Can you show me different types of edging that would be used around your flower beds? I wanted to do a slate rock type of thing but I think its going to be very pricey!! Ive seen the edgers and pavers but just not sure how to go about doing them and what they would look like...so Im looking for pics of yours that youve done..Was it pricey? Hard? Any recommendations?
Thanks!

just thought i'd mention that the previous homeowners put in rocks like you describe, and we really don't like them. it's hard to mow close to them, so we have to do far too much weed-trimming, and they are like 10 years old now - and we have problems with weeds growing up between them.
i'm actually thinking about removing ours, and just having the grass go into the mulching. i think it would look cleaner at this point.

We used brick pavers for our edging. We are not totally finished but here are a couple of pictures...

DH & FIL dug out enough sod and dirt so the pavers are almost level with the ground. So when we mow we can go right up to it and/or mow right over it. We still have to edge and weed once and a while, but not every time we mow.
As for price I can't remember how much it was. We actually didn't decide on the brick pavers until after we finish our brick patio. We had ton of pavers left over and thought it would be a good idea. Of course the pavers are more expensive than the black plastic trim that you can buy. For an est. I think the pavers were between $1 & $0.75.
As you can see we also use the decorative rock. We do get some weeds that come up through the rock, but not many, becasue we put down the black paper to prevent weed growth and then put the rock onto of the paper.
We love the look and can't wait to finish the rest of the landscaping. Good luck with your choice! :)

Bumping this up because I'm looking at doing something different for our edging as well. I have the black material up, and while it looks okay in the summer when the grass is nice and tall, it looks like crap in the fall/winter when it goes dormant.
I have a lot of feet to cover, so I'm looking for something inexpensive.

jessied1025, we have the exact same pavers around our landscaping (well, what we have done of it), I think! Yours looks very nice -- ours was a project that started late in the fall & once the snow started falling we had to put it on hold, but hopefully we can get some plants in and finish the project this spring!
I think our pavers were around $1 each. We went around the whole house, so I think we spent like $150 on them. At my stepdad's advice, we put them slightly above the ground level so that when the dirt settles this spring, they will be just about level with the ground which = easier mowing.
I don't have a picture of them just yet, though.
