If your baby was born with blue eyes, but they changed color, how long did it take to change?

DD was abot 2 when her color completely shifted. she was bright blue when she was born. deep blue around her first birthday and by her second birthday she was more of a hazel.

ETA: i have brown eyes and DH's eyes are a bluish green.

My older daughter's eyes were dark blue/gray when she was born. They were light blue by the time she was 6 months and are now the same blue at 2 years old.

My younger daughter's were the same at birth. Now at 10 months, they are a blue/gray hazel.

We started out blue and sometime between 6mth and a year they pretty much went to hazel. Strangely though, in just the right light you can still see some of the blue even though in most light you would never guess there was a trace of blue in there.

My son is only 7 months, but he was born with dark blue/grey.

His turned to dark brown around 4 months and I don't really see them changing from here (as my whole family has dark brown). We were hoping for blue/hazel as that's what my husband has..! ;) My clue was in pictures his eyes always looked brown, even though they were still on the bluish side, that's what sort of clued me in to his most likely switching over to brown. Just my own theory.

this interests me most...I have hazel, hubby has brown. I'm just giddy to see who's eye color she gets :D I'm impatient :D

I'm just giddy to see who's eye color she gets could get neither. I have hazel brown and my DH has blue/gray hazel. My younger daughter got my DH's but the bright blue eyes of my older daughter came from our parents/grandparents.

Try my picture theory...;) What color do her eyes look in pictures? Looking at pictures of my son at your DD's age, they look really dark in pictures, although I know they were lighter in person. Babies with really light blue/green eyes, it's very obvious in pictures.

As a side note, I'll hear my husband with him in another room saying- "Your eyes DO look blue!" lol, I think he's so upset that he didn't get his color, as having brown really makes him look JUST like me. ;)

DH and I both have dark hair and brown eyes. DD was born with dark hair and blue/gray eyes. She is 21 months old now and has blond hair and a unique grayish-hazel eyes. There was one time when she was facing the sun and someone commented that her eyes looked very green. Sure enough, they did. But mostly they look like they are going to be brown. Her color started to change around 6-9 months, IIRC. I have pictures of her as a young baby (2-4 months) and her eyes look really blue.

DS was born with blue eyes (dark blue) - they turned to brown by about 4 months. DD was born with gray eyes and they tured to brown by about 3 months. I have brown eyes and DH has blue/green eyes.

I think a lot are born with hazel, gray or brown eyes. Our daughter was born with hazel and they've gotten browner, though there's still plenty of green and some blue in them.

I have read in several places that caucasian babies are born with blue eyes and that Asian and African American babies are born with brown. DD was born with very dark brown eyes, just like mine. I am adopted but I don't think there is any Asian or African American in me. Who knows.

DS was born with light grey/blue eyes. At 6 months they are now green/hazel. I bet they turn brown soon. I wish they would stay green/hazel.

I read in one of my baby books that all babies have blue eyes in utero, that is regardless of genetic make-up. That would explain so many of them coming out with blue eyes! ;)

I guess like all other physical characteristics, things can be not really set until they are a couple of years old.

My DS was born with very blue eyes and now at almost 8 months they are still very blue. His pediatrician said that they probably will not change based on the color blue that they are. She said that babies with blue/grey or dark blue eyes usually change, but if they are light blue they usually remian the same.

Nora was born with dark blue/gray eyes, and at 20m they have lightened somewhat to a medium blue. I was born with blue eyes, though, and now I have green. I know they were still blue when I was two (I've seen photos) and don't know just when they changed.

We are surprised by our blue-eyed, strawberry blonde baby, as we are both dark brunette (my hair is nearly black) and my husband has dark brown eyes.

DS has green/ hazel eyes at almost 7 months. I think they started changing around 4/5 months. My opthalmologist said eye color can change up to 5 years. DH has blue eyes and I have brown, so who know what they will end up?

I'm really interested to see what we'll end up with. DH and I are both brown eyed and brunette, but we both have blonde blue eyed parents (his mom, my dad). We have a 25% chance of winding up with a baby that looks nothing like us! What is really funny is that my sister is blue/blonde, and his brother is blue/red-blonde (they have different dads though). INTERESTING! So, I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up for a blue eyed baby even if he comes out that way, huh?

The San Jose Tech museum has an exhibit right now on genetics. They have a really cool online tool to see what eye color your children could have. Go to this link and try it out.

Oh lisa, You have no idea how impatient I am to find out too and DD isn't even 2 weeks old yet!:D I'm sure they will turn to brown since DH is Mexican and I highly doubt there is some other blood lines in there. I'm 50% Mexican and I have greenish/blue eyes but my Italian side is light and my grandpa had bright blue eyes and my mom's side also has colored eyes.

DD was born with the grey/blue eyes and I'm just hoping that maybe they will be hazel or green but I'm not really holding my breath. We'll just have to see.

Going to check out lauralu's link...

Helena was born with brown eyes and her eyes are still a gorgeous chocolate brown, just like her Daddy's, who is Mexican.

Marisa was born with the brightest blue eyes and at 3 mos they still are the same shade of blue. My eyes were blue until I was about 6 and now they are a bluish-green, leaning more towards green. So, we'll see what happens with Marisa as she gets older, but I would love for her to keep her blue eyes. I love brown eyes too, but she would look so striking with her dark hair and blue eyes. Only time will tell.

The thing about that online tool is that it is simplified, and thus tells me I cannot exist! (I am the green-eyed child of two blue-eyed parents.)

Same here. We knew she would have brown eyes though. Mine are more of a light brown/hazel and DH's are dark brown. Hers are dark brown just like daddy's (and both of her grandmas and grandpas).

Genetics are a crazy thing though. One of my friends is filipino and caucasion and her husband is african american. Both of them have dark hair (brown and black) and dark brown eyes. Well their daughter has light blonde hair and bright blue eyes (she's almost 9, so no, they aren't going to change). My friends dad (her grandpa) who is caucasion has blue eyes and had blonde hair before he went grey....so yeah, that's where she must have gotten it from. She is cute as can be though. She looks just like her dad.....but with a blonde almost afro (looser curls) and bright blue eyes :)

So you never know :)

HAHA! Talk about genetics!
Booey- Do I know you?? What you just wrote could be my story..but I'm not Filipino. ;)

I am half caucasian and half hispanic. Dh is half caucasian and half african american. We both have dark brown/black hair and dark brown eyes.
DD was born with bright blue eyes, blonde hair and super light skin.

DD looks EXACTLY like my blonde hair, blue eyed dad! DH is adopted so we dont know what his parents looked like.

Everyone said DD's coloring will will change "in 6 months". Then they said "by her 1st bday". Yep. We're still waiting. She turns 1 next month :D

I think its FUN to have a blondie...except we get LOTS of weird looks and some stupid remarks when the 3 of us are out together. You would not believe how many people have asked me outright if DH is her father. GRR!!

FWIW though, her eyes have lightened. I'm thinking when all is said and done, she will have green eyes like my little bro.

I was waiting for you to post in here Cindy;)

I have green eyes that often appear blue in the sun, DH has super blue eyes. DD was born with blue/grey eyes and they have since turned hazel, but are leaning toward the brown side...she may end up with brown eventually. Between my husband and I there is only one person with brown eyes in our family...all of our siblings have either green or blue and so do 3 out of 4 of our parents...

My Step-Sister on the other hand, has dark brown hair and eyes, so does her DH (in fact he is middle-eastern). They have 3 daughters and 2 of them are blonde and blue-eyed...

Guess you never can tell...:)

Ava was born with very dark blue, almost black, eyes. She'll be 2 in December and since she was about 4-6 months old her eyes have been the loveliest dark olive green. They're actually a dark version of my mother's eyes and so beautiful.

That genetics tool is cool, but wrong. You would need to go back one more generation for it to be accurate. It says our baby has a 100% chance of having blue eyes, but both of us have a brown eyed parent. I believe it's more like a 50% or 25% chance of us having a blue eyed child (anyone remember how to do punit (sp?) squares?) because brown eyes are dominant.

At 5.5 months old, DD still has grey eyes with brown flecks here and there. Depending on the conditions her eyes appear green, grey, or brown. I'd love it if they stayed the way they are currently, but I'm assuming that they'll eventually turn a true brown.

My dad is the only brown eyed grandparent. All the others have blue eyes.

my eyes went from blue to green but not until I was in about 4th or 5th grade so they don't always change early.

LOL Stacy. I rarely read other posts, but this one caught my eye! :)

I used that tool last year before DD was born. Based on what I entered, it said I had an 8% chance of having a blue or green eyed baby.

I told my mom about my CHANCE. We laughed and said well, its still a CHANCE! So, when DD was born with her baby blues, we could not stop laughing.
