I need some fashion advice.
I am headed to Maui next week for vacation. This is a vacay paid for by my dh's company so there will be a couple of events to attend, in the evening. I am totally committed to NOT overpacking like I usually do, so what should I bring, in terms on non-bathing suit clothes? I'd like to bring some stuff that can do double duty so I'm not packing 21 different outfits for seven days (sadly, I HAVE done this before.). Also, it is fa-fa-FREEZING in MD right now, so I'm not even sure what to wear for the long ass flight so I don't end up looking like a fool!
Thanks!

During the day you won't have to worry about what you wear. Maui is very laid-back and it's quite hot and humid there. Bring tank tops, shorts, loose yoga pants, a pair of flip-flops, and a pair of sneakers. Maybe a cute cover-up for the pool/beach.
In the evenings, for your events or nice dinners out, you probably want to bring a few light sundresses or a skirt and camisole. A pretty sundress and nicer sandals are fine for evening events. It rarely gets cool at night, but you can pack a lightweight cardigan just to be safe.
On the plane I usually dress in layers, because I find planes are always FREEZING. You might wear a cute pair of track pants, sneakers, and a sweater with a cami underneath. When the plane lands you can strip the sweater off--ready to go!

Ditto wendalah's advice. I just got back from the Big Island, and I wore shorts, Ts, capris, tanks during the day (or just my swimsuit & wrap) and then skirts and shirts for dinner. You can get as fancy as you think is appropriate for your husband's work events, but even for "dressed up" dinners in Maui and the Big Island, I never wore anything truly 'fancy'. This time I took a couple of linen skirts and some nice but fairly casual shirts. In Maui I had a couple sundresses and skirts w/ casual but nice (ie. nicer than Tshirts) shirts. In Maui we ate out all of our dinners at "nice" places like Spago and Nick's and Mama's Fish House, and I would say I was either perfectly dressed or slightly overdressed in all cases compared to everyone else. My husband wore khaki shorts, a shortsleeved button down shirt and flip flops to all dinners, and he was dressed fine also - it's just too humid for pants!
Have fun, we *loved* Maui!

Thanks for the info! We travel quite a bit, and I ALWAYS overpack. I promised DH I would try to pack much lighter this time, so I am stumped. We honeymooned on the big island, and I had so much crap it was embarassing!!! Same thing in Jamaica last year. But you're right, I never wear half the stuff I bring cuz it's too hot!
