Yoda is actually my DH's cat. My cat is Joule, my big fluffy maine coon.
As a kitty, hard to believe that she was so small she had to have a step to sit on to see out the window.

I don't have pictures of it but if the dogs don't eat all of their food she will eat it (well only one piece of it), she follows me around the house, and she greats me at the door when I come home. The only thing she doesn't to is fetch!

I mentioned this in another thread...the only time Jade sat IN the sink was right after she was spayed. Now, she's too big to fit in our little sink!
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4db31b3127cce9a219896001200000016108QZuWjlq5a0
Jade also thinks she's a dog sometimes! When we first adopted her, she spent alot of time with the family dog, Jackpot. At 7 weeks, she was not afraid of him and walked right up!

One of my favorite photos!
Tonysweetie - I wish I had a picture of Jade running around with a pair of DH's socks in her mouth, much like Max and his Sponge Bob doll! It was quite a sight when she was really little to see this tiny kitten running off with a big ball of socks in her mouth. She also used to play fetch, but now is above such things.

I'm loving all the pictures and stories of everyone's kitty furbabies!
As for myself, DH and I adopted our Duncan right after we got back from our honeymoon (July 02), he was about 6 weeks old, and fit into my overalls pocket.
http://bunnybeth.net/images/hairshort.jpg
After a few months alone, we decided he needed a friend to play with, so we went back in February and found our Connor, who is about 1 month older than Duncan.
http://bunnybeth.net/images/conbed.jpg
After the adjustment period, our boys got along together great! Many people are surprised they aren't littermates.
http://bunnybeth.net/images/yinyang.jpg
http://bunnybeth.net/images/catbath.jpg
They are both really friendly cats, and Connor purrs about 24/7. Now for nicknames....
Connor: Tubby, Spud, Tubtastic, Catard, Contastic
Duncan: Stripes, Dunc, Evil Squirrel, Fly Killah
Silly photos in next post due to the photo limit....

bunnybeth, how long was it until your cats got along? How did it work out with dominance issues?
Sorry to hijack, I am dealing with this now and the vet wants to put our one cat on prozac, so I'm trying to gather info.

I love everyone's kitties. Since I have moved I do not have a kitty anymore. My mom has a cat at her house so I shared her when I lived at home. She was such a sweet kitty and then has turned evil, always biting :(
I will have to find pics but her name is Rose, Rosie, Rosemary but I call her Pussywillow.

Jenette: Too funny about runnign around with DH socs, Max does the same thing, he loves anything he can carry around. I think he has anxiety issues, seriously, he is ALWAYS where I am at, and if I dare leave a door shut on him and he thin k sI"m in there is FLIPS out. So he carries around thing w/him for comfort, I think it's cute! lol

It actually didn't take too long at all. A couple of days we had them serperate. Then, we let them out with supervision (i.e. when we were home and awake) for a few days and they sorted out their issues. That was pretty easy, because they are both friendly and Duncan, the scardy cat, was soon dominated by Connor. It probably only took about a week overall. We were lucky that we were able to pick 2 cats that mixed together so well. If only things went so easily with our 2 rabbits, we're still having trouble bonding them!

Can I join? I'm a cat momma. I have two furbabies.
Joey is my first furbaby. He's 8.5 yrs old. He is a really sweetheart. He has quite a sweet tooth. He loves miniature marshmallows.

Audrey is our younger furbaby. She's 2.5 yrs old. She's very playful and loves playing in the bathtub (without water in it, of course).

The two don't get along all that well. Joey isn't playful and Audrey likes to play all the time. That causes alot of fights.

Aaawww...my kitty Kermit does that all the time as well. In fact he just loves bathrooms in general. He loves to sit on the floor while I take a bath, or even while I'm in the shower. Anyone else's cat do this? Not to mention sitting in there while I use the toilet---crazy cat. :D The bathroom is his safe spot during thunderstorms{which scare him}. Here he is hiding under the sink at our old apartment during a storm:

I wish I still had pictures of mine on my computer, but they suffered from the wipe & repair of a couple months ago.
Molly is 7 & 1/2. She's a gray short hair whose stripes faded as she got older. She's a high maintenance snot. ANYTHING that can be opened should never, ever be closed. The entertainment center doors. The cabinet doors. The dresser drawers. ALL doors. Her nicknames are Peanut and BratChild.
Max (Maxwell Zachary, actually) is 5 & 1/2, a brown/black MaineCoon with a little smudge of white and orange across his nose. His nicknames are Noodle, FatMan (to the tune of the old Batman tv theme song), and BooBoo. He's my snuggle bug, my affectionate one, he'll come running for a nuzzle anytime I snap my fingers, while Molly seems to only be affectionate when she knows I'm upset.

Yeah, both our kitties love the bathroom. I don't know why.
I cannot, absolutely cannot use the bathroom without both kitties running in after me. If I latch the door, where they can't push it open to get in, they yowl the whole time I'm in there. They don't do this with DH.
Lately, Joey has taken to sleeping on the rug in front of the toilet. You have to place your feet carefully when getting to the toilet. He, also, loves to look in the toilet bowl while it is flushing. Sometimes he'll bat at the the water when the bowl is refilling. Very funny to watch, but messy because he splashes the water everywhere.
Also, if I take to long getting out of the shower after I turn the water off Joey starts yowling. I accidentally started this habit of his. When he was a kitten he would sit right outside the shower while I showered. Right afterwards I would pick him up and pet him, because he was just so cute sitting there waiting for me to finish.
Oh, I forgot to mention nicknames:
Joey's are JoeJoe, JoeBurger, and George
Audrey's are Squeakers (she doesn't meow, she just squeaks), Otter (because she's sleek and as playful as an otter), and Flopper (she flops onto her side when you start petting her)

Jade will cry if you don't let her come in the bathroom with you! She especially loves to get an earrub while I'm on the john for some reason. She also likes to drink from the sink and sit in the shower (not while it is on). She's a weirdo!
Tonysweetie - for some reason, she just LOVES DH's socks, and only his socks. If he leaves his sock drawer open, you come home from work to find like 6 pairs strewn about the house!
As for adoptees bonding...after 2 years, Sissy and Jade will tollerate each other. They'll sleep near each other, but there are still fights. I think the mistake was getting not only a second female but an OLDER female. But we just felt so bad for Sissy, being 5 years old in a shelter! She needed a home! And it was totally worth it since we've seen her grow and become such a happy kitty. For the first 6 months she hid constantly. Now, she sleeps by my head every night (on her own special pillow - yes, she's spoiled!).

Oh Max is a major bathroom kitty too. Especially when were in there. Well his litter box is in the bathroom so maybe that's why. He cries if I shut the door on h im too. And he thinks the best love time is when I'm on the toilet also. ;) It's kinda strange...
Does anyone else's cat attack the toilet paper roll? Max just started doing this a few weeks ago. We went througha 12 pack ot TP in like less than a week and 1/2. I bought a 24 roll pack the other day and had to hide it in the closet and we have to keep our toilet room door shut at all times if not as soon as he see's that door opened he runs ad attacks it to shreads.
jnettie
10-07-2005, 09:58 PM
Jade attacks paper towel rolls. The TP is purposely too high and away from anything she could stand on. I have to keep the papertowels in a drawer because she'll wrestle with it! Then it becomes confetti!

I wanna play too - this thread is so great!
We have 2 cats. The older one is Pepper, my big fat white fuzzy kitty who sheds white fur EVERYWHERE. She is 9 1/2 years old - I adopted her 8 years ago. She's my buddy, & even though she's kind of aloof sometimes & only wants love & attention on her terms, she's still my sweet kitty. She sleeps on my pillow, purrs in my ear, "happy foots" on me until I make her stop because her claws are digging into my skin, & when she's in the mood, she'll even play fetch with her little cat ball.

4 years ago, I brought a black tortie kitten, Ginger, home from the shelter. I went to there with a friend "just to look at the kitties & puppies"...but of course Ginger melted my heart right on the spot & there was no way I could leave without her in my arms. Now at age 4 she's still FULL of energy. She seriously wants to play 24/7, & she is also very mischievous. She steals food off of our dinner plates when we're not looking (or sometimes even when we are!), she steals food from the kitchen, she steals pens from all over the house & hides them behind the bathroom door, & if you accidentally leave the toilet seat up with a tissue in the bowl, she's sure to find it & make a TOTAL mess of the bathroom (not to mention herself) trying to fish the tissue out. She's also the happiest cat I've ever had; she purrs all.the.time. Plus she is SO darn cute...she's absolutely got both me & DH wrapped around her "paw", so to speak.

More Ginger picture in the next post...
Unfortunately Pepper was not so excited when I brought Ginger into our home. She hissed & growled at her for a week or two, & then she just gave up & learned to tolerate - but not like - Ginger. Every once in a blue moon I catch them snuggled up sleeping together on the bed or licking each other's heads, but more often than not they fight. I think most of the time Ginger starts the fights because she wants to play with Pepper, but Pepper's not interested in joining in the "fun".

Ginger went through this phase last year where she was fascinated with the shower. She'd sit in the bathroom & watch me shower, & afterwards she'd get in the shower stall & sit on the wet shelf watching the water drip, etc. One time she sat in there all by herself for over an hour! Hee hee. She seems to have grown out of this phase now, though - although she does always follow me to the bathroom whenever I go in there.

OOOh I want to play too!!
This is our new furbaby Captain.
We brought him home from the shelter and were trying to come up with a new name, and I mentioned that it was his new birthday. Curt said, "well today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day". I laughingly said, "so you want to name him pirate?" and he said "no...how 'bout Captain". And that was that!

MapleKitty, your Captain looks a lot like my Max!
I am so glad I am not the only one with bathroom obsessed babies. I have to obsessively keep the toilet lid down, since they both love to sit there when I'm in the shower, or putting on make up, or whatever. So much so that one time I had company over (this was when Max was a baby), who left the lid and seat up, and Max went running in there....splish splash, wet, ticked off baby!

Maplekitty...Captain is so beautiful! Isn't funny how we come up with names. One kitty we had when I was in HS was named Lil after the Beetles song "Rocky Raccoon" - "Her name was McGill, she called herself Lil, but everyone knew her as Nancy." And that was completely random and after many failed names...somehow that just stuck.
Sazoo - another tortie mommy! I think we have the same cat! Jade (my tortie/siamese) always goes into the shower right after I take a shower and stares at the drain like a mental patient. It's so weird. She's 3 and still plays like a kitten. In fact, if I don't find time to play with her, she'll drive me nuts nipping at my toes until I do!
She sleeps on my pillow, purrs in my ear, "happy foots" on me until I make her stop because her claws are digging into my skin,
We call this "making biscuits" because the kneeding action is like when you kneed bread.

We call this "making biscuits" because the kneeding action is like when you kneed bread.
It seems like every cat owner has a different term for this behavior. My mom always called it "happy footing" so that's what I call it now, but I've heard other people refer to it as "kneading" - similar to your "making biscuits" term. Funny! :)

Funny!
I've actually never heard anyone else except me & my mom refer to it as "happy footing", but it's just what I'm used to so that's what I say. They do it when they're happy...right? ;)
When I was in HS we had a cat who would get so happy when he was happy-footing that he'd actually drool while he was doing it!
Of the 2 cats we have now, Pepper happy foots a lot, but Ginger doesn't as much. However, when she does...she does it in the air usually - rather than on a blanket or on our clothes, etc. It's really funny to see her stretching out her paws in the air over & over again like that (like when we're holding her in our arms on her back, or something). Silly kitty. :)

I was so proud of Sissy yesterday, so I had to post her story here and tell you all about the incredible step she made yesterday!
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5dd35b3127cce90fa62188c5f00000015108QZuWjlq5a0
This is Sissy. (She's also my avatar!) We got her 2 1/2 years ago at an animal shelter. DH wanted to go in just to "look". Then there was Sissy, a 5 year old cat, scared in her cage. The workers told us she used to live in a house with an old lady who had lots of cats. Then the old lady died, leaving them all homeless. Only Sissy didn't have a home. Our hearts, of course melted. We went home without her that day, but a week later we were back (DH, the dog person, was the one that insisted  ) and we brought her home.
It was tough for a while. We kept her alone in our bedroom for a month. It's the only room in our little apartment that we can close a door to keep Jade and Sissy seperated. All Sissy did was hide. I had to bring food to her every day to be sure she was eating. I checked the litter to make sure she was "going."
After a month we decided it was time to let the girls mingle, but it wasn't pretty. Sissy continued to hide for another 6 months. If the two happened to meet, there was a fight. Once, Sissy really scratched Jade...it was a little scary.
In a year, Sissy was out more. Slowly she started sitting closer to us. She loved ear rubs, and soon started meowing really really loud to ask us to pet her. How could we refuse?
In 2 1/2 years we've learned lots of things about Sissy. We're sure she was horribly neglected which is why she was so scared of us at the beginning. After an ear infection when my Step-mom was watching her, Step-mom asked if Sissy is deaf. We never put the signs together before, since we were so worried about other things, but she is most certainly hard of hearing. (Loud meows, not scared of the vacuume, sleeps very soundly, can sneek up on her.)
But the most amazing thing happened yesterday. Sissy sat on my lap! This is huge. She has never done more than put a paw on me. I knew she was working up to it lately. But yesterday, she stood on my lap, so I started rubbing her ears. After a few minutes she sat down! I was about to go to bed, but I decided to stay up a little longer to let her sit.
So, I am so proud of Sissy! It was such a slow process, but she has come so far! She's a real cat now, not a poor little scared thing that hides and runs from people. It's really inspiring when you can see such a difference.

That's such a wonderful story! I can't tell you how happy it has made me to see all of the kitties in this thread who have been adopted from shelters. There are so many of them out there who desperately need homes, and I love seeing all of this great adoption stories.
And yay for Sissy! You should feel very proud and honored - Sissy is recognizing you as trustworthy and loving... quite a step for a kitty who had it so rough before.
We have a kitty who is deaf too. When she meowed (howled is more like it) for the first time after we adopted her I thought she had gotten hurt or something!

Sheltered animals are the best ones. They seem to be more full of love! My Dog scooter, well really my parents dog, we got him from a shelter when he was 6 weeks old and now he's 16 and he has been the best dog I've ever had! So lovable and happy all the time. Then me and DH adopted Max when he was 2 months old and he is just sooo loving and cuddly. I just love rescue animals :) :D
ps...now I want another one, lol

Max did the cutest thing today! I had folded up laundry on the bed. There were about 5 towels stack up ready to put away and I couldnl't find him and I was calling him name etc. Well when I walked into our bedroom he had himself up under the towels jsut snoozing away. All I could say was "AWH" and took a picture....

OMG! I laughed so hard I cried a little! I watched it 3 times in a row until DH asked if I was crazy.
On shelter cats (and other animals)... I have always had shelter animals. I think that we created domesticated animals, so now we have an obligation to care for them. If they need a home, I have one with comfy pillows to sleep on and lots of tuna fish! ;)
It was really rought with Sissy for the first few months. DH and I almost gave up a few times. But then she'd make a little leap... and she's just so sweet!
Max is so funny! what a character!

ITA!! All our boys were shelter cats (full grown, not kittens) and I swear it's like they knew they were rescued. We've had cats that were given to us in the past, and they tended to hide, hiss and be totally anti-social. But our boys love to be in the thick of things. If someone new comes over, it's like a rush to see who can sit on the new lap first! :)
And I just have to share this!
This morning I decided to get some of my closed toed shoes out of the attic. I opened the little latter thing and walked up and started digging for my shoes (mind you I am completly blocking the entry way). So I get ready to go down and I see Xander walking through the attic to the complete other side!! (our attic is REALLY hard to get through--so I couldn't chase him out. I have no clue how he got up there without me seeing!). It took myself, my FH, my mother and father to get the little rascal out!! We got him out by shaking a plastic bag (he loves 'em!). If I wouldn't have been late for work, it would've been the funniest thing! 4 adults chasing one cat who's out for an adventure!!
This is Xander...in less trouble :)

Both of our "boys" are shelter kitties. They were both born at the shelter and were the last ones of their litters, so we had no choice but to adopt them both. The crazy thing about it was that when we went to the shelter, DH thought we were only getting one cat, but I wanted 2, and well, we each fell in love with one, and it's funny because from day one, each cat KNEW which one of us they really belonged to and even after them having to stay with my parents for 18 months, that hasn't changed! Their personalities totally fit what each of us wanted in a pet. I wanted a cat that resembled the cat I had to leave behind to move out and I wanted a cat that wanted love and affection and cuddling and the whole shebang. DH wanted a cat that wouldn't mind attention sometimes but wouldn't notice if he went weeks without it either, and that is exactly what we wound up with. My cat is totally all about being all over you every time you sit down. And we sometimes go for days without seeing my DH's cat. We got them wow, it will be 6 years ago in March.
Here is "my" cat Beamer:

I wanna share my kitties, too!
Here is my cat Fancy. She is 8 years old and was a stray. I was working at a daycare and a cat wandered up and had kittens and I got one of them. I picked her because she has spots on her sides and tummy. She is very timid and usually will only cuddle up to me.
http://images.snapfish.com/344%3C735923232%7Ffp3%3B%3Dot%3E234%3B%3D%3A87%3D7 66%3DXROQDF%3E2323966%3B4%3B959ot1lsi

Then my FH said he wanted a cat and finally this past summer I gave in. I was worried about how Fancy would react to a new cat. In June, we adopted Ryoki (pronounced Rio-oki) when she was 3 months old. She's now 7 months old and growing out of her kitten stage already! She's not nearly as rambunctious (sp?) as she used to be. But she's a big sweetie, and loves to cuddle and purr.
A couple of early Ryoki pics
http://images.snapfish.com/344%3C735923232%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E234%3B%3D%3A87%3D766 %3DXROQDF%3E2323966%3B443%3B4ot1lsi
http://images.snapfish.com/344%3C735923232%7Ffp47%3Dot%3E234%3B%3D%3A87%3D766 %3DXROQDF%3E2323966%3B443%3B8ot1lsi
One I took the other day (she's getting big!)
http://images.snapfish.com/344%3C735923232%7Ffp7%3Enu%3D325%3A%3E996%3E675%3E WSNRCG%3D3232%3C648%3A7%3A66nu0mrj
It was quite an experience socializing our cats. Fancy hasn't really been around another cat in a long time and she's scared of men, plastic bags, and is really jumpy. But after separating them for a few days, they hissed and Ryoki chased her a lot, but now they are civil. They aren't quite buddies, but they will sit relatively close to each other and tolerate it. Ryoki just wants to play with Fancy, but she's way over that.
This pic was engineered by me...I put Ryoki closer to Fancy so I could take a pic of them both.

This probably isn't the right place for this, but there are so many cat moms on here, I figured I'd get the best response on this forum!
I have a kitten who is teeny tiny... see picture:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b214/Tracie58712/IMG_1661.jpg
(*sorry for the nasty picture of me!! Just a note, the hairy leg in the picture isn't mine, I promise!!!)
Well, she likes to run in and out of my legs when I'm walking. This morning, she was playing like she usually does and I think I stepped on her paw. She made the saddest little meow and then ran away and hid. I got her out of her hiding place and saw that she wouldn't put any pressure on her paw. It just hangs there. She lets me touch it and move it around, but she won't step on it. I feel so terrible, to the point of crying. What should I do? Take her to the vet?
Just some background. My husband and I are cat-sitting this cat for a friend whose daughter is too young to handle her. I guess when they had her, my co-worker's daughter stepped on the same paw and Mooshi (the cat) limped around for two days. So, this is the 2nd time this has happened. What do you think?

Awww, what a cutie pie! :D
I say keep an eye on her & see if she goes back to walking on her paw by tomorrow. Probably she will, in which cas she'll be fine. But if she's still limping around & avoiding putting any weight on her paw after a day or two, then you might want to call a vet to get some advice.
Hopefully she'll be okay! I've stepped on my kitties' paws before & usually they recover just fine in a day or so. Although one of my cats (who has been stepped on more than once over the years) is now extra jumpy around our feet & runs away anytime we start walking too close to her! :p

Sazoo - Isn't she cute? She's such a sweet little kitten, too, which makes me feel even worse! I didn't want to leave her this morning because she seemed so sad.
I'll keep an eye on it. It just worries me because it's happened before. I don't want there to be something wrong and for us to not know, ya know? Let's hope she's her old, playful self when I get home tonight.
Thanks for your advice!

Thanks for your concern... she's still limping but not as bad. She'll put pressure on her paw and wants to play, but I keep telling her, "you're hurt, you can't play." She's not too happy about that ;)
She needs a vaccine anyway, so I'm going to take her in and ask them about her paw while I'm there. I'll let ya know what they say. Just for fun, here's another picture:

Also, does anybody have any good ideas for getting a long haired cat to like being brushed? I recently had to cut several chunks out of Reggie because he was matted (and he now looks, uh, pretty ugly and scraggly). I've tried several different brushes and combs, and he is less than thrilled with all of them. Usually tries to bite it or bat at it with his paw and then run away. It's not like I'm pulling on his fur or anything, because i can comb him where there aren't any tangles/mats and he still hates it. (Most the time I can't even touch him with the comb.) Right now, i've just been sneaking up on him when he's sleeping and too tired to mind, but he always wakes up and fights it a few minutes later.

Whenever I find matts in Joule I tell her that we need to tango. She hates to be brushed so I have to basicly lock the two of us in a room where she can't run to far or hide (like the bathroom) and just chase her around and dodge her bats and bites. Now she will let we work out some matts with my fingers, it's taken a long time for this and she growls and gets pissed and I can only do one or two at a time. Keep at it on a regular basis and he will get better.

Brush a little. Give a treat. Repeat a zillion times. They may not learn to like it, but they'll learn that if they tolerate it, they get fed.

My cats don't necessarily dislike being brushed, but they don't ever want to sit or stand in one place to let me do it. One of them constantly tries to bite or rub her cheeks on the brush bristles.
The way I get them to semi-cooperate is I hold a comb in one hand for them to chew on/rub their cheeks on & then while they're distracted with that I brus them with the brush in my other hand. I do still have to chase them around the room a bit because they still sometimes won't sit still, but the comb/brush combo does seem to help.

I don't have an answer for you really. My cat, Seymour, hates being brushed, and the only way I can get him to let me do it is if I trick him with an extra brush. Basically I use one brush to groom him and put the other in front of him so that he can bite it. He's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, so he believes that the brush in front of his face is the offending one -- at least for a while, anyway.
That's not a fun routine. What I've started doing in recent years is taking him to be clipped. He basically gets a lion cut once a year. That keeps him from matting up and it takes about a year for his fur to get full enough to start matting again. This method has really been a great solution for me.

TracieB - I know! That's one of the reasons I went back into my old pics... Mooshie reminded me of Jade! She was a goofy looking thing. So skinny. But she was such a character that everyone loved her, even my Dad who *pretends* to hate cats. (If he doesn't know you're looking, he coos over my Stepmom's cat. It's pathetic ;) )

Ok, cat moms, a little help, please?
My 7 year old Molly has suddenly developed a new habit- she has decided the door frames of my apartment are actually, in fact, the world's greatest scratching posts ever. Which is really unfortunate, because this will end up being the first time either of mine has done actual damage to an apartment. Other than a spray bottle, what can I do?

Does she have a good scratching post? I get the kind that has rope wrapped around the pole (my cats seem to like it, plus I think it helps to prevent them from associating scratching on a carpet-covered post with the carpet on the floor). I also get really tall ones so the cats can reach up & stretch while they're scratching.
If you have a scratching post but she isn't using it, maybe you can lure her to it by putting some treats or catnip on/around the post, or giving her treats as a reward when she uses it?
Just some thoughts...good luck, & let us know how it goes!

She hates those sisal rope scratching posts. Refuses to use them. I do have one of those corrugated cardboard scratch boxes, and she will use that. Or at least, she used to. I may have to invest in some double sided tape. she can be such a snot sometimes. Got all pissed off last night because I made her stop licking the pan I had made pancakes in. Meanwhile, Max just snoozes through it all.

One of my cats peels off the double-sided tape. It's even the super-adhesive kind. He's such a pisser. He knows to go for the corners then he uses his teeth. We're basically resigned to buying out landlord a new couch or getting this one re-upholstered (but it's a total POS anyway).
They have carpet posts too.

Max loves his rope scratch post, he uses multiple times daily. It's the best purchase I made for him so far. It helps him stay away from the couch and the carpet. He does still claw things but not quite as much. He's still a kitten so I expect him to be crazy for a while, lol.
Does anyone elses kitty get bursts of energy during the day. Max will all of sudden be lazy and and sleeping and then jump up and dart around the house for like 20 minutes for no reason. He'll run from room to room and pounce on things, and throw his toys around and then he'll lay down and go to sleep, lol. Sometimes he'll get so hyper he'll attack my feet when I'm walking around, haha. He's so cute I love him to death.
Yesterday DH and I went to the SPCA and looked at the kitties, they had this cutie I wanted to adopt sooooo bad but DH wouldn't let me :(
Here she is http://www.petfinder.com/fotos/FL76/FL76.5240566-1-pn.jpg Now how cute is she. I think her and Max would love each other. She's only like 6 weeks old and Max will be 8 months on November 1st. DH won't let us have another though :( Poo on him, lol

Man why did you go to the ASPCA? That's just torture! FH has a cousin who volunteers at a shelter and she wants me to volunteer there too but I would always be heartbroken. She has liek 20 cats at her house bc it's a kill-shelter and she doesn't want any of them killed (even when they're sick) so she brings them home and keeps them until she can find a new home for them.
I don't really know what my cats do during the day since we aren't home. I think they sleep all.day.long. I was home last week sick and they basically didn't do anything but sleep. Now that winter is upon us, Casanova stays asleep even when I leave the house. He just refuses to get up and stays in bed under the covers. But every now and then at night they'll get those spats of energy you are talking about. It's pretty bad when one gets that way and the other doesn't bc the energetic one will torment the other until a fight ensues.

Oooh, YAY! Kitty Mommies!
Let me go find my pics ...
First, let me say that I kind of did a "holiday" theme for kittens. Naming them for the holiday closest to when I got them. I'm a dork, I know. Anyway ...
This is Noelle (for Christmas, of course). She is now 1-1/2 yrs old ... we have had her for 11 months.

This is Hallie (for Halloween). She is 11 weeks old, and we have had her for about 6 weeks. She was found under a bush. Her eyes just turned green and she just started using the big-girl litterbox.

Actually, she's had a growth spurt since those two pictures.
They had trouble getting along at first. Here's the first time they ever were busted being nice to each other ...

When we "talk" for our babies, we refer to the other baby as "sissy" because - of course - they are each other's sister. We always say, "where's sissy? What's your sissy doing?" Very sad.
Nicknames:
Noelle: Little Girl, Baby Girl, Sissy, Mommy's Girl
Hallie: Halle Berry, Squirm-a-Worm, Sweetheart, Sissy

Yup, my cat does this too! I find that sometimes she does this after she has visited her litter box (I guess it is sort of a victory run or something) other times there is no reason why all of the sudden she starts racing around the house.

tlew12778 I would be the same way if I worked/volunteered at the shelter, lol. I'm seriously trying to talk DH into another baby aka: kitty. He just rolls his eyes at me  lol. That's why I beg him into going occassionally that way we'll see a cutie and he'll feel bad for it and we can bring him/her home. Thats what happened when we adopted Max. We went in just to "looK" and we saw him and we both felt so sorry for him. He was 2 months old and all his littermates got adopted except him and we couldn't resist even though DH didn't want a cat at all he wanted a dog, lol. We filled out the application and picked him up the next morning, hehe. NOw we both love Max to pieces and couldn't imagine life w/o him. so I'm hoping we can get him a sister the same way, hahahaha I know I'm evil hehe ;)

Awwww. Thanks, guys! I'll have to tell her that the ladies love her pictures. Hehehehe.
Y'know ... for anyone else that has had to introduce kittens to their resident cats ...
How do you know if they are playing, or if they are being too aggressive? I can't tell by whatever noises the kitten might be making because - truly - Hallie (the kitten) is a little cry baby. She cries just because she doesn't want to be held. So, how can you tell if they are just playful, or being mean?
Also, our kitten (11 wks) is a real BITER! But, she only bites at ME. She does it during play, but it still hurts and I'm trying to get her to stop but can't figure out how. Grrr!

When I introduced Max to Molly, it was really hard to tell at first if they were playing or if she was really ticked. Eventually I realized that if she was chasing him, they were playing, if he was chasing her, it was usually time to break them up. But I think it really depends on the cats involved.
I'd had Max about three days (stashed in the bathroom with the door shut), and I would let him out for a bit for them to get used to each other, then lock him back up when Molly got pissy. So that third day, she got pissy, and I picked him up and put him back in the bathroom. Next thing I know, she's walking through the room (I had a studio apt.), swinging her head back and forth....eventually I realized she was looking for him. After that, they were fine!
The shelter I got Max from, the SPCA in San Francisco was such a palace, I almost felt guilty taking him home! (Which could explain why I went three times with the intent of getting Molly a baby brother or sister before I finally brought one home.)

You have to put a stop to this now. My cat was a play biter when she was a kitten and it was so cute. Everyone would play rough with her all the time cause she was so funny. But now she bites ALL THE TIME! If you go to pet her and she's not in the mood she'll bite you, if she doesn't know someone all that well she'll bite you. It's actually quite embarrassing. I'm working with her on it and actually she doesn't bite me anymore but she bites DH all the time. I do a couple of things to stop her. At first if she went to bite me I put my finger on her nose (She hated it) After a few times she stoped. But she has learned to bite and dodge my finger (what can I say she's a smart one) so now if she bites me I let her, I don't pull my finger away, actually I put my finger in her mouth and tickle the roof of her mouth right behind her teeth. It's taken a long time but I've pretty much broken her from biting me, I just need to figure out how to stop her from biting everyone else.

Max bites when he's rough playing but doesn't to be mean. But usually when he bites I pull my hand away so he realizes that I'm not playing back with him so he only does it on occassion. But I'm going to try the tickle of the mouth thing, lol good idea!!!

I've had the problem too. It really does depend on your particular cats, I think. For me, I know when Pepper starts growling or hissing that she is *not* playing anymore. Ginger, however (younger cat) doesn't ever hiss or growl. Yet she is a cry baby just like it sounds like your Hallie is, so it's hard to know when she's playing vs. fighting. Generally if I hear her cry & I look over & see that Pepper has her pinned down on the floor, I intervene & break them up.
I will say though, that when Ginger was a tiny kitten I intervened in their play/fight sessions more often because I wasn't sure she could defend herself against big kitty Pepper. Pepper really did NOT like Ginger when I first brought her home, so I had to keep a much closer eye on them back then than I do now.
Also, our kitten (11 wks) is a real BITER! But, she only bites at ME. She does it during play, but it still hurts and I'm trying to get her to stop but can't figure out how. Grrr!
Pepper is a biter too & I've tried for years to get her to stop, but it hasn't really worked. She mostly bites me (more than other people - thankfully), & usually it's when I'm petting her or playing with her. I don't know why...I guess she gets tired of it or something, because all of the sudden she starts lunging at my hand trying to bite me! I've tried bopping her on the nose & telling her "NO!" & stopping the playing/petting so that she'll learn that biting is bad, but that has not really worked. Lately I've started shoving my hand farther into her mouth (rather than pulling it away) because then she can't really close her mouth around my hand & ends up trying to pull away herself. ;) This stops the immediate biting efforts, but I don't think it's really teaching her not to try it again in the future.
The other thing is that she bites HARD! Ginger has more of a playful light bite, but Pepper would draw blood if you let her, sometimes.

We have 1 cat named Neko. She is the love our of lives. We talk about her as if she was a child. She is "my" official first animal. When I moved out on my own, I decided that I wanted a cat. Everyone told me that they were very expensive so I saved and saved. I had my heart set on a black & white cat. So I went to the local shelter and they didn't have any black & white kitties, so I left. After a couple of days, I told my parents that I was going to go back and get the gray tiger that was there. Before I could go back and get him, my mom showed up at the store I worked at with this little tiny black & white puff ball. My parents decided to adopted her for me. It was love at first sight. My boss at the time thought that Nekowas a good name, so that is what I named her.
Here she is when I first got her:

Neko is a cutie! I like the black spot on the tip of her nose. :) Don't you hate it when you find a great toy that your cat loves, but then when it's time to replace it you can't find another one to save your life? Or possibly worse is finding the same toy, buying a new one, & then finding out that your cat doesn't like the replacement toy as much as the original one & won't play with it.

My cat Pepper used to play fetch with me with her little spongy balls, but ever since I brought Ginger home from the shelter Pepper doesn't like to play fetch very much anymore. :( I think Ginger intervenes & tries to take over the game too much so Pepper just gives up.
But I remember about 4 years ago when she'd bring me a ball when I was doing my hair in the bathroom each morning, & I'd kick it across the hall into the bedroom & under the bed. She'd run & get it & bring it right back...over & over & over again, until I had to leave for work! :) I'd never seen a cat play fetch before that, but it's neat to know that other people have cats with this dog-type behavior too. ;)

Waving HI to Tracie and Kelly! :D Trace - Mooshi is so cute. Will you have a hard time giving her back? What is with the scratching and biting ... Hallie is the same way - she will only do it to ME!
OMG ... I love the political catnip toys. I wonder if either of my two would like them. My older "baby" only likes balls ... and at that, only a particular hard plastic ball (and it can't have any of the noisemakers in it) ... or ribbons. The younger girl plays with a lot of stuff.

*sigh* I am also guilty of not only allowing, but teaching Jade to bite. 99% of the time it's playful nips - and only with people she knows (or if toes are moving under the covers). But every now and then she gets snarky and she attacks. You can always tell because her head pulls back and her ears go flat. I've begun to get her out of the habbit by not playing if she bites and sqirting her if she does. The squirt bottle is quite effective with her. Usually I just have to show her the bottle and she stops.

I love seeing all the kitties! I don't think there is anything better than a cat!! I don't know what I would do without mine.
This is my sweet love CISCO. She's 8 years old and I love her more than anything!! I have had her since she was about 5 weeks old. I adopted her through the Luv-A-Pet/humane society adoption through PetSmart stores.

Jnettie~OMG we are having that problem with Bailey, the scratching and biting. But mainly its the biting. The worst part is he is starting to bite harder like he's trying to draw blood. Water squirting does work on this kitten, I've even tried light spanking but I don't want to hit him hard cause he's my baby...*laughs*....hubby says he's spoiled. Its got to the point where you can't move any body part cause he'll attack. OH!! and another habit he's just inherited is that he's starting to sleep in the middle of the night at my feet and when I move he starts attacking my feet and he bites hard. Today infact I was just sitting on the recliner and he was running around hyper and would just jump on me and start biting my arm really hard even if I was just there not moving. I would push him off and he'd come back up and again start biting. I don't know what to do.

tefoil: your babies are too cute. You have great pictures of them also!!
Yay it's Saturday! I'm sitting here as Max is playing w/my toes, lol. He's so cute! So DH and I went to the SPCA on Wednesday and I posted about how I fell in love with that little black kitty. I wanan go back and get her so bad! But DH won't have it. *sigh* ohwell. Here is a funny picture of Max the other day when I gave him a bath.
Max after a bath
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5ce08b3127cce94b387845b6000000016108ActGbNi2aNP
as you can see he wasn't too happy about this
He FREAKS when we give him baths, but he doesn't clean himself that well so I feel lik eI need to bathe him about once a month b/c he gets stinky sometimes.
Also, what can I do about bad kitty breath. Max's breath is AWFUL! If he yawns in your face I about pass out it stinks so bad. I've tried the kitty treats that are for tarter control and the food also but ti doesn't help at all. What else can I do??? Have a great weekend ladies!!!

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice. My Tucker has pretty bad breath, too. Have you taken him to the vet to have his teeth professionally cleaned lately? It's something you should do about once a year, and it will probably help some.
Here's a photo of Tucker sharing his stinky breath with the world:

These are my ladies. Britney is the calico, she is almost 4. Ebony is the black cat, she will be 3 in March. My husband and I adopted them both. Britney is very tempermental. She only associates with her parents. Ebony is just like a dog. She LOVES to fetch her mice. I swear, we throw nonstop. :D

Jnettie~OMG we are having that problem with Bailey, the scratching and biting. But mainly its the biting. The worst part is he is starting to bite harder like he's trying to draw blood.
How old is Bailey? Jade used to bite more when she was little. Now she bites much less. Do you have another cat? I think Jade bites a lot because she was an only kitty when a kitten and I've heard that they learn how not to bite hard from play when the other cat bites them back! You also have to be careful of how physical you get with discplining kitties because they don't respond well to it and tend to become skiddish.
One of the things I would do was always have toys in my pockets or balls of paper in my pocket to throw and distract her if she was attacking my feet too much. I also would sometimes lock her in the bedroom for a few minutes to cool down if I was doing something that I really needed her not to attack me (like when I am trying to cut fabric). About 5 minutes would settle her down.
Now that Jade is 3, she doesn't bite nearly as often. And if she gets too agressive I just stop playing with her and say "no".
Oh, and I noticed that the more I play the games she likes to play, the less likely she is to agressively bite me. I get toys on strings (she LOVES the mouse on a fishing reel!), balls to roll, etc. She also loves a pouncing game we do. I'll crouch around a corner from her and peak out every few second, stick out my hand, or drum my fingers on the floor as she slowly crawls closer and closer. Then she'll jump around the corner, pounce on me (no bites!), the run back around the corner to start the game again! It really is very very funny. Probably funny to watch, too.
And, DH says I spoil Jade, too.
Gee, I feel like I don't talk about Sissy much. She's just one of those sleeper kitties. I swear, sometimes that cat has stayed in the same spot all day! But Sissy was playing with a ball yesterday!

Had to share my latest funny kitty picture.
Ginger found a new sleeping spot...my DH's underwear/sock drawer! He left the drawer slightly open this morning, so she dug out some of the underwear & socks & let them fall onto the floor, then once she'd made enough room for herself she crawled in there to take a nap! :D

OMG! So cute! Jade will do the same thing! Twice I've closed drawers on her while she was sleeping inside...later I'd hear this pathetic meowing or see a little paw sticking out of a crack in the drawer!

Too funny! :) This is the first time I've seen Ginger do this - maybe because we usually keep the dresser drawers closed. She does, however, know how to pull the cupboard door open under the sink in the bathroom. It's annoying, because she pulls at it
