Nothing coming out interesting for the rest of this week, but next week is Fantastic Four and Murderball which is a documentary about quadrapalegic rugby teams, which looks pretty good.
July 15th is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp.
For some, August 5th is of interest for The Dukes of Hazzard although I probably will wait for that to come on HBO.
August 12th, God help us, there is the new Deuce Bigelow movie.
August 19th opens Asylum with Ian McKellan and Natasha Richardson (aka Mrs. Liam Neeson, I love them both) ;) the new animated film Valiant (by the Shrek crowd), the main character voiced by Ewan McGregor.
September 30th is Philip Seymour Hoffman as Capote which I'm really interested to see, as I had many times met Truman Capote when I spent my summers in Sag Harbor, NY. Tragic man!!
October 7th - Wallace & Grommit
October 28th - The Legend of Zorro. I must admit, I like Antonio Banderas in this role... and Catherine Zeta-Jones looks like she's gonna kick some butt herself!!
November 4th is Disney's Chicken Little
November 11th is Rent: The Movie
NOVEMBER 18th - HARRY POTTER and the Goblet of Fire
December is Remake Month:
December 9th - The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe - I'm looking forward to this, but I really love the cheesy animated one. This better be good!!
December 14th - King Kong
December 16th - All the King's Men
December 21st - The Producers - Can't wait to see this... I'm SO glad that both Matthew Broderick & Nathan Lane did it!!

August 12th, God help us, there is the new Deuce Bigelow movie.
Oh, yes...how can I forget the stand-up cardboard marquee that's in the movie theater with the Leaning Tower of Pisa strategically placed.
And DH has talked about "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe." I'll probably see it...I liked the book and I really LOVED the BBC versions of the books.
I must read the Harry Potter book before I see the movie.

I've seen some advance footage of Lion Witch & the Wardrobe at work and it looks really good. I'm a big fan of the books and was hoping the movie would be good-- and I'm encouraged by what I've seen. The trailer is online if you want to get a peek www.apple.com/trailers
Upcoming films I'm excited about:
July 15- Wedding Crashers
(The script was really funny, love Owen Wilson)
August 12- The Great Raid
(I *loved* this script. Really emotional and compelling. I'm surprised they're not releasing this later in the year since it would seem to have awards potential.)
August 26- The Brothers Grimm
(My FI read this script and really liked it. Terry Gilliam is always an interesting director.)
September 16- Proof
(Starring Gwyneth Paltrow, based on the play. I'd expect acting noms for this.)
October 14- Elizabethtown
(Directed by Cameron Crowe, who I love. Worked on this briefly at the last studio I worked for, but haven't heard anything about how it turned out)
November 18- Harry Potter
(YAY!!!)
December 2005 (date not announced)- Memoirs of a Geisha
(Finally! After years of being on hold.)
December 16- All the King's Men
(Amazing cast. I'd expect more acting noms.)
December 2005 (date not announced)- King Kong
(I'm a little skeptical about the dinosaurs in the trailer, but this is still a huge must-see.)

I just saw a preview for a new movie with Jodie Foster
"Flightplan"
Jodie plays a widow, who's worst nightmare comes true when her 6-year old daughter goes missing during a trans-Atlantic flight on a new two-story, luxury jet that she designed. When both the crew and the passengers have no recollection of her even being on the flight, she goes crazy tearing the plane apart trying to find her!
It looks really cool!

I really want to see Wedding Crashers. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson always crack me up. :)
I'm also interested in seeing:
Proof
Elizabethtown
Memoirs of a Geisha
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Hustle & Flow - July
from imdb.com: Rapper DJay (Howard) works the angles to get his first record made, with help from assorted people in his Memphis 'hood. And when he hears that rap superstar Skinny Black (Ludacris) is heading to his area, he throws together a supreme hustle to grab Skinny's attention.
Producer John Singleton made Flow the talk of Sundance, after Paramount and MTV Films bought the picture for $9 million and a two-picture commitment to Singleton. The film went on to win an audience award, which is not too bad for the relatively unknown Brewer (set to write and direct Black Snake Moan next), who's bringing crunk to the big-screen right before a new hip-hop movement takes its place at the top of the gravy train.
The Last Days - July
from imdb.com: Blake (Pitt), a brilliant musician living in Seattle, spends the last few hours of his troubled life in turmoil in and around his secluded home.
Gus Van Sant's meditation on the final hours of Kurt Cobain's life finds the director now firmly planted in the experimental style of his early work. But in comparison to his last two films, Days' subject matter alone is grabbing more attention than Gerry managed (even in infamy); the hipster-friendly cast (bonus points and a pair of Pro Keds if you can spot Harmony Korine) is helping it become more high-profile than even Elephant. Expect long, beautifully composed shots, and, from what we hear, some heavy-handed imagery.
Four Brothers - August
Syriana - September
from imdb.com: Robert Baer (Clooney), a seasoned intelligence gatherer for the CIA, has spent his career tracking terrorists internationally. Embroiled in a situation in the Middle East, Baer's job is complicated by Beltway politics, as well as unexpected personal crisis involving an American oil executive about to close a deal with an oil sheik.
Hopefully this will prove Gaghan's meddle as a director (he majorly flailed with Abandon) since he's back in the socio-political world that earned him such acclaim. More ambitious than Traffic, his best screenplay to date, Syriana is loosely based on the memoirs of Robert Baer -- we're saying "loosely" at this point because we don't have any idea if the film will address the juiciest part of Baer's career (look at the first couple links here to see what we mean). Could this be Clooney's biggest role yet?
Just Like Heaven - September
A sad and lonely San Francisco architect (Ruffalo) falls in love with the beautiful spirit of a woman (Witherspoon) who appears to be inhabiting his home. Turns out, however, she's just in a coma. And if he doesn't do something soon, she'll be taken off life support.
We are 99.9% sure that when this movie was greenlit, it was not pitched as a rom-com spin on the Terri Schiavo case; still, it will have to overcome the specter of that past media frenzy in order to assert itself as just a light and fluffy date movie. And with perky Witherspoon, dreamy Ruffalo, and agile director Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday), we'll give it a sporting chance at doing so. Jon "Napoleon Dynamite" Heder has a supporting role.
In Her Shoes - October
from imdb.com: Straight-laced Rose (Collette) breaks off relations with her party girl sister, Maggie (Diaz), over an indiscretion involving Rose's boyfriend. The chilly atmosphere is broken with the arrival of Ella (MacLaine), the grandmother neither sister knew existed.
Oscar-winning director Hanson and Oscar-nominated screenwriter Susannah Grant team up on an adaptation of comic novelist Jennifer Weiner's bestseller. Starring opposite Cameron D., will this finally make Collette a household name?
Shopgirl - October
from imdb.com: When Mirabelle (Danes) is seduced Ray Porter (Martin), a wealthy and caring older man, her life takes a much-needed turn for the better. But in time, she must make a choice between Ray and Jeremy (Schwartzman), a struggling musician closer to her age ... but maybe not to her heart.
Kinda stoked for the feature version of Martin's perfectly simple novella, which became a major best-seller. Jimmy Fallon was originally set to star as Jeremy, and we were relieved when Schwartzman got the role. None of this explains how director Tucker (Hilary and Jackie) got the job, however.
Bee Season - October
from imdb.com: As Miriam Naumann (Binoche) begins a downward emotional spiral, her husband (Gere) avoids their collapsing marriage by immersing himself in Jewish Mysticism and his daughter's quest to become a spelling bee champion.
Director McGehee returns with his follow-up to The Deep End, though this time around someone else is handling the screenplay; Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal -- yes, Maggie and Jake's mom -- adapted the novel by Myla Goldberg. Co-star Minghella -- yes, Max's son -- is proving he's a Fall; he makes his debut as George Clooney's son in Syriana (mere weeks before Bee), and stars in another September release, Art School Confidential.
Jarhead - November
imdb.com: Six months in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait offers a series of dramatic and traumatic experiences for Marine Anthony "Swoff" Swofford (Gyllenhaal) as he fights in Operation: Desert Storm.
Jake Gyllenhaal beat out Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in order to portray Swofford, the former Marine who published his Gulf War memoir in 2003. Dealing with a range of topics, from his boredom and losing his girlfriend, to being shot at by Iraqis and Americans, Swofford's story will obviously attract considerable hype and controversy. Good thing Mendes and Gyllenhaal are no strangers to attention. The director, actor, and the picture itself could nab Oscar nominations; not to mention Oscar-winning editor Walter Murch, who's working on the picture with most of his Cold Mountain crew.
Rent - November
imdb.com: Friends in New York City's East Village struggle with life, love and AIDS.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning play based on the Puccini opera gets the Hollywood treatment from emotionally manipulative director Columbus, who partnered with Revolution Studios to tackle the long-gestating project. To distance it even further from its Bohemian roots, the entire movie is being shot in San Francisco. To compensate, though, most of the original cast will be back -- albeit eight years older.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - November
imdb.com: With Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts on nigh, the orphan wizard is plagued by a horrible vision: he senses Lord Voldemort and his familiars, the Death Eaters, are out for murder more than ever. Hogwarts, meanwhile, is prepping for the Quidditch World Cup, where the school's team will face-off against two other academies, the Beauxbatons and the Durmstrang.
In the most-obvious press release ever, director Newell indicated that he was going to continue with the dark themes and visuals introduced by Alfonso Cuarón in The Prisoner of Azkaban. For Harry's young fans, however, the announcement was lost amongst their confusion as to who exactly Mike Newell is. I'm not saying that Four Weddings and a Funeral is a bad movie (it's terrible); I'm saying that Newell would have been the right choice for GoF if Harry and his crew either [A] decide to infiltrate the mob, or [B] all become women and enroll at Wellesley.

Rumor Has It - December
imdb.com: A woman (Aniston) learns that her family was the inspiration for the book and film The Graduate -- and that she just might be the offspring of the well-documented event.
A whirl of covered-up drama saw original writer-director Ted Griffin get the boot and Rob Reiner (for crying out loud) assume command of the team. (It was widely reported that Griffin spent more time with his cinematographer than he did with his actors; Aniston and Costner took offense, and he was gone in a poof.) Whether or not the repackaged project will be a much-needed hit for Reiner will be answered come opening weekend. Meanwhile, Ruffalo's quiet response to Griffin's firing indicate a fondness for the original script ... and direction? Maybe we're just starting rumors.
Brokeback Mountain - December
imdb: Two young, modern-day cowboys (Gyllenhaal and Ledger) meet in the early 60s as both work as ranch hands on a sheep ranch in Wyoming. The two form a lifelong bond, even as their lives diverge and one becomes a rodeo star and the other a ranch hand. Based on the novel by Annie Proulx.
Once known as "the gay cowboy movie," Ang Lee's foray into Western territory has been dogged by controversy at every turn, from the (rather graphic) screenplay excerpts leaked on the Internet, to clashes between the director and screenwriter Larry McMurtry (which were later chalked up to basic misunderstandings), to the film's almost-inclusion at Cannes (it wasn't finished yet). For those dying to see Ledger and Gyllenhaal in a romantic clinch, we say don't get your hopes up -- descriptive language has already dialed down "love story" to "lifelong bond," and we expect little more than meaningful glances across herds of sheep.
The Producers
imdb.com: Max Bialystock (Lane), a faded Broadway producer, latches on to a get-rich-quick scheme concocted by his neurotic accountant, Leo Bloom (Broderick). But their plan to unveil the worst musical ever written takes a series of unexpected comic turns.
Famed choreographer Susan Stroman directs play boys Lane and Broderick in the feature version of their beloved long-running Broadway hit. With the original two in place, as well as Uma as Ulla, the busty Swedish secretary, and Will Ferrell as songwriter Franz Liebkind, The Producers represents the best chance to continue the musical renaissance ushered in by Chicago a few years ago.

October 14- Elizabethtown
I saw a trailer for this when I went to see "War of The Worlds". The reason I remember it is because I was in that city years ago on the way to a vacation and stopped at McDonald's. There was this one red light that when it turned green only let THREE cars out! It took forever!

Wasn't Elizabethtown shot in KY? I seem to recall hearing something to that effect but can't remember if they filmed in actual E-town or somewhere else.
I was really interested in seeing Brokeback Mountain but it disturbs me that they seem to have reworked it to make it more palatable to American audiences.

I know parts of Elizabethtown were shot in Arkansas. Very close to my hometown. I think parts of it were shot around War Eagle Mill.

I am really looking forward to the sequel of "Underworld". This one is titled "Underworld, Evolution". Kate Beckinsdale is reprising her role as Selina. The release date just got pushed back though; from December of this year to January 20, 2006. :(

I just saw a commericial for Bad News Bears. I'd love to go see it if only for Billy Bob Thornton. It looks like it might be the same type of humor (minus some of the language) as Bad Santa.

Have you read Underworld:Blood Enemy? I'm not 100% certain but I believe this is the storyline they will be using for the upcoming film. Can't wait for it to come out.
Why are so many films getting pushed back?

Cliff will be pleased to know about the Underworld sequel. He really liked the first one. :)
I've been seeing previews for The Constant Gardener, based on the John Le Carre novel, with Ralph Fiennes, Bill Nighy, and Rachel Weisz, and I think it looks pretty amazing.
Based on the best-selling John le Carré novel and from the Academy Award-nominated director of "City of God." In a remote area of Northern Kenya, activist Tessa Quayle (Rachel Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Tessa's companion, a doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes), will leave the matter to them. They could not be more wrong. Haunted by remorse and jarred by rumors of his late wife's infidelities, Quayle surprises everyone by embarking on a personal odyssey that will take him across three continents. Using his privileged access to diplomatic secrets, he will risk his own life, stopping at nothing to uncover and expose the truth - a conspiracy more far-reaching and deadly than Quayle could ever have imagined.
