I got a new job where I will be standing on my feet most of the day with dress clothes on, (dress pants). I need new shoes, brown and black. I need some suggestions on some good styles and comfortable brands (preferably department store brands). I don't want any particularly FLAT shoes, but I don't want anything with TOO much heel. Got any ideas???

for the past 3 years i've done a LOT of standing at work, when i wasn't actually running around.

i know you're looking for dept stores, but i've found the j.crew line of shoes to be comfortable. i've got the Lucy & the Charlotte which don't exist anymore, but i know they have some comparable line out now. they have just enough of a heel so that your arches don't hurt at the end of the day.

actually, now that i look over there, almost all of their shoes have some sort of embellishment!

cole haan makes some comfy shoes too, with a bit of a heel...

I love Cole Haan and kitten heels, as mentioned above, but I'm not sure if I would want to stand all day in kitten heels. I find them comfortable, but they don't really distribute pressure very evenly, so I feel like standing in them day after day would make my back hurt - but I don't know, I sit most of the day.

I don't know what your style is or what your price range is, or how dressy you are looking for, but Nordstrom has a whole section of "comfort" shoes with brands like Born, Clarks, Naturalizer, Munro, Ecco, etc.

Here are a couple of pairs I think are cute:

Or these Cole Haan's are cute (they have the "Nike Air" technology in the heel, which makes them fit/wear more like a sneaker):

I second the vote for Aerosoles!
