We have a total invasion of tiny snails all over our garage door and on our front porch...they are even taking over the pumpkins out there!!

What do I do about them? How can I get rid of them?

Ive tried googling but I dont find much...but Im off to look some more! Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this!

Thanks!

Salt!

It kills them on contact.

They also don't like sharp things like broken eggshells spread in their path.

Cool...Ill try that out...but will it keep them from coming back? My DH used a bug pesticide on them that we had gotten for spiders but I dont think it worked....maybe but Im not sure! They are climbing up the side of our garage and down on the bottom of the brick so I couldnt use the egg shell trick for that...but I will try the salt!

I have had good results with the beer traps. You can usually buy them at a garden center or make your own: just a little plastic dish filled with cheap beer, buried about half way in the dirt. They like the smell, crawl in, and drown. You have to empty the dish and replace the beer every three or four days.

You can also wage a war of attrition against them, which takes a lot of patience, but works: you basically go out in the evening/after a rain and pick them offf your plants/porch/etc, and squish 'em. Eventually you'll have destroyed the whole population with this or the beer traps.

Or you can buy little pellets that are poisonous, which you spread around the area you're trying to protect and which they like to eat, but it kills them. But don't do this if there are pets/children in the area.

I found a snail on the hood of my car this weekend!! How funny is that? I have no clue how it could have gotten up there or how long. Sorry, I thought it was funny.

Salt works but it poisons the ground. "Salt the earth", you know? Don't do that near where you want to grow anything. Keep in mind a steady rain will wash it downhill as well.

I've heard good things about the beer traps.

There are pellets called Sluggo that work to keep snails away but are not poison to humans or dogs. I know they are available at Orchard Supply, but not sure where else. I had great results with these, but they are considerably more expensive than the poison.
