Anyone have a fun or cute story about their pet?
I had such an experience today that I wanted to share. I have a Yorkie/Shih-tzu mix dog who is a week away from his second birthday. :) This afternoon, I was out walking him with my son in the stroller. We were walking around a lake near my house. The path around the lake is about a mile long so the lake is not too big but large enough to have two small "islands" in the center where the geese and ducks congregate. A woman and her son were out feeding the ducks and geese so we stopped to watch. There were about 30-40 ducks and geese around her. Suddenly, my dog bolted towards the ducks and geese and his leash snapped. The geese and ducks high-tailed it for the water and my dog followed. He stopped at the water's edge and I planned on running to him and tying the leash to his collar but before I could move he dove in the water!! At first I was shocked and then I figured he would come right out. But he didn't! He kept swimming. He swam to the middle of the lake in the midst of the ducks and geese and kept right on swimming. He swam out near the other side of the lake and looped back, swimming around one of the islands, and down to the other end of the lake. I panicked and started trying to run through the high grass on the shore, pushing the stroller as fast as I could. I lost sight of him for a few minutes because he was surrounded by geese. I finally saw him again near the other end of the lake (but still in the middle). I was afraid that he had become confused about how to get out. I kept calling him but he did not show any signs that he had heard me. The woman and her son jumped in their car and drove to the other side of the lake in hopes that he would come to shore. He kept swimming. Finally, after almost TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES of swimming, the woman (who had come back to where I was) suggested that I keep calling him. So, I started calling his name repeatedly and he started to head towards me. He bee-lined back to the shore and got out. He seemed a little relieved to be on dry land but awfully proud of himself. What a silly dog!!!
