Yes, the Christmas displays have been going up in stores, but yesterday I heard Christmas music playing in a store. Don't worry, it was in the Christmas section only.
So, the Christmas season has officially begun! I'm still waiting on the first Christmas TV commercial.

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular ads are on all the time around where I live (slightly upstate NY)...and yesterday there was a Christmas commercial on TV, I forget who it was for, but my sister actually felt the need to call me to tell me it was on...

I saw Christmas displays in Costco and Macy's last month.
I've got a good portion of my Christmas shopping done. I've been visiting Silver Jewelry Club (http://www.silverjewelryclub.com/)and buying gifts for people. Silver and gemstone jewelry for $6 is perfect, in my opinion - it looks like I spent a lot, but I'm still on a college student budget! Okay, sorry, I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I really am pleased with the products and service there. I heard about the site from someone else on here and thought I'd pass the word along!

I've been buying Christmas ornaments since July. :p I collect Hallmark ornamants and I like to spread the costs out.
So far I have seen Christmas stuff in Target, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Kohl's and Hallmark.
uh... the weather here is still in the upper 80's, low 90's
I think every store I've been in has the Christmas stuff up and out (even the hospital gift shop!)

I went into Odd Lots today and they have some stuff--it was where the lawn and garden stuff was earlier. I have a feeling as soon as it was put away, the Christmas stuff came out.
I totally understand craft stores getting their things out early--they do this for every holiday--so you have TIME to make it for the holiday. I actually enjoy that.
But--I don't like the advertisments or music. By the time Christmas is over, DH is SICK of Christmas music (and he won't listen to it outside of work) because he works at Radio Shack and they play it over and over and over again.

I just finished designing all retail "holidays" (which equals Christmas...it's all red and green!) promotions for my clients as well as sending everything to be printed. We're already creating new years postcards and spring newsletters!
The fact is, you've gotta advertise all this stuff before the month of December so everyone has time to decide on what they're going to do in December, whether which decorations they'll buy or which presents they'll purchase....
I bought fall stuff for my house mid August and I'm already shopping for Christmas decorations!! I can't wait to take the fall decorations down and do my dreamy, dramatic Christams setup!!!!!

This is so true. We've made Christmas so ridiculously commercial that sometimes I'd rather just skip it. Which is sad because I used to love it. I loved decorating the tree the day after Thanksgiving, looking at ornaments, and gift shopping with my Mom. Now, there's just too much of it for me. It feels like it's more about bigger better decorations than it is about the true meaning of Christmas. We make it so much more stressful than it should be. I'm another one of those people who shops early, so I don't have to deal with the stressed out crowds in Nov/Dec. I'm almost finished now! Then I'll hunker down and wait for it to be over.

I really wish retailers didn't put out Christmas decor out before Halloween. I want to get through with one holiday before we move onto the next one! I don't see anything wrong with having Thanksgiving and Christmas items out at the same time, though. There aren't as many Thanksgiving decorations as there are Christmas ones, and for most people, Christmas shopping and decorating takes more time to complete.
I've seen Christmas decorations in Target. Macy's was still setting up their Christmas shop when I went this week, though.
I don't think I'll be buying any Christmas cards or decorations until November. But I am planning to start on buying Christmas presents soon, probably next week. I realize it isn't even fall yet (not until this Sunday :D ), but does anyone else secretly get this wave of happiness when they see winter/fall holiday decor, regardless of season? I just like the way the holiday makes me feel, and if I unexpectedly see it, it makes me happy. :p

The Wal-Mart by us has Christmas stuff out already. I was there this evening and it looked like they had recently cleared gardening stuff off of shelves and were just starting to stock Christmas items.
WAY too early
Ours had stuff over a month ago! Even before there was Halloween stuff, I was a bit shocked!

yes, I love the whole holiday season from Halloween through New Years. I love the cold (for a little while) and seeing holiday stuff reminds me it's almost here.
I like to decorate a little early to get in the mood. Halloween at the beginning of October, Nov 1st - Thanksgiving and then Christmas decorations the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Of course by retail standards I am already late but hey, a girl can only do what she can do.

I was at Target this evening and felt sick to my stomach. There is something seriously wrong when a store has firepits, Christmas stockings, and Halloween costumes all in the same spot at the same time. They might as well have added Valentine's Day candy and Easter baskets to the mix.

Yeah, I've heard that our local Dollar Tree has Christmas stuff out. I was at Michaels and bought quite a few floral Christmas picks...probably the same ones I bought last year and can't remember, but oh well. I have lots of vases and candles to decorate this year!
Christmas is my favorite time of year. I'm usually decorating right after everyone leaves for Thanksgiving Dinner. :) This year it will be nice since last year I took advantage of the after C-mas sales and actually organized all my stuff.
I usually don't shop until November, but so far I've already started my list and have purchased 2 presents already.

The only place I've seen Christmas stuff is at Horchow.com, but I'm glad they've got it for sale so early! Their stuff is so expensive that I figure between now and Thanksgiving, they'll have a few 20% off sales and I'll be able to afford the stockings I've had my eye on!
Anyway, I'm not much of a Halloween fan, so bring on Christmas!

I think that retailers have Christmas out extra early this year because Halloween is on a Wednesday making it a less than stellar day for retail sales. But retailers can always count on Christmas being huge, so they are bringing out Christmas extra early to make up for their loss on Halloween product.
At least that's what I've heard 'round town. (I work in the toy industry)

I just saw a house in my neighborhood that has wreaths up on the windows, a la the Pottery Barn catalog circa 2002.
I'm seriously considering calling the HOA about it. If we have rules about when you have to bring your trash can in and how high your fence can be, we should have rules about when it is acceptable to decorate for a holiday.

We do have rules about it. I believe that we are not permitted to have decorations out until after Thanksgiving. Which makes it even funnier that the city is putting out decorations. Wonder if they're going to get a $500 fine from the HOA?

I actually did call the HOA, and, basically, our covenants were written so long ago, and were so broad, that they don't specifically speak to anything like this. 30+ years ago, apparently, people had a little more taste and common sense.
Regarding city decorations, I've been told that, around here at least, the cities are at the mercy of the power companies to put the stuff up, so they have to abide by whenever the power companies can do it, even if it's really early or really late.

My local supermarket also exploded with Christmas stuff after Halloween. I was there the Sunday before and their seasonal aisle had candy. I was there the Sunday after and everything was replaced by Christmas...decorations, candy, stockings, you name it.
I also went into Starbucks last Wednesday (11-7) and not only did they have their winter drinks in (which is fine), the place was nuts. Christmas decorations, music and the people were wearing Santa hats! It was funny, the guy in front of me made a comment and the "barista" was like, don't you think it's cute and festive?
