Hi girls,

I'm going to start taking 100mg of Clomid today for the first time. I'll be taking it for the next 5 days.

My question is - does Clomid make you ovulate earlier than you do without it? I realize this is a somewhat loaded question. I already ovulate on my own, usually on day 15 or 16. I'm just wondering if I might detect my LH surge earlier (i'm trying to plan ahead for some work stuff.)

Thanks!
Mooshie

I don't think it makes you ovulate earlier. I've read on here that the days the dr. has you taking it are for a certain purpose. Days 3-7 are to produce more eggs, and Days 5-9 are for bigger eggs, I think.

I've read a few people here who had a delayed ovulation because of clomid.

GL on clomid, it can have some powerful side effects.

When TTC if I did ovulate it was usually around day 30. When I took 100mg of Clomid I ovulated on day 15.

I'm sure it is different for everyone. Good luck!

I took Clomid for the first time this month, 50mg, days 3-7. I had minor side effects. I was really hot sometimes, but wouldn't call it bad enough to be a hot flash, and I was irritable last week. I ovulated on either CD 13 or 17.

cd3-7 is more common, but you get mature big eggs either way. When I took it I ovulated 2-3 eggs between cd12-14, and on my own I usually O'd late, cd16-19. If it's working, you should expect to ovulate within 5-9 days after your last pill. so between cd12 and 16 for you.

Good luck on the side effects, the 100mg dosage is much stronger and I had a lot of them when I was taking it. Just remember if the side effects are too much for you, tell your Dr! Mine switched me to a comparable medication and the side effects were much improved. Hope it works for you! :)

i, too, ovulated on my own and took clomid. i was also on 100mg. it's hard to say whether i ovulated earlier because i was given a trigger shot to force ovulation for my IUI. however, that was given when my eggs were of a mature size and that was much earlier than i usually ovulated. hope that helps!

I was wondering the same thing. I usually ovulate between CD16-18, but the last two cycles I haven't O'd until CD23-24. I will be taking clomid next cycle and I am hoping it will bring me back to normal.

I took Clomid for four cycles (100 mg. on days 3-7) and was ready to trigger slightly earlier than when I ovulated on my own. Without Clomid, I'd ovulate between days 16 and 18, but with Clomid I was usually ready for the shot at about day 13 (which means day 14 or 15 ovulation).

And FWIW, I experienced barely any side effects (at least from the Clomid; I'm convinced that a skin sensitivity issue I had was from the Ovidrel trigger shot -- never had it when I used Novarel instead). I had a few warm "surges," but nothing like the hot flashes others have described (they weren't really unpleasant at all). Other than that, I didn't have any symptoms (although I did gain a bunch of weight that my endo blamed on the Clomid). I'm telling you that because even though it's true that many women experience some horrible symptoms (and if you do, tell your doctor!!), it's entirely possible that you won't. So good luck!

I'm trying to keep my head in the sand as far as side effects go. I tend to manifest stuff once I've read that it's possible  . Although I'm probably kidding myself to think that I won't be back here looking up symptoms lest I should have any strange twinge...

Anyway, the plan for me right now is to try Clomid this month (w/IUI) and then move on to IVF next month if we don't conceive this month. No pressure... But I'm thinking positive thoughts!

Good luck to you!!! And if you do end up trying IVF, make sure to join the thread here....those women are a fountain of knowledge, and so incredibly supportive. But of course for obvious reasons I hope you never "have to" join. good luck!

Don't worry, with the clomid symptoms, they're pretty hard to fake. And they're pretty noticeable (just in case you're one of the unlucky ones like me who's sensitive to it!). Good luck this month, I hope it works for you before you move on so quickly to IVF. :)
