I'm taking my little guy up to the mountains this weekend and I'm a little worried that he might get car sick. I've heard that this can happen. Is there anything I can give him to prevent it???

Any help appreciated.

My dog inevitably gets sick every time she goes for a car ride. It's actually funny - because she loves car rides!

Anyway, we haven't found anything that helps her. We usually don't let her eat for a few hours before the ride. We've also tried giving her dramamine, but that didn't help either. We usually just cover her seat with some towels and clean her up after she gets sick. Also, I can tell by the 'look' on her face when its going to happen, so sometimes we can catch it in time and pull over so she gets sick outside.

Good luck!

Both my dogs get carsick.:( How on earth did I get so lucky? Sally only does it on long drives with curves, but Leo pukes between our house and Petsmart (1.5 miles.) I think Sal gets legitimately sick, but I think Leo gets over-excited, which makes him sick.

The only thing I know to do is to make sure the seats are well covered, to have a couple of towels handy, and to pull over when I hear the initial retch.

Our little pup (not so much a pup now) used to get car sick. We found out that not letting her eat right before, making stops to let her get out, and having the windows open so there is fresh air blowing really helped her.

I second covering the car seats real well. HTH!

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. We took him on an 1+ hour car ride Saturday and he was perfect, but I think the curvy ride up the mountain might make him sick. I'll definitely bring a ton of towels and feed him real early. We aren't going until 3 so if he eats at about 7am, do you think that would be ok???

I would think he'd be fine. We just try not to feed Neala withing about 4-5 hours of leaving!

I think you should be ok. We do the same things others suggested - roll the window down, bring a blanket, towels and don't feed her any time close to travel to or from where we are going. Dramamine didn't help in my DH's bumpy jeep. Good luck!
