http://www.brown.edu/Courses/BI0105_Miller/image/turkey.gif

Who we are:

We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.

Your threadmistresses for this thread are ellidew AND Mom2Cole! Feel free to Email Us! (wl.challenge@gmail.com)

Want to join the fun?!?

We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

Feel free to join at any time during the challenge.
It’s better to join NOW than to wait until we start a new challenge! ;)

You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page and post a reply with the following information. None of this info is a must but it helps to learn a little bit about each other.

Hey, I still don't know exactly when this starts or ends! Can you believe I actually do well on standardized tests? When it comes to message boards though, I never seem to find the right information...

I BROKE THROUGH INTO THE 170s...on my heavy scale...It's kind of sad to be so happy about this since 3 years ago I'd never seen 170 in my life and it was inconceivable to me I'd ever weigh that much but now...well, I guess you take whatever comes...

I weighed myself at the gym last night. I lost 3 pounds! I'm so excited, this is the first time in I don't know how long that the number has gone DOWN, even if it's just a few pounds. :)

Congratulations Miel! That's awesome.

miel, This challenge starts this coming Sunday October 30th. Your weigh in weight this week will be your current weight and when you weigh in next week that will be week 1. Fwiw: The first post of the challenge lists the dates and how many weeks it will last. When one challenge ends the other begins and any members from the previous challenge use their final weigh in from the previous challenge as their current weight. I'll also take down the banner in the first post that says it hasn't started yet ;) When i remember of course! ha ha

If you want to use your current 170's weight please post it in RED and i'll update your profile. OR i can put your profile into challenge #2. CONGRATS BTW! I can't wait to get there and you should celebrate EVERY SINGLE success! Even if it is losing .2 lbs!

ksull, Congrats on the loss of 3 lbs! That's awesome and i hope you are proud of yourself! Since our first weigh in isn't until next week there isn't any info to update for you here. Would you like me to list your profile and loss on Challenge #2? It'd be a waste to lose and not be able to share :D

Update me when you can and i'll make the changes. We're glad to have you here and as of Sunday this thread will go full swing (even if i don't take down the challenge hasn't begun thread until Monday!) Happy Losing to everyone!

I'm very excited for the challenge as well. This is my first month working since Hurricane Katrina, so I'm a little nervous about making my goal. I lost 8 lbs over the Halloween challenge, but I was home during the day and able to walk a lot and cook healthy lunches, etc. Hopefully I can keep doing these things as much as possible. My goal is a 6.5 lb loss, which would put me right at 176 - although at this point I would be thrilled to see any of the 170s on the scale (congrats Miel!)

Good luck to all the challenge members, and thanks to moderators for keeping such a great thread going!

QOTD: What treats are you having today?

Well, today I'm *hoping* to clean the apartment a LOT. Then tonight will be Chinese food (I'll try to get something healthy LOL) and doing all my Christmas cards. Bought my first Christmas present this morning LOL...

Anyway, I'll probably just finish off the candy corn my mom sent a week ago... can't believe it lasted a week with how much DH & I both love candy corn LOL...

Tomorrow I'm definitely gonna start in on LOTS of water, exercise (DDR! :D) and hopefully will lose some weight and keep it off this time

Ok I am ready to Lose!!!!!!!!!!!:D
I did the last challenge and didn't do so hot but I am also going through some medical stuff and a lot of it had to do with excersise and diet. was burning more than what I was taking in and my body was shutting down. So under the Doctors care I think I am getting this figured out. So I will be a part of this challenge but I am going to take things slowly. I'd like to lose a pound a week so I would like to go from...
152 to 148
So 148 is my challenge goal.

If I only lose 2.5-3 pounds I won't be terribly upset.
So with that said...HAPPY LOSING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hola! I don't usually post at night but i just got off the elliptical. I was watching a dvd while i did it so i had to come to the computer to turn it off and just sat down. Forgive me if i don't post updates until tomorrow!

LynzeyAHL- WAY TO RESIST! I am proud of your will power! Your work sure gave you a lot of treats for Halloween! What the heck do they do at Christmas? lol. Way to make it through.

Welcome princesstommi- We are starting off at almost the exact same weight (i weighed in at 203.4 last week). Wanna race? ha ha.

nolagirl- I'm not a big sweets person either. I did have 2 of my 3 allotted sugar free life savers though :) I still have a starch left over and am debating if i want to eat the ice cream i had originally planned to eat. I might. I know i have to eat all my foods in the day.

I am seriously programmed to think what we learned growing up! If you eat you will get fat. Even though i know i have lost almost 20 lbs by eating! I still hear that little voice in my head though.

SwiftyOWB- Way to prepare and bring security food! I had an apple today too (with 1 1/2 tbsp peanut butter. mmmmm.) :)

Mrs.B716- I sure hope you are okay. I am glad you are looking at this challenge with an open mind! You can do it! If you ever need to talk feel free to pm me. I'm around almost everyday and check in like 100 times. Yes, i am a dork... someone has to keep this thing updated. lol.

LIZNKEITH- Welcome back! You're going to do great! Did you stop at 2? If not, tomorrow is another day. Just pick up and move on. Good luck!

Juliana- It's so hard. I have started bringing my own snack or eating my protein bar when everyone else does cake or pie or whatever for birthdays. Just tell yourself that it's just not worth it!

TX Sweetheart- Healthy chinese food, eh? I don't think we have that in my city! ha ha.

catch- You were so close! I missed my goal by .4! AHHHH!!! Seriously, i was so disappointed! It's okay though. I was still proud of myself for losing almost 15 lbs! Today i weighed in down .6 so that helped my ego. Hoping for more by wed and fri!

KatieKate- We're here for ya. Let us know if we can help! Pretty soon i imagine we should start posting healthy Turkey Day recipes! I've got an apple pie and pumpkin pie dip to offer up! and cranberry sauce... Basically LA Weightloss gave us recipes to make an entire T-Day meal healthy. I'll have to find it all and share!

nolagirl- Welcome back! Great goal this challenge! Stick to the healthy lunches and cooking... you know that works. That should be motivation enough! I always try to make my lunches the night before so the next morning i can keep hitting snooze! (instead of keep hitting snooze and not having time to make lunch!)

Just in case i didn't already say it... WELCOME UTChick & Lily!!

EmilyBronte- Welcome back! You have a good goal set! You can do it! Water is key though. It washes out everything! I hated water at first and now i drink too much! I have to schedule when i drink it otherwise i'll just drink it all day long!

Mom2Cole- You're a great partner! Thanks for all your help! I never had a chance to ask you about your vacation. I was wondering what kinds of goodies you were eating. I plan to eat whatever i want while i am on my cruise in Feb! I have high hopes of being swimsuit weight by then though! So far so good. Send me a pm and let me know how you vacation was. Get back to the diet though! :D

Okay, that's enough. I already spent 9 hours on the computer at work. Then weighed in, went grocery shopping, made dinner, and did 25 mins on the elliptical. I am going to go veg on the couch now. i am going to use the walk to the couch to decide if i am going to have that ice cream! Until tomorrow...

Good Morning Ladies!

Great job to everyone who resisted the urge to indulge on sweets yesterday. I knew that this would be hard for me, so before work yesterday I stopped by the store and bought a Nature Valley granola bar (180 cal. for 2 bars) and a cup of pre-cut veggies (no dip). It took me right through the day. The only bad thing I had were 2 mini snickers when I got home. Overall though, I 'm pretty proud of myself. :)

Exercise for the day: 60 min. on treadmill (Walk/Jog); 30 min. of strength training.

QOTD: I'll be hosting Thanksgiving, so I'm ok with that holiday. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are always challenging because my family loves to overcook for the holidays. I think that I might be the one to make the veggie platter and fill it with my favorites. Then just minimize my portions at dinner and limit the sweets to only 1 slice of cake or pie.

SwiftyOWB

Hey, I thought this didn't start until today :)

QOTD: Healthy eating plan for the holidays...
SOmething I really need to think about as we will have lots of friends/family as well as work parties to attend. My game plan is more about moderation and getting in my 4 days of exercise regardless. Also, I am working to cut out alcohol, so I'm planning to stick to 2 drinks per party, then water after that.

For Thanksgiving, we will be at the ILs and I have "signed up" to bring a veggie side dish and dessert. MIL usually ruins her veggies by adding something totally unhealthy to the entire dish (bacon or mushroom soup to green beans, cheese to broccoli, potatoes, etc). So I'm bringing something actually healthy and they can add whatever they want when it gets on their own plates. For the dessert, I don't know yet.

No plan here... though we don't really do all that much around the holidays... we'll be on our own for Thanksgiving most likely... Christmas we'll be going to Houston and staying with DH's aunt... if it's anything like it was last year, we'll be eating out alot so I can choose relatively healthy stuff... Christmas morning we'll have snacks and stuff, but ya know, it's Christmas morning... I'm not gonna be too worried about my diet that day LOL... New Year's we never do much of anything except possibly get drunk :D. January 2 is my birthday and we'll probably go out to eat so again I can kinda control what I eat that day as well...

Ok that was MUCH longer than I ment it to be LOL

MIL usually ruins her veggies by adding something totally unhealthy to the entire dish

HA! That's my mil to the T. We go over there once a week for dinner. oy! The first week i was on my diet we went to dinner and there was meat (i am a vegetarian so i had a veggie burger or veg chicken patty or something) then corn, potatoes, and rolls! Needless to say i didn't eat very much! Last week she had perfectly good broccoli, carrots, and caulif. drowning in a butter and herb sauce. Oy! She's not a very good cook so everything comes premade. I think the vegetables were those Green Giant butter herb vegetables but i could be wrong. All the vegetables and fruits i cook/eat are fresh. Yesterday i emailed dh and said "would it be rude to just make my own dinner when we go to their house to eat?" Seriously, last week i had 1 chicken patty and a protein bar b/c there wasn't anything else i could eat!

QOTD- Luckily my mom is having Thanksgiving this year so i will take a veggie turkey roast with me. I am also making the cranberry sauce and an apple pie that are all on my diet. I will probably have some potatoes instead of a roll and take a salad with me. That should be plenty of food. The other good thing is that we are only doing Thanksgiving once instead of 3 times! Yay!

Christmas is going to be a little more difficult with Christmas parties and what not. I guess i will just have to plan ahead instead of using it as an excuse to binge! We usually just go out for lunch at my work so i will just plan that meal in. When we leave town for Christmas in mid Dec i will take my own food again (just dh's family). There will be a few i wont be able to plan for so i will probably save a protein bar until right before we eat then make decisions as best as possible. I think the key is going to be not using each party and get together as an excuse to eat whatever i feel like. That's the mind set that gets me off track.

QOTD: Healthy eating plan for the holidays...
I'm not too worried about Thanksgiving since it will just be DH and I this year. He is watching his weight and portions too, so I don't think we will be having anything too bad. I think I may still make some kind of dessert and mashed potatoes, but I will cut down on some fat in the ingredients and only have a very small amount. In general, I have set a goal to get some kind of exercise each day in Nov. I know that's alot, but I think being active just 15 mins each day could help keep me motivated.

QOTD: Healthy Eating Over the Holidays
I lost weight over the holiday season I got engaged (never underestimate the pressure of trying on wedding dresses!). At parties, I followed two rules. First, I avoided anything I didn't REALLY love. For example, I like sugar cookies, but I can live without them. So I skipped them. Second, I avoided anything that wasn't strictly a holiday dish. I love Hershey kisses, but since I can have them anytime of year, I would pass those up. That would usually leave one or two holiday treats that I really loved. I would have small portions of those, along with any healthy choices available (vegetables, fruit, bread cubes, etc.) and maybe one cocktail. I got to sample things I truly liked and didn't feel too deprived. That, and making sure I exercised regularly worked really well for me. I'm definitely going to try and utilize these rules this year. (Wish I had done it last holiday season - I wouldn't have so far to go with weight loss now!)

Mom2Cole
11-01-2005, 09:04 PM
QOTD: What treats are you having today?

I actually did extremely good yesterday!!! I did not have one ounce of candy!!! YAY ME!!! I spent most of the morning glued to a chair getting my hair highlighted and then I took Cole to lunch. Once I got home, I was busy running around the house and didn't have time to snack on anything bad. ;) We ate a quick (but healthy dinner) and then spent the entire evening running around showing Cole off to family and friends. So, I really didn't have time to think about all the goodies!!

QOTD: anyone have a game plan for eating healthy around the holidays?

I am not really a sweet eater, so that will not be a problem for me, my problem will be overloading my plate with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoes, etc. I have decided that if I go a little overboard on the fixings and eat waaaay to much, that is okay! I didn't put this weight on overnight and I can't expect for it to go away overnight! :p I also said from the beginning that on special occasions, I will eat and not deprive myself of anything cause it takes me over my points range. I know there will be days where I eat waaaay to much and I will just pick myself up and move on. The scale may stick for a few weeks or even increase, but I won't feel deprived of anything and that (for me anyway) will motivate me to keep losing cause I won't feel like I am on a never-ending diet! ;)

QOTD: What treats are you having today?
Since I was in class til late (midterm!!), I decided not to buy candy for trick or treaters because I wasn't going to be home to open the door anyway. This way, I didn't feel "forced" to eat candy just because it was there. But after the midterm, I felt so frustrated, I decided to seek solace in a Hershey w/almonds bar and the new issue of In Touch, lol. But I'm trying really hard to control my emotional eating. I made it work with my WW points, so it was ok.

QOTD: anyone have a game plan for eating healthy around the holidays?
I'm going to practice portion control and am planning to save the majority of my flexpoints for Thanksgiving. And I'm going to just say no to leftovers unless it's something like turkey breast that I could make a sandwich out of, nothing else. I usually bring the dessert so I'm going to try to use some WW friendly recipes. Hopefully they'll be yummy enough that nobody notices that they're low-cal. I also plan to bring a 2-liter of Diet Pepsi. I'll just add it to the rest of the soda and say it's for everyone. I can't waste precious points on soda, makes no sense.

Thanks Moni for doing the updates! It seems we have the same challenge for the holiday season! Carbs! The funny thing is pre-diet i was a carbaholic. Now i am lucky to get any in during the day. I usually save 1 for dinner and then 1 for a 1/2 cup of ice cream after dinner. 1 starch = 1 graham cracker sheet, 1 slice of bread, 1/2 a bagel, 1/2 a tortilla, 1/2 cup of ice cream, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, etc... so i am not getting very many of them in. We used to have mashed potatoes a few times a week and we haven't had them in almost 2 months!

I'm going to share my menu for the day since we used to do this way back when and i personally like to see what everyone else is eating!

Breakfast
1/4 cup of oatmeal (1 tsp low fat syrup)

Mid AM Snack
LA Lite Protein Bar

Lunch
1 vegetarian bratwurst (1 tsp ketchup)
1/2 cup natural unsweetened apple sauce
1 cup broccoli slaw (1 tbsp lite cole slaw dressing and a few raisins)
yogurt

Mid PM Snack
LA Lite Protein Bar

Dinner
1 pkg vegetarian crumbles
1 cup of lettuce
1/2 low carb/low fat tortilla
1 tbsp salsa
1 tbsp lite ranch dressing
30 grapes

MMS: granola bar
L: turkey sandwich (but not a healthy one), water
AS: 2 bite size peices of chocolate
D: 1c. chili w/ crackers...but no cheese. water
AD: 1 scoop ice cream w/ FF choc syrup and a few almonds

Exercise: 15 min elliptical, sit-ups, push-ups & leg lifts

I have a hard time having a typical day because I go to a lot of work related functions. Like yesterday we had a department lunch and tonight I'm going to a networking event (that involves baking cupcakes, so I packed an uber healthy lunch). It's hard to keep total control when you're not preparing everything you eat, and I HAVE to eat at least one cupcake or it will look bad.

That being said, yesterday:

Breakfast: Coffee, whole wheat toast with almond butter and pumpkin butter

Snack: 2 bonbel light cheeses, 1 tangerine, 2 full sized reduced fat graham crackers (spread out over morning and afternoon)

Lunch: (Department lunch) -- Caesar salad with grilled chicken and about a tablespoon of dressing, 2 shrimp, 2 slices pineapple, strawberries, 1 chocolate chip cookie.

Dinner: Chinese food, which is usually a big diet buster, but I was SO GOOD. I got hot and sour soup and steamed eggplant with ginger sauce. The whole thing was like 5 points.

Today:
Breakfast: Same as yesterday
Snack: bonbel cheese, 1 apple, 2 tangerines
Lunch: Egg white salad with chives from Trader Joe's (whole thing is only 2 pts)

Dinner: Probably reasonably bad for me things. I'll try to make good choices.

Snack

Water

Snack

3 Slices of Toast w/1 tbl. margarine - 272 cal.

Dinner
JC Meal: Turkey Burger - 280 cal.

I'm under 250, woot! :)

QOTD - holiday eating: I'll try to fill up on things like veggies and lean meats. That way, by the time desert comes around, I won't feel like eating too much. I'll allow myself a slice of pie, but that's about it. I will also pair it with the low cal whipped topping, as opposed to the full cal stuff. ;) Also, maybe I'll try making a sugar free apple and pumpkin pie (dh only likes apple), that way it won't be all that bad for us. ;)

D: Hamburger & Milkshake at Steak & Shake. Bad eating day. Maybe I can blame it on PMS or something

Well, I just had my first weigh in at WW. I'm -1.8 lbs from last week for a total of 196.4 lbs. I was hoping for more, but considering I went to a Halloween party on Saturday with food and drinks flowing freely and have lots of candy left in the house, I guess that's ok.
I did go to a spinning class this week. I used to go all the time, but haven't been in probably 8 months or so. The beginning class was at an inconvenient time, so I went to the regular 45 min class and OMG, I was cussing myself! I wanted to get off and walk out about 10 min into the class, but I did stick it out and then felt great afterwards. Need to get my butt there again tonight.

Can i join also? I've been reading this challenge thread for a while, so i thought i'd join in!

My hubby and i have been doing a weight loss challenge between ourselves since September 12. Weigh in on that day was 156 and as of Monday, which is my weigh in day was 146! I'm pretty much to the weight i was on my wedding day. I'm not really setting goals, but ideally the next step i'd like is another 10 pounds down, which would be the weight i was at when i graduated from college. If those 10 pounds come off easy, then i'd like to get down another 10 pounds, which would be my pre-vegetarian weight!

Here's my stats:

Dieting since: Sept. 13, 2005

Challenge Weight Loss Goal: no goals, i hate setting myself up for failure! ;)
Known issues: vegetarian - can't get enough of those bad carbs!!
Current Weight: 146

My question for you guys is since i've already had my weigh in for this week, is my starting weight for this challange last weeks weight and week 1 would be the weight i've lost in the past week or my new weight for this week?

For the last 2 days, I strictly limited my food intake. As in, no snacks and only a serving size for my meals. I worked out Wed and Fri, 20-30 minutes of just walking on the treadmill, and doing sit ups.

i'm still maintaining at 132.5. i'm glad i haven't gained but i feel like i've hit a plateau.

QOTD 1: i did okay this wkd, esp since i budgeted flex points for our out of town trip :)

another QOTD:
what do you do when you hit a plateau? any ideas?

nolagirl
11-07-2005, 08:10 AM
Amber - I hit a month long plateau when I did WW a couple of years ago. The one thing that really helped was adding weight lifting to my exercise routine. I don't know if you already do this, but it really helped. The first couple of weeks I actually gained. The trainer I was working with told me it was because your body retains water when you start weight training. After that, I lost continually for quite a while. Also (I'm assuming you are on WW), make sure you eat all your points. NO matter how frustrated you are, don't start eating less - it will put you in starvation mode. Good luck - I know how aggravating it is when you are doing everything right and still not losing!

As for the 2 QOTD:
Weekends aren't too bad for me as I actually have time to make healthy eating choices. Plus, we are pretty active on the weekends, so even if I don't get in a real workout, I know I'm doing ok. During the week is much harder for me.

As for the plateau, I'm no expert. I usually grumble and complain and give up. So any suggestions form others would be great.

DH helped and we went through the size 16 container and things are tight and don't fit yet but hey, i can get them over my thighs and button them! ha ha! Of course, the pockets are still bulging out on the sides and it looks like each pair of pants was panted on... but, hey! I CAN GET THEM ON!

Well, hopefully i have a success to share tonight/tomorrow! 190's here i come!

QOTD: Did anyone else have a really hard time this weekend?

I am sorry some of you had a tough weekend. Don't fall off the wagon though. Pick up where you were and move on! My biggest challenge is weekends. Not b/c i eat more or make the wrong choices but b/c i don't eat ALL of my foods and i sometimes don't get all my water in. It helps that there isn't ANY junk food in our house otherwise i have a feeling i'd be making bad choices. The best thing i ever did was throw everything away! If dh wants chips for lunch he has to take the bag to work. Same with candy, cookies, etc... There isn't ANY bad decision food in the house.

another QOTD: what do you do when you hit a plateau? any ideas?
I am probably not much help on this subject... So far i have only maintained for two days and that was Monday and Wednesdays weigh in of last week. Then i took a big jump down on my Friday weigh in. I have heard/read that its a good idea to rearrange your food intake. For example if you are always having a protein and fruit in the morning and a protein starch and vegetable at lunch just move things around and have a starch and fruit at breakfast and instead of a protein at lunch have a starch, vegetable and fruit. Something like that. HTH.

Good luck on Weigh In's this week! Happy Losing!

Congrats to everyone- what a great first week! Now let's stay motivated and see even more losses next week.

Wk1: -.5 lbs/ 144.5

Not great, esp. after I got in some kind of exercise 6 days this week. But it's a loss nonetheless! :)

Catching up on the last 2 QOTD:

1.) The past few weekends haven't been so bad b/c DH and I haven't had many parties or other occaisions to go to. It's easy for me to use these kind of events as excuses to go off of my diet b/c I'm "celebrating".

2.) There is nothing more frustrating than plateauing. I'm currently stuck in one right now too, so I can totally sympathize. It seems like I've been a pound above or pound below 145 for about 6 weeks now despite my best efforts. Right now, I'm trying to up my exercise in hopes of breaking through. If any else has tips, please pass them along!

Yeah, weekends are tough, because DH and I are more likely to go out. OTOH, I do have more time to exercise. This weekend I went way overboard with some absolutely fantastic potatoes au gratin at dinner Saturday night, but I was super good Sunday, and I took the dog for long walks both days.

I had a hard time this weekend!

I have no problem with plateauing. I plan to eat like this for life so it doesn't really matter as long as I have hope that some more weight will come off at some point--even if it is a long time in the future.

I really have been bad! It's surprising...how funny that I don't ever eat really badly when I eat whatever I want...I know a huge part of the reason is that I'm not hungry, not hungry, not hungry....forget to eat and then I get bad blood sugar and feel sick...I just have to remember to work some snacks in there. I really am resolving to eat an apple a day---because if I do that I will always have a snack on hand and won't get sick..

One thing that REALLY helps with plateauing is drinking TONS of water. I've been stuck at 140-143 the past like 4-5 weeks and a few days ago I started drinking TONS AND TONS of water each day and I get up the next day and I'm 138!!! I hope I finally broke the 140 plateu and I'm moving back down into the 130's then I can get into the 120's and I'll be estatic if that happens. If you can't drink that much water b/c it's boring I get Crystal Lite powder and make it myself. I LOVE crystal lite. Especially the Strawberry Kiwi or Fruit Punch. Anyway you can get water in your body and lots of it a day do it. It REALLY helps! It helps keep you from getting bloated, get's excess waste out quicker etc. Try it :) Also another thing I've found that helps too is try to cut some carbs out of your diet. Not cut them out completely just like instead of a whole sanwhich try a half. Just try to cut breads and things like that out a bit and sugar also.

QOTD: Did anyone else have a really hard time this weekend?

Saturday was my only "naughty" day! :o We usually go out to dinner atleast one weekend night and usually I am good, but Saturday night I went waaaay over my points! :p

I keep telling myself if I crave something...give in to it. My weightloss may be slow when I decide to give in to my cravings, but I won't feel so deprived, kwim?! I just need to have one good day of eatin' and move on...the weight will come off. I just don't want to cut myself off from the "good stuff" and when I finally make it to my goal weight, so freakin' nuts eating...am I making any sense?! :p

Friday and Sunday were good days, eating wise and even resisted the temptation of my husband's chili last night!! ;)

QOTD #2: What do you do when you hit a plateau? any ideas?

I second the water consumption!! I haven't hit a real plateau yet, but noticed when I drink more water, my weightloss is so much better!!

So bummed! I weighed in at +.6 :( (the downside to weighing in every 2 days) Here's hoping for either Wednesday or Friday! I am going to go watch the fast and the furious and do the elliptical until my legs feel like they are going to fall off ;)

Mom2Cole; I'm with ya on giving into cravings just not going over board with them. I say if I want a cookie I'mgonna have 1 but not 10, lol. B/C if you totally make yourself not have something your going to give up eventually b/c it'll drive you crazy! Keep uo the good work!!!

ellidew: Don't let a .6 jump run you over, you'll get it off and more next time!!! Keep working at it. Best wishes!!!

I did pretty well today! I had 1 snack that I usually don't have but it's okay I'm not goni to beat myself up over it. I also didnt' go work out b/c I worked today and I cleaned the house so I was a bit tired. I will tomorow...hopefully, lol. I did weigh earlier after eating and had clothes on and I was still only 138! YAY! That's waht I was this morning so I'm anxious to see tomorrows. I can't help but weigh every few days, lol. Keep up the good work girlies. a - 24.9 lbs. so far YEA! :D

Moni--Wow! 24 lbs! Hope I get to see some of that myself!

Tonysweetie I forgot about the water chug thing...it only works if you are being incredibly good in the first place, though. I always drink a ton of water. When I am being really good and drink a ton and even more is when I lose. But that's a good thing to remember! :)

I was just analyzing my chart and its annoying how i go through phases where i lose a ton then get jammed up. When i neared 210 i was up and down then i fell under 210 and lost FAST until i neared 200. Could stress cause this? I can definitely say its stressful not to hit that next goal, ya know?

Here's my chart... ANY SUGGESTIONS?

elli~You WILL be under 200 by Friday...I just know it!! You are right, that is the downside to weighing every other day. It was probably just some water weight and is gone today!! :D

Tonysweetie~I am glad to know I am not the only one that gives in to cravings every now and then! :p YOU are doing awesome!! Keep it up girl!!

Miel~Hee, hee...the 24 pounds was lost as a group! :D Awesome, huh?!

elli, I hate to get all scientific on you, but based on your chart, the only problem you are having is normal statistical fluctuation. That being said, the more data points you enter, the more correct your overall trend will be. So it is good that you weigh in as often as you do. But don't let it get to you. You're overall trend is OBVIOUSLY down, so focus on that.

I'm with mom2cole that you will be down under 200 by this weekend.

You WILL be under 200 by Friday
I'm with mom2cole that you will be down under 200 by this weekend.

Power of persuasion, eh? lol. When i was watching the fast and the furious last night the blonde guy (Brian - the cop) when he's first going to race Dom (for the pink slip) he gets in the car and says to himself over and over again "I'm going to win. I'm going to win" He loses of course but that's not indicative of where i expect my weight loss to be. :p I did an hour on the elliptical last night so i am proud of myself. I did it for 30 mins took a 5-10 mins break then did another 30 mins. I burned about 300 calories. I need to find that treadmill routine someone posted on Challenge 2 (I think) and program my elliptical to do those intervals and set it up for a 1 hour program. If someone finds it before me repost it please!

boilermaker- Thanks for the reality check. I know the overall trend is downward... thank goodness! :D I am assuming that most peoples weight loss charts would look similar. LA Weight Loss has something called "Fast Forward" which is basically a fruit juice you drink throughout the day and then eat mostly proteins so i might do that on Thursday and Friday to jump start things. Maybe i'll hit 199 point anything as long as the first 2 numbers at 19 ha ha. :D

Weighed today and I'm at 137 that is a total of 7 lbs. off since I started but only 4 since I started here! OH Man I'm so happy! I just hope it continues to keep going down. My goal is to be back to 130 by Thanksgiving! I CAN DO IT! TheN I want to be 125 by New Years, I know that is a big jump but I always noticed that last 5 lbs. takes me a lot longer than than the first 10. I even got to wear my skinny sweat pants last night. I have these brown sweat drawstring sweat pants that my fat would hang over when I wore them so I never wore them well I got them out last night and they fit great! I was estatic!!! I'm gonna wear them today to keep my motivation going, lol. Okay off to make a good healthy breakfast and get my day started. Have a wonderful day ladies!!!! God Bless!!! :D

Congrats ksull17! :)

I changed my weigh-in day to Wednesday because Mondays are rough. Last Wednesday (after AF), I was down to 180.2 (I guess that should be my current weight from when the challenge started). Today, my loss for week 1 is -1/179.2. So happy to be in the 170s again. Total loss so far is 8.4 lbs :)

Last week I started to work out. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill twice and did 15 minutes of strength training afterwards. I did Winsor Pilates once (beginner 20 minute dvd) and I power walked with my brother for 45 minutes after going to try on wedding dresses for the very first time :) I feel great! This week, I've done Pilates once (last night), but I'm looking forward to doing it again tonight. I get home late from school and I rather do Pilates (fun!) than walk on the treadmill (boring!), so it works for me.

QOTD: What was your "turning point" when you decided that this was the time you were going to lose weight?

I'll go first. The only thing holding me back from TTC is that I don't want to get pregnant at this weight. So baby fever is my motivation and when I realized that, it was my turning point for getting the weight off once and for all.

Your turn...

COGNRATULATIONS ksull17! H&H 9 months!

Tonysweetie- That's wonderful! You're doing great! Keep it up and you will hit your goal no problem!

catch- You're are doing great too! I'm proud of you! I bet you are proud of yourself too! Keep it up! Good for you on getting to the gym too. I did an hour on the elliptical on Monday and 30 mins last night. Praying for a loss today! :) Keep it up and the weight will just fall off.

QOTD: What was your "turning point" when you decided that this was the time you were going to lose weight?

Vanity. You wanted honesty, right? ;) I saw a couple of pictures of myself and couldn't believe how much i hated the way i look. Not to mention i wasn't comfortable in my own body and i just generally didn't like myself. I hate looking in the mirror and i hate not being able to find clothes to wear. I hate clothes shopping! It's depressing and sad and nothing fits and if it does it just looks terrible. I still don't like the way i look but i am proud of myself for losing even only 20 lbs. Which is a big ego boost. The first 20 lbs proved that i CAN lose the weight with just a little extra effort and support. Especially from you guys. When i didn't see the 19 on the scale on Monday your comments really boosted my confidence. If i don't get there today i will get there Friday or Monday and i know i can count on my weight loss challenge buddies :p

TaterBaby- I am baby driven too! lol. Actually we were trying at the beginning of the year and we still aren't avoiding it just hasn't happened! I would be a lot happier and more comfortable if i weighed less and was pregnant. If we aren't pg by the time i get down to 170 we are going to start actively trying again. That should hopefully be in Jan/Feb. About a year after we were originally going to start trying. I really want to be the cute {little} ;) pregnant girl.

My turning point was when DH and I got married and when we got back from our honeymoon I had gained 10 lbs. Those 10 lbs. quickly turned into 15. I haven't seriously tried to get it off until now. We went to Boston a few months back for a fmaily members wedding an dwhen I saw the pics of myslef I was horrified of the way I looked in my dress which I had thought made me look skinny. So after that I got serious. It wasn't until about 2 weeks ago that I got the motivation to REALLY try to get it off as quick as I could until my best friend (MOH in my wedding) decided she wanted to drop about 20 lbs. so we started to challenge each other. So the past 14 days I've dropped 7 lbs! I haven't lost that much weight in a lONNNNGGG time. All if takes is a little extra effort and support!!!

QOTD:

I agree that it was seeing myself in pictures. My whole family took a trip to Bermuda this summer and of course took tons of photos. I couldn't believe how much heavier I looked in the pics, compared to how I thought I looked in real life. I always thought I "carried it well"......but seeing those shots showed me how wrong I was. I'm tall, but not THAT tall! My weight has gone up and down since I was in college - I'm hoping that this will be it!

Amuse Bouche
11-09-2005, 04:16 PM
For me it was getting "fat" in the areas that had never been fat before. I am a hippy girl, and my butt will never never never be small. But when clothes don't fit because my arms are too big, and my stomach's too big, well, that's a reason to give it a shot.

Baby fever also plays a role.

;)

I haven't gotten a chance to exercise at all this week. I've been working until 11:30 pm, and at that point I don't get to sleep until after midnight, and the last thing I want to do before work is get up early to exercise.

Congratulations KSull...how exciting!! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!! :D

QOTD: What was your "turning point" when you decided that this was the time you were going to lose weight?

I shared "my story" with ellidew...and my turning point was looking in the mirror one day and not liking the person who was staring back at me. This was not who I was and I couldn't believe I had allowed myself to get so out of control. :(

We also are planning to start trying for Baby #2 next fall of 2006 and I really want to be at a healthy weight for the next one. I was at my highest weight in my life, when I got pregnant with Cole and I was extremely surprised when I started losing weight during my pregnancy. I lost a total of 14 pounds during my pregnancy, but my doctor was not too concerned since the baby was gaining weight...it wasn't like I was 120 pounds to begin with! ;)

I joked that I was going to keep on getting pregnant until I reached my goal, but with a 14 pound loss during my pregnancy with Cole, I would have to have 4 or more kid's to reach my goal and well, ummmm...I decided to lose the weight the old fashion way...change my lifestyle and quit making excuses and being lazy!

I started my life style change on May 9th, 2005 and to date, I have lost 36 pounds and went from a size 22 to a 12! :D I promised myself that day I looked in the mirror that I would never be that woman again....and I stuck with my promise. :)

So, tonysweetie, how many dum dums did you end up having?

I had a bad night last night, so I have to do a major workout tonight. I was running late to class and had Burger King. Quite healthy .

As for the QOTD, my turning point was pretty gradual. I'm not overweight, but I have been gaining about 5 lbs a year for the past few years. Well, 5 lbs adds up and I'm now about 20 pounds over where I used to be. I figured if I didn't stop the cycle, I'd be overweight in a few years. So I am trying to be proactive and while losing the 20 pounds would be great, I'll honestly consider it a success if I just establish a healthy lifestyle and stop the gain. Also, my mother is obese and it is seriously effecting her health. How can I honestly support her as she tries to change her lifestyle but continue to lead an unhealthy one myself. Kind of hypocritical in my opinion. And she's done great (lost about 70 pounds over the past 18 months), so it's a big motivator for me.

I've been doing pretty well this week. Trying to eat larger lunches and smaller dinners, for some reason that seems to help. I've been staying away from the scale and just trying to focus on my food intake and exercise.

For exercise, I've been doing about 25-30 minutes on the treadmill, doing lunges with weights, and lots of sit ups. Nothing too extreme, but I can definitely feel it in my tummy! Oh, and I've been doing that exercise where you sit with your back against the wall and hold it for a minute. That is TOUGH, but I can tell it really helps.

QOTD: (sorry i'm a little late!) I stayed the same weight, give or take a few pounds all through high school...I was active and everything...then I met my FH and we went off to college, where we ate fast food and all that good stuff. I wasn't too active, as I was studying quite a bit...I tried a diet and ended up losing some weight, but then ate it all right back...Over the course of 3-4 years I would continue this pattern until last march when I decided that enough was enough. I didn't like myself, physically or emotionally and I had to do something about it. I wasn't comfortable in my own skin. I set out to conquer my stress and emotional eating...so that was my "ah ha" moment. I saw a picture from last christmas and it almost made me sick...I was actually mad at my family for not telling me how huge I was getting..so being a happier person keeps me on track now.

Week 2: -.4/196

For some reason, I was really tired all week and just couldn't drag myself to the gym. Must get there this week. I have noticed that I am not hungry anymore with the smaller portions that I have been eating. My stomach is getting used to it. Also, I haven't had a stomach ache since starting WW two weeks ago. I used to get them all the time after over eating or eating greasy, fattening foods.
