I know this forum is for current mamas, but I thought you guys would best be able to provide some direction because you've already gone through the process.
DH and I need to register in the next two weeks. Can anybody provide some direction about the best and worst stores?
TIA!

I was very pleased with Babies R Us. I also liked www.onestepahead.com

I was somewhat pleased with babies r us. Except it seemed if people bought on-line, there was some lag time with it updating your registry and risked duplicate gifts. I received 2 dup gifts and when I looked into more both times were bought online. However, babies r us are super easy with a return even with no receipt if you have a registry with them.
Target.... Ugh.. Terrible, Terrible, Terrible. Should have learned through my wedding registry. But I needed to register for those that didn't want to go to Babies R Us or try to venture to buying on line. I really only registered for small items and still had trouble even with a registry. Also there inventory really seems to change quite often. I also looked and saw that some of my items were always being discounted.
Good Luck!

I did hear that Baby Depot is terrible since you can't get a money back refund if you return something. It's exchange only which I hate.

Thanks for the responses! So far they seem to support my suspicions, I've heard too many bad stories about Target so I think I'll stay away from that. I love the selection at Baby Depot but don't like the exchange only policy. I guess that leaves us with Babies R Us. What about Pottery Barn Kids?

we registered at BRU for basic baby essentials, PBK for bedding/room decor/furniture and The Right Start for higher end baby gear and unique baby essentials and we have great experiences with all three. :)

PBK was great; didn't have any problems with them whatsoever. I decided to return/exchange a couple of the items that people bought for us online, and they were able to do it no problem at their bricks and mortar store.
Another vote for BRU; it was a very smooth process for us. :)

does anyone know what the return policies are for BRU and BBB? is it for store credit or cash or what?
trying to decide whether to register or not!

I just read the policy a couple of weeks ago. I think it's pretty standard: If you have the original receipt, they'll refund your form of payment. If you have a gift receipt or no receipt, they'll only give you store credit.
I hear such bad things about Target's registry, but isn't it the same as this?

just thought i'd throw an idea out there in lieu of the traditional store registries. also, wondering if anyone else went this route. i am doing a registry on www.myregistry.com. i really don't like the idea of being limited to only one store for a registry bc i like the idea of people being able to shop around. in addition, not everything can be found at only one store. its also good for those who are concerned about supporting local businesses and buying fair trade products bc you aren't only limited to the mass produced items. one drawback seems to be that someone who doesn't have internet access would have a more difficult time using the registry.

BRU was great for returns and in-store purchases. BRU online sucked, though. One item someone purchased for me ended up backordered for six weeks (it was a nursing stool, so it would have been nice to have early on). I ordered my carseat from the website, and they sent the wrong one. Not only that, but they were UNABLE to send the right one - apparently the item was mismarked. So I had to deal with sending the carseat back, and then track down the right one from another store (which was difficult because it was a BRU exclusive item - I had to buy it NIB on Ebay). Then I had to wait until they got the carseat back for them to credit my credit card.
