It took me much longer than I'd like to admit to learn how to post pictures online. Maybe I can help walk you through it. Are your pictures on your computer or do you have them on a website like shutterfly.com?

Okay, I don't think this site will allow you to directly upload pictures from your computer into posts (probably a server space issue), so I suggest you open a shutterfly account. It's free and not too hard to use.

1) Go to www.shutterfly.com and open an account. Like I said, it's free because they are hoping you will order pictures from them.

2)Once you have the account and are logged in, go to the "add pictures" tab.

3)Choose the "make a new album" option and name your online album (Cats, for example ;) ).

4)You will then have a screen where you can browse through your computer to find the pictures. You can upload up to ten at a time.

Once they are uploaded, you will be able to see thumbnail images of the pictures you have uploaded.

5)Click on a picture to see the regular-sized picture. Right-click on the picture and select "properties."

6)About halfway down the box, there will be a line that says "Location" with a URL next to it. Copy the URL.

7)To post the picture here (and at any vBulletin site), put the URL inside of image tags, i.e. type [*img]your URL here [*/img], except without the *'s.

If you get stuck, let me know where and what you are seeing and I'll see if I can help. :)

Oh, and you *can* upload an avatar directly from your computer. This will only work if you have an image that is resized (I think 90 pixels by 90 pixels is the allowed size). If you have software to resize a picture, and can get one of the appropriate size, let me know and I can walk you through getting it as your avatar. If you don't know how to resize a picture, then you should upload the picture through shutterfly (or another site if you have another one you use), post the picture in the avatar thread, and someone with the appropriate software will resize it for you. :)

After I had been on my boyfriend Rob for forever to get me a dog he surpised me on Christmas with a Black Lab Puppy....we named her Duchess. Rob researched breeders for over 3 months without me even knowing! He finally decided on one in Elmira, NY....Duchess is so spoiled but we love her to death. She is already almost 60 pounds and she's 7 months old now.

Here is Duchess at 7 weeks when we got her from the breeder:

I think there may be a way to attach the pictures without going through shutterfly. I'm not sure how, though since I don't see a way to add attachments.

You might want to ask the poster who started this thread http://www.clevercouples.com/showthread.php?t=151 if you want to skip opening a shutterfly account. :)

I grew up with Westies and Norfolk Terriers (20 lbs. max, no shedding) so adjusting to 70+lb. of very hairy, shedding dog meat has been a challenge (our first purchase as a married couple was the latest Dyson vaccuum.) He is an absolute clown though... and so much fun to go snowshoeing with.

ee_chick...Are those Boxers? They are so cute! BTW- you named your furbabies after Alias characters didn't you! ;)

sarahh - Yup, those are my Boxer babies. I've been a Boxer lover since I was born. My first friend was my oh-so-patient Boxer. And yeah, they're named after Alias characters. From way back in the first season when they were partners. I figured it was appropriate :D

That's really interesting, Bella is getting lighter! According to my research, pointed cats (Siamese, Himalayans, Birmans, Ragdolls, Snowshoes, etc.) are all temperature sensitive. The points grow in darker when it's cool and lighter when it's hot. Bella likes to snooze in the sun, and her face has a lot of light hairs now. In the winter she will probably get darker points again. If they are getting darker, your home might be cooler than their old enviroment.

Tara-- I think you're right Sadie looks a lot bigger. She weighs about 75 pounds. It looks like Freddy looked more like husky with the size of a beagle and Sadie looks like a beagle with the size of a husky! She's such a lover though. She may knock you down but only to lick you to death! :p
Freddy looks so cute. Sorry to hear he got hit by a car. We had a puppy get hit by a car last year but unfortunately she wasn't as lucky as Freddy. She was paralyzed and had to be put down. Hardest thing I've ever done. :(

Ours are strictly indoor cats. They always have been and so our situation is different than yours. I used to worry that one of them (the one in my avatar) wanted to go outside and so I started to feel guilty. Like all cats, she would stare out the window, but she did it so much more than her sister, I was worried she wished she was allowed to go outside. So, one day, I carried her out to the mailbox with me. There was nobody around, no dogs, nothing. By the time we got back to the door, she was struggling to leap inside the house. The poor things was terrified. Due to that experience, I now know that while she enjoys watching what is happening outside, she wants to be safely indoors. Whew. I don't know what I would have done if she had enjoyed being out there.

Neko is absolutely beautiful, btw. :)

Cat Owners ~ Do you let your cats go outside or are they strictly indoor cats? Just curious! :)
Our 3 furbabies are strictly indoors, unless you count the screened-in lanai as outside. :) The main reason for this is we live off a semi-busy street and Junueu, our white cat, is deaf so he definitely cannot go outside. I like to treat all 3 equal (lol! yes, they are like children to me) so if one can't go out then none of them can go out.

Here are the boys!

What kind of build does Luna have? She looks like our Dexter. We know that Dexter is part GS but we aren't really sure what else he has in him. Dex has broad shoulders and narrow hips with long, lean legs. Here are some pics. They are a few months old but you can get the idea.

chefker - I have heard that beagles bark a lot, I guess I got lucky! Rudy does the occasional howl but they aren't big barkers. He loves bassetts though, I think he can sense that they are long lost family. He follows them all around the dog park.

MrsWilson - I love my beagles. They are such fun and silly dogs. They keep me on my toes and keep me laughing. They are the first dogs I've owned and I love them. I love seeing my dogs interact with other beagles, they know they have a bond. They are such cute puppies too! :D

We adopted our third dog today! I'm so excited!

Here's Alaska:

http://www.petfinder.com/fotos/TX453/TX453.4571194-2-pn.jpg

We also have an American Eskimo and a Shepherd/Chow/Rottweiler mix.

I'm glad I have a 4 day weekend coming up from work so I can see how they all get along all day. After a half hour or so of adjustment this evening, they seem to be fine but we'll take it slow.

Can I ask you a couple of questions about rottweilers?

DH and I are thinking of adopting a rottie from a local rescue organization that specializes in re-homing rotties. They are all temperment tested and come from foster homes.

Have your rotties shown any signs of dog aggression? Do they like to play with other dogs?

Are they good with kids?

Do they stay with you when you're out and about? Can you let them off leash without them running away?

When we got Miles, our Australian Shepherd, his breeder also raised rottweilers. They were the sweetest dogs ever - we almost went home with a rottie instead of an Aussie (but so glad we picked Miles). Ever since, we've thought about a rottie as a possible second dog. And finding this rescue in the area has made me think about it even more. :)

Our male has no dog aggression. We've known him since he was 3 days old and we brought him home when he was 8 weeks old. He was an only child for three years so he is more of a people dog than a dog dog. He likes to be with people and play with people. He'll play with other dogs, but it's on his terms. When he was a puppy, he was attacked by an untrained, off-leash, snappy, dog-aggressive mini poodle so he's a bit hesitant around other animals. However, there are a select few dogs that he's comfortable with. Our female is a rescue and well, she's different. We know nothing of her history and she's not as dog friendly. She plays with him and our friend's Boxer but that's all the contact she's had. She is prone to bark and growl at any other dog that is near her simply because she doesn't know them. We've only had her a couple of months so we're still working with her. She's 4 and not very open to learning. She's set in her ways but we've made some progress with her. She didn't come from a rescue organization, she came from a local shelter.

Both are very good with kids. My nephew and niece have played with him since he was a puppy. At times he doesn't know his own size but he loves kids. But it's all in the training of the individual dog.

As for them staying with us, yes, they were trained that way. He hardly leaves our side unless we let him. It's all in the training. We spend a lot of time in rural areas and he'll explore but he's always checking back in with us so we know where he is and he knows where we are. She is still a work in progress but she's done well.

Each Rottweiler is different but the rescues that I work with only take in and adopt out the best of the breeds. They are temperment tested, they are usually trained and are good dogs. They won't adopt out any aggressive Rotties (dog aggressive or people aggressive). Each dog is different when it comes to likes too. The sire of our male is not a fan of children under the age of 14. It's how he was raised. He hates cats, she tolerates them. The rescues I work with screen potential potential families, do reference checks, home checks and help pick out the right Rottweiler for you. They will also continue to check with you.

I recommend that you read a few of the books that I've listed so that you can get an understanding of the breed:
Rottweilers: Everything About Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, Behavior, and Training (Complete Pet Owner's Manual) by Kerry V. Kern, Michele Earle-BridgesThe Ultimate Rottweiler, Second Edition by Andrew H. Brace

They are powerful, strong-willed dogs that take a heavy hand when it comes to training and owning them. They aren't just for everyone (and that's one of the reasons the breed suffered in the 90s) and it does take some dedication. However, they are very sweet-natured, playful, goofy, highly intelligent and can be territorial too.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

What kind of build does Luna have? She looks like our Dexter.

Hey Kathy!

Luna has that same type of build! She's REALLY athletic - I dunno, can you say that about dogs??? She has LOADS of energy. I always call her a "super model" because her feet are kind of small and she has "legs up to here"! lol She has a BIG chest, long neck, and a SUPER skinny "waist"! Here are some body shots:

On the trail with dad:
http://images.snapfish.com/344348%3A%3B23232%7Ffp58%3Dot%3E2334%3D48%3A%3D425 %3DXROQDF%3E2323943748388ot1lsi

Does that give you a better idea? Does your pooch have any black on his tongue? If so, that's chow (or sharpei, I believe). Also, a groomer once asked me if she was part greyhound..? She said she used to raise them and Luna sort of had some characteristics - I don't see 'em - I thought the lady was crazy. lol

Anyway, hope that helped!

Kelli~

Oh my goodness!!! They could be twins! Dex has that same build. Muscular chest, narrow waist and hips with long skinny legs. Dexter's feet are pretty big, though. He may not have grown into them yet, though he is over a year old now. Not an ounce of fat on that boy either, so he is 55 lbs. of pure muscle. I don't see as much black on his tongue as Luna's--his is pretty much pink with a tiny dark area in the center. You should have seen me trying to get him to stick his tongue out. I kept telling him to say "Ahh" while I stuck my tongue out. He probably thinks I am crazy.

Thanks for those other pics. Wow, it really is amazing how much they look alike.

Here's our boy, Scrappy:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3d905b3127cce9e19d8d8307800000016108EbNHDRu5Zk

We think he's some sort of Jack Russell, wire-haired terrier, and possibly daschund mix. He is such a lapdog, incredibly affectionate and can sit on my lap, asleep, for hours.

We adopted him from a local rescue group 3 years ago, who in turn had picked him up from an overcrowded Fresno (a city in Central CA) animal shelter. He was a scrawny little boy, 1/2 of his current weight, with ribs sticking out and 3 huge new white scars on his back (each close to the size of his paw!) after having been savagely attacked by a pug at the shelter. Sadly, the scars never healed enough to grow hair/fur again, but they have darkened to a black color and are hidden by the surrounding hair that's grown long.

He was very skittish and didn't bark for over 3 months. In fact, the rescue group volunteer told us she had forgotten about him and left him in his crate all day at the open house Saturday because he was so quiet. That was our luck, as he didn't get adopted that day and was still on the website when we saw him Sunday morning. I immediately e-mailed them, and his foster mom agreed to meet us on that same day. It was love at first nuzzle, as he initially ignored us to patrol the room, but then came up to my lap and nuzzled his head against my thigh as I sat Indian style on the ground.

I even ordered a hardbound photo book of him (from some site that had advertised on either Shutterfly or that old site) but our computer's old harddrive crashed so I don't have any of those digital photo files anymore. There are some adorable ones of him sleeping while nestled in our down comforter, our old bean bag, on the landing of the staircase, on the couch...yes he loves to sleep. The 2 above are from the 2 years ago, just a few months after we adopted him.

I should stop before this turns into a novel.... :D

wazzugirl and MrsWilson do you have problems with your Beagle's weight gain? Baylee will eat anything in front of her and thinks she's starving all the time. In these pictures she's on the heavy side. She and I have since been on a strict diet - hers going better than mine!

My vet said Beagle's are big eaters so they are prone to weight gain, but I just wonder if part of that is me being a bad mom!

MrsWilson

cyd_96--We have not had a weight gain problem with Scout....yet. He is almost 9 months old. We are concerned because that is something we have seen and heard a lot. He has gotten out of the habit of begging for our food. We feed him once a day, according to the food (dry food only). He eats Science Diet for puppies until he is a year old. We will occationally give him a hot dog or something, but only as a treat. He went to 12 weeks of puppy classes and we used heathly/lean treats because he was getting so much of it. When I took him to the vet in May, he was 18 lbs, last week he was 22 lbs. How old is Baylee? Scout also has a friend across the street he runs around with on the 5 acreas of land. His friend is about 3 times as big, so Scout has to run to keep up. It gives him lots of exercise!

Everyone mistakes him for being a Rott because of his color. He may very well have a little bit of Rott in him that we may not know about. You can definitely see a lot of Shar Pei in him, though. He's got wrinkles all over the place. It's like, the cutest thing, ever. :)

Here is my first baby. This is Gabriel, Gabe, Gabey Wabey, Fatty McGee, Pumpkin Pie, whatever I feel like calling him. He's very sweet, and cuddly, though I think he may be a bit on the mentally challenged side.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/acire01/Gabecute2.jpg

Here is another in B&W, very artsy.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/acire01/gabebw1.jpg

This is my sister's baby, Damian. We got these guys at the same time, but they are from different litters. Actually Damian was a stray that someone found near the shelter, so they didn't know much about him. Where Gabe is the "stoner" of the group, Damian is the "crackhead." Very paranoid. He's bathing here and hates taking pictures.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/acire01/damianbath2.jpg

Here they are watching the rain, very early on in their lives with us. Such a cute picture.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/acire01/friendswatchinrain2.jpg

And this is my 2nd baby, Liberty Belle. She just turned a year old on July 4th. She's a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, though not a champion as she's too tall, her coat isn't thick/long enough, and one of her ears refuses to stand up straight. Poor thing, she's our little champion though! LOL.

Saw a few other Beagle lovers out there! Here's my love - Beagle Baylee

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d929b3127cce9291782bd3d900000015108QcN3DZuxcg

Here she is keeping watch over the neighborhood. As you can tell, she's very serious about her job.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d929b3127cce92928cc032ac00000016108QcN3DZuxcg

wazzugirl and MrsWilson do you have problems with your Beagle's weight gain? Baylee will eat anything in front of her and thinks she's starving all the time. In these pictures she's on the heavy side. She and I have since been on a strict diet - hers going better than mine!

My vet said Beagle's are big eaters so they are prone to weight gain, but I just wonder if part of that is me being a bad mom!
cyd 96 - Our little beagle is a tad on the pudgy side, she does tend to eat anything her nose leads her to, she is also quite the begger. I think we contribute to her bad diet though, her big brown eyes are just too much for us (ok, me!) to handle, and we will give in and give them people food. We only feed them once a day, its a dry food called Flint River Ranch.

Sigh -- I could never get sick of looking at pictures of cute furbabies :)

Here are mine:

Link aka Linky is a Samoyed we adopted about 1 year ago. He's very lazy, as can be seen here when he was drinking from the lake and got tired and decided to plop down in the lake and drink.

Koya is a Samoyed mix we adopted about 1.5 years ago. He likes to jump into the drivers seat whenever we leave him alone in the car.

We also have two chinchillas who are furry and cute too, but I can't find any pictures of them.

Cat Owners ~ Do you let your cats go outside or are they strictly indoor cats? Just curious! :)

Bella goes out on her harness only. I would never ever ever let a cat go outside unsupervised. The busy suburban areas have, of course, cars, but the more rural area we've moved to has a lot of animals that could hurt her--birds of prey, badgers, possums. I'm sure some areas of the country don't have to worry about predators, but here I see hawks and falcons circling the fields all the time, and I'm not taking any chances.

Our cats are strictly indoor cats. The only time they go outside is if one of us is holding them. We live too close to a main route and I'm afraid of them never coming back! Plus they stay cleaner this way.

My cats are strictly indoors. Two of them are declawed (got the cats from a friend, and he had them declawed, I could never do that to a cat), so they really have no business being outside. We found our other one before Christmas a couple of years ago, so we keep him inside to make sure he doesn't run away. He's gotten out a couple of times though, and he's willingly gone back in.

I can't pass up a chance to post my furbaby! She is so spoiled--we adopted her from a rescue a little over a year ago (she's ~4) and although we think she was well taken care of before she was turned over to the rescue, we still want every single one of her days to be wonderful and hope she never wants for anything! Brag about my girls? Well, if you insist... :D

This is Lily, getting comfortable on her "Oma Blanket". Oma was my grandmother-in-law (Oma is "Grandma" in German) and she was always making afghans (aka Oma Blankets) for everyone. The last Christmas she was with us, she gave our girls each a blanket she made for them. When I see them on their blankets, I like to think Oma is smiling down on them.

http://www.dedapper.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/normal_Kitties%20006.jpg

And this is Kali on my lap, enjoying a tummy rub. She just melts when we rub her tummy. For a skittish cat, she has no problem being quite vulnerable if it means a tummy rub!

http://www.dedapper.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/normal_Kitties%20009.jpg

As you can probably guess, "our girls" run the household. :D

ETA: And they are the inspiration for my username. ;)

Furbaby Update! -> My black lab Duchess is now 10 months old and a total sweetheart. We got her at 7 weeks from the breeder and she came to us almost completely housebroken. She been able to stay out in the house alone (without being baby gated in the bathroom) since she was three months old. She never barks or chews on anything but her toys and she *loves* to lay in the back yard and stretch out in the grass....

Just a few pictures:

I took this last night. we just got this couch last night so DH and Bull were just chillin on it.

ETA: Bull is a 7 month old Lab/German Sheppard mix. I had forgotten how hard this puppy stage is. he's really testing my patience with chewin things up. But to his advantage it helps me keep the house really clean as I don't leave things laying around for him to chew on. We had his mom and one night she got out of the fence and was hit by a car and died. So we have him and he looks just like she did.

Awww tashaw6! Sadie is gorgeous! Just look at that face! What kind of dog is she?

She's a sharpei. Her mother was a chinese sharpei (not too sure exact name...but short haired) and her father was a normal sharpei (i.e. long haired).

Don't you just want to pick her up and squish her she is so cute! That face just says, Take a pic of me!

I love seeing everyone's (fur)babies!

Here is Toby (Tobster, Toblerone, Monkey, Little Guy) right after we got him:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4da06b3127cce9a6922805f2800000016108IZsWjJsybQ

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d635b3127cce93d875664b4600000026108IZsWjJsybQ

And at Christmas last year (you can tell they are thrilled with this set-up):
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5dc25b3127cce9f896f2ed88500000026108IZsWjJsybQ

We adopted both, so no way of knowing if they are full basset but they have all the characteristics. Toby is almost 4 and Max is 3 1/2 (yes, he's younger and twice the size of Toby).

Actually all dogs have 'webbed' feet. It's not actually webbs. If you ever take your finger and rub it in between your dogs toes you'll notice that their is skin that connects each one, some dogs have lots of skin, some don't. I don't know that it's actually considered a web - but when they get in the water to swim to pressure of the water seperates their toes...lol.

Such cute puppies and kittens!!!

My pet doesnt have fur, she has scales. But I think that she's just as snuggley as most pets with fur. :) So I hope its alright that I add her to this thread.
This is Fighter (nicknamed Fifi). She's a green iguana, over 3 feet long, and probably between 5 and 8 years old. When adopted her 2 and a half years ago, she had an untreated bone infection in her hand and was given a 50% chance to live. She ended up needing to have her arm amputated up to her elbow. She's now super healthy and still very mobile and she's now 8 whole pounds of iguana sassiness.

greenbunny - I love having an iguana for a pet. You dont have to walk them and my clothes arnt covered in fur. :) She's kind of got the same personality as an antisocial cat, I think. But when she's sleepy or in a loving mood she'll snuggle with me on the couch. Fifi is kind of spoiled in that she has her own bedroom to herself. Its about the size of a walk in closet, which used to be a laundry room. In there she has a table, a platform and our fake christmas tree in there, (as well as a huge pine tree branch that hubby just dragged in today from our yard... I'm freaking out about how messy it wil be when it dries out) and a heater and humidifyer and her special sun lamps. SHe spends most of her time in there, but I generally let her explore the house for an hour or two every day, and on nice days I take her outside. Other than her habitat, she's relatively low maintance.

Stevesbabygirl - Bogey is adorable! She has great coloring, and she certainly looks like she's up to something naughty. :) It makes me really happy to see healthy adult igs. :) Fifi usually makes a mess when she's out of her room as well... What the picture of Fifi in the bookcase doesnt show is the piles of books that she knocked over on her climb up. :)

She was in the bathtub when I took that picture, which is easily one of her least favorite places to be :). I think your iguana has beautiful coloring! And her spikes are so nice and perfect, whereas Bogey's are all messed up.
