I need a really moisturizing, conditioning lip balm. Unflavored. Preferably unscented. Preferable in a tube, as opposed to a pot. I've tried Burt's Bees and wasn't crazy about it. I currently use ChapStick Lip Moisturizer, SPF 15, but it doesn't feel like it works anymore.

TIA.

I always used to use Chapstick (and felt like I had to use it constantly), but within the past year or so, I've fallen in love with Vaseline Lip Therapy, Advanced Formula. It comes in a squeeze tube kind of thing--not exactly a tube like Chapstick, but not a pot (you can put it directly to your lips or squeeze some on your finger). It's not scented, not flavored, and is very moisturing. Don't know the price, but it's a drugstore product and I'm sure not expensive.

I fell in love with the Bare Essentials shea butter lip balm years ago. I was so happy to find it again here locally. So much so, that I bought two! I also like the Cherry Ice brand lip balm that I can get at my local Walgreens.

I swear by Kiehl's. It doesn't have a yummy taste or smell, but it works wonderfully alone or under lipstick/lipgloss.

I also really the CO Bigelow (from B&BW) Metha Lip Shine. It is very minty and refreshing.

I use Softlips- it's pretty cheap, maybe $2 a tube if you can't find it on sale. It's light on your lips but still moisturizing. It tingles a little bit, but not as much as Carmex. I've noticed that I don't have to use it as often as other lip balms, and it has SPF 20, which is great. Just be aware that though they smell really good, they don't taste like they smell!

Edited: Just realized that you don't want scented or flavored. I don't know if Softlips is made in an unscented version. They are in tubes, though (maybe more of a stick, like ChapStik. You might check Bath and Body Works for C.O. Bigelow balms. I know there's one with shea butter in it (in a tube) but I'm not shure if it is scented or not.

I use Berry Blistex, which also has SPF 15. Mine is in a tube, but it might also come in a pot (?). I don't think it's really flavored or scented, it just doesn't smell like medicine like regular Blistex does. I am a chapstick addict, and this works the best for me w/o question.

I also have Kiehl's, colored and non, but I don't like it as much.

I use Smith's Rosebud Salve. It works wonderfully, and has a very very light scent.

The Body Shop has a Vitamin E balm that I like but I've been using Kiehl's more of late.

I'm pretty sure that they do make one that is unscented/unflavored. It's in a yellow tube, and its name has something to do with vitamins... With that, I'd second Softlips. It makes my lips feel so smooth!

I like Blistex, "regular" flavor, which doesn't have a flavor at all - don't know why they don't just call it unflavored. Comes in a tube, SPF 10, $1 at Target, a little more other places. I don't notice any smell at all with it - and didn't when I was pregnant either, and could smell a Dorito from three blocks away. :)

I'm addicted to Aveda's Lip Saver. It's expensive for a lip balm - $8 a tube - but it's the best working lip balm i've found.

I'm chiming in late here, but I use Vaseline in a tube. You can find it at most grocery stores for around $1 a tube.

I use Mario Badescu's Lip Wax with SPF 15 and it is the best thing I've ever purchased for my lips. I love it. It's $7.00 but I use it daily and have had the same tube since the end of May. You can find it here:

Thanks, ladies. So far I've tried Blistex Complete Moisture, SoftLips unflavored, and SUN. They all seem to last longer than ChapStick, but none have really wowwed me. I think I'll pick up some Aveda tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll try the others on this list.

I just don't get why my lips are so dry. I drink tons of water. I don't lick them. I try to keep a lip balm on them. Argh!

ejs--I had a problem with majorly dry lips a few years ago. The skin underneath my lower lip actually started to break open and get really itchy. I went to a doctor, and he told me that I had a (strep or staph...can't remember which, but I think it was strep) infection. I had to use a perscription ointment to get rid of it, and he told me to stop using lip balms and to only use vaseline. To this day, I still put a coat of vaseline on before using lipstick. He told me that most lip balms actually have drying agents in them, causing the lips to crack open and that's how I got an infection. I have no clue what is in the lip balms suggested here, so I cannot accurately say that they are also drying your lips. But I do know that when I started using the vaseline, I stopped having problems with dry lips. I hope you find something that works for you--I hate the feeling of dry lips, so I know what you are going through!

I have this same problem. From about November to May my lips are non-stop dry. At least they don't crack though, they just are always irritating.

I hope you like the Aveda - it's my favorite. I had been using Burt's Bees faithfully for a couple of years till it seemed to stop working. Then i moved on to the Aveda.

I might get the Vaseline to try, too. I love the mario, but at $7 if Vaseline is just as good, why pay extra?!?

Here are the ingredients of the MB stuff:

Ingredients: Lanolin, Palm Oil, Mineral Oil, Paraffin, Beeswax, Rose Hips Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Isopropyl Myristate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl Dimethyl PABA, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Extract of Black Currant.

Don't know if any of these are bad or not!

I have horrible chapped lips. The kind that crack and bleed from my picking at them.

I recently bought L'Occitane's Shea Butter Lip Balm Stick (http://usa.loccitane.com/product/product.asp?product=01BL005K5&variant=&=) and it feels amazing. I'm hoping it works. I've tried most of the lip balms mentioned here and none have helped. Anything with menthol seems to make my lips worse.

Kiehl's is good, totally unflavored and unscented, and I believe comes in tube, stick, or port form.

Smith's Rosebud Salve is, IMO, the best stuff ever, but it is very lightly flavored/scented and it only comes in a pot. But it seriously rocks.

I have a lip balm obsessed friend who swore by the Aveda stuff until she got turned on to Rosebud Salve, so I would think it would be worth trying as well.

I second the vaseline suggestion, that always works best for me when my lips are really dry.

Any suggestions for CHAPPED lips? My lips are in such pain right now!
It feels like the top layers of skin are gone and what's left is a slippery, sore layer. They are bright red. This happened one other time to me and it was when I was on Accutane. HELP!
oh - and I seem to be allergic to the SPF in lip balm - so that's out.

I use Carmex lip balm. It is medicated, so it tingles, but it works well (for me at least). HTH!

I swear by Labello by Nivea. It's gentle and doesn't stink and it cures my chapped lips in about 24 hours. I put it on at night before I go to bed and when I wake up the chappiness is gone and I just have to do a couple more applications the next day to take the sting away.

I've tried LOTS of lip balms. But the only two that really worked were L'Occitane Shea Butter Lip Balm Stick (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&keywords=l%27occitane%20Shea%20Butter%20Lip%20Balm %20Stick&tag=africanamer04-20&index=beauty-index&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325) and Rosebud Salve (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&keywords=Rosebud%20salve&tag=africanamer04-20&index=beauty-index&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325) .

I would try Vaseline first, since it's unflavored and not medicated. I'd avoid anything medicated until they heal. For regular lip balms, I like Kiss My Face. They're light but seem to moisturize really well. I also like Softlips.

I also like the Cherry Ice brand lip balm that I can get at my local Walgreens.too bad they seem to have discontinued this product. I have the smallest bit left (call me silly, but the BUZZ one and the SOY one just don't do it for me).

I second the Carmex. When I'm outside in the fall and winter (especially in NM or other dry climates) I *have* to use Carmex or my lips will get red and cracked. Otherwise, I've been using a Clinique overnight balm at night. I'm going to look into the l'Occitane stuff. Oh and the Khiels just didn't work for me AT.ALL. It left me more chapped and irritated than when I started and I found both the flavor and texture very off putting (I even tried it in all variations and formulas since I so wanted to love it).

Labello is a Canadian brand, so it's hard to find in the States. I found it at a specialty store, but it was much more expensive then in Canada.

I have to say that at less then $2.00 per tube, Vaseline lip balm is the best I've ever tried.

For those of you with very chapped lips, Carmex has an active ingredient that isn't as healthy for you. It is very addictive though and I used to love it.

Vaseline actually makes a lip balm called Vaselin Lip Therapy Advanced forumla. They have plain and cherry and it's excellent. I would truly recommend it.

The C.O. Bigelow 'My Favorite Lip Balm' is great. I had really badly chapped lips a few days ago and it really helped to heal it quickly. They have it in a tube or in a pot, IIRC.

.

What ingredient isn't healthy?? I just bought Carmex in a tube and was so excited 'cause I love the tingle but hate the dumb pot.
