I am doing IUI (for male factor), and since my cycles were so regular, my RE said I didn't need to do any tests or meds just yet.

But, my cycles have recently gotten a little off. I have been ovulating late for the past two cycles (usually O CD16-18, now I am at 23-24). It caused me to have my last IUI cycle cancelled. The nurse wants me to take clomid this next cycle to get me back on track. But I really want to know why my cycles have gotten off in the first place.

I have heard some of you mention having your horomone levels checked early in your cycle- CD3 I think. What is the test that you are referring to? I think that I want to request it. What does it test for?

Thanks!

I'd have to go back and look at my records, but I'm pretty sure they test your estrogen levels. If I remember correctly, the dr. is able to tell if your hormone levels are okay to react properly to the Clomid.

I'm sorry I don't have a more scientific explanation. I'll go back and look at my journal to see if I can pull anything else up.

Good luck to you!

Ok, found some more info. Here are the things they test on day 3:

Thyroid
Prolactin
FSH
Estrogen

Thyroid and prolactin can be tested at any point in the cycle. FSH and Estrogen levels are tested to ensure your hormones are at optimal levels to accept the Clomid and if you would be a good candidate for Clomid.

Hope that helps a little bit.

This site lists all kinds of hormone tests and when during your cycle they should be given.
