I can't picture Daniel Craig in this role... he's totally not what I imagine Bond to look like.
James Bond: Who will be next 007? (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/10/13/new.james.bond.ap/index.html)
LONDON, England (AP) -- The suspense is almost over.
Sony Pictures said Thursday it would end months of speculation on Friday, revealing the name of the next James Bond at a press conference in London.
Producers announced last year that they were seeking a replacement for Pierce Brosnan, who has played the suave British spy in the last four Bond films.
Since then, rumor has linked many actors to the part, including Britons Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler and Ewan McGregor, Irishman Colin Farrell and Australians Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana.
British tabloid reports this week said the role will go to Daniel Craig, a blue-eyed British actor who would be the first blond Bond.

Actually I think he looks a lot like the younger Sean Connery ... who I've always kept in my mind as *the* James Bond. I think he'll be good in the role! :)

He's so unattractive.

Is his hair dyed darker than natural in that CNN article pic? Because I don't call that blonde.

He's not what I would picture to be a Bond type.

I hope that's just a bad picture of him, because he's creepy looking there! He looks like he should be the villian, not the hero saving the world and charming his way into the bed of every woman he meets.

Uuuuggghh, no way.

Huh. That's so not a good photo of him. Think of his role as the bad son in The Road to Perdition. That sort of hard-edged elegance. That's why I think he'll be a good Bond.

Here's a gallery of photos from Road to Perdition...I've never seen it. I do remember him from the second Tomb Raider movie.

I just think he's too gritty looking. To me, Bond is a spoiled rich guy with lots of fancy toys. He shouldn't look like he's spent a lifetime baking on an African plain.

To me, Bond is a spoiled rich guy with lots of fancy toysAh, you've never read the books then. :) Bond is in no way a "spoiled rich guy". The whole gadget-happy, wisecracking Bond is not true to the original.
James Bond is supposed to be cold and ruthless - a bit of a womanizer, a drinker, a gambler, someone who likes the good life. He's a former commander in the Royal Navy (enlisted when he was 16 and worked his way up the ranks), an orphan, someone who was recruited to the "double oh" brigade because they thought he could kill with ease (although deep inside he's conflicted about his ability to do so). The books by Ian Fleming always describe him with a scar on his face, cold blue eyes, and a "cruel" mouth. He never relied on gadgets and gizmos and was supposed to be brilliant and extremely crafty.
I have all of the original Bond books and while I enjoy the movies, I'm happy that they're taking the character back to his roots and the way he was written originally.

Blah! He really does not look like a James Bond to me. If they do pick him, Ifeel like it's going to be like Timothy Dalton - one/two movies and you're out! Or even worse, George Lazenby! Who on earth picked him???
I loved loved Roger Moore. That's my type of Bond.

The best Bond was Sean Connery, but this guy doesn't remind me of Connery at all. His body is fine, but his face is just...ewww. I went through his entire IMDB gallery, too, so I'm not basing this one just one or two pix. He's character actor handsome, not leading man handsome. Although I do agree that Bond should be gritty. Just not this gritty.

Yeah, I don't think he looks like James Bond (from that picture) but I'm sure with help from a stylist that could change...a little. I was somewhat concerned it was going to be Clive Owen so I'm happy to see that isn't so. I think playing a role like that can typecast an actor, and that isn't necessarily a good thing.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this (http://www.bluematia.com/)page, you can see pics from all his films. While these photos are more Bond-ish:

I'm still not buying him as Bond. Yes, maybe he fits the literary character description better, but the reality is that probably 90%+ of the Bond movie watchers have never read a Bond book, so they're all picturing a Brosnan-eque type Bond.
I think the thing with Craig is that for me, he seems to be more of the "thinker" type (look at all those serious faces in the various galleries!) rather than the "quick thinking on your toes" type that is James Bond.

Eh - he's not doing it for me. I looked at all his pics on IMDB and just wasn't feeling it.

I kind of had my heart set on Clive Owen. :(

I kind of had my heart set on Clive Owen. :( You know, me too but then ivansbabe made a good point when she said I think playing a role like that can typecast an actor, and that isn't necessarily a good thing. I wouldn't want that to happen to Clive Owens.

I thought Brosnan was way too much of a pretty boy to be Bond. I liked Timothy Dalton much better.
As for Daniel Craig, as a blond, he looks all wrong to be Bond, but he looks unnatural with darker hair, not to mention even less attractive. So I really don't see how this is going to work, even with a stylist.

Daniel Craig unveiled as new Bond (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4337224.stm)
Actor Daniel Craig has been unveiled as the new James Bond.
The English star of gangster film Layer Cake arrived at a press conference in London by speedboat to be confirmed as the next 007.
The 37-year-old actor, who will be the sixth James Bond, said: "It's something else. I'm a bit speechless."
ETA:
What is this all about?
Neither Q nor Moneypenny will appear, Mr Wilson added, but it was not confirmed whether Dame Judi Dench will return as M. How can you have a Bond film without Q or Moneypenny?

Call him Bland, James Bland (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9546090/)

They’re calling him Bland — James Bland.
Last week, actor Daniel Craig was named to replace Pierce Brosnan as Agent 007. Among the other actors eyed during the lengthy search, the producers reportedly found Hugh Jackman “too fey,” Colin Farrell “too sleazy,” Eric Bana “not handsome enough,” and 5’10” Ewan McGregor “too short,” according to an alleged memo picked up in the overseas press. But plenty of fans of the series are finding the “Layer Cake” star too unBond-like.
Craig — perhaps better known for dating Kate Moss and being briefly implicated in the breakup between Jude Law and Sienna Miller than for any of his movie roles — was introduced to the press last week when he was brought to a press conference on board a speedboat. But the daredevil quality of the stunt was completely undone when Craig appeared wearing a life jacket. Craig compounded the problem when he commented that the ride had scared “the [bleep] out of me.”
Craig’s often-stiff answers to reporters’ questions also did not impress. “Why do you want to play Bond?” the gum-chewing Craig was asked. “Why not?” he replied. “What are the reasons for Bond’s enduring popularity?” came a question. Craig replied: “I don’t know the answer to that.”
The London Mirror called the event “embarrassing.” Complained one Brit TV commentator: “He looks more like a banker than James Bond.” Some fans are even less enthused. “Daniel Craig will NOT be my James Bond,” lamented a poster at CommanderBond.net on a thread devoted to Craig-bashing. “I really want this to be a bad dream.”

Oh my word--that press conference was a fiasco! He wasn't even trying to sell himself as Bond.

Really????He was my absolute favorite other than Connery. I wish the role had went to Clive Owen as well.

My favorite bond "men" were Roger Moore and Sean Connery (who ONLY gets better looking with age!). I never liked Timothy Dalton as James Bond, I think it was something about his eyes. I'm DEFINITELY not "getting" why they are now choosing this Daniel Craig guy!!! Ugh!
Eric Bana “not handsome enough,”
I don't know that I see Eric Bana playing the part, but Eric is DEFINITELY Handsome enough, at least IMO!
It won't let me post these but click here and DROOL: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/2026/Events/2026/EricBana_Grani_1215475_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Bana,%20Eric

Am I the *only* person in the world who thinks that Daniel Craig is a good choice? :( I really am interested to see how he'll play the role and I think he has a lot of potential to bring Bond back to the original concept.
*sigh*
