You should put this over in the TV and Movies forum; I bet you'd get a lot more responses.

I couldn't agree more! I saw it in the theatre when it first came out & absolutely loved the movie. I lived in L.A. for awhile and that movie IS what it's like there. I've heard a few people say the movie was too 'in your face' and disturbing, but they've never lived there before, so to them, it might be a little too disturbing...

ETA: I just sent back Gone With The Wind (what a great movie!!!!), and currently have Kelly Clarkson: Behind Hazel Eyes.
Okay, I just broke down and joined (they sent me a 10 disk freebie package, so I thought it was worth it). I have ten movies in my que. My top two should ship later today (it's after midnight) - well, except that Wedding Crashers has a "short wait" instead of a "now" listing.
I have questions about the que though and I can't seem to find a key or legend...what does the checkable box under the red X mean? And what's the triangle thing-a-ma-gig next to that box? Are these things I should be checking?
Anything else I need to know about Netflix?

This is to delete the movie from your cue.
And what's the triangle thing-a-ma-gig next to that box? Are these things I should be checking?
This moves the movie up your list towards the top of your list.
I got Netflix a couple months ago and have absolutely loved it. We might not really be getting our money's worth since we are lucky to watch 1 movie a week, but the convenience factor is so high. The only problem lately is that the turn around has been so slow. I'm not sure if its them or the post office, hopefully it will get back on track.
I have 103 movies in my cue right now. Here are the top 25
Out Now:
Seabiscuit

I've been impressed with the speed over the holidays - I've still had a 1 day turn around on movies - so if I mail one back today, I would get a new one by Thursday (Friday at the VERY latest). I think it's because there's a center so close to us (in Phoenix).
woohoo! I have Wedding Crashers and Crash on their way to me!! Can't wait!

I'll post some obvious ones that you have most likely already seen:
Ray
The Island
Stealth
Collateral
The Terminal
For some reason I'm drawing a blank here. DH and I are big movie fans. I think the problem is we've seen so many movies recently.
I will admit to being cheesy and say that strictly for fun, DH and I both liked:
The Dukes of Hazzard
House of Wax
**slinks away in shame** :o

I've been renting TV seasons for shows like Veronica Mars, Arrested Development and Firefly. Next on that list is Wonderfalls.
For movies it's been all the typical new releases and the cheesy chick flicks I know DH will never watch with me (he's not home on Sat. so I can watch without any eye rolling on his part). But I've also been renting older classics like Easy Rider, Raging Bull, Taxi, Monty Python and Marx Brothers. I just discovered they have the old PBS Anne of Green Gables series so that's in the queue too. :P

Some less-known films that I have loved recently include:
Nowhere In Africa -- best foreign film (German) winner from a few years about a German Jewish family who flees to Africa during WWII
L'auberge espangnole -- French student spends semester in Barcelona with roommates from all over Europe
Triplets of Belleville -- bizarre animated feature about kidnapped Tour de France competitor
Also, did you see "Crash" yet? Best movie I've seen this year.

Goodbye Lenin was a great foreign film
In East Germany in 1989, Alex Kerner's (Daniel Bruhl) mother Christiane (Katrin Sass) falls into a coma just as the Berlin Wall is about to come down. Eight months later, she wakes up, but her heart is too weak to withstand any great shock. So Alex goes to great (and often hysterical) lengths to keep the truth about her country's reform a secret. This widely praised, Golden Globe-nominated comedy played in festivals around the world.

Junebug and In Her Shoes were REALLY great!
ETA: Checked my recent returns to add these: Creepy but good, The Machinist. I also really liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith - I love sarcasm and dry humor, so it was good for me. And Maria Full of Grace recently received a 5 star rating from me.
We just started Netflix, so I don't have a lot on my list, but I liked...
Out of Africa

Maria Full of Grace was a great movie.
Iris, have you seen Hotel Rwanda?
Yes, loved Hotel Rwanda. Such a travesty.
I saw Rabbit-Proof Fence and The Usual Suspects.
Rabbit-Proof Fence was a good movie but very slow moving. DH could barely contain himself! I had to yell at him three times to shut up :)
Australia's aboriginal integration program of the 1930s broke countless hearts -- among them, those of young Molly (Evelyn Sampi), Gracie (Laura Monaghan) and Daisy (Tiana Sansbury), who were torn from their families and placed in an abusive orphanage. Without food or water, the girls resolve to make the 1,500-mile trek home. Meanwhile, a well-intentioned tracker is trying to return the girls to the authorities.
The Usual Suspects was pretty good.

I got Out of Africa last week after seeing Three Day of the Condor and The Sting recently. (I'm on a Robert Redford kick right now.)
One thing I've noticed about Netflix: their new release list is TERRIBLE!! DH and I always check Blockbuster's list first, then go back and update our netflix qeue.

Just some thoughts on some of the Netflix movies we've watched so far:
In Her Shoes- I thought it was okay, but my DH hated it.
Transamerica - A little slow, but a good performance by Felicity Huffman. I'm not sure I'd really recommend it, though.
Wallace and Grommit- Really, really cute. Very sweet story, great animation. I definitely recommend it, whether you have kids or not.
The Family Stone - HATED it. Worst movie I've seen in quite a while. Terrible character motivation/development, stupid ending, implausible from start to finish.
Howl's Moving Castle - I liked it well enough. Not as good as "Princess Mononoke" or "Spirited Away," but if you like Miyazaki, you'll like this.
The Notebook - This wouldn't normally be my kind of movie, but I thought they did a very good job with it. It was definitely emotional.
Pride and Prejudice - Probably my favorite of the Netflix movies we've watched so far. Really good! I'm a big fan of the Colin Firth BBC version, but this was quite good as well.
Maria Full of Grace - Interesting. It definitely had some faults (like the ending) but I liked it overall.
Next up, we're watching Duma tonight.

Just bumping this thread up again and adding some thoughts on Netflix rentals we've seen lately.
Elizabethtown- Wow, I love Cameron Crowe, but this was a really bad movie! It just wasn't interesting at all and both Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst were highly annoying in their roles. It made me want to go re-watch Almost Famous and remember when Crowe was doing really good work. *sigh*
Wimbledon- Two Kirsten Dunst movies in a row was more than I could handle. This movie really wouldn't be all that bad if she wasn't in it!
Capturing the Friedmans- Intense and sad documentary, but really interesting. My DH and I ended up having different opinions as to what we thought happened & had a good debate about it.
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room- Excellent, excellent movie that will make you furious. But I highly recommend it. This is one of the best films we've rented from Netflix.
Lady in the Water- Oh Lord... the worst!! This movie is so bad, I really don't even have words for it. Thank goodness we didn't pay money to see it in a theatre, but I'm bummed to have been subjected to it on video.
Before Sunrise- The sequel to Before Sunset. Interesting if you liked the first one.
Hustle & Flow- Really enjoyed it! This is a totally entertaining movie, great performances, smart & compelling story.

The Darjeeling Limited
Eastern Promises
In the Valley of Elah
The Assassination of Jesse James
Into the Wild
A few movies we've rented recently:
Waitress- Liked it. Didn't love it, but I liked it. It's a sweet story, perhaps not worthy of all the hype surrounding it, but a nice film. It's not a chick thing, either. My DH liked it, too.
God Grew Tired of Us- Amazing and moving documentary that I highly recommend. I thought it would be a downer, but it wasn't at all. I found it really inspiring, actually.
300- Hated it. Lots of yelling and annoying camera work. IMO, best suited to 13 year old boys. Sorry!
La Vie en Rose- Good, but a little slow for a rental, for me. I think I would have enjoyed this more in the theatre. Great performances, though. It's worth renting.
