That is a beautiful veil, GeekGirl!
I've been bad about my wedding planning lately. I'm taking a 2 week trip to Germany in about 2.5 weeks and it is all I can do to focus on anything lately! My goal is to get my bridesmaid dresses ordered before I leave & then I think I will feel okay about things. I have picked out a dress (tentatively, I still have one girl who I want to "approve" it in terms of how she feels in it), and I found a good price online for it...so hopefully I can put an order in for those either this week or next! (Thanks to a CCer, for suggesting this dress, unfortunately I don't remember who!)
http://www.alfredangeloca.com/images/products/0/51fa65ba-353e-4335-9773-6fc674e817ba.normal.jpg
(only I will be ordering the dress in claret, which is their dark red color.)
My pocketfolds have come in & I have distributed one of each of them to my FMIL, and two of my aunts who are creative geniuses, to put together a "rough draft" of an invite. My DJ contract is signed. I have ordered shoes (though I still can't decide if I want to keep them!). Most of my major major stuff is done, save for the bridesmaid dresses.
I need a vacation soooo badly!

We need to post in here or we're going to fall off the page!
GG - I totally missed your pics somehow. Awesome!
SheRa - Have an awesome time in Germany!
I tried on a muslin of my dress this weekend. It was... interesting. I had no idea what stuff was so stiff. I actually still have no great idea of what it will look like bc the material does not drape like my real material. Whatever. I am sure it will be fine. I trust the seamstress 100%. She only needed the muslin for the measurements. She has sent off a piece of tulle for my veil to yet another embroiderer who uses a machine who might be able to do the beadwork in addition to the embroidery.
I still need to sign a florist contract, pick the music for the church, pick the genre of music for the reception, get a car and a tram (did I mention this? I want to arrive at the church in a historical tram... I will leave the car to FH). My registry is still not complete (not my fault) but I am banking on most people waiting till last minute to buy gifts. Oh and I want to send in my NYTimes announcement this week. Too bad I am still jobless... that doesn't ring well in a wedding announcement esp. since I refuse to be called a homemaker or whatever.

Grrr. OK so the wedding is in a little over a month. I am pissed at FMIL and I am pissed at FH right now. FH is so f-ing cranky when it comes to doing wedding stuff. Today we had to go to city hall in his mom's town bc that is where we have our legal residence for tax purposes. We found out we were missing a document we needed from the priest in that town (who we have never met) and FH flipped. We ended up getting the document from the priest right away but he still flipped. Then we went to see a videographer, whose meeting I thought would take 10-15 min and it took an hour so FH was even more pissed (we ended up signing a contract though).
FMIL is pissing me off bc she keeps nagging both of us about getting FSIL to be a witness on FH's side. So like a groomswoman I guess. I told her how we picked our attendants and she just will not listen. It's like talking to a goddamn brick wall. We don't want FSIL as an attendant and I am afraid that FH will just cave.
On a happier note, we are taking dance lessons and they are soooo fun. We'll be doing a foxtrot and some swing to Sinatra's "I've Got You Under My Skin".
Oh, and I've decided to sell my tiara in case anyone is interested. It's the Swarovski Princess tiara in case you want to look on the swarovski website. I'll probably ebay it once we get back from HM if no one here wants it. I figure I'll have better luck selling it around peak wedding season.

You sent out the invites already? I still don't have all mine back and the wedding is in less than a month. I need to start calling around. Some people decided they liked the invitation so much that they didn't want to ruin it by sending back the RSVP. Hello?! They didn't even bother calling. When I called they were like "we thought you knew we were coming." I guess I must have accidentally included somewhere in fine print that I am psychic so no need to respond.
littlelove8138
03-23-2006, 04:06 PM
yeah i sent them out i needed to get them out of the house before they got lost. i think i did it wrong. my rsvp date is april 20th.... :( but i'm getting a lot of people not returning them because they keep telling my parents "she knowns we are coming" hello!! no i don't send them back please!!
of course i love how some are sending them back with more people then were on the invite:rolleyes:
i started making calls to those people last night and they aren't bring the extra people anymore and one decided that she didn't need to come. :( oh well i can't stress about her it's not her day it's mine get over yourself....(vent over) :o
tlew12778
03-23-2006, 04:15 PM
Yeah I had 2 people do that to me. 2 is not bad out of 120 people... well 2 so far I should say. One knew she was nto supposed to bring someone so she said she would only come for dancing but I had a few people tell me they were not coming already so I told her that if she can make it, she can bring him. Then the other is a good friend of mine who just started seeing a girl 2 months ago. I didn't want him to bring her but he's already talking about marriage! So I just shrugged... I invited SOs only if I knew they were a serious couple (like dating for 1+ year). I can't see us making any more exceptions though since there really aren't any other singles being invited to dinner.
littlelove8138
03-23-2006, 04:31 PM
i see your point. she just changes "SOs" like most people change there pants. she tried the "well don't you want everyone to meet him?" i so wanted to say are you really going to still be with him in May? but i just told her no one was bring dates and i just couldn't say yes to her and not to everyone. :o
i'm mean i know
stephie61706
03-24-2006, 10:02 AM
I am hoping that I don't have the SO problem, most of our friends have been told that dates aren't allowed, mostly because we are way over capacity and there just isn't room for them, but we'll find out soon if they really understood us
littlelove8138
03-24-2006, 10:19 AM
Stephie- just stand up for yourself. it works. sometimes you might make someone mad but it's your day not there's ;)
This is what we are doing. This response card wording I particularly like as it discourages "uninvited" guests, letting people know ahead of time how many reserved seats there are in a "classy" way.

We did that but without the bit about the reserved seats for you. It would have been a good addition though. Even with the personalised RSVPs ppl still asked to bring guests.

I agree with the other posters, this is not stupid at all! I counted down every day 'til my wedding since it was like 900 days or something. When we rang in the new year 2004 I was so happy, I said "Now I can say next year i'm getting married!!!" If you're silly than so are the rest of us. And now it's only 96 days, right? HEEEE!!!

03-27-2006, 12:15 PM
pretty much everything, my side of the family threw me one and my future side is also throwing me one. I gave them the guest lists and they are checking everything with me, maybe cause they think I'm crazy ;) but I know all that is going on

Very voluptuous dress! It looks great! What kind of shoes are you thinking of?
I didn't get a bridal shower. And I want to cry about it. They don't do them here in Italy. The only reason I want to cry about it is bc I had to put all these little things on the registry that you normally get for a shower, but no one is going to buy them as a wedding gift bc they are too small and no one does gift baskets here. So basically, that means we will end up buying it all ourselves. I also have no new lingerie so I have to go out and buy that too.
littlelove8138
03-28-2006, 09:27 AM
ITA-that's a wonderful dress!!
i'm sorry you won't get a bridal shower. there isn't anyway you can tell your bridesmaids that you want one? it's an american thing that you would really like? if not hopefully you will get lost of $$ for wedding gifts :)
quick question to all of you 2006 brides. how much did you know about your bridal shower?
thanks :)
I know pretty much everything. It is not totally planned yet but my sister (MOH) is throwing it and we are extremely close. She's not the girly party planning type so she has pretty much asked me everything I want there, she just wants to make me happy. :D awwww

03-28-2006, 02:30 PM
I don't think I am getting a bridal shower since I live so far away now...and yes, I'm sad about it. I feel like I will be missing out on some of the fun of being a bride. But since I will only be home the week before the wedding, there just isn't enough time.
littlelove8138
03-28-2006, 03:29 PM
couldn't you have one right before? i have heard of people doing them the week of.

quick question to all of you 2006 brides. how much did you know about your bridal shower?
thanks :)
I knew absolutely nothing about my bridal shower beforehand. It was a complete and total surprise, and I didn't even think i was getting one at all since we were kind of eloping. However, the ORIGINAL bridal shower, which was planned for last May, I knew everything about. I mean, I made the guest list and I knew when it was....but then we cancelled it when we called off the wedding date.
tlew12778
03-29-2006, 01:36 AM
I cannot have one right before bc some guests (like my sister) are arriving the day before the wedding. My MOH is arriving 2 days before the wedding and we are having a girls' night out with my GFs (bc I refuse to have a bachelorette party).

I have heard of people having "bridal showers in a box" before for people who are far away- people buy gifts, and then the MOH gathers them, and sends them to the bride. We did this for a friend of mine, she loved it, we put in confetti, and fun stuff..........
tlew12778
03-29-2006, 12:29 PM
That would've been such an awesome idea! I am totally doing that if I am far away for someone else's wedding. But I can't really suggest that myself. I mean, that'd be sort of lame right? Anyway we are just about 3 weeks from the actual wedding already so whatever. I have other things I have to deal with right now .
GeekGirl
03-29-2006, 04:13 PM
I've complained about my lack of wedding shower before...but it does really break my heart that I'm not getting one. Yes, we're having a small, intimate wedding - but we're also having two receptions with more than 100 people at each. My MOH hasn't mentioned a thing about a shower or a bachelorette party, and the wedding is less than a month away. :(

Thanks Geek Girl! yes, that is a hoop skirt under there... it had 4 wire rings so it was really full... 6 weeks from today is my wedding, and I am so stressed! I feel like I have a million things to do, and I can't sleep! My mind races all night! I honestly can't wait for it to be over, so I can be back to "normal"-
