I think they would still be happily married if Jessica would just fire her manager, and learn to make her own decisions. I think that they were really happy in the beginning and had good intentions.

Jessica Simpson plans to spend her first Christmas since splitting from husband Nick Lachey with her parents and sister in Hawaii, PEOPLE has learned.

As for how she's faring after filing for divorce on Friday, "She's doing okay," a source close to Simpson tells PEOPLE. "She is emotional, and as upsetting as this is, she knows she made the right decision."

Though the couple announced their split last month after three years of marriage, the source says that Simpson and Lachey got together on Friday for a short time. "He came over to her parent's house. They spent a little time together and they said their goodbyes."

In other words, don't expect a reconciliation. "The fact that she filed tells you that it's going to be over. It wasn't something she took lightly," the source says. "Friday was an emotional day. As far as people saying it's going to get nasty, if it were, I don't think they would spend an hour and a half together like they did."

Since their split, Simpson has been staying at her parents' house in L.A. while Lachey remains at the couple's Calabasas, Calif., home.

Meanwhile, Lachey has hired Los Angeles-based attorney Laura Wasser. "He was hoping for the best, but as time went by, he was prepared for what became inevitable," a source close to him tells PEOPLE.

I'm not one to particularly care about celebrity marriages, since celebrity marriages are about as real as the latest CG technology can make them seem. But when 71% of People magazine readers and 76% of Star magazine readers say that the break up of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey was all her fault, well, you've got to take some pleasure in that.

Of course, not content to let public opinion run it's course, the Simpson camp is said to be gearing up for a massive PR offensive, says the New York Daily News.

Lowdown hears that Simpson's PR man, Rob Shuter at Dan Klores Communications (which also reps the Daily News), has been calling nearly every gossip reporter in town with tips about Nick - alleging everything from greediness to lechery.

Reports a Lowdown spy: "Rob's been shopping around stories that Nick was messing around, and has been trying to take any woman that was in the same room with Nick and passing that off as a torrid affair. Now he's pushing that A.J. manager story. It's all bull."

And if that wasn't enough to give you a taste for celebrity feuding, there are also stories that Nick is trying to parlay his side of the story into a cash deal with OK! magazine.

Yesterday, a certain somebody apparently planted an item in a lesser gossip column [read Page Six] about Nick shamelessly selling his side of the story to OK! magazine for $300,000 - an item that coincidentally just so happened to tout another Klores client, the New York club Pacha.

To which OK! magazine resonded:

"We have not done a deal for Nick Lachey's story. We have no deal nor are we looking to do a deal for Nick's story."

Sounds like the tabs are just getting started on this one. But don't let that innocent smile fool you. This girl is a stone cold killer.

Jessica Simpson's lawyers filed court papers Wednesday requesting a new judge in her divorce from Nick Lachey, claiming the current judge in her case could be "prejudiced" against her or her attorney, TV's Extra reports.

Simpson attorney Lance Spiegel filed the papers, which say she "cannot have a fair or impartial trial" with Judge Michael P. Linfield presiding.

As for why Simpson's camp made the request, a source close to the pop star tells PEOPLE: "It's a legal technicality. It is important to note this is coming from her attorney, not her."

Another source tells PEOPLE the request is merely a formality, as Simpson and Lachey are in talks to have a private judge take over the case. "The goal is to have a private judge because both sides want this to be amicable and private," the source said.

Simpson filed for divorce Dec. 16 in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." She also requested that no spousal support be awarded and that her surname be officially changed back to Simpson.

Simpson and Lachey met in 1998 while she was pursuing a singing career and Lachey was a member of 98 Degrees. The couple married in 2002, and their fame skyrocketed with the debut of the MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which chronicled their first year of marriage.

With the announcement of their divorce last week, the couple issued a statement that said their decision to split was "the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other."

Haile Berry was a great actress in her Bond film. And she was hot. If I have to hear about something bouncing "into my undercarriage" again, I'm going to scream. Her acting is corny as heck. But put her in a bikini, and you'll have so many 20-something males with hard-ons and willing to drop way too much money seeing it over and over again.

That was my first question Camdynlyn after seeing the papers. Considering her/her grandmother tried to hock their house on eBay as the home JS spent a lot of time growing up in, I wouldn't be suprised if she goes the eBay route for her ring. I watched religiously and even have all seasons and I have to say that it was like this when it aired. The really really sad one is after her tour when he takes her to the hotel they stayed at when they got married and the church :( and then after that the recap :( :( I think I even shed a tear or two.

I completely disagree. There's a big tradition of Bond Girls being eye candy. It's rare for a Bond Girl to be an integral part of the plot, and when that is the case, there's the one Bond Girl Who Can Act and several of the Eye Candy variety.

True, but it being California (Community Property State) dosen't that mean everything is split half. Because legally they are still husband and wife. I am sure it does depend on if Nick is fighting for it and since he is not it is not that big of a deal right?

The focus shifted off 9/11 where some were concerned and back on poor Jessica. Then she writes on her old MB that she NEVER called him her boyfriend she said BEST FRIEND and US Weekly decided to change her words to boyfriend.

Nick believing Joe would help agreed along with some pressure from Universal records to agree to the 'engagement' and in case you all forgot, Jessica spent MONTHS hiding her left hand and the ring was never seen. People were starting to question whether the engagement was real and then in May at the Kentucky Derby she started flashing it around to any and everyone. That satisfied people.
Then came the date for the wedding, Late Oct, why, the original release date for In This Skin was DEC 2002, Joe was convinced the wedding would sell her album but when it got delayed before the wedding, Joe convinced Jessica NOT to sign a primp. Wink
That was because he was under the impression if she and Nick divorced without one she'd be able to take Nick for all he was worth entering the marriage which was about the same amount of money she owed Sony.
But what Joe didn't count on was after the wedding NO ONE really gave a damn about Jessica. Most didn't even believe they got married so he released a picture in the wee hours of the 27th JUST to prove it took place. The whole thing was staged and a set up and illegal because it was entered into to DEFRAUD everyone. JUST to sell. Evil or Very Mad
Then Newlyweds came up, Jessica was even further in debt to Sony and Joe wanted her to make money to pay them back. Once again he convinced Nick it'd help HIS career too and since he too had an album coming out, he agreed. But the first season didn't help. It HURT Jessica's career as she was the laughing stock of Hollywood and Nick got sympathy for being married to a spoiled immature brat.
Her sales for In This Skin SUCKED to say the least, she sold LESS than Irresistible and Sony WAS within minutes of dropping her, with her still being 3 million in debt to them. But he heard the buzz on this site, that the fans WANTED Newlyweds footage; so Joe gave them what they wanted.
The ONLY WAY to get footage back then was on the reissue of In This Skin along with extras, including scenes from the wedding, recording Angels, Recording TMBA, etc. She sold, not on her talent as a singer, but because her being a stupid idiot.
Joe continued to market her as an idiot; it’s why season 2 became so forced with her stupid act. It went from being real to being an-over-the-top act and less believable. Well, Joe grew greedy; he wouldn't make money off Nick because contrary to reports in the rags he was NEVER Nick's manager so why promote Nick? Crying or Very sad
Joe started being manipulating and controlling, in order to get Jessica a huge fortune; but he still had to lie about how much money she made in 2004, (all to make her seem more sought after than she ever truly was). That's why this “marriage” lasted as long as it did.
After the first 30 episodes of Newlyweds ended, it was on MTV's site that there were no more episodes, that it was done. They went to the VMAs and the marriage problems started, why because they needed it to be a believable end since they were to break up back in 2004. BUT Joe wanted more money, and he got MTV to pick up the final option; but they dragged out giving Nick and Jessica an answer. Nick and Jessica said they wanted it over, but that they could be talked into ONE FINAL season. And they were forced into it because of contractual obligations.
Since the contract stated as long as Newlyweds was filming or airing, they were NOT allowed to get divorced; so they were stuck until March 2005. Rolling Eyes
So I started saying they'd announce a divorce as early as April 2005. But then ABC wanted another variety show. Joe needed something to improve Jessica's image because she was being seen as a slut and a drunk. He suggested to ABC that they go to Iraq and entertain the troops as a variety show special. This would help her image and ABC assumed it'd help ratings; but because so many people saw the final season of Newlyweds and thought they were over, many refused to watch the variety show. It got the least amount of ratings; but because of the special, they were once again contracted to remain married till the show aired. In order for the separation not look staged, they agreed it'd be announced Memorial Day Weekend.
Joe wanted it seen that Jess dumped Nick ‘cause it'd be better for her image; but being the lazy person she is, she wanted things over and done with. She shopped the story around too early. Wink
E-Online was the first to agree to print it, but they agreed to wait till first thing Monday morning, Memorial Day, because there'd be less press. An idiot there at E-Online printed the story right after it was written.
Jessica, knowing Joe would be pissed off that she spoke too soon and would lose money by ABC, panicked and started threatening to sue to get the story removed; and the divorce announcement was delayed. US Weekly, who broke the story Oct 5th in their Oct 17th issue, was supposed to write that it was NO ONE’S fault and that it was a mutual decision because they grew apart. But because Joe sold Jessica to OK they were pissed off so they wrote the story TRASHING Jessica. Embarassed
Well, Joe couldn't have that to happen because Jessica had to come off as the good one while Nick was the one to come off as the cheating louse; so they could do the poor Jessica story and the fans would eat it up (so Joe thought). Once again, the separation was denied.
Nick and Jessica were sent off to Italy NOT for their anniversary, but to get out of the spotlight. Because US Weekly said it'd be announced BEFORE Nov 1, Joe had to make them look like lying fools so he made sure Nov 1 came and went and they were still married.
Jessica was not with Nick on his birthday because he didn't want her there. She flew into Cincinnati on the 10th and took them out to lunch; the press reported on it as they were told to by her people.
I’m not sure why the announcement came out on the 23rd; probably it was for the reason given (which was less press coverage). But who knows? Shocked

Jessica wants this “marriage” to be over and done with, in order for her to get on with her life. She stopped caring what her fans thought years ago; so she didn't care about filing for divorce 3 1/2 weeks later. Because Joe was greedy and didn't get Jessica to sign a primp she loses out BIG TIME.
Karma is finally paying them back because no matter WHAT Joe tries to do to improve Jessica's image, it’s not working. She's being blamed for the split, and she's still coming across as a bitch with fewer and fewer people feeling sorry for her.
Her lips weren't makeup; it was a cosmetic procedure to improve the pout. It’s all an act. She is not seriously upset, except maybe because the press is being cruel to her and she wants them to love and fawn over her once again.

Jessica's a damn good liar; she's had countless years of practice and her nonverbal acting skills are superb because people bought she was in love with Nick (which was all lies because she only knows how to love herself and her father). But yes he did scramble to get out of debt, its why he pushed MTV for them to do newlyweds and make him exec producer to cash in and to exploit the marriage.

I heard on the radio this morning that while Nick and Jessica where in the early stages of their problems, Nick hired a private eye to follow Jessica and take pictures of her when she was out on the town without him. It's a poker phrase. When you splash the pot you're throwing a lot of chips in messily (apparently real pros don't like it when you do this). I think the meaning of the phrase doesn't have anything to do with the messiness, just the adding of a lot of chips in a big showy way. So, to splash out means to throw a lot of money around in a big showy way...ya know, to show your soon to be ex that you don't need him and never have. :rolleyes:

cocopops - As far as I know, Hamilton County lists all real estate records regardless of who you are. Not sure what the law is. It comes in handy when you want to find out what someone paid for their house or where exactly they live.

Yep, he isn't the biggest of guys, that's for sure. I met him briefly in May and was surprised that he was smaller than I thought he would be. Maybe 5'8 at most (?) and thin.

You can't see it very well here, but if you look at this photo in the actual People magazine, you can see that the white shirt under her sweater is striped and looks almost identical to the one she wore in the morning after photos.
