Wendalah -- I have a question about Paper Denim jeans...I have been wanting to try some for a while, but unfortunately the Nordstroms near me doesn't seem to ever carry them...what is the fit like? I've heard varying things -- also, is the shrinkage as severe as it is for Seven jeans? (Mine shrunk without even being dried...the spin cycle seems to do this)

Kalogrias--not sure I can be of completely accurate help as my PDCs are pretty old--I think I bought them before I was married! But, they do seem to ride lower than Sevens, and I like the fit in the thighs (I have skinny legs and a proportionately thick waist, so I am always looking for jeans that fit tight enough in the leg). So I'd say they are more on the lower-riding side with a lean leg. The shrinkage is definitely lower than Sevens (I've noticed the same thing about how Sevens shrink even when you line-dry them). I've washed this particular pair about 80 zillion times and they haven't shrunk, just gotten softer and more conformed to my shape.

Mom to Zoe--exactly. So I paid $160 or whatever for the jeans I have on...big deal, I've worn them literally hundreds of times. I've had them for at least two years and I'm suspecting three, actually (can't remember exactly when I bought them). I don't usually spend a lot of money on pieces unless I know I will be wearing them a lot, or they are particularly special.

I like this thread for the same reason I enjoy fashion magazines. It's fun to see how people put outfits together...am I materialistic and vain for enjoying a magazine? And, for the 80th time, we say where we buy the clothes or the brands of the clothes so those who are interested in clothes and familiar with what certain stores sell can get a "better picture" of what the items look like. Not because we want to brag about how much we paid. God.

I guess I get annoyed by comments about clothing-shallowness because, it's pretty much my one huge guilty pleasure. I could give a flying flip what kind of car I drive (if someone appears out of the sky and hands me a luxury vehicle, I'll happily take it, but I'm not going to waste money buying one myself). I hate interior decorating. I'm not a big makeup/beauty products person. I don't like "things" or gadgets.

I have fun with my clothes and I try to express myself creatively through them. It's such a harmless thing, I don't get why it's so reviled by some people.

Wendalah -- I'm with you on this one. My two things are travel and my clothing. Travel overrides clothing, but not by much, and, as you said, I don't really spend $$ on other things. My car is older, somewhat falling apart, but I don't really care, we rent and are fine with that for now, and I'm not into technology.

I tend not to care so much about what people say here because I don't know them, but it really annoys when people comment in real life. I have a co-worker who's constantly asking me how new whatever I'm wearing is, or making comments about how much it must have cost. It makes me want to strangle her after a while, especially since she has no idea how I choose to make my decisions beyond the ones I make professionally in front of her face. Quite frankly, it's none of her business that I bought a pair of Coach shoes -- because what she doesn't know is that I got them at the Naval Station Exchange, on clearance, for over 50% off. And I bought them because I was having a shit day, and they brought me pleasure (and continue to do so). Shallow? Maybe. But it's under 1% of my persona, so who cares?

Oop! You caught me. I do like to travel, and travel moderately well--at 34 I'm too old for bad hotels. :) But we budget for our trips the same way we budget for everything else. And I research like a demon before I book anything. I rarely use a travel agent, I just hunt myself for deals.

i totally agree. get a grip people! if you're gonna be jealous about something frivolous like clothes, doesn't that make YOU the materialistic ones?

like the other women, i just enjoy fashion. always have, always will. i'm sorry if that's not a part of your reality, because for me, it adds a fun and creative layer to my day-to-day. like wendalah said, it sort of becomes another "hobby". i don't harp on fashion, or take myself too seriously with it... it's just another way to express my individuality.

i shop everywhere: eBay, target, Sears, Saks, Bergdorf's...i'm willing to give anything a try! i like what i like, regardless of where it comes from or how much it costs. i admit, i used to think it was a little silly when people would post where they got their clothing from, because it had a bit of a braggish-E&S-feel to it. but as i got to *know* the personalities of the ladies that posted here, i've realized it's not about that at all. and it does really give you a better idea of what they're wearing, and see how their style-minds think!

I'm excited today because I found an old sweater I haven't worn in years that is perfect for "right now." It's a long off-white J. Crew henley in a loose, almost crocheted, knit. Whee!!! I love repurposing old pieces I've forgotten about.

Anyway, paired it with more old stuff:
Earl ankle-length jeans (really old--1999?) worn over beige slouchy suede stiletto boots (bought last year at BR on sale). The ankle jeans are more like midcalf jeans on me.

Unbuttoned as many buttons on the henley as decent for work. Wearing the turquoise horn necklace again layered with a small silver-and-gold cross necklace that I bought at a Catholic items store.

The usual diamond studs.
