With DS I didn't find out, and with DD I did. But DH has never been through this at all. Well, he says he wants to find out if it's possible. I don't know if I want to tell everyone, though.

Klav,

Yes, I am. Although I haven't been getting sick, just feeling that way. Although last night was really bad, I kept gaging after my workout and really thought I wasn't going to make it.

Do you get so nauseated & hungry but don't feel like anything at all?

mkvh

Only 6 more days! It will be here before you know it.

Can't wait to see those belly shots.

I think I'm going to try smaller meals at night, even though DH says I'm already doing that now.

I've been sooo super tired. I think someone else mentioned this a while back. So far I have yet to get any energy back, I hope that is not the case on my trip. I don't want to spend the whole time sleeping although it might be good for me.

DH is worried about the difference in this Dr. idea about being able to ski and the other Dr. said NO. He is going to look into this issue more. Although I would not ski challenging terrain like mogels and double diamond runs like I normally do, I would like to ski blues and greens for about a half day maybe not every day either. I don't know if that would hurt, although I would definitely be having to pay attention to the other skiiers to avoid danger.

At Vail though it should not be too bad, normally people who ski there have been skiing for years.

Happy Birthday, LIZARD! :)

Had my second appointment today. They took my weight (gained 4 pounds total so far - all in my boobs, I think!) and blood pressure (fine) and listened for the baby's heartbeat with a doppler. She found it pretty quickly. 164 BPM, and she could hear the baby moving around quite a bit. So, all good news. Except for the fact that I probably won't get another u/s until week 20. :( LOL

Next appointment is 1/20.

I can't stop eating all day till I get home then it's all over with!

If this will make your DH feel any better, from my own research the baby is so well protected during the first trimester that falling isn't as much of a risk as it is later in pregnancy. And you are obviously an excellent skier and I think that makes a big difference in being able to keep in control at all times. I always do half days just once per weekend, stick to the blues, and I pay a lot of extra attention to the people around me. I do stay off the greens - people are so out of control on the greens! :) When is your trip again? We're going up to Vail this weekend.

Hrmm. My tummy was huge last night, and I was sure that I had gained some weight. I got on the scale this morning, totally expecting to see a higher number, and it turns out that I've actually lost another pound. I am now down at least 2 pounds from my weight around conception.

I don't get it -- I feel like I'm eating whatever I want, whenever I want -- So shouldn't I be gaining some weight?

(Never thought I'd be complaining about losing weight! )

I ordered from Old Navy online. They have a big sale right now with $5 shipping for your whole order. And you can do returns at the store. I was really concerned because I'm so small, but the XS fit me. :) I'm going to order some more stuff soon.

Lindybug:

I feel the same way about my weight gain is all in my boobs too!
Don't feel too badly about not having an ultra sound till 20 weeks, I have to wait till then too. It must have been so cool to hear the heartbeat, maybe next visit for me.

Klav

I also have been getting really sick around dinner and afterwards till I go to bed.

Carla

Where do you get the crystalized ginger? I'll have to try that.

ShelbyMay

I'm sure you'll make up for the loss in the second trimester.

Have fun in Vail this weekend! You'll have to update me on the conditions - we will be there January 3 - 9th. I envy you living in Denver, I hear it is 60 degrees there today - it is still cold here although we are supposed to get a warm up right before Christmas.

Thanks, for the information I'll be sure to update my DH on your research. Good idea to stick to the blues only!

Just poping in really quick to answer thisOne question - l always thought that salomon was good??? Does anyone know? I need to go do more research. My m/w said salmon is ok as long as it is from the ocean and not farm-raised. She said the farm-raised ones have higher levels of mercury. I take a fish oil supplement everyday to get my omegas so I don't have to worry about getting enough fish.

Happy Birthday Liz!!

Again, I'm sorry I'm so behind.

almostthere--I'm so sorry for you and your DH. Take care.

LMG--I am Vietnamese and my DH is Jewish (Russian ancestry). We be 'jewamese' :)

nausea--I thought I skipped all m/s, but I am experiencing some mild nausea around dinnertime. Not complaining though. My last pregnancy, I was nauseas 24/7 for about 15 weeks.

telling--my family and some close friends at Christmas/Hanukkah. I made Taya a shirt w/ rhinestones that spell "Big Sister." Going to do a "diaper change" during dinnertime and have her come out with the shirt on.

boobs--no change--like my last pregnancy. Bummer. :p What worries me most is that I'm going to have breastfeeding challenges again. I shudder to think about BFing. It's sad. :(

eating--I'm about most things in moderation. I eat sushi, but I don't eat it too often--only bc it'd be too expensive. I eat at reputable restaurants that I've dined at for years. I didn't even think about the lunchmeat I ate yesterday. I think with a toddler in tow, things slip pass you more this time around. I'm not a big drinker so giving up drinking isn't hard to do. But, I will have a sip to a 1/2 glass a wine here and there throughout my pregnancy. I have a few OB friends & family. They all say that as far as the sushi/cheese bacteria thing goes is that your baby always gets what it needs. You might suffer, but your baby really won't. I'll risk it for sushi. :p Again, it's not like I eat it with wild abandon. I don't eat tuna and have not had any caffiene. I'm sensitive to caffiene so I can imagine how my baby who can't metabolize the caffiene well would feel. I do miss the Starbucks Holiday Spice Lattes though.

screening--update. Luckily, I found a place at UCSF that will do the screening for almost half the price I was quoted through my hospital. They even told me it might be covered. The NT is basically just a ultrasound. The person I talked to told me that they will bill me just for an u/s. :) Why can't my hospital do that?!@#???

Happy Holidays, mommas!

Makena that is really cool your dr's office does the 3d/4d ultrasounds. Sorry I wasn't clear--the FDA recommends against having anyone who isn't a doctor do them (there are a lot of stores/private places now) that do. A doctor would be great! My dr's office just does 2d.

Oh and Soulmate is right--it's the mercury issue with the salmon, so in moderation would be fine. I just find it hard to figure out whether fish is farm or ocean raised sometimes (like in restaurants).

This is what we're doing too...rhinestones and all ;) . Funny, we had a Christmas celebration with My dad/step-mom last night and Mia and I answered the door (she had her shirt on)...no one said a thing until I finally asked at dinner..."sooo...anyone notice Mia's shirt?!"

Then of course they were both like: "YES! But we didn't want to say anything...just in case that wasn't really what you were trying to tell us"... duh. ;) They are both excited- though it's a little different the second time around I guess. We'll do the same with the rest of the family on Christmas eve...hopefully they are a little quicker. I think the "diaper change" idea is good...may have to borrow it. :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful friday and has a safe weekend holiday !!

I took CarlaB's advice and tried the ginger thing! and remembereed I hate ginger too spicy? for me but ate a few bites of it anyway. DH could not find the crystallized stuff but found some other stuff with suger on it and some ginger chews at trader Joes. So not sure if it was that or the second Zantac or the ginger ale DH brought home for me but last night I did not puke!! I'm soo happy I did think I was a few time but I did not!!

I shop at a bit of a crunchy supermarket, so I can get the crystallized ginger (also called candied ginger) in their own packaging there. I think you should be able to find it at your regular supermarket.

Happy Holidays to you all! And those of you sharing the news with your families, best of luck!!

Hi Girls,
I have not been around in a while. My son has been getting his molar so between that and the sheer exhaustion that I feel, I have not been on the computer for a while. I have also had terrible ms and no appetite what so ever. In fact, I think that I have even lost a few pounds. Quite different from my pregnancy with my son.

Well, we will be having a low key Christmas in So Cal this year. We will also be telling our family the big news. Probably tonight!

Almostthere- I am thinking of you and your dh! Hang in there!

My next ultrasound is next Friday the 30th at 12wks. I am very excited. I am actually getting the first trimester screening done. It is both a blood test and ultrasound. It is completely covered by my insurance.

Happy holidays to everyone! And safe travels to all those who are flying or traveling!!!!!

Well, the entire family finally knows! DH has been putting off telling his dad and stepmom forever, and it has been driving me nuts! This is the 6th grandkid for them, and while they are excited, it just isn't "make your day" news for them.

His mom, on the other hand is so excited she can barely contain herself! She keeps telling me she will be sending money to purchase a new stroller, crib, carseat, you name it. I wish there was a smiley that could effectively say all this - :) and  . She floors me sometimes - I know she is just excited, though!

And, we just found out that my parents, his mom and step-dad, as well as his brother are all planning to be here in July for the birth. What family do you all have coming? Will there be lots of people around? I am getting a little anxious about this - do I really want all these people there? :(

I think both sets of my family will come. My parents are great--wonderful at being non-obtrusive and they understand we will need time alone as a new family too. And I'm relieved at the thought of someone to buy groceries and do laundry and keep things in order if/when I feel overwhelmed.

ShelbyMay

Family: Well, both of our immediate families are local, so I don't think we'll have many people coming in from out of town. I already told DH that I want at least one week before people start coming over to see the baby, and at least one month before we have out-of-town house guests! His family can be kind of overwhelming, and I know I will not have the patience to deal with that right after the birth.

On another note, I very well may have to strangle my DH. We've lived together for about 4 years, and in that time I have done 99.9% of the housework. Sure, he does the dishes most of the time and he mows the yard, but the rest is left up to me. Now that the baby is on the way, he has apparently decided to cram 4 years worth of home improvements and neglected housekeeping into about 1 month's time. And, of course, he thinks that I should jump up to help him with all of it -- and at the precise moment that he's interested in working on it. Hello, I'm not even out of the first trimester yet! I am freaking tired!!! We got the day off work today, and I was picturing a leisurely day of lounging about, reading the books I got for Christmas, maybe going to see a movie. Noooooooo -- as soon as I was out of bed this morning (hadn't even finished my bowl of cereal), he was all on my case about cleaning and organizing and moving furniture and deciding on paint colors. I mean, I really appreciate that he & BIL are going to paint the nursery, but does it ALL have to be done TODAY?!?

On maternity clothes, are you buying any yet? What brands have you found? I would really like (of course) not to spend much money, but at the same time, I need stuff that is professional enough for work (business casual). I was thinking about Gap Maternity, especially the sale stuff.

I also wonder though if it is too early to buy and we'll need different sizes at different points? My regular clothes basically still fit but are getting tighter. Anyone have thoughts?

I hope everyone had a great Holiday!

ShelbyMay - Sorry you are feeling so frustrated. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel when you start to feel better. I know how you feel though. For about 4 weeks, it was all I could do to get off the couch at night.

maternity clothes- I bought a bunch from Old Navy and Gap online. My DH has a Gap card and got a coupon in the mail for free shipping plus an additional 20% off at both stores, so I went a little crazy! But, i figure that I can just take it back to the store if it doesnt fit. I also received three cute tops as Christmas gifts, including one that says "Coming this summer". Adorable!

I have to say, my best gift was my ultrasound on Friday, Dec 23rd. It was so incredible to see the heartbeat and my little baby. I'll try to post the u/s pic soon. At first, the baby was curled up with his/her head tucked down to his chest, so he was measuring very small. Then, the nurse pressed on my stomach and the baby started moving around like crazy! He stretched out and we got a great measurement of 11w1d (I was 11w3d then). We could see his hands and feet moving around. It was awesome. The baby's hb was 160 and all my measurements were right in the middle of the normal range. It was so exciting and a big relief all at once!

My next doctor appt is January 20th.

Wow-- I made it to 12 weeks! I'm SO amazed by this whole pregnancy thing. I think it's going to surprise me every week...

Family: The only immediate family members that don't live in Orlando are Dan's dad, stepmom, and brother. They live in St. Louis. I DON'T think they they will be here for the birth or anytime afterwards-- mainly because of my FIL's job, but they could surprise us. I definitely see my mom wanting to help out, but I will welcome it with open arms. I'm not sure how involved Dan's mom will want to be, but I have no issues with her helping out either.

Maternity clothes: I can no longer sit in my "big" (size 8--a size bigger than normal) jeans without unbuttoning my pants-- so I'm thinking it's time to buy the maternity jeans. We got a nice giftcard to Gap for Christmas, so guess how I'll be spending it? :D

Nuhmah: Yay for the whole family knowing!! Sounds like you guys had a great Christmas!

ShelbyMay: So to hear about DH's sudden motivation to get EVERTHING done. Maybe this is "way" of accepting the pregnancy? Guys definitely react so much differently than women! Hopefully your hubby will calm down soon!

Tomorrow is our closing day/big move! I'm so ready for it to be over... better go finish packing. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!! (and is having a Happy Hanakuh) :D

Hi, just checking in real quick. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas! As for me, I really didn't. :( I mean, we went to visit the in-laws and that was all nice... it was fun to hang out and chat and whatnot. However, I'm seriously sick again. :( I'm making an appointment for either my OB or my general practicitioner, whomever will see me today. I've been throwing up since Friday and barely eating, so I'm really worried I'm dehydrated. This just doesn't feel like a normal cold to me (especially since it's lingered for nearly a week and a half now). Sudafed and cough syrup are doing absolutely nothing so I stopped taking it... I don't want to fill up my body with medicine if I don't have to. I've also been having terrible cramps since yesterday and they're worrying the crap out of me. I'm sure the baby's fine but I can't help but be worried.

Thread master- I was looking up front and realized that there was a miscommunication- My due date is June 28th and to update our gender prediction is a girl. My next appointment is January 11th and we will schedule our u/s after that.

Sorry for the quick hijack- Hope everyone had a great holiday or couple of days off. Ours was okay. I think I caught some sort of cold from one of my extended family members. My aunt who was hosting and her family were all sick. I wish I would have known since I don't think I would have come. I am going to call the dr. or nurse and see what I can take for my cold. Luckily it isn't in my nose at all it is just my throat and ears and bit of a fever. I tried to sleep it off yesterday and flush it out with a ton of water. Hopefully that will help nip it in the butt.

Ginger alert-- Starbucks has a delicious Gingerbread loaf with cream cheese and crystalized ginger on the top. Definitely worth trying.

Liz- That sounds like a horrible bug you got. I would definitely go to the doc ASAP. Just make sure that until then you are drinking a ton of water.

Maternity Clothes- I am going to have to buy a pair of black work pants today. They are pretty relaxed here so I think I am going to go check out Old Navy and buy a pair of their black yoga pants. I have a pair in grey and I love the waist band on them and they are so comfy. I am hoping that if I keep them in good shape no one will notice that I am wearing sweat pants to work.

So what is everyone doing for the New Year? My friend just turned 21 and I think we are going to have her stay the night and go to one of our local bars. It's all none smoking now and I love bar food so I don't mind being the DD. Plus I think if I tell the waitress/bartender that I am DD I will get all my soda/water for free all night.

I'm back from the doctor... I have a sinus infection. I got a script for Amoxicillin and a strict order to take it easy. He actually wants me to take a couple days off of work and relax. My boss said that was fine as well, so we'll see how I feel tomorrow. Funny enough, this was my regular GP because my OB hasn't bothered to call me back yet. :( I'm so glad I'm switching away from him.

Anybody get baby stuff already for Xmas? We got a stocking for the baby from DH's parents... just basic stuff like a receiving blanket, bibs, samples of stuff, etc. We haven't had Xmas on my side yet (not for 2 weeks) but I have a feeling we'll get things there too. Oh, and DH's older brother gave us a Bebe Sounds heart listener! I'm so excited to start using it, but I guess they don't work real early - 20 weeks is about the minimum. So I'm leaving it packed up so I'm not tempted to try it. :D

Maternity Clothes: I received my Old Navy order and am kind of disappointed. I thought the adjustable waitband pants would fit, but once I adjusted the elastic in tighter, it was all cinched up around my waist and bulky-looking. Plus, there was too much extra room around my hips. They look like toddler pants on me. :(

As for the shirts, apparently all pregnant women are supposed to be thrilled about showing off their newly-inflated breasts. Every single one of the v-neck shirts I ordered comes down farther than I am comfortable showing. I will have to order a couple of comfy camisoles to wear underneath all of those shirts.

Liz,

I did get a bouncer for the baby from my mother, she just had to get something for the baby. Plus the one I wanted is being discontinued so if I want that and the matching swing I better get them now cause once they are gone there will be no more.

Yay for all the baby stuff! Sounds like you had a good Christmas.

Sorry to hear about the cold, hope that you get better soon. Enjoy the couple days of rest. I wish I could do the same but I just have to make it though another three days and then I have a long awaited vacation.

ShelbyMay,

Sorry, to hear about the order from Old Navy not being what you expected. I have yet to get anything since I'm thinking I better wait till I'm starting to show at least.

Plus my mother asked about getting me jeans at Mimi at Christmas because I figure they will be the first thing I can't fit into anymore,
when they asked my mother what size I was pre-pregnancy they told her that I wouldn't be able to wear any of the jeans there. They went on to tell her they have a woman that works there that was a size or two larger than I was pre-pregnancy and the smalls are big on her.

My pants are so uncomfortable today, I think I may just give in and wear my baggy "toddler" pants tomorrow.

Baby Stuff for Christmas: We did not get much baby stuff for Christmas, as my mom thinks we should be spoiled separately for that. :D (Lucky us!) We did get one baby outfit, and that was nice because it made it seem more "real". Also, DH gave me a gift "from the baby", which was very sweet.

Something must be going around with our depressed immune systems! I hab a cod too :( I got really nervous this weekend. I got this little blister in my mouth and the only other times I've gotten it in my life was days before I m/c'ed and right before AF came. So all weekend I was really anxious but talking my self back to sanity. Well my brother sent me his rented doppler (SIL is due in March) and it arrived today. My baby is still ok!! And the h/b is in the 160s. I feel sooooo much better!

Lizard I'm so sorry for your sinus infection and still getting sick :( Neither is any fun.

ShelbyMay I tried on a pair of ON jeans that sound like that. They were also pretty scratchy. I got the Maternity Real Waist Sash Jeans and the look and feel pretty good. A bit of a plumber butt until you grow more though.

Telling people We told almost everyone this week and weekend!! I feel so free! The only people we have left are friends and my dad. I'm seeing my dad in person next week and will tell our close friends then too (we are going on a big trip together). I feel like a weight has been lifted and no longer have to be sneaky and lie. Oh, I haven't told my co-workers yet and will when we get back from vacation mid-January.

Every time I visit her I comment on how I need to come by more often! Where does all the time go???

Well just to update, Friday we had our vaginal ultrasound & it was excellent. The baby looks so cute & tiny! I was amazed that I could actually see a baby there. I am so used to looking at ultrasound pictures & trying to figure out what is what but this was easy. Maybe seeing it on the screen makes it easier.

So here is the ultrasound picture. The head is to the left kind of slanted & then you can kind of see the little arms & legs & the round belly. I don't know if you can see it on the scan but you can sort of see where the eyes & nose are on my copy.

You can post this picture up front... if there is room!

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/ablacadabla/scan0002.jpg

Everything at the doctor checked out good. All my tests came back good, the heart rate was healthy & the baby measured at 9 weeks & 1 day (on Friday) which puts me at a due date of July 27th. This is one day different then what I had been calculating.

I've been feeling okay for the most part... just off & on not so good. Luckily it doesn't last long.

I don't feel like I'm showing much yet, just lumpy & bloated!!

Maternity Clothes So far I've bought a pair of jeans because I only have 1 pair of regular jeans that will fit. And the only reason they fit is because they are a couple sizes to big & sit low on the waist. I bought these jeans from Old Navy & they fit pretty well now- I just have to tighten the elastic. I had bought some maternity shirts from Baby Style on sale before I was even pregnant just anticipating the day. I got a couple gift cards for Christmas & bought some clothes with them on-line. Hopefully everything will fit well.

Next doctor's visit is January 20th.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Had my twelve week appt and everything looks good...I am so relieved! The appts make me nervous. We heard the heartbeat--I find it very hard to distinguish my h/b from the baby's but my DH came and could tell the difference!

So we told everyone at Christmas!!! they were very excited!! so almost everyone knows now. a few cousins on my dad's side don't know. but I assume will know shortly. Christmas was good got a few things from Dh So... not much else. Sounds like everyone had a wonderful holiday!

I think that I'm getting sicker, rather than getting better. I haven't been getting sick but been more nauseated in the evenings than before and not able to eat very much at all. My DH is starting to get worried.

Family Visiting: Most of our relatives are local, and the ones that aren't wouldn't come just to see a baby. We have enough family gatherings spread throughout the year that they'd get a visit eventually.

Nesting/Getting House Ready: The most I've done so far is informing DS that he'll be switching bedrooms. He's right next to us right now (when we moved in, that BR was blue and had a very BOY wallpaper theme, and the front BR was light blue with no wallpaper border/decals and easier to repaint for DD. The 4th BR, which is currently the computer room and will be DS's new room, is on the other side of the house off the kitchen, but DS will be 14 shortly after the baby arrives, so it'll work out.
I think we'll be hiring a painter to redo the room because the paint is dark blue and there's a wallpaper border and cutouts, and I don't want DH to have to mess with that. I'm thinking of having it done during spring break. I'll proably have the computer room/DS's new room painted as well; it's off white right now.

Has anyone stared thinking of a nursery theme yet?

Maternity Clothes: I wore real maternity clothes this weekend for the first time this pgcy. I wore the Old Navy denim skirt with black boots and the turquoise velvet top. It was really cute. And I'm wearing the ON real waist denim trousers today. I need to order more stuff--tops and some pants other than jeans.

Shelby, did you order the smallest size, or did you go up? I can't remember if you've said how big/small you are, but I'm very petite (under 5')and was a size 2 when I got pg, and the Old Navy XS is working for me. From what everyone says, the best bets for smaller women are ON and Gap because their XS corresponds to a size 0-2.

The other thing that has helped me is that before I got pregnant I had gained a lot of weight because of work, but when I quit I quickly lost weight (no more stress eating) and I went down two sizes, so I've been using some of the size 4 stuff as transitional wear.

Sick: Aside from still having nausea and vomiting (I keep thinking it's tapering off, and then I have a sudden vomit attack--I hate it), I also either came down with a mild cold or allergy attack in the past few days.

Lizard, I'm so sorry you feel so bad! :( Get better soon.

Baby Gifts for xmas: Yes! I was very surprised, but my mom had a wrapped gift for "Baby" with a frog-themed baby towel set (to go with our current kid BR theme) and the same amount of cash she gave DS and DD.

Dry BBs/Nips: *raises hand* I think it's a combo of the cold weather and hormone changes. I might try Aveeno lotion.

Yeah, I've been putting lotion on them, but it doesn't seem to be taking care of the problem. Maybe I need a better lotion?

Clothes: I wore an 8/10/12 prepregnancy (depending on the cut and the amount of stretch ;) ) and am about 5'1". I got the Old Navy mediums, since they said they would fit an 8/10. Maybe they will fit better in a couple more weeks.

Today I am just wearing some non-maternity stretchy black pants and a comfy sweater. The elastic on the pants is tighter than it used to be, but it's bearable. SO MUCH better than the jeans I tried to cram my tummy into yesterday! Those went in the "prepregnancy clothes" box as soon as I got home last night!

Thanks, so much for the information although at this point in time I'm still fitting into all my normal clothing since all my clothing was on the roomy side to begin with. Although I'll definitely be looking at ON and GAP when I do need maternity clothing. I was between a size 0-2 pre-pregnancy and still am at this point, but I'm about 5' tall.

Do you mind me asking do you have trouble with the length? I always have to get everything shortened at the tailors.

Sophia

sunchaser26, the real waist denim trousers have a one inch hem, so I just flipped them up to look like cuffs and they're ok. I know if I continue having trouble ordering the short length (a few styles come in short and tall as well as regular, but they're always sold out!) I will probably have to hem things. Blah.

Nursery Ideas- We are doing a Winnie the Pooh Theme and have a mint green color that I want to put on one of the walls and leave the other two white with some sort of design. We already have the crib, the bedding, and a huge rug. We still need to get some sort of shelfing in there and a dresser. I may put my old dresser in there and splurge and get myself something nicer.

Dry BBs/Nips- I am in the same boat. I started putting baby oil on it and it seems to be doing the trick. My friend has a son and I learned many uses for all the baby products.

Well uncontrollable hunger set in again so I better go eat.

Just checking in real quick, I'm home from work today. My OB's nurse ended up calling me at 5:45 PM last night! I told her I'd already been to see my regular doc and I had a sinus infection. Well, she sounded a little put off and said "Well, normally you'd come see us but that's OK that you went to your regular doctor". Damn right it was, you didn't call me back until 9 hours after I called you!! Anyways, she asked some basic questions and I told her the only other thing worrying me was my bad cough and vomiting. They ended up calling in some Promethazine (also called Phenergan) with codeine for me. It's only a 5 day dose... I took it last night and slept for 13 hours straight. :( So I don't know if I'll take it again - I don't like being incapacitated for so long and the idea of codeine during pregnancy bugs me a lot. On a good note, I don't have any nausea or vomiting today.... heh. Still coughing like crazy though. I hope this goes away soon.

Nursery Ideas well the room is already painted green on top with a white chair rail and had 3-4inche stripes under the chairrail. in the same green with a lighter one in gloss. the green is sort that soft sea green. not to girly just soft. I did it when we moved in last year. I think were going with non-gender until we know then will add pnk or blue. I have this thing with dragonflies so I have a bluish light that that sort of looks like a mobile that the dragonflies light up that I wan to put over the crib and I have the green neting to put over the crib also... like at the head board. hoping it will keep kitties away from jumping in the the crib? So besides that we have not really talked about it but as soon as DH startes work on the basement I'm going to hopefully move the furnature that is there down and get a move on!! I think we are also going to go with cherry furnature but not sure it will look right against the white cheirrail? plus we want one that converts to atoddler bed then the twin bed.
Hey Liz you snuck in!! I have a bad cough too I have not taken anything yet. it has not gotten too bad.... I was going to look for that list of med's were allowed to take. I can't belive she was put off when She was the one that took so long to get back with you!!

Lizard, I can't believe the OB nurse gave you a hard time about going to your reg doc when she knew how long it took for her to get back to you. Unbelievable. At least you realized how unhappy you are with them early in your pgcy. Hope you're feeling better.

Nursery Ideas: I have a complete set of Beatrix Potter crib bedding that looks almost brand new. It was DD's. Aside from Peter Rabbit, it also has Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddleduck, and something else I can't recall at the moment. Maybe Benjamin Bunny. And I also have coordinating framed art to go with it. Since I'm out of work and don't plan on getting a full time job anytime soon (I'll be substitute teaching starting in Jan.), I don't want to spend a bunch of money if I already have a good bedding set. Of course, I haven't looked at it since 2 years ago, so I would need to check it again. The main color is a buttery beige/yellow, but there are also greens, blues, roses, and purples, and I was thinking that if we find out the sex we could paint the room one of those colors. I think I'd rather spend money on a nice convertible crib.

Maternity Clothes: I just bought a bunch of tops on Old Navy. I even paid full price for 3 of the new ones, which I was tryng to avoid, seeing as this is my last pgcy, but I really liked them and didn't want my size to sell out while waiting for a sale price. I got the dot and strip silk blouse in red, the button down shirt in pink and light blue, and the rest was on sale: 4 Perfect Ts in black, red, pink, and aqua, a black one-button cardi, and the black empire waist top with the line of sequins.

I'm still here lurking along. I'm feeling normal so this whole pregnancy thing is still a bit surreal for me. We told our families the news over Christmas. ILs are excited and my mom is warming up to the idea. I still haven't heard a word from my dad - maybe he's letting my mom speak for him. I'd like to wait to tell friends until after my next appointment on the 9th when we hear the heartbeat. The way I feel, I'd like more concrete proof that everything is still ok. However, DH is busting at the seams wanting to share the news as soon as possible.

Dry skin I love the Olay In Shower Lotion. I always have dry, itchy, flaky skin in the winter and the Olay does a wonderful job moisturizing.

Maternity clothes I'm just starting to think about getting new clothes? Is it worth getting pants a size larger than I normally wear or should I just skip ahead to maternity clothes? I need to get more button down shirts before going back to work next week - my chest is about to bust out of my current shirts.

I hope everybody who has been feeling sick gets better soon. Second trimester is just around the corner.

Ooh, Sophia, you lucky XS! I am looking at the Old Navy site right now, and everything I want is sold out in the M. :)

I did get one of these on my last order, though, and really like it. I started wearing it early and just let it be long and loose over stretch pants:

http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/350/350556/main/on350556-02p01v01.jpg

I also noticed that Target.com has a lot of their Liz Lange stuff on clearance, but I don't know anything about the fit or quality.

BTW, Sophia, thanks for your reply in my thread about abdominal tenderness. You know how sometimes you notice a small twinge and then you start worrying about it and you read stuff online about the worst case scenario, so you keep poking at the spot and then it hurts even more and you get even more worried? I think maybe that's what's been going on with me since last night. I will still be really happy when we get to hear the heartbeat on Friday and hopefully my doctor will tell us that everything is fine.

I had my appt today and we heard the heartbeat! It was so cool... I forgot to ask about the heartrate, though the Dr. just said it was 'normal'. I was totally freaked out for a couple of minutes though because the Dr. couldn't find it at first! He finally found it and then lost it- and then found it again (he said the baby seemed like it was really active). The Dr. did seem overly concerned-- because he said he could definitely feel growth, but I was totally stressing.

Once he did find it, I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief. Dan (who came with me) got this HUGE grin on his face as soon as he heard it-- I think it's real to him now too!

After we met with the Dr., we were brought to one of the nurses and she did all the paperwork they didn't do the last time I was there. Then they took 5 vials of blood and sent me on my way.

My next appt is scheduled for Jan. 25th. I'm starting my "rotation" and I'm meeting with another one of the Drs in the practice (there are 4-- two men, and two women-- I'm meeting with one of the women).

One really WEIRD thing about my appointment is that I've somehow managed to lose 6 lbs since my last visit. Maybe it was just retained water but I'm down to 144 from 150...and I've been eating like a PIG!

Maternity clothes-- I was TRYING to order some as I type this--- but my address cannot be found :( I'm going to have to call my brother and have my stuff shipped to his address instead!! Guess I'll try again tomorrow...

Nursey ideas - It's definitely been in the back of my mind since we moved into our new house (yesterday!), but we haven't made any real decisions on anything. We're still trying to decide on so much other stuff though! I know we'll get around to it at some point.

Dryness-- My BB's have been dry--- but my hands have been worse. I think that my skin is just more sensitive then usual. I hate the feel of lotion too-- I end up putting in on-- and then rinsing it off.

I have to go find something to wear to dinner tonight--- we're going to the Melting Pot to celebrate our anniversary, among other things. I have NO idea what I'm going to wear (or where any of my clothes actually are!!). Wish me luck!

By the way, did the doctor seem concerned about your weight loss? I lost one pound between 4 weeks and 8 weeks, and now I am down another pound at 12 weeks. Yet all my clothes are tight...? I don't think it's a huge deal or anything, but I wonder when my appetite is going to come back.

ShelbyMay I went to Target IRL looking at their maternity clothes. First of all, their maternity department was only 3 racks! I was not impressed with their clothes at all. They were scratchy, cheap looking, and smelled funny (chemical-like smell). Plus the color to the jeans were very out dated.

Quick check in-I've been horrible about getting online the last week or so. I hit 14 weeks yesterday, so I'm "officially" in the second trimester, even though I've been saying it for the last week or so. :p

Thanks for this information! I am not petite in that I am 5'5" but I prepregnancy I wore a size 0-2. I have noticed that some stores do not have XS in their maternity clothes which stinks b/c that is what I think I'm going to need. I just bought a bunch of clothes from Old Navy in size XS so I'm looking forward to seeing how they fit.

You are so lucky to have moved this early in your pregnancy! I wish I was in your situation. Our lease is up in June & the baby is due in late July. We are probably going to be moving after the baby is born b/c we want to move to a different area which I would not be able to do with my job. I'm not quitting until after the baby is here so we'll have to wait to move. Either way you look at it, moving at 8-9 months or with a brand new baby, both stink!

Sorry for all the posts... I forgot to mention that I picked up my new Rx. of prenatals today & was shocked to see that my co-pay for these prenatals is $50!!! My doctor said she is starting to prescribe these new prenatals that have the omega-3 fatty acid included with the prenatal. They are called OptiNate. Well because they are so new & not in my formulary, my copay went from $20 up to $50. I went ahead & got them but I am going to call her to see if she will write me a prescription for another kind & then I will ask if I can take the omega-3 pills put out by Enfamil (Expecta Lipil) because they are over the counter.

What is everyone else taking for their prenatal vitamins?

That is interesting about the new prenatals. I just take the store brand ...there is only one kind so far that I don't mind the smell of. the genetic counselor I saw thoguht prescription prenatals were kind of a scam since a lot are the same as the OTCs (or at least if you take an extra folic acid tablet with a prenatal multivitamin in some cases). Not saying I think the prescription ones are overpriced...I just think it's interesting that you need a prescription for some and that some have extra ingredients.

Hmm...

Prenatals - I am currently just taking the Target generics. The Dr. was cool with them - he actually prefers not to prescribe. I might check out the Expecta Lipil, I got a free sample yesterday at the Dr. office. I figure it DEFINITELY won't hurt :)

ShelbyMay - The Dr. was not concerned about the weight loss because he knows I am eating.... and I am definitely growing! He said it's normal to lose weight in the 1st trimester-- and to just make sure I am taking my vitamin and drinking plenty of water. I think we ALL have plenty of time, to gain plenty of weight in this upcoming trimester :)

Maternity clothes- I ended up shipping the clothes to my dad's address and bought a TON of stuff from Gap and Old Navy including 2 pairs of jeans (one Gap, one ON), 2 skirts (including that cute denim skirt you have Sophia), 2 pairs of dress/work pants, and a couple of shirts. All is well here. Ryan had a great Christmas and now everyone in my family knows that we are expecting.

Almost 13 weeks and still not in maternity. I feel HUGE though. I dread wearing it though! LOL!

Had my first trimester genetic screening (nuchal fold) which is an u/s and blood work. The u/s was cool and we should hear about the blood work later this week. But since we had all the genetic testing done when we lost Connor I dont expect anything to show up.

WE HAVE A HEARTBEAT!!!!

We had our 12w dr. appt. yesterday, and there's a baby in there for sure. It took the dr. a minute or so to find it. Seemed like an eternity! When I finally heard it, I wanted to cheer and high-five my DH. None of the teary stuff, which is a big surprise because I cry at EVERYTHING right now. The heartbeat was in the 150s, and I TOO have lost about 5 pounds. And I haven't even been sick!

In less exciting news, I had a migraine for 2 days this week. And of course Tylenol doesn't do a thing for me. Fortunately, I got to talk to my OB about it, and she prescribed Tylenol with coedine. Of course, it will render me unconscious for a day, but I would have welcomed that yesterday!

Christmas--I got a TON of maternity clothes from my family. And let me tell you...if you can get your hands on any H&M roll panel maternity pants (H&M quit carrying maternity), BUY THEM! They are awesome, and you can start wearing them IMMEDIATELY. But the do run small. I'm an 8/10, and the large is slim on me.

Shelby--first of all, you are awfully teeny tiny in your belly shots to be an 8/10/12! And I do agree that after wearing, the ON adjustable waist jeans feel a little bulky. But I'm thinking that will change QUICKLY!

Wrighty--HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, AND CONGRATS ON THE MOVE!

All the rest of the mommas--sorry I am lame and am not doing SOs...so much happened in here this week while I was gone that I can't catch up!

Prenatal Vitamins: I'm taking Prenate Elite, which are by the same company that puts out Optinate. I'm not sure how much the copay is. I was tired and went to sit down and DH paid.

Weight: I've lost a couple pounds. I measured again and my hips are 1 inch smaller but my waist is one inch bigger. I know it's not unusual for soem women to lose a little weight the first tri due to m/s, and I hope my m/s goes away soon so I can start gaining.

Maternity Clothes: I had looked at Target a couple times, but they have practically nothing in-store, and the sizes are too big for me anyway. I don't think they make the size I'd need.

Wrighty: Happy Anniversary!

Does anyone else feel abnormally lightheaded lately? I have always had problems with low iron (never anemic, but I was once turned away from giving blood at LifeBlood because I was one point under the requirement), and I think my blood sugar fluctuates pretty wildly, too -- Like, sometimes I will feel perfectly fine and then all of a sudden I have to drink some juice. On Christmas Eve, I was out buying candy for DH's stocking, and I actually had to open an orange juice and drink it in the store because I thought I was going to pass out. :o

I will bring it up with my OB tomorrow, but I just wondered if this is abnormal.

I had iron deficiency anemia with both DS and DD, and I've also had in on and off when not pg. and had been taking iron supplements anyway. I was surprised that with this pgcy I haven't had to give blood at each visit because I was apparently fine at my first visit when they did all the bloodwork, although now that I think about it, the last 2 times my reg. doc checked my blood I was ok.

I took it upon myself to change the EDD. It sort of splits the difference between the other two EDDs. This also correlates with the fact the u/s printout I have clearly states the gestational age as 9.2 weeks, whereas the OB had apparently rounded off to 9 weeks and I had based the EDD on that when I got home and figured things out. New EDD is July 12, and I think it's the most accurate so far.

Threadmistress, please change my EDD to July 12, 2006, and also, my next appt. is on Jan 6 at 9:30 AM.

ShelbyMay- I have had that in the past I brought it up to my dr. They tested my blood and said everything looked fine, but I am suppose to call if I feel dizzy or black out. They also told me to make sure that I keep snacks on me.

Prenatals- I am taking the Walgreens generic brand. I am thinking about taking some of the omega-3 pills. I'll have to check to see if my prenatals already have it. Just so you all know- Peanuts are a good source of omega 3 as well, but I have heard old wives tales that if you eat too many peanuts your baby may get an allergy to it. Not sure if it true or not.

Well, I had another OB appointment today... we got to hear the heartbeat! :) My doctor said it might take a second, and then she placed it right on there. Hahaha... she said the same thing about the u/s we had at 9w.

My next appointment is January 26

Question: My OB seems so scattered. I walk out of my appointments feeling so let down! Never excited, and defenitely feeling slightly confused. I have only seen her twice... I really like the nurses and there are other doctors in the practice. Should I give her another appointment or two, or should I begin seeking other options? I feel like I am doing a lot of research and such to "supplement" what she is telling me, but I don't want to have to depend on that. She doesn't even say goodbye when the appointment is over! She just leaves!

Sorry in advance for such a long post... just trying to catch up for the day. :)

Soulmate My doctor said the reason she liked the omega-3 in the OptiNate is because is it not derived from fish so you do not have to be concerned with too much mercury intake. Are you concerned about this with the fish oil you are taking? I did check into the Expecta Lipil & found out that they do get their omega-3 from the same source as the OptiNate (microalgae).

Has anyone else started having leg cramps?
I have not had any leg cramps yet but my doctor warned me about this at my last visit & suggested that I drink gatoraide (sp?) along with my daily intake of water & this will help the leg cramps. I was kind of surprised at the suggestion but I'll definately try it if I get any.

the genetic counselor I saw thoguht prescription prenatals were kind of a scam since a lot are the same as the OTCs (or at least if you take an extra folic acid tablet with a prenatal multivitamin in some cases). Not saying I think the prescription ones are overpriced...I just think it's interesting that you need a prescription for some and that some have extra ingredients.
The thing that I like best about Rx. prenatals is that they often have the slow release iron so it doesn't give you a stomach ache. I've also noticed that the Rx. pills are smaller than the over the counter kinds. In addition to this, I have a cafateria plan (medical reimbursement) at my job so I can take pre-tax dollars to use for medical costs. With this I can be reimbursed for Rx. prenatals but not over the counter prenatals b/c they are considered vitamins.

Kellyann1972
However by month 8 I needed to get some smalls cause I outgrew them.
You outgrew the XS??? Don't tell me that! I was hoping I could wear all the same sized maternity clothes the whole pregnancy. Did you outgrow them in the belly or in other areas?

SophiaDP
As far as Target maternity clothes their selection does stink. They do however offer more sizes on the internet than they do in the store. Not sure if they fit well though.

I didn't know that they tested so early for gestational diabetes! How did they know to test you this early? I do have a family history of gestational diabetes (my mom with several pregnancies & my sister with her pregnancy) but my doc said they would test much later for that.

Is anyone having trouble drinking the amount of water that we are suppose to consume during pregnancy? I drink water every day but most days I can only manage to down about 24 oz plus about 8 oz. of juice. My doctor suggested putting fruit in water, limes, lemons, cucumbers, etc. but when I tried strawberries I didn't like it too much. I am slightly concerned about this because my hair dresser was recently pregnant & delivered about a month early because her amniotic fluid was so low which the doctor had warned her about earlier in the pregnancy & told her to drink much more water. Does anyone have any tricks to make it easier to drink a bunch of water?

Would seltzer or club soda count as water? Sometimes the sparkling stuff is easier to drink. Can you mix half water and half juice to give it a little more flavor?

Can't Wait, very interesting about the prenatal prescription pills being smaller. Mine are huge...I really had a hard time taking them at first.

Oh on the peanuts--I wouldn't call it an "old wives tale," --I would just say they don't really know yet. I have heard from doctors that IF you have a family history of peanut allergies, you may not want to eat any nuts in the third trimester (some people think exposure by the mother could irritate/make an allergy for the baby more severe). But I don't think the research has really been fully done yet--it's more of a theoretical risk.

Can'tWaitAre you concerned about this with the fish oil you are taking? There is no real documentation that there is mercury in any fish oil supplement. They say that during the processing of the fish oil the mercury separates from the oil (it being a heavy metal) and is not contained in the pill. My doc says to only take one pill/day though just in case plus that is all we need.

Can't_WaitI didn't know that they tested so early for gestational diabetes! How did they know to test you this early?
I don't have a family history but I guess when they did the first work up of blood work I failed the test. So they made me do an hour one and I failed that one I'm due to go back in a week to do a 3 hr. test. I guess it wasa just one of the test's she does when you have your blood drawn the first time.?

I'm also taking the OptiNate but right now I'm haveing a tought time with the fish pill I can taste it every time and most of the time I have to fight to keep it down. I started taking them later in the day with some food becuse I have been feeling awful in the am.
Today was the first bout with M/S actually in the morning this time. Dh was like you should stay home or do a half day.... I'm here at work and will see how it goes.. this am was ruff !
I've heard that about nuts my DH is allergic, not peanuts but tree nuts, to them but when I ask the Dr she said she had not heard anthing like that but I'm still not eatiing alot of them.
NOt having issues with water have you tried like fruitopia or flavered waters? those are good soem are really sweet or even propel!

I definitely am... I used to drink a ton of water pre-pregnancy but now I have a hard time getting in enough. I have tried having a bottle on my desk and drinking propel but I'm still doing a lousy job at it.

Maybe on vacation I can focus on my water intake more.

Klav: is your m/s worse now than ever? I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't really have any morning sickness during the first couple of months but than these last couple of days I have felt BAD in the morning....a lot of gagging and dry-heaving but no actual throwing up (mind over matter!). It's weird because I figured at this point I should be in the clear.

As for water, I generally drink a lot but these past couple of days I haven't been and am actually wondering if that is what has contributed to me not feeling very well in the morning. So yesterday I kept one of those 20oz bottles next to me all day and drank a bunch. Not sure if this is the reason or not but I do feel much better this morning than the last couple of days...just a little more motivation to get that needed drinking in!

Does anyone else feel like they're kind of in the boring stage of pregnancy? Does that sound awful? I just feel like I'm sitting around waiting to really feel/look different. I'm not ready for maternity clothes yet and too superstitious to buy in advance (even though I'm missing all the good sales!). I'm also not ready to work on the nursery or buy anything baby related for the same reason as above. I feel like I'm just kind of in this hold pattern.

MMK I think today it was bad because I'm also Sick.... stuffy, runny nose , cough and congestion and my body and M/S decided it did not like it this am. I only had tea this morning but that cam back up when I went to leave for work. and a few bit's of dinner if that's possible... plus everything that had drained from my nose and went down my throat . yuck!
So that was the worst I've had it in the mornings.
I've been trying to drink atleast 2-3 bottles a day but my boss for the past couple of day's has not replenished the water... so I'm down a bit trying to bring some from home and when I get lunch. brought OJ to try to help with fighting the cold. not sure were I got it?

Yes! Maybe it would be more exciting if I had waited to tell everyone about the pregnany... but right now I feel like I'm just sitting around and waiting to look pregnant :) I do notice a change in my body-- but it's NOT that noticable to others yet.

I did break down and buy maternity clothes this week though, but I didn't go overboard. Who knows what I am going to fit into in a couple of months!!

Water: I've been bad lately, but we just got our new fridge yesterday-- and a had a water filter thingy. Now I have absolutely NO excuse! I do know that anything with water in it is considered water-- if you can't stomach water try fruit juices (the less sugar, the better obviously) or gatorade! Soup is also a good source of water-- as long as it's low in sodium.

klav: post-nasal drip! Yes, this is exactly what has been going on with me the past couple of mornings and I didn't even put two and two together! That stuff running down the back of your throat is enough to make you sick when NOT pregnant let alone when you are!

water-When my m/s was really bad, I just could not bring myself to drink water. I switched to gatorade, ginger ale, or juice. However, I realized that part of the problem was drinking out of a water bottle, not necessarily the water. So, I've been pouring my water into a cup and it's much better. OH - and it has to be ice cold!

Water- I am doing really good about drinking water but for some reason, I do not do as well on days of my appointments, so it looks like I am still concentrated. I keep a 20oz bottle with me at work and I have chamomile tea first thing in the morning. I usually fill up the water 2-3 times and have 1-2 glasses of milk when I get home. I also try to drink a glass of water before I go to work so that I know that I am ahead of the game. We have a water cooler at work so it's nice to always have cold water.

Boring part of pregnancy- I still feel pretty bored and not that pregnant. I am starting to get my belly but it looks more like a beer belly. I keep telling my husband that the men at work look more pregnat than I do. :p I've felt a couple of small movements. I don't know if I want to call it the baby just yet. I am looking forward to more defined jabs and punches from the baby before I officially call it he/she moving.

I have a quick question... When are we planning on moving onto our 2nd trimester? I know I am one of the earlier ones... but I am just curious.

Are you ladies planning on going out for NYE? DH and I are going to a party (even though I'd really rather stay home in my jammies :p ). I had a dress that I was planning to wear, but when I tried it on a couple nights ago, I felt ridiculous in it -- mostly because my boobs are so much more, uh, noticeable than they were when I bought the dress!

Anyway, I freaked out and ordered a dress from Old Navy (the black maternity one) with express shipping. I hope it gets here today or tomorrow before the party! I know it must seem silly to pay $15 to ship a $28 dress, but it made sense at the time. :o

My OB appt is this afternoon, so I'm just sitting here "working" and wishing the hours away....

NYE: Fortunately for me, dh doesn't really feel like doing anything this year. We are in the middle of remodeling our kitchen and doing everything ourselves so having a long 3 day weekend is a perfect opportunity to get stuff done rather than go out and party. We'll probably be pretty lame...order in and maybe get a movie. Sounds good to me right now!!

Just checking in real quick. I'm starting to feel much better, thank goodness. Also, today I noticed that I didn't have any m/s and I was really craving a Greek salad (which has been on my ick-list since being pregnant). I really hope that's a good sign that things are looking up. Both DH and I are really worried about my weight loss and my inability to eat, so this weekend I'm going to pick up some Ensures and start drinking those whenever I feel I can't stomach a meal. I figure something like that is much better for the baby than some crackers or noodles.

If I feel up to it this weekend, I plan on going out and getting some new pants I can actually fit into. My poor work slacks need to be retired ASAP. Definitely don't need any tops yet... my MIL bought me a nice maternity top for my birthday, but when I tried it on it looked so silly and droopy. I can't believe I'll be able to fill it out in a few months. :)

NYE - We got invited to 2 parties this year (compared to zero last year, not sure how we got popular LOL), and we RSVP'ed to one of them. It's just casual dress, no biggie. I want to go, but we'll have to see how I'm feeling. Plus, I'm supposed to be on call for work this weekend... sigh.

Water - For the most part I'm doing well with it. Since I've had this sinus infection I've been extra diligent in drinking more water so I don't get dehydrated. When I really really don't want water, I make myself drink milk or juice, and every once in a while a soda (like, once a week at the most). Soda really doesn't sound good to me anyways.

Boring part of pregnancy - I wish it was! I'd love for this time to be boring and without incident. :D

In case I don't post again this weekend.... have a wonderful new years!!

Klav- I'm sorry. I meant when are we switching the board to second trimester? Right now the thread title says 1st trimester. I think I remember someone saying after the new year, but I'm not sure if that was here.

New Years- We are going to a poker party with some of our coworkers. The guys are having poker in the garage. I would normally join but they'll be smoking like chimneys out in the garage. I'll be inside with the girls playing with fondue.

In the flyer it says that it's chocolate fondue and the basic fruit would be provided. I think it is safe to assume strawberries will be there so do you think it would be appropriate to grab angel food cake and whip cream for short cakes. I was also thinking maybe I could bring vanilla ice cream and we could make sundaes with the chocolate and different fruits. Let me know what you think is a better idea.

Cant Wait, yeah I outgrew them, bought new smalls and dont you know had Ryan 2 weeks later! All that money wasted. Since I didnt lose the last 5 lbs I am guessing I can wear them this time.

But usually in month 8 most of my friends had to get some pants about a size up than they had before. SUCKED cause who wants to buy clothes at 8 months PG!

NYE we are going to a wine tasting (dont I sound excited!) I love wine but none for me.

Got my results back from my first tri testing and all is good which made my weekend!

Well, i just finished reading 20 some pages, and am attempting to get caught up!

I managed to catch the flu last week (at first i thought m/s had set in - thank God it was just the flu, cause I would have never made it through pregnancy feeling that way!). We had a sonogram scheduled for Friday morning, and I was so happy to see the baby made it even though I couldn't keep a thing down all week!

This was our second sonogram, and we got to see the baby actually move! It was the coolest thing, and made it so much more real. One good thing about being in the care of a fertility specialist at this point - we have a sonogram about every two weeks, so it's nice to have the continuous reassurance that everything is still ok.

Questions - Ok, here are some questions for you all:

1. Has anyone else's hair just totally gone to shit since being pregnant?

2. What has your OB told you about hair color (highlights) and the spray-on tanning (you can or shouldn't do it)?

3. Is anyone taking a DHA supplement, or heard anything about it?

4. what do you guys think about using a used breast pump? I've read that you shouldn't (even if you replace the tubing), but some hospitals rent them out, so obviously they are being shared?? A friend offered to give me hers, and its the exact model I planned to buy ($300)... i hate to pass it up, but obviously I want to be safe.

5. Do any of you plan to have someone other than your DH in the delivery room with you, and if so, what does your DH think about it? I want my mom and sister to be there, but my DH seems freaked out at the thought of anyone else (besides the medical staff) seeing "it all". I figure it's my body, but I don't want him uncomfortable.

Hope you all have a safe and happy weekend!!!

Thank you Liz- You're the best! I can't wait until everyone is out of their first trimester. Preggo Bellies Here We Come!!

Hair- My hair has been fine for the most part although this morning I couldn't get it to cooperate at all. I read last night that shampooing every day dries out your hair and I guess my hair is going to need a readjustment period.
Hair Color- I have been told it is okay to get my hair colored but I don't use any peroxides and I go to a salon that knows that I am pregnant and are aware of what is and is not okay. I'm not sure about highlight or self tanners.
Delivery room- I think only DH will be joining me. I would love to have my mom in there but she is so easily queazy, she didn't want to be in the room when she was giving birth. It'll probably be better that way so that the two of us can share that moment.
I don't know anything about your other questions- I wish I could be more help.

NYE - That's tomorrow, right? It's been SOOOO insane the couple of days, that I am looking forward to relaxing. We might have my brother and his girlfriend over-- but that's as "party" as it's going to get! Most of our good friends are out of town until Monday-- so we don't feel like we will be missing out on anything.

Hair - Dude, my hair is out of control. It's not that it looks bad when I can tame it-- but I'm having trouble taming it! When I went to the Dr the other day I swear it looked like my head was about to take flight I had so many fly aways  It has definitely grown and is getting thicker-- which would be GREAT if I had thin hair, but that's never been a problem.

Breast pump - From what I've read (which honestly isn't much) I think as long as you buy new "parts" for the pump it's very safe. I mean- hospitals rent them out, so it can't be THAT bad.

Delivery room - I only want my DH in there. I don't think I will mind more people being with me while I am in labor-- but as soon as it's time to push I really just want it to be me and Dan (and the nurses and Dr). It's not a matter of anyone seeing it all, but more of a "moment" kinda thing.
